- Howl's Flying Castle -
" OOC || Characters || Moments in Time "

It's been eighteen years since Howl Pendragon and Sophie Hatter happily got together. Since then a lot of things have changed, mostly the hallways of their flying castle which portrayed galleries of moving photos of their large and bustling household. They have a lot of children, and in the rooms of the flying marvel live an assortment of persons, magical creatures, and spirits of all shapes and sizes who have decided to make this family their home.

Makl, Howl's apprentice is now twenty seven years old and is the unofficial baby sitter of all of them and the man in charge whenever Sophie and Howl were not around. And for this story, they are not around, for an event that has never happened in a long time has taken the magical world by surprise:

" The discovery of a dragon egg. "
In this detailed roleplay, the players are the sons and daughters of Howl and Sophie, or one of the colorful assortment of folks, spirits, and creatures the couple have befriended in their past adventures, and who have decided to make the flying castle their home.

This family will be drawn into the events that follow after Howl and Sophie leave to investigate the dragon egg together with the other wizards, and will find themselves with the unexpected task of saving the world.

Can this odd, mismatched and unlikely household, that cannot go out on a peaceful family trip without making something explode into marshmallows, and have brought even the best of baby sitters down to their knees in surrender, come together to stave off impending doom, or will their hearts succumb to the coming darkness?

Rules:
- Detailed RP -
  1. Respect.
  2. No coarse language and PG13 Romance. If you can't say nor do it in a children's Disney movie, you can't do it here.
  3. Do stuff, support and propel the story forward, pursue your character's goals, and write things worth replying to, though leave the main plot to the GM.
  4. Please post at the most only eight times a day. And don't use the quote button in the main RP thread.
  5. So that I know you've read the rules, please add your character's favorite cake, coffee, tea, or pastry in their CS.
  6. After your character has been accepted, jump right in and have fun.
- Post Length? -
  1. None. Instead, writing quality and character acting level mostly found in detailed RPs is what this roleplay is looking for. Because when a story teller has these, it's not possible for them to write just one or two lines unless they are having a conversation with another character. Even then, their post has their character's personality and moves the story forward. Example:

" Ahh," drawled Seifer, eyeing the warlock with cold disdainful eyes, "look boys it's the heroine of the west." he said with a sneer, prowling around the room.

Elizabeth looked on with a steady gaze and clenched her fists. "I . . . I am not afraid of you." she said bravely, then crossed the threshold, drawing out her wand to begin their duel for the throne.

  2. I usually have a fast RP pace. Like, scenes can be over in two days, story arcs done in two weeks. So it's good to put more meat into your posts before I move the story forward.

  3. We honestly move very fast here, so if it becomes disheartening, feel free to ask the GM to slow down and we'll work something out together. _へ__(‾◡◝ )>

Lore:
Dragons:
dragon_s_breath_by_88grzes-d9r13s0.jpg
Now, dragons have not been seen nor heard of for the last ten thousand years, ever since the appearance of the, " Storm Wall ", in the Shoflo Ocean. This great wall of swirling mist, cloud and thunder stretched all the way to the heavens , and none who have ventured there ever returned. Ten thousand years ago, on the night of its appearance all the dragons of the world rose up, as if they were called, and irresistibly flew into the mist never to be seen again. No one knew why and until now it has remained one of the world's greatest mysteries.

This wasn't a bad thing, after all dragons were mostly known to be selfish, fierce, and destructive creatures, greedy for gold, and wickedly clever. And so the people rejoiced. Nothing ever came out of the mist and it never spread, and so eventually people lost interest and it simply became a mundane part of the world.

" The Beginning "
Here is an ancient poem written during the first age of Midgard by the first historian, the shaman Vala, whom legends say was a wanderer who could speak all the ancient languages because he listened to the earth, sea, and sky. It was about the creation of the world and the copy was a translation in the modern common tongue:

“A twinkling consciousness became the first star which sparkled in the night and banished the darkness. Avariel, the Goddess of Harmony acquired consciousness by gazing into the light of that sun. She was the first song that delighted the star into dancing, the weaving of its essence guided by her music created smaller stars and Yggdrasil , a great tree, but so far a barren and empty one.”

“Avariel drew beams of nine colors from the sun. They became the nine moons, each hiding a small deity within. When those gods awoke, they played beautiful music and that brought fortune to the great tree Yggdrasil and delighted the smaller stars causing them to twinkle and dance.”

“The nine deities became the Moon Gods and demanded that the Goddess of Harmony name them. So Avariel gave each of them a shining stone, which filled the air with music: "Stars, follow me! Moons, walk with me! And we shall celebrate your names!”

“Tryne, merciful god of water.
Zea, passionate god of fire.
Barlen, selfish god of gold.
Libleyt, hopeful god of wood.
Morphes, wealthy god of earth.
Ghazel, whimsical god of wind.

The Moon Gods rejoiced, and Avariel returned to her slumber, resting in the light of the first star. Yggdrasil was left to the whims of the Moon Gods.”

“The Moon Gods each created their own realms on a part of the tree, and here they made land and ocean, trees and flowers through song according to their liking, and gave them light and the power to determine their fate. The light became the Elemental Spirits, riding in the sky. They released bountiful light, and were full of desire to serve the Moon Gods’ will.

“The Moon Gods tried to outdo each other in creating beauty. Sometimes they argued trying follow Avariel's will for harmony and created creatures and men of all shapes and sizes. But dark clouds came to Yggdrasil, and the Moon Gods created greater beasts: giants, dragons, sea monsters, and set them loose upon the land. The gods often quarreled, and the cycle of creation and destruction repeated endlessly.”

“The trees withered, and the Elemental Spirits lost their luster. The land dried up, and soon thereafter, wars began. As the wars dragged on, the powers of the Moon Gods were lost. The realms of Yggdrasil were scarred, and pits that led to them opened in the wounds. The Moon Gods peeked into these pits, and came to know fear, envy, and desire.”

“Cracks appeared in Yggdrasil. Waves of chaos from the more volatile realms came and tried to envelop all of the others in what was called the Rift War. Each weakened Moon god chose an Elemental Spirit and gave it a stone, then the gods turned back into moons. The spirits rode into the sky. They were born of the earth to ride in the sky and return to the earth. They became a flying river of Manna.”

The children of men lamented over the wars, and called upon higher beings for help. The smaller stars answered their prayers.

Stars were beings who served the goddess, whose true forms cannot normally be seen by the children of men. Many reincarnated in the nine realms, but seven fell down to reincarnate in the realm of the children of men.

These seven stars became seven manna trees that constantly sang to soothe the waves of chaos, and the nine realms were at peace once again. Yggdrasil healed and the portals were shut. A new age had begun.

- Yggdrasil and the Devourers -
" The Present "

Another collection of information was about the manna trees of today and had been written nine years ago:

". . . Among the seven manna trees that had been discovered one thousand four hundred years ago, only three have survived pollution and the harvesting of its highly prized wood: The manna tree in Paroosia, the manna tree of Ashenvale capital of the jewel-hearted elves, and the manna tree rumored to be within the Storm wall in Shoflo Ocean . . . "

" . . . The state of the world declined every time a manna tree died, wars and monster attacks became more frequent, and so did the morals of mankind. Arcane researchers fear that mankind is self-destructing itself and that in the future the earth will become too polluted either through neglect or war to sustain human life . . . "

- Yggdrasil and the Devourers -
" Nidhoggs and Ragnarok"

According to texts in ancient rune stones, Nidhoggs are colossal dark dragons from another realm who devour the roots of manna trees and were said to have been the cause of the death of two of the four dead trees, namely the tree in the oriental city of Qui Gong, and the tree in the frozen wastes of Northrend, before the dragons disappeared into the Storm Wall ten thousand years ago.

It has been foretold that when they devour the roots of the last manna tree, the portals that were shut away after the Rift War will open again and waves of chaos will once more flood into the lands of men, thus beginning the first stages of Ragnarok, the last great war that will destroy the nine realms.
Locations:
The Flying Castle:
3c28fb97215bf1ee94ee48093dcb7340.jpg
Magic Door
  • The front door of the Flying castle is a portal linked to other buildings in the world. There is a dial with many colors and each turn changes where the door exits. This door is linked to Calcifer and he can block, cut off or re-link the portal to these buildings whenever he wants too. With this, even though there may be no one to turn the dial, those on the outside going in will still find themselves inside the house instead of some empty place where the real interior of the linked building is.
Living Room
  • The main door opens into the living room where Calcifer's chimney sits, the handsome dining table rests and where a cabinet with its shelves full of potions, books, parchments, alchemical, enchanting, and arcane ingredients sit pell-mell inside. There is also a tiled sink and a couple of squashy arm chairs, poufy sofas, and scattered coffee tables.
Living Room, Chimney
  • Where Calcifer sits with his pile of logs nearby. There is an arm chair in front of the fire where the Witch of the Waste usually takes her afternoon naps.
Second Kitchen
  • Since their family is so big --- and mainly because Calcifer only cooks for Howl and Sophie, there is a large second kitchen with two iron wrought stoves, a pantry stocked with food, and barrels of clean water. It is adjacent to the living room.
Bathrooms
  • There are four bathrooms in the house. One is in the second floor and is Howl's personal bathroom with all its magic potions messily scattered around; The second is on the first floor and is the smallest bathroom; the third is on the third floor; and the fourth seems to keep on changing locations. The fourth has a door that sometimes pretended to be a wall, and likes to move around the house, snickering all the while.
Bedroom
  • Each member of the household has their own bedrooms magically altered to suit their needs, whether it be freezing cold with snow always falling from the ceiling, or cozy and perfectly normal decorated with the owner's personal effects. There is always a spare bedroom in the flying castle.
Yard
  • There is a small courtyard that opens up to the sky. There is a small garden here, an orange tree with a swing and another arm chair for the Witch of the Waste.
Pipes and Towers.
  • There are steaming pipes, clanky mechanical contraptions, and all sorts of metal work sticking out of the castle, some serving odd purposes, some ordinary. There are also towers that stick out from the back of the flying castle where some of the household make their homes.

Storm Wall, Shoflo Ocean:
gvATKsE.jpg

A wall of mist and storm in the middle of the Shoflo Ocean where the dragons flew into ten thousand years ago and never returned. They say that from time to time through the gaps in the mist, an island appears then disappears.

None who have ever ventured inside have returned.

Ruins of Paroosia:
0ce58990f4220e413e424ce22a38d19f.jpg
Once a thriving trading city, where one of the last three manna trees stood, a colossal black dragon suddenly appeared out of nowhere during the Spring Festival, knocked down the great manna tree and razed the city to the ground. This place is now the lair of the black dragon, including all of Leor, which is the state Paroosia is located.

It is rumored that the black dragon is guarding something in the burned ruins of the city, but the authorities refuse to comment. Leor is now crawling with shades --- corrupted monsters of shadow, and many wicked creatures. There is a dark army here, led by the dragon's death knights who mysteriously appeared in the frontlines of Leor, fighting against the alliance of good men who are trying to defeat the dragon.

No good thing dwells here, and spreading from the dark skies of Paroosia is an unnatural dark storm that has spread across all of Leor and never abated. They believe this storm is the dragon's doing and it is slowly spreading across the land, heralding the arrival of the dark army.

Kingsbury:
tumblr_n0ca0nmk6Y1to55gmo2_1280.jpg
Located in the state of Belarius, this is the royal city where the palace of the King of the house of Montegue stands. The Sorcerer's Academy and the Royale Coliseum are also located here, and so is House 44, a place the Flying Castle is linked to through the magical front door, which is a portal controlled by colorful dials on the knob.

Currently, the portal link to House 44 has been cut ever since an assassin death knight attacked the King's Palace during the victory feast two nights after the Warlock Tournament held on the first day of the second month of spring.

Sorcerer's Academy:
b189da56f5f186978dcf37281025b227.jpg

Located in the royal city of Kingsbury, this is the school of magic where Howl graduated from and took his oath to come to the King's Palace whenever summoned. It is headed by Madam Suliman, the King's royal Head Sorceress, and is where most of the Pendragons go to school.

Dawnsfield:
Echo's home.jpg
A farming town of satyrs that's a train ride away from the city of Kingsbury. Some students of the Sorcerer's Academy live in this quaint little village that's surrounded by a peaceful forest.

Pokeshire Hills:
20019_anime_scenery.jpg

Located in the state of Verona, these grassy hills stand beside the shores of the Lalotai sea. There are barely any trees, instead rocks and boulders dot the landscape. There is a fishing village here located on a Cliffside called Pokeshire Village, where the people are farmers, fishermen, and hunters. There is also a port where people can sail north to Kingsbury for two weeks. If one decides to walk, getting to the royal city will take two months. If they decide to fly, the trip will take ten days.

The village leader is Elder Chopin, and his stone lodge is located above the cliff.

" Spring Festival "

Today began as typically as any fresh morning in the flying castle of Mr. Howl and Mrs. Sophie Pendragon.

Sunlight crept into the old cozy living room where the puff of fire that was Calcifer was smoldering peacefully in the fireplace. At the foot lay Heen, Madam Suliman's shaggy old dog with floppy ears who had decided to stay with the Pendragons eighteen years ago, and who has grown shaggier and fatter ever since and now looked like a very poufy pillow. The Witch of the Waste was sleeping in her bedroom on the ground floor, while Howl was snoozing heavily in the master bedroom having spent the last night up late weaving the incantation of a spell that could turn things his children accidentally turned into marshmallows back to their original forms.

Foot steps could be heard coming down the stairs and Mrs. Sophie Pendragon appeared looking ready to start making breakfast for her big family.

"Calcifer." she called gently. The small fire demon poked its flaming head out from under some logs. "Calcifer it's time for ----"

BOOM

An explosion erupted from the room of the mischievous twins, Seth and Sen on the second floor that shook the castle and woke Heen up and made him fart in surprise. Two boys around sixteen years of age came stumbling down the stairs with a cloud of purple smoke chasing them coughing and gasping for breath.

--- breakfast . . ." Sophie sighed.

"MOM! MOM! WE MADE WATERPROOF FIREWORKS!" announced one twin proudly and showed her the remnant of a blown up firework in his hands. The two had blackened faces and stiff hair that had been whooshed back by the explosion, but were relatively unharmed and wore toothy grins.

Upstairs, one of the doors of the bedrooms opened and out stepped one of the older siblings, James Pendragon, looking grumpy and disheveled. He was tall for an eighteen year old and looked almost like his father, except he had Sophie's eyes and a sharper chin. He had dust on his robes and bits of wood stuck in his black hair as though part of his room had fallen on him.

"You two are deaa --- hi, mom!" he said changing tone as he came down the stairs and saw Sophie who was scolding the twins, but not hard enough, in James' opinion.

The two twins snickered at him behind Sophie's back when she was done. There was nothing James could do to them if one of their parents were around and James just realized with the way they were mischievously smiling at him, that they had brought down part of his room on purpose. James gave them a steely we're-going-to-settle-this-after-breakfast look.

The household started getting ready for the day and by the time almost everyone had gotten down the stairs, the dining table was groaning under the weight of platters of large crispy bacon, eggs, toasted buttered bread, pitchers of orange juice, milk, and coffee, steamy potato hash browns, dishes of marmalade, and a mountain of corned beef and smoked sausages.

Today was a big day. It was the Spring Festival of Paroossia City, and most of the family had decided to go down and celebrate. There was going to be a warlock's parade, stalls where you could play games and win prizes. Many merchants have also come from all over the land to sell their exotic wares and trinkets. There was also going to be a lot of fresh food on sale, the first harvest of Spring, and a lot of housewives were looking forward to some good shopping.

Renee woke up to the explosion with a gasp, sitting up straight only for a piece of the ceiling to fall on her head, and she fell back into her bed, dazed. It's been a year since her accident with the strange plant and she couldn't find an antidote, so she decided to live with her new appendages. It's been okay so far: Her parents seem to like her wings too, which was a plus in her book. Though her little brothers love to pull her feathers for their experiments sometimes...

The seventeen years old girl blinked, waiting for her dizziness to pass, and groaned when she smelled her mother's delicious breakfast from her door. When the platinum blonde felt that she could finally get up and not feel sick from moving, she went to get a change of clothes from her closet. After the bath and brushing her teeth, Renee looked at the mirror one more time before deeming herself ready and went down the stairs to get breakfast. "Good morning, Ma." She walked up to Sophie and kissed her cheek in her usual greetings and ruffled the twins' hair. "Good morning, Sen. Seth."

Grabbing a plate, the teen looked at her older brother and covered her smile behind her hand, giggling a bit. A few seconds later, she grabbed the piece of wood in his hair and pulled it off his head. "G-good morning, James." Renee greeted, humor seeped in her tone, her wings fluttering in amusement. She grabbed a heaping load of bacon and hash browns with a small loaf of bread at the side and sat next to the grumpy older brother. "Are you excited about the festival? I know I am!" The transformed teen asked, excited about today.

@Zer0 , @Aio

The dark hair boy jumped from his sleep. Had he head something? He patted a light layer of ceiling dust from his hair and shoulders. He could only guess the twins had been up to something. He'd been home for a few days now, but he still felt like sleeping. He pulled the blanket over himself and laid back down. He only manged to turn over before a small fat cat as pawing at the tuff of hair poking out the top of the blanket. "Fine..I'm awake." He rose and made the effort to remove himself from the bed. He guessed he'd shower after breakfast since one inspection the tub didn't look in working order. He sighed throwing his towel back into his room. It landed on his cat and a series of loud mews was heard. "Just climb out from under it." He dressed and made his journey downstairs.

Roderick was tall not quite as tall as his older brother Jame's. But Rod had a few grow spurt left in himself he thought. Other than that he was a prefect image of his father. Black hair and light blue eyes he might've passed for his father if he tried. He was taking the stairs two at a time to reach the bottom in a quickened pace. His first affection were to his mother. A wide smile and a squeeze of her shoulders. Second he was rubbing Heen behind the ears. Jealous mews could be herd coming down the steps as Pumpkin lazy made his presences know.

Roderick squeezed in next to Renee. As always he was late to start. He grabbed his plate heaping it full of food. He gave the twins a playful wink. He had caught the tail end of the scolding from upstairs. It also approved of their pranks. "Little less boom next time boys." He snickered the sentence at them while smearing a large glob of jam on his bread. There was another more sheepish smile for James. "Rough morning, James?"

He made a little pull at one of Renee's feather. It was light and no painful just a teasing action. "I don't think anyone can more excited than you sis. " He laughed again stuff a whole slice of bread into his mouth.

- James Pendragon -

" Flying Castle "

"Morning, Renee --- oh, thanks." grunted James after she pulled the piece of wood out of his hair. He smoothly shook his messy black hair back to shake off whatever else was stuck in there and took the piece of wood from her fingers. He brightened up at the mention of the festival.

"I am excited --- oh, hey, little bro." he added to Roderick when he squeezed in, and moved his chair sideways so that the two could be more comfortable. Roderick was not little in any sense of the word. He was not as tall as James, but he was stronger and looked more athletic as he spent most of his days hiking and exploring the wilds. James on the other hand was coltish, with a broad back, and was pale skinned from spending most of his time in libraries or ateliers studying arcane summons and alchemy. But the nickname had stuck since they were kids.

"I'm planning to restock my alchemy ingredients then visit the manna tree after I help mom with shopping." said James, playing with the small piece of wood Renee had pulled from his hair. "What about you two? Got plans for today?"

The manna tree in Proosia City was a great ancient tree that stood tall in the center of the city. It's massive trunk was thicker than a cathedral and its great branches stretched as far as four city blocks. It was a well of arcane power and attracted a lot of magical creatures, scholars, and of course, tourists. This tree was the reason for Proosia City's prosperity, the manna that flowed in its roots made the crops of the land thrive healthily and kept away monsters and evil spirits that roamed the forests surrounding the city.

When Sophie wasn't looking, James flicked the small piece of wood at Seth's nose.

"Hey!" he cried, and James feigned ignorance when their mom turned to see what was going on. Sen laughed. "Who's side are you on?!" added Seth to his twin incredulously. James sniggered.

Winnifred Notch

Winnifred had woken to the boom of the explosion, her room swaying a bit but it seemed that perhaps she had been spared the worst of it. Although she was too slow to take back those words as trinkets from the shelves above her started to fall. First one landed on her floor, which Winnifred paid no mind to it. One by one her precious trinkets fell onto her bed as a couple hit the top of her head before her room finally settled. She pursed her lips trying to control some of her anger before going downstairs, it was simply not her place to yell at any of the children related to the Pendragons.

Touching the top of her head she could already feel a bump forming and sighed. Pushing the trinkets to the far end of the bed she slipped out of the bed, her feet met with plush pillows as she looked at herself in the mirror. She had gotten to used to her pink hair in the past weeks, Mr. Pendragon offering to help although she was determined to figure it out on her own. What kind of witch would she be if she couldn't reverse her own spells?

Making an attempt to look presentable she pushed her door open and quickly made it downstairs. She was met with what she assumed were all the Pendragon's, never making an attempt to count, before resuming her walk to the table. Shooting a glare at the twins as soon as she saw their ashy faces before looking over at Mrs.Pendragon and smiling.

"Moring Mrs.Pendragon, James, Renee, Roderick...boys." Winnifred made sure to draw out the word boys as she looked at the again before sighing. Picking up a plate she loaded it with her usual, a two pieces of toast and a two eggs, always careful to skip over the bacon. Setting her plate down she filled her cup with orange Juice before attempting to find a spot to sit down.  Finding a spot to squeeze into she placed her items down before pulling up a chair and sitting, watching  James from across the table as he flicked a small piece of wood at Seth. A small justice for the others.

Winnifred sat the not all concerned with inserting herself into the conversation. She enjoyed listening to the sibling's bicker and their stories, giving her day some color. Her eyes flickering from one sibling to the next before landing on Rodrick, watching him tease his sister as she loaded her toast with one of her eggs and brought it up to her mouth.

She had thought to go to the festival but she was unsure. She knew that the Pendragon's were going and perhaps she trail behind them although she wanted to go and visit a local bookstore that was located at the center of the town. Wishing to see if they had any new books on the human anatomy, finding it was easier to create potions that dealt with the human body after she learned most of the bodies functions, sadly the only thing to crack next was how to return her hair to its natural color which was far harder than she anticipated.  She shrugged off the thought as she took in a bite of her food, feeling her stomach settle.

@Zer0 @Katsuya @Masia

As James responded, he greeted their little brother Roderick as he squeezed in, making her feel squished in until her older brother moved over a bit. Renee felt a teasing tug on her wing as she responded cheerfully to Roderick. "I can't help it! The spring festival is where so many people come by and the decorations are just so colorful! How can I not be excited?" Her wings fluttered, pulling that feather out of his hand and lightly flapped his face without meaning to. "Oh! Sorry!"

She took a moment to bite into the bacon, listening to James' answer. While her brothers look more like Howl, their father, Renee look similar to Sophie, their mother. The short white hair emphasizes on that too. Though she felt a bit neglected on the 'being tall' gene since she was the shortest sibling in their age range, including the twins. They are an inch taller than her.

"I'm planning to look around and maybe find some herbs to experiment on. I also want to restock on my art supplies." She's running low on her gouache and illustration boards. "Then maybe I'll see you at the manna tree, big brother." Then she heard Ms. Winnefred's voice, greeting each one of them. Renee looked over and waved at the pink-haired witch, smiling. "Good morning, Ms. Winne!" She then saw a piece of wood (the piece that she pulled out of James' hair) hit one of the twins' noses while the other one laughed at him.

Renee simply shook her head at her siblings, feeling amused. It's whenever the oldest and the twins are together that life seems much more funnier since they never stop one-upping each other. She giggled again as she took another bite of her bacon. "What about you, Roderick? Anything you want to do?"

@Zer0 @Masia @Aio

He was busy for the time being shovel a humorous amount of food into his mouth. He'd always been a quick eater. Always getting a swat to the head to slow down and chew his food. He made a bit of choking sound when Renee's wing smacked him in the face. He admitted he hadn't be around much to get use to her new appendages. He had already forget how emotive they were. He was always quick to laugh as the piece of wood smacked Seth in the face.

He was probably the tannest of the family. Always a few skin tones darker than the rest of the lot. His strength often lead him to be the family pack mule on shopping trips. He was always the first to be asked to move a heavy piece of furniture. He did not mind. He was happy to help his family when he was their with them. He'd spent more time away from home these past two years. He always got an earful from his older brother James about how much worry it caused their mother, but Roderick had great places to be and such little time to see them all. Speaking of which his brother hadn't gotten on his case yet about his last adventure. He was sure the missing of his birthday was to get him barrage or words about his carelessness. He gave a nod the Winnifred as she sat down with her food. He wasn't about to talk with a mouth full of food. With his first plate cleared he was quickly filling up another. Their was a small fork battle with his younger brother Sen for the last big piece of bacon before he lost.

Then everyone was asking him what he would be doing during the festival. " More supplies, and a new pack. A giant lizard tore a hole in my hold one. I lost half my gear thru it before I got home. So I'll be doing that mostly. I need a new map book, mine full so I'll probably go by the bookstore. Then the Mana Tree, cause who doesn't go to the Mana Tree. " He slapped a younger brothers had from trying to still his biscuit. "Want me to toss you out the window again Sen?" He growled out shoving his brother playful. The fight would squish him up against Renee again wobbling her about a bit.

"What about you Winnifred? Going down with rest of us?" She wasn't born of the rest of them, but she had been around enough to feel like family at least to Roderick. So he wanted to be sure she wasn't feeling left out. He always really wanted know. He was trying to gauge how many bags he might have to haul around today.

@Zer0 @Katsuya @Aio

"Oh, it sucks that you lost your stuff, but I'm sure it'll be fun looking around for new things at the festival." Renee said, watching Sen and Roderick have a fork fight, only for Roderick to lose. She shook her head in amusement.

As she continued watching her younger brothers fight, Renee was squished again, wobbling from Roderick shoving back Sen. The teen sighed in agitation, her wings' feathers puffing up. Then she noticed her other younger brother, Seth, trying to steal her bacon-! "Oh no you don't!" No one messes with her bacon! She conjured up semi-transparent forks and let them fall around his sleeve, trapping him on the table. The white-haired teen grabbed her plate and ate the rest of her food quickly. She loves her family dearly, she does...but bacon is important too.

Once she finished eating, Renee released her little brother's sleeve before her mother noticed and stuck her tongue out at Seth playfully. She stood up from the table and walked to the sink so she can wash her plate, listening to Ms. Winnefred's reply.

" Paroosia City "

James nodded at Renee. "I bet you six mandrakes you're going to paint that manna tree." he winked at his sister and stood up to wash his plate beside her. Mandrakes were these large leafy plants that had roots that screamed if you pulled them out. They were difficult to grow, and depending on how old the plant was, it could give the one listening a nose bleed or knock them out cold for several weeks, but they were a great core alchemical ingredient, known to cure adventurers who have been petrified into stone.

Howl came down late as usual after he had taken his one hour bath. By that time those who were ready to go we're already waiting downstairs or had gone ahead through the magic front door which led straight out of the castle which had landed on the outskirts of the City of Paroosia.

"Good morning everyone!" he greeted his family. The wizard just grabbed a stack of toast before taking Sophie's hand and announced that he and her were going on a date ("We are?" asked Sophie surprised. She clearly wasn't told about this.) and that, "James, that leaves you in charge of everyone."

James' jaw dropped in indignation; Markl, Howl's first apprentice now twenty seven, exclaimed, "Yes!" in relief. He was usually the one Howl put in charge of his kids to "train" him which had worn him down. "InthatcaseI'llgoaheadseeyouguys!" he said quickly and dashed out the door before anyone could say anything. They could hear his voice yelling in the distance, "I'm freee!"

"Yay, Jam is in charge!" shrieked one of the younger kids, a girl of ten with pigtails named, Rhea, who flung herself at Jame's leg and stuck there like a gecko.

Rhea was an adopted child whom Sophie had found sleeping on the doorstep outside one of the portal exits and had taken her in. She carried around an ordinary dirty teddy bear named, Mr. Duck, smeared with food stains. The reason for this was because every time she was presented with a food she didn't want to eat, she'd tell her parents first to feed it to the teddy bear Mr. Duck, and if Mr. Duck liked it she would eat it. So far Mr. Duck doesn't eat anything but chocolate.

"Father," began James reasonably, but no matter what he said his father would not change his mind.

"You're eighteen, James, you're a man now. It's time you learn the precious responsibility of taking care of your family." said Howl.

'But I've got my own dreams to join the Wizengamot, I can't be anchored down by this mad lot.' was what James wanted to say, but he didn't want to say that in front of Rhea, or Renee, or Roderick. He looked away clearly disgruntled, and instead said, "Yes, dad."

And so here he was in the lovely City of Paroosia baby sitting his much younger siblings while they pulled at his hair and cried and said things like they wanted to be a princess.

Tapping her plate with her toast she chuckled when Renee called her Ms.Winni. "Come now Renee we both are practically the same age and known each other for some time. Just call me Winni or Winnifred. I'm not that old." She knew she was not part of the family nor did she try to be. Though even because of this she didn't care to be called anything other than Winni or Winnifred, but she knew she could not control what others called her.

Winnifred had finished most of her meal. Scrapping up what was left of her egg with a price of toast as she thought. She was most defiantly going to the book store but was unsure of what else she should do to fill her day. Chewing slowly as she thought, almost as if the chewing interfered with her thought process which may or may not have been true.

When ever Winnifred had to think in depth or had to think in general she could never be doing something else, because every time she did she would loose her train of thought. Listening to Roderick she thought perhaps she trail behind him seeing he too was going to the bookstore although she wondered if he would be okay for her to tag along. Although she had also wished to look at rooms for board around the small town in hopes to find a small studio to move into she that she would be able to get out of the Pendragon's hair like promised. Though she rather keep that little detail a secret as long as she possiblely was able. When he asked her about what activities she would be participating in.

"Well so far... all I've thought to do is go to the bookstore. Other than this I haven't given much thought." Winnifred said shrugging the thought as she stood up to dispose of her plate, finished with her meal. Turning her head as Mr. pendragon descended the stairs, steam rolling down the steps from his usual bath.

Listening to Mr. Pendragon as he announced his date with Mrs. Pendragon and then deemed James the caretaker. She could help but feel bad for dear James knowing he had other plans, perhaps she could help him along the day with the others so he would be able to do what he wanted, seeing she only wished to go into town to retrieve a book.

Washing off her dishes she put them away before turning to look over at James, a sigh escaping her lips as she watched the youngest sister flock to him. "James if you would like I could help watch the others so that you would be able to do what you wish." Only a minor set back for her but she owed it to the Pendragons for allowing her to stay all these years.

James gave Winnifred a happy look as though she was the best thing in the entire world. "That. Would be fantastic." he breathed. "Thank you!"

The twins gave each other identical mischievous grins; Rhea screamed in glee and now wrapped herself around Winnifred's leg instead, while holding Mr. Duck the teddy bear. "Winnie!" she cried. This girl had a really tight grip.

Before they went to the city Mrs. Pendragon took Winnifred aside and thanked her for being helpful. "James doesn't have a lot of patience for the antics of his much younger siblings and they hardly listen to him, especially the twins. I think with you around they'll be much more obedient."

Winnifred smiled slightly when James thanked her, putting up her hands as she waved him to stop. "It's fine. I was only going to the book store." Stumbling as she felt the youngest Pendragon child attach herself to Winnifred's leg. Pursing her lips she lugged the child over to the coat rack where she picked up her cloak and put it on before she attempted to walk outside with the child.

Stopped by Mrs. Pendragon, Winnifred looked at her curiously not knowing what she wanted. Watching her wide eyed  as she started to speak. She could feel her cheeks turn red, she smile wavering as she listed to the woman speak about the children. "James is a good brother. I'm just here to help. I know he wanted to do other things besides watch the children and quite honestly I had nothing planned today."  She wondered if perhaps she sounded a little bit defensive about James but she knew she had no reason to be so she tried not thinking anything about it. She chuckled a bit when Mrs. Pendragon said they would behave around her. She supposed it was because of her intimidating presence  she most often gives off but in honesty it could be because she wasn't afraid to be mean, having many years to practice her death stare.

Renee responded back to Winnifred, smiling. "Right, sorry. I just can't help but show my respect around you though." Something about Winne made Renee want to respect her, even when they were around the same age range. "I'll be sure to call you Winne then...Winne." She giggled, before going to James' direction, smiling at him. "You'd win that bet! I really want to capture it's awesomeness on a canvas." Her wings fluttered in excitement at the thought of painting the Manna tree.

When her father came down and declaring that he and their mother has a date (which made her mother surprised, Renee can tell from her expression), she instantly felt bad for James. Their family is one that most babysitters would run from just like how Markl did. The transformed teen winced when she heard him scream 'I'm free!' Her wings fluttered in clumsy surprise when little Rhea flung herself on James' leg and after Winne offering to help James, flinging on her person too.

With a sigh and drying her hands from washing her plate, smiling, Renee decided to help a bit as well. "If you want James, I can keep an eye on the twins...give you a heads up in case they are up to something..." She whispered that last part into his ear so their mischievous siblings won't hear. Then the teen wrapped her arms on the twins' shoulders, pulling them in a hug with her wings fluttering in excitement. "Ready to find interesting things in the festival, boys?"

"Yes, big sis!" said the twins innocently in unison and hugged her back. Out of Renee's sight, they then gave each other victorious looks, as though thinking that with only their nice older sister as their guard and not James who had a bone to pick with them, nor Winnifred who was scary, they were going to have an easier time during the festival.

And so they accompanied Renee to the apothecary and to an art supply shop where after becoming quickly bored decided to ask their older sister if they could leave for a moment, "Sis, we'll be right back, we're going to the bathroom." they said together.

The Spring Festival market did not disappoint. Here Howl accompanied Sophie as she flitted from stall to stall picking the crispiest vegetables and the freshest meat. Howl was already carrying baskets of potatoes, eggs, and nets of whole uncut smoked bacon that somehow magically did not stain his clothes --- he loved clothes. They talked as they shopped, first about the sights, then about their children.

"Howl, why did you leave James in charge of the kids?" asked Sophie as they walked down the loud merry street. "You know he hates that."

"We won't be around forever Sophie, someone has to protect them, help and teach them get by in the world, and I can't ask Markl to do that, he has his own life now." said Howl, smiling. "I'm surprised he hasn't set out on his own yet."

Sophie held his hand in thoughtful repose and didn't speak for a while. There was some truth in Howl's words, they were getting older after all.

" Paroosia City "

The Spring Festival Parade began in the afternoon and ended with a fireworks display in the city square. Here many adventurers, scholars, merchants, warriors, rogues, witches and wizards roamed. There were many colorful stalls of traders who had traveled from far and wide to sell their exotic wares and trinkets. There were dwarf-forged weapons and armor, hunters selling odd magical pets and mounts, warlocks selling alchemical ingredients, and some gnomes selling crystals and precious stones.

Here James was doing his own shopping with Winnifred. They had Rhea with them who kept on wanting to ride James' summoned silver-white stag, Frey, that he was using as a pack mount.

"Horsey! Horsey!" said Rhea, wanting to sit on its back, but James said that he promised he was going to let her ride after they were done shopping. Rhea could play with his bought potions and accidentally cause a magical accident.

"Hoo, I'm done." James said to Winnifred. "Do you still have a place you want to got to?"

Winnifred pulled her hood over her head in attempts to cover her pink hair as she was dragged by Rhea outside the door. She watched as the Pendragons split off, Renee and the twins going one way while Mr and Mrs Pendragon went another, leaving James and Winnifred to keep an eye on Rhea and possibly Roderick but she was sure he could take care of himself.  Walking along the stalls she watched James gather the things he set out for, firmly holding Rhea's hand to lessen her chances of escaping.

She let let her hands graze various trinkets as she walked with James only looking up once when he asked her a question. "Just the book store but I can do that on my own time, it's not problem." She spoke feeling her hand touch something cold. She turned her head to look at the item and was immediately drawn to it. It was a simple silver potion bottle, etched with  gold around the edges, picking it up she checked the bottom and pursed her lips when she looked at the initials. It was most definitely her old master's, no doubt in her mind, though looking at the price tag stuck to it she knew it was just not ment to be. Sighing she put it down and continued on with Rhea. "Like your brother said Rhea. Not now. We don't want the poor Stag to get tired do we? Let's wait till we unload everything it is carrying and then perhaps he will let you ride it around the block of the home." She gave the girl a small smile before looking back at James hoping it was alright what she told the girl, unsure if he allowed the stag to give rides.

Renee was looking at the different brands of paint the store has when the twins had said of going to the bathroom. She looked away from the paints to suspiciously stare at the twins. They are only going to the bathroom, what could possibly happen if they left her side? 'So much destruction, that's what James would tell me...' The transformed teen thought tiredly, already hearing this from the older sibling many times before. "Okay...but come back quickly! I wouldn't want anybody missing for being lost..." 'Again...' She thought, remembering those times with Roderick always losing himself.

Watching the twins walk away, she squeezed the small pot that held the Teddy-bear Choya cactus with her arms, a bit worried. Her wings fluttered nervously. Renee wants to believe that her little brothers wouldn't cause harm during the festival. Many things can happen and she rather that everyone in the family, blood related or not, will come back in one piece.

"Pretend you're tired." James whispered to Frey the stag.

Frey immediately slumped dramatically, his ears drooping and his large head with its great antlers bent sadly. He put one hoof in front of the other as though he fighting on despite the heaviness of his burden, though realistically he could carry two people and their packs easily if he was just trotting at this slow pace.

Rhea sulked, but then looked at Frey with pity and just mumbled, "Okay, I'll wait . . ." James gave Winnifred a covert  thumbs up.

"I'll be going to the manna tree to meet up with Renee now." he added looking at his arcane watch with twelve hands that showed the movement of the planets instead of the hours of the day. "We'll be going back home much later, I'm thinking of eating with her once we're done there. You can join us after you've visited if the bookstore if you like, most of the family is eating early so that we can save up a good spot to watch the fireworks tonight."

He picked up Rhea and mounted Frey with practiced ease, placing the little girl in front. "Thanks for helping me, I'm glad today was normal. Do you want a ride to the book shop?" he added as an after thought extending a hand.

The twins never came back. Upon inspection of the men's bath there was no one inside, but there was a small open window that a thin person could go through if they were hoisted up by another person.

Somewhere in the city, Sen and Seth were laughing. "That was too easy!" said one twin as he casually flipped the coat he was wearing so that it showed a different color and smoothly stole a beret from a busy chatting tradesman.

"Yup, now we have the whole day to ourselves." grinned Seth who easily stole a cloak from a vendor. After swiping a few more props the twins were unrecognizable from a far distance and blended in with the crowd as plainly as plain men.

"So you want to sneak into the parade? There's a travelling circus that's got loads of tamed monsters in cages that we've only seen in books, like a chimaera. "

"Then what are we waiting for?! Let's go!"

- A Mysterious Voice Calls -

" Lower levels, Manna Tree"

As the festivities went on, those who would visit the manna tree would hear rumors that tree was sick. It wasn't obvious to people that didn't know a lot about plants, but to someone who knew herbalism the piles of brown leaves that covered the ground and fell from the canopies were too much for just the start of spring. A closer inspection of the trunk would reveal very small patched of some sort of dark foreign blight that wasn't normal.

If someone who practiced shadow magic examined these blights, they'd feel the twisted dark magic that they were barely emanating.

A voice would call from somewhere . . . a voice they never heard before . . . small, soft and fleeting. But it was ancient, and it sounded like it was dying. "Save me . . ." it said. "It is here . . . they are back . . . darkness is returning to the world!"

Those who choose to follow the voice will find themselves drawn mysteriously to a secret passageway down a path rarely trodden in a park rarely visited, and down to the colossal roots of the ancient manna tree, where they will come face to face with a very old, very ancient gigantic door big enough for a giant to pass through and sealed by powerful magic.

Renee is frantic by the time she reached the Manna tree, looking around with a panicked pale face, and her wings trembling and fluttering non-stop. She waited for the twins to came back only to go search for them in the bathroom and the nice guy who looked for her came back, saying 'I didn't see any twins. I'm sorry.' The teen looked at the market, city square, the art store, the apothecary, everywhere! Nothing! No sign of Seth and Sen. She couldn't stop her imagination as she came up with scenarios in her head, from kidnapping to someone stealing their hearts to being cursed to so many other things that she really wanted to cry for even thinking them. "Argh! If only I went with them-! Then maybe..." It's her fault for letting them go without her.

The white-haired teen dropped all her bought art supplies and letting the cactus down gently to the grassy ground, breathing quickly as she tries to think of an idea of how to let everyone know that something's wrong. Then she remembered something, her wings pausing it's movements. Her Solar Blossom, of course! It's the quickest way to let every Pendragon and residents with the Pendragon's that there's an emergency. All she has to do is shoot it upwards like a firework. She might get in trouble if the twins were actually okay, but it didn't matter to her; All she wants to know is that they are all right or not.

After breathing in and out for a few moments to calm herself, Renee looked up to see the branches of the Manna tree and walked away from it so she wouldn't hit it by accident. Once she's sure that her arrow won't cause a fire, the transformed teen put two fingers of each gloved hand together before imagining that she's pulling a bow's string as she pulled back one of her arms. A bright glow that's in a shape of an arrow appeared and she aimed a bit away from the tree. Renee waited for moment, concentrating hard to shape a small sphere barrier around the arrow's head so the solar beam won't hurt anybody and released her arrow up to the sky. "Please work-!"

Breathing heavily as she watched the arrow go up and explode in the sky, small transparent blossom petals fell down like confetti and disappeared quickly. 'Hopefully, James is able to see that...' Renee thought as she walked back to her stuff and sat next to the cactus. Her wings continued to tremble and flutter nervously as she kept thinking the worse outcome of her little brothers; The white-haired teen wanted to stop already, so she looked up at the Manna tree again only to notice something's off.

Brown leaves were falling down...and there were piles of them around the trunk. The teen squinted her eyes in suspicion as she stood up again and walked towards the pile of brown leaves. "This...is really bad..." She muttered quietly, now curious as to what caused the tree to be sick. Walking back to grab her stuff and dragging them to the trunk of the Manna tree, Renee waited for her family to get here, now praying not only for her twin brothers, but also for the sick tree. 'Please! Get here soon...' Then she heard something...something or someone's voice and it's so hard to hear...

Renee, leaving a dome barrier around her stuff, followed where she's hearing this frail and muffled voice, curious as to who and what was it saying...

Roderick had already done it, he'd already gotten lost in the sea of people. He wasn't but a moment or to outside the house. He sighed "so much for a family outing." He made his way in out of shops. he picked up a new pack and all his relative gear for traveling. His wondering did however manage to get him to the Mana tree. He felt a little bad, having missed out on seeing the festival with everyone. His pale eyes looked over three. It didn't feel right. So was it really sick?

He was circling the tree when he heard a distance noise and the sky. Renee? She made a run and almost smacked into her on the other side of the tree. "Renee, What's wrong. I got lost. "what else was knew for Roderick. It was the voice that drawing him now. A cry for help. He travel with Renee to find the source. CLose to keep her in sight. He did want to accidentally wonder away now.

Winnifred thought for a moment and then shook her head. "No it's fine. I'll just meet you all up there in a bit." She walked over to where Rhea sat and leaned in to whisper in her ear. "Now be good for your brother and I'll bring you a special surprise." She took a step back and winked before snapping her fingers causing her creature to appear beside her. Taking off her cloak she wrapped it around her creature and flipped the hood over his head and sighed. Waving to the two she walks away and into the crowd. The only sign she was ever there was the bobing head of her creature that stood above the crowd.

Winnifred weaved through the crowd

As she attempted to make her way to the store but not before she stopped to get something for Rhea. Eyeing the stalls she stopped at one full of little golden trinkets, some spinning while others swayed. She bent down to look at the trinkets before selecting one and pocketing it, making sure to pay the merchant before going on her way.

Although it took some time she finally made it to the bookstore only to find it

crowded with those from the festivities. With a sigh she closes the door and walks away. She would have to go another time, perhaps tomorrow when the festivities ended. Walking away from the store she made her way to the Manna tree. Using her creature to push the others out of her way as she made the trek up.

Her wings flapped in shock as Roderick almost ran into her and she froze a bit before blinking. Somehow she knew he would get lost again. Renee answered back, walking towards the weak voice. "Well...I lost Sen and Seth...more like they escaped and I couldn't find them anywhere..." She sighed, pausing for moment. Her wings wilted from her guilt. "I don't know what to do....what if they were kidnapped? or some not-so-nice witch curse them?" The transformed teen asked worriedly. "I know it's my imagination playing with me, but...I can't help it...and then there's the tree. It's leaves are brown and it's sick..." She looked at Roderick, frowning. "Do you hear it too? That tiny voice?"

" Inside the Gate "

Those who stand before the gate will realize that the fleeting voice was coming from within . . . and there was something else inside, something that gave a very bad ominous feeling. It could be your imagination, but it seems that a flash of white light passed through a great keyhole for a moment from the other side. Those who look through to see what it was or merely touch the door, will feel a shimmer of magic before they blink, and the next thing they know, they will find themselves still facing the door, but they were now in the other side, where dead black roots infested with dark blight arch above an ancient stone path wrought with arcane symbols.

There was no opening the door. Those inside would feel strange as though they were inside a hazy dream.

"I am here." said the small voice, now clearer and more hopeful. "I am here, do not be afraid."

The path will open to a great chamber underneath the earth where the darkness was thickest and most foul. Here resting upon the ruins of an ancient forgotten city was a great dark pulsing dragon egg. It was the vile core of the blight that plagued the tree and the shadows that danced in its ominous reddish purple light seemed alive. The egg it seemed was feeding on the roots of the tree

And at the very bottom was a small bright white light and the voice said even louder, "Please get me out of here!"

" Manna Tree "

Clip clop, clip clop, clip clop, clattered Frey's rapid hooves against the cobblestone.

"Hey, my cabbages!" yelled a passing farmer as the great silver-white stag leapt over a wagon of cabbages, sending the topmost of the pile tumbling and scattering down the street.

"Sorry, I'll pay for that later!" yelled James as his stag turned a sharp corner, and the people jumped out to make way. He knew it, it was just too good to be true. Of course something was going to go wrong and he wasn't surprised that it was Renee who gave the signal for help. "Those twins are dead." he seethed, "When I get my hands on them, oh boy." Out of his robes he drew out a wand of dark polished wood. "Choutte Venire!"

A small ghost-like owl barely visible in the day poof-ed out of a tiny white cloud that erupted out of the end of Jame's wand. "Fly ahead to the tree, Sasha! Look for Sen, Seth, and Renee" he commanded. The owl circled, then winged its way towards the manna tree.

It was this owl that found Winnifred and her shadow man. "Winnie, it's James." said the owl grumpily in James voice, and fluttered down to land on the shoulder of the shadow man. "Renee fired one of her Solar Blossom arrows here, I think the twins did something. Do you see any of them, or maybe someone who got turned into a marshmallow or has seen a magical accident? I'm almost there."

Winnifred startled by the owl took a step back, almost tripping over herself but luckily saved by her shadow man. She knew the owl belonged to James, sighing when she was told the twins were missing. "I'll look for them. I'll have him search the ground and I suppose I look from the sky." The shadows man grumbled curiously as one of his hands attempted to touch the winged animal only to have Winnifred quickly grab it and return it back down to its side. "I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary which I suppose should be very bad. I'll wait for you before I take off." Again the shadow man went to touch the winged animal only to have Winnifred grab its arm to bring it back down to its side.

"Stop trying to touch the owl you idiot." She hissed, holding on to its hand as she looked around for the mischievous twins. Of course they would disappear, today was the perfect day to to pull on of their tricks but with so many magical being here it could turn into a full out war if they were not careful. Winnifred tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for James as she thought. It was only natural they disappear from Renee's care, the girl was far to trusting, not that she was blaming her but felt as though others took advantage of that girl, others such as the twins.
