I used to use an app that alerted me to drink water within a set time frame and pestered me until I did it. I used it keep track of the amount as well. After being in the E.R. twice for dehydration because I often forgot to drink anything, I was pretty set on making it a habit. It helped me a lot, now it's just normal for me to grab a glass and drink it without going hours, or days.

It may not work for everyone, but it's worth a try.

The biggest thing is always having water (or whatever fluids you'd like to drink) nearby at all times. As another person who also forgets to drink anything for long periods of time, I find my biggest problem is just that I often don't have water easily accessible to myself, and therefore don't drink as much. Make sure you always have a glass or bottle of water nearby. If you forget to reach for it from there, setting timers on your phone can also be helpful.

because im normally lying in bed to be on my laptop or doing studying, i find that having full water bottles near me is usually better than having a cup. this is because i can basically put a water bottle somewhere within my line of sight without it spilling, meaning that i literally can't really forget it's there, compared to having a cup on my bedside table or on the floor where i cant see it and will forget to drink or smth but that's just me i guess

I totally get this struggle! I have autism-related executive dysfunction a lot of the time, so sometimes I go through like a whole day forgetting to drink and then wonder why I'm dizzy and irritable. Here are some things that help me:
  • Get a water bottle with a straw, in a color that you like, and keep it nearby. Most water bottles hold about 750 milliliters, which is a pretty good amount and enough to keep you from dehydrating. They also make larger ones that hold a liter or more, which is a whole active day's worth of water!
  • Like some other people said, digital reminders can be useful.
  • Make tea, if you like it. The simple act of making tea is kind of calming for me, and tea is basically 100% water.
  • Every time you eat, drink a glass of water, even if it's just a little snack.
  • Fruit is hydrating! Having berries, watermelon and apples will get more water into your system if drinking is an unmotivating concept.

I often forget to drink for like two days straight because I literally never feel thirsty. Not sure what's wrong with me, but it happens. As others have mentioned, having a bottle of water placed somewhere visible helps. Oftentimes I'm too irresponsible even for that, too, so I solved the issue by telling other people to remind me to drink from time to time. My bf is a better guardian of my fluid intake than I am!

Passive aggressively leave bottles of water in inconvenient places, like on your toilet seat, in your chair, on your TV and in your bed.

Wait this was supposed to be a lighthearted joke but I just realized it could actually be helpful

get a fuckin pavlock shock clock it hurts but it will make you drink some water my dude

Keeping water near me seems to help. :) I used to only drink like a bottle a day but now I can do 3-4. Along with many cups of milk and orange juice (i also need vitamin d)

I have kidney complications due to my Lupus and need to drink more fluids to help myself out. Any tips? I find myself going like three hours and then realize I haven't had a sip of anything to drink in that time I've just been sitting there. Tips and tricks would be great, really.

My trick has been to keep a bottle of water with me wherever I go! And when I look at it or notice it, I take a drink. Whether or not I want to. Often when I do this I end up drinking quite a bit before finishing. This trick has really helped me out.

Good to hear you're doing better. If you want to switch it up a bit, try a cup with a lid and straw. It works for me somehow.

Cold Ramen Noodles Cold Ramen Noodles Add a little amount of flavoring to spruce up the taste, thus leading you to drink more and simultaneously quench your thirst. 'S what works for me anyway- but I'd recommend you try it! Hope I helped lad!

Specialist Specialist I'm a girl. :) But thanks for the recommendation. I'm not a fan of juice and most flavorings make water taste just like juice. Do you know any good ones that aren't fruit based?

Some people find water boring, but it does help if you get a straw, or put some flavoring in it that doesn't have a lot of sugar. Also, sparkling water without sugar. If you don't have access to any of that, probably just keep a water bottle around at all times, so you can easily take a sip.

I posted an updated a few posts ago on the thread that explain how I've been drinking a lot more now. Keeping water really close to me seems to have helped.

I keep a water bottle with me whenever I want to trick myself into drinking it. Nothing to do? Take a sip. By the end of the day, I'll have gone through a few bottles.

It's simple, but it's effective.

Thanks for the help. :) Many people have suggested this and I gave a brief update earlier in the thread explaining how I have been drinking more water now. But thanks again.
