Just put this here so I could link it and not have it be in My Private Workshop. There's a lot of lore unexplained in this thread, so anyone who looks at it besides a few select people will doubtlessly have questions.

BUILD Masa has long legs that she loves to show off. Other than that, she has an angular and tomboyish body build.
HAIR Raw umber. Chin-length with slight waves, plus a braid over her forehead.
EYES Raw umber. Always seem to be seeking, analyzing, or appraising something.
SKIN Milk tea.
CLOTHING When she's not wearing her sailor-style school uniform, she wears a variety of black dresses with pockets, all of them showing off her legs. She carries around a collection of small tools for electronics repair, either in her pockets or in a black backpack.
UNSPOKEN Never seems to be staring into space - she's intent, calculating. Playing around on her tablet when "idle". Resting in almost suggestive poses.​

WHEN

PERSONALITY A sharp, protective hornet. Masa loves to fix things, criticizes harshly, and is very observant.

Masa isn't an especially talkative or shy person, but her eyes are always watching or appraising something (when she's not batting them suggestively). She often picks up on things others don't, focusing on the unsaid. When she reveals that information to someone, it's to someone very carefully chosen - Masa has a small circle of people she trusts.

She's actually highly judgmental of others, finding the smallest points to criticize and basing her entire image of people off of those points. That's not to say she stops there, though - she's good at deducing the things someone is most insecure about, and striking where it hurts. She's never cruel for fun; rather, it comes out when she's angry or when she feels like someone close to her is being attacked. Also, this trait's flipside is that she can identify people's greatest strengths. If she could only learn to focus on the positive.

When Masa does like someone, she adores them. She'll flirt shamelessly, seeming to fall into alluring poses a little too naturally. She'll fight for them until the end, and do everything she can to get them on her side. She'll even start looking for positive traits and trying to synchronize their strengths with hers.

Because of her critical nature, Masa tends to work tirelessly, to the point where even she's sure something is perfect. She is very industrious, detail-oriented, and determined. Anything can be fixed, Masa believes. Even if others think it's not broken. And if someone does have something broken, God help them, and God help her.

THE

ACTIVITIES Repairing old arcade games at the junkyard. Reading shojo manga. Writing (cheesy, terrible, absolutely secret) shojo anime scripts. Cooking meals for people she likes.
HOME A second-floor apartment with a pool and good internet, in Outer Gear. Her room is full of old programming literature, and shojo manga from a variety of time periods. (She keeps hard copies since they're harder for Henzai to monitor.) Her tablet is a surprisingly simple setup, and not a new model. Notable pieces of decor are blackout curtains, a kotatsu with yellow cloth, and full bookshelves from floor to ceiling.
FAMILY Junko Unaru, her mother, who works at a children's library and encourages her daughter's love of books. Arata Unaru, her father, who moves boxes at a warehouse and taught Masa how to cook. Suzu Unaru, an older sister who is no longer with the family.
HISTORY Masa was genetically engineered to work with technology, and she hopes Henzai will give her the job of a librarian or tech historian, although she suspects it will tell her she's the archivist for some industry she doesn't care about.

Her family has moved from Fringe Gear to Outer Gear when Masa was very young, but just old enough to remember. It was at this time when her sister Suzu, seven at the time, stopped living with the family and met a fate unknown to young Masa.

Family life was fairly mundane for Masa, who enjoyed working on technological projects and reading. Her favorite was shojo manga - they captured her interest beyond picking something apart. She enjoyed the innocence of the stories of first love, and the cute heroines. When she was in middle school, she began traveling to the electronica junkyard near Fringe Gear. Technology was her passion, but she also wondered if there was something she could create to perhaps hack a database (as naive as she knew it was) and find out what happened to Suzu.

Two years passed, and Masa had restored many things - mostly game systems, but her pride and joy was a strange old headset. She'd heard rumors of an underground virtual network and suspected they might be able to help her find her sister. When she put the headset on, in the shelter of the junkyard, she was taken to Umbra. Our story begins there.

SHADOW COLOR Yellow
MOTIF Electricity
WEAPON A black-enameled chain scythe that can act as a filament for electricity. The chain is also very long - it's most effective as a ranged weapon.
FIGHTING STYLE Aggressive, yet calculated. Hornet Shadow lashes out with bolts of lightning and sweeping blows with her chain scythe. When not making explosive long-range attacks at her enemies, she's sabotaging things they control with electricity. She tries to lead the other Shadows, mostly by making plans of attack for them to coordinate with, but she's pretty self-centered for a leader.

OVER

CHAIN LIGHTNING A long-range bolt of lightning that can be directed by some sort of lightning rod or filament (such as her chain scythe). It makes "jumps" like a skipping stone, and is more powerful than her normal lightning manipulation.
