To stay alive you've got to kill your mind.
Alfred’s perspective
It had been about time for Bruce to move on. After a year of sulking and lonely patrols through Gotham, as well as a slight turn of his behavior towards the more violent side, he had finally found himself another child to take care of, a child to watch him, so he wouldn’t make a mistake. It was a morbid trauma re-enactment, the way he picked them up from the streets and gave them a home- but God knew he was a savior for those boys, every single one of them. And Alfred didn’t mind, he wasn’t one to judge, just not the one to take care of them anymore. A resolute old man - resolute, but still old- he had been sent to the sidelines by the rest of the Wayne - his - family. Still, he was a silent observer, a guardian to Bruce and the boys whenever they needed him.
And even though Bruce told him so many times to stay out of that cave (he had Penny- two as his new tech- assistant), that night, Alfred was down there, sipping his tea, watching Bruces bodycam. That was why he was the only one who had seen it coming when thee months later, a new boy wonder turned up. An exceptionally small child with a shaved head and two fire pois as weapons. Another street kid, it seemed, but Alfred knew better. And when the news made a special about the Batman’s new Robin, he prepared the other boy’s rooms. Because a feeling told him that they would come and ask questions. Questions that Master Bruce would not be willing to answer.
