Realistic or Modern Here's to the New Memories

Charlie frowned and quickly tried to leave when they got done. He frowned shakijg his head some "No, we need to go home Laura." He said quickly not noticing he hadn't called her Carmen.

Max smiled happily as she watched him running her fingers through Lana's hair "Hey there sweetie, did you have a good day with Uncle Norman?"

She swallowed hard and frowned some. That hurt a little more than she expected it would but she got back in the car and headed home with him, going straight up to bed, "Just get the grill started at 5 Charlie." She muttered quietly and shut their door behind her getting into bed and falling asleep.

Lana nodded and held onto her, "Is Daddy gonna stay home now?" She asked her hopefully. "I don't want him going back to hospital again." She told her frowning some

Max nodded smiling softly at her "Yeah he is gonna be home now." She said softly kissing the top of her head repeatedly

Charlie nodded some and took a deep breath looking anywhere and everywhere in the house for a drink once she was in bed

His mom came home after they’d gone out for breakfast smiling over at her son. “You getting stuff ready for tonight?” She asked him going to give him a hand.

Jeff smiled over at them some and got the spaghetti in. “Lana you want juice at dinner?” He asked her

Charlie nodded some and kept quiet as he continued to prepare the food. He took a deep breath and made his way to the fridge frowning some "Shit I'm missing a few things. I'll be right back." He mumbled getting his keys and made his way to the store.

Lana nodded happily watching her dad "Yes please! Daddy can I have a cookie for dessert? Uncle Norman got me some at the store." She said pointing to the unopened cookies ontop of the fridge

Jeff raised an eyebrow and looked over at the cookies. “Long as you eat everything.” He told her and watched her go find the dogs for a bit, pulling max into his side. “Nice to be home.” He murmured softly.

Carmen woke up around the late afternoon and wandered downstairs getting herself a drink and went to sit on the back porch with his mom amiling at her some. “It’s nice to have you here, I’m hoping it’ll help Charlie just relax a little bit.” She mumbled.

Max smiled some and nodded helping him with dinner "Very nice to be a proper home again." She said softly kissing him gently "I love you Jeff." She murmured

His mom nodded watching her son sip his soda and grill a few steaks "Yeah I'm sure he will be just fine. He just doesn't want to loose you." She said softly

Carmen frowned some and nodded slowly. “That’s uh... that’s one way to put it.” She sighed softly and spoke with her a little longer before going over to Charlie and slipped an arm around his waist. “Hey there handsome. Ryan just texted to say they’re on their way... you want anything else?” She asked him, reaching for his glass to get him a refill but frowned when he recoiled like she’d slapped him.

He smiled wide and held her to him kissing her back. “I love you too.” He murmured softly, getting dinner on the table and as promised gave Lana a cookie once she ate everything, eventually making it to bed with max and crawled in next to her, pulling her tiny frame into him.

Charlie gave a nod and frowned quickly snatching the glass away a panicked look in his eyes worried she would find out what he was actually drinking "I got this babe don't worry." He murmured trying to play it off

Max cuddled up as close as she could to him and sighed happily "Oh now this is what I think I missed the most physically." She said happily kissing him gently before she yawned big

She frowned some and just sighed quietly. “Alright... good chat.” She muttered heading into the kitchen to try and compose herself and not start getting worked up but she was getting more and more frustrated with him and she wasn’t sure how to even approach him anymore.

He chuckled quietly and kissed her head. “Mmm.... it’s a lot easier in this bed than at the hospital for sure.” He murmured into her hair.

Max nodded laughimg softly "Oh yes very much so." She murmured kissing the top of his head some more "I love you Jeffrey."

Charlie came in and gave a small sigh lookijg at her "I'm sorry babe....you just spooked me is all." He murmured giving a small smile before he went off to make himself amother drink

She shook her head and stayed in the kitchen a while longer until Ryan and molly arrived, heading outside then to socialise with everyone as much as she could, putting aside her upset for now and for the first half of the bbq she was having a good time until she went to sit with Ryan and Charlie while they were talking and she sat on his lap, smelling the booze radiating off of him and she felt her heart sink.

Jeff smiled tiredly at her, “I love you too gorgeous.” He murmured softly to her and held her close to him as he slowly drifted off to sleep more relaxed than he had been in months.

Charlie sat there chatting with Ryan not even realizing how bad he reaked of booze at the moment. He smiled happily at Carmen and kissed her cheek happily "Hello gorgeous you are looking so good right now." he murmured nuzzling his face in her neck inhaling the scent of her shampoo "Babe tell Ryan about how the horses are doing." he slurred

Max smiled softly at him and watched him for a bit before she started to drift off to sleep as well

She swallowed a little and gently took his glass off of him so he wouldn’t fuss, setting it on the ground. “They’re uh... they’re doing good as far as I know.... Charlie... a word.” She muttered getting up and trying to pull him into the house for a minute but when he wouldn’t budge she decided to go ahead and do it out there. “Charlie you’ve been drinking.” She whimpered. “What the hell were you thinking?” She snapped at him frowning when he went to stand up but stumbled around and Ryan had to get him propped up.

Charlie frowned some shaking his head "No no I'm talking to Ryan." He said giving her a small smile. He took a deep breath and tried to stand up stumbling a bit "Shhh shhh its okay Carmen." He murmured putting his hand on her shoulder for support

Carmen shook her head watching Ryan take him inside and molly just gave her a pitiful look while she tried to stay composed but she was furious now.

His mom saw the state of him and looked at him in shock and with disappointment "You stupid boy." She spat before slapping him straight across the face "I think this get together is over." She said to Ryan before she had her husband show them the door and went to find Carmen "Carmen? You okay sweetheart?"

She swallowed back tears and shook her head. “Not particularly.... I don’t know whether to be angry or upset or.... I just don’t know right now.” She mumbled, going to Charlie and getting him to go up to bed, making sure he was safe and he had a bucket and some painkillers with a bottle of water before clearing up for the evening, her energy disappearing fast tonight and by the time they were done with everything and locking up her hands were shaking. “I’m gonna go to sleep, I’ll uh, I’m sorry this trip is turning out this way for you.” She told her quietly and gave her a hug before heading upstairs to go lay down on the couch in their room instead of in bed with him.

His mother helped clean up with her and soon went to bed as well afterwards.

Charlie groaned as he woke up the next morning with a terrible hang over. He looked at the aspirin and frowned seeing his chip next to the water feeling his heart sink as he remembered what had happened the night prior. He felt ashamed of himself and when he saw Carmen on the small couch looking frail and tired he felt like he had been gut punched multiple times.

Max woke up in the morning and smiled softly as she watched Jeff sleep before she got up and made her way downstairs to start on breakfast for everyone.

She woke up to the sound of him shuffling about and just frowned over at him, sitting up slowly and carefully, running a hand over her face and tried to stand up, not saying a word to him, just making it to the bathroom and back, curling up on the couch again, finally looking at him properly. “So that’s it? You’re not even gonna say anything?” She muttered hoarsely.

he woke up before Lana was up and headed downstairs, smiling over at max and just slipped in behind her, holding her hips and kissing the back of her head. “Morning beautiful.” He murmured. “You want help?”

Charlie sat there staring at his chip the whole time and finally came out of his daze when she spoke "I'm sorry....I....I lost it yesterday.." he whispered taking a deep breath "When we were in Chemo....all I could see was Laura dying and you right next to her....and it just the image wouldn't go away....I'm so sorry Carmen."

Max smiled happily and shook her head some "Nope I've got it babe don't you worry." She murmured kissing him gently before she turned her attention back to breakfast "How did you sleep?"

Carmen frowned swallowing back angry tears, "You're sorry? Sorry for dragging me through the hospital when I could barely walk? Sorry for leaving me every fucking time I have to go in? For the drinking? For embarrassing the shit out of me? Lying? Which is it Charlie?" She muttered shaking her head, "I'm sorry that you are having to go through this again, trust me I wish you weren't and I wish I was okay but there's not much I can do to change the situation right now and I thought I could expect just a bit of support?!" She whimpered, "But no you've shut yourself off from every time I try and help you talk it out!" She was getting it all off of her chest now but he had truly pushed her over the edge last night.

Jeff smiled at her and rest his chin on top of her head "Best I've slept in months, impressed that Lana didn't try and crawl in between us to be honest." He chuckled a litttle and kissed her head gently "Speaking of, I'm gonna go check on her and get her up." He murmured, moving away and heading upstairs to go get his daughter out of bed so she could get ready for school.

Charlie took a deep breath and let her yell at him. He knew she was right, he knew he needed to get his shit together. He looked at her once she finished ans nodded a bit "You're right....and sorry isn't enough to tell you. I love you more than anything Carmen but I've only been thinking how much this is hurting myself and not how its hurting you." He said softly to her

Max smiled happily at him and kissed his cheek before he went off. She got everyone a plate and made sure to get drinks as well for the two of them. She was so happy to be home with her family again.

She swallowed back more tears and shook her head. “Never mind that! You fucking threw away a year and a half of sober because you wouldn’t open up and admit you need help Charlie! How many times am I gonna have to go through this with you?” She questioned him, standing up to get her cardigan on and took just a few steps before falling forward, no strength to hold herself up.

Jeff smiled and carried Lana downstairs seeing as she was still pretty sleepy, putting her down at the table. “You need a packed lunch or you getting food there?” He asked her.

Lana rubbed her eyes some clinging onto Jeff not wanting to let go of him at all "I like mommy lunch." She murmured meaning she wanted a sandwhich from Max

Charlie frowned and gave a small nod taking a deep breath "I know....and you won't have to deal with it Carmen. I'm going to fix myself.." he said looking over at her and quickly rushing to catch her when he saw her start to fall over
