Here there be dragons!

In the kingdom of Theolon, humans have integrated tamed dragons into their lives. From the smallest Fae dragon to the largest Grand, they all have a home within Theolon, much to the displeasure of Deluvos, a rivaling Kingdom that has not yet mastered the art of taming dragons. Deluvos is brewing war against Theolon and its dragons, but the problem is, no one in Theolon believes it. How could a dragonless country ever hope to take on one with dragons living amongst the common folk?
Magic.
No, seriously, they’re using magic to create monsters to oppose dragons.
With this unseen looming threat on the horizon, it is up to our unlikely heroes to rise to the challenge to discover, and stop Deluvos from conquering Theolon.
The continent this takes place on is called Drakonia, with a large mountain range in the center, coasts on all sides, Theolon to the North of the mountain range and Deluvos to the south. There is only one pass through the mountains, otherwise, you’ll have to go around said mountains.

Types of Dragons:
image0.jpg

The Feathered Dragon
Size: 6 - 8 ft long
Diet: Small Mammals, lizards, insects, birds
Habitats: humid, hot, tropical forests
Description: Long believed to be a purely mythological dragon, the coatyl is revered as a holy animal to the native people of its habitats. The number of wings may vary, and some are "born" from fire like a phoenix. Male coatyl have crown plumes used to attract the attention of females. Males have brightly colored plumage and feathers, whereas females exhibit earth tones to camouflage themselves. Often used as messenger birds.

The Work Horse
Size: up to 7 ft tall at the shoulder
Diet: Large game such as elk, moose, insects and sometimes other dragons
Habitats: Grasslands, open savannas to subarctic tundras
Description: The drake is a common flightless dragon that has been greatly domesticated. They all have four legs and short compact bodies allowing for swift running. They are highly adaptable to their environments, with many subspecies specially designed for almost any function. They have powerful jaws and sharp teeth to effectively capture and kill their prey. They typically have wedge-shaped heads allowing for binocular vision when hunting. They are pack-hunting animals. They have been bred throughout the world, resulting in hundreds of varieties such as small toy drakes to massive siege drakes. They are commonly used as guard animals, and many have had armor and harnesses custom-made for their specific occupation.

The Fairy Dragon
Size: 8 - 20 inches
Diet: Carnivore; insects, dragonflies, hummingbirds
Habitats: rural areas such as farmland
Description: Often mistaken for insects, Fae dragons have evolved forearms that make a second set of wings, and the legs and feet have developed long digits for grappling prey and holding onto small limbs. They fly like insects or hummingbirds, capable of hovering in midair, and move in any direction while holding any position. Fae come in many colors and shapes. Some breeds migrate while others hibernate through winter. Like magpies, they like to steal small shiny objects to line their nests. Fae also have a prehensile tail to give it better balance. They are often kept as nurturers for gardens and farms, as many possess the ability to manipulate plants.

The Greatest of the Great
Size: 15 - 75 ft long
Diet: Tuna, sturgeon, bass, porpoises, small whales, cetaceans, seals
Habitats: Coastal Areas
Description: Grand dragons are the most feared and famous dragons in the history of the world. They can be found nearly everywhere and can breathe fire or manipulate other elements with their breath weapons. Though they were once abundant, now they are quite rare. The bright colors of these species are more prominent in males than females. Grand dragons have quadrupedal bodies, long tails, serpentine necks, scaled armor, and massive bat-like wings. Most are highly intelligent.
Grand dragons are highly territorial and anti-social, even to other dragons.

Eastern Mountain Dragon
Size: 3 - 30 ft long
Diet: Omnivorous; fruits, bamboo, the meat of smaller animals when available
Habitats: Bamboo Jungles to mountains
Description: Loong are long, serpentine, four-legged dragons with prehensile tails. Loong are unique in that they are in the order of flightless dragons like drakes but are capable of limited flight. They don't possess dedicated appendages for flight like other dragons, instead, Loong use a unique construction of frills along its body to glide or "swim" through the air. They also have whiskers much like a catfish's, used to sense close-range movement. Its long serpentine body is able to constrict around enemies like a snake, and its four legs have sharp talons for fighting, in addition to a jaw of sharp teeth. Some can even spit caustic expectorant to frighten enemies. They tend to be reclusive and shy, living solitary lives.
Loong come in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. They tend to migrate for winter when their habitats begin to get cold.

The Armored Snake
Size: 25 - 50 ft long
Diet: large animals such as boar or deer
Habitats: Temperate to tropical climates. Lowlands and wetlands, swampy river banks, and salt water tidal basins
Description: One of the most infamous families of the dragon class, the Wyrm has been perhaps the most feared creature throughout all human cultures. The wyrm is distinguished by both its lack of wings and legs, looking much like an armored snake. Although typically unable to breathe fire, the wyrm is usually able to spray a cloud of misted poison that can paralyze and blind its prey, allowing the wyrm to swallow its catch whole.
Screenshot_20230129-160042_Kindle.jpg

The Wolf Dragon
Size: 20 - 35 ft long
Diet: Moose, elk, bear, caribou, other dragons, and fish for those who live near water
Habitats: Alpine regions, sometimes rocky rivers, lakes, seashores
Description: The wyvern has two legs, two wings, and a spiny tail surmounted by a (typically) poisonous stinger. Its durable hide of armored scales gives the wyverns plenty of protection to fight off other predators and even larger dragons when fighting in a pack. They do not possess a breath weapon, but rather their stinger is the source of their elemental discharge. This, combined with their powerful body and ferocious maw of razor-sharp teeth make them formidable foes. They live in packs of up to 12 individuals, ranging over a territory many hundreds of miles in area.
In the fall, male wyvern wing patterns become vibrant to attract a mate and will fight other suitors, sometimes resulting in death. They usually hibernate through winter.

Elemental Magics:
There are 7 base elements known to this world. Each element has a constructive force and a destructive force, meaning it will either strengthen another element or destroy it. Each Element is also associated with a direction and a type of dragon, though dragons don’t always have to utilize the element they are associated with. An individual dragon will only have one element in its whole life, whereas a human that knows magic can use any of the elements at any time, given they’ve learned enough about using that element, at the cost of the magic being weaker and no breath weapons. Humans are kind of a jack of all trades, master of none type of deal.

Constructive Force: Earth supports Metal
Destructive Force: Earth limits Verdure
Associated Direction: Center
Associated Dragon: Drake
Magic: Dragons of the earth element can manipulate the earth easier than other dragons, have more stamina, and are immune to most diseases. However, they can’t generate new earth, and artificial earth (like glass) is harder to control, and the larger the amount of earth that the dragon tries to control, the more energy it costs. Many earth dragons are used in mining and plowing fields, and sometimes construction.
Constructive Force: Water Supports Verdure
Destructive Force: Water douses Fire
Associated Direction: North
Associated Dragon: Loong
Magic: Dragons of the water element can breathe underwater, spit water as a breath weapon, control water temperature, and predict the weather. However, their affinity for water means they aren’t usually well suited to land and must consume a lot of water to function. It is also a common misconception that they can create weather when in reality it is just incredible accuracy with which they can predict it.
Constructive Force: Fire creates Smoke, aka Toxin
Destructive Force: Fire melts metal
Associated Direction: South
Associated Dragon: Grand
Magic: Dragons of the fire element can manipulate fire, use fire as a breath weapon, and cannot be burned. However, fire dragons are considered “glass cannons” in that they can deal a lot of damage but are physically fragile, and require a lot of energy to control an element as volatile as fire.
Constructive Force: Sparks, or lightning, ignites fire
Destructive Force: Lightning always seeks the fastest route to the earth, striking it
Associated Direction: Up
Associated Dragon: Coatyl
Magic: Dragons of the lightning element can control electricity, generate their own electricity like an electric eel, and are usually faster than other dragons of the same species. However, they can’t always choose where their electrical output goes, as electricity always takes the easiest path to the ground, and they tend to attract lightning storms.
Constructive Force: Verdure is fuel for the sparks that make lightning
Destructive Force: Plants can cure poison
Associated Direction: East
Associated Dragon: Fae
Magic: Dragons of the verdure element can control plants and speed up their growth, and even know what’s going on distances away by connecting to a network of plants in the area, kinda like spying through plants if the root system goes far enough. However, they burn easily and need a lot of sunlight to maintain the amount of energy they use to control plants. They do not do very well in the dark.
Constructive Force: Metal enriches water (Think like the minerals in water that make it healthier for you)
Destructive Force: Metal conducts Lightning
Associated Direction: West
Associated Dragon: Wyrm
Magic: Dragons of the metal element have very strong defenses, can manipulate metal, and are immune to electricity. However, they tend to be very slow and heavy, and are not good swimmers because of this.
Constructive Force: Toxin (smoke) settles into ash (Earth)
Destructive Force: Toxins taint water
Associated Direction: Down
Associated Dragon: Wyvern
Magic: Toxin dragons can produce venom with either paralyzing effects or acidic effects, and can manipulate diseases and poisonous substances. However, they have a bad reputation for spreading plagues by accident or contaminating drinking water, and they can easily make people sick.

Gender: Male

Magic? What Kind?: Limited Toxin magic, mostly in the form of alchemical creations

Special Skills: Can identify most herbs in Theolon and some in Deluvos with ease. Loosely aware of those in the other places in Drakonia. Gets along particularly well with Wyrms.
Weaknesses: Absent minded and occasionally reckless, also talks too much for his own good.
Bio: Dorrum Ludley is an eccentric and wild man, determined toward the study of herbology and all things toxic. He enjoys the company of Wyrms, finding them very honest creatures, and particularly helpful in his study of toxicity. Dorrum generally does things alone, but that's mostly because many are put off by his many, many quirks. He talks at a million miles per hour, and often about one of 4 subjects: Herbology, Toxin studies, himself, and his dragon friends. Capable of holding a conversation about other things to an extent though. Dorrum craves adventure, and likes to go out of his way to find strange plants. Surprisingly, Talleus and Peepaw seem to enjoy it as well, as long as they're with Dorrum or together. Dorrum will always be happy, carefree, and content as long as he has his friends and his studies.
Other:
Wants to fill out an encyclopedia of every plant in Drakonia, even if he has to do it across multiple generations.
Hates when someone refers to Tally, Peepaw, or any dragon in animalistic terms, or believes them to be stupid.

After building up their relationship they've become inseperable, and extremely protective of one another. After they became friends, Dorrum and Peepaw became her new territory. Tally is capable of holding her breath for about an hour at a time, and is familiar with hunting in both wet and dry environments. Has a bit of bloodlust, but it's managable as long as Dorrum is around. However, she is a hunter through and through, and nothing will change that.

Gender: Agender
Pronouns: He/They

Violinist: Coda's instrument of choice is the Violin, while he is a well rounded and skilled musician in his own right, his talents shine the brightest while playing the Violin!
Beast Master: Due to his heritage, Coda is well versed in training and handling dragons. He can identify types of dragons and their respective elements fairly well. He also has extensive knowledge about caring for various breeds.
Weaknesses:
Electrifying: His most glaring weakness, due to the nature of his element, Coda is sort of a walking conduit. If there is electricity hes almost guaranteed to be struck by it. While Coda does have natural tolerance for being electrocuted, depending on the strength of the discharge, the resulting shock can still be painful, and even deadly
Double Life: Coda has 2 lives, so to speak, and if either side gets even a hint of the other, it would shake his life and family relations to the core. Coda will do just about anything to keep his moonlight musician life a secret.

Bio: Coda grew up in a family of beastmasters. He was raised alongside his adopted brother Raevar to take over the family legacy as Dragon Tamer. Name: Renne Meadowthorne

Race: Human

Age: 24

Appearance: of average height and a nimble build, he spends much of his time talking to his dragons or practicing his magic. He has dark hair, hazel eyes that have a bit of a cloudy look to the pupils. The glasses his parents tried having him wear never really helped much. He typically where's boring clothes, but has decorated them with the scales of his friends in rather garish patterns whenever the scales shed off or become so loose that it is a nuisance to the Dragons. He has no real fashion sense at all. He has a scare under his left eye where a rock had hit him when he fell on his face, that goes up over his nose. The nose is also a bit crooked, as he was unable to set it properly when he fell.

Weapon of choice: Magic: primary Earth, secondary: fire, magic items

Dragons:

Fae: Spot

Loong: Nugin

Notable skills: herbology, bilingual, minor lockpicking, magic

Notable weakness: very poor vision, likes to show off his magic, has a tendency to think his dragons make him invincible, terrified of the dark.

Background:

Hailing from a family of herbal traders, he was constantly on the move. While not rich, his family wasn't poor either. Growing up, he leanred the languages of many people as they followed their route year after year selling and trading their goods. Seeds, dried plants, live herbs, and sometimes even exotic. Fruits or vegetables if they could manage to score a good trade with any ports.

He was born with very poor vision, nor could his parents get him to where glasses without always breaking them. Either not taking them off when he went to bed or returning with them smashed after some reckless 'adventure' exploring the area around their camps. An old wizard ended up joining them on their route when he was 8, and he quickly grew enraptured by what the old man could do. When the old man tried to teach the boy a few things, he was pleased to find the boy had the gift and stayed with the family to teach the child the Arcane art. Reading and writing was the biggest challenge, but he managed with his blurry world.

One day. When he was 10, he was away from the camp well past dark- when he was suppose to be back. Leading to a hunt that found him playing in a field of Dragons. Not from anywhere that tamed dragons to be safely handled, but they found their son happily chasing the beasts and squealing with joy when they turned around and chased him in turn. One in particular seemed to have taken notice of his short sight, and had spent the game ensuring his didn't fall over anything. When they called him over to come home, the Fae followed. While they weren't certain about a wild Dragon, they found that it seemed to bring good luck to their budget and healthier plants to be sold. The dragon very quickly became a spoiled member of the family, especially as they realized it was naturally acting as a set of eyes for their nearly blind son.

When he was 18, he decided he didn't want to stay in his family's business forever, much to their dissapointment. But they also knew forcing him to stay would cause resentment and let him leave in the hopes he would not like it on his own and come back. He sends letters to the people they visited for trade occasionally, but has enjoyed his independence far too much to return home. With his friend always nearby, and his magic incapable of being removed like a sword or bow, he thought he could take on anything.

That was until he was walking thru a city in the dark and found himself being robbed. Where'd he'd not only lost anything of monetary value, but his best friend too. He quickly realized how defenseless he felt without the little Fae guiding him, and found himself incredibly frightened in the middle of the street in the dark of a city he didn't know.

Without anything to hire help, he'd been left to find his friend on his own. It had taken over two months of grueling tracking, back tracking with a lot of just following his gut when he came to a mountain cave where he could hear his friend crying and hissing in rage. All while they mocked it for being in able to do anything as it was dark and cold, and talking of how much coin they might get for it. In anger, he hadn't watched where he stepped. A loose rock making him fall flat on his face and sliding off the mountains path and over the edge. In the terror of thinking he was dead for sure, he passed out as he fell.

When he woke, it was not to find himself dead or crippled with a body full of broken bones. He was hurting, like he'd landed on something hard, but alive and whole- and warm. When he dared to open his eyes he came face to face with a much larger dragon. A long, snake like body. At first he thought a warm but it was far too frilled. Something in the way the dragon suddenly relaxed told him it was glad he was unharmed. He realized it was a Fire Loong. It must have seen him fall. Uncertain of what to do, the two watched each other for a long time. He didn't know where he was, or if his friend was still where he had been. At first, he thought the Loong to be another wild dragon, and was much more wary now that he was grown and this was much larger than his little friend.

The more he studied it, he realized that there was no way this great beast was truly wild. It used its body to shield him from the outside air, kept a fire burning with its breath, and even let him take first pick of what it went out and brought back for food. Sometimes game, sometimes fruit. This had to be a trained and tamed Dragon. When he spoke, it moved its head to show he had its full attention. Far different from his more spastic friend from the wild. He wondered at what happened to its previous rider, but the Dragon could not answer him. After a couple days of thinking, he told it of his plight, and asked it for help. At first, it seemed cautious of the request, but finally seemed to agree as it lowered its head. Having never ridden a dragon. He wasn't sure about riding, but knew he had to trust it.

Being taken back to where he'd fallen, he found the bandits till there, but now they were quiet. He could still hear the chirping his friend calling for help, though. The thugs had no idea how to handle a dragon so large, as the beast roared and tore them apart before they could even get their weapons. Reunited, he'd expected the Loong to go its own way again. However, it decided to follow him. It proved capable of continuing to feed itself, much to his relief as he knew feeding such a large beast would cost a lot of money.

Fae:

Name: Spot (he was a child when he named it)

Mostly green with yellow- gold and brown patterns. Much like a leaf changing color in autumn. Her eyes are red.

Spot can be quiet all over the place when it is full of energy. Dragonflies and nocturne are its favorite food, and her favorite place is curled up around her humans shoulders where it is warm. She noticed his lack of vision when he was young, and has been his seeing eye dragon ever since they met. She can be terribly ill mannered as she was never properly trained. Their bond is one of mutual companionship.

Magic: Verdure

Loong:

Name: Nugin

Burnt Orange in color with red-orange bands over the back of his long body. He has blue eyes.

Nugin is normally a rather calm presence in the group. He was lonely after losing his first rider in a fight, and depressed in failing to protect his riders life. When he'd seen the young human falling from a cliff, he hadn't hesitated to rescue the young man. He has had formal training, but stayed in the wild over returning home riderless. He is quite determined to protect this young human better than he had before.

Size: Unusually small for his species, around 12ft in length
Bio: Jysiss thought that he would be content with his river territory. He thought that he would live a quiet life out in the wilderness with no one to bother him. All those notions were dashed when he felt a pair of strong jaws clamp down on his neck. No amount of thrashing or spraying water would dissuade his captor, who promptly plopped him in front of Aylin and refused to let him escape back into the water. After many weeks of insistence by Teddryn, and much care and food from Aylin, he begrudgingly settled down to be Aylin's companion. A dragon of slow, sleepy temperament, one might mistake his sedentary nature for something harmless. But a cold, deep hunger lurks behind those yellow eyes; the perfect balance of patience for an ambush predator. It's a good think Aylin keeps him well fed.
