Demon Slayer
In 1895, a wealthy banker and occultist named Wynnfield Scott Lovecraft started up a fringe esoteric sect of demonologists, witches and warlocks to revive a lost religion, first practiced thousands of years ago in ancient Mesopotamia. These forgotten peoples had revered and worshiped a group of dark cosmic deities, known only as The Old Ones. The Old Ones were said to be monstrous entities of immense power who could drive men mad with a mere thought. The patron god of the Earth realm was known as Cthulhu and he resided in the dark corpse city of Ryleh, which sank beneath the waves millions of years ago in a great catastrophe. In honor of this dead and horrible abode, Lovecraft named his cult "The Church Of The Sinking City" and they devoted themselves to reviving Cthulhu and the rest of the Old Ones. In order to do this, The Church believed that they must first obtain a book known as the Necronomicon...an ancient book of accursed spells that would raise Ryleh from beneath the depths. Before he died, Lovecraft uttered a prophecy. That the Old Ones would indeed return to Earth, but only at the the behest of ten Blood Prophets that would purge the way. The first five prophets, would be the Heralds, and it was they that would reveal the first half of the Necronomicon to the Church. They would mark the path in the sacrificial blood of the slaughtered. After the onset of many years, the second set of Blood Prophets would arrive, they would be the Harbingers and much the same way the Heralds had, they would lead the way to the second half of the accursed book, leaving a trail of bodies and blood to mark the path. Once the Necronomicon was whole, it would signal the second coming of Cthulhu, when Ryleh would emerge from the blackened waters. After the senior Lovecraft died, his son Howard, better known as H.P. would take over the Church Of The Sinking City and lead the group into underground obscurity. The group would lay dormant for almost a century, until in the year 2013, they suddenly re-surfaced. The Church left a cryptic and frightening video on Youtube in which they proclaimed that the first half of the prophecy had come true. In the video they displayed five human skulls belonging to five of the most notorious serial killers in American history. Edward Gein, Jefferey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Theodore Bundy and their most recent acquisition, the skull of Richard Ramirez. The Church proclaimed that they had been the Heralds in Lovecraft's prophecy, and through their bloodshed, they had led to the path of the first half of the Necrnomicon. Now the Church is after The Harbingers and after acquiring them, the Church believes they will have completed the prophecy and Cthulhu will return.
**So this will be a horror/mystery/crime drama RP rooted in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. There is a massive and sadistic cult who call themselves The Church Of The Sinking City who have dedicated themselves in service to the pantheon of the Necronomicon i.e. Cthulhu, Azerthoth, Yog-Sothoth etc...They believe that the five brutal serial killers mentioned above were the agents of the Old Ones, paving the way for their return. They were the first five Blood Prophets, known as the Heralds. In the Necronomicon, a second set of Blood Prophets is named...these are the Harbingers and their crimes are seen as the final signs to usher in the coming of the Old Ones. The Church have pinpointed five more individuals, whom they believe are the Harbingers. That's where our characters come in. We are the Harbingers...a gang of five separate serial killers, psychos and mass murderers who are believed by a bloodthirsty cult to be divine prophets. Only trouble is, this is news to us. Throughout the course of the RP, we will discover what strange forces connect us with The Old Ones and whether or not we were ordained by dark cosmic gods to bring about a supernatural apocalypse.
