02. Persona.

Personality:
Guillaume is something of a bear in temperament, filled with lively, lazy and terrifying all in questionably good measure. Vulnerable to outbursts that go against his better nature, the Knight is full of continual bubbling conflict; torn between his duty to the crown, his family, and himself. Known by many for his valiant efforts abroad and skirmishes at the borders, De Clermont was able to find his place in court through blood and sweat. As much as he engages in the glorious retellings of every battle, those places stain a man’s spirit - staring into the face of human kindness with a killing blow. Between those he knows better, Guille is an affectionate man and finds himself revered as a father figure by the soldiers he takes under his wing.

Of his better, logical thoughts, Clermont is compulsively curious. Always restless, Clermont finds adventure to foreign lands or simply mapping the woodlands relaxing. He prefers to be occupied rather than left with his thoughts and it shows itself in the unlikeliest of hobbies, habits, and boyish grins. Once fascinated, he can’t walk away so easily - even if that may be at the expense of others. Good-humoured no matter the situation with a resting face of thunder, whoever can make the man laugh has earned a friend.

Among nobles, Guille sticks out like a sore thumb. A fighting man, rough and calloused with a booming voice made for talking over taverns, getting into fights and singing bawdy songs. He’s often the plainest titled man in sight, preferring his own comfort to expectation. Not that anyone would dare mention it to his face. Nevertheless, for a big man, he’s quite the dancer from all those swordsmanship lessons and a natural, warm charmer.

Likes:
+ Hounds, man’s best friend. Fond of the faithful canines for their friendship, De Clermont has kept many hunting companions and favourites by his side.
+ Cold mornings where the frost lies undisturbed, save for those early enough to rise. Sharp, fresh air and invigorating icy breeze cures all ailments.
+ Playing cards, although Guillaume finds himself a terrible opponent. With a hole in his pocket at poker, he's not put money on them since.
+ Partaking of the drink and indulging a smooth, hoppy ale on a summer's eve.
+Brawling, wrestling, and swordsmanship; anything pertaining to a little violence. There’s nothing else like it to get the humours balanced and the blood up.

Dislikes:
- The damp sort of heat which makes you swealter and rust in your armour. He appreciates little of the summertime besides cool mornings and dappled evenings.
- Undeserved authority, although Guille finds himself surrounded by it daily.
- Icing and overly sweet desserts, the Knight has a low tolerance of sugar and prefers subtle or bitter confectionery.
- Provoking bad luck on purpose; as a soldier, De Clermont adopted military superstitions and sailors rituals to bring some amount of comfort in the fray of battle.
- Tea sets, due to the very small cup handles.

Habits:
- Rises at dawn on the double, he’d do so even if the world was ending. The Knight is a light sleeper with a gifted, or rather, vindictive internal body clock that likes seeing Clermont suffer.
- Suffers awful dreams, the type to make you twist and turn in the sheets until gasping for air.
- Hums and whistles folk tunes to himself throughout work, downtime, and games.

Fears:
- Death. Guillaume is no stranger to the black-cloaked guide and does not fear the afterlife, however, he’s seen good men die facedown. Writhing bodies, jagged bone, hot flesh.
- The open ocean, the Knight hates it and suffers severe sea-sickness.
