Colosseum Heavens Arena

Nen is a tool people use to fight in HxH. It's their special abilities. Nen doesn't get introduced until after the Hunter Exam Arc~~ Every character has a Nen type and individual way of using it.

Here's a simple overview of the types:

latest

So you create the character and their abilities, then the exam determines their nen?

The exam doesn't determine Nen. A Hunter learns Nen and then unlocks their abilities, or in other words Hatsu.

The Hatsu they use is determined by their Nen type. Hunter X Hunter spends a lot of time discussing the finer points of Nen. It's very layered but here are some basic things. People are born with a Nen type. Like an Emitter--which can be found on the chart--is able to project his aura. He couldn't expertly materialize objects like a Conjurer could because it's not his type. So his special skill, or Hatsu, would center around Emitting aura. An example would be emitting a ball of energy.

So, the first step in creating a character's ability would be deciding their Nen type. Nen types are also sometimes linked with their personality.

  • A simple-minded yet honest person is often an Enhancer.
  • Transmutters are usually whimsical liars.
  • Emitters are impatient and hot headed.
  • Manipulators are logical but family oriented.
  • Conjurers are high-strung and serious.
  • Specialists are individualistic and charismatic.

Nen isn't just about Hatsu however.

There are abilities most Nen users know regardless of type. Here's a short explanation of those:

  • Gyo: Concentrating a larger than normal portion of their aura into one specific body part. Gyo increases the strength of that one body part, but leaves the rest of the body more vulnerable. Gyo is most often used in the eyes.
  • En: En is when one extends their aura further than normal then shapes the aura, usually into a sphere. Someone using En can feel the shape and movement of anything entering their circle. Making it difficult to attack them by surprise.
  • Shu: Shu allows a user of Nen to extend their aura's envelopment onto an object, allowing them to use that object as if it were an extension of their own body.
  • Ko: All of an individual's aura is concentrated into one particular body part. This makes that one body part exceptionally powerful, but leaves the rest of the body completely unprotected.
  • Ken: Ken is a defensive technique where a Nen-user maintains a state of Ko over their entire body, allowing them to defend against attacks from any direction. Ken is useful but is tiring to maintain.

Cross' explanations need to be put into the thread somewhere, lol.

But seriously guys, Hunter x Hunter is a really good anime and I am usually pretty cynical about shonens of its length. So go watch it!

I take it that if caught off guard someone who perhaps can use fire or even lightning can scorch the plants of Tsu? @Black Masquerade

(Gotta find a weakness for the plant man~)

Sure, that would work. Pretty sure plants aren't very fond of scorching, some weedkiller might do the trick too (jk). I tried to make the plant not suck, but it seems I went overboard a bit. :P

@LifeNovel

Okie dokie. I've read the mechanics of the rp and I have a question...

How are experiences determined? Is there a dice roll or do we get to choose how much experience with nen our character has with nen?

It's your choice of how many years of experience your character has with Nen. I'm wanting to test this theory out. If it doesn't work out in like the first two or three battles then I will place a change. Otherwise I trust that there won't be such old characters like 110 or something like that.

Yeah I didn't get the first notif lol

Sounds interesting and I think I may see about joining. I have never seen Hunter x Hunter but now I have a desire to see it, so there may be another show to binge watch in my near future (great just what I need >.>)

xD

The show has 148 episodes if I remember correctly~

@Lunaria Silver

The brother of your character, Killua, has no connection to the one in the show or manga yes? Just wanted to check that.

And what weapons will be having in the arena? I see that she is flexible with many but she can only have so much on her during the tournament.

Otherwise she looks great, I'll trust you in that you'll know when to allow weakness among her Nen abilities and whatnot~

She conjures daggers. And yes, it does. Is this completely oc, because she's already a very developed character and I won't be able to use her if she can actually have no connection to the canon manga Zoldycks.

Alright. And I would have preferred OC, but I guess I'll let her slide. I would even be fine if she's from a distant generation of the canon Zoldycks, but meh.

Well is this in the future? Is it in a different time period because I could adjust a couple of things, though it would be weird.

Yup, yup. Mmmm I should probably define that somewhere. And it's okay if it's weird. The commentator is simply gonna say a few blurbs introducing the participant.
