Realistic or Modern Hawkes & Sawyer Paranormal Investigators (In-Character)

Hartwell stopped in his tracks and turned to smile at Mel with a thumbs up, holding the tray with one hand. It was a well-known fact that the PIs adore Melissa, even if only being a year getting to know her. She'd always show concern for their wellbeing, going as far as visiting the agency to deliver the drinks when she didn't need to. Even the moody Ashley had grown somewhat fond of the barista.

"You're always welcome, Mel." The werewolf did a little bow then opened the door, the cool air again slipping past the man and disturbing the hanging lights. "Come visit when you finish up. Everyone's probably busy on a case."

Hawkes gave the two a simple farewell and retreated to the second floor, climbing the rusted spiral stairs Sawyer started tidying up the office. Upon paying attention to the surroundings outside of the HSPI's room, it was clear the place was bare and not as maintained in contrast to the HSPI office (though messy) Evan and Jack came from. Old wallpaper, ornate wall scones that need dusting and new lightbulbs, and a worn carpet that covered the hallway floor.

Cars and people had filled the avenue by then, the once serene street thriving with life compared to the morning. A mop of blonde hair joined the sea of humans, his coat flying behind him as he jogged lightly across the zebra stripes. He had stayed too long and the coffees are losing their heat.

'Well I'm screwed,' he thought with a soft chuckle. This wasn't the first time he had been distracted whilst out for a coffee/snack run. The worst thing that could ever happen with him bringing back lukewarm drinks would be a cold stare from Ashley (but she's at school so haha) or an annoyed sigh from the usually relaxed Hawkes. He had always been picky when it came to hot chocolate.

As soon as he crossed the street, a scent immediately stood out from the car smoke and baking pastries. Hartwell narrowed his eyes, thinking,

'Werewolf.' So far, majority of the PIs encounters with werewolves were unpleasant, mostly having to deal with ferals. Though there are friendlier werewolves he's met, it still didn't shake his scepticism. He looked around, spotting Evan and Jack at the entrance to the building he called home.

Jack took the paper and began to read it over as she walked down the steps. "I took a cab then walked. Did you bring a car? We can drove together or I can go home really quick and put mine."

Jack hummed under her breath, she had to admit she was a little afraid that they would something truly amiss. Still, they would just have to find out.

"How do you want to approach this?" Jack asked suddenly. Evan seemed to have some experience in this realm, she would defer to his expertise as she was somewhat clueless.

Evan Blackwood

Evan's green Jeep chirps. He hops in and ignites the engine, strapping in his belt.

"Bianca Fink," he recites to Jack as he glances at their destination again. Address: 4 Pine End, Apt. 18 (Second Floor), Granite Heights. One of the newer apartments that reside close to the business district, fancy and modern, quite civilized. Number: (XXX) 527-0284. Date Reported 'Missing': 2 March 2016.

"Daughter's Brooke. You wanna call Mrs. Fink, ask her if it's cool we head down there today?"

There is a rolled-up bag of dog food (salmon) and a thick red leash, tossed in the back with a flattened kennel and some fast food trash. Some spilled tarot cards, tattoo magazines, and a rainbow flag.

"Sorry for the mess!"

"It's fine! Thanks for letting me hitch a ride!" Jack gives Evan a smile, taking in the items but no commenting. She didn't want to be rude after Evan was kindly giving her a ride. Jack pulled out her smart phone and checked the paper again.

It was so weird to her, how quickly this was moving, She looked at Evan for a moment. He seemed confident at least. She dialed the number and put the phone to her hear as it started to ring. She was a bit nervous talking to the mother, but she could do it. Hopefully they could wrap this up quickly, heaven knew running away never was fun. Jack smiled at little at the thought, thinking about days back when she was younger and felt like she had nothing to lose.

As the two drove away, Hartwell dashed straight to the agency, swinging the office door open to the messy room. Sawyer continued to carry stacks of books to their designated shelves, the titles along of 'The Satanic Bible', 'An Imbecile's Guide to Exorcism', 'The Secret Doctrine', 'Inferno' and many more caught his eyes temporarily before shifting back to who carried them. It still disturbed him that they owned a collection of dark and weird books, the man visibly grimacing.

"Sawyer, there's a werewolf-"

"-who happens to be our new assistant, along with another young lady," Sawyer finished with a smile as she shelved the worn books with care, some on the verge of falling apart. Hartwell relaxed, releasing a sigh of relief.

"I thought they've found you guys."

"And they won't. Not that we have any superior position over them anyway." The shelf in front of her filled, she dusted her hands off with her long skirt and turned back to the couches. "We don't know what they're up to, and they don't know what we're up to. Both ways will cause trouble."

In an instant, her call was answered, a sharp voice on the other side muttering an effortless and rehearsed, "Bianca speaking. Look, if this is about the proposition-"

"... If this is about the proposition-" Jack blinked, proposition, that was an odd word to use. She filed that information away for later, she was sure that would bear looking into. What on earth could that be about? Jack dug out her notebook out of her purse. When she had found it she got out her pencil and wrote down the word proposition. She figured having notes wouldn't go awry, it would always be good to be organized. She stayed perfectly quiet for a moment, hoping the women would go further. She'd only stay quiet a second, just to see if Ms. Fink would respond again, and then act as if the sound had been cutting out on her end. Telemarketers did that all the time to her, waiting until she repeated "hello?" a few times before actually speaking.

"-we can speak about it later..." Bianca trailed off, realising it wasn't the person she expected. It better not be one of them dammned telemarketers, she thought, rolling her eyes. "...who is this? Hello?" Bianca asked with uncertainty.

(Sorry for the short reply. In a rush atm)

"-ullo? Hello? Can you hear me?" Jack started, making sure to start her sentence in the middle of the word, as if she had just been talking for a longer amount of time. Her mind was racing, who did Ms. Fink was originally calling? It may be nothing, just Jack was getting a weird feeling about it. She wrote what Ms. Fink had continued with on her note pad, she would have to talk with Ethan about this after the call, something seemed fishy. "I said I was with Hawkes and Sawyer? Is this Ms. Bianca Fink?"

She glanced at Ethan, trying not to look as foreboding as she felt. Something wasn't right. But... was she over reacting?
