Fandom Hatchetfield Roleplay {clementinn & MossforRoss 1x1}

To say that Jeremy's school life was fine would be a gross lie. He was a victim of the judgment of his peers just as much as any of the nerds at the school. Few people survived the wolves of Hatchetfield High unscathed, to be fair, but he was well aware that he made it easy to bully him. He'd never let the bullying stop him from being himself before and he sure wasn't about to start now. Still, though, it was annoying.

Joy made it easier. He'd never met anyone as keen to stand up to bullies- to Max Jägerman- as her. She had an unrivaled sense of justice, and she didn't mind his presence. Which wasn't very common at all. It was the start of a new school day, and Jeremy bounced into the school, tail and ears attached as per usual and with his headphones on blast. He clung onto the straps of his backpack as he navigated the hallways of every nerd's worst nightmare. He tried to view things positively, not let negative influences get him down. How poorly could things go when the day had started completely fine?

Jeremy stopped by his locker, pausing to deposit his backpack. His first class was with Joy, if he remembered correctly.

Joy was nothing if not stubborn. If she made a decision, there was nothing anyone could do to change her mind. From the time she was a freshman, she’d decided that she was going to be top of her class, she would get into a good college, and that nobody would be getting picked on under her watch. That last one, strangely enough, was the hardest to achieve. Hatchetfield High had a bullying problem, and she was only sometimes lucky enough to get an adult involved. Even then, it still didn’t stop.

But Joy believed that everyone got what was coming to them eventually, so she kept it up and defended the kids who needed it, waiting patiently for the day certain others got their comeuppance. She’d befriended Jeremy that way, so surely she must’ve been doing something right.

She spotted him by his locker and hurried over. She was always early to school, something about extra study time and catching the teachers before they got too overwhelmed with their work. Every day she waited, keeping herself busy until Jeremy showed up so the two of them could walk to class together.

Like expected, not long after his arrival to his locker, he spotted Joy coming his way. She always got to school first- not that he'd ever made any attempts of beating her on that.
He pulled off his headphones, as he got the correct books from his locker.

"Hi Joy!" He greeted, giving her a bright smile upon her approach. "Did you get the documents I texted you this morning? They're not homework, its just fanfiction, but I could use a beta tester. How'd you sleep, by the way?"
He babbled on, as per usual, shutting the locker and locking it. His thoughts went about a mile a minute and, if allowed, so did his words. He didn't take offense to being told to calm down, well aware of his occasional intensity.

'Fanfiction,' 'shipping,' 'canon', Joy wasn't all that familiar with many things happening on the internet. She didn't give herself enough time to watch many TV shows or play many video games, her dedication most often fell to studying alone. Still, she nodded along anyway. Jeremy was a friend, she could shove aside a couple of mental filing cabinets to make room for some new terminology to at least try to understand for him.

"I slept fine, I guess." A blatant lie. She never did. Humans supposedly spent a third of their lives sleeping, that was time that could be well-spent doing other things if you got enough caffeine in your system, or so Joy thought. She quickly waved a hand, as if waving off the question.

"You finished your assignment too, right?"

Jeremy hummed, not ignorant to the fact that she probably did not sleep fine, but also well aware that him pestering her about it would do no good. Some things were better left forgotten for the moment.

Speaking of momentarily forgetting. Jeremy froze like a deer in the headlights of a truck hurling towards it at the mention of the assignment. He hadn't fully forgotten it, it'd been at the back of his head, calling his name... He'd just... Sort of ignored its call in favor of more instantly rewarding stuff.
He gave her a sheepish smile and batted his eyelashes at her innocently, "I'm... Working on it?"

"Jeremy! You're lucky it's due tomorrow and not this morning!" She pointed an accusatory pencil at him. She wasn't mad, more concerned for his academic well-being, but a lot of Joy's emotions tended to get wrapped up in the passion she had for everything her life touched and it came out sounding a little angry.

She let out a sigh and adjusted her glasses- the big round kind that nicely framed her freckled face. "If you really need it," She started, looking over her shoulder like what she was about to tell him was highly illegal "I can talk to the teacher and see if I can let them give you an extension. But you really should just finish the assignment before tomorrow!"

"I can do it, I can do it! Don't worry!" He promised, well aware there was a very real chance he wasn't going to. Usually his most productive moments were when time had almost ran out. He was well acquainted to the method of fucking around for a whole week and then doing the whole essay in one night. While not the most reliable process, it usually worked just fine for him.

"I got stuck doing something, you know how it is..." He was pretty sure she didn't. The two of them had entirely different priorities. He was a big fan of frolicking through life, but school kind of killed that vibe.

“I know, I know. I just want you to do well, that’s all! Assignments can really pile up sometimes, I don’t want you falling behind.”

She tapped her shiny black shoes and checked her watch “Speaking of falling behind, we should get to class.”

"I know that." He smiled at her.
And he did. If there was anything that was abundantly clear it was that joy cared about him, and that just sort of happened to be caring about how he did in school by extension.
He didn't mind. It was nice. It was helpful.

"Yes! You're right. Let's go." He glanced at a clock. Before meeting Joy he was probably late to every class, at least by a little.
And off they went, heading toward the classroom.

“Y’know, I heard that something happened with-“ She looked around and lowered her voice “Max Jägerman. I don’t know what yet, but I keep hearing whispers.”

Joy might’ve been crazy enough to stand up to Max, but even she still was a little afraid of calling any of his unwanted attention. He was vulgar and violent and if Joy could help it, she wanted nothing to do with him. If she was going to get involved, it would be her own decision.

His eyebrows rose in surprise, and he instinctively glanced around at the hallways at the mention of Max Jägerman, the longterm dictator and tormentor of Hatchetfield High.

"Really??... God, I hope so." He said quietly, like he was scared the man himself would manifest behind him at the mere mention.
"Just a little bit of Karma for him, that's all I ask."

"It's either karma or an outright act of revenge." Her shoes clicked against the floor, and she kept her head surprisingly high considering her social status. "I heard Stephanie Lauter was there. But I've also heard that there were ghosts involved, so I don't know what to believe. I'll have to investigate further if I want real answers."

She looked around again, just like Jeremy, and went quiet for a moment. Avoiding Max almost seemed a little too easy today. Kids were usually cowering in fear, but she saw none of that at the moment. "... Have you seen him, actually? I'm starting to think he's not even here today."

Ghosts? He hoped not. He actually believed in ghosts, but he didn't see how they'd choose to involve themselves with Mac Jägerman... So that was probably not true then. Either way he pulled a face at the idea,
"Yeesh..."

He paused at her question, throwing another look over his shoulder. Now that she mentioned it, there'd been a surprising lack of Max today. Nobody to push him in a locker or steal his ears or literally tug on his tail.
"... No, actually..." It'd been... Peaceful, almost. "Lets not jinx it, though. Hopefully he stays gone today. He might be sick or something."

Joy crossed her fingers and held them to her heart, a little good luck charm and hope that maybe they'd be free of him, at least for today.

When they got to class, she quickly found her seat and wasted no time retrieving any supplies they may need for that period, along with a little pink book she seemed to have had her whole life in. All her assignments, important dates, phone numbers, colleges she was interested in, journal entries, all neatly organized and contained into that little planner.

Jeremy did have a calendar where he wrote down dates and assignments too, but instead of picking that up, he reached for his Nintendo Switch, cooping up in the seat next to her. Students trickled in, moreso when the cases actually started. And still there was an empty seat belonging to one Maxwell Jägerman. It felt almost too good to be true. The bullying always eased up when Max wasn't present.

The question still remained; where the hell was he?

As more students came, the whispering only grew louder. Rumors floated through the air of the classroom, little snippets of the conversation settling on listening ears.

'Did you hear the word?'

'Max Jägerman-'

'-The Waylon place, heard that it's haunted-'

'-And they filmed it! The whole thing is on the internet, it's insane-'

'Serves him right.'

'-wish I had been there to see it myself.'

Joy just couldn't take in any more. Something was going on, and she had to find out what it was. Usually, once she was in her seat, she stayed patiently there till the first bell to the last, listening intently to the lecture and diligently taking notes. But today was different than usual days, which meant she needed to be different too. The second there was a moment of independent study time, she tucked her pen behind her ear and her planner under her arm and stood up.

Her eyes scanned the room with her usual precision, searching for someone who was not currently engrossed in a conversation and wouldn't be too upset if she stole a couple of minutes of their time. She perked up when she spotted her target.

Richie Lipschitz- a socially awkward boy with an outward obsession with all things anime. He was doodling in the margins of his notebook when Joy saw him, looking notably more content than he normally did. He still was nervous, that just seemed to be his default, with his shoulders hunched in and his head down, but there was something noticeably more relaxed about him and maybe a certain giddiness he was only half able to contain. He was humming some song by one of those Japanese voice banks that Joy was only vaguely familiar with. She marched over to him with a sense of purpose in every stride.

"Hello there!" She wasn't mean-sounding, she was rather friendly actually, but there was still an intensity in her voice that screamed we need to talk.

He nearly jumped right out of his seat as he slammed his hands over his doodles. He looked up at her with wide eyes. "Oh- hi- yes, hello- do you... need something?"

Joy retrieved her pen and flipped open her notebook, preparing herself with a few clicks of the pen. "Yes, actually. Would you happen to know anything about what's going on with Max? What happened last night, where he is...?"

He waved his hands around. "K-keep your voice down! Listen, you have to promise not to get me in trouble if I tell you, okay?"

She nodded, going quiet at his request.

Richie let out a long sigh and tucked his hands under his arms "I was... actually there, so-"

"What?!"

Jeremy was entirely too engrossed in Animal Crossing to notice all of the whispers going on around him, intending to fully take advantage of the Max-less state of the school right now. He'd never been the most observant when his attention was somewhere else - too happy to slip into his own little world and ignore the one he was actually a part. of. It was peaceful, there.
Unfortunately, he was dragged out of this state when Joy stood up and patrolled across the classroom with a sense of purpose he was very used to seeing on her, so it didn't strike him as unusual. And even more unfortunately for himself, he didn't want to be alone in the classroom while she was-... Actually, what was she doing? Scaring a nerd half to death it seemed.

Jeremy sighed dramatically, attention still half on his Switch as he left his seat and trailed after his best and only friend.

"Joy, is there a reason you're harassing our classmate?" He asked, once he reached the table where both her and the other nerd - Richie, he was pretty sure his name was - were. Clearly, he had yet to grasp what this whole commotion was about, and also yet to actually put down his Switch.

Richie buried his face in his hands. This much attention being on him was... unusual.

"I'm not harassing him!" She put her hands on her hips and puffed out her cheeks a bit. She was on a mission here, and she would not waste time with any interruptions. "He's fine! Richie, you're fine, right?"

"You know my-?" He shook his head, "You're actually f-freaking me out a little-"

"Completely fine!" She interjected, then clicked her pen a few more times. "He knows what happened to Max, he was there."

That did get his attention, and he lowered his Switch, but didn't put it down entirely.

"Okay, okay... Okay. Okay. But, you're scaring him!" he started, knowing that Joy could come off as intense sometimes and not wanting to freak out this guy more than was already done, "At this point he's just gonna have an anxiety attack instead and then he'll have to go to the nurse and you won't get any answers at all!" He pointed out. But he did want answers too, so he moved in and took a seat on the part of the table where the seat had been empty, giving Joy a look like 'just give me a second!!! I'll fix this!!!'.

"Richie! Richard, Richaroo," His gaze left Joy and landed on Richie instead, who had uncovered his papers when he buried his face in his hands. He tilted his head at the doodles, "Is that Hatsune Miku?" A genuine inquiry as well as an attempt of leading him into a conversation without making him panic.

"Uh-" He nearly choked. For a second he looked like he was about to flip his notebook over to hide them, but he decided against it. "Yes? They're nothing special, I just wanted to practice some of my posing and she was a good model because I thought I could do something dynamic with her hair- and- never mind."

"They're very pretty!" He praised, "You've been drawing anime for a while, haven't you? I can tell. If Max were here, he'd probably steal it right out of your hands, just like with my Switch, right?" He huffed a little at the idea, of the memories of all the times Max had stolen his switch and held it over his head - the tall asshole...
"But, he's not. And the grapevine says you were involved." He tilted his head, giving him his very best puppy eyes, "Would you spin us the yarn?"

"It's kind of a long story, I'll try to make it short..." He tapped his fingers together. "Max beat up my Pete for going out with Stephanie Lauter- well, trying to go out with her, he didn't even make it all the way there. Then Grace Chasity, of all people, showed up and told us she had a plan for revenge, and we all just went along with it."

"Revenge?" Joy inquired, sounding a little concerned at this point

"W-we just wanted to prove he wasn't some all-powerful super Saiyan! We figured if we could scare him a little, it'd knock him down a few pegs! So we went to the Waylon place and set up some ghost stuff- I ran tech and got it all on film, we needed proof obviously, which I think is pret-ty cool." Richie had a bit of an odd way of speaking sometimes, often over-annunciating his t's and p's and separating certain syllables. "And by some miracle, it actually worked! He t-tried to fight us at first, but we got him so bad he went running from the old Waylon house like a baby! Haven't seen him since!"

Jeremy listened intently, a mischievous little grin growing on his face once he got a full grasp of what happened- or at least what he considered a full grasp on it.
"So you embarrassed the Jägerman and now he's afraid to come to school, it sounds like." Almost to a T the situation he'd put anyone he classified as a nerd in over the years.
"Nice." He nodded in approval.

"Did you post it anywhere?"

"I-it wasn't meant to get this big! Kinda... maybe it was, actually... It's not like he doesn't deserve it!"

She crossed her arms and let out a breath. Joy was a very justice-driven person, defending the act of the innocent and punishing the perpetrators was one of her core values. And Richie was right, Max absolutely deserved it, but even still... putting the humiliation of someone out into the public eye felt just a tad too far. She couldn't recall even Max doing something like that, his bullying remained within the confines of the students of Hatchetfield High. Anyone could watch that video, from his coach to his parents to future employers.

Then again, if she wanted to go into journalism one day, she'd need to get used to putting information out into the world that some people didn't want to be public. She nodded very seriously. "You're right. He does deserve it."
