  • homecoming night...

    and
Cole Brady was over the moon with excitement. He was going to homecoming with his bestest friend in the whole world, and he was going out with the cutest person in the whole world. It looked like everything was going up Cole for once. Although his hand did still happen to be in a cast from his misadventure getting locked out and accidentally breaking a window in his attempt to get back in. It wasn't his fault that he was so strong. He was just a little dude! He couldn't help it. Cole's father, Garrett, had brought him to pick up Colby, his date for the evening. Cole hadn't exactly passed his driving test yet. But who did on their first try? SpongeBob sure didn't. So it didn't bother him much, though Garrett was thoroughly disappointed with his son's lack of intelligence. But Cole was blissfully unaware of that.

Cole stood in front of Colby's door, knocking twice. They were supposed to match, but he wouldn't be offended if Colby had chosen something else to wear instead. His jaw dropped as she opened the door, revealing her stunning outfit. "All of the cute boys and girls and people who don't want to be a boy or a girl are going to fall in love with you!" His smile was contagious. "My dad's waiting in the car. I can't drive." His face fell at the admittance. "I hope you don't mind." He still hadn't told Garrett about his sexuality just yet. He knew that he wouldn't be accepting of him, even if he was still attracted to those identifying as female. So his budding relationship with Caspian would have to be had in secret for now. It wasn't that he was ashamed of Caspian, or his attraction to him, it was just that Cole was afraid of what his father might do or say.

"Come on, let's go!" Cole wasn't going to dwell on his problems now. He took Colby by the hand and rushed out to Garrett's running car. He wasn't too impressed with his son's choice of dates, that was for sure. It showed on Garrett's face as the teens got into the back of his car. But Cole either didn't see or didn't realize it. "Okay, Dad, we're ready to go." Cole buckled his seat belt, offering Colby help with hers as well. Garrett sped off, quickly arriving at the school. He didn't want to spend a whole lot of time with his embarrassing son and his friend. Cole offered a hand out to Colby to help her out of the car. He quickly linked his arm in hers as they made their way into the dance. "This is gonna be so fun!"

“Black and Red.” That’s what Leon said…. Lauren was heavy in thought as they observed their half of the closet. The whole thing needed to get re-organized once he got back. The blue Hailsham Academy blazers were an eyesore alone but mostly… This didn’t feel like home. They brushed off the homesickness that plagued him for the last month ang dug into the Target bins he salvaged to keep his other clothes organized in. As you could tell, the too-tall and too-lanky kid was not fond of the idea of Homecoming, especially when it was with strangers. If this was your senior year with people you knew, maybe you had the excuse to be excited but Lauren’s situation was… Lame.

They figured their tartan red pants and thrifted leather jacket would make his date happy. This wasn’t even a date but what else could Lauren AND Leon be doing this night? Maybe smash…bros? Lauren chuckled at his own joke as he headed to their “date”. Leon was cool. That’s what they gathered the moment they saw the student group chat. Twin flame shit blah blah blah.

Lauren was in no rush to get to the dance when it opened up. The theme was Hollywood - it fucking would be. He was casual in waltzing over to Leon’s room, texting oh so breezily, “I’m outside.” He wasn’t but the time to turn the corner and walk down the hall to reach it would give Leo the space to see the text and open the door before he knocked. Meanwhile, he scrolled through his socials quickly…

Hailsham homecoming get ready story…

Hailsham homecoming get ready story…

Hailsham homecoming get ready story…

Roosevelt High homecoming get ready story…

Now that was interesting. They didn’t know their old school had homecoming too. Tonight was a real compare and contrast night for Lauren it seemed as the story rolled by of his Los Angeles friends pre-gaming in their nice gowns and suits. Maybe he’ll try to make his own fun. The door to Leon and Cole’s room wasn’t really decorated. Even their nameplates on the door didn’t scream much interest in the situation, or that’s how Lauren saw it. He was about to knock when a text message was sent to him. A photo? They weighed for a second which was more important, decided the random text from his ex-girl was highest priority.

It was the moment he tapped the image to get a better look when the dorm room opened, making his jump in his vulnerable state and dropping his phone with the photo still on the screen.

SHIT!” His radiant laugh only echoed the sentiment that they were unbothered. Slow to even pick up the phone and it didn’t help that he looked at the faces and edges of his phone to make sure there wasn’t on the phone with the nude on full display. He didn't try to explain himself, just replying to the girl with a thumbs up emoji.

Hailsham was a shithole.

Not like the shitholes Biff was used to. There weren't any dead animals hanging around it, no bird-shit-covered cars or pieces of old junk. But it was full of rich people. Biff could not STAND rich people. As far as he was concerned, the wealthy were the scummy foundation that every shitty thing about the world was built on.

Well. That and heterosexual women.

Gross.

So Biff had a great idea. Like, such a good one.

Basically he took a giant milk jug that he bought at the local Gristedes. (New York City grocery store, apparently.) He drank ALL of it. (And then threw up.) Then he filled it with red acrylic paint and water. Shook it around a little bit so it got nice and loose. Shoved that in a backpack, which they did check at the front, but it didn't smell or look like alcohol so he got it back pretty easy. Probably looked like a psycho hauling a milk jug full of red goo though.

This was gonna be epic. He was gonna make women cry and men scream.

Someone was about to get Carrie'd. Not as big a deal as prom, maybe, but he'll laugh his ass off once all liquid receptacles get banned from prom and everyone has to find more creative ways to sneak their alcohol inside. These rich fuckers would learn a little thing or two about struggle.

But also he just kind of liked to make people miserable. Uncle Perry called it one of Biff's more charming personality traits. So there he was at the dance, standing in the corner with a giant backpack like he was carrying a bomb on an airplane. It was sort of a bomb. A liquid bomb. A bomb of RETRIBUTION or something. He didn't know, he didn't really care, he just wanted to fuck some shit up and see someone's face drop as their Louis Vuitton is turned into a Jackson Pollack.

I see this life like a swinging vine, swing my heart across the line

The days leading to Hannah Reilly's first ever Homecoming dance were painstakingly filled with frantic pinterest scrolling, practicing dance moves, and selecting clasmates to daydream about having a romantic moment with at said dance. Since it's announcement, the dance had clung to Hannah's brain like a leech and firmly refused to abandon ship. After all, this would be her first ever dance, as despite her perky demeanor the young girl often had trouble connecting with other kids without somehow slipping up and saying something awkward, and attending dances in her old middle school would just be a reminder of that painful fact. But here at Hailsham, things were different. For one, she actually had a friend. Two if you counted the dude who's nose she pierced on the first day of school, although admittedly she had a feeling that experience was more traumatizing than bonding for both parties.

Regardless, Hailsham was a fresh start for her. A chance to make friends, live out her main character moments, and dress up like a fancy rich kid for once. Nevertheless she was still a bit nervous about actually talking to new people, many of whom likely were already close with one another, many of whom far more older and more popular than she given her previous struggles, it didn't change the fact that Hannah wanted to at least try. Xiomara would likely get sick of Hannah clinging to her, which the young girl was most certainly trying to avoid. So even though it was tempting, Hannah knew she probably shouldn't solely hang out with Xio all night. The purple haired freshman probably had better things to do after all. Cool friends to meet, or maybe even a guy to be approached by.

As the young girl walked into the gym, she was instantly bombarded with the sensation of flashing lights, blaring music, and garishly glittered decorations. As she walked down the carpet, hordes of well-dressed people bustled around her; talking, laughing, kissing, and dancing their hearts out. Decadently cramping, Homecoming was enough to turn a hopeful energetic freshman into a deer in headlights with no way to know what to do, where to go, or who to speak to. All she could do was keep moving forward, and avoid being stepped on or sloshed by a passerby. Shit.

Though overwhelmed, Hannah wasn't prepared to quit just yet. Maybe she just needed a breather. Or to find somebody else who looked as lost and startled as she was to talk to. She hesitantly walked off towards one of the walls which a couple of chairs were seated directly against. Sitting down on one of them, she took a deep breath and began to collect her bearings. Perhaps she was a bit underprepared for what dances would be like. And definitely overestimated how easy it'd be to talk to strangers there. But that was fine! She just needed to.......regroup. Then she could try again in a few minutes after hyping herself up.

Before she could do so however, she spotted her roommate and best friend roaming the gym. Despite previous vows to do the contrary, Hannah was utterly incapable of seeing Xio and NOT attempting to spend time with her. She knew it was selfish, and she should let Xio have this night to herself instead of having to hang around the scholarship kid, but surely greeting her wouldn't be that big of a deal? Hannah got up, waving frantically at the purple haired girl. "Xio! Over here! You look great!" She called out excitedly, walking towards her friend to glomp her in a hug.

It had been a full three hours since they'd last seen each other after all.

Gregor stood at the entrance of the school rubbing his now brused knuckles. Training was cut short today and now he had to interact with the other students. Dreading the side glances and fear from his fellow peers he swallowed any down and put up his stone wall persona.

Opening the doors the booming music shook his core as he made his way to the snack table. "This sucks.... I had to be the first one here." He cursed under his breath wishing his sisters had joined him. Unfortunately his twin selia beleaved in "fashionably late"

A quick swig of watered down punch and eyed the other students getting his well deserved cautious looks. He dared not to go dance. He'll he never knew how to dance like others. Now if it was his home music he would be in the spot light. The school was a place away from his father's judgemental gaze. A place he could take a slow breath to calm himself. But not now.

It's only been a few minutes and he had found himself sitting alone, he hated his felling. He just wanted someone to talk to, but his "masculinity" wouldn't allow him to show his felling. That was beaten out of him by his father. "Dont act feminine" those words rang thru his head as he just sat there with his resting bitch face
