PROLOGUE

An army of roughly six-hundred men surrounded the Town of Auroria in western Albion, south of the Great Forest. They have been around the city for almost two days now, and the gates were locked in the interest of protecting the citizens.

Several, flying imps, familiars, floated in the sky and heralded a message from the army outside. Their fiendish voices were carried by the wind, as they declared: "Citizens of Auroria! King Turenval's faithful servant, Lord Verraketh demands that you surrender, open the gates, and fall under his rule!"

The nobleman who owned the city, Marquis Robert Black, had no intention of following these demands. He belonged to the noble faction of Albion, that directly opposed the royal faction that followed the king in the civil war. As such, he set down archers on the wall of the city to watch the enemy's forces who had the city surrounded from every direction, waiting for a chance to strike.

However, they had over four-hundred infantrymen, a hundred archers, plus a few dozen spellcasters and a few dozen trained knights; veterans among veterans. Auroria's meager force consisting of a few dozen town guards and only a few archers among them. They didn't have experienced veterans and the number of spellcasters was pathetic in comparison. Marquis Black sent out a telepathic message, hoping someone on their side would intercept it.

They had no place fighting. All they could hope to do was lock the gates and wait this out, waiting for the reinforcements that would surely come soon.

But they didn't. Perhaps the enemy intercepted the message, or there was no army in range to hear them, or there were other complications. But five days after the message had been sent, the city was very slowly going short on food and water, and problems were arising in other places.

Marquis Black had to address this, and as such, he decided to get some hired help from his own pocket. He put posters around - 'Looking for adventurers to deal with the enemy commander. Rewards. Contact the city guard captain.'

Adventurers were versatile fighting machines that killed monsters and took care of various tasks in exchange for a reward. This was better than nothing, or so thought Marquis Black. They weren't powerful enough to fight an army, but if they could take out the commander, then the enemy would have to flee. One day after that, he gathered the volunteers in his keep to explain the plan to them.

He'd have one of his spellcasters scry the location of Verraketh, and then, the adventurers would be teleported as close as possible, with the task of eliminating him.

There would be three teams of such adventurers, and this is the story of one of them.

Team One was supposed to meet each other and one of Marquis Black's mages, a young graduate adept by the name of Aunran. It was easy to recognize him from the red robes outlined with yellow embellishment.

Hermione "Hermy" Puckette
andi_concept_sketches_by_crescentvenus-d5io4bj.jpg
The inn had a familiar buzz to it, people either drowning their sorrows or celebrating some meaningless event. Though given the current events, it was most likely the former. Things around here had definitely gone downhill and Hermione knew that that; though at this point in time she could not hold a thought in her head. The Satyr sat in one of the chairs with a table, her hooves spread out in front of her given she could not actually put them under the chair; having hocks and all. Well... she could tuck her legs in under the chair but she didn't care. Her legs were coated with a thick layer of brown fur and were totally exposed; all the Satyr had in terms of clothing was a grubby grey poncho. Behind her, in the gap in the back of the chair, her ebony black horse tail swung lazily. The tail was the only part of the unkempt Satyr that could be considered clean. She was at least vaguely aware of the fact that nobody wanted to be smacked by a dirty tail.

Hermione took another long drink out of her tankard before raising it to signal to the man behind the bar for another one before putting the empty tankard on the table, now making a trio of them. With a slight hiccup; she looked outside. Where was this guy she was to meet? Next to her chair was her quiver full of arrows and her bow. While she waited for her drink, she took her bow as well as her small knife; carving in a vine-like pattern on it. The bow was covered in it. It was her one real entertainment before she got her ale. The unkempt Satyr looked around again, then noticing a young man in his red robes; exactly who she was supposed to meet along with the others.

"Oh," she made a noise as the barman put her tankard on the table, "I'll pu-" she hiccuped, "-put it on my tab." she said before she got up and headed towards the man. Her hooves clopped against the wooden floors in an irregular pattern. If the pub could stop moving around that would be great. She sat down near the man, still with her tankard.

"A'right mate?" she asked, "Hate bein' the first to these." She said before sipping out of it. Putting it on the table, she scratched at her head. Her large ears flicked back and forth, her one gold earring jingling merrily as it moved. She just hoped more would show up soon. To distract herself she continued widdling patterns into her bow.

Pausing, she took up the tankard again before turning to the young man, "Uff... My manners don't exist. Name's Hermione though-" she hiccuped again, "-Though fr-friends call me Hermy... if I had 'em." she let out a short laugh before knocking back the ale. That joke never got old.

Callandar "Callie" Stormbringer

Callie entered the tavern and immediately brightened. She liked taverns. It was hard to say why. They were bright, which she didn't like, and noisy, which she didn't like either. They were also the sole source of ale, which she'd come to like a great deal. If she were honest with herself, which she rarely was, the company could be enjoyable as well. Sometimes. If she felt charitable.

Given she was a dragon, that was virtually never.

The tall white-haired woman with golden eyes drifted slowly through the common room, ignoring several requests for company and frowning slightly as she looked for the person she'd been directed to meet with by the Captain of the City Guard. Wreathed in gray travel robes, Callie was aware she looked every inch the enigmatic sorceress, which suited her because it meant fewer interruptions. The first month after she'd escaped from the castle had been awful for receiving unsolicited attention. These robes helped, as they provided the impression that she was deadly. An altogether accurate impression, of course.

Finally, those golden eyes widened slightly as she spotted the red robes with yellow embroidery. Excellent. The young woman stepped purposefully to the table with the wizard and promptly shoved one of the city's posters in the man's face.

'Looking for adventurers to deal with the enemy commander. Rewards. Contact the city guard captain.'

Then she sniffed, and warily eyed the satyr at the table. Not quite what she'd expected, though the patterns the woman carved into her bow were pretty enough. Good artistry could increase the value of a thing. And dragons valued valuable things the way plants valued sunlight. Glancing between the satyr and the mage, she found a place to sit.

"I'm Callandar Stormbringer." The introduction rolled off her tongue without thought and the woman promptly sighed. "Or at least I was. Call me Callie." She eyed the satyr once more, lifting an inquisitive eyebrow. What a thing. Humans not only had these silly little fur stripes over their eyes but raising one indicated a question! It was ridiculous but at least she was learning how to emote like they did.

Ayasha
Location: Drunken Dragon's Inn
Interaction/s: Hermione ( Rumble Fish Rumble Fish ), Callandar ( Epiphany Epiphany )

As expected from Ayasha, gfrom the very moment she pushed open those wooden doors, she already caught the attention of several people. And as she walked further in, her fragrance and the way she moved only attracted the attention of others. It wasn't long enough until more than half of the men in the tavern were drooling as they gazed upon her from afar. Hell, even the women were trying to keep themselves from squealing at her presence.

Granted, these were just your common folk gathered in a tavern, but this alone exerted the raw capabilities of her allure. But she wasn't here to test out how enticing she is, nor how effective her appeal is to the people of this town - she was actually here for something else.

Somewhere in this tavern, was a table where certain people were to gather and meet a young mage in red robes for some serious business.

Ayasha wasn't here for that either.

On one of the seats on that specific table, was a satyr with some rather unkempt fur. The fox girl smirked, and approached this satyr from behind, placing her hands on her shoulder gently. A rather alluring fragrade exuded from Ayasha as she moved closer, almost resting her head on top of the satyr's left shoulder. What followed next was a voice that would make most stain their trousers, not in fear, but in excitement.

"Hermy...what a cute name.", she uttered.

Kasumi Yasashīha

It had felt as if years had passed since Kasumi had 'left' from her home. She had come to visit many places and taken part in many jobs in which her blade was a useful tool for others. In a word such as the one they inhabit, it wasn't in the least bit common for the use of force to be required if you didn't want to have your things taken from you, including your very life. If there was one thing the bit of a self associated 'screw up' like her could do it was at least the ability to fight to some degree. Even one such as her who would be looked upon by others held some iota of pride in her ability with the sword. Even with her duties discarded it didn't stop her for her constant desire to progress and become stronger. It only made her wonder if she hadn't been born into a family such as the one she was if she would be back home serving as an honorable samurai without a single eye bothering to linger on her for more then her skill with the blade.

Such a worry wasn't something that held much weight when it came to the situation she found herself in. What had been a simple stop at the town of Auroria had all but gone downhill so fast. It had all started upon her arrival deciding to stay in the town rather then setting off that very day to try and push it to the next town over. As devote as she was to the sword, Kasumi's lighthearted personality was far to susceptible to becoming distracted by other things. It had been so easy to convince herself to hang around the town at least for a day to relax and enjoy a little downtime. Even with that plan she had spent the night without too much trouble. The day after she would of been fine to simply leave, but that was when she caught the sight of a group gambling in the back of the tavern. It only set off her gambling addiction as she found herself entangled in some 'harmless' gambling....

...down all the cash she had raked up from her last job later she found herself poor once again and stranded. It hadn't been the first time she had managed to aquire wealth only to gamble it all away. What always started off as 'just one game' always ended with her several hours later in abject poverty. Someone who tended to have poor luck like herself knew full well it was never a good idea, yet she always couldn't resist it. The sunk cost fallacy along with the excitement of gambling always got Kasumi. It wasn't long after she found herself stranded the seige started and any hope of even hitching a ride with some kind stranger all but evaporated away. She was trapped in a city under constant threat with virtually nothing to subsist on. It was that very fact that had forced her into taking part in this job to take out the commander, a rather risky mission but one she had no choice to do. It was her goal to make a good expression of herself and show how capable she was, head out to take out the command and then be on her way back out into the world.

...unfortunately bad luck or perhaps her simple clutzy nature was having none of that...

Kasumi approached the table seeing the red robed man whom they were suppose to meet with, a rather regular looking woman sitting there along with.... a goat person... and a fox person? She shook her head seemingly a bit distracted not quite expecting to see such odd characters. That moment of complacency was all it took for her to carelessly find herself stepping forward, the edge of her shoe catching upon a barely lifted up floorboard. The blonde's eyes opened wide as she suddenly came stumbling forward, quickly losing her balance. Her pink kimono flowed elegantly as her careless tumble happened in slow motion to the girl. She slipped forward, grabbing a chair at the table only for it to slam roughly into the table causing it to violently shake sending drinks spilling and any objects on it to shuffle about or fall over. Kasumi fell forward, landing on her side with only one side escaping her lips as she made her impact.

"KYAH!" The cry escaped as it all ended quickly, the blonde's body laying on the ground her kimono disheveled. The flower in her hair had managed to get knocked out of place making her normally rather well upkept appearance to all but fall apart even further. She stumbled to her feet, desperate to quickly undo the disaster that was her entrance. Her kimono hung low on her body, teasing much more of her 'assets' as she quickly tugged it up to cover herself up. While Ayasha seemed to know how to allure others with her body and very presence it seemed as if her clutzy nature was all but trying to detract from her own. She blushed a bit shaking her head quickly lifting her hand up to fix her hair ornament before working to refix her kimono more fully.

"AH! S..s...sorry! H... hi! My name is Yasashīha Kasumi It is a pleasure to meet all you fine... people!" She spoke fumbling at the right words to usenot sure if it was proper what to say to the Satyr or the fox as she kept her head turned down in a rather long bow in hopes of somewhat recovering any once of respect they might be able to give her.

Aunran
Drunken Dragon's Inn

The mage was taken aback by the unexpected presentation of one of the adventurers. He could tell from the odor she hadn't bathed for long, and from the demeanor, he could tell her longing for alcohol was even bigger than her repulsion by hygiene. "Adept Aunran," he said, trying to hide his chagrin. "Are you sure you're even in a state to fight?"

Following his question, a pair of other women approached. Both looked exotic in their own ways. Aunran introduced himself to them, as well, and tried to ignore the kitsune woman that flirted with the unkempt satyr by averting his gaze and staring at the entrance. He sighed.

But then, his eyes glistened and he managed to gather a newfound determination as a beautiful swordswoman entered the inn!

And then, she tripped, spilling everyone's drinks onto the floor and making a royal mess. Aunran's face twisted into a troubled grimace, and he started having second thoughts about this assignment. He sighed, placing his fingers on his nose's bridge and massaging it with closed eyes.

Verxi
Drunken Dragon's Inn

monk_1.jpg
The door of the inn opened quietly as a young man with a staff entered. His apparel was foreign; he wore sandals instead of boots, wore no shirt, and had a pair of goggles on his neck, as well as a long white cloth. He wore brown leathery shorts with a belt and the metallic symbol of some beast, while his forearms were girdled in cloth strips. He also had some kind of puffy white fluff that looked like a faux tail hanging from his belt, probably for cultural reasons.

His toned physique evoked some gasps of envy from the nearby men. Verxi took in those gasps with a smirk, like a peacock showing off its feathers. He then walked forward with a confident strut and prudish grace. With swagger.

No, wait. This is wrong!

Mid-walk, he stopped in shock, took a deep breath, and his smile turned into a serious look. He walked forward again, his previous swagger replaced with indifference and he reached the table, where he introduced himself plainly. "I'm Verxi."

His eyes pivoted to his to-be-companions. A smelly satyr girl - yuck. A kitsune who seemed to be interested in the previous person - what were visitors from the east doing here? And finally, a white-haired woman with a harsh disposition - she reminded him of a dragon. They were all beautiful women, except for the satyr whose smell and apparent alcoholism ruined any charm she could've had in his eyes.

Then there was Aunran. The adept spellcaster who would be teleporting them into combat once it was time for the operation to begin. Verxi had a good feeling about this team, even despite his usual pessimistic doubts. A small part of him told him nothing could ruin this.

Perhaps as if on call, someone else arrived. Her clothing was similar to the kitsune. What were so many people from the east doing here? He felt his own uniqueness squashed, as every patron in the bar now paid attention to the girl. But wait, there's more.

And then she tripped on a loose floorboard, overturning the table and spilling drinks everywhere. A few drops of alcohol caught Verxi across the cheek, along with some shards of broken glass and a pool of beer spreading underneath his feet, but he didn't step back.

Verxi tightened his lips into a straight line, trying not to laugh, even though the rumble of laughter that rippled through the bar made it hard.

Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Fight the urge. Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Don't laugh. A drop of sweat went down his forehead and his brows fell slightly in a half-squint.

DON'T LAUGH... DON'T... LAUGH... DON'T... His lips quivered, but he managed to narrowly quell the desire to laugh within himself by reminding himself how well the monks treated him - they never laughed at him, no matter how much he would embarrass or humiliate himself by doing things wrong during training or other things. Due to this, he found some empathy for the girl.

Besides, if his sensei was here and saw him having this kind of problem, he'd have already received a strike from a heavy staff to the top of the head. In fact, not receiving this kind of punishment felt unnatural at this point, so much so that Verxi closed his eyes for a split-second, almost on instinct, expecting someone would punish him.

But when he saw the punishment didn't come, he calmed down again and released some air from his mouth to make sure he wouldn't snort mid-sentence. "My name is Verxi," he introduced himself to Kasumi.

(Now, someone, please do something funny so he can have a fit of laughter of the century.)

The current state of affairs was not only bad for Scarlet's business, but her life too. She had been too confident that she would have been able to sneak around the city and loot some valuables from the wealthy who had fled the city of Auroria. Unfortunately she hadn't gotten reliable information on when the city gates were going to be closed, so now she was stuck here with everyone else with Verraketh knocking at the city gates. So here she was on the losing side of a battle hold a poster from the Marquis Black himself offering rewards to those stupid enough to deal with the enemy.

Now, she wasn't insane. Going through an army encampment to assassinate their leader? It was a fool's errand, but it was also a way out of the city. However, the problem was being teleported to the enemy. She idly flipped her coin in the air and caught it, over and over she did this as she pondered. If she stayed here, she'd be royally fucked. Maybe she could evade being slaughtered and get out of the city if it fell to the army, but maybe she wouldn't.

So here Scarlet was, deciding to get out of the city by taking a chance with the adventurer's being sent out to face off against Verraketh. It was better than sitting around being bored and waiting for a chance to escape the city. She entered the Drunken Dragon's Inn, still flipping and catching her coin as she approached the barkeep before pocketing it. She smirked at the goat girl who appeared to already be well sloshed on drink. An easy target to pick pocket, but then again by the odor wafting from the creature, she didn't want to touch something that hadn't bathed and could have fleas.

More strangers entered the tavern, whose business was most likely the same one she was on. A white-haired woman who didn't hesitate to introduce herself to the drunken goat, a fox-eared girl, some clumsy little girl, and some guy with a staff. They all were at the same table with the red robed man they were supposed to meet. Except for Scarlet, she had opted to wait and see who showed up before doing anything else.

She took the drink from the barkeep, paying the man and then casually walked over to the table and sat down with the rest. No reason to not enough a drink while things were explained. And with this lot, they might not pay enough attention to her to notice if she decides to vanish. At least at the right moment should she sneak away.

"Well, since everyone else has introduce themselves, I might as well do so myself. Just call me Torch," she gave them her alias rather than her real name. She doubted they've even manage to remember it. She turned to the Adept, the man who was sending this lot to their deaths, "Based on your expression, you have about as much faith as I do. By the way, red is not a flattering color on you and it makes you stick out like a sore thumb, but hey, at least the two over there with the big breasts should be a good distraction from you."[/div][/div][/div]

Callandar "Callie" Stormbringer

Drawn up in her robes, the girl with the golden eyes narrowed them as the Kitsune appeared over her shoulder to lounge against the nearby satyr. She hadn't seen many of either species in centuries so she shrugged slightly and studied the pair as she waited for more to arrive. The young female warrior who entered also had a becoming outfit, if outfits became young female warriors. Certainly that outfit had its disadvantages, judging by the way it slipped when the human tripped. The girl's embarrassment was obvious and Callie found herself smiling at the panicked warrior's hasty introduction.

The half naked man in sandals who approached them looked profoundly distracted by that warrior's graceless tumble. For a moment, Callie wondered if he was going to have a stroke on the spot. But at least he managed to introduce himself. The arrival of a redheaded human woman was welcome by that point, for she managed to reach the table with her drink and then talk without making a spectacle of herself. Her comments brought another smile to the white-haired woman's face and, on this rare occasion, there was no mockery in it.

With a single sweep of a finger, she summed each of her new companions up with a simple statement. "Drunk. In season. Terminally clumsy. Thinks he's at the beach." Her finger stopped on Scarlet and Callie didn't say anything to her, but instead turned to the red-robed mage. "If they all die, do we get their shares of the treasure?" Callie asked Aunran in a hopeful tone.

Lumu Muna
cute moth.jpg
Today was not a good day for Lumu. The humans seemed to be having a rivalry with her and a bunch of others all caught in the cross-fire, unable to leave, and while it was a good opportunity for her to try and find out more about alchemy and potions to help further her progress on that cursed regeneration potion she had spent so much time working on, it was tough as all the books she'd found had been of no use at all! It was painful, depressing and made her just want to curl up and cry, but for the moment, she'd elected to entered what had been shown to her as a "Bar" to see what all the fuss was about, what with so many others heading into it on a relatively frequent basis while they were all trapped here.

Her initial thoughts on the place was that it was probably some sort of healing centre, what with so many people going in and out of it in a wartime, yet the only flaw with that thought was that nobody appeared to be injured, aside from a stray few, of course. A common theme of the place was that everyone held some strange looking liquid, like an off-colour potion, similar to some of her first failed attempts of potions she'd tried, yet many of the people in the building seemed rather content with the large glasses of the stuff.

The small moth girl meandered her way up to the counter that held a few people next to it and poked her gentle red eyes and antenna up over the streak of wood to look at a rather gruff looking human that glared at her with a crooked eye as though he was expecting her to say something. "Are you an alchemist?" She asked, hoping to get several of her questions answered in one go, to which the barkeep merely stared at her with an almost heart-stopping level of intensity after having is conversation so rudely interrupted by this little fluffy creature, before bursting into a light-hearted chuckle. "Ay, I s'pose you could call me somefin' like that." the man simply smiled. The moth girl noted this with some level of difficulty, finding his manner of language difficult, and clambered up onto one of the seats to reach eye-level, before asking for the same drink that everyone else seemed to be holding, which was swiftly delivered to her small hands before outstretching his hand, expecting a coin, yet receiving a handshake instead by the strange little fluffy creature, bursting into jovial laughter as the four-armed insect-girl shook his arm and watched him with beady eyes.

Lumu made a mental note to ask him some questions later, holding the glass of a rather foul-smelling liquid and pondering why it smelt so strong. It was beginning to make her antenna quiver. She turned to look at those around her, one being a goat-human that smelled very strongly of the drink she now held, the others being humans, excluding one that appeared to be a rather strange looking human with pokey hair at the top and a strange scent around her that was rather relieving amongst the smell of what she assumed was some incredibly off health potion that these people liked to drink, the same smell that was almost making her want to reach up and cover the two twitching feathers atop her head. "I am Lumu, does anyone know alchemy?" she asked nobody in particular to the group she had shuffled her way into, cutely twisting her head around several times expectantly, hoping to find anyone that could help her considering the strangely-spoken man appeared to be rather occupied with all the business he was getting.

Verxi
Drunken Dragon's Inn

monk_1.jpg

Verxi's eyes, sensing a challenge, looked at the woman known as Callandar. Verxi clicked his tongue. Damn, she gets on my nerves! Who does this bitch think she is?! Ah, how I'd love to pack her in the face with a Flurry of Blows, but Vendi-Ka teachings forbid using one's power this way.

After all, Verxi was the 'perfect cultivator who would achieve enlightenment at the young age of fifty years old,' or so surmised his sensei.

Verxi's sensei, whose name was forgotten to time and was simply known as 'the Ancient One' was older than the trees around him, and there was material evidence, namely the fact that the Ancient One's beard and hair, in a non-hyperbole way, intertwined with the nearby roots and his body was partially sunken into stone, while the once-white robe, now yellowed, was coated in a thick moss. Whenever the old man had the need to do something, he would simply use ki energy to generate an avatar of golden light.

His gaze was piercing, like a thousand sages looking with a discerning gaze of a thousand insights, so his opinion 'this boy has a talent like none other' held much weight to the monks around him. That was the only reason they had given him and his mother such a lucrative deal.

Still. At the beach? How ignorant of that woman! This was an ancient traditional form of training one's body by exposing it to the unforgiving whims of mother nature! Anger almost wrinkled at his face - almost. He'd do as his master taught him, and instead of being provoked, he'd pretend he didn't hear the profane words of that disgusting woman.

... At least, that's what he would've done if he was mentally cordoned from outside influence. Verxi was far too materialistic to let go of his worldly emotions and things like pride, which was his weakness and the only reason he couldn't achieve his full potential. His sensei told him he'd overcome this wall one day, but honestly? Verxi felt doubt.

But that didn't matter right now.

Verxi frowned deeply and riposted sharply, "This is a form of training, you ignorant saphead! By exposing my body to the elements, I harden it against them! Not that someone weak, lowly and uninterested in the path of enlightenment like you would understand!" He pointed an accusatory finger at her, then continued, "There is no greater quest than enlightenment! Once I reach it, I'll be an astral bodhisattva the likes of which--"

Aunran cut in, massaging the temples of his head and trying to delete the existence of these people from his mind. "Please, stop arguing. It's giving me a headache."

Verxi's face turned bitter at the statement, but he complied.

Then, a moth girl asked them if anyone knew alchemy. Verxi thought and remembered that his sensei knew everything... literally. The old man had directly tethered his mind to the Akashic Records. If he needed knowledge, he would simply connect with them and draw on any fact or information in the universe he wished to. It was sure he had perfect mastery of alchemy. Verxi also recalled that some monks at the monastery were studying it, along with a special branch of it called 'celestial alchemy,' though Verxi knew not how it differed from its regular counterpart, and neither did he know how to perform it. The monks attested that celestial alchemy was still too difficult for someone on his level.

"My master knows, and a few fellow monks," he said, deciding that explanation, albeit vague, would be true. His face remained perfectly indifferent, and he used the statement to draw his attention away from the annoying ignorant woman.

Hermione paid little attention to anything going on around her, simply opting to drink from the tankard. After a particularly long gulp of beer (or was it ale?) she let out a loud, drawn out belch before she was aware of the fox-like lady who had appeared behind her and put her hand on her shoulder. The tone of the woman's voice made Hermione shudder and her ears to flick upward. She turned to look at the woman with a mixture of confusion and... well arousal. Her shaggy eyebrows went up.
"Thanks. You got a name, beautiful?" This was new. Normally Hermy was the one to approach people like this; never the other way around. Surely something was up or she had some other motive. It couldn't be real, right? Still... might as well enjoy it while she could.

She then turned her attention to the man, Aunran who then questioned her state to fight. It was not the first time she had her skills questioned. She let out a snort and stood up unsteadily, taking her bow and an arrow from her quiver. She looked for a potential target. Not a person; for obvious reasons. She already had a bounty on her head for that one time she broke a dwarf's glass eye with an arrow.

"See... see that man with the tankard?" She clumsily pointed to said man who was sitting at the other end of the pub with the tankard, "Imma hit-" she hiccuped, "that and it's going on the wall." she bragged before taking aim. She was still swaying on the spot but she just managed to steady herself before firing. The arrow flew with a whistle through the pub, over people's head, just hitting the edge of the tankard and nailing it to the wall. It caused a look of shock to come across most people... but upon realising nobody had been hit, they all seemed to relax. The only person who seemed mad was the owner of the tankard. He gave Hermy a look which could only be described as "I'll kill you while you sleep"

"Wooh!" Hermy threw her shaggy head back in a long and somewhat dramatic manner before sitting back down, just in time for the clumsy Samari girl who had just come in to shriek and fall onto the table. Hermy flinched back a little as liquids of all sorts flew everywhere. She had just managed to save her tankard before it got ruined. The Satyr simply watched before going to take another drink.

Before she could bring it to her lips, she overheard Callie speaking about them all dying and she and Verxi sharing the "treasure". She rolled her eyes and opened her mouth before the man jumped in before her, giving her a verbal beating.

"Heh... fun seeing it happen to someone else than me for once." She chuckled, "Oi! Another one!" She then called to the bartender, only getting an "A'ight!" as a response. She simply sat back and watched everything happen.

She blinked a few times as she then noticed another figure join them at the table. She seemed very human but also seemed to have moth like qualities; complete with fluffy looking feelers on the top of her head. Hermione tilted her head in confusion as she questioned about alchemy. It made her think back to her childhood. She knew an elf who practised alchemy. He tried to make some kind of potion to remove the fur from her body with... interesting results. Results she would rather forget about.

Taking her new tankard, she looked at the younger girl, "Whatchu want with alchemy? Last instant I heard of was of-" she let out a belch while talking, "-a guy trying to increase his... sausage. But he forgot how negatives work. Funniest shit I'd seen in a while. It was like a chipolata." she chuckled before turning back to the ale. Whatever happens happens.

Kasumi Yasashīha

The embarrassing glow lingering upon her cheeks weren't able to completely dissipate despite her attempt at a fumbling hurried introduction. As much as she would like to pretend her very ungraceful fall hadn't happened it was a near impossible task to really undo what she had managed to do in the eyes of others. The laughter only helped to keep that rosy tint lingering as she did her best to downplay it focusing instead of the group before her and the idea of making introductions. It wasn't all that shocking really when it came to Kasumi to blunder her first impressions with someone, it seemed as if her klutzy side always found a way to come out when it came to making first impressions with people. It was no wonder why so many doubted her swordsmanship starting off on such a bad note when she first met others.

Her head turned to face Verxi as he seemed to focus particularly upon her with his introduction. She couldn't help but feel his expression was a bit... strange... though she wasn't really quite able to put a finger on why. She shrugged off the thought, simply smiling warmly as she bowed her head lightly in response to him not worrying any more about it.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Verxi!" She responsed with her voice being a bit less shaky feeling as if she had somehow overcome her fumbling introduction as if had somehow already been forgotten. She was never the type who was good at reading people, particularly when it came to them trying to hide something, even if poorly. It was perhaps a bit ironic given her talent in being able to read her opponents in combat to a decent extent. at the very least he managed to distract her from some further embarrassment from the uncontrollable smile that had planted itself upon Callie's lips from her blundering introduction along with the look of sheer disappointment of the mage who they were there to meet with. She was quickly returned to reality as the white haired woman spoke out blurting out random comments that seemed like gibberish to her until the word clumsy reached her ear reminding her of her own naivety thinking her little fall could so easily be forgotten so quickly.

Before she could fumble together a response the shirtless monk seemed to have a retort quickly prepared for the woman. A look of concern was quick to fill her face as she was noticably uncomfortable with his words as it seemed as if trouble was already brewing between the two. She looked back and forth between the two as some mild form of panic began to fill her. The last thing she wanted was for people in the group to start fighting. As clutzy as she might of shown herself to be, she wasn't some idiot. She knew how dangerous a lack of coordination could be for a group attempting to do a job together. Luckily the mage had been quick to speak up seemingly stopping the argument before it could truly begin. A soft sigh of relief escaped her lips as the blonde couldn't help but pick her up up in surprise.

Alchemy? She pondered the question a bit until her eyes finally caught side of Lumu suddenly shifting her thoughts from alchemy to her curiosity seeing a... moth lady? While the Satyr ha been rather puzzling for her to see, she easily took the cake being far more 'alien' to her then anything else. She stared upon her quietly, taking a few seconds to realize she was simply gawking at the girl before shaking her head looking down in embarrassment for simply staring so rudely at her. She shifted her focus back to her question... though she truthfully hadn't the slightest clue to even beign with when it came to alchemy. Her family was so devote to the martial side of combat, things like 'magic' were only a distraction from the importance of learning the sword. Perhaps it was best if she didn't risk getting herself in more trouble and just kept quiet not trying to inject herself into a conversation about alchemy she hadn't the slightest clue about?

Her eyes picked up, glancing to Scarlet as she pondered speaking to her. She parted her lips to speak before closing them quickly deciding against it. with the Satyr and the fox girl in some sort of 'tals' it quickly dismissed the idea of trying to spark conversation with them for now. She couldn't help but feel like it was probably best for her to be quiet for now at least until she found part of a conversation she felt she could adequately chime into. She couldn't help but feel as if she tried to push further conversation right now it would only keep the fact she had taken a rather sloppy fall that much more prevalent in everyone's mind. She wanted to at least try and improve the bad impression she started off with.

As time passed by, more and more intriguing characters arrived at the scene. First was this female warrior, whose clumsiness seem to have attracted a few eyes towards her. Followed by some exhibitionist who, quite obviously, seems to think having a fake tail stuck up his rear is amusing. Then a shady woman, with the stereotypical rogue look.

"Now, now, Miss...Torch.", Ayasha responded to her snarky comment, still clinging on the satyr. "There's no need to drive your frustration about your lesser breasts towards ours."

The woman named Callandar, who not only emanated some form of inhuman presence, but also had these rather unnaturally golden eyes, decided to bring her own form of view on the group's steadily growing number - that included pointing at Ayasha and dubbing her 'in season', to which she responded with a flirty wink at Callandar.

Then came Lumu, who seemed to be looking for practitioners of alchemy.

Ayasha would have answered that, if not for her realizing that Hermione had asked her a question. Ignoring her would seem rather rude now, wouldn't it? And Ayasha isn't gonna let that happen, after all, she had sights on this satyr for about a few days now.

Ayasha grabbed a seat, and plopped down beside Hermione. Then, she leaned in closer. Like really close.

"Ayasha.", the words came out of her mouth, along with a fragrance that could easily pass of as an aphrodisiac for the weak-willed.

Scarlet drank her beverage the the golden-eyes woman pointed at the member of the party seated at the table, giving her quick opinions of them. However, when the slender finger halted on Scarlet and no comment was said, but a question towards the red-robbed man, she smirked and gave the woman a wink. "Generally any split rewards work that way. We would after all have to do their work as well as our own, so it would be more than fair to take their share should they fail." She leaned back comfortably in the chair just as some bug looking bipedal create approached the table who randomly asked if they new alchemy, but not before the wolf-tailed shirtless boy was set off by the white-haired woman.

He was way more bothered by the comment than she would have expected of him, maybe she had read him wrong on her first impression. He had struggled to keep his composure when the clumsy girl had fallen over, but this snapped him? Interesting. He was more sensitive about perceived insults to himself than she would have expected of someone walking around exposed like he was.

"Hardened against the elements, but what about a sword?" she asked him under her breath just as the Adept asked them to stop. She'd have to tease this little pressure point about enlightenment a bit later, if he lived long enough and if she bumped into him again after she got the hell out of the city. She wouldn't hold her breath until that would happen, but she'd stash the information away, hoping it'd be useful to her in some manner somewhere, even if she had to use it as a false persona in the next town.

While this was going on, the drunk goat took up a challenge to prove her ability and stood up - unsteadily - and shot an arrow to pin a tankard to a wall. Impressive, but there was a chance it was just luck. Though, if the goat was never sober, was it luck? As Scarlet half-listened to that conversation, she heard the goat answer the moth and let out a light laugh as a a story about a failed 'enhancement' went wrong. Men, always amusing in such things.

The clumsy girl was less talkative than the rest, at least right now, and based on the color of the girl's cheeks was probably embarrassed still over her trip. Not Scarlet's problem, at least unless the girl fell over and took Scarlet with her. She'd have to maintain a few feet between them should that happen, maybe a couple extra because of possible other factors, such as out of the reach of the girl's sword.

Scarlet's attention was brought back to the fox-eared girl who spoke her alias, trying to hint that Scarlet was bothered by her own breasts compared to the woman's. This earned a hearty laugh that brought tears to Scarlet's eyes. "Oh no, there isn't any frustration. It was just a fact based on the open mouthed stares of the other patrons who are enjoying their view. I can appreciate a female figure myself, but I prefer smaller breasts than yours. I have to ask, don't they ever get in the way?"[/div][/div][/div]

Lumu Muna
cute moth.jpg
Conversations went on as before, as though her question had been lost in the cacophony of voices that was this strange indoor place, however, two answers showed their faces to her, one of which was rather promising, the other she didn't quite understand. The more promising answer came first, and although the ill-equipped man seemed a little hot under the collar that did not exist, she turned to him anyway, shuffling and squeezing her way past a rather hairy being that smelled very reminiscent of the drink she held, what appeared to be a shy samurai, the woman that appeared to have insulted the promising one that had answered her, a red-haired woman that seemed to be having some sort of insulting contest with the large-breasted woman, and the large-breasted woman herself with pokey things atop her head that where assumed to be antennae like her own, which also seemed to be releasing some strange aroma that was making it difficult to concentrate. "Excuse me, can you take me to him?" She asked bluntly with wide eyes at the shirtless one, looking up at him expectantly with eyes that were reminiscent of some small and particularly fluffy animal as the idea of having her wings returned to her hovered in her mind.

Lumu did not exactly enjoy this place very much. It was loud, crowded and had that strong smell of the liquid she held that seemed to cover every crevice with its strange odour. She pondered why people would come to such a place, and after a level of deep thought that would be considered nothing but a mere obvious notion to a human, the moth came to the conclusion that the liquid must induce happiness of some sort, given all the laughter from those around, especially the jovial and hairy creature's fondness of the liquid. Little Lumu, not wanting to be left out of the festivities, took a large drink from her own glass, swiftly being overwhelmed by its powerful taste and scrunching up her face as the liquid slipped down her throat, the sensation of such a powerful liquid being rather foreign to her. "Myeh" she cringed, electing to put the glass back on the counter, pondering how all these beings could like such a drink in comparison to the loveliness that was water, that was so incredibly easy to drink in comparison.

The moth clambered up onto the available chair she had arrived next to after struggling through the people and placed her arms on the table before resting her slightly-pink face on them. Feeling a manner of dizzy that was foreign to her, hoping that the notion would pass if she rested long enough. In the mean time, she continued flickering her gaze between the duo that had answered her initial question, that being the only creature that seemed to be fluffier that her, and the half-naked human, pondering whether their answers meant that they intended to help her on her quest for alchemy, or if they were simply trying to keep the conversations flowing, as the talkative creatures of all kinds tended to do.

"Currently? No," he answered somewhat blandly. Then, he elaborated:

"If I get out of this alive, I will be busy in this country for some time. After that, I'll be returning to him, and I don't mind taking you. That said, my master isn't someone you can just talk to. He has transcended the human condition and become a celestial being. Nowadays, he spends entire decades meditating without movement, and if he needs to do something, he simply manifests an avatar to do it for him."

Verxi remembered these avatars. They looked like humans from glowing gold, bright enough to dazzle someone who looked without squinting; they had ideal proportions. Verxi was told one such avatar could easily take out a high-level monster, like a beholder or a dragon.

Not that the master ever bothered with such trifles.

Cultivation was like the antithesis of itself. If you learned it for its own sake, you'd be certain to achieve promising results. Likewise, doing it for enlightenment entailed similar benefits. However, the more grounded and material one's desires for it were, the slower would be their development. A bandit intent on using it to rob people would never form an Ego Barrier, though Verxi was yet to achieve that himself.

It was inversely proportional. The more you desired that power, the less of it you would get. The less you desired of it, the more you would receive. What you did with it didn't matter; you could still rob people in the end, if it suited the situation you were in. What mattered for the development was the desire your heart held when you learned it, rather than used it.

Naturally, this meant Verxi's development was very stunted by his earthly desires and unnecessarily holding onto emotions like pride too strongly. The Ancient One theorized that as soon as he let go of these meaningless things, he'd surely hit some kind of breakthrough instantly. One could compare it to Verxi having climbed two or three steps of a one-hundred step ladder in his entire life so far, and as soon as he let go of his desires and temptations, he'd climb ten steps at once and climb thrice as quickly from there.

Compared to that, the Ancient One had climbed the entire ladder, then climbed a rope up a jagged slope, and was now yelling encouraging words at his students, Verxi among them. Funnily enough, the Ancient One never stopped climbing. Though he had refined his body, mind, and spirit into the purest multi-faceted diamond that shone through the world, the old man was still trying to achieve yet higher levels of fathomless purity.

There were other ways to learn Ki than to climb the ladder, of course. The methods that materialists and savages used - herbal teas that enhanced one's growth, special potions that granted a Ki supply, and other cheats like this. The Vendi-Ka looked at this much like a priest might look down upon someone making a deal with the devil, though not quite as radically, as these people weren't exterminated, merely exiled.

Finally, Verxi realized that his thoughts went really off-tangent because the guy writing this kind of really got into it and then it spiralled down. Verxi realized, also, that he had used his special top-secret ability: [Break The Fourth Wall] on accident. Deciding to get back on track, he said,

"In any case, as much as my master taught me to look towards the future, I must focus on the current mission."

"Speaking of which," Aunran interjected. The mage showed them a 'V' with his fingers. "We have two more team members who haven't gathered yet. We begin the operation soon, so if they don't arrive by dusk, we'll set off without them."

Kyndryr, in the Drunken Dragon Inn, approaching the group at large.

Kyndryr watched the group settling in about the red robed figure from under the hood of his cloak and tried, unsuccessfully, not to sigh. He had been in this gods-forsaken town just one day too long, and been caught behind the closed gates as the besieging force settled into place. His efforts to make his way out had been stymied by his unwillingness to kill or even seriously injure the town guardsmen who were trying their best to maintain law and order in the increasingly lawless town, and now he was reduced to answering broadsheets in an attempt to gain egress before the town ate itself from within, or the waiting forces got tired of waiting and simply leveled the town, with one Kyndryr still within its walls. Neither option appealed to him, and so he pushed off of the wall and threaded his way towards the table occupied by the red robed figure, examining the figures gathered about the table.

Two, no three of the figures seemed to be from out-country, judging by their style of dress, or undress. One appeared to have, tails?! Must be some kind of beast-kin. The young blonde woman with the rather askew wardrobe he would have perhaps pegged as a warrior, though her apparent clumsiness belied any such idea. He wasn't quite certain about the rather under-dressed young man, save that the tightness of his shoulders made it apparent that he was trying to exercise self control to quash an internal anger over something. Not Kyndryr's problem. The insectoid creature was intriguing, something that Kyndryr had not seen in books, or during his travels. It didn't seem to be a warrior, but perhaps it had hidden talents. Compared to the insect and the outlanders, the rest of the group seemed, normal. The lounging satyr was no surprise, though her obvious lack of hygiene was startling. The golden eyed woman struck Kyndryr as a magic user of some type, cold and aloof he would bet, quick to judge. The red-head in the leather was trouble. Every instinct Kyndryr possessed screamed at him to keep a close eye on that one, and to count his fingers and toes before allowing her to depart.

His observations had carried Kyndryr to the table, and he slipped into an open spot near the table. He didn't sit, but came to a position of near attention, turning towards the seated mage.

"Kyndryr," he said, raising his hand in greeting. "I assume you are Marquis Black's man."

Kyndryr let his gaze sweep across the odd assembly of beings, giving each an evaluating glance before returning his attention to the mage.

"This should be, interesting."

Hermione "Hermy" Puckette
andi_concept_sketches_by_crescentvenus-d5io4bj.jpg
Hermione stayed out of most of the surrounding conversations, mainly interested in her drink. She turned to the foxy lady (figuratively and literally) as she continued to talk to her with the same husky and seductive tone. The Satyr grunted a little as she shifted in her seat. Already she was beginning to feel all hot and bothered. This was too different for the Satyr. With a clear of her throat, she stood up unsteadily.

"Well, I'll get the drinks in." she said, grabbing the empty glasses and tankards, "Anything else anyone'd want?" she questioned the group. She waited for several moments before taking them to the bartop in the corner. As she got to the corner, the man who owned the tankard she had shot walked up to her.
"Oi! Ya owe me a beer, ya fleabag!" He growled, making Hermione wrinkle her nose at the stench of booze on the man's breath. Some people...
"Eh...Nah, you should have moved, mate. Not my fault." she said before attempting to turn away, only to feel the man grab her shoulder and spin her back around.
"I should have moved?! Yer the one firing bleeding arrows inside a building! I should get the guards!" He snapped.
"And who is gonna believe you, mate? I barely left a hole in the wall."
"They're more likely to believe me, a man over a half-bred goat!"

Something about the way he said that struck a nerve with Hermione. Her tail swished lowly in frustration. She hated being called that so much. It instantly took her back to her younger years. The Elves would rarely call her by her given name and she'd be called "Goat", something the Satyr grew to resent deeply. She simply snorted, blowing some stray hair away from her face.

"Well... I'm not gonna give you a tankard, but I can give you this!" She raised her hand, giving him what looked like an upside down "O.K" sign with her fingers. The man looked at it with confusion- for only a split second before Hermione very swiftly reached down, flicking the man hard right between his legs. The man let out a squeak of pain as he doubled over- right in the road of Hermy's horns as they rammed into him, causing him to fall back.

Frowning, Hermione grumbled as she grabbed her own drink (and anyone elses if they wanted any) and went back to the table. She sat back down, still with a frown on her face. She could not escape those memories now, much to her disgust. Could they just not go away? Shaking her head a little, in an attempt to get rid of those thoughts, she went to take a drink from her glass when she noticed the moth-like girl, who seemed somewhat tipsy even though the Satyr had seen her only taking a small sip out of something. What a lightweight. It was almost cute.

The sound of an unfamiliar voice caught her attention, mentioning the "interesting" aspects of what was going on. She simply shrugged, "Says the guy with the black hood, black trousers, black... everything. Going through a phase?" She grumbled before knocking the ale back. This day was going great...

Kasumi Yasashīha

Kasumi kept quiet as she listened to the others. She looked upon Ayasha as she blinked a bit in surprise about her comment towards Scarlet. Her cheeks reddened a bit more seeming a little bit taken back not having really fully caught onto what Torch had said before. It was quite a forward topic to bring up and one that she wouldn't even remotely think about discussing particularly in conversation. It made the whole idea of attempting to 'settle down a possible argument' that much awkward for her. That sort of topic was beyond taboo to discuss in public where she came from easily something that would be considered 'vulgar'. She kept quiet rather then speaking up as Scarlet retorted unable to help but feel a bit awkward like she was listening into something she wasn't suppose to.

Her head turned towards Verxi in hopes of escaping from any lingering thought of the rather 'inappropriate' subject matter. She felt rather out of place shifting to focus on the topic of alchemy but perhaps she could find some sort of common ground. When the topic suddenly shifted to talks about Verxi's apparently 'non existent, existent master' or whatever it was he was saying her mind quickly tuned right out. Why couldn't the just about normal stuff like good foods... or swords! Swords were always a fun topic to discuss for Kasumi! Fortunately the robed man who they were suppose to meet with spoke up. It was a nice little escape from her rather awkward position and perhaps a chance for her to speak once more ideally with her earlier fumble tucked far away from everyone's mind by now.

"Ah! That's good to hear! I wonder who the last two are?" She spoke starting off a bit hurried in her tone though quickly settling down feeling a little more comfortable. At the very least the blush on her cheeks had settled down a little bit. As if fate was finally playing in her favor a new man approached. It was her chance to at least come off properly to someone else. As he addressed the mage she bowed her own head in response injecting herself into the conversation. She didn't really notice much of his tone with his last comment not even thinking much of it in her desire to try and find a place to fit in better.

"Greetings," She spoke, that was something they usually said when it came to introductions in the west right? "My name is Yasashīha Kasumi, it's a pleasure to meet you Kyndryhr." She spoke a bit of an awkward expression on her face trying to say is name correctly feeling as if she might mess it up and create yet another bad impression. She bowed her head lightly with a light smile on her lips trying to be a bit more at ease. She couldn't help but blink glancing back to the satyr who the fox lady had been a bit extra close to commented in response to the man's words. She blinked, thinking a little bit more about it just then really catching on to what he meant by 'interesting'.

Kyndryr, in the Drunken Dragon Inn, addressing Hermy and Yasashīha.

"Not at all," Kyndryr said, smiling grimly at the satyr. "They don't show blood."

Kyndryr turned his attention to the oddly dressed woman, well, one of the oddly dressed women at any rate, who had introduced herself.

"A pleasure miss Kasumi," he replied, nodding. "Not that your pronunciation is far off, but the last half of my name is closest to dryer than to dryhr. Still, you do far better than most."

Kyndryr returned his gaze to the satyr, one eyebrow rising as she drained her tankard with an alacrity few could match.

"Daughter of Field and Forest," he said in Sylvan. "Why do you do this to yourself? What has brought one of the Bright Ones so low?"

When Hermoine returned to the table with drinks, Callie was only too eager to take a mug off her hands. Golden eyes shifted from woman to man, to woman, to man. Then her eyes went once more to Scarlet. And she pointedly lifted her tankard of ale and took a swallow. Then another...and another...and another...until she drained the entire container dry.

Then, with some deliberation, she scooted the tankard to the side and pressed her head against the tabletop, as if the wood would block out the sight of the people she was going to risk her life with.

A smirk formed on Ayasha's face as she saw Hermione's reaction. The way she moved in her seat, clearing her throat, and finally standing up and prompting to 'fetch some drinks'. The satyr's struggle to resist her allure was just too fun to pass up on.

But with Hermione no longer before her, she turned her attention back to the redhead - or as she stated her moniker, Torch.

The rogue's laugh and response made it seem that Ayasha's original perception of her was inaccurate. Of course, the fox-girl acknowledged this with a comment of her own.

"Hmm~ I see. Everyone has their preferences, after all.", Ayasha said, then answered the rogue's latter question - as if it was a normal thing to talk about in public. "Not really, no. They're not that big to cause me some problems."

And finally, Hermione returned, which prompted Ayasha to return her glance to her designated 'target'...for now, that is. This group has presented quite an intriguing bunch, and most of them fit Ayasha's rather diverse tastes.

She traced her finger from Hermione's chest up to her chin, in quite a slow and sensual manner.

"Now, now...Hermy.", she spoke, a fragrant aroma emanating from her very self once more. "There are better things to do than talking with a psychopath."

Hermione glanced up to see the man speak to her again. As he did, she got a better look at him. There was something distinctly Elfish about him. The Satyr frowned and looked away from him. Great, she hoped she could get away from bloody Elves but apparently not. Didn't he have some lower life form to preach to about his superiority? Or was he doing just that but disguising it with flowery language? She was not familiar with the tongue he was using but she did understand what he said.

"...I'm a Satyr." She answered bluntly, "It's nature." She looked away, finishing off her tankard. As she did, she jumped slightly as Ayasha spoke again and ran a hand up her chest, keeping her seductive tone. Hermione bit her lip as her grubby cheeks went red, more flushed than they already were from the drink. Between her legs, she started to feel... well, something that was not good for the public. She fidgeted with her poncho, pushing it further down to cover it more. Could she at least wait until they had some privacy?

"Haven't even had Nymphs like you," she said, unsure herself if this was to be perceived as a compliment or insult. She wasn't lying. The Satyr had had her share of tail in her day. Beginning to feel hungry, Hermy looked at the table and a clay bowl that did once contain grapes. With a gruff sigh, she picked the thing up and took a large bite of it. It tasted... well, like clay. But Hermione did not mind that much. It did not cut the inside of her mouth or get in her teeth and she swallowed it with ease.

As she ate, she noticed that the group seemed prepared to leave. With a deep sigh, she grabbed her bow and threw her quiver over her shoulder. Before she went, she went back up to the bar once more to pay for her tab (having a near heart-attack at the amount said) and refilling her wine-skin which hung around her neck.

Venturing outside, the Satyr's eyes squinted from the bright light. They looked red and frankly, they did hurt a little. She decided it was best to stay quiet as she followed Aunran. Her hooves clopped unsteadily on the cobblestone as she struggled to keep her balance. She shook her shaggy and dishevelled head in an attempt to wake herself up. The fresh air was a welcome change from the stuffy heat of the pub and it did make the Satyr feel a bit more collected.

Scarlet silently observed the moth as she drank - it was a she right? - the beverage, clearly not enjoying it's taste. She assumed this meant that the creature had a high probability of being a light-weight, something she might take advantage of. She was still half-listening to the conversation between the bug and the under-dressed man who was going on about his 'master' and what his master could do. Sounded rather dull to her and not an area of interest, mostly she was figuring it was probably another button she could push to trigger him since he had been so easily bothered by simply being noted as thinking he was at the beach.

A cloaked figure arrived and introduced himself to the other robed man. The new arrival made his remark as he took in the group and all Scarlet could do was lift up her tankard towards him before taking another swig. Interesting indeed.

"I'm good with what I have," Scarlet replied to the goat who offered to grab a round of drinks for whoever wanted one. She worried if she took the offer she'd get a drink with goat dirty goat fur in it, not tempting in the slightest. Also, like hell she was going to trust someone to buy her a drink. The goat could very well be an agent of the bad guys and be poisoning the group before they could even begin, though she doubted that scenario was highly likely, she had no reason to trust the stranger.

Still, the girl was amusing as she faced off against the man whose tankard she had pinned to the wall.

The others carried on with more introductions to the new arrival, well the clumsy one at least was. Scarlet wasn't really going to bother with their names. Well, perhaps one name. The golden-eyed woman seemed to be of the same mindset as herself; with party members like these, who needed enemies? They'd just as likely kill you.

Scarlet smirked as the woman laid her head upon the table before returning to her conversation with the fox. "Really? I mean I've seen they can be useful as a distraction, but I always wondered if they caused problems for things like squeezing into tight places. The blonde seems to bind hers. Blondie, would you say they get in the way?" Scarlet asked the girl who was clearly uncomfortable with the topic of the conversation.

She didn't bother to wait for a reply as the robed man told them they were ready to leave. Didn't he say they were waiting for two people? Maybe he just really wanted to toss them out of the city to get away from them all. Fine by her, she was perfectly willing to get the hell out of the slowly starving place. She quickly downed the rest of her drink and set the tankard down on the table before getting up to follow after the man.

The knight drew her attention, he was familiar, but right now she couldn't place him with his face covered, but then she really focused on what she could see and the armor itself and she suspected who it might be. The Marquis himself. This was confirmed with the shirtless boy asked if the Marquis was going to fight as well. She casually got closer to the Adept as he spoke about the man's skill. "He's going to get himself killed and leave the city in chaos because that general is going to flaunt that to the citizens. Might be best to just knock him out and taken back home. He'll just be handing over the city if he leaves it."

She didn't bother to whisper this, she said it as thought she were having a perfectly normal conversation. Scarlet intended for him to hear this as well. "And if he's dead, we don't get paid. We're not a protection detail. We are supposed to be an infiltration unit."[/div][/div][/div]

Battlements

"Bah, I told him exactly the same thing," he scoffed with contempt. Aunran peeked out the slits of the guardhouse.

The guardhouse was adjacent to the main gate. Its portcullises were reinforced with iron, and there were murder holes above it. The walls were not built of wood, but stone. This meant that even the army of four-hundred outside would have difficulty getting in. That said, they could, without a doubt, conquer the town if they put their mind to it. However, the losses in doing so could be avoided by simply waiting for the citizens and defenders to starve, after which their surrender would be inevitable.

Indeed, this town was built for the explicit purpose of taking on large armies. The title of Marquis referred to someone whose territories were in the outer rims of a country's borders, and a Marquis often had a fortress instead of a castle or palace; a venerable, defendable monument to warfare. The Marquis was always the first to take the brunt of war when one started. So even though Auroria wasn't the typical fortress, it still had comparatively high defenses for a town its size.

But seeing that most Marquis Black's men had been sent to aid the noble faction of the civil war, there wasn't much leeway in terms of offensive power. This was because of a decision made by the generals in charge, who didn't trust Marquis Black or his family but wanted to use his military force for their own means. They basically took away his men, and then made him stay at home, thusly depriving him of his pride as well.

Certainly, for a line of noble knights like the Blacks, this was an offense of the highest degree. But he could not do anything about this. Challenging one of the generals to a duel at a time of civil war was insane.

So, in that case, perhaps this was Marquis Black's way of proving himself to the people, or proving to himself that he can uphold the pride of his lineage.

Aunran sighed with a haaah. It was a sigh made by one who knew that Marquis Black's conduct was foolish, but who also knew that lecturing him or trying to convince him to do otherwise would be pointless.

Aunran then said, "Though he still has a son to take care of, and a wife he loves. I doubt he'll put himself in harm's way for something shallow like bravado."
