    Auguste is scary to meet at first. A man of few words and a seemingly permanent glare, his massive stature makes him stick out quite a bit from a crowd. Cold and callous, he doesn't have much to say, and usually he has some pretty biting remarks, especially when you first meet him.
    
    However, getting to know him, he's a really big gentle giant. A softie with a nice wolf puppy, his one goal in life is to live peacefully in the woods with his wolf and dance his little heart out for the rest of his life. Super calm and super chill, he's a bit of a pushover and really just a good friend.

    A spy from Fjerda and a Suli performer. Not really the most optimal of pairings, but that was how Julien was born. They stayed together throughout the Fjerdan's mission. It was a long-con mission and Julien had a surprisingly normal childhood growing up. He was deeply ingrained in the culture of the Suli and a musical prodigy as the caravan traveled around. The boy wonder who could sing and dance so beautifully it could stir the hearts of everyone who watched. It all came crashing down, though, when the spy was found out, and the performer was killed in the ensuing flight for their lives.
    
    Julien was taken back to the spy's home country where he continued honing his skills - this time though, dancing and singing for the wild tundras and forests he was surrounded by.
    
    His mother was disgraced though. She'd snuck into the army as a boy and then given birth to a bastard half-Suli with no husband. The grief and her new status as a social pariah drove her slightly insane until she became extremely abusive towards her son. But it hardened him as his emotions shut down as a result of the abuse, and made him into a fierce creature that was as untameable as the wild winter around them, terrorizing the village as he became angrier and angrier. His punishments became worse and worse as a result, which made him fight others in the village more and more. She sent him into the Drüskelle hoping that they could beat the terrifying monster she'd created into submission.

    Julien was not in fact broken by the Drüskelle. In fact, he was encouraged to be a bloodthirsty beast. But they did eventually beat him into discipline. But, the Drüskelle were really happy with the idea that they had a battle-hungry monster of a man ready to fight anyone, though they didn't officially recognize him as Drüskelle because of his half-Suli heritage, it was pretty much known that he was quickly becoming a secret weapon they would release to the world.
    
    And then they gave him a wolf to take care of. And Julien's eyes were opened to compassion. For the first time in a decade, Julien was treated well by a creature. And it opened his eyes to exactly what his mission was - a holy war to smite an entire race. And it opened his eyes to how he was also treated rather cruelly in order to keep his bloodthirst ready. And a small little ball of deep seated rage opened up directly directed towards the Drüskelle.     Julien made his way eventually to Ketterdam, penniless and in shambles. Wild from years of travel where he had to live in the woods, and survive best as he could while traveling through Ravka and Shu Han who did not enjoy the idea of an undocumented half-Fjerdan half-Suli wandering through. Eventually, though, he made it.
    
    He made his way to Little Ravka for sanctuary, where he was granted it provided he could provide something for the city. So he began dancing for money, joining the ballet company in Ketterdam under his new name: Auguste Cortes. This was where Rikki found him.       He's a fellow Fjerdan, though they've had very different experiences. Auguste really isn't sure who would be worse, but he tries to give Nikolai a wide berth - after all, it wasn't like Auguste was keeping a particularly low profile when he was being mean and crazy.       Rikki's alright. He's... somewhat predictable, which means that Auguste likes him a lot.       Matt at his very core wants entertainment and will do anything to help alleviate his apathy and boredom. Auguste actually really likes Matt. At the end of the day, Matt is a person that Auguste actually likes. Hallelujah.

    Matt's a pretty straightforward guy when you really get to know him. Outwardly, he's got this cool, apathetic devil-may-care attitude with enough of a scholarly, academic flair to him that is surprisingly alluring. Sharp grins and an equally sharp tongue, Matt is pretty critical of most things around him. But that isn't to say he is just bitter, because that would be too easy for someone like him. Instead, he trades this critical sharp eye and dry wit with a spontaneity and a surprisingly light-hearted goofiness that balances into a full picture: he is just someone who doesn't give a shit about societal standards and norms.
    
    A bit of a dick, a bit of an intellectual, and a bit of a goofball, it's difficult to exactly predict what Matt might do next. Maybe he'll start an argument about why murder is okay, maybe he'll flirt with exaggerated innuendo and a swagger found only in parody, maybe he'll learn another language's dialect for the shits and giggles. It really just depends on what Matt thinks will alleviate his boredom.
    
    That is to say, Matt is simply apathetic to the world around him. He truly doesn't care what anybody thinks of him, or what happens around him.     Matteo was born as an Inferni in a prison colony to the Kerch in the Southern Isles. He grew up in a prison camp, where the primary currency was cigarettes and the secondary currency was kruge. His praents were extremely distant from him, as neither had really wanted him to be born. Instead, they'd put a hoe in his hand and told him to get useful. Naturally kind of thin and scrawny, Matt made himself stronger and tougher in order to survive the harsh reality he lived in. And, he began looking very swiftly for a way out.
    
    When you are born in a prison, you try to not bring too much attention to yourself. One of the few actually kind prisoners learned that he was an Inferni when he saw him heat a cold bowl of soup that he'd been given to eat that day. Immediately, it'd led to the man beating him with a couple of his buddies. A harsh lesson to be taught, but Matt never showed his Inferni powers again and began repressing it. At some point after this, he began developing a deep apathy towards all things as he simply didn't care anymore.
    
    Through the haze of apathy though, Matt developed a deep sense of ambition to get out of the prison colony. So froma very young age he began reading and writing as much as possible and teaching himself other languages from the other prisoners until he was completely fluent in every main language - with his list continuing to grow as he began delving into dialects and regional differences. The hungry young mind was eventually seen by the other colonists - the guards. Once Matt had gotten their attention, he did a little bit of... elbow rubbing and was eventually sent to Ketterdam as a university student.

    Matt quickly climbed the social hierarchy of his university when he entered despite not having a wealthy name or much kruge to his name. Smart and witty, he learned pretty quickly that he could have people falling at his feet with just a grin and a couple of honeyed words. He didn't really care for the social and financial perks as much as he did the physical rush. Everyone in Ketterdam in comparison to the Southern Isles was soft and he was taking advantage as much as he could.
    
    It all came crashing down when they realized that he was just a heartbreaker and a manwhore who didn't really care. The precious heirs had been defiled and shamed and he'd unwittingly played them all. And now the big old money people were staring at the genius that they'd employed and then introduced to high society, and turned on him.
    
    They forced the university to drop his scholarship his senior year, and sent people to beat him into submission - dead or alive. And as hardened by years of taking a beating as he was, he couldn't do anything against an entire group of people that were actively trying to kill him..     Matt was fished out by Rikki and his gang, shielded from further harm and put back on his feet so that he could go to class the next day. Tentatively, he joined the gang as a translator for them when they needed to deal with foreigners or when they needed an in to the university he continued to attend as a grad student out of sheer spite. Tentatively, that is, because Rikki doesn't let him around much. Matt's really only called in if they need a translator for brief stints at a time.     Nikolai thrives off of the attention of others. Feeling all eyes on them is their soul desire. Some might call them an attention whore, they prefer extreme extrovert. If there's someone to talk to, someone who needs information pulled out of them, Nikolai can do it. Unfortunately, with a big ego comes big expectations. They're known for wanting anything they can't have. Playing hard to get is their least favorite game, but they can't seem to stop taking the challenge. Nikolai likes to be in control, when things happen without their influence, moods are likely to sour.
    
    She tries to keep things friendly. Things are easier in the barrel with as few enemies as possible. This also has to do with the fact that past a few Heartrender tricks, Nikolai can't fight. Physical altercations trigger their freeze response, leaving them high and dry. They just have to work harder everywhere else to prove they aren't a liability.
    
    Outside of this, Nikolai is good at hiding physical signs of stress. Smiling through everything keeps people from seeing the underlying truths. Keeping secrets is essential to this kind of work, and Nikolai is good enough at being discrete in all manners that don't involve hookups.     Born in a Fjerdan fishing town, being Grisha was a death sentence. Wild and uncontrolled, emotion followed Nikolai everywhere. The more tense they got, the more stressed and angry their parents became. The more relaxed they were, the calmer everyone around them. Matters of the heart were relatively easy to conceal, but there is only so much that can be hidden from Djel. Grisha power left unused can make one ill, but use it too much and they’d get caught. Nikolai’s life hung in the balance of this delicate dance only getting worse as they aged.
    
    Discrepancy is key, and sometimes one must get a little creative. Sex gave control. Heat and a racing heart are normal reactions at such a time. It was easy to sneak in a little more reaction, more intensity. A simple slide of the fingers.
    
    Though taboo in Fjerda, people from across the sea would dock at port frequently. If not them, there’s always a Sildroher.
    
    It wasn’t enough. Nothing could be enough.

    There are only so many places for an inexperienced Grisha with no identifying documents to go. The Orchid wasn’t so bad. Nikolai learned tons of new skills and put old ones to good use. Somehow, this new life in Ketterdam was worth it over life at the docks. They were free to practice, free to learn, and free to meet new people.
    
    Rikki Ellison was a bad guy, but he wasn’t a bad guy. Once he heard word of a Heartrender in town, there was no getting him to leave Nikolai alone. Not that they’d want him to. He supplied an identity, however legal, and a place to call home.     There are two categories of people in Rikki's eyes. Those he hates, and those he tolerates. The majority of people fall into the former, where a couple of useful faces may take refuge in being the latter. At least, that's how he likes to see it. Rare, but still possible, some people may slip through the cracks and find their way into his life, much to his displeasure.
    
    Though getting to that point is more arduous than one might anticipate. Just as he has two categories for people, he has two categories for himself. Insincerely: He may choose to behave around people, playing charming to get what he wants. Rikki knows how to talk in circles, lead off the trail. He will observe and shift into the ideal person to smooth things over.
    
    Business-wise, Rikki tries to pull himself inward and not let his true intentions be seen, even towards his allies. Everything is on a strict need-to-know basis. He appears calm and collected, rage only directed as necessary.
    
    If you are fortunate, or unfortunate to be on the receiving end, to view him without masking, Rikki holds quite the temper. It is almost shocking at how well put together he can act in comparison to his ever running thoughts.     In childhood, Rikki's life was rather uneventful. Exploring fairy caves in Istamere can only be so fulfilling. He grew agitated and violent as he aged, causing problems and partaking in risky behaviors to gain some sort of control over his life: some excitement that would stimulate his senses, for it was the only thing that could bring him happiness. Rikki felt empty, and lashing out gave the adrenaline that earned relief.
    
    Because of this, however, things grew tense at home. Rikki opted to stay out for long periods at a time to avoid this, but that brought on its own issues. Disappearing for days on end, coming back bruised and bloody was something no parent would wish for their child. The stress was too much and so a decision had to be made.
    
    His parents came to the conclusion that there was a need to take more assertive steps for Rikki. And thus, he was to be sent to a boarding school in Geldstraat, Kerch.

    Things didn't go as planned as Rikki was shipped off. While safely arriving in Kerch, the moment he saw a chance for freedom he dove for it. Slipping off, Rikki took to the winding streets. It was time to put the skills he acquired to the test, to make due on his own. So what if he didn't have a bed? At least he could do whatever he pleased. And so, this led him deep into Ketterdam.
    
    It didn't take long before he started stirring up trouble. Kid gotta live, money is important. Some successful scams and thefts got him barely day by day, but things are more difficult in Ketterdam than his hometown. His frustration got the better of him and brought him to a more frontal approach of attempting a mugging. He looked nice, something you didn't just see walking the streets of Ketterdam. He seemed to just be asking to get robbed. But, Rikki soon learned if something looks that easy, it is too good to be true.
    
    Rikki ended up watching the dingy sky, dazed in a heap of trash within moments. When the man hadn't handed over his things, Rikki went for the offensive. The gun pointed at his face, startled him, but it was never used after that. Some sharp blows and then next thing he knew he just... woke up with some old rag as a blanket over him. His pride was wounded, he was hungry, in pain, and lost who a good chunk of the day.
    
    Rikki wanted revenge. So of course the most natural thing to do was to hunt down this stranger and challenge him to a fight. This wasn't about the money any more. Rikki wanted to hand his ass to him.
    
    This became like clockwork after a time, Rikki would show up the same time every day and challenge this stranger. Every time ended in failure. The man was untouchable. It made Rikki furious. Too angry to even notice that the man was weasling his way in. They started speaking more between the fights and the man, Michael, Rikki found out his name was, helped uot Rikki when he could. Convincing him to eat before another attempt and the likes.
    
    One day, after another inevitable loss, the script changed. Michael held out a helping hand for Rikki to get up, and surprisingly, the blonde took it. They were communicating through these fights, and with the last one Rikki knew what Michael was going to say. "Let me help you." Just the same, Michael knew Rikki's answer.
    
    "Okay."
    
    The two had developed an unserperable bond along those months, they were attuned to each other. And that was how Rikki fond himself truly in the belly of the beast.
    
    What Michael's help entailed was bringing him into a gang. Not the most orthodox, but it worked for Rikki. Fighting Michael all this time gave him the excitmenet he craved, he felt like he belonged. Over those couple months the two had become family. Michael felt fondness for the aggressive kid and Rikki was eager to get his hands dirty.
    
    Things didn't change over the years, Rikki proved to make great advancements, a jack of all trades if you will. He could figure out just about anything and manage it well enough to be useful. No master, but well balanced. He was Michael's own personal project, he wanted Rikki to be able to thrive here, live how he wanted and keep him well prepared. It was home to the both of them.
    
    But good things don't last. Michael was killed. The exact details never got out, even to the own gang. But Rikki came back one day, bloodied, and reeking of smoke. A burned down building was discovered to hold a couple of unidentifiable bodies. It wasn't hard to put one to Michael.     After Michael perished things became more difficult. The gang started splintering and falling apart. And that is where Hunter Delapore stepped in. Rikki was the natural successor after Michael, but under scrutinizing rumors that led Delapore to sink his claws in and pull the rug out from under him. There, Rikki was put under a watchful eye. He was too useful to be disposed of, but a threat to his power. But Rikki has used his time wisely, mending relations and gaining loyalty from old and new members.

    You never really see a smile drop from his face. Mishka appears to be perpetually happy and can’t take anything seriously. He goes day by day on a whim and enjoys life to the fullest. However, this is put on for show. While he is a generally happy person, Mishka extends his reactions as if he is performing, making them over the top, and sometimes, a bit too much to handle.
    
    He does experience other real emotions of course, just has them hidden behind that ever-lasting smile. You won’t know when he is hurt by something said, or scared of any danger faced in front of him.

    Back in Ravka, Mishka was lonely. His parents died at an early age which sent him to an orphanage, where being the smallest kid his age was a cruel curse. He was picked on plenty, and if he dared fight back that got him the switch for egging on the other children. There was no winning for a runt, eaten alive by others and punished for defending himself. So he learned to take what was dished out with a smile. It was his way around the system, to not be broken by pain.
    
    And it worked a little! Some of the less devoted kids gave up with no reaction. Of course, there was no complete escape, some more mean kids held out their teasings and beatings. But he managed to start making friends this way and things went along easier.
    
    But that left a hatred boiling in his chest. Why should he have to sit and take it in order to see progress? Where were these friends when he was suffering? It wasn't fair. He stayed in that orphanage until he was sixteen before he finally had enough.     Turns out, traveling alone at sixteen is much more difficult than anticipated. But Mishka wouldn't trade it for the world. The experiences he gained from being thrown headfirst into the rough became immeasurable, the freedom he obtained a blessing.
    
    Two years he spent going place to place, he did want to find somewhere to call home but there was no rush. Sometimes he'd find a town to stay in for a little bit, doing odd jobs or stealing to afford lodging. It was along this time that he grew stronger. He honed in his slight of hand, he found out he had a natural knack for gymnastics and contortions, there was nothing that could keep him down.
    
    This was not sustainable though, and with his time he eventually landed in Ketterdam. It sounded like a good match for his lifestyle.     Freshly eighteen, Ketterdam was his oyster. Quickly picking up a cheap place for housing, he figured he wouldn't be spending much time there, it was now about learning the rules of the game. His pickpocketing skills were exceptional which made for the best choice in earnings as he wasn't about to sell himself off and he didn't have the best knack for gambling unless he could cheat his way through, an experience that nearly got him killed.
    
    That left him with knew knowledge. You don't survive Ketterdam all on your own. No really stayed alone, even if trust wasn't with each other. There were gangs, and alliances, groups forming to help each other just enough from the dog-eat-dog world. Mishka needed to become a part of something bigger than himself.
    
    He found this in other runaways and orphans. Outcasts that were struggling such as a boy with a missing leg, or a girl half her expected height for age, people who had their weakness as a target on their back. These were his people, and he used the strength he obtained to bring them together. Mishka became their leader, their light. He made sure they didn't take things just sitting down and instead fought back, helping them discover their strengths as he did his own.
    
    Together, they were able to pin down bigger prey. A pack of animals, working together to tear down larger predators. That's what led him to Rikki. Word was already spreading about the ragtag group, but it was the personal strike on the man that led him to Mishka. Now, the small boy had no clue of Rikki's status, but he could read that if it was pulled off, he'd make way with some good money.
    
    Needless, his mark was a fail and he found himself with a gun to the head. What Rikki saw in those few moments of being beaten down, Mishka didn't know. But for some reason he let him go.
    
    That should have been the end of it, but later, there was the blonde at the groups' doorstep, looking for Mishka and making demands. It was odd, Rikki made a game out of it. Mishka could choose to hide within a certain radius and Rikki would have ten minutes to find him. Easy enough, but stupid. Mishka didn't want to be playing whatever was being set up, but there was no choice with his found family in the crossfire.
    
    After a couple of rounds, stopping only when Rikki was able to find him, there came a decision that would change their lives. He wanted Mishka's skills and in return he'd offer them protection and more kruge than they ever hoped to achieve on their own. It was there he learned who Rikki really was, that bastard having a greater reputation than what Mishka would ever consider.

He's even gotten a heavy nose breathe out from such endevours!       Dearie Rikki, the leader, the mastermind. It's like poking a bear with a stick when he tries to get on his nerves and man is the thrill exhilarating. Still, despite all this talk of messing with him, Mishka is incredibly loyal to Rikki for what he's done for him and he'll never be able to repay him enough. Well, maybe that was his goal afterall.
