Description: Grim has the general wolf-like features of any Shistavanen, though his muzzle is broad and his eyebrows set low, giving him a more lupine appearance than many of his race. His fur is ash-grey and glossy and striped with white markings half-outlined in black. Black marks at the base of his snout make him look like he is constantly irritated. His ears are longish and less fur-covered than others. His lips are black and the lower can always be seen, making him seem slightly pouty, which takes away from the intimidating impression he wishes to give. His eyes are his most striking feature, brilliant gold in colour and they seem to look straight into you when he catches your gaze.  Grim often wears a black flight suit under a brown leather jacket and a utility belt coupled tightly about his waist. The shirt sleeves are rolled up to his elbows, exhibiting muscular, hairy arms. He is lean but strong, the result of regular physical training.

Personality:

Grim generally does not like working in a team, and if forced he can make life difficult for the other members in terms of snide remarks or harsh criticism, despite his open-mindedness for a Shistavanen. This often makes him unpopular in a tight-knit group. He is prone to thinking that he can perform tasks better than others, a belief that is commonly proven wrong.  Grim often doesn't even notice it himself, but he quite enjoys the company of others, even when he is complaining about them. He enjoys old plays and songs from every corner of the galaxy and whatever pastry he can find (baked confections are a weakness). Grim loves a good challenge be it competition or the learning of a new skill and can often be goaded into trying new things.  Grim hates crowds, loud noise and overpowering smells, so any low-town bazaar will annoy him if he is subjected to it for an extended length of time. He's not fond of being proven wrong and is especially sore about being outmatched in the sky though that event is rare.

Grim detests cowardice to the point where he almost takes personal offense. This springs partly from his deep dislike for the empire, a party that relies almost solely on fear.  Being a smuggler he is not reputed to have much of a conscience and he tries his best to hide his stronger moral character under bluffs and unfeeling remarks. Grim tries to be stoic and formal in almost all situations at first, but it breaks down fairly quickly when he notices the situation does not call for strict protocol. He is witty and carries a sharp tongue for almost everyone, though the more you are subjected to his jabs, you will quickly realize the more he admires and trusts you.  Grim does have the ability to tone it down, especially for moments that call for somberness. He can be quite comical in his awkward attempts at comfort, he can even be funny on purpose when he tries to cheer someone up.

Underneath the dark, predatory visage he ultimately has a soft demeanor, though he will go to great lengths to conceal this fact. Grim is strong of heart and genuine and loyal to any he calls friend.

Background:

Grim was raised in a small multi-race colony in the outer rim. His grandparents had moved to the colony, not agreeing with the isolationist views of their kind and instead wishing to cooperate with other species and learn skills that would preserve their own culture in a changing galaxy.  Grim had a healthy mix of his own traditions and those of the other races that shared the small colony. His basic, though good is heavily accented by the few languages he learned first.

From square one Grim loved everything about flying. For all the negative things he had been told about the rest of the galaxy he wanted to see it for himself.  He spent his youth replacing a handful of the fighters that were taken from them when the Empire seized control of the little colony. When he looks back on that time he thanks the stars that his colony was much too remote to be of any sort of use and was largely left alone.

As soon as he was of age he bartered passage on a passing freighter to go further into the galaxy's center. There he was given a harsh lesson on the reality of life under imperial rule and was forced to adapt and learn quickly to survive.  Grim soon became part of a very successful smuggling ring that specialized in stealing and moving imperial fighters. He learned the skills he needed to be good at his job, a silver tongue and a quick blaster arm and though he disliked working with others, the venture was overall quite lucrative.

About 8 months from the present Grim's smuggling ring was attacked by imperial forces at their base on Corellia. A member of the ring had sold them out and, realizing it too late Grim could not warn them in time.  The sheer brutality of the attack leveled a city block. There was no taking prisoners, no acceptance of surrender, no trials or mercy. The attack was nothing more than a complete execution.

It was when he was digging through the ruins of their base, burying the bodies of his friends that he realized two things: one, despite all his grumbling, he was fiercely fond of the rogue family he had come to know, and two, he now harbored a deep loathing for the Empire. In that same block he came across a survivor, a young Twi’lek woman standing by the body of an old Bothan. Grim helped her put her mentor to rest and soon after became fast friends with the girl, who he soon found out was a long-escaped slave, Vara. Grim felt responsible for her and promised to help her as much as he could. Two months ago she received a lead on the whereabouts of her parents and, not wanting to put her new friend at risk, left him in the night.

Skills:

Smuggler:

- Ranged combat (blaster)

- Computers

- Pilot (rusty)

- Persuasion

Grim uses his predatory appearance to intimidate or garner admiration. His voice can be a commanding growl or a silken purr and his ability to persuade or coerce is improving, as is his skill at knowing which to apply in each case.  Grim is handy with a blaster and none too shabby at slicing into basic security systems. His slicing for now would ceiling at opening bay doors of storage facilities or old hangars.  His real skill however is (or was) in fixing and piloting fighters. In his youth Grim studied hard at the aviation camp in his sector. Though the worthy fighters had been 'secured' by the Empire he and a few others managed to piece together several craft from scraps and trained in those. The rocky, canyon-filled terrain of his home planet was the perfect airspace to hone his reaction time and maneuver repertoire. He has not kept up with the training however, a little difficult when on the run from the empire and the strict daily regime to keep reaction time sharp was left in the dust years ago. Grim could probably remember his tricks, but this will take time.

Weapon(s) of Choice: Grim's weapon of choice is a fairly standard blaster with a few modifications to allow for a slightly faster fire rate. Better for firefights were one would need to pin an enemy to claim  ground. He carries a pair of them in holsters on his belt.

Important Items: Grim does not get attached to things, this comes from a life of imperial searches and seedy ports. Anything he takes with him is generally locked safely away in his mind.

Motivations:  Grim never thought much about what he wanted beyond seeing the galaxy, that was until the empire mercilessly destroyed his friends. After that all he could see was the corruption and suffering the empire brought and it grated on him. Grim has no grandiose delusions about beating the empire, but he would like to give it a solid blow, to put the souls of his friends at rest.

Character Quest: Grim is looking for Vara. He still feels the nagging responsibility to her, born from the guilt of his team drawing the empire to that block on Corellia.

((We can do this if you decide to allow second characters, otherwise happy not to :3 ))

Extra:

Greatest Success: The smuggling band that Grim belonged to had no qualms about shifting goods under the empire's nose, but they never took slaves as cargo. If you ask Grim, his greatest moment was when he stole a Tie fighter during one job and dogged an imperial slave ship and its fighter escort. The band needed them out of the way, but Grim and a good friend managed to take out the escort entirely. A little more persuasion on Grim's part and they managed to capture the ship, freeing the slaves confined aboard.

Greatest Failure: It is still etched vividly in his mind: Grim's lowest moment was failing to save his team. He hadn't been able to send the message before the bombs went off, realizing too late that one of his closest friends had given them up to save himself. When he is alone he can still hear the static-filled voice of his leader over the comm, telling him not to come back, to get out of the system. Grim will never forget the moment he saw the smoking ruins of his home, and of the housing units surrounding it, all leveled to get only ten men.

(Let me know if I should cut his skills down))
