Her gaze trailed up the stone steps that lead to her family shrine, the smiling faces of her grandparents in mind when she looked to the red Tori Gate that hung above the entrance. Sighing, she picked up her suitcase and began walking up the stairs, her back to the taxi that had just taken them from the airport. She had missed the clean air and lesser noise pollution of Japan's more rural towns, and the shrine itself. As they had passed through the downtown area, she was a little sad to see that a lot of the gorgeous main mountain backdrop behind the town was being renovated to make space for some high-rise complexes that were rumored to be done within the next couple years. For some reason, seeing those old trees getting torn down left an ache in her chest.

Hearing the taxi start up, her blue eyes turned to look at her younger brother Shouta gathering his bags. "Come on, hurry up. We still have to go to school today, y'know," she huffed, a light smile on her features. Sho was a 16 year old, and an old freshman who had been held back a year. Today was actually his first day of highschool, so she could tell that he was purposefully being putzy just to try and stall the inevitable--and his nerves. He shot her a small half-hearted glare, and she smiled brightly at him. Of course he couldn't stay mad at his older sister for long--even if she was teasing him, and he was only pretending to be mad. Turning back around, Asami continued on up the stairs, bags in hand, before calling over her shoulder to her younger sibling, "Don't forget the cat!"

It didn't take long for them to greet their grandpa--their grandma had died a few years back, and now it was just going to be the two teens and the old man living on the shrine. She remembered her father making them promise that they would help out around the shrine as much as possible, considering their grandfather didn't really get that much help anymore. After setting everything down in her room, Asami was outside once more, school bag on her shoulder as she waited for Shouta to get all of his things so they could walk together. They only lived a couple of blocks from the school, which meant that even in the winter, they could walk to school. It was a good thing to--for as convenient as they were, Asami hated busses and basically any other form of large public transportation. For example--the simple two hour flight to the smallest city nearby had basically been hell for her, although she was glad that Shouta had enjoyed himself. She viewed the shrine's complex with an observant gaze, standing in front of a large sacred tree, and looking around from there on. There was a wellhouse to her left, and then storage house beyond it if she started facing the tree. The wellhouse was where prayers were made, as well as offerings and donations. A lot of people liked to tie prayer ribbons and slips onto the tree's branches in hopes that they might come true. The gate and staircase was to her right, and the living complex behind her. It was just as she had remembered it from her childhood...
