Some Say the Soul of the City's the Toll of the Bells

Personality:
Even to himself, Cheney is a concerning individual. One moment, he could be planning a prank, and the next, he could be cackling like one of those cheesy cartoon villains. He likes to call it the two sides of himself: his “sane” side and his “manic” side. His sane side takes prominence whenever he’s interacting with others, especially those he considers friends or colleagues in the ways of pranking. It is only when his sane side is present that Cheney is able to pretend seriousness, often laced with his natural humor. (He can never quite abandon it.) However, when his manic side is present, the mischievous gleam in his eye is scarier than amusing, and his jokes have a tendency to become sinister and dark, more so than usual. His manic side is also when he’s at his most cynical, and it is when it’s present that Cheney becomes more antisocial and brooding than he is when he’s sane.

For the most part, Cheney is all about pranks. Whether it’s for someone else or for himself or even for the hell of it, Cheney is always planning his next big prank. Pranks are his specialty, for without them, what kind of king of jesters and tricksters is he?

In some respects, Cheney is nearly incapable of legitimate care for others. However, he has an intense loyalty to friends and colleagues, which is the only form of love he seems to understand other than what he has for his best friend Quinn. Not that he’s around for Cheney to explore what exactly that means.

What Makes a Monster

History:
Ever since elementary school, Cheney was the self-designated class clown. He cracked jokes, pulled pranks, and especially got in trouble with teachers. Even though he was annoying and disruptive, teachers still grew to like his sense of humor.

His shtick grew from jokes and pranks to even more impromptu pranks and skits meant to entertain. Teachers grew fond of the way he would turn lessons into little skits that somehow helped his classmates study. Still, Cheney wasn't considered popular by any standards. Probably because he was a nerd about puppets, something seen as incredibly "uncool" by his others.

By high school, Cheney started hanging out with "popular" people. They treated him well, but most importantly, they laughed at his jokes. That was great and all, except for the fact that his so-called friends weren't what they seemed to be.

One day, he was suddenly dropped by the populars out of nowhere. They shunned him, wouldn't talk to him, and worst of all, they made other people do the same thing. All within the span of a single day, Cheney was ousted from the high school hierarchy.

All was not lost. One person still wanted to be Cheney's best friend--the "ugliest" guy in school. But Cheney looked past that title and saw the guy for who he truly was--the nicest guy in the school.

Thanks to his new best friend, Cheney became interested in philosophy--specifically what makes a man. Or a woman. Basically what makes a human. And he's been studying that specific question for years now.

I Got Your House Keys

Personality:
Levina is usually referred to as "that creepy girl." Though others would abhor this title, Levi embraces it. She's into creepy things, and she's okay with that. Everyone else who doesn't get it she simply chooses not to associate with. Those who dare to befriend her will get an earful about local ghost stories and other things having to do with the occult. Considering her mother runs a psychic's business, she tends to know what she's talking about. Points go to those who purposely ask her about her interests and actually listen. Extra bonus points to those who hold seances with her.

A long time ago, Levi stopped caring about what others thought of her. She shrugs off insults and jabs like a duck sheds off water. If she seriously cared what others thought, would she dress the way she does and act the way she does? Probably not. Levi is well aware that what you were like in high school won't matter later in life, and she especially knows that being yourself is the most important thing you can do in your life. So she does.

Sometimes, however, Levi can be too much. She acts a bit stalker-y with her friends and even those she's just meeting. Really, she does this as a form of protecting those friends and people. She's lost people before because she wasn't paying attention; she'll never make that mistake again.

Though Levi pretends not to care about much and stares at her phone sometimes rather than conversing, she cares a whole helluva lot. If she has anything to say about it, her friends will stay safe and by her side. If she has anything to say about it, nobody else is going to die because she was careless.

You Were Elected Mayor of Detention

Past Life:
Janna Ordonia was a student at Echo Creek Academy. It was there she met Star Butterfly, the princess of Mewni. Together, she and Star organized seances and other weird events. She became Star's go-to person for anything paranormal, a reference for anything unexplained. Though Janna often teased Marco and seemed to hint that she liked him, she in fact had a crush on 18th-century poet John Keats. Despite popular belief, she loved the color pink but hated contributing to gender stereotypes. More than anything, Janna doesn't care what other people think of her, and, in a way, she inspired Star to think the same.

Our World:
Levina Bautista was born to a Filipino family on the outskirts of Recuerdo. Her mother ran a psychic's shop, though everyone who went there only went there for fun. Levina's mom couldn't tell the future any more than her daughter could actually summon ghosts, but the family business was run purely for the entertainment of its patrons. To pay the bills, Levina's dad ran a small delivery business, in which her two older brothers worked.

Thanks to her mom, Levi developed an interest in all things tomboy and macabre from a young age. Though she liked pink, she refused to wear it or reveal this secret love to anyone else. For the most part, she did things that were too "boyish" to be girly and things that were too "creepy" to be normal. At first, she was bullied for it, but after her bullies realized she didn't care, they stopped. Why pick on something that doesn't respond? It was Levi's greatest win.

As Levi grew up, she grew into her unique persona. There weren't many girls like her around, and it interested those people in middle school and high school who were also considered "different." She became a leader of troublemakers, someone to look up to. It was in her early years of high school that she was approached by a boy with romantic intentions.

Levi agreed to go out with the boy, whose name was Max. He expressed a genuine interest in what she did, and she was surprised to find out that he was a huge comic book nerd. They got along great, and Levi fancied herself in love with him after a while. He was two years older than her, but he treated her like an equal, someone who was interesting...like someone normal. It was only with Max that Levi didn't get any inkling that her being "different" was negative.

One day, Levi was tapping away on her phone while Max drove her home. One moment, he was laughing at a snarky comment she made, and the next, they crashed into someone else. The other driver had been texting, like Levi, but unlike Levi, he had been driving and therefore not paying attention. His car rammed head on into Max's driver's side. When Levi came to, she was in the hospital with her brothers trying to figure out how to tell her that Max hadn't made it.

Levi didn't cry.

It wasn't until exactly six months later, when she got a tattoo to commemorate him, that she started crying. The tears didn't stop for days as she sobbed into her brothers' shoulders about how it was unfair, she should have seen the other driver coming, it should have been her. Slowly, the tears dried up, and whatever injuries she'd had turned to scars and eventually nothing. Levi hates that she has no scars, that she came out unscathed while Max lost his lives.

Every time she looks at her phone, she thinks of Max.

And how it was her fault that he died.

Did You Just Boot My Stroller?

Personality:
You want a flirty boy? Well, you got one. Noah isn't afraid to wink at anyone who shoots an interested look his way, and he certainly will not say no to anyone he also finds interest in. Smooth talking is his way of life. However, for the most part, this is all a show. Noah doesn't exactly resent his flirty ways, but in a way, he feels like he's betraying his true feelings. And that's only because there's one person he wishes would look at him again. By going against what he actually feels, Noah's not quite sure if he's ever truly being "himself."

Above all things, Noah loves animals. He's not quite sure why he never thought about working at the zoo before this year, but he finds animals fascinating. His favorite aspect of them is their similarities to humans. Of course, he forgot about his love of the natural world during an especially dark time in his life... But he digresses. It is his newfound love of animals that led him to finally pursue a major in biology. He hopes to someday help those animals that can't help himself, including endangered species. A secret environmental nut; that's Noah for you.

Regarding his fellow species--that is, humans--Noah is a bit of a sly fox. He says what he means, but he does it in a way that has you wondering if he ever said anything truthful. In a way, his past as a bit of a con artist still sticks with him, as he's always trying to persuade others that he knows what's best... even when he doesn't. All in all, though he wants to be social, he regrets that he can never truly be friends with anyone. Not after he hurt the person who meant the most to him. Who would ever want a friend like him?

We Don't All Get Along

Past Life:
Nick Wilde was a sly con artist fox who could trick anybody into giving him anything. Then he met Officer Judy Hopps, who caught him in the middle of a hustle and blackmailed him into helping her with an investigation into missing predator animals. After a whirlwind of close calls and nearly getting hurt--like a lot--Nick and Judy caught who they thought to be the culprit. Nick walked away from Judy after she insinuated predators were biologically coded to hurt others, despite the peacefulness of their animal world. But when she came to him, asking for help in catching the true criminal, he couldn't resist. And catch the true criminal they did. Somehow, he got roped into becoming a police officer... and Judy Hopps' partner.

Our World:
Noah Widener had the most standard childhood you can think of. Two loving parents, an older brother to look up to, and tons and tons of friends. As a kid, he played sports on the playground and charmed teachers by giving them apples. (Even though he personally preferred carrots.)

It wasn't until middle school that things started to take a turn. Noah's older brother headed off to college, so he wasn't around to tell Noah right from wrong. Meanwhile, his parents started working at almost all hours. Apparently, being the scientists they were, that was what was expected of them. With no one to turn to, Noah started doing some things he probably shouldn't have. Including hustling.

Widener was the name Noah's fellow students whispered when they needed something. He was always selling something. Whether or not it was real was always another matter. His persuasive personality tricked others into thinking what he was selling was legit or that whatever scam he was pulling was full of honest intent. Somehow, he got away with it all through middle school and high school. His loneliness persisted.

Noah graduated high school and decided not to go to college. At least, that was what he told himself. In reality, he was fairly confident in his hustling abilities to be able to make enough money to live off of.

Then he got caught.

To this day, he's still not sure how it happened, only that it did. One moment, he was closing a deal with a charming smile, and the next, he was in handcuffs. Then he was in a police station, and that was where he met her.

Through a sheer miracle and one helluva defense attorney (thanks to Mom and Dad), he got off with only parole, and Noah managed to ask her out. She made him want to become a better person, someone who came by his money honestly, and he managed to get a real job instead of being a con artist. Though his smiles still mimicked that of his former career, now he was trying real hard to deserve her.

Too short a time passed before it fell apart. Noah was devastated, but he wasn't necessarily surprised. He'd always known that he didn't deserve her, and their breakup was further proof. But he was determined to become a better person, so he kept working at it, and he actually started attending college.

Even so, he can't help but wonder if it'll ever be enough.

Memories:
1.) Judy~ The strangest rabbit he's ever met. And also his very best friend and partner.
2.) Predators vs. Prey~ The line between them made life hard for him. This memory comes with a slew of unpleasant emotions.
3.) Catching Bellwether~ He caught the strange sheep lady by trusting in his partner.

Tellin' My Friends of the Social Elite, Or Some Cute Cat I Happen to Meet

    Personality:
The short of it is: Pansy O’Connell is a liar. She lies about herself, she lies about others, and most importantly, she lies about her lies. Lies, lies, lies. They’re all she spouts, all she does. But Pansy doesn’t mind that she lies all the time—in fact, she prefers herself this way. If it means she can protect herself and her own interests, she’ll keep up the lies, even if it means hurting others in the process. A part of her hates that she does this and craves a connection with someone built on truths rather than lies, but self-preservation always trumps this feeling. And she hates that it does.

Though haughty and proud, Pansy regrets what her actions have done to her reputation. Perfectly nice people, whom she would normally be delighted to befriend, often stay away from her, due to the company she keeps. She can’t help that it’s always the dark side that seems to attract her more. Then again, she can never figure out which side, exactly, she favors. But she knows that both sides hold some sort of temptation. The questionable side, however, is more fun to her, even though the people are a little less fun to lie to, since they always see right through it. (Though she will admit, the questionable side holds a lot of attractiveness in it. And the people? Well. Some have lied just as much as she has…)

Information, information. All Pansy wants is information. She loves collecting information and dealing it out to those who pay the right price. Yes, she’s an infobroker, but she hates being called that to her face. It’s not quite as fun as it sounds. She’s very selective about what she will tell people, but she’s also quite capable of using her information to get whatever someone needs. Throwing a party and need some booze? Pansy’s your girl. Wanna know what your boyfriend’s doing on Saturdays when he’s not with you? She’s your girl for that, too. Pansy seems to know everyone and everything, with all the contacts necessary for just about everything. The only catch is, you can never be quite sure if whatever she’s telling you is truth… or lie.

    The World is My Backyard

    History:
There are many legends about the deep, dark past of Pansy O'Connell. But this is the generally agreed upon version that Pansy herself has admitted has some truth to it:

Even in elementary school, there was something strangely alluring about Pansy O'Connell. She knew everybody and everything; if you needed something or needed to know something, she was your girl. At age nine, she was already a businesswoman... and a shockingly apt one at that.

So it wasn't any surprise when one of her city's street gangs came to recruit her when she was thirteen. And since her father wasn't exactly a saint, he was perfectly happy to support the gang in their endeavors. Pansy O'Connell was still the go-to girl if you needed anything, but now, she had even more connections.

For four years, Pansy O'Connell stayed in that street gang. Then one day, she was going to give the gang's boss a report of her activities (the gang was very thorough) when she heard through the door something she hadn't expected to hear. The boss sneered at how naive she was, that she really thought she was a part of this gang, when all they wanted was her father's money. Pansy didn't know how to react; she definitely hadn't seen this coming. All the lies she'd told for these people, and they'd just been using her the entire time. For money.

When her father found out, he was furious. Pansy had never seen him this furious; perhaps it was exactly this hidden fury that had made her mother leave all those years ago. It was thanks to Mr. O'Connell that the entire gang was busted and arrested. He made it seem to the police that he'd sent Pansy as a spy, as he'd suspected someone was after his company. And they ate up every word, because he was a perfectly respectable man of money. It made Pansy sick.

Pansy O'Connell told even more lies after that. She was still the person you went to if you needed anything, but there was something strained about her, something even more alluring. No one really knows anything about her, though many have tried. Getting into WDU was a breeze compared to all the jobs she did for the street gang. It required a helluva lot of work, but someone like Pansy O'Connell can make anything happened if she puts her mind to it.

Ask her about herself, though, and you'll never get a straight answer. Hell, you'll never know if she's telling the truth about herself unless you dig too deep. Which is strongly ill-advised. She's still got some connections.

Oh, No, Not My Friend Copper. He Won't Ever Change.

Personality:
To those he first meets, Travis seems younger than he is, especially seeing as he’s more timid and jumpy than most second-year university students should be. He often hides behind his mane of hair or whatever he’s carrying with him, especially when a cute girl is involved, as he is prone to developing a crush on just about every girl he encounters. (Any girl who does not illicit this reaction… Well. Good on ya.) It is rather ironic he is prone to so many crushes, actually, because he finds it hard to open up to everyone he meets. Trust does not come easily to him, seeing as his father, who should have been trustworthy, was not at all. As such, friendship is also a strange concept to him, which is an unfortunate side effect to living in the middle of a forest.

Despite his trust issues, Travis can be very dependable, and he’s often willing to help someone in need, no matter how incapable he may think himself. Though quiet, he listens well, and what few words he does manage with others are kind and sweet. When faced with his crushes, however, he’s a nervous wreck, and very prone to embarrassing himself. Travis has resigned himself to staying unsuccessful when it comes to his crushes, so he rarely expects anything, though he tries anyway to see if perhaps he’s been wrong all this time. (So far, no go.) Still, he’s happy to be the “boy next door” or the “best friend” or the “brother figure” if it means he can make someone smile. His own smile may not be genuine, but that’s no matter. He’s afraid if he tries to be too selfish, he’ll hurt someone like his father did, and so he avoids selfish actions and thoughts if he can help it. Good thing, too, because Travis still is not quite sure what being angry is like. He hopes to never find out.

Probably the most important thing to remember about Travis is his incredible love for the natural world. He hates hunting above all else, and he’d do anything to protect nature and its animals. That is perhaps why he saved his pet fox cub, Amos—he couldn’t leave the poor thing to fend for himself! So he adopted him and brought him to WDU, if only because he knew if he didn’t, he’d regret it for the rest of his life. All animals are welcome friends to him, and they take precedence over humans every day. This also means that anyone with an animal is definitely a target for Travis’s friendship. Have a cat? Travis will find you and pet that cat and beg you to be his friend. It’s strange… but it’s also what makes Travis… Travis.

Virtues:
■ Repentant

We'll Always Be Friends Forever. Won't We?

History:
When Travis was young, his father imposed his hunting hobby upon him. Unfortunately for Mr. Hoffman, Travis absolutely hated hunting. He loved animals more than anything in the world--he played with his puppy all the time--and he abhorred the idea of killing one for sport. So what if the deer population was out of control? That's what Mother Nature was for!

Only Travis's mother sympathized with what his father called his "wimpy" behavior. She was a kindhearted woman who had long been a supporter of the WWF and other organizations that tried to help endangered animals. It was clear that Travis had gotten more of his mother's genes than his father's.

When it became clear to Mr. Hoffman that his wife and son had no intention of joining in on his hobby, he called his brother, Travis's uncle, to help. Uncle Freddy, however, had long known how forceful his brother was. Whatever help Mr. Hoffman thought Freddy could provide, it wasn't much. Mr. Hoffman was furious, and he very nearly turned to violence to get his wife, son, and now brother to bend to his whims. It was terrifying, to say the least.

One day, on one of the Hoffman's family hunting trips (the consequences of not going were worse than if they did go), Mr. Hoffman went ahead to track a fox. Travis's mother and Uncle Freddy trailed behind him while Travis himself stayed near the back of the pack. He was holding the hunting rifle, playing with the safety. Suddenly, a shot rang out, and his mother and uncle whipped around to see a wisp of smoke curling from the rifle. Travis's eyes were wide. He'd just shot a gun. How on earth had he done that? The rifle had kicked back, so he stumbled a bit before running forward to see if he'd shot anything.

He had. His father.

His father lay sprawled on the ground, blood oozing from a wound in his torso. Somehow, Travis had managed to shoot his father straight through the heart. A part of him was relieved, while the rest of him was sickened by that relief. His mother and uncle, however, did not hide their relief. Mr. Hoffman would terrorize them no longer.

When authorities investigated, Travis's mother took the blame. She'd never actually been hunting, she said. Her husband had forced her to come, she said. How was she to know how to handle a gun? They believed her, because no one in their backcountry town had ever really liked Travis's father.

Travis still sees his fathe'rs corpse every night in his nightmares. The fact that he technically murdered his father, accident or not, haunts him. His only source of happiness now is an adopted pet fox (who was caught in one of his father's abandoned traps) and his new stepfather: his uncle Freddy. His uncle makes his mother happy, and as long as his mother's happy, he is, too.

At least... that's what he tells himself.

That Was So Much More Fun Than Obliterating People!

Personality:
The short version is that Ronan’s got anger management issues. The long version is that Ronan’s been dealt an awful hand in life, and no one’s told him how to cope with it. Thanks to lifelong pressure from his father to behave, Ronan strives to misbehave, including all manner of reckless behavior, such as partying, drinking, and the occasional usage of drugs. (Depending on how drunk off his ass he is.)

Whereas before, Ronan completely ignored other people, he now pays very close attention, especially when it comes to those he considers incredibly attractive. Though he hides his anger, he’s not very good at hiding his interest in someone. For the most part, he’s an open book, except for his anger, which he tries his best to hide and suppress. His only anger release is in the form of burning things in a campfire or bonfire of his own making. Or he’ll set fire to something and throw it in a sink somewhere. His love of fire is a wee bit concerning, but as of yet, no one has sought to correct this odd behavior.

Sincerity is hard won from Ronan. He doesn’t fully trust many people, especially after his girlfriend completely abandoned him, so he’s very unlikely to be truthful or sincere with anyone he feels doesn’t deserve it.

Virtues:
■ Sincere (Mostly)
■ Restraint
■ Attentive
■ Capacity to Love
■ Tenacious

Vices:
■ Constantly Angry
■ Detached
■ Misbehavior
■ Pyromaniac
■ Unruly

Quirks:
■ Acts flamboyantly gay for no reason
■ Really, really loves fire

Habits:
■ Will shave off enough of his beard to keep it looking the same
■ Makes faces at himself in the mirror to start the day

Likes:
■ Fire
■ Attractive People
■ Flirting
■ Pretty Lies
■ Sincerity

Dislikes:
■ Drugs
■ His Father
■ Most People (So He Claims)
■ Explanations
■ The Truth

Fear:
His Anger Bubbling Over, Hurting Someone, Not Being Loved

She Just Does Whatever She Wants

History:
As suggested by the III following his name, Seamus Ronan Hilleford III was born the son of Seamus Ronan Hilleford II, a government official in Europe. Considering his status, Seamus II was not the kindest father to his impressionable son. Seamus III learned from a young age that he was expected to be on his best behavior; the public was always watching to see how the family behaved. He grew to despise the pressure his father put on him, which made him very irritable.

His raging temper was well known throughout his early school years, and so the children around him at first tried to humiliate him by causing him to snap. However, after nearly sending another kid to the hospital, they all learned better and decided they were better off trying not to piss Seamus off. Still, Seamus found he could not so easily escape his father’s pressures. It was around the beginning of junior high that he began to go by Ronan, his middle name, in order to differentiate himself from the umbrella of Seamus II.

Because of his awful temper and aloofness, Ronan was not the most social of people. He tended to keep to himself, where he was less likely to blow up like a volcano. Then, one day, a girl came up to him. She had the face of an angel and a smile to match. Ronan was almost immediately drawn to her, and in no time, they were dating. He was madly in love with her, the only person who’d ever bothered to find out what was beneath his scowl. And to her, he was someone worth knowing, and not just because of his father.

However, Seamus II wasn’t pleased. His son had no business dating some pretty schoolgirl just because she smiled at him. To avoid Seamus II’s interference, Ronan did the only thing he could think of: He ran away with girlfriend in tow.

It was pretty great, for a time. Ronan was able to bribe just about anyone into forgetting he was there, which kept his father and the media off his trail. Every night was paradise, with his girlfriend’s head on his shoulder a smile on his face. It was the happiest time he’d ever known. Ronan thought for sure he’d found his happy ending.

Of course, it didn’t last.

One morning, Ronan woke up to find that their hotel room was empty. He searched everywhere, but she was nowhere to be found. Like the wind, she had disappeared.

By the time his father’s men had caught up to him, a torrential downpour had hit, the perfect backdrop to Ronan’s utter heartbreak. They found him sitting on the steps leading to the front entrance. When he looked up, they were shocked. This boy was not the Hilleford son they had come to know.

This boy was a demon.

On Ronan’s face was a scowl so terrifying, even the toughest of his father’s men nearly wet himself. They could practically see the fire in his eyes, the pent-up rage waiting to be let out. It was almost as if Ronan had become the spirit of Wrath itself.

If they’d thought his anger management issues were bad before, they were even worse now.

From then on, Ronan was increasingly temperamental, though he was doing better to keep it hidden from others. Unfortunately, this meant that he could snap utterly at any moment. Besides his increased anger problems, Ronan also took to socializing more. Of course, it was nothing more than a change of attitude. He became a playboy, despite his father’s warnings, perhaps to spite his father. Seamus II became so fed up with his son’s behavior, he made sure he went to the United States for university. And so, Ronan came to Walt Disney University, where he could enjoy all the attractive people and no reminders of his father as much as he wanted.

Somehow, it made him more irritable to think about.

If There's So Much I Must Be, Can I Still Just Be Me... The Way I Am?

Personality:
Kamaria has a deep-seated, psychological fear of losing people. She hates the idea of her friends leaving her or her parents leaving each other, though she can only prevent one of these two scenarios. As such, she is somewhat clingy to those she considers her friends. Time spent with them is precious to her, as she never knows when those friends may tire of her, an inevitability she’s come to dread and expect. But she’ll hold on for as long as she can, because no matter her cynicism, she believes in the power of friendship.

Mari is always coming up with weird ideas. Well, really, they’re just incredibly creative. She mostly puts these ideas to use for writing, which results in some interesting concepts. This has made her quite resourceful when trying to solve a problem, whether it be social or a particularly awful math problem. Her imagination also stretches to her romantic life (or lack thereof), which often leads to her imagining less than likely situations involving a crush or someone else that she happens to find attractive.

More than anything, Mari is incredibly caring and selfless, though it sometimes comes across as more selfish. She tries to avoid rocking the boat, so she often keeps her true feelings a secret, unless something sets off one of her mood swings… then she becomes angry and won’t hide her feelings very well, or express them well, for that matter. She cares a whole heck of a lot about those close to her, and she’d do anything to make them smile and keep them happy, even if that means sacrificing the idea of her own happiness. In her eyes, others’ happiness is her happiness.

Virtues:
■ Accepting
■ Selfless
■ Devotion
■ Kindhearted
■ Creative

Vices:
■ Selfish
■ Lonely
■ Envious
■ Pessimistic
■ Moody

Quirks:
■ Very affectionate; will hug upon seeing a friend
■ Comes up with too many writing ideas but rarely implements them into anything coherent

Habits:
■ Carries around a notebook to write in
■ Twirls a certain strand of hair when she's tired until it's curlier than the rest of her hair

Likes:
■ Writing
■ Friends
■ Anime
■ Naina
■ Autumn

Dislikes:
■ Her Parents (At the Moment)
■ Exclusion
■ Cold Weather
■ Being Angry
■ Downward Spirals

Fear:
Being Alone

Our Place is With Our Pride

History:
Kamaria doesn't remember much about her childhood, but maybe that's because she has amnesia.

When Mari was in high school, she was in a car accident. According to her parents, she fell into a short coma afterwards and lost most of her memory. As far as Mari was concerned, this just meant that she'd basically lost what made her Mari, but after some time, she began to regain some of her childhood memories, though they were a bit fuzzy.

From what she can remember, she grew up in a loving household, with a mostly standard childhood. When she was young, she discerned that she wanted to spend her life writing, since she had an imagination that spouted countless ideas she couldn't wait to share with the world. And she spent a lot of time with an older girl... but she couldn't remember in what capacity.

She received her answer in the form of letters, from Naina, who called her "sister." Her parents explained that Naina was her cousin, but they were like sisters, since they'd spent so much time together as children. That made perfect sense to Mari, since she was pretty sure she didn't have a sister, though she couldn't be more wrong. In reality, her parents were her aunt and uncle, who, after her car accident, took custody of her and took her away from Naina, who was really her true and full-blooded older sister. Their birth parents had died in the same car accident, leaving both girls orphaned with only each other. Except for the fact that their aunt and uncle were now acting as Mari's parents.

Considering her mild amnesia and the time she'd spent away from school, Mari found herself isolated. To hide the strange emptiness she felt inside while at school, she began to act differently. She was over the top, often called “crazy” (in a good way) and was one of the most chipper people in her school. But what her friends didn’t know was that she was truly unhappy, miserable in fact. Not wanting to disappoint anyone, she often hid her hurt until it bubbled over and she ended up hurting her friends more than she would have to begin with.

Mari continued receiving letters from Naina, and near the end of high school, she decided she wanted to go to the same college as her. She'd started to notice that her school friends were drifting farther and farther away from her. Because of her amnesia and slowly returning memory, they weren't quite sure how to interact with her anymore, and so eventually some of them stopped talking to her. Mari began to feel alone, more so than she had the day she'd woken up from her coma to an empty hospital room. Her overwhelming affection had no one to receive it, and her vulnerability increased.

It was at this time that Mari also received the shock of her life: her parents (aunt and uncle) were getting divorced. They wouldn't tell her why, and they certainly weren't going to tell her why they'd been arguing lately. But this made Mari even sadder than she had been before. She was truly losing everything she loved, which made her feel even more insecure about the memories she couldn't for the life of her get back. At the same time, this turn of events strengthened her resolve.

Though her parents protested (the only time they'd agreed for months), she applied to Walt Disney University. There, she'd be able to study the one thing that could make her smile anymore: writing. It was her way of starting over from scratch, friends wise, but hopefully this time they'd be for keeps. And there, at least she knew she'd have one friend to rely on: Naina, her cousin, who'd never stopped reaching out.
