House Harper was either a cadet branch or a bastard branch of House Mudd. Depending on who you talk to determines the house's origins. It started with the first Harper, Gerald. A keen man with a knack for combat but also a peaceful man who loved music. It is said with his harp he could put the best bards to shame, make you feel joy and sorrow at the same time. Adding to the strange was the Valyarian steel long sword he wielded 'Siren'. Leading some to believe the House Mudd had such a blade like that at one time

How Gerald had been a key figure in the Blackwood's service that helped put down Lord Bracken and bring the Riverlands to declare for Rhaeynera and the Blacks. For this service, he was granted a piece of land along the Green Fork. Embracing the ridicule most had given Gerald for his musical inclinations and took the name of House Harper along with the sigil of a harp.

It started originally as a simple wood bridge and an elevated wooden fort. Gerald seeing how much the Frey's had been making with tolls and had followed suit, except he charged much less than the Frey's had. People started calling the bridge Harpers Gate. Even though old Gerald Harper was gone the water rushing around the stone keep sounds like a harp when the cross.

Creating a growing rift between the two houses that had boiled to a small war between the two houses after Gerald had passed away. It lasted only one battle that had been a major loss for both participants. Their Tully overlord had stepped in and put a very quick end to the violence. The war ending with Gerald's Gregory marrying the Frey Lord's daughter. Two people that couldn't loathe each other more. Bounding the two houses by blood was the only to stop both parties from squabbling.

While it didn't stop the two houses completely it did lessen the existent of them pecking at each other. Throughout history if either house could do harm subtly to the other it was done, the amount of disdain when a member of each house is present is so thick it could be cut by a knife.
