Fantasy FTK: Blue's House Curriculum (open)

A dark skinned girl slowly walked openef the door. She looked scared and suspicious of something. She looked around at everyone as though she was trying to look for someone or something. She had a hood on where you couldn't really see her face. She finally walked in and slowly went to the counter. She took the form and went and sat in the corner.

Oh, gods. If her parents had seen her now they would have been so embarrassed. She had just bruised the Faraday name because of her idiocy! She pushed her chair back, soggy robes clinging to her body. She tried to look her professor in the eye but to no avail. Instead, she cowered under her gaze. "M-Minerva Faraday." She glared at Robert, hands balling into fists. Oh, that kid was going to pay for what he'd done. Very dearly. Dingle squawked as if mocking her and danced on the sill.

The teacher’s nostrils flared. She raised a hand and absorbed the water from Min’s robe and that of the students around her. The water contorted and flew towards her. The mass of water froze in a spot beside the teacher. She let out a mad roar and attacked the water with her hands. The water turned into ice and her flurry of punches shaped the ice into a statue of Minerva.
“I’m going to remember that face. Trouble makers don’t last in my ranks... I am your homeroom teacher, Captain Samantha Shepherd, Arcane Armed Forces... just Mrs. Shepherd or Captain for brevity sake.”
The class was stuck somewhere between amazed and terrified. This was their homeroom teacher, A military official?
“Sit down, Squid. I’m tired of looking at you.” She pointed at Minerva.
The mean girl turned around and stuck her tongue out at Min.
The ice sculpture was starting to melt a little bit, but that was fine. They wouldn’t be here for long.
“I’ll be honest with you, class. This is about to be the toughest semester of your life. I wish I could say things were okay out in the world, but many of you know that it certainly isn’t. You’ve come to pledge yourself to the glory and majesty that Phoenixblood embodies on the world’s stage, and I will hold you to the highest standard possible. If you complain, argue, or step out of line... I will make your life hell. Now, I shall do role call.”

She noticed him stating at her mouth and wondered what he was looking for, maby he was noticing how her side teath looked Pontyer than most, then she realised he was probably looking for fanges, then he spoke. Lupa, burst into laughter. When she calmed again she said "for the record I've already referred to myself as an old lady so you are perfectly justified in comparing me to your grandfather. I am obligated to threaten you against eating Loki as he is like a familiar slash survice pet to me. With that said, is snake tasty? I've alwase wanted to try it but I've never had a chance..." she moved to unwrap Loki and flip him, moving him momentarily towards the boy so he could wrap up her arm and over her shoulders so his head was on the side opposite of Drevin. "Maybe we can go together sometime" she hedged.

Drevin laughed nervously. "Its a pretty tough meal, but satisfying. If we get a chance during the outdoor classes, I'll see if I can find one."

"Drevin St. Carlisle" his name was called, and it was time to go.

"Well, I guess I have to leave. It was a pleasure to meet you, Lupa." Drevin smiled at her and stood up.

From the other side of the room, a door opened.

"Lupa Hearthorn" the other attendant called. Time to go.

The attendant handed her a blue robe in her size, along with a notebook, inkpen, and map of the school.
Once she changed in the changing room, the attendant asked her to go to the nurse's office before class. Her classroom was in 310.
Up the stairs, around a corner, and down the hall, she'd find the office with her new map.
There was a line at the nurses' office. A line of pale faced students entered and exited the door at a fairly slow pace.
Some students had their hoods up, so it was hard to tell who was who.

Turning in the forms, the clerk looked everything over. "Alright, take a seat and wait for your name to be called."
The room was starting to thin out a little. More names had been called, and students were headed to their first day of class. With less people, perhaps she could rest a little easier.

((A deleted post has been restored. Please take a moment to scroll up for the next part of Minerva’s threadline))

Minerva looked down at the floor, blood rushing to her cheeks in embarrassment and shame. Should she tell Mrs. Shepherd that Robert had tricked her into doing this? She shook her head, sitting down in her seat. Obviously, her teacher was already angry with her. If she pinned Robert for the mishap, she would appear to be pushing the blame on someone else and might get hit with a worse punishment. She grimaced at the ice statue next to her desk, a statue of shame staring down at her accusingly. Her parents' angry faces echoed in her mind, disapproving frowns painting their faces. She shuddered, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. Curse her stupid pride. She had wanted to show off and look where it had gotten her! She stabbed her pen into the page, nearly ripping the paper.

Lupa joined the back of the line and waited. She wonders what this line was for, more specifically if it was just because of her dietary supplement, the 'Synthetic Blood' or because of the vamp blood in her in general. As she stood there she felt Loki shift on her shoulders, and nuzzle her cheek.

When it was her turn, a nurse asked her to take a seat.
“I’m just going to draw a little blood. You’ll feel a tiny pinch.” She said, leaning in to rub Lupa’s arm with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. After that, she stuck the needle inside and filled a small pouch. Once that was done, she got a bandaid and a lollipop for the trouble.

Robert looked her way and mouthed sorry without making noise. He felt terrible that she got yelled at about the spell. He had just wanted to impress her with his scroll crafting talent. He didn’t think she’d activate it in class.
The squid on her desk was moving around. It’s tentacles flopped onto her piece of paper while she was digging at it with her pen.
The teacher called on each student in class, though when she got to Minerva she skipped it and went on.
“Alright Blue Hats. Most of you know the score but I’ll say it anyway. You’re nobody in this school. Even those of you with alumni in your family. You are worth as much to me as those uniforms you wear. If you want that to change, you’ll do as I say. As a transmutation specialist with a minor in evocation, I am a living weapon for the Great Houses. Your success in my courses will depend upon you. Even failure is a success if you try with all your mind and body can exude. The one thing I hate more than anything is whining.”

Robert raised his hand. The teacher looked at him and pointed. “Yes?”
Robert stood up. “So, I was wondering. If you’re this great military wizard, why are you teaching?”
Someone in class gave him a shocked look, like why would you question her like that?
Shepherd stuck her nose up and frowned.
“You can blame General Blaise. He decided to keep me away from the Major ranking until I proved myself as a member of Gold House. I had no interest in teaching a room of snot nosed brats their dragon runes. This is the only way I can ascend the ranks. How does that sound, Hardy?”
Robert swallowed and sat down. “I-It sounds good, Captain Shepherd.”

Minerva had completely forgotten about the squid writhing on her paper. It snapped a tentacle onto her wrist and she let out a small yelp when it had finally made its presence known to the white-haired girl. She frowned at it, watching it struggle to breathe with the little water left clinging to its slick skin. Was she willing to cast another water spell? It honestly was a rather simple spell, something she could actually control. Pulling out her rather large pencil case, she opened the box, dumping the contents into her small bag. Then, muttering a water spell, some of the ice broke away from the statue next to her desk, melting into the container. She slid the squid into the box, praying that the water was salty enough for the small creature and closed the lid, placing it next to her desk. She wiped her hands on her robe, looking back towards the front of the classroom.

Really, this kid was an idiot. Especially when one could see that Mrs.Shepherd was a no-nonsense teacher. She mentally face-palmed at his question, though she cracked a small smile when their professor reprimanded him for his question.

Dingle had settled on the sill, sleeping lazily in the sun. Hopefully, when she got to her dorm, she could keep the bird inside.

Lupa watched in silence as the nurse pricked her arm and drew the blood. When it was over she stowed the lollypop and headed to her Home room hoping she wold not be late to atleast of she was she wold be excused. On her way to the class she got lost twice despite having the map but soon made it to her room. Before she entered she took a deep breath, ran her fingers threw her hair to try to tame the frizz, and opend the door to enter the clasroom. Hoping there was a seat open in the second row but resigned to any open seat.

((You can proceed to join class 103. I wanna go ahead and move on to the next parts. You got the same trappings that were passed out to the other students. No blood test required))

Dingle had settled on the sill, sleeping lazily in the sun. Hopefully, when she got to her dorm, she could keep the bird inside.
The professor watched the girl cast another spell to save the squid. She smirked, and her eyebrow twitched.
"Hey Squid, I'm going to make you a squad leader. Pick two students from the class and meet me and the rest outside."
She pointed a wand at the door, which glowed with white light and led to a wide field."
She was starting the day with a field exercise. What joys awaited class 103?

Lupa watched in silence as the nurse pricked her arm and drew the blood. When it was over she stowed the lollypop and headed to her Home room hoping she wold not be late to atleast of she was she wold be excused. On her way to the class she got lost twice despite having the map but soon made it to her room. Before she entered she took a deep breath, ran her fingers threw her hair to try to tame the frizz, and opend the door to enter the clasroom. Hoping there was a seat open in the second row but resigned to any open seat.

Sure enough there was an empty spot. There were only a few students sitting here. The professor was already sitting at the front of class. A woman with black hair tied in braids, and skin like a white sheet was studying each specimen who entered sight. Her piercing red eyes made her appear extreme and serious, but she was a delightful woman by most accounts. Lupa and her snake were very interesting to the professor when they entered.
"You, bring that serpent here. He's simply adorable!"

Her name was Professor Madison Doyle. That was written on the chalk board along with some hexagonal runic hieroglyphs. She was a master professor of summoning spells and illusion magic. She wore the ruby button with pride on her gold robe, which was tied around her waist. She wore black lace at all times, but these silly mens rules about uniformity wasn't her style.

Lupa walked towards the professor, relieved she wasn't in trouble. As she walked Loki looked around the room behind Lupa. "My apologies for my tardiness Professor" she said when we was close enough. Lupa then coaxed Loki from her shoulder and into her arms to show him off to the professor. " His name is Loki, like the Norse god of Mischief and Lies" she told the professor. Loki looked back and forth between Lupa and the professor as he was moved then posed as he was introduced before nodding his head at the professor and trying to slither back up Lupa's arm. Lupa gave a shy smile at her snake antics, happy he seemed to be at least comfortable with the people around them so far.

The professor cooed at the snake and held him tenderly around her hand and wrist. She looked like she might kiss him on the head, before the snake went back to Lupa’s arm. So many strange things for a snake to encounter at once. She felt his apprehension.
"You are right on time, child. I don't do much during daytime hours. I am sluggish, like a bee in a cold room. That is expected of our kind." She smiled at Lupa, showing her vampire fangs with red painted lips.
"Let me welcome you and sweet little Loki to Vampire Homeroom. All the pale ones gather together here. Think of it like a support group meeting if it helps you understand. There are strict guidelines for our kind, and one involves daily meetings. I find the class enjoyable, as I take much pride in our rich heritage and culture. The Norse men of the Far Icegales are hardy warriors, and superstitious to high heaven." It almost sounded like she knew some of these types. How old was she? Some say older than the college. She never gives an honest answer. 'Never ask a lady her age, or a man his salary' 'She'd often say.

Lupa was shocked by the greeting "I'm sorry, I must being the wrong room. I'm sorry, I could have sworn this is the right one, but it can't be, I'm not a vampire, I mean not that there is anything wrong with vampires, I have vampire blood in my family, and um, sorry I'm rambling. Could you maybe tell me where room 310 is. Like said I could have sworn this was it but obviously not." She started stifling back and forth on her feet. Loki responded by coiling tighter around her like he was trying to hug her or remind he was there.

Professor Doyle chuckled lightly. “Dear, this door only opens for those possessing the trublood. If you parents were vampires, you do belong here. Please sit and listen to my lecture. I’m sure everything will make sense in time.”

Lupa replied "I don't mean to be rude or argumentative but are you shure it only opens for true bloods because I know for a fact my Dad isn't a vampire and that my Mom isn't one eather because he wouldn't have married her if she was one. None of my immediate family show any trates of being vampires... I was just a weird fluke of genetics" as she trailed of she began moving slowly backwards town between her confusion and the urge to do what she was told. Part if Lupa was wondering, and trying to process what the professor ment by true blood and how it might apply to her.

The professor stood up and pointed at an empty chair. “Please sit and let me explain. It’s quite simple.” Once the student calmed down she started drawing on the board. The other students took to attention.
“Vampires who reproduce with other vampires make more vampires. If a vamp and a human or dhampir have a child it makes another dhampir. If two dhamps get together they can make another dhamp or a pale one. Pale ones will always make more Pale Ones until the bloodline becomes too thin. We go to great lengths to maintain records on bloodline shifts here at the college. If you have no fangs and no hunger it’s possible you are a Pale One, and a recent generation of them. You must understand that your magic will be mixed with your bloodline, so it’s important you understand where you came from and what you are. Is this starting to make sense? For whatever reason, you have trublood. That makes you family in my eyes. We are all a family in 310” she smiled to the class.

Drevin removed his hood as he entered the classroom. He smiled when he saw Lupa in class.
“Oh another one, very good. We were just discussing vampire bloodline branches.”
Drevin shrugged. “I know my lineage. I am Drevin of House Carlisle.”
”How formal” Doyle said surprised. “Always nice to have a dhampir in my class. Come and sit, Carlisle.” she gestured. Drevin sat across from Lupa.

Minerva was rather surprised at her professor's change of heart but she stood, nonetheless, glancing over the students in her class. Rose was in the back with Tommy who had begun to play underneath her desk with a small toy. Robert was next to her and looked slightly embarrassed from the earlier events. The snitch in the front was twirling a loop of blonde hair around her finger and giving her the stinkeye. Ha. She was jealous. Minerva smirked at her, pointing to Robert and Rose. Better stick to those you know, right?

"These two students, Captain."

Lupa sat down in the middle of the second row when told and crossed her legs under her desk. As she listened she did understand, and was embarrassed by her outburst. She wondered if her father had ever learnd this, she assumed not because it was so simple and obvious, went he was so set against it. Being told she was now part of a family made her feel warm, not in the embarrassed way but in the comfortable content way that was so rare in life. Loki must have sensed her change because he adjusted himself again and snuggled against her.
When Dreven enterd the room she almost grind but simply smiled instead. As he spoke to the professor, Loki lifted his head as if interested, momentarily, then layed it back down. When Dreven took the seat across from her Lupa gave him a small smile before looking back to the front of the room and silently removed Loki from her to set him back with his head facing away from Dreven. She then refocused her attention on the professor, wondering what was to come.

The professor looked upon Rose. She could see the child playing at her side.
"Rose, come forward and bring the child. How old is he?"
"S-Six. He's seven in July."
"And how old is his father?"
"A hundred and seventy in Elven. Fifty in Human years."
"Where is he?"
"Gone, off to the Feywild."
" Copy that. The boy will be under my careful watch during your blue hat training."
"Mommy, why can't I come with you?"
"It'll be dangerous sweetheart..."

While all this goes on, Robert was standing unphased besides the two of them. He was eating a bowl of soup he made from his school folder, heated water from the icicle, and discarded tentacles from the Deepwater spell.
"Man, his dad just up and left him. That's awful. If I ever find a deadbeat dad, I'll knock his ass out."
The captain pretended not to listen to them. She smiled at Robert, taking advantage this early in the game. He was talented and silent. He would be a deadly powerful mage when he gets older. If he survives, that is...
"Enough talking, move!" She marched Team 1 out into the field. The crow flew after his master into the door portal.

The meadow was full of beetles and snakes. A dirt road ahead led towards the forest passe.
"You have five hours to reach the top of Solaris Tower. Your proper training will begin then." Professor Shepherd spoke to them while standing in the door portal. She hadn't closed it yet.

Lupa sat down in the middle of the second row when told and crossed her legs under her desk. As she listened she did understand, and was embarrassed by her outburst. She then refocused her attention on the professor, wondering what was to come.
Professor Doyle approached the students and weaved through the aisles. She felt their beating hearts synching with her own. She hummed to the rhythm.
"Blood is often called the true evil of this world. They say it was cast onto the ground with such verocity that they associate their own essence with darkness. We are the darkness, my children. Your ancestors were kings and queens, and the world belonged to the dark.. Imagine, growing up a prince or princess free to do as you please? Does it not lead you into flights of fancy? Perhaps not, if you prescribe to the mortal lines of thought. Blood is your strength, and with it you may preserve your existence ende eternum. To the End of Time. What lies beyond time? Power. When you master the blood, the world serves you."
She stopped in the middle of the room and took a deep, soothing breath.
"This was a thought exercise I felt I should do for you to help you begin understanding your history. Please write your feelings out on a piece of paper. Don't worry, I am not collecting this. Write your thoughts out, and speak your mind. Those are different skills, both necessary for spellcraft."

Lupa looked down at her paper and began to write ' blood is in everything living, everything that breathes bleeds. Conscious life is identifiable by having blood. Blood is power, to control blood if to control power. My blood used to scare me a little but now I welcome it. I want to embrace my blood and relish in its power and the family it gives me. ' she then added 'is there power on family?' Then 'am I locked by vampire blood to royalty?' ' where does my vamp blood come from?'. She then put her pencil down and looked around for the 1st time at her classmates.

Looking over at Drevin, it seemed like he hadn’t written much of anything down. He sat with arms folded looking straight ahead. He felt like this was old news. His parents already filled him in on his ancestry. The vampire’s curse and the history of Dracül were stories passed down to many impressionable youth. He was bored.

Professor Doyle returned to her spot at the front of class. Once she saw enough lifted heads she started going around the room. “Tolli, would you like to speak?” She asked a young pale one at the front of class. The young man rose to his feet, showing a long braid of silver hair.
“Uhm, yes. Blood is the true evil because wars are really bad. Instead of spilling blood, vampires should not feast, and only drink blood if necessary.”
There was a boo from a student followed by laughter.
“You make valid points, Tolli.” The teacher said. “We have been hated for getting drunk on blood and violence. It’s a deserved brand of evil that we wear. These brilliant red buttons are symbols of our affliction. I believe in wearing it proudly.

Drevin spoke out. “Our people have survived countless generations of war against foes who wield sunlight as a weapon. The fact we exist at all is a statement of our superiority.”

The teacher accepted this as well, but she seemed uneasy, like she didn’t want to argue a minor point. Keeping the air free for students to converse was what she wanted.
“That’s an interesting theory. I could construct a poem from that... anyone else care to comment?”

Lupa tentititivly spoke up "blood of life, but it is also power, therefore power over blood is life. Also we all share blood making us stronger together." By her heart Loki hissed ad if in agreement. She hoped she wold not be ridiculed for saying this, she wanted her new family to like and except her. She looked at Dreven hoping to gage a reaction from him before looking at the professor.

Drevin looked across at her a little uneasy. It wasn’t what she said but the implication that several vampires would bleed themselves to cast a spell.

The professor nodded. “I see you’re thinking proactively, but I should warn you that using your own blood or that of other students for casting can result in harsh disciplinary action. Consider instead the thing that gives life, and thus power, to the blood cells? The heart and lungs.” She gestured to her own body.

When wizards converged powers into performing a spell, the effects become more more powerful, but also made the spell harder to control.
“I know you must be thinking, if you can’t draw your own blood to cast, why am I even discussing blood in this class? Well, the source can still be useful even while it’s inside you. Most spells require materials. Candles, cloth, feathers, animal bones, a large and many thing. Consider what lies within as useful a thing as your wizardly components.”

The teacher extended her palm, and a violet circle with a hexagon and circle within formed out of magical energy.
“Normal wizards are able to cast this way too, but we are not normal men and women. For us, it comes more naturally.”

The rest of class was more of an exercise of circle graphing and she let them practice forming spell circles in their palms.
