Welcome to the OOC thread, here's some information on the rp

- INFORMATION -
Overview
miniature-world.jpg

The Kingdom of Romulus has just been founded at the crossing of the rivers Aniene and Tiber, on the Capitole Hill. The Kingdom only had one major city but has lots of minor settlements around it. Romulus is the Capital of the Empire, which holds most of the troops and almost all the scientist and artisans of the empire.
The House
9329216_orig.jpg

The House of Rulers of The Kingdom of Romulus, simply called The House, is a castle that sits atop The Capitole Hill in the core of Romulus. This castle houses the ruling class of the country and this is where most of the big decisions are made. Furthermore, debates and speeches are held here by politicians who wish to address The People. The House is responsible for creating just laws, having diplomatic meetings with the rulers of other countries and meeting the basic needs of the people such as food, water, and shelter. Moreover, The House is in charge of distributing Funds gained from Taxes to The Military and The Academy, as well as spending some on Infrastructure.
The Military
Barracks_interior_concept_art.jpg

The Generals of Romulus are in charge of defending the lands as well as waging war on enemy empires. The Kingdom only has a meager 2500 active soldiers. This includes the 100 Archers and 400 Spearmen Garrisoned in the City of Romulus, the 500 more Archers and 500 Spearmen stationed around the Kingdom and the 1000 Spearmen that patrol the border. Mercenaries are available for recruitment, for a price of course.
The Academy
CyberHouseInner_Wojtala_big.jpg

The Academy of Scientists, or The Academy for short, is a gold of great minds stationed mostly in the Capital City of Romulus. The Academy boasts a whopping 1750 members, this includes 250 Mathematicians, 300 Physicists, 500 Engineers, 400 Biologists and 300 Chemists. Each section of The Academy has a certain research project or discovery that must be managed. And the more Funds a research project gets, the faster it will be completed. Aswell, sections of The Academy with more scientist will have a higher chance of having a Random Discovery occur, which will complete a research project instantly.
The People
92623fc8b548d7a0a64e9c2c0251bd64.jpg

The People are the basic citizens of Romulus, from farmers to merchants; the working class if you will. The Kingdom of Romulus has 35000 Citizens, at first. New citizens will be born every few days. The People are responsible for generating Funds for The House through Taxes.

Oh, and this is kinda the best map I could find of the area around this time
20120223-503px-Italy_400bC_en.svg.png

Note, Various Italic peoples will mostly likely have to be made sperate tribes

Also Ghost Toast Ghost Toast thanks for the map, I'll def use it but I think we're going to go in a more fantasy direction, like dragons and stuff. Just so that this isn't a lame old party with Barbarians invading and all that.
In other words...

Name of General: Maximus Decimus Meridius III
Gender: Sir
Family: (I'll update this accordingly once other CS are made. So let me know if you want to be family ;))
Father - Maximus Decimus Meridius II
Mother - Lucilla
Wife - Aglaia Augusta
Father-in-law - Maxium Augusta
Mother-in-law - Livia Augusta
Personality: A quiet, reserved and efficient strategist, Maximus possesses a brilliant mind and prefers to stay back to see the full scope of battle and send commands accordingly by way of eagles. His detractors accuse him of being a coward, but one must not mistake strategy for weakness, Maximus does not fight any battle he feels he cannot win. While this makes him unpopular to the common bystander, he has the full confidence of his troops and the added bonus of vast family connections back in Rome. He also loves pineapple on his pizza, so if you don't like that you can try telling him that yourself, given that you can get past his men first. He is considered more of an career officer than a pure soldier, he has shown an aptitude for politics and considers the military a mere stepping stone towards greater achievements.
Bonus Units: (Choose between a bonus troop of 1000 Spearmen or 500 Archers)
A renowned archer himself, Maximus's private guard consists of 500 elite archers, about 300 of which are mounted. These men are the cream of the crop, and loyal until death towards Maximus only. When not in battle, these men serve as the personal guards of Maximus, in addition to being his eyes and ears in other affairs. Appearance-wise, they can only be distinguished from the common soldier by a mark located on the inside of their left foot, as every effort to conceal their identity is taken.

The man is an agressive expansionist with a brilliant tactical. He is a family man, wanting to make sure his family is satisfied and remains in power. He is also a cunning man and a very charasmatic one at that

Ideology:
His ideology is simple: Captialist expansion. Basically, he supports captialism, seeing it as a way for the poor in the city to get back on there feet. Nice character, but I have a small suggestion. My character is already mainly strategical so it would make more sense for you to be more focused towards combat. That way we can sort of organize a clash of personality between them, making the RP more exciting.

That's what tactical means buddy, it means that your more up front in the fight while still giving commands. Being a strategic leader is like in your description of being in the back and giving orders down in a chain of command. This character is already set to clash along your character due to us handling our armies differently.

I'm not your buddy, bro. ;) They are still quite similar, in my own words I would say strategy is looking at the bigger scope, while tactics are plans for a battle, that is what I meant my character to be. Also your line "Tho many would see this as cowardice, he see's it as an opportunity to better prepare for the next battle." is shockingly similar to my "His detractors accuse him of being a coward, but one must not mistake strategy for weakness, Maximus does not fight any battle he feels he cannot win." I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but it did give off a very similar vibe. I was sort of hoping that it would be strategy/tactics versus combat skill alone, but it is your character after all so you can do whatever you want. It was only a suggestion, I hope you see there was nothing personal about it.

Yeah the similarities were coincidence which I will change in a bit, however I still believe that being tactical and strategical are different. First off being strategic is not just looking at a bigger scope its also part of planning. Being strategic is doing the right thing while a tactician is doing things right you either fill in the plan to someone or you personally put the plan into action. For example Hannibal is a high shining example of being a tactician who involves himself up close in battle in order to give orders quickly and efficiently which nowadays not many generals would do. Traditional Generals prefer to stay in the back and relay their orders down the chain of command, receiving information on how battles are going or watching from afar and sending out messengers and whatnot. Both of course have there goods and bad, also as far as I know your CS states that your character prefers to stay in the back while mine prefers to be up front alongside his troops. Tho I'm not sure why your character would be called a coward considering many historical Roman politicians who were appointed as generals have stayed behind their line of troops which I don't see why it would be seen as cowardice as long as they are in the presence of their men and relaying orders. Retreating your army because you feel that you are not ready or strong to face your foe is seen in this age as a huge disgrace. Anyways enough of my squabble, My point is I'll try to shake it up a bit in wording or change/add a bit more.

Name: Gaius Marcius Rufus, Marcius the Elder

Gender: Male

Family:
  • Gaius Marcius Rufus, Marcius the Elder - Tullia Cinna
    • Son: Gaius Marcius Rufus, Marcius the Younger - Lucretia Servia
      • Grandson: Gaius Marcius Rufus, Marcius the Youngest
      • Grandson: Tiberius Marcius Rufus
      • Granddaughter: Tullia Marcia
    • Daughter: Cornelia Marcia - Titus Horatius Tiber
      • Granddaughter: Julia Horatia
      • Grandson: Titus Horatius Tiber
      • Grandson: Publius Horatius Tiber
      • Granddaughter: Marcia Horatia
    • Son: Lucius Marcius Rufus
      • Grandson: Gnaeus Marcius Rufus

Personality: Tentatively expansionist, though aware of the necessity of strong allies and smooth domestic relations, Marcius the Elder is an old veteran of war and is well aware of the hardships that it brings. He is ruthless and stubborn to a fault, though also fairly elitist which clashes slightly with his political stances on several matters, though separating person and politician is something that he is particularly good at. Marcius the Elder is fairly nepotistic and favours family when giving out positions of influence.

Ideology: In support of a flexible social structure in which any man willing to give more in aid of the republic should receive more from the republic in turn, Marcius Rufus is a strong believer in large business and its effects on increasing the general prosperity of the nation, even if that prosperity is not felt by all those within it. His personal philosophy is that wealth is a privilege rather than a right and should be earned instead of given away equally by the state. Those that earn more, give more and in turn receive more, creating an upper class of only those willing to support their nation.

Taxes: Scaled depending on social standing

Campaign Promise(s):
Create a senate controlled social hierarchy in which the poorest pay less tax yet receive fewer rights whereas the richest pay more tax and receive greater privileges from the state.

Create a more clearly structured government, containing official mandates responsible for different tasks.

Sorry guys, I went out last night and got wasted beyond compare, which is bad cuz I had to go to work today. Anyways I'll have the IC Thread up shortly.
Thanks for all the support!

S Shabazz I'm liking the start :D, so how should we respond? Do we decide on an response and then let you put it into writing or do we narrate our perspective of events and the response? This is the first RP I've joined that actually started, so I am not sure how to proceed. Perhaps I will just wait and see what other people do.
Lol, yeah just respond in character.

Name of General: Marcus Lorelius
Gender: Attack Helicopter of the fourth dimension (Male)
Age: 32
Family:
A family born in the middle class, they tend to the farms near Rome living in a small but comfortable home for a farmer.

Ordered from oldest to youngest:
Wife- Augusta Lorelius (29 years old)
Daughter- Marcella Lorelius (24 years old)
Son- Leonidas Lorelius (22 years of age)
Personality:
A soldier at heart, he became quickly a leader amongst his until under Rome. In the campaigns to secure Rome's borders, he rose in popularity for his on field prowess in battle and quick witted thinking. Having often a rash and hit headed personality, he cares more for victory and less so the cost. Marcus's abilities have led him to a position besides Maximus ( ViciousVip3R ViciousVip3R ) as a general and subordinate in his army.

Despite his position he is inept in politics, caring more for the survival of the country rather than petty quarrels of feeble old men. Still, there are some he respects and others less so. On the field, his palette is often diverse due to his old taste for scraps and rations mixed with the dining of one in his position. Under no circumstances however will he eat pineapple on top of pizza, calling it an abomination to all food.
Bonus Units:
Specializing in the Frontline and starting his career amongst the common soldiers, he leads a personal unit of 700 spearmen for personal usage.

P.S, anyone else feel we should add a backstory to our characters? Or how old anybody is?

S Shabazz So everyone has pretty much finished replying to your first post, with the exception of the politicians who will continue to banter back and forth. Do we just continue to react to what others do or will you release a second post outlining the new developments?

There, I did it. Btw, science people, you guys are trying to discover GRAVITY and HELIOCENTRISM. I applaud you for really putting yourself in the shoes of a citizen of the ancient world who has been taught about a flat earth their entire life.
ALSO, someone MIGHT die in the next couple of posts, so if it's your character you can just take control of one of their siblings/spouse/heirs and go from there.
