Futuristic Freelancer Legends

I didn't have time last night to do anything, but I should have plenty of time once my shift is done tonight.

All good!

No rush man. Real life, Work, and mental health all come before the RP :D (plus many other things not listed lol)

Yup, previously made plans to play game switch friends is why I didn't make progress with this last night. Plus it gave me time to install more stuff for extra options when making the image

Adjutant/Combat Unit / Neutral / 175.32 cm / 124.2 kg
Overview
Sabine is an Adjutant/Combat android developed by the Stallion Robotics Corporation. Currently, under the ownership of Captain Thomas Jenkins, and with a short attention span to boot. She usually has a warm smile on her face, but her actions and speech display a lack of empathy for others. Perhaps her true nature is that of an arrogant person. However, those that have seen her work know that despite her cheery facade, she has the ability to back up her arrogance.

Though typically cheeky in behavior, Sabine's personality shifts drastically when combat intensifies. Switching from a usually cheery persona to a cold merciless alternative during combat. Although quite elusive, when an order is given she will be there to ensure its completion.
Background
Created by the Stallion Robotics Corporation as part of a custom order. Sabine was planned to be the personal droid of Alexander Kutuzov, a Fleet Commander serving the United Earth Space Command who had previously come under fire for verbally abusing his last assistant and causing many of his inner circle to leave him. As a result, leaving him in need of a new assistant but with no one especially eager to serve him. To solve the solution, he ordered an android as a replacement instead of a human. Sending specific requirements which needed to be met, and billing him quite a bit in the process which he promptly differed to the UESC. However, by the time the UESC realized what exactly had happened, the android had already been completed, the bill had already been paid, and Kutuzov had already been discharged after an account of treason weeks earlier leaving the UESC Treasury to sort the mess he left behind. So, left with a random android and a sizable sum of money unaccounted for, the Treasury began damage control. Making their first action, to find a way to dispose of the android in a way where the public wouldn't complain about a waste of tax dollars, and the Treasury wouldn't have to deal with mobs of people complaining about it. So, they decided to simply play it off as a gift. While still a very expensive gift, at least a gift to a very important person. Who in the public's eyes, was a hero for protecting their loved ones, and a hero to the UESC Treasury for helping them avoid paying for more life insurance claims.
Combat Arsenal & Abilities
Anatomy – Located in the unit's head are two primary pairs of photoreceptors with the ability for infrared sight along with a Fire Control Center, capable of managing targets and data regarding long-range combat. The droid's primary Artificial Intelligence is stored within a Neural Cloud, acting similar to a human brain. The Neural Cloud is in charge of storing memories, collected data, and the unit's personality matrix among other things. The unit also boasts a number of audio and radio receptors capable of picking up information normal humans would not be able to detect such as energy readings and radio waves. The Unit also has a number of features that serve no particular benefit, such as the ability to taste and the ability to smell. The Unit's voice is produced via a voice module located inside the head, designed to mimic vocal cords and to produce a clear understandable sound.

On the unit's upper back sits a connection port, compatible with nearly all forms of technology and is used to interface with technology-related activities that require direct connection as opposed to a wireless connection which can be achieved via a series of transmitters in the unit's palms. Using a direct connection, however, leaves the android more susceptible to malware and other related attacks.

The unit's flexible reinforced frame or skeleton allows for it to withstand blunt impacts and attacks with ease and allows for quite the force when attacking via hand-to-hand combat. Similar to a human, the android has a series of artificial muscles over the frame allowing for more precise movements and even more strength when combined with the frame, more than enough to severely damage an unsuited human. On top of the muscles sits a layer of synthetic skin, which while smooth, is constructed out of an extremely material with enough resilience to be able to be compared to some light armor.

The unit is powered by a series of power banks primarily charged through means of Direct Connection via the connection port on its back. In case of emergencies, a backup power bank is almost always available however not as large nor efficient as the main power banks. If left in an area with no means to charge via Direct Connection, the unit may also use solar energy and even organic food in some cases though extremely inefficient. The android is also equipped with a human behavior emulator as a way of self-preservation, allowing it to feel pain although it can be deactivated. The unit can also mimic biological functions such as sneezing which may also be disabled. Breathing, however, is usually required as it is the unit's way of cooling its internals and regulating an internal temperature. Heavy breathing may be caused if excess heat is detected, however, if in a cool enough area or without exertion, breathing is not strictly required.

For minor repairs, the unit fields a small unit of nanobots capable of repairing cosmetic and skin damage. For more serious damage, standard repairs are needed via external tools such as damage to the head or severe damage to the chest.

Advanced Functions

Electronic Warfare - The Unit fields an advanced Electronic Warfare Module as part of its cranial module, capable of rapid database hacking, infiltration, and even the temporary subjugation of unmanned electronics in certain scenarios.

Binding - When paired to certain equipment which contains electronic components, particularly those which have been modified to output data or include some form of smart technology or AI. However, when trying to access hostile electronics or breach firewalls. The unit enters a sleep-like mode in which until the process is ended or completed, it is unable to utilize its motor functions effectively leaving it exposed.

Advanced-Data Receptors - While the unit does have a pair of preceptors located within its eyes, the primary source of data however comes from a number of sensors placed around the body of the unit used to collect data before being compiled and sent to its artificial intelligence for sorting and analyzation. This comes with the added benefit of being able to monitor the surroundings of the unit without having to use its photoreceptors and reduce the amount of stress on its hardware often causing it to close its "Eyelids" while not in combat in order to improve general performance and to allocate more resources to other functions and to avoid an overload of data. During combat, however, the unit's photoreceptors are automatically activated in order to allow for further data collection. In return, the unit disables its personality module allowing it to reduce stress on itself and letting it simply function as a purely logic-driven machine.

Personal Loadout

Автомат Калашникова - 207 – An automatic rifle platform utilizing a single-stage electromagnetic barrel to increase bullet velocity and reduce similar to a railgun. Originally produced for the United Earth Space Command Shock Trooper divisions. While effective, the rifle was reported to have a number of drawbacks, most notably becoming too hot to handle and causing burns on the user's hand, and being far too heavy for a Shock Trooper rifle, making it harder to move and position. However, the rifle does contain an extensive smart data feedback system.

BIRETTA UD-OTS - A caseless semi-automatic pistol designed for close-quarters combat. With an integrated silencer and smart weapon system, the pistol is a fairly standard issue though with quite a noticeable recoil.

Бопох-3 - A standard issue combat knife used for close quarters combat.

Complementary Equipment – While donning no Exo-Armor, the unit does keep some light armor and tactical equipment consisting of a Jacket, an accessory body belt, and a cloak. Along with a combat mask which it occasionally wears and some ammo pouches located on its legs.

Freelancer Application Packet
Full Name: Adam Davidson

Alias: Bones

Age: 33

Height: 5 foot 7 inches

Weight: 185 lbs

Personal Loadout and Exo-Armor: Bones uses a Spartan Exo-Armor that has been somewhat modified. Visually it looks almost identical to the V3 of the Spartan design, normally painted with the appropriate camo for the terrain and a red crossbones on the left shoulder pauldron. The head faceplate has been replaced with one that sports additional sensors, making it look like the Spartan has six eyes scattered across it's face. An additional laser based range finder and target acquisition unit has been bolted onto the right side of the head as a backup.

A thicker torso and reinforced legs betray the unit's upgrade with a M.U.L.E. package to allow the use of heavier shoulder mounted equipment, though currently only a smaller missile launcher sits on the left shoulder. Of note the arms were not reinforced as Bones did not want to change their performance parameters.

Target Acquisition Gear: The sensor array on the Spartan was modified so that it could better acquire improved targeting information to more precisely direct fire support from friendly units than would normally be possible. However, to relay this targeting information beyond the local area Bones will need support from either another Freelancer with enhanced communications gear or a series of communication relays. To be a spotter for guided munitions being used against moving targets he must maintain line of sight to allow for real-time updates of targeting information, which at times could make him a tempting target for enemy forces. An additional downside is that tuning the sensors for this kind of work has reduced their effectiveness at closer ranges.

M.U.L.E.: This upgrade has allowed Bones to equip a 4-tube missile launcher onto the left shoulder of the Spartan. Ammo capacity is limited, only allowing for a trio of salvos, but the missiles do benefit from his sensor modifications and are thus more accurate than normal so long he maintains line of sight to the target.

Rifle: Other than having a preference for rifles tuned for shooting targets at medium range, Bones largely does not care what make or model he ends up using and will frequently change what he is using to better suit the needs of the mission and his team.

Forearm Blade: An incredibly sharp blade that is normally retracted inside a sheath mounted on the left forearm. His backup weapon for when things go badly or something manages to sneak up on him.

Sidearm: When on duty but not in his Exo-Armor, Bones normally carries a 9mm handgun for protection.

Specialties
Medical Imaging: Prior to learning how to use Exo-Armor Bones used to be an imaging technologist for a hospital and is familiar with a variety of imaging modalities, though he specializes in x-ray based equipment including DXA (bone density) and fluoroscopy equipment. While he does not have the training needed to fill the role of team medic, he is capable of assisting a medic as needed. It was because of this skill set that he ended up with the nickname ‘Bones’.

Target Spotter: Bones has plenty of experience with directing fire support and knows that sometimes means sticking your head out while under fire for a longer duration than you feel comfortable with.

Physical Description: Black hair kept in a buzzcut and face is clean shaven, athletic, prefers simple and comfortable clothing and as such frequently just wear scrub pants with a t-shirt when not on duty
View attachment 1008734

Behavioral Description: Normally has a good bedside manner with patients and is usually amused by how often they get directions backwards (especially with turning left vs right), enjoys board games and reading books, values punctuality, while he can appreciate moments to relax alone he does have a preference for group recreational activities and is a team player on the field

Background: Born on the mostly oceanic world of Poseidon, Adam has a pretty average life. While it wasn’t the wealthiest world by any stretch of the imagination, his job at one of the larger hospitals allowed him to live comfortably, but it wouldn’t last. Unrest over the world’s poor economic status eventually erupted into multiple riots across the planet. The local militia attempted to gain control over the situation but instead the violence grew worse and soon turned into outright combat. Unfortunately for Adam that included his hospital when it was raided for medical supplies and several of his friends and co-workers were killed in the process. Wanting to put an end to the end of the fighting before anyone else he knew was killed.

Enlisting in the militia he was given a crash course in Exo-Armor training before being given one of the cobbled-together Armors that the militia had and thrown into the fighting along with the other new recruits. Adam wasn’t sure how he managed to survive the fighting, but in the end the militia was able to regain control, at least for the time being. However the planet’s economy had suffered even more from the fighting, and in particular with the damage to his hospital, Adam found himself out of a job with little to no prospects for new employment any time soon. He could have stayed with the militia, but just as many people blamed them for the damage as they did the insurgents.

Not liking his prospects, he reluctantly decided it was time to leave home and the easiest way to do that was to sell his skills to Freelancer units. Not having a Exo-Armor he personally owned he could only sell his medical skill until he found a unit that was willing to provide him with an Armor he could use during his time in the unit. Eventually Adam was able to save up enough money to buy his own personal Spartan years later, giving him the opportunity to strike out on his own or join another unit. After he saved up some money to modify his Spartan a bit he decided to go for the latter option, signing up for an opportunity to join a new crew that was forming.

YsFanatic, Adam is cleared for the character tab.

Thank you for the face claim

Clan Ize, Sorry for the late response. Im not sure if Ive cleared Sabine yet but she is good to go.

Attention everyone.

I'm sorry for my absence. I'm coming up on a promotion and it has eaten up a lot of my time.

This weekend we will have the first post up.

After that it is free game for replies.

Please keep in mind. Do not double post.

There will be one post per person until everyone has replied. Then we will restart the process.

There is no specific order. It is first come first serve.

Do not control other peoples characters without their permission.

If two players are interacting heavily in conversation or something along those lines, co-written posts are encouraged. Start a Google doc and work on it together. This will count as both characters posts.

I hope you are all still here and looking forward to starting!

so like.... are there aliens in this universe? As in, playable aliens? Or are we limited to just being human? Also, is this still open for new players?

There are aliens. Most are non-sentient.

There is a link to the OOC which has more information on pages 1 and 3.

It isn't feasible to play as a sentient alien due to their disposition.

Unless you're playing as an antagonist which I've never really tried before. You would be playing basically your own game that might possibly run into the one that the group is playing.

Again I don't think it's feasible.

The group is open however. Feel free to submit a character whenever you'd like :) please post them here so I may approve/request edits before you move them to our character tab

Hmm... mostly, I just saw info on exo-armor. Which gave me a sort of Mecha/Battletech vibe. Which I'm not very into, tbh

probably not. And although I've played antagonists before, that wasn't my intent here.

I won't likely make one. But thank you for your attention to my queries, regardless.

Have a good day.

Clearly you didn't read much into this post at all before you stated your interest.

I'm not sure what exactly you were hoping to get out of this RP.

Not everyone has to have an Exo-Armor. If you can create a useful character that doesn't use them, by all means please do so.

This RP is about humanities fall from a brief golden age due to a vicious and powerful species of sentient life who is dead set on wiping us out.

Don't feel like I'm trying to turn you away, I would very much like for you to stay and join us.

That being said, if you still believe this RP isn't something you're interested in after all, I'm not going to ask you to stay.

Whether you stay or leave I highly recommend reading through all the Freelancer Legends threads and catching up on all the lore released at this point. That may influence your decision.

I'm mostly just trying to find a space opera group where I can play as an alien. i have some human OCs, but they aren't appropriate for this site and tbh, I've already made too much lore behind them to be able to integrate them into anything more than a generic space sci-fi setting (also includes aliens, btw). The aliens OCs are more easily insertable. But the setting would need to allow (friendly) alien OCs.

There isn't usually much on this site (or many RP sites) in the vein of Spacey sci-fi. So I figured I'd ask, just in case.

Opera. Like singing? Or like the shitty reality TV you see in mom and pop Mexican shops?

Regardless I can't fathom a friendly alien being easier to Integrate than a normal human. Unless you're the GM and the aliens are your creation and you know exactly how they behave.

Either way. You seem dead set on leaving without doing any more research so I won't hold you here any longer.

Take it easy, we'll be here if you change your mind.

I mean... you aren't familiar with the term space opera? it's even a tag here for posts on the site.
I thought that was common knowledge, sorry

I was hoping to use this OC, with slight augmentation so I could fit her in the setting and obviously modify her to whatver template y'all are using for the CS. But still keep the overall idea.

I had absolutely no idea that was a thing lmao.

Yeah no futuristic chivalric romance here. Sorry.

Unfortunately, I don't see any way we can fit a.... literal fantasy goblin... in this roleplay under the guise of being an alien.

If you were to use that base character, make them human, and tweak some things you'd be golden. An Exo-Armor mechanic would be a cool thing to see honestly.

That exact definition should be taken with a grain of salt, as a lot of things fall under the Space Opera umbrella. Star Wars for instance, is very much a Space Opera.

I mean, Warcraft Orcs are literally aliens (at least, the OG ones were, I have no idea about WoW stuff). They come through a portal from another world.

And to quote Arthur C. Clarke: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
(Please tell me you have at least heard of Arthur C. Clarke)

If you were to use that base character, make them human, and tweak some things you'd be golden. An Exo-Armor mechanic would be a cool thing to see honestly.
Making them human undermines the entire premise of the character, though. "Gifted mechanic" isn't a base character. It's a trope or archetype, at best.

Anyhow, I honestly didn't think my chances were good even before my initial comment. I stated as much early on.
Like I said: it's just that spacey, sci-fi group RPs are very rare.
So whenever I see one (that isn't dead-set on being a Nation RP or otherwise has the characters be from some kind of military background, or federated Star Trek mimicry, etc.) I feel like I owe it to myself to at least ask if some of my characters could work.

Like, I DO have some human characters. But they are space pirates, or smugglers, and generally more of an antagonistic "villain" type. Which works great if the narrative is one where the crew are space pirates or whatever (not every RP has to be about the players being the "good guys"). But if it isn't, then these characters are automatically at odds with everyone else. And like you said, I'd basically be on my own. In which case, what's the point?

I was pretty much just looking for a simple yes or no answer.
Can I be an alien? yes, or no.
And the answer is no, right?
And that's fine. No harm, no foul. I just wanted to know if it was a possibility.

This seems possibly interesting if it’s still open

This RP is still accepting applications.

Please read through all the lore that's been released up to this point.

Yes. The answer is no.

It seems like, by your definition, any sort of entertainment media which takes place in space is a spare opera.

Yeah orcs from 40k are also aliens. But orcs and goblins and so on are primarily and widely regarded as fantasy creatures.

I haven't heard of him, but that quote sounds incredibly uneducated. Sure welding looks like magic to a caveman.

I don't see how making the character human undermines it. You can literally still have the same shitty attitude and poor decision making as the goblin. Your whole caste within a clan within a tribe thing can be the way a colony planet developed after they experienced a cataclysmic event restarting them in the stone age. We actually have a character who is from an advanced primal hunting world who comes from one of seven clans. I can see it working.

You could tweak a character to fit. Or you could make an entirely new one. But it's clear you don't want to put in the effort.

It's best to just not participate.

Thanks for stopping by regardless. Sorry I can't make your character work.
