The sky was cloudy and the air had a nip of cold air as Spring worked to chase away Winter. The sun was directly overhead as a nearby clock tower struck twelve. The recently graduated class, Class 34 was found in the Training Yard just outside of the Gaze Guild building. Standing in front of the group were two Officers. One has stark white hair and pink eyes holding an unlabeled bag of chips. The other has dark hair, and a scar on his resting bitch face.

“Class 34! Thank you for gathering today on this chilly morning. There’s a few orders of business we want to discuss before letting you on your merry way. I’m Sang-hun Hak and I’m the Senior Training Officer. I’ll be taking over your training moving forward. Hope you didn’t that was it–”

“GOOD MORNING BABY GAZERS”

A woman came over to the makeshift circle of people that was familiar enough to place but who had never needed to interact yet with the young graduates. Her hair and hands seemed to fade into actual flames that made it hard to see where the limb ended and fire began.

“Sang you’re done right?- Well if you weren’t you are now!”

She brought out a rolled parchment from her bag that lay across her lower back in a drum-like shape.

“It’s time for baby’s first mission! Don’t worry we aren’t throwing you to the wolves yet, butttt you can’t say no to this one.”

With a nod to the two other officers, she snapped her fingers calling the flames to her fingertips. Soon the flame took the image of a Satpine.

“Memorize it, cause your first mission is to clear out a particularly nasty patch of the local Satpine population. While we usually have this as an open opportunity for any bored Gazers recently they’ve been actually getting into Askrvior. Which I feel I don’t need to explain all the ways that could potentially go wrong.”

She paused for a second to let them get their emotions and potential gripes out. Naturally, she hadn’t listened but it was better to give them a moment than to get interrupted.

“It’s not a particularly difficult mission and some of our Senior Officers could clear it in an afternoon. Don’t get me wrong they’re going to clear any from the city, especially when ignoring a problem leads to infestations, but that’s not a good use of Branch Leader time. So it’s time to kill two birds with one stone and get your sea legs going.”

With a shrug, she pulled the bag around her to grasp some more rolled papers tossing four into the group.

“CATCH. whoops. Ay, you got it! Okay so now to pass it over to our dear Branch Leader Yunnie!”

The dark-haired man took a step forwards with an annoyed sigh at the introduction. While he had already taken the chance to know his new graduating class he still wanted to have a fairly serious introduction to them.

“Okay first, to clear things up, my official title and actual name are Senior Officer Yun-Seo Hak. Yes, I lead the Branch you have all become a part of but I fully expect you show proper deference to any senior officer.”

He made a clear show of analyzing the class. He was already making mental notes of which clusters would make decent squads for the mission but half the test would be seeing how they operate. If they got the hint from them not all receiving a missions detailing then their primary training would have gone well.

“As Officer Hanuel explained this is a required mission. Most will not be ones you have to accept. First and foremost you are voluntary but when a threat breaches the walls of our city it becomes every Gazers problem.”

He made a nod to Sang showing he had said his piece. He may run the branch but he wasn’t going to be their direct report.

Sang-hun finished swallowing the chip he was nibbling on quietly before speaking, “Go get prepared. Feel free to stick around and ask questions if you need to. Meet back here tomorrow at the allotted time.”

"Get yer damn ass outta bed!" came the voice of Gosu as he stamped his way down the corridor of the hot springs living quarter's, the large red colored Oni holding a large kiseru pipe in one hand, whilst the other was busily scratching away at his chest; clawed fingers intertwining with the ghostly white hair that adorned his chest. "You better not av fer gotten what today is... I've been generous enough to giv ya the day off for yer damn graduation!" he continued, turning a corner towards the room he was presently letting Nyx stay in. Truth be told, today wasn't expected to be that busy anyway and he just needed any and all opportunity to make Nyx feel somewhat guilty in order to try force his hand into complying with his business request.

Turning another corner, the large 7ft Oni would clasp the door frame of Nyx's room; pulling it open in one swift movement; his mouth opening as he prepared to chastise the younger Oni for being tardy; yet no sound would leave his mouth as his expression turned to disappointment. Nyx had already left. His role as the wannabe doting yet distant step-father figure being cut off short.

"Sheesh... that boy could av least let me know..." he sighed, slamming the door shut before turning around and heading back to the main area. "Karna Darlin~!, prepare the hot bath and bring me one of them bottles of ale., ya know.. the one we got from Rio's Tavern!" he yelled, placing the kiseru pipe back to his mouth and taking a deep inhale.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Standing in the training yard Nyx found himself towards the front of the gathered group though it wasn't by choice rather he was here more for necessity. Leaning towards the smaller scale, Nyx had had to come to the painful acceptance that the world simply wasn't fair. A sigh would escape his mouth as he dared not look at the two walking skyscrapers behind him, his attention fully centered towards the Senior training officer, Sang-Hun Hak as he began his introduction; though before it could really warrant being labeled as such the arrival of another would turn the 'energy' a full 360.
While Sang-Hun seemed more professional, this lady seemed the complete opposite. Full of energy yet exuding an aura of fiery recklessness. The fiery attributes to her hands and hair did help aide with this general first impression that Nyx had gained. She didn't really seem like the type of officer that Nyx could really deal with, personality wise. Though her quickness in getting to the point of their mission was appreciated. Nyx was never one for crowds, so being gathered here with everyone was a tad too uncomfortable for him; especially a particular few whom for one reason or another, Nyx simply found hard to be with.
Watching the female instructor work her magic into the shape of the Satpine vermin, Nyx would vagely recall seeing this species of monsters out in the wild, a common vermin and one that didn't seem to pose much of a problem alone. Though a pack of them... well that was a different story.
As the pamphlets were handed out, Nyx having missed the opportunity to grab one of the four, was already quick on the uptake. If suspicious were correct, they were to break into teams of four in order to handle the Satpines. Almost immediately upon that realisation, Nyx began to feel pessimistic. He hadn't really gone out of his way to form strong relationships with the others of their graduating class nor had he hidden the fact that he still held some reservations towards a decent portion of their class for one reason or another.
As each of the limited pamphlets were grasped, Nyx turned his attention away from the upcoming problem and towards the 3rd member of the group of instructors, the man introducing himself as Yun-Seo Hak as opposed to 'Yunnie' as the fire clad woman had done. Exuding an air of authority, more so than the other two; it was immediately believable that he was the leader of this particular branch of the Gazer guilds.
Listening attentively to Yun-Seo's introduction, it was only after he opened the ground for questions on behalf of Sang-Hun, that Nyx finally stepped forward. "Are there any requirements to how the teams are formed and will we be assigned to different area's?" he asked, his voice relatively low, yet sharp and straight to the point.
Karv Corvus
Werekin-Bear
Karv had been day dreaming for the last several minutes, focusing half on what was being said and half on what he was going to eat in just a few minutes. He had positioned himself at the back of the grouping, knowing that his height would be a difficulty for the rather vertically challenged members of the graduating class. His mind snapped back at the mention of their task. He hadn’t considered the creatures in question to be a task worthy of his time, but considering he didn’t have a choice he just wished they were edible. There was nothing quite like hunting and eating what you could.
Audibly grunting in dissatisfaction at his internal strife he began to consider the options he had on how to expedite the hunting of the tiny pests. He had pondered the use of explosives but the realization that these creatures were likely to exist among buildings hit him. He then thought about a flame thrower, something that would roll off and not stick but that would defeat the purpose. He wasn’t used to dealing with smaller monsters, especially ones as tiny as a saltpines.
Rolling his shoulders Karv looked at the group around him before his eyes went back to the speaker. “Saltpines… how I wish those things were edible. I feel more people would be interested in dealing with them if they could be useful post expiration.” Karv spoke up absentmindedly. His eyes took a deep and longing glance at the small box at his side, bundled up and emanating a slightly colder temperature. Eyes darting up as he felt something pass a threshold near him he darted one of his arms up, snagging a scroll out of the air. Listening as the senior officer spoke Karv nodded along. After Hak finished Karv opened his mouth to speak but was beaten by Nyx who asked a rather decent question.
Waiting to hear the question Karv took a few steps away from the group and towards a corner of the yard. Shifting into his bear form, his height increased to 9 feet, his clothes stretching by design to fit his larger frame. Fumbling with the cold box he opened it up and took out his after training meal. Holding the chicken in his hands he looked around before turning away from the others and casually tossing the chicken into his open mouth. Powerful jaws clamped down, audibly crushing the chicken with a ‘crunch’. Chewing it he turned around to rejoin the group, shutting the cold box and continuing to chew as he listened to the others' questions. Swallowing it down he finally added his own question to the mix “Do we expect any sort of… normal people presence? Do we need to use subtlety or can we make noise?” he asked, forming the words rather easily even in his shifted form.
    THUD. THUD. THUD.
    Whoopsie. She yanked her naginata free from the doorframe of her inn room as she rushed out to hit the fields. She was expected to report in at noonish? She thought so anyways, but with how much excitement she had from graduating the day before she’d hardly got a wink of sleep in. It’d be a little too much to run there at eight in the morning but there were plenty of open spaces in town.
    “BEHIND.”
    She darted to the right just in time to avoid a collision with another patron. She gave them a wave and an apology as she continued on her way out spinning on her high heeled boots. She jumped over obstacles as she arrived onto the open field in a nearby park. After she unstrapped the naginata from her shoulder she twirled the shaft in the palm of hand getting a feel for the weight once again.
    Fwoosh Fwoosh.
    Her quick thrusts forwards cut the air in front of her with enough force to hear audibly. As she pulled it back the blade swooped back with grace as she moved into the space it once occupied starting a routine that was more dance than training. She might have her style focus more on her wereform but neglecting her weaponry was a one way ticket to disaster. Plus she was so much cuter in her unshifted form, it’d be much easier to win her prince’s eye with cute clothes and a soft smile.
    The chime of bells brought her back out of her head as she heard the strike of eleven. Had she really been out here three hours? She started to rush over to the guild hoping to catch a glimpse of her prince beforehand, maybe she’d even get him to agree to lunch? Or perhaps she should ask Bossman Yuria?
    Once the guild came into view she fell into line seeing the Branch leader and elder officer in the clearing. She barely made it in time to settle in when the clock struck twelve. Soon another Guild Officer was hopping in and breathing life into the debrief. Lule let a big grin come across her face as she snapped one of the four parchments out of the air. She sauntered over to the others unrolling it.
    “Got itttttt. Bos- Yuriaaaaaa. Lookie lookie! Let's team up!”
Amaris Evenwood
The bear wasn't the only one who was hungry at the moment, although, depending on who you asked, Amaris's meal was could be considered much less decent. The merman had decided to get his favorite, a fried fish sandwich, fully topped with pickles and tartar sauce. That wouldn't have been so egregious on his own, but the container he pulled it from, a jar of brine, may have raised some brows. Happily enjoying the meal, he looked around to take in the company of his peers.
"I don't know about eating them..." he responded to Karv's comment, making sure to swallow and wipe his mouth before speaking, "but I'd love to be able to capture one and take it back to the Lab!" Knowing Julia though, she had probably managed to capture her fair share of the beasts, whether that was with Guild permissions or not.
As the meeting time grew closer, Amaris gravitated towards the center of the crowd. Being of average height, it was a fitting place for him, where he wouldn't block anyone's view, nor have his own blocked. Seemingly just before the Officers started talking, the were Princess found her place in the crowd, passing him by. He gave her a small smile, not having time for much more of an interaction with her before the speech finally began.
It started formally, pretty standard for what he had expected, before Officer Hanuel stepped in and livened things up. The merman blinked, finding himself captivated by the magic she performed with her fiery hands and found himself staring with wide eyes. He was so transfixed, he didn't notice the scroll coming right for him. The scholar, unsurprisingly not the most coordinated, fumbled a bit with the paper before taking a hold of it. The speech finished off with a return to a more formal tone, but the merman's focus had shifted solely onto the paper he currently held.
Only when he heard one of his fellow graduates, Nyx, ask about teams, did he realize this was actually a group assignment that involved combat capability. Ayame was more than capable. On top of that, teaming up with her would be a chance to make up for lost time. Maybe Nettuno would join them as well. He gazed around the crowd, looking for the two as well as thinking of others who would be good teammates. Amaris wasn't sure about Vega's abilities, but with his hulking frame, surely these little pests would be no trouble, right? It would give him a chance to learn more about the Ratsetsu as well.
Karv seemed capable as well, but from the question the shifter just asked, Amaris was sure there would be no monster specimens left intact to study. Nyx certainly couldn't be left out when it came to capable fighters, but his close-mindedness towards monsters would yield in the same result as with Karv.
A jump; a shadow in the air.
A multitude of sparkles, reflecting the sunlight from every available spot on the body.
Zipping through the air with a flip, one of the four parchments was snatched before it even neared the crowd.
The figure landed elegantly on one foot and knee, kicking up a faint cloud of dust.
Razul Dazul rose as the multitude of people made way to give him space, literally shining where he stood.
"Razul!" And there came the entourage, led by the lovely individual who the gentleman kindly knew as 'Girl A.' "That was so cool!" She stopped within arm's length of him, hands below her chin and brimming with excitement.
Razul smirked confidently, turning with a flick of his hair over the head as he met eyes with her. "Got one," he said, presenting the paper.
"That was so dreamy!" 'Girl D' was next in the fawning. Her eyes sparkled up at him with pure admiration. "You really are a prince from the fairytales!"
"I-Idiot...!"
The more abrasive of the four, 'Girl C,' spoke up next. Unlike the others, she had her back turned towards Razul with her arms crossed. Occasionally she'd shoot a glare at him—but she was here. "You could have hurt yourself over something so menial!"
Razul was then gripped from behind, and a notable pair of breasts pressed on his back. "Are you hurt anywere, Razul? No bruises?" Girl B's voice carried a much more teasing cadence than one of concern.
Razul gently pushed away from her, walking ahead of the group. "You saw right through me, my dear... Indeed, my heart was wounded, for I was without each of your grace's for moments—moments that stretched like eons..." He ran a hand through his hair, maintaining the handsome smirk that seemed permanently plastered on. "Yet I've been instantly mended the moment I saw each of you once more."
Each of the girls (save for B) erupted in a unified "Kyah!" and hugged themselves. If one looked hard enough, perhaps they'd even see the hearts bubbling out of their heads.
Although Razul still held some concern over the fact that the only reason they joined and got this far was to follow him, he was nonetheless fond of their presence; to him, it was a reminder that he was doing a good job. Now, it seemed as though the others who snatched their papers were gathering, and naturally that meant Razul had to be there, too. "Ladies?" he called back, and the group of four eagerly followed after.
As the sun glittered across his attire and the four colorful fans clustered around like a miniature mob, to say he was eyecatching would be an understatement. He knew that, and he reveled in it. Waving to those who stared for long, blowing kisses to the ladies (not realizing that some of his entourage sent them harsh glares immediately after), he soon made it to the small gathering. "Well met, fair ladies and gentlemen." Razul gave a courteous bow to those there, being a beautiful girl with horns and a much taller and admittedly intimidating man. "How fortunate of us to be the ones valiant enough to reap the parchments into our grasps. May I have your names?"
Minerva Morningdew
Minerva had spent her morning tending to her mother's flower shop. A rather normal occurrence save for the fact she could hardly contain her excitement! Actually no, that was rather normal too. Time went by excruciatingly slowly for the young Fae, her eyes shifting to the clock every few seconds making it all the worse. Indeed when combined with the slow morning the shop had experienced, she might have spent an eternity waiting the five hours it realistically took for her to finish up and make her way to the training field.
It was a cold morning and Mineva's wings were certainly feeling it, rubbing her hands together as she walked Minerva offered a smile to all she passed. A well-liked individual in the area and all too popular with children Minerva was an average existence in a world of stars. Making her way through the streets Minerva ended up assisting a handful of people as she made her way to the training field. A young boy who had lost his toy, an old man who needed a hand carrying his shopping, and a mother whose daughter refused to take medicine. Minerva was too kind for her own good though and while the briefing kicked off at twelve she arrived late. Only by a minute or two but late nonetheless.
Arriving just in time to see the scrolls launched into the air Minerva instinctively reached out for one. Only half listening to the instructors who seemed to be rambling off something or other about who they were and when to be here and all that jazz. No instead Minerva went about gazing at her surroundings. Satpines were something she had heard about many times from both her parents as well as customers from the farmlands. They seemed to be rather pesky creatures that were hard to deal with when grouped together. Wait... maybe that was something from class... Either way, they were bad news for the ecosystem.
Turning to look around the area, Minerva immediately locked eyes on Maldar and Roland "Oi, Mal! RoLaNd~ Want to team up?". Jumping up and down on the spot Minerva began to wave at the two, causing quite the ruckus before suddenly sinking into the ground and disappearing. Only to reappear from above Maldar, falling and clinging onto him from behind, her arms looping his shoulders to keep herself upright and feet from touching the ground. Smiling from ear to ear and subtly giggling to herself Minerva half-heartedly repeated what little she had heard from the speech "You're not getting out of this... There are some quests you cannot turn down right~".
Minerva was unaware she needed a scroll to team up with others, she had just heard the word team thrown around and had decided to roll with it. Completely misinformed.
Ayame & Nettuno
Collab
Nettuno truely hoped that Ayame didn’t notice the copious amount of sugar he’d been sneaking into his own tea. His own was more sugar than tea at this point and it wasn’t making it any easier for his own senses. He had long past the appropriate amount of sugar and it was sickenly sweet from his mistake, he was about three minutes away from tossing the tea in the nearest potted plant when she turned away. He’d never regret accepting an invitation to enjoy her company, especially as they were celebrating, but tea was never something he was fond of.
“Do you think they’ll let us take on requests immediately?”
“I don’t see why not,”
the kitsune shrugged, bringing her own cup of tea to her lips. She tested the hot drink with a small sip, her right eyebrow slowly lifting up in suspicion of the aftertaste. It wasn’t awful but it certainly wasn’t like the tea she had back home — good thing her father had anticipated this and presented her with a pouch of winterstem before she left Elvebredden. “Excuse me for a moment,” she dipped her head slightly towards her friend as she set her tea on the table in front. Twisting her hips, she reached for the pouch that was tied to the back of her waist. After undoing the string that had secured it to her kimono, she delicately removed the contents from the small bag.
“Anyways, continuing our discussion — we have the necessary skills that qualified us for graduation, it would be a little silly if they didn’t allow us to do what we trained to do,” she said casually as she unrolled the linen that protected a bundle of dried winterstem. Ayame plucked one stem from the bunch, snapping it in half and dropping on half in her tea while she used the other half to stir. “Ah, my manners — would you like one?”
He looked to the small bag debating if it was worth it. Its not like the taste could get much worse but he recognized the little stem, would their instructor care if they came a little more relaxed? Well Ayame certainly seemed to think it’d be fine… before he hesitated any more he gave a little nod to the other as he pushed his cup forwards.
“Sure we clearly have the skills, but its not exactly like they were that upfront with how to go about requesting missions. Unless we were suppose to learn by osmosis in which case I have nothing because the girls I see going up to the countertop only ever giggle and ask if I was training to be a Gazer. Is it that obvious I don’t know what I’m doing? Hell another trainee even did that to me, Luli? Lula?”
“Well, you are short and cute, Nettuno,”
she teased lightly as she plucked another stem from her bundle, enhancing her friend’s tea before gently pushing it back toward him. “Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to show a little more confidence in yourself, even if you genuinely don’t know what you’re doing,” Ayame suggested before taking a sip of her winterstem-infused tea. She let out a small sigh of satisfaction, the taste was much better and reminded her of home now.
“It’s quite simple: roll your shoulders back, hold your chin up, fan your tails out — ah, you don’t have tails — hmmm…” she hummed lightly to herself, thinking of another gesture that would display confidence. “How attached are you to that particular hairstyle? I think you’d look a little less tired and a little more approachable if your brushed it back to reveal both eyes.”
He took a sip of the now winterstem tea and felt it begun to calm his nerves just a tad. He took a hand pushing back the hair from his face. It was strange to not feel the hair on his face so he let the hair drop once more.
“Hmm-feels weird. I don’t think I could manage to project confidence. Besides, it's better to have an element of surprise isn’t it? Or maybe it’s not when you’re on the same side.”
“I don’t think you should worry to much about it,”
Ayame shrugged before downing the rest of her tea, letting out another sigh as the hot drink warmed her stomach. Although winter had come to an end, the morning air still had a certain sting to it. Nothing she wasn’t used to but she did prefer the warm sun over the current overcast.
Her ears twitched slightly at the nearby clock tower, counting the number of chimes. Eleven. “We should probably get going soon, tardiness is beneath me.” Ayame pushed her now empty teacup to the center of the table before rising to her feet. She quickly packed away the rest of her winterstem and then looked to Nettuno, “hopefully I didn’t give you too much, the recommended amount always varies by body size…” The kitsune figured he’d be fine, maybe a little too relaxed later but she doubted anyone else would notice. She waited until her friend was ready to depart before leading the way to the guild’s training yard.
The bells were enough to snap him out of his more relaxed slump that was starting to take over as he gulped the last of the tea. He didnt think starting their careers as Gazers with tardy marks would be too helpful for them in the long run. He took a moment to stack the cups and organize the dishes in a more convenient way for the cafe staff to pick up before circling back to walk besides Ayame.
“Feel a bit floaty, should be fine though.”
He put his hand out and pulled at the raw magic around them bringing it into a kaleidoscopic prism to play with shaping the light around them. It came just as easily as always proving to himself he would be fine even with the extra light fuzzy feeling he had to his own body.
“Yeah, I feel ready to hop to it. Hopefully they give us something worthwhile. It’d suck to be on training wheels when itd be a step backwards.”
Upon arrival, the two didn’t wait long for the rest of their graduating class to trickle in. As soon as the clock tower chimed noon, the officers dived right into business, briefing them on their first mission. “Looks like you had nothing to worry about in terms of requests,” the kitsune whispered to Nettuno, keeping her eyes locked on the conjured image of a Satpine. They were kind of cute, she thought — but a monster nonetheless.
As the female officer tossed four rolled parchments out to the group, Ayame bent her knees slightly as she considered jumping for a rolled parchment. However, the effects of the winterstem were beginning to kick in so she decided against it. “Who should we ask to team up with? We should probably consider our current skills and who we need to make up for what we lack in…” Ayame suggested to Nettuno as she surveryed the group.
“What was the ideal teams again? A twisted for scouting, a shaper for versatility, a were for defense, and a genie for magic? At least that’s how we ran our exhibitions into the local dead zones with my archeological crew. The two of us cover Were and Shaper so we should pair with a genie right?”
He took a look around and saw Amaris seemingly eying them up, though he was fairly certain it was more to Ayane than himself. Luckily he seemed to have a parchment of his own.
“Ayame on your five. Looks like Amaris got one, wanna rush it?”
Ayame turned her head to find Amaris, offering a wave as she realized he was looking in their direction. "Amaris covers genie," she nodded in approval to Nettuno's suggestion. It also had been quite some time since the two interacted with each other; she had known they were in the same class but they never really had the chance to sit down and chat like they had done in Elvebredden a while back.
She approached Amaris, dipping her head slightly as a more formal greeting. "Amaris, it's always good to see you — Nettuno and I are searching for a team, if you'd like to team up?"
TLDR: Ayame and Nettuno get mildly high off enhanced tea before the meeting and approach Amaris to team up.
    ||
    "Today i've prepared a rare 9985 red wine, fresh out of the cellars. Honjozo branded of course, but you wouldn't like it any other way." Yuria mused, pouring a deep red liquid into a glass before presenting it to the rich looking man before them. Yuria was silent as they sipped; waiting to hear their opiniondespite knowing the answer. "Thank you. As always, the charge will go to your account here. Should you like the bottle enough to drink more than one glass, one of our staff will see to you. Excuse me, dear guest." Yhere was slight protest at his sudden departure, but the tall youth paid it no mind. A batch of their more popular wine just turned fifteen, and as such the bar was busier than usual. He didn't blame them. The moment he opened a large, heavy wooden door and closed it behind himself however, he sighed. "Moons, some of these people drink wine like water in the desert." A nearby staff member laughed, setting down a barrel to take a breather. "Though, I suppose I can't complain. Don't overwork yourself Leo, and make sure the others don't either. I must make myself scarce; Gaze Guild."
    Leaving the Red Palace was easy enough, only stopping here and there to direct staff or offer directions to newer guests. Eventually he was out on the street, briskly walking whilst strapping a rather long sword to his belt and tucking a firearm inside his clothes. Graduation was upon them, and it would be here they likely got their first job as a Gazer. Waving to passerby's here and there he took to thinking their day over. Would they pick who they worked with? One could only wonder. Winding pathes of gravel and paved stone eventually gave way to his destination, the guild hall and it's attached training field.
    Introductions went well enough; they all met their new superiors and recieved their first task, simple and easy but a job regardless. He'll have to make sure the Palace will be fine without him. Scanning the crowd present, the black haired man frowned. Should he pick to be the best team, or just people he liked? Just when he was about to decide, the answer was made for him. Luljeta was at his side with an offer, and with a laugh Yuria nodded. "Alright, let's work together on this. Eh, not that I don't think we could do it as a duo, but did you have anyone else in mind, or should I pi-" Red eyes flitted to the approaching man, looking down to them before looking over to their group of admirers. Ah, so this was Razul. Curious fellow so far, but interesting. Luljeta's stories passed through his mind, and Yuria smiled. Hope their reputation matched the man. Bowing in kind as they did, Yuria responded. "Yuria Honjozo, a pleasure. You are?"
The sun flashed through drawn, thin curtains, blinding the weretiger with its blinding rays.
With a grumble, Angelica tossed to her other side but it was futile to get those precious extra moments as her alarm blared loudly right by her head on the nightstand.
Clawed fingers smacked the alarm clock as she sat up, her long hair sitting shaggy over her shoulders.
With a sniff, she stretched, running her fingers through her hair as she stood up and got ready for the day.
Examining herself in the mirror, she chose something that clung to her curves and plenty of jewelry.
Snatching a pair of sunglasses to finish the look, she smiled in the mirror and flipped a thick braid over her shoulder before leaving her apartment.
She stopped by a local market to pick up a glass of milk and a small breakfast.
Time to stop by her favorite jewelry store to see one of her most favorite merchants friends.
Tossing the polished off breakfast into a trash can that sat on a sidewalk, she swung into the building with a singsong tune to her voice, “Emmi~ Got anything special for me for our meeting today~
Emmi was passed out in front of her work station several finished and unfinished pisces of jewlery separated to each end of the table as her face was rubbed up against the table. Her hair was a mess and it appeared she might of be out for maybe four maybe five hours.
With the sound of a cheery tone she sleepy lifts her head. Oh thats right I forgot to lock the door last night. “Hu?” she looks over at Angelica with a tired look in her eyes and some drew coming out of her mouth. “Good …….. M ….. Morning” She looked like she was about to pass out again.
Angelica’s ears flickered as she bounded to the table, sliding over a drink she had picked up from the market that she was at, “Good Morning Sleepyhead. That’s for you.
Emmi glanced out the glass before taking it and slurping it down. “What time is it?” Her face still showed sings of sleepyness.
The tigress counted on her fingers as she then responded, “Around like… 10ish I think? Maybe 10:30? Did you leave here at all last night?
Her eyes would blank twice as she heard her speak. Then she would just watch as a sort of tiredness just disappeared from her face and then panic. “I Over Sleept!” She would immediately rise from her char and run upstares shouting. “Help your self to the anything in the display case or on the newly crafted table ill be right back!
Angelica did as she was permitted to do, quickly seeing something on the table of new pieces, grabbing the larger ring that caught her eye and slid it onto her tail. She’d give Emmi the money after she helped her out. She hopped over the counter and approached the stairs, quickly finding the gnomish woman. She stuck her head into the room she found her in, “Lemme help if you overslept.
The closer to the stairs she got the loader the sounds got as she opened the door to her apartment area where she was in the middle of pulling out several clothes tossing off what she was wear and brushing her hair all at the same time. “I I got it.
Angelica didn’t listen and stepped right inside, going straight to her friend’s clothes, “What’s a friend for but to help. Besides, I love dressing my friends up~” As she was filtering through the cloth, the weretiger couldn’t help but wag her tail from side to side, blatantly not listening.
Despite any potential pushback, soon enough the two were done and Angelica paid Emmi for the piece of jewelry she bought. Was it magic? Angelica didn’t know, nor did she care since she couldn’t use them anyway. She might need to care if she took any of her jewelry home but that’d be a future Angelica problem.
The clocktower was a little past from striking 11 as they were approaching up the street to the guild.
See? We made it in time since you let me help~
You didnt need to help with everystep of the dressing process.” Emmi’s face was red but she got over it a few minutes later. “Whats this meeting suppose to be about again I have jewelry to make and a shop to run after.” She asks annoyed.
Angelica looked to the gathering crowd by the Guild’s building, “Believe it was something to do with missions and the next steps since we graduated and whatnot. Maybe they even have a mission for us. No more stupid easy training!” That may have been what excited Angelica the most. Gaze Guild training was relatively simple compared to Ciuma’s.
Its probably something that a child could solve I doubt its anything to glamorous or heroic.
Angelica snorted, “Never heard the Gaze Guild doing anything more than simple pest problems anyway. Oh look, they’re starting.
As the officer’s spoke, Angelica watched with piercing eyes and a judging glare, her arms crossed as the tip of her tail flickered. The attitude shift might have been jarring for anyone not used to her. When scrolls were sent into the crowd, she purposely examined her sharp nails to not catch the one that went flying past her.
Once all was said and done, she turned to Emmi, “If the lack of enough paper is anything to go by, I have a feeling they’re telling us to group up without telling us we need to group up.
Sigh typical. Well I guess time is wasting might as wall join one of the others Ill let you pick your a better jugge on who we should teem up with then I would.
Angelica looked down at Emmi with a grin, “Fair enough~” With a quick scan of who had a scroll, choosing the group to approach was not a hassle at all… There was only one girl that caught one after all.
With a gentle grab of Emmi’s hand, she led her towards the weresheep and Red Palace man she got the apartment invite from. With a purr in her voice, “Room for two more~?” She made it a point to look at Luljeta in particular, ignoring the sparkling man completely as of the moment.
Profaner
cqc1.5.jpg
The air was crisp, and the sky swaddled in clouds. Profaner, still used to the volcanic heat of her homeland, could feel the post-winter chill knawing at her skin, and seeping into her bones. She made an attempt at mounting a defence, swaddling herself in a shell of garbs that ran three layers thick, but it had hardly been enough. She wanted to retreat. Back into her attic, baked warm by the rising heat of the forge below, and then only emerge when high noon struck.
She was not so lucky.
Profaner stood in a daze, half hypnotized by the lazy march of the clouds above, and silently willing her blood to pump faster, to make more friction, more heat that her clothes could trap. Lost within the folds of her stolen attention, the Officers' speech rolled on in a muffled blur. She half perceived what they were saying, catching the tail end of the conversation as her ears pricked up at the mention of their quarry.
Her eyes wandered from the sky, following the papers that gently fluttered through the air, realizing a few moments too late that the lot of them had been snatched up before she'd had a chance to make a move. Amongst each other, her classmates were already chatting merrily, arranging themselves in their typical cliques and cadres. Profaner, for her part, did as she normally did, and stood as still as a statue. She couldn't remember how long she'd spent in the company of these people, but almost all of them still felt foreign. There was Nyx, with whom she shared a homeland, Maldarius, who pestered her still, and Roy, who'd been kind enough to house her.
But the rest? They may as well have been strangers.
Though, speaking of that last.
Profaner's fingers squeezed, reminding her of the half-eaten, half-loaf of bread that dangled loosely at her side. She'd forgotten about it, as enraptured with her battle with the morning chill as she was. She lifted it to her lips, resuming her consumption of the deli-meat delight as she mulled over the situation. She felt a chill run through her, penetrating her meagre fortress of cloth. What exactly was she supposed to do in this situation?
Of all the papers, none of them had been blessed with the fortune of finding their way into the palms of anybody she knew. She squinted in the direction of each of the bearers, struggling to do so much as recall their names, and failed at each turn. She wasn't feeling nervous per se, and shy wasn't the right word either. Well and truly, she was just stumped.
Her brow crinkled as she observed things for a moment more. Chatter had turned to discussion. Bonds were being tied and deals sealed. She'd not much to bargain with herself, lacking both the charm and wit to wriggle her way into one of the groups on charisma alone. All she had to her name was...
Hm.
Something sparked inside her mind, which had been mostly absent until now. With a few, confident bounds, she crossed the courtyard, approaching the bear-man whom she recognised, but still couldn't pin a name to. She thrust out her hand, which contained her now two-thirds-eaten half-sandwich at him, laid out on her palm like a pedastal.
"Are you still hungry? If you let me join you I will give you this." She stared at him blankly. "It is very tasty."
Maldarius| Askrvior | Yggdrasil
His home was massive. Bigger than most. It had once been a hotel- knocked down and rebuilt before he had fully moved in, it had been reformed into a three story building. Practically shaped and molded into a manor. Rooms for his staff, himself, and any number he had a fancy on bringing to...enjoy company with.
After all he is a Vice, and Vice's had rights to enjoy life's hard-earned desires. Especially if those desires could be swayed by status and money. This was probably one of the fuels that kindled the fire for rumors about the foreigner Twisted from Nefarrent in his part of town. Not like he had done anything like that since coming here-- at least not much anyway for half the rumors to be true. Especially when they involved a certain Fae.
Yet even with life being full of gossip, out of the shower and the only thing he could think of was today. Not of the rumors or the hidden opinions- but the big moment he had been just as excited for as his Fae friend was.
Four years, all paid off. Glad it only took one to get to this point, but taking the extra time to build myself up before joining was the right choice. Maldar thought as he flexed his arm, the muscles in them tensing as he did it and then rolled his shoulder as he stepped out of the open bath, wet feet slapping tiles and reached for his towel to dry off. A cold rinse was necessary to wake him up before the day started.
The last four years had been, something else for certain. Moving to Yggdrasil after time had passed from father's death was not easy. Not when there was a kidnapping attempt on one of his siblings that had to be settled weeks after the burning and rest of Inakius.
The thoughts on his siblings and father were pushed back.
Departing early to arrive at the meeting point as soon as he could was a necessity- but so were the necessary considerations of completing his routine first. Dressed lightly, training pants and a simple jersey, he took steps down from the larger bathhouse adjacent to his room and made his way to the central hall downstairs below, passing an elf maiden, whom he smiled to as the older woman passed him by and slowed her move to a stop. "Morning Eltara" he said before she could greet him, nodded his head respectfully to the elder.
Eltara, smiled, the wrinkles around her eyes somehow making the smile seem just a bit brighter and warmer than it should have been. Cold indigo eyes looked him over at a glance and she said: "Vice Maldar, you're up early. Couldn't sleep I presume?"
He chuckled half-heartedly. Rubbing the back of his head. "Can never hide much from you can I?"
His head security officer, coach, and practical guardian smiled wider. Her teeth did not show but the amusement she found in his words certainly did. Though the same age as his mother and a hired hand picked years ago after a careful analysis and review, she was still as perceptible as ever.
"Age never dulls a properly cared for blade my dear Vice." She said with the same gentle tone, but there was a degree of smug satisfaction that even he could not miss. She certainly had loosened up over the years- but then again, that was the benefit of being his security officer instead of the one in charge of his other siblings. Though there was obvious coordination- he didn't treat the ones hired to see his safety as only just people doing their job like most of them did.
"Though I'll say you're getting better at sneaking around." She chuckled as she turned. "I didn't even notice you had left yesterday for your routine at least for a good few minutes."
He snickered. "Maybe one day you'll hardly notice at all."
Eltara laughed. Rare, despite how melodious and soft it was as she raised a hand to even conceal it. Her back to him and still moving away, she called back to him as she entered the other room that would take her to the living quarters, "Keep dreaming child! I'd be out of the job if I couldn't keep track of you after all these years."
Eloquently put, but it only reminded him of just why she said it that way. Father's death hadn't done good for anyone. Even if it hadn't been her fault and the responsibility had been on the security that Ramiles had hired for the gathering event, Inakius death still was like a haunting phantom.
One he'd have to ignore for now.
Turning towards the exit, Maldarius took notice of the lack of guards present to greet him, and instantly, detected something off.
Normally when she was leaving, there were always one or two of the staff following. With Eltara gone, it was just him now. Something...didn't seem right about this. He looked across the hall and stared at the time. 7:15 a.m. He had plenty of time before the meeting event later today for all Gazer graduates. Minerva and some of the others he was looking forward to seeing again would be there.
And maybe the girl he didn't recognize would be there also. After all, she had been quite the combatant when they had trained. Even he couldn't deny she was as skilled a fighter as Profaner was. Maybe even better from how she was able to close the gap with him despite the distance advantage and still lay him flat on the ground.
Only thing he didn't like about her was that she'd refused to give him her name.
Don't get distracted he reminded himself. Where are the others?
He could call out to them, but it was only getting to 7:30. His guards were punctual, and Eltara was already up and moving about. Probably organizing whatever checklist she had and going through the house on her rounds like she usually did- but Kiki and Dmitri were nowhere to be seen with her, nor was Gladius, Severus, Nephelia, or any of the others under her command.
The Territory of the Vice should not be this quiet normally. Especially not during the early morning. He wasn't expecting it to be loud, but the fact he saw little of anyone was--
He rolled, something made a sound above him and he rolled instantly on reflex. Three seconds, right as he was coming out of the roll, something instantly crashed onto the ground behind him and a cacophony of sound as it readjusted from the drop off his ceiling as he span to his feet.
Maldar's eyes which had hardened, narrowed but lost the edge they initially held as he turned to face his opponent.
She swore as she rose back to her feet. "I knew something was off."
"Vice, morning." One of the arms snapped a half-assed salute as she stayed crouched and low on the ground. "Gettin' betta at analyzing hyour environment, good."
He sighed. Always so casual, not that he cared much in the break in protocol. "Uneh, what are you doing?"
The Geniekind's head tilted down, giving him a suspicious look of smugness. "What does it like I'm doing, mi liege?"
His brow twitched. "Still calling me that."
"An' until ye win, that won't be stopping." She winked. "Unless--"
"Stop evading my questions?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Oh me laird," she cooed in affection, four of her hands came to rest on her chest, right where her heart was. "I'd never evade you if ye requested me. We both know that. I'm merely" she smirked, "buying time, me laird."
The balls that had been thrown behind him from above, bounced. He turned thinking it was another opponent only to catch a glimpse before they exploded with wind magic. Maldar's eyes narrowed, body tensed as a wall of force slammed him upwards hard, as he was picked up and sent fourteen feet into the air, while in the same instant he was being carried Uneh slammed her clawed digits into the ground, anchoring herself to the floor.
As Maldar peaked, he caught a passing sight on the second floor. Standing behind the wooden rails, Eltara watched him with a smile. Saying nothing. She raised a hand, waving him goodbye as he fell back down below-- and the only thing he could think of in that moment was: "You set this up" but even as he muttered it, he knew Eltara would never confirm or announce an impromptu training session as rare as they had been.
Uneh, grinning and watching, pulled four of her arms out of the ground and began shifting like a predator ready to pounce as he descended.
He arrived early despite the continued trials at home. Scratch marks here and there- but that was just what happened when you trained.
To say he didn't find it somewhat amusing that one of their superior officers was casually eating a snack when they were about to be given their first important briefing and introduction as graduates would be a lie. The amused smile on his face was hard to miss and the way the man's demeanor reminded him of home- the lack of traditional professionalism reminded of a friend, one of his more solid ones. Pizazz. Would eat a bag of chips while listening to something serious and didn't care if you liked he was doing it or not. It honestly reminded him a bit of the Strength Virtue and those that followed it. It was a nice contrast to his partner with the scar.
Bet those two have an interesting dynamic
Oh but he was wrong. Terribly so. It was the woman that came up to take charge that gave him the sense of a much more interesting personality.
'Baby Gazers' Maldarius found himself smiling just a little, repressing the urge to raise his brow in surprise at the statement.
He didn't really care for being called a 'baby', but he supposed the technicality wasn't wrong even if it was crude. Holding his tongue and not making a show of how they were being addressed amused him however meant he was doing far better than his other siblings might have. Especially better than Rodan or Adella would have at being called such a misnomer in front of or around so many people.
The woman with the fiery personality addressed them and their paper. He observed the Satpine she had constructed from fire and memorized it.
Small yet dangerous as a group. He was familiar with what monsters of small stature but great power in number were capable of. He hadn't forgotten that one trip they had taken to aid a merchant that had been lost on-route to make an important delivery of metals, had ended up with his crew, stuck in the woods and hiding in the container with all the materials in hopes someone would save them in time. It'd been an act of kindness they were merely headed in the same direction and about to detour before they became aware of the situation just in time. And while he hadn't fought with Eltara and the others, he'd certainly seen plenty of the violence.
He'd been so focused on the concept of how to deal with tiny creatures like the Satpines, along with turning his attention to the Werebear and others he hadn't entirely noticed the tossing scrolls- only seeing one caught before it was too late, and by then- Minerva had landed right on his shoulders.
If he hadn't heard her voice before- odds are he would have very much reached to judo flip her off of him.
Being jumped several times in the day already by his own staff, was bad enough. Being jumped by the chaotic energy of a Fae, only made him pause because she was familiar.
"A-Ah, Minerva, well I'd be happy to team up with you both." He said in a glance to Roland's direction. Ignoring the surprisingly strong grip she had as he turned to look at her. "However- I assume they want us to pair up given there seems to only be a few." Maldar's eyes looked around. He spotted Nyx and then decided to take note of who he might be gravitating towards so he could specifically avoid it.
No need to start drama so soon in a group and ruin a mission, especially the first. Seeing Profaner gravitate that way crossed her off the list of people he would look for. He had standards- even if the Metzilean and most people that had cottoned on to the rumors about him, liked to believe he didn't.
"We don't have a scroll, we'll need to find someone who does. I'd prefer we avoid people we don't get along with though for the first mission." And by that he was more talking about himself than the others. "Saves all of us time and less headache. He said to Minerva. And then skimmed the ones he could see holding a scroll.
The merman, Karv, the girl with horns and naginata, the Charming Prince he thought. He sighed.
He really didn't want to go anywhere near Nyx. The fact Amaris was standing not far from there made him feel less inclined to even bother going near him. Didn't have a problem with the merman but he certainly did not want to be anywhere near Nyx right now.
Okay, who else, if not them genius he practically heard Arja's sarcastic low growl, muttering into his ear.
There was a tiny pinch of irritation as that thought wormed its way into his mind. Echoing in his ear. Could practically see his elder sister giving him the eye while he stood here deciding on what to do. Judging him--
--He knew if he went anywhere Nyx, he'd start something. The guy really just got under his skin enough for him to be antagonistic intentionally- and with teamwork needed, he had to stay out and avoid that. He didn't want to sabotage himself here. So that meant approaching Razul was out, if Razul himself didn't oust him immediately or the girls got to him first. After all, hard to forget walking in on someone when they weren't expecting it.
He was certain the girls that made up his main clique wouldn't have forgotten about it either given how loud Razul had yelled and how quickly they'd come to his aid.
For a noble who should be used to maneuvering around complex social circles- he wasn't doing so well here. And he wasn't liking it.
Scratching the thin line where he'd been slashed by Uneh earlier, Maldar turned away from most of the group, tapped Minerva once on the arm, in a sign to ask her to unbind herself from his shoulders- and moved toward Hanuel.
"Are there no more papers available?" Deciding to just be blunt and see what would be said.
Officer Sang-hun stuck his hand back into the bag of unlabelled chips, grabbing a couple as Yun-seo grabbed his attention.
“How can you still be hungry? You act like I don’t feed you.”
Yun held an exasperated look on his face as he addressed the other.
Sang-hun’s lips pulled up into a slight grin, “You feed me plenty but you know I’ve got an insatiable appetite. Can’t have you flopping over in front of the newbies, right, Nabi?”
Yun’s face took on a smirk as he started speaking only to stop halfway noticing the Gazers questioning eyes.
“Ttch as if I’d-”
A question from the group gathered both of their attention as one of the Genies of the group asked a question.
Nyx said:
"Are there any requirements to how the teams are formed and will we be assigned to different area's?"
Sang glanced over everyone briefly before setting his pink gaze back on the Oni, “No requirements but I’d recommend finding people that balance your talents. Your assignments are on the papers Officer Hanuel tossed out. There’s four nests in total that will need to be handled.”
Karv said:
“Do we expect any sort of… normal people presence? Do we need to use subtlety or can we make noise?”
Yun-seo turned to the larger Were and considered what he could remember from the files given to him by the group's training officer before beginning to speak.
“That would depend on what you specifically would consider subtle. From what we have gathered one constant on Monsters regardless of species seems to be an ability to smell magic. Any non-twisted individuals are going to smell like a Holiday buffet for them, especially a creator. That said any average citizen is not likely to be traveling to the thicket of it. Keep in mind this isn’t a dead zone so we don’t want to be killing the land’s naturally occurring ecosystems.”
Sang added on, “It’s not just Satpines in the area so keep that in mind.”
    "Alright, let's work together on this. Eh, not that I don't think we could do it as a duo, but did you have anyone else in mind, or should I pi-"
    She swears that she was listening closely, Yuria was her boss and she’d like to think her friend as well, but the second her prince came to them she shot up straighter and threw her hands behind her back trying to play the part of a cutesy bashful girl.
    "How fortunate of us to be the ones valiant enough to reap the parchments into our grasps. May I have your names?"
    "Yuria Honjozo, a pleasure. You are?"
    She realized she probably had to answer right? But like she was sure she’d done her best to be noticeable. She let a pout cross her face for a second before she wiped it away placing her usual sugary demeanor back on. Without meaning to she broke out of being bashful relaxing once more into her casual stance feeling more confident around Yuria.
    “Luljeta Prifti of the Daphnis Isle of Tuuli… and of course the best baback of the Red Palace.”
    She spoke the name of her isle low under her breath obviously unable to break the learned habit of adding status to her name but not particularly meaning to of her own volition. Deflecting to her current work was all she could do to try to cut through any questions of what she said hoping to not repeat her homeland. She paused looking to Yuria for guidance as she did when doing something new at the bar but was quickly cut off by a voice behind her.
    “Room for two more~?”
    She contemplated it quickly, she didn’t know either of the girls personally and didn’t have much of a read on them for race. Razul and Yuria were humans though so she’d need to make sure they had some balance. She wasn’t sure that Razul wanted to join them but she sure wanted him to!
    “Well, uh… are you guys Creators or Shapers… or Twisted? Oh but… yes? But we should probably be careful to balance right?”
    She looked back to Razul and Yuria.
    “Do you guys want to join up with them… we could make a big ol strike force!”
VEGA
𓆩❀𓆪
Vega hadn't been listening...
In his defense, he had been trying! Honestly, he had. But all the talk, talk, talking. It all started to sound like the babbling of a Pariman stream. Pretty to listen to, but otherwise meaningless white noise. It dulled the mind, this dawdling. He'd come to fight Monsters! Or men... But one type of fighting was different from the other. The fiery woman looked like she'd give a good bout, and he liked her attitude, even if the minute content of her speech had flown over his towering head.
Vega inclined his head at the sight of the Satpine. "Ha! It's just a little thing, is it?.. Hey. Where is the sport in slaughterin' vermin? Huh?" His voice boomed in the courtyard, mighty and joyous as he was. When Karv mentioned wishing that the cretin were edible, Vega let out a deep, boisterous laugh. "Ha! What a strange thing t' think. N' you said it aloud!" After a moment, after Vega had had time to consider what Karv had said, stroked his chin and nodded in agreement. "Aye, they'd make for poor sport, still. But good eatin'! HAHAHA!" Another bout of uproarious laugther at his own joke. Vega failed to grasp the concept of the flying parchments, and so he simply watched as one sailed by him, well within reach.
He had been here but for the span of a few months, an lone emissary from the land of Parima, the fabled Lost Island of myth. Some saw his coming as a omen of good, or ill, fortune to come. He knew little of signs and portends, and cared for them less. All he knew was what was before him, and what beasts he could crush with his might.
He was suddenly struck by a familiar sight. A mischievousness overtook him as he stalked stealthily—as stealthily as he could—up to his unsuspecting quarry... Closer, closer... "HYA!!"
The titanic Vega lunged at the diminutive Nettuno, scooping him up from behind and plopping him down on one of his exposed shoulders like one would a child. Vega exclaimed in his own tongue the nickname he'd elected to use for Nettuno, a word that meant Small One.
Seeming to both remember himself and his surroundings, Vega inclined his head to greet both Ayame and Amaris in turn, before spotting the scroll clutched in the smaller boy's hands. "Ah! Well struck. Y'caught one! Wha's it say?"
He had ingratiated himself into their trio without shame. As if he'd ever felt shame in his life.
Amaris Evenwood
The merman was too deep in thought when the other two met his gaze. Only when he saw Ayame waving did he snap out of it. He eagerly waved back, grinning happily. When the two approached, his enthusiasm curbed just a bit at the formality his old friend showed, even if it still appeared to be tenfold in comparison.
"Hey! Good morning! Or, well, afternoon now. But yes! I was hoping to ask you both the same thing! I'd love to team up!" He gave a cheerful smile.
The geniekind opened his mouth to suggest a fourth addition to their team, but before he could speak, the person he had in mind appeared from seemingly out of nowhere to scoop Nettuno up. The foreign words piqued Amaris's curiosity. What did they mean? When spoken along with the action of raising someone onto your shoulder, did they hold cultural significance? The merman allowed his wind magic to hold the scroll afloat as he pulled out a notebook from the satchel around his hips. He began to phonetically spell the words spoken by the Pariman onto the page, completely oblivious to the actual simplicity of the situation.
"Huh?" He looked up when the tall man pointed out the scroll. "Oh, right." The notebook and pencil were left hovering while he picked up the parchment. "... it's just a debriefing of our mission," he commented, looking back up after a skim. "It pretty much repeats what the Senior Officers said." Still, he held it out for any of the others if they were curious.
"Oh, Vega," he said, returning his attention to the Pariman. "We're teaming up." He gestured to Nettuno and Ayame. "Would you like to join us?" The interaction between Nettuno and Vega seemed friendly enough, so he figured the smaller wouldn't mind. Hopefully Ayame wouldn't either.
His face lit up as an idea hit. "Wait! That'd be perfect, actually! If we're on the same team, we can capture one of the Satpines and bring it back to the lab!" He imagined Julia had studied them before, but an extra specimen couldn't hurt.
    She should have brought some popcorn for all these in-the-box thinkers. It was like watching some tween popularity contest. She had fifty on at least three of them washing out and she was putting it on the harem. At least some of them seemed to actually be using their heads. You’d thinking having graduated they’d be working on collaborative thinking.
    She let out a sigh counting the current ones in her head. The teams were already uneven, not a problem in itself since the nests weren’t exactly equally distributed in the forest but they weren’t exactly working too hard to figure that out on their own.
    No, she was being hard on them. Sure some had prior experience with some bad situations but it's not like any of this year's volunteers come from destroyed towns and kingdoms. Nah, she supposed it was to be expected with this year's recruits.
    She was still ranking them in her head.
    She did have money on the line with some of the other officers.
    "Are there no more papers available?"
    She looked up at the approaching male.
    Maldarius. Twisted.
    Ah yes, she knew the feel of the twisted well…also she had his file.
    She twirled the paper she had in her hands once more setting it on fire in front of the man. The flames quickly ate away at the copy.
    “Depends, why do you want your own?”
    He more felt than sensed being lifted up into the air. It was something that wasn’t common place but also wasn’t unexpected when it came to anywhere Vega occupied. He heard the foriegn sounding word roll off Vega’s tongue that just struck confusion. For all the lands he traveled it was quite rare indeed to find someone who spoke another. Some days he wondered just exactly where Vega came from.
    “Hey Vega,”
    He greeted the other instinctively as he shimmed into a comfortable position to hold on to Vega, not wanting to fall several feet to the floor.
    "Ah! Well struck. Y'caught one! Wha's it say?"
    Right the scrolls. He wondered just what info would be in them if it wasn’t given to the group as a whole. He couldn’t get a read on them to determine if it would be less or more info given.
    "... it's just a debriefing of our mission, it pretty much repeats what the Senior Officers said."
    He let out a sigh at the scrolls. If it was just a debrief then was it really needed per team? Hmm. Well the scrolls might just be set pieces to whatever they wanted them to do. He couldn’t figure out what was expected of them. He much rather preferred clear descriptive instructions.
    He was relaxed, sure they would technically not have a twisted with this make up but it wasn’t like he knew any off the top of his head. He was lucky if this was their team he’d have plenty of magic surrounding him to attack with. Still not even the relaxing of the spiked tea could outweigh the shiver that overcame him when Amaris responded.
    "Wait! That'd be perfect, actually! If we're on the same team, we can capture one of the Satpines and bring it back to the lab!"
    “You want to what? Did I hear that right? Why?”
Glancing to the side as Karv began to speak, Nyx would remain otherwise unperturbed by the werebear's question. It aligned perfectly with what the Oni had remembered of his fellow tribesman, as well as what he had seen and heard since arriving at Yggdrassil. Subtlety was an art form that from what Nyx could surmise; eluded the giant werebears talentpool. He wasn't exactly subtle during his trial. Without even having to gamble the possibility, Nyx could already tell that Karv would create quite the chaotic scenery, should he decide to unleash the beast upon the Satpine population. Blood and gore was almost guaranteed. Perfect as mercy for the NV abominations was something that Nyx had no intentions of providing.
Having his and Karv's question answered, Nyx would excuse himself to one side and watch as the group began to formulate their little cliques; the Oni watching with mild interest. Golden eyes would find themselves scouring the faces of each and every fellow graduate; Nyx's gaze lingering upon them all with various thoughts fluttering through his mind as the Oni warrior remained relatively silent.
Whilst still harboring a neutral if not slightly skewered to unfavourable opinion of the twisted, Nyx could not deny that there were a few of them here that were gradually changing his opinion. It was only due to others like Maldarius that Nyx still held reservations towards the Twisted and how much they could be trusted. The twisted raised in the country of monster worshippers; if anything they would be the sworn enemy of Nesshin. The mere thought sickened Nyx; his expression turning to a glare as he momentarily paused upon the rosy pink haired blasphemer. Profaner despite being a twisted, still held a lot of favourable attributes that Nyx took interest in; the biggest being that she hailed from the tribe of Turr-Rhaga. The Turr-Rhaga; Warriors of great reknown throughout their homelands, Nyx was confident that Profaner would prove to be indispensible in the war against monsters; so long as she remained steadfast on the path towards monster eradication.
Watching Profaner and Karv Nyx's interest would only grow as he watched the two aforementioned comrades approach one another; the oni admiring that possibility that this would be a no-nonsense group focused upon the task.
Having very little interest in the potential of the other groups, Nyx would make his move towards where Karv and Profaner stood.
"Karv.." began Nyx his voice stern and sharp as he strained his neck upward to the far larger man, inwardly cursing how he was so damn fricking tall; before turning and pausing to glance at the twisted. "...Profaner..." he nodded, his tone less stern and somewhat softer as if more attune to someone attemping to be respectful to someone he had once before thought of as being unworthy of such treatment.
"If your group still seeks members..." he began, already assuming that they had formed one,"...then on my honor as a Warrior of Nesshin, I would like to offer my services towards the extermination of the Satpines.." he continued staring up at Karv whom had been the one to catch one of the mission briefings. Right hand pressed upon his chest, Nyx would turn to address Profaner directly once again. "My opinions on twisted are no secret..." he began, meeting her gaze with his own as he looked at her on equal grounds. "... but perhaps this could prove to be an opportunity to change that..." he continued Nyx, raising a hand to his chest in an attempt to show some sincerity. "...that is... if you would be willing to have me be part of this unit"
Perched on top of the bakery, Soleil was basking in her namesake. Her newly grown feathers flared in the sun’s rays. It had been embarrassing to be grounded for the graduation ceremony, but she was pleased to have regained her wings before her first mission with the guild. In her hands was a spiced bun: a treat the baker had made for her special day. It was made with spices from her home in Tuuli. Her mother had sent them as a little reminder of home.
She missed it; all of it really. Her home, her mother, even the etiquette lessons she’d felt smothered under before. She missed flying the currents of hot air over the volcanoes; the mock duels she’d have with her father. But as all things must be balanced, she enjoyed this new life. From the warmth of waking and immediately going down to start the fires in the oven, to the effort she had to put into training to fight. She’d felt ridiculous at how proud she was of Princess Luljeta’s graduation as well. For too long the woman seemed to float from one interest to another, never truly finding her place. But now, for all that she still flits like a songbird, she focused and accomplished her goal. Both of them had.
The princess seemed to adjust to being transplanted in this strange land as comfortably as a migratory bird. Whereas Soleil still felt like a windswept one, just trying to keep upright after encountering the hurricane that was the princess. But she’d gotten her wings beneath her and stabilized. She’d dived into the gaze guild with everything she had. And it had paid off.
Finishing her bun, she considered waving goodbye once more to the baker, but as she peered over the roof, she saw the lunch rush beginning to trickle in. She gave them a wave instead, and gathering her long skirts, she took off heading towards the guild. She alighted on a branch, watching the meeting from above. To ensure one of the officers knew she was there, she summoned a small orb of fire, using her wind to keep it spinning tightly in place. The fire user, as evidenced by her example of the satpine, would definitely have sensed her. In deference to the tree she sat upon, she put the orb out quickly, focusing on the words instead.
She watched the four scrolls be caught, but she waited, watching the groups begin to form, to see where she might join. She frowned watching the divide break up unevenly. Minerva, the embodiment of chaos created her own group without a scroll at all. She might have most of the details, but Soleil was certain the scrolls told where they were supposed to meet up. Razul and the princess both had scrolls, but they seemed to be forming a group together. Karv, having already transformed, began with only Profaner. She considered joining there but watched as Nyx, having waited to the side, joined first.
Her gaze returned to the Princess. She flew down beside her, as she spoke of creating a strike force. “If I may, the scrolls are likely for a nest each. It might be best to balance ourselves between the two. Unless the officers would permit us to clear out both. One after the other.
Minerva Morningdew
Minerva audibly gasped when Maldar mentioned they may have needed a scroll to form a team and gasped yet again when he pointed out the three's clear lack there off. Gazing from side to side Minerva scanned the class for those with papers in hand and did indeed find that those without one had been gravitating toward them. Scandalous! Had she arrived just a little sooner she could have snatched one from the air with ease! Pouting Minerva clung to her friend as he approached one of the speakers, releasing him only after he insisted she did. Peaking out from behind the man with a curious gaze, Minerva watched the interaction with a soft hum to herself. That was up until the woman reduced her scroll to cinders.
Well, that wasn't very cool! But also extremely cool! Tilting her head Minerva vanished from sight, appearing directly behind the woman with a bemused grin. Swaying from side to side Minerva took a step to the left and turned to look at the woman from the side, inspecting her attire. "Very nice! Very very nice!" she exclaimed. Closing her eyes, crossing her arms and nodding as if to agree with herself. "You seem pretty cool to me chief!". Opening her eyes she looked to Maldar and then back to the woman, smiling mischievously at both "How about you join our team?". A ridiculous statement only made worse by what followed. Spinning on the spot Minerva moved a hand to her mouth as if holding a mic "You madam have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to join Gaze Guild's future ace in the hole team! Should you agree you will undoubtedly be guaranteed to have the time of your life! All it'll cost you is another scroll and some DETERMINATION!" Raising her invisible mic into the Air and dropping it Minerva brought her hands to her hips and stood proud in awe of her own pitch. "So whaddya say hmm? Sounds like fun right? Besides wouldn't it be far more entertaining to tag along and see us 'baby gazers' in action up close? At the very least it'll provide you with entertainment, right?"
Karv Corvus
Werekin-Bear
Seeing the others begin to group up Karv looked down at the paper he had snagged out of the air. Finally taking the time to look at it he read it, leaving the others around him to do as they wished. He considered the task at hand and took a moment to see which guildmates would best fit the upcoming task. Considering the creatures were small he wasn’t looking at them in the same way he would for a larger monster hunt. If they were to be working together moving forward, this would be a good first look at what everyone was capable of, and he for one couldn’t wait.
Feeling something pass through the electric field he projected his eyes darted up in the direction of what he assumed was a person. The smell of deli meat filled his nostrils as he took in the woman before him. “Greetings! While I know who you are, I am terrible with names. In case you are the same way, I am Karv Corvus, son of Mētztli. It is nice to meet you.” Karv spoke, his voice boisterous and jovial.
Looking now to the outstretched sandwich he eyed it intently. His nose filtered through the scents and he began to break down what specific deli meat was in the sandwich. Was it chicken, beef…? Pork? Doesn’t smell like sausage or liver. Bread, yes bread… What type of bread? Rye, whole grain? Recently baked or has it been awhile since it had been baked. He pulled himself back and shook his head “Thank you for the offer, but I have another chicken in the box at my waist.” He said, patting the ice box he held at his waist. “You should finish it! You are bundled up like you are freezing, it is best to keep yourself well nourished.” Karv finished
Just as he was finishing his sentence he felt another entity enter his field. Turning his head he looked at Nyx, watching his tribal brother approach. “Hail Nyx Araysh!” Karv boomed. It had been nearly a decade since Karv had worked alongside Nyx in any real capacity. While Nyx was still somewhat of a child when Karv was exiled he remembered him rather well. “It has been quite some time since we shared a relatively uneventful hunt.” Karv spoke.
Looking to Profaner, then back to Nyx he nodded his head in approval “I value your addition to this group, while this isn’t something I would bother with much of the time it is necessary it seems. So, with that in mind, let's try to deal with this in a relatively short time frame. I feel a trap and lure technique could work. I will find some metal and use it to conduct electricity, we could drive the saltpines between the pieces of metal allowing me to fry them with electricity. I guess we will have to evaluate the location though.” Karv spoke, verbally working through a plan.
"Luljeta Prifti of the Daphnis Isle of Tuuli..." Razul parroted in a mutter, even hearing the rest she said under breath. The name was definitely familiar—the girls behind whispered to each other, having also caught a hint of familiarity. Then his eyes widened in a moment's recognition. In an instant, Razul dropped to a knee, cape billowing after him in the air. "My greatest apologies, Your esteemed Highness." The girls noticeably were taken aback, having never seen their beloved drop so quickly. By then, though, they too remembered where they'd heard the name. "I failed to realize the face of a royal princess! How inadequate of myself..." Razul gently reached for Lule's hand, and should she allow it, he brought it forward—pressing his lips against the top of her palm. "I hope you can forgive me. I would never have thought to meet you here, but I suppose we all have our circumstances..." Behind, Girl D fizzled red hot, steam seemingly coming from her head as she watched—and fainted. "Ah, Daisy fainted again..." There came a small yelp from Girl A, who caught her in time.
Then came along two other girls, and Razul promptly rose to his feet. "Well met." He offered a nod to them, but seeing as the one leading the duo took little notice of him, Razul pushed little. That was the gentlemanly thing to do, after all.
Girl C whispered to B. "I don't like her. She looks so arrogant, ignoring Razul like that..."
Razul gave his sparkling smirk when Lule proposed the team up. "Why, certainly! I'd hate for any lady to be left behind, especially if they are requesting our aid." It's rude to refuse a lady's offer. "Besides, if you've made it this far, I'm confident in your abilities already.
"Kyah! Razul has such a noble heart!"
Girl B erupted, clasping her hands together in adoration.
Girl C scowled, looking the other way with her arms crossed. "It's because of stuff like this that People adore you..."
"Why, ladies, it's only natural!"
Razul turned to them with a confident shrug. Their words rid any doubt he may have had; he was playing this role perfectly.
As if there couldn't be any more surprises, a winged Phoenix dropped among them, providing her own input. "Well, I'll be! Yet another angel falls from the skies to grace us in her loving presence." He made his way between the group and Sol, ensuring he was the front that she met with. "I admit, your words hold truth. Who knows how the officers plan to divide their students for the exam? We should take consideration into what our numbers may or may not be."
Maldarius | Askrvior | Yggdrasil
He stared at her in mild surprise. More surprised she had burned the scroll paper than what she had said.
However the buzzing of wings and a certain Fae's movement snapped him out of his momentary pause in surprise. Eyes followed his companion's excitable movement Maldarius found Minerva's mischievous smile rather unnerving.
There was nothing good that came, whenever she made that face. She was about to do something dumb or insane, worse yet a combination of the two.
He opened his mouth to say something to Hanuel, eyes focused on Minerva instead of the woman that had- rather amusingly, flipped him over with her reaction to his question.
Yet Minerva, the motor mouth she was, beat him to it before the first sound left his mouth. All with gestures to add to it.
"How about you join our team?"
His mouth hanged open slightly as if he'd just witnessed Minerva grow a second set of antennas atop her head and begin juggling an assortment of items out of the blue.
Was that something they were even allowed to do? Wouldn't proposing something like this when it hadn't even been suggested in the first place be on grounds for punishment? Especially when they were basically rookies approaching a chief and making such a request?
He was not used to the protocol of other nations entirely when it came to forms of militia, but this seemed almost preposterous as a proposal.
Maldar stared at Minerva with such confusion at why she had decided to also take that specific pose and then also drop whatever thing- a microphone undoubtedly of all things- to the ground. He didn't get this girl sometimes or what went through her head- but by the STARS, was she a lively one to have around.
He busted out laughing. Loud, and deep, just as his voice.
"Of course you would suggest something like that!" He cackled. "Honestly" he sighed with a shake of his head as his fit of amusement came to an end, the smile however not, "it is probably for the best you stick by me so I can keep an eye out for you." He said to his Fae friend.
"She is right though, Chief Firecracker." His striking strange eyes turned to Hanuel, "What better show would you get if not by joining us, 'baby Gazers'? Among her, Roland" he pointed to the distant blacksmith, "and I, you'll get to see how strong our mettle withstands the challenge!" His fist hit his chest, "A tempting offer don't you think?" his grin wide.
    ... Charming, really. Yuria watched his introduction to this Razul get passed over, eyes like red wine watching the shorter man speak to Luljeta; at least he was nice, if a tad...hmmm... sure of themselves. Yes, that would be the nicest term he could use for a first impression. Yuria ended his initial observation with a smile at Luljeta's introduction. "Simply invaluable really, best an understatment." He nodded, chiming in briefely before brining his attention to yet another group approaching.
    “Room for two more~?”
    Bowing slightly at their approach, Yuria recounted their names. "Angelica Klon and...Emmi Sapphire. Hmm, I realize you are transfixed on my dear friend, but it is good to see you Ms. Klon. I have a bottle set out just for you back at the Red Palace, should you like a glass." Yuria turned, bowing to Emmi once more before continuing. He hadn't met the famed Jeweler in person; they usually sent people for that sort of thing. But if the earrings in his very ears currently were any indication, he was a fan. "Ms. Sapphire, A pleasure to meet you in person. I doubt you remember the Honjozo name, but the Jewelery we ordered last quarter are simply stunning. Thank you again. Do you think I could commission you to encrust jewels onto a bottle or twelve? Money is not a problem. Not now obviously, but after this whole mission work is over." Bowing to the two women, he turned with all but a twinkle in his eyes. It was not often he could mess around like this, it was fun. "Well then, boss; as the one with the scroll, can the-" his question was cut short as yet another person -this time they literally came flying- came down and suggested a rebalancing; a fair point, one such he found himself nodding quietly. Ignoring Razul's extra comments for the moment, he echoed their sentence with his own. "As much as I would like to go charging as this one large group, balance it probably somewhat important....Razul, Are your...friends? Coming along? " His red eyes slid over to regard his posse, then back to Razul, smiling at the glittering man. "Luljeta wants you along, but i don't think we're alowed such an entourage even if you also took a scroll. Which, if you plan on joining us, is rather redundant."
    Running his hand through his hair, Yuria almost wished he was back at the distillery, or in the lab. Or in the cellar. Or anywhere. This team forming was getting kind of complicated. "The idea of a strike force is good, however. Good job, Lule."
