Rhys Whitlock | Forsaken Dawn Guild Hall, First Floor

While it didn't show, Rhys was relieved when Scarlet spoke up in favor of the second quest. Rabbits didn't sound very dangerous but he had never hunted a day in his life and the prospect of chasing down dozens of little fury escape artists was tiring to even imagine. Besides he had some experience when it came to guarding people and was just as eager to discover new mysteries as the dark elf appeared to be. “Danger often rears it's head when you least expect it, surely that's why the client is willing to pay for our assistance.” He voiced his agreement, “He would make for a resourceful ally indeed.”

The comment had Rhys question his relation to Akar, where they friends? Acquaintances, certainly. He knew the man better than anyone else in the room and could trust in the fact that Akar would use his considerable skills to grow in power and further the goals of the Mercurius family. Yet, would the dark elf be willing to help without personal gain? Would Rhys himself do the same for his former traveling companion now that he yearned for more than the simplistic duties of a living shield?

Before the thoughts had come to a conclusion the tall stranger, whom had healed the black&white earlier, approached; more company following in his wake. The mans jovial attitude and rumbling voice made him easy to like, taking away from the otherwise intimidating height. Even if the sudden question pushed Scarlet to awkwardly explain their curious glances. She managed to recover before Rhys was able to put a steadying hand on her shoulder but still seemed a bit overwhelmed. With a shake of his head Rhys stated, “Hardly. It's actually comforting to see others so well attuned to him, as we have more in common than meets the eye.”

As fate would have it Akar had chosen this moment to make his entrance, garnering a respectful nod from the undead. “Your concern is appreciated.” again the grave tone of voice hid his emotions but coming face to face with the dark elf had helped Rhys reach a conclusion, that they were indeed friends as far as he was concerned. “It appears I'm still most accustomed to dealing with those who call the Madwood their home. This is Scarlet, she is also a practitioner of the necromantic arts, though she has not yet had the fortune of making the acquaintance with one of her own. I actually intended to remedy the situation by introducing you.” The following attempt at a reassuring smile in Scarlets direction could very much have been interpreted as anything from bland to almost threatening.

Drawing his full attention from the first meeting of these two necromancers would have been difficult for anyone, but Gul managed as much with his lighthearted words, “You've learned to cook?” the words sounded incredulous even to Rhys himself, as his features contorted into a mask of confusion seemingly struggling with the simple concept.

de2hmne-1e1f81b5-659b-48d7-a060-a631473aaed6.jpgScarlet felt sad for the skeleton and his lack of memories and understanding of his own being; for they were not likely due to any fault of his own. However, she still took solace in the fact that he at least seemed happy and unbothered by it. And much like Rhys she found herself interested in his statement about his ability to cook, wondering for a moment if he was a cook prior to his current state. It wasn't unheard of for old skills to be retained when a creature was brought back from the dead. Focusing on his other comment instead, Scarlet spoke up, "What is it you are a practitioner of?" She asked the man of bones, who towered over her more so than the others. "And I'd have say I have more experience befriending the spirits of the dead than that of other beings." She admitted in reference to Gul's comment about their lack of startle over his state of existence.

Turning her attention then to Akar, "I see this must be your friend then." She said more to confirm with Rhys than anything. She wasn't sure why, but the other dark elf also left her with a familiar feeling. Only this one sat uneasily with her and wasn't the same as the spirit she sensed in Rhys. This felt like a malicious force she had the displeasure of meeting in a time forgotten... and the smile on Rhys' face did little to quail the rising uneasiness Akar brought her.

Akar gave a slight bow of his head to Scarlet and everyone else who had gathered there as well, "Akar Mercurius. Pleased to make everyone's acquaintance." He said with a charming smile. "It is unfortunate to hear you have never met any of our kind before. It can be a lonely thing not knowing where it is you originate from." He stated to Scarlet and he supposed Gul as well, whom seemed to have no understanding of how he came to be. While his statements and expressions came off as genuine, in reality he really didn't care all that much. He needed more information on Scarlet and as for everyone else, they were either pawns or simply of inconsequence to him. He would 'go along to get along' so to speak. "Since we are all here, why not take on our first quest together?" He spoke to everyone gathered. "I have to admit that I, like our boney colleague, would prefer something that would guarantee a bit more danger and excitement." Akar then turned his attention to the quest board. "I can't say I've ever been one to enjoy tedious tasks such as hunting, and though I know plenty of escorting I much prefer to be the one escorted." He stated mulling over the different options. "I suppose the bandits might be a simple start... although... the Yaoguai also looks like a promising option as well... What do you all think?" He asked turning back to the group.

Luce was feeling a lot better, now that he was cleaned up and properly dressed. It was a three piece suit: red blazer and slacks, black shirt, red tie. It was distinctly two toned. He sighed to himself as he put his gloves on. No one had asked any questions about Phos' hands nor his rings, even though he'd left his gloves upstairs that morning. That means no one saw, or no one was paying attention. It made him wonder. Phos, do you even plan on telling? Probably not, it's not like there was any reason to. One story so recent, and one that's always been there to tell. That woman too, Stynger was her name? It was disconcerting that he made to befriend her as quickly as he did. She was intelligent, to a degree that would probably be able to insightfully call Phos out on his shit. That was the issue though, when she eventually does; just how fucking hard is he going to dodge the question? Luce was suddenly getting worried about how maybe, his being friends with her specifically could cause him to be comparatively secretive than he would've been had he talked to anyone else in the guild. He had half a mind to actually go with them, but no. He did have his responsibilities.

"Still though," He said as he made to the bottom of the stairs, back onto the first floor. "It's starting to look like I'm going by myself."

Everyone seemed to have strung themselves together in strong links of either three or four, and he was out of the loop. Goddamnit, I fucked myself. He pinched the bridge of his nose. It was fine. He could handle some lowly thugs by himself. He did one more once over of his equipment: Roulette, loaded and sharpened; speed loaders, one for each element; tie, eldritch knot. Looks like I'm off, though I should check in with Madame Luminara first. He found her at the quest board, talking a plan out to herself. Sometimes hearing it through your own ears is better than hearing it through your own head.

"Madame Luminara, did you need anything before I run off? I imagine Phos already asked, but I thought to check in myself."

Lilira was waiting at the quest board when Luce came by, he seemed dressed and ready to go, apparently, she guessed he had already decided on a quest maybe? He was asking her if there was anything he needed first. She honestly felt a little old when people called her Madame Luminara, she was only 27 which was actually a very young core half-elf although she supposed she did look entirely human despite her very elven name. Lilira looked up at him and smiled holding up a job listing to go and deal with bandits in the Dagger Wood, being a very short woman she was almost holding it over her head, at eye level at the very least "Oh, well I was going to ask you if you wanted to take this job with me, it doesn't exactly guarantee coll, but I would assume that bandits have to have some coll on them, probably a lot right?" She asked "But I guess if you wanted to do something with a little more guarantee I'd understand," She said putting the listing away "Oh you were asking if there was anything I needed? Well, nothing really that I can think of at the moment, your brother offered to cook the next meal so I'm not entirely clear on what you mean?" She asked. "As you can see I was going to head out myself unless you wanted to come," She said "Well I mean I'd still head out it would just change rather I went alone or not," She said.

That was... weird. Headmistress of the guild, questing by herself? Kind of rude, isn't it? Yeah, Luce hadn't planned on going with her, but that's different. He wasn't going with anyone else. She asked him to join her, the same quest he was already going on. She didn't know that though, he was sure.

"Well, I'd be happy to join you, Madame Luminara."

He said it to get ahead--Social Darwinism and all--she wasn't sure what he was doing, so by making it seem like he's going out of the way for her she'll feel indebted to him. Of course, it wasn't like he would've said no had this not been the case, just the cherry on top he supposed.

"No doubt you could handle yourself against some bitchy bandits, but I better bust 'em up with you. Best not to leave any openings, yes?"

It would be best to let Khione take the lead. Zael only had known her for a brief few minutes, but he surmised that Khione would be more responsible than him. Zael remained ghosted by her side while she selected a job to go on. His head nodded to give a gentle affirmation for her selected mission. An ogre was not an unheard-of creature for him; the adventuring party that taught him encountered one in their travels. They were generally weak to fire and resistant to cold. Ogres also enjoyed superb regenerative capabilities. A deep cut was not an issue, but Ogre's could not recover a lost limb. He pondered whether Khione was aware of the elemental resistance when she chose the job. It would be best if the party were to discuss their combat capabilities on the road, to begin construing a plan. Of the party members that provided Zael tutorage, one was a human scholar with a vested interest in studying the inhumane races of the world. Katarina Helma had once theorized that ogres were intelligent enough to understand language given enough exposure. As an advocate for preserving all life, she always tried her best to negotiate when possible. Perhaps killing the beast was not the only way to mend the situation.

Their new comrade was a curious woman with a dark cloak and curious violet eyes. There was a feral quality to her features that puzzled and intrigued him; Zael would take the time to get introduced to her properly later. "If it's decided, just check one last time to make sure you have everything you need." With that remark, Zael left all of the guild members to attend to their own needs. Unlike many of his guildmates, Zael had no fancy weapons or enchanted items. The only relevant possession he had on his person was three health potions. Sharing would not be an issue, but he would be pained to part with even one due to the immense cost. After the guild members resolved all of their remaining obligations, the party departed en route to the deep mine.

...

The pop of electricity beneath the immense vessel was hard to grow accustomed to. Every so often, the rail would snap and roar abruptly. With each crack of static, Zael believed the train would derail and kill everyone on board. The scent of copper that permeated the vehicle was strikingly similar to that of blood. This quality of the machine did not serve to ease Zael's concern. The lightning rail was sparsely filled with patrons; Sterngate did not receive much foreign traffic. Those onboard the vessel appeared to be adventurers or miners. As a mining town, the appearance of an Ogre greatly hindered their ability to earn coin. Were that not the case, the lightning rail would be significantly more full. Despite the chill, Zael settled a hand on Khiones shoulder to help ground his nerves. It did not look like it was her first time riding one of these things, which was a source of comfort for him.

The two had taken the time to exchange names while on the parties' brief jaunt to the lightning rail. Zael had now known the cloaked woman's alias to be 'Black.' "Have you ever fought an ogre before? They have a pretty thick hide that tends to be weaker to stabbing than slashing. On top, of that, their skin also protects them from the cold. I'd say this mission's rank is pretty well-earned. Do you think it would be a good idea to pull it from the mine? With the four of us, it could get pretty crowded and hard to move around in there." The Ogre was a lot less scary to Zael than the lightning rail. Focusing on his goal helped to ease Zael's apprehension.

"Ya'know a friend of mine also let me in on a little secret; Ogres can be reasoned with," He claimed boldly with a wide smile gracing his features. "You see, Ogres are pretty complex creatures. Like an onion, they have many layers," He turned his voice low then as if he were revealing a perverse mystery. An ogre would not just disturb a mine without reason. If the party could unravel the reason, they can clear the mission without risk.

"Cheeky little pup."

Olivier let his eyes linger on the man—who he’d failed to name; he’d suffice to call him the Sword Summoner for now—as he dispelled his magic and went on his way. The situation was now well and truly diffused, but its resolution left a pit of longing in Oliver’s stomach. Their paths would cross again. One way or another. Until then, he’d need to kill something.

Olivier road the lightning rail like he was born to it. Legs crossed, face turned to the rapidly passing countryside as the great, metal tube thundered along.

"My dear, you don’t negotiate with vermin." The very notion was ridiculous. Ogres, goblins, kobolds, trolls. Tactless savages to be ground under heel, nothing more. Dismissing the idea out of hand, Olivier turned his attention from the view to his companions. Khione, and Zael—their rocky start seemingly put behind them—and a third: an enigmatic woman who identified herself as ‘Black’. Curious. He looked at each of them in turn, until—

"Gods above, are you feeling all right?" His voice a mixture of fabricated concern and true, naked amusement.

Olivier thought Zael looked absolutely dreadful, and almost told him as much. Was this perhaps his first time on the rail?

1619653627408.png Cyndoka smirked as she concluded that she would be taking the Harpie quest and was preparing to go up stairs to retrieve her bow and arrows, her maple leaf was already one her as well. But before she could get to her room she was stopped by Renaque who was telling her about the quest she was going on with a group of others, that was a bit unexpected, was she babysitting weaker members or did she want to go with a group. It was strange cause she thought she would do her first quest alone to gauge her abilities without help or something like that. Oh well, it didn't matter too much to her anyways she was getting ready to do her own thing as she set her arrow quiver and bow around her back she made her way back downstairs, with any luck she would only be back with a few scratches, a sinister smirk ran down her face as she assured herself that she would do just fine as she looked around the Tavern once again to see how everyone else was fairing before making her way to the Taverns exit to go one her first quest.

"Why yes I can cook, quit well even if I do say so my self." He said looking towards a confused Rhys. "I can see your having trouble with understanding how. Well you see I may not need food anymore but despite my hollow appearance I can still eat and taste." He proceeded to pull his flask from his pocket and took a swig. The toxin turned to smoke in his mouth and seeped into his bones. He returned the flask to his pocket and would of given a smirk if he could. "Thought alcohol no longer has an effect on me but poison seems to have a similar. Anything I eat simply 'poofs' into dust and then I absorb it. As for my combative talents, I know a bit of necromancy and earth evocation. I am also decently talented with an uncommon weapon, a length of chain with a large metal ball at the end." He said as he turned from Rhys to Scarlet. He also tended to fight dirty but he figured they'd figure that out eventually.

While Rhys and Gul had their casual chat, Akar had inserted himself into the group. While the new addition to the party seemed nice to him, he couldn't help but feel he had an ulterior motive, but worries like that only breed distrust and hate so he quickly dismissed the notion in his head. One thing of note was Akar's attitude towards Scarlet, Arcturus brushed it off as interest in their shared race, but perhaps it could be something deeper. Lovers, maybe? Arcturus thought to himself as he looked at how Akar looked at her, it was hard to read him. Whatever the relationship was, he was certain Scarlet did not reciprocate the feelings. Akar did, however bring up an important topic for the party to discuss, a quest they would go on, and while no formal party had been established within the guild as of yet, many of the others had already seemed to form separate groups within the guild.

Arcturus was mulling over the details on the clergymen quest when Akar suggested that the group take care of the simple task of defeating some bandits. Arcturus had dealt with bandits before, unlike monsters, they can vary much more widely, some groups even have multiple magic casters and are coordinated. Despite it being a C-tier quest Arcturus wasn't quite confident about it, but he was much more confident in dealing with bandits than chancing the groups lives on a Yaoguai. Maybe if the group was more experienced in working with each other he could be willing to take the chance. He spoke up, voicing his thoughts to Akar, "While I do appreciate a good ol' testing of limits by trying to do something grand on first appearance within the guild. I think we should stick to the simpler mission, after all, we need some time to work on how well we work with each other, test the water."

He wasn't sure what he'd expected but the meeting between the two unequal elf's was a civil affair, Scarlets word promoting him to confirm her claim with a nod. Meanwhile Akar, was his usual self, comforting words easily tumbling from his lips before he turned the conversation to the business of questing. The dark elf was competent without doubt, but perhaps he was reaching even for one of his skills to pluck an S-tier listing from the board. Still there was a matter which preoccupied Rhys mind for a moment longer.

You can eat and taste food?” He shook his head incredulously at Gul statement, “That is rather unexpected, but explains the choice of learning how to cook! Its reassuring to hear you bring considerable combative talents to the table as well.” During the short exchange the others had discussed the viability of Akar's chosen quest. It seemed not everyone was quite as willing to place their well being into the hands of strangers by going up against a dangerous foe like the Yaoguai.

Once Arcturus had spoken Rhys ventured, “Agreed, while the Yaoguai certainly makes for a respectable test of skill...” catching a glimpse of White descending the stairs back into the common room, bow and arrow casually added to her equipment. “I believe this one has chosen a foe more befitting of an first foray into adventuring.” the undead gestured toward the woman in white. “Shall we see if she has need for company?”

With measured steps Rhys strode straight toward Cyndoka, stopping a few feet away as not to uncomfortably tower over her. “It may be a bit late but would you be willing to entertain the idea of a traveling companion or two? While you do look well prepared, there is seldom harm in bringing an additional blade into the fight." this time he did not force any kind of expression and instead simply waited; carefully studying the woman in white.

Akar shrugged, "I suppose you do have a point." He stated in response to Arcturus's comment on how it may be too early to take on such a challenging quest without knowing each other's fighting style yet. Having just left White, Akar felt it might be strange to approach her once more in search of someone to quest with, and they had already made plans to take something on together later on. So he turned his attention once more to the quest board, recalling the baker's ability to heal Black and White and considering the fact that Gul is already dead, Akar pointed out another quest, "How about this one?" He asked the remaining three, pointing to the sick clergymen quest. "Our boney friend would have nothing to worry about as he is already dead... in a way. And I doubt he can get sick. And I have already seen your skills in action when you healed White and Black this morning." He said to the two other men. "While my magical skills may be of little to no use, a third mind is better than two." He then looked to Scarlet. "I'm sorry to say I do not know any of your skills and how they would apply to this quest." Ignoring the fact that he didn't exactly give them the chance to accept or decline his offer to quest together.

Scarlet watched as Rhys moved to talk to the woman about the Harpies, she made move to follow him when Akar spoke. Pausing in her steps to listen and out of not wanting to be rude, she turned her attention back to the man. However, she once again found herself uneasy under his gaze despite his kind voice and features, she couldn't seem to get past the discomfort his presence brought her. Quickly thinking of an excuse she spoke softly in almost a whisper "I-I'm not sure my skills would be of much use in such a quest. It seems a tad overkill to have four people group together for it."

Akar let out a light hearted chuckle, "Nonsense!" He exclaimed throwing an arm around her shoulders. "Four minds means we are likely to solve the mystery all that much quicker! And you haven't even told us of your skill. Whose to say they won't be of use?" He questioned.

Shrinking herself to try to wiggle out from under his arm Scarlet responded once more in a soft voice, "A-at most I might be able to suppress the effects of something... So I don't see how that would be of any benefit in this case." She once again glanced in the direction of Rhys, wondering now how it was the two men could possibly be friends when they seemed so vastly different.

Despite the response, Akar continued to push the issue, refusing to release Scarlet and acting oblivious to her discomfort. "Oh come on! Don't leave us hanging.... We have no idea what we might find there, for all we know your ability could be the perfect solution." He wouldn't relent, this was an opportunity to see what she was made of. Her ability to solve problems with something other than just magic or muscle was important for him to know as well.

1619738976964.png Cyndoka was just about to head towards the door when suddenly a imposing looking figure stepped in front of her, before she could ask what he wanted though he then went on to state his purpose. With a slight chuckle to herself she figured there would be no harm in it, besides it seemed like the journey may take a while anyways and having someone to talk to would make it less boring, maybe. Plus he did look strong enough to hold his own without her having to baby and protect him, so it seemed like if anything he could pull his own weight and maybe earn that reward for completing the quest. "Sure, I don't see why not, besides you look like you could probably hold your own." she then went on to lightly punch him in the arm in a playful manner. "I was just preparing to leave right now, so if you got anything you need to get first then I would suggest doing it now, wouldn't want to have to focus on protecting you all the time just cause you came unprepared."

An annoyed exhale of breath puffed from between scarcely parted lips. Vermin was not a kind word to refer to the critters merely because they were not blindly benign. In Zael's experience, most confrontations with the aforementioned 'vermin' began with human aggressors; They were not beasts that fought or killed without reason. The only source of separation between beasts and men was that humans had a slightly more remarkable brain. "It hurt people, so I understand why killing it is a reasonable conclusion. I only think it is best to want to explore all possible options," He retorted to his two murderous companions. Zael slumped further down in his seat and crossed his arms in defense. At the least, Zael set his mind on investigating the circumstances surrounding the mission further. His only concern was that his comrades would not exude the same patience.

"Oli, it's nice to know you can be somewhat sweet when you're not trying to murder me. I only wish that you'd extend that kindness to the poor Ogre. Act more like Khione-- unlike you, she's chill," Zael's tone brimmed with adventitious banter.

"Y'know Black, that alias is pretty lame. How about I call you Meowuigi instead? Or maybe Mittens? Don't worry. I'm just 'kitten!'" He reached out a hand to pat Black on the head. However, Zael remembered that she carried an enormous scythe and thought better of it.

"Not to worry, Sir Lyonesse. I'd be 'lion' if I said I forgot about - " The crack of the lightning rails' engine spooked him enough to send Zael an inch out of his seat.

"Right, right. I'm fine, Oliver. We were talking about the Ogre." He drew his limbs closer together and cast his gaze downwards. His eyes became fixated at the center of his palms to help keep calm. So long as he focused on the big, hairy, cave-beast, his nerves would remain steeled. "If you're that fast, Black, you should focus on luring the critter out of the cave. Oliver and I can pin the Lil Guy down when he steps out. Oliver can use his invisible growly creatures to pin down their legs. Then, I can use my magic to restrain its hands," Zael drew his fingers into a tight-nit fist. He then brought it down with a ceremonious smack on his open palm. "That's when Khione comes out and pierces its heart! Boom-- suddenly its regeneration is irrelevant."

"If you're too scared, I can also be the bait. But, that's if we can't find a better way first," The cadence of his voice became more confident at the prospect of preserving the Ogre's life. In his head, Zael retraced what he could recall of the job's description. The mission description implied that the Ogre was not a regular occupant of the mine. The report indicated that the Ogre entered the mine to enact their fury. That would mean the beast held reason in doing so. It was a hopeless struggle on his part if the opposite was true. That is, the Ogre saw the mine as its home. At that point, the interest of man-kind would supersede that of an Ogre.

Gul saw the the clear discomfort on scarlets face and in the way she acted. He wasn't one to act harshly but this elf seemed to not understand what no was. 'Yeah, no. ' He thought as he walked over and loomed over Akar, his shadow fully covering the man as he leered down at him. He placed a hand on his shoulder and gave a gentle(not really) squeeze. "I do believe you are causing this fine lady distress, so if you would be so kind as to unhand her." He said in a tone much lower and with a more obvious echo. Two bule dots could be seen in his eye sockets where as before they were simply dark pits. He let his magic flow through his hand as he started to ready his rot bolt in case Akar tried something. "I would be interested in joining as well if you have room for a slightly dead man miss White." He said as he never broke his glare at Akar. "A man of the cloth may not take kindly to one such as me and as I've said before, outside of a rumble I ain't to talented unless I'm cooking."

As far as Lilira was concerned, she was helping him out so rather or not she'd feel indebted to him afterward was yet to be seen. Of course, she didn't know this was his goal or motivation. "Well, I thought it was nice of you to help Kai and Zael...even if...your brother wasn't exactly happy about it, but between you and me, not trying to start strife or anything I think he may have also needed a reason to get you out of his hair for...other reasons," She said laughing as she assumed Phos just wanted to be alone with Stynger without his brother possibly embarrassing him.

"Besides I wanted to try and get enough coll to buy a linkshell. You know what those are right? It's this giant oyster that makes multiple magic pearls that allow people to communicate with one another across long distances as long as the pearls were made by the same oyster, I figured it would help when we're out doing jobs so that everyone can keep in touch," She said.

1619757173025.png Cyndokas attention shifted to a skeleton figure who seemed to be a bit hostile with with the dark elf boy Akar, she honestly didn't understand why they were glaring daggers at him but she didn't really think it was any of her business. She never really worked with a skeleton like figure before, she was more use to destroying them rather than working with them, but she supposed that he was a guild mate and that she should be willing to work with them all if necessary. Besides he may prove valuable even since harpies can't claw up his skin if he has no skin, still though he could still be destroyed if not protected but she was sure he would be fine if he was ok with going with her on a A class quest. "Alright, you can come with us as well, I was just planning to leave right now so I would suggest you hurry up so we can get to the Ringbriar already, we could likely take a ship to get to Moonwatch at the very least and then walk the rest of the way there." she said that mostly in a attempt to defuse the tension between the skeleton man and Akar, though she did take out her Enchanted Maple Leaf from the inside of her stockings, completely ready to use it in case she needs to bust a bit of sense into peoples heads.

Luce chuckled at her insinuations. From a distance--and maybe even close in--it might seem like that, but no; Luce knew better.

"Besides I wanted to try and get enough Coll to buy a linkshell. You know what those are right? It's this giant oyster that--"

Luce's stance became... distant, as he tuned the rest of her words out. He was naturally distant, so whether or not anyone would notice was up for grabs. He put his hand in his pocket, his weight asymmetrically distributed over his right side.

"A linkshell? Right, I think I've heard of one of those," In his pocket, he was clutching a linkpearl of his own. "Well, if you're looking to get us one, we should probably be off, huh?"

Luce figured he'd reach out a little later, see how they're doing.

It was an unexpected interaction, so unlike the more formal meetings he'd experienced both in the Madwood and during his travels that he wasn't sure how to respond beyond a grateful nod. The notion of someone protecting him was novel in many ways, though he didn't dislike it. “I will do my best not to fall short of your expectations. Though perhaps we can purchase some form of net along the way? I fear bows have proven too finicky for my touch.” the undead spoke before noting the growing discord behind him. “If you'd be kind enough to grant me a minute...” with a small gesture toward the group.

It wasn't like he needed a lot of gear from his room, it was easy to pack when neither food nor sleeping arrangements mattered. Yet Rhys felt a sense of responsibility for introducing the two dark elf's and lacking social graces be damned the shift in Scarlet's tone was unmistakable. Voice raised but devoid of judgment Rhys addressed Akar, “I've not known you rely on others much, do you expect the clergy will cause you trouble enough to require the assistance of one unaccustomed to their ways? Her skills might be better suited to hunting for the time being...”

The fact that Gul was trying to solve the situation in his own way was as much relief as agitation; as Rhys would not have allowed another to approach Akar in such a manner just days before. Resisting the urge to physically intervene he added, “Either way I believe we all should gather our gear and perhaps change into something better suited for travel.” The last part was directed at the dark elf whom clearly had not dressed for a long distance traveling. “If you are interested it seems the lady in white is eager to get started and has already taken it upon herself to plan a traveling route. I'd rather not test her patience any further.”

Lilira left with Luce down the road, she supposed they could take the Lightning rail to Wroat though the trip would be much easier and shorter if they could just make their way across the river "I know this is getting a little ahead of ourselves but we should probably look into getting a boat, the trip would be so much shorter if we could just cross the river," Lilira sighed as it seemed like a missed opportunity "I suppose taking the lightning rail to Wroat might make things a little shorter than walk in the whole 600 miles to the Dagger Wood even if we do overshoot the path across the dagger river a by a bit. I have enough coll for the initial ride and another once we get back, I can do that much at least," She said, walking pretty fast, it was actually unclear if she actually noticed or if she just normally walked that fast all the time. Sure to some it might have seemed odd for the guild master to take jobs but she wanted to pull her weight and help out and not just be the lady that owned the building, besides her father wasn't the type of person that just sat by and let others do all the work for him either.

Gul nodded once at Akar and gave a single sharp squeeze before letting go and stepping away from the man. He the looked towards Scarlet and gave her a gentle pat on the shoulder before turning to Miss White. "I just have to grab my weapon and we can be off." He said as he walked up the stairs and towards his room. He sighed to himself as he entered his room and went over to his ball and chain and looped the chain around his arm a few times before throwing it over his shoulder and left it dangle down his back. 'I wish that hadn't had to happen but I'm glad to see at least he ain't to unreasonable.' He thought as he excited his room and headed back down stairs. "Welp that's all I need ready to go when y'all are." He said a he rejoined the group.

Akar put his hands up, releasing Scarlet as he responded to Gul. Ignoring the stinging discomfort from where the skeleton gripped him, Akar did his best to stare the man back in his now glowing eye sockets, "I apologize, I suppose I was a little too eager to make her acquaintance." He noted to himself, then and there, not to cross the man of bones. While he might not admit it aloud or show it, the skeleton did well at intimidating him.

Turning his attention to Rhys, Akar spoke once more, "You are correct. It seems I failed to consider such things in my haste. I shall take better care in the future to be less oblivious to such things." He did his best to give a reasuring smile to those gathered around him. "Maybe I ought to take on a quest on my own for today. Unless you are still interested in teaming up?" He said with a nod to Arcturus.

As Akar spoke to the two men, Scarlet moved away from him mouthing her thanks to Gul and then in turn to Rhys. Once she felt she put a comfortable amount of space between her and Akar she responded to Rhys, "I would be very interested in accompanying you both, if it is in fact okay..." She stated looking to the woman in white whose acquaintance she had yet to make. "I'll gather my things while you decide. I would hate to take up your time anymore than it has been, and I believe I need to change clothes regardless." Rhys suggestion had made her suddenly aware that she was still dressed to spend the day at the beach.

Slipping away, Scarlet scooped up her forgotten books and made her way to her room. It didn't take long for her to change into tight black pants, and a black top that lacked much in the way of sleeves besides a few fabric straps. Turning the crystal this way and that she gave a small sigh, focusing enchantment energy into it. When going into a fight it would be more difficult for her to keep up her enchantment; should it fail then she would have the crystal as back-up. Looking at herself in the mirror she focused on her own eyes as she let the enchantment drop. Watching as the edge of her eyes began to turn black until eventually all that stared back at her were two black orbs. A sinister smirk crossed her features briefly before the enchantment in the stone snapped to life stuffing the darkness back down. Her smile faded and the black in her eyes slowly gave way to white. With a sigh of relief that the crystal was in working order, Scarlet once again pulled her enchantment into place before slipping on her boots, strapping a pouch to her thigh, and grabbing both her knives and sword. Satisfied, she returned downstairs to Rhys, Gul, and the woman in white.

"Sadly, I have only just begun to learn the art of healing evocation, handling diseases is far out of the realm of my power, best I can do on that end is clear up congestion or an upset stomach." Arcturus replied to Akar as he stated his magic might be useful for the case of the clergymen. Arcturus' usual happy expression turned cold as he looked towards Akar, who at the time had a grip on Scarlet, Gul had, once again in all of his proactiveness, had taken a hold of the situation. Arcturus had quickly grew to respect the Skeleton man. Arcturus stayed silent as he let the scene play out, had the other already had not taken initative, he likely would have. When the groups had split off he turned to the Akar who had just asked him if he would be willing to join up. "I don't know your reasoning for acting that way but I don't care, your hostile attitude has put a bad taste in my mouth." Arcturus replied to Akar's inquiry. "Don't misunderstand however, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and believe this to be a one off case, and seeing as you already apologized I sincerely hope it was just your eagerness."

His eyes were sternly looking at him as he had begun lecturing the man with a rambling speech. "It would be best if you keep your distance from the girl for a minute, you seemed to have sparked a sense of discomfort between the two of you. Do keep in mind they are going on a dangerous mission, I am sure they would like all the help they can get." He began walking away to his room to go change, he kept talking as he exited. "It would be best not to burn the bridges of companionship so early, so perhaps find a way to quell the issues you introduced." He quickly went upstairs and changed. nearly a minute later he walked out of his room with a bag, his armor, and a giant axe. He walked over to the group of Scarlet, Rhys, Gul, and the Woman in white he had healed earlier, and inserted himself into the group without a word. He turned to the group and stated. "I will also be accompanying you kind companions." He didn't ask, so perhaps it came accross as rude, but it wasn't the least bit intentionally rude.

Oli, it's nice to know you can be somewhat sweet when you're not trying to murder me..."

"I already apologized! What more do you want?" Olivier asked, seemingly shocked that they were still on the subject of the day’s earlier drama, having all the air of someone who’d simply brush off the event had the roles been reversed. Apparently, threats of death were no great deal in his view, and in fact, Zael was being the unreasonable one by continuing to exhuming the past. Olivier had moved on. On to bigger, better, and—if he knew anything about ogres—uglier things.

Olivier listened to Zael’s plan of attack. As far as plans of attack went, it wasn’t bad. Olivier couldn’t deny that his puns were equal parts off-putting and entertaining (particularly the moment when Khione decided to take matters into her own fist), and he found himself ensorcelled with the sheer ridiculousness of it all. Empathizing with an ogre? Olivier was beginning to get accustomed with the idea, if only because of how utterly awful it was. His morbid curiosity could barely contain itself. He might just have to see this through.

"Well this ride has been simply... Illuminating, but..." Olivier uncrossed his legs and smiled glibly at the trio of his peers. "I think we’re arriving now." Olivier nodded out the window as the lightning rail began to lose its momentum. When at last the rail stopped, he smirked and added,

"Shall we?"

"Fuck!" Reed boomed as he scrambled out of bed. He had arrived just as the sun was beginning to show and planned to get a few hours of rest in, however he got a few more than he had planned. Running his fingers through his hair in place of a comb, he then pulled on a pair of brown leather pants, a white tunic, and a pair of black boots before strapping his sword to his hip and bounding out of the room. By the time Reed reached the bottom of the staircase he found the floor mostly devoid of people, the only remaining bunch looked to be headed out on a quest; except for the dark elf standing at the quest board still. With a defeated sigh Reed picked up a piece of bread covered in some odd spread, and made his way to the board. He was unsurprised to find a majority of the higher paying quest already taken. Examining what was left, Reed reached out and plucked the brewers quest off the board. "Seems simple enough." He stated to himself more than anything. Taking a large bite out of the toast, he made his way to a nearby table and began taking a closer look at the details of the quest.
