Fantasy For King and Country! [IC][OPEN]

Raku

Four Thousand Club

It wasn't surprising when word reached Raya about the Fuerini attack. King Gerard had sent some 1,200 troops to attack a Solairan village on the border and set up a camp there. The messenger said that the highest Fuerini general was sent along with her right hand man as a testament that Gerard didn't fear losing them, and the messenger also said that a group of about 150 soldiers were moving towards another village not far from the first. Little did the Fuerini know that the Solairans were ready. They were already setting up an ambush along the path. The war has finally started.

Needless to say, Raya was not surprised at all when a runner came to him with news of an attack by the Fuerini. Apparently Kilman sent is top dogs too. Great. Raya knew this was going to happen, so he took some troops closer to the border. There was some good news though. The Fuerini sent some troops down one of the roads towards the village they are near. "Well, at least there's a silver lining. Alright folks we need to move quick. Elves, take up positions in the trees along the road. Harpies and dragons, help them. Orcs and larger Beasts, take point in cover. After the elves finish their first barrage you move in. All others hide in the tall grass beside the road. Heads down until I give the go. They aren't going to know what hit them" he ordered quickly. He turned to Malori, his second. She was a formidable ally for her age. "Malori, you're with me. Once everything is in full swing we move in to end it" he told her. He grabbed his swords and twirled them quickly before returning them to their sheaths.

The winds were calm as it blew through Malori's cloak, it was a warm day so the cold breeze was soothing on a her skin. She stood beside Raya, the first in command of the Solarain army as he barked out an order to the troops. "Ambush?" She muttered giving a slight smile. She plucked her dagger from its sheath at her hip, the jewel embedded into the hilt becoming a faded blue. It began to shift purple until finally red, a sign that it was ready for souls to be given to it. She glanced up when she heard her name, Raya had spoken to her, They were to be the last ones going in to ambush. She tilted her head, frowning but nodded, if he ordered it so then she would do it. The dagger slid back into the sheath an agonized whistle coming for the jewel as it turned back into a dormant blue. "Soon." She patted the dagger as if to soothe it.

(I should probably specify that this occurs at a different location as from the current battle at the ambush.)

"In the defense of all goods things, a man must be willing to take up arms and destroy his foe with a zealous fervor. He must desire to defeat his enemy, to view them as a threat to everything, if true victory is to be achieved." Viktor recited. "Remember these words, my countrymen, for in time, you will fight on the frontline in our glorious crusade against the heretics. This is our time, warriors of the Eagle, and we will seize glory in the name of the gods." The Fundamentals of War was a book viewed almost as holy by the Isenblood family, taught to the sons and daughters destined to bring glory to the family. Now, the Fundamentals of War would prove more useful than ever before, when the fate of the nation relied on the strength of warriors. The Isenblood family owned a decent amount of land in the south, and enjoyed control of a number of key trade routes. It made most of it's wealth through war, and therefore could afford to give its troops some of the finest weapons, armor, and equipment in Fuerin, along with some of the best sergeants in the south.

In a small meadow 20 miles north of Annath Remil, a council of captains and lieutenants await their orders from Viktor. 'Basic plan is this: I lead the Hammer against their line, Eagle stays behind and covers us, and the Wolf flanks around once we pin down their infantry. Wolf is to destroy their cavalry and then wipe out their marksmen. Once done, the Hammer punches through the center of the line and then wipes out the flanks. Ready lads?" Viktor said. With a nod, his commanders spilt up and joined their respective troops. Unlike his more brute comrades, he did not like to use a primitive frontal offensive with all his troops. The lives of men were not to be wasted. Picking up his silver-plated hammer, Sigma, he joined the elite Crimson Guard as they marched towards the pre-designated position on a hill near the enemy lines.

The foe was a division of traitorous humans and their supernatural masters that were preparing to attempt an incursion into Fuerin land. Viktor, though originally tasked with merely guarding some bridges in the west of the country, saw a chance to earn an early victory against the foe and earn glory for his family. As his men marched up the forested hill, he tapped into the Way of the Eagle, and beheld the enemy just beyond the top of the hill. Archers were set up with some guards at the base, which was a relatively open road. Their cavalry was scouting the right flank, where the Order of the Blood Dragon was located. "Do it, now." Viktor whispered. Soon, the horn of the Red Eagle sounded along the line as the Crimson Guard rushed over the hill, slamming into the unprepared enemy. Blades cut through flesh on both sides, the cries of men dying echoed across the field. Arrows and bolts from both sides thudded into men and beast alike, and in the distance, the neighing of horses grew loud. The Fuerins were hard-pressed to punch through the center, and soon, the superior skill of the Solarians began to push them back. But Viktor wouldn't take a step back. His blood-stained hammer glowed like the sun as he sent a burst of fire into the enemy lines, clearing a path in the center for his men to push through. "Plow through!" he roared.

The final deathblow for the Solarians was the arrival of the grim-faced Order and the knights of the Isen. Their steel lances cut through the rear of the enemy, and soon, a complete rout occurred. But not one traitor would return to their homeland, for all fell to the cold steel of the Fuerin forces. "Today, we kill them on our borders. Tomorrow, we kill them in their capital! Death to Solaria!" Viktor shouted. This was going to be a glorious war.

War was a somber thing. War against supernaturals was a dreadful, scary thing. Still, none of the anxiety could be seen on General Woods' stone-like features. She would not let her personal thoughts sway the morale of her men. The King had decided they shall invade, so invade they shall. Corrine had argued against her king when the discussion arose. There was still too much they didn't know about the other side, and the land was too mountainous and strange to most of the soldiers. He had been insistent and aggressive, and she could only argue against her King for so long. So here she was, leading her men and second-in-command into the beginning of what would be a very difficult war.

The briefing included Gnaeus and she, where she asked for all information he had on any sort of supernatural. She had spent the time after rotating the information throughout the rest of the army, insistent on everyone doing their homework. In the mountainous and temperate environment, an ambush was always possible, too, and everyone was reminded to stay alert. She knew Viktor was further North, ideally defending the boarder but she was a calculative woman surrounded by aggressive men--her King, her subordinates, even much of her soldiers. Sometimes, it made her head ring in frustration, but she took pride in the temperance she offered the army.

"Keep an eye out for me," Corrine said to Gnaeus as he rode beside her. She squinted toward the horizon, cursing her eyesight which was no doubt hindered by her albinism. So instead of relying too heavily on her eyes, she kept her ears open and paid attention to her stallion's mood as she lead 1,200 troops into enemy territory.

War had finally come, and by the looks of things, it may be the last war between the human realms and the supernatural realms. Personally, Gnaeus did not harbour any ill will towards the supernatural beings, on the contrary he held them in high regard even though his family had been battling them for generations. Still, his duty was to serve the King no matter what, so here he was, riding next to a commander he had heard little about and riding to a place he knows even less about.

Corrine looked at him and said, "Keep an eye out for me." He nodded towards her and scanned the terrain, "As you order Commander." He looked back at the long colum of troops behind them, some of them he knew personally, others he knew about but the large majority of the force consisted of green troops, some who didnt even volunteer.

"I don't like this Commander Corrine, we are marching into enemy lands, with too little troops and most of whom barely know which end to grip their weapons with. I suggest we tighten the formation, move the baggage train up to the middle and send out more pathfinders. This area is the perfect place for an ambush. What are your thoughts?"

CIARDHA

Amongst the forces of Solaria that had been chosen to join in the upcoming battle against the advancing Fuerini forces was Ciardha and her sister Banshees from the Diarah Coven. Ever since she enlisted in the military all those years back, this battle would probably be one of the most crucial she had participated in. Scale-wise, the numbers were nothing jaw-dropping, being the defenders that they were against Fuerin’s invading force. However, with the advancement of their enemy’s Military Commander, it was a battle neither side could afford to lose. To do so would place them at a disadvantage.

Despite everything hanging on the outcome, Ciardha had confidence in Solaria’s own Military Commander, Raya. The Dragon had met every expectation she had and more, never letting his men down in any occasion. It was one of the few reasons she willingly followed his orders and not question his reasoning at every turn. The Second-in-command however, this Malori Hughes, was another question altogether. The demon was young, skilled though she was, but Ciardha didn’t really know her. Was she a capable leader? How would she act in the midst of battle? The Banshee thought today would be a good chance to see for herself.

For the duration of the army’s journey to their destination, her sisters acted as forward scouts in their true forms, ghosting over plains and through woodlands with nary a whisper. Still in her human-guise, Ciardha stepped towards Raya and Malori when the Dragon issued orders, staying a pace of so behind him until he finished.

“And where would you have my sisters and me, High General?” Ciardha questioned, her voice a raspy drawl. “In the trees with the elves? Hiding within the grass like the others?” A lazy flick of her wrist was used to indicate the groups of Supernatural beings that were already splitting off and moving out. “Or perhaps act as a diversion?”

Raya nodded to Malori. She new very well how they operate. Speed and surprise. As he was about to move along with the rest of his troops, he heard a familiar voice. It was Ciardha and her coven of banshees. He had almost forgotten about them. "You and your sisters will stay in cover until I tell you to attack. It'll be shortly after the soldiers move in" he told her. With that said, everyone had their orders. It was time to move out.

It was long before they could see the Fuerini force and they were already set up. Archers were in the trees, positioned where they had clear shots on the road. The bigger troops hidden in cover as they await to charge into the convoy of incoming enemies. Everyone else is low in the grass, just like snakes ready to strike their prey. Raya took cover as well. The dark forest helped with the cover. He was watching the road, waiting for the enemy.

Soon enough, there they were, and with perfect timing. Dusk was crawling closer and closer. One thing was wrong though. The number of Fuerini soldiers was much higher than what he was told. The ones he was told of must have averted. He only had 5 to 6 hundred troops while the force approaching appeared to be at least a thousand. Kilman is getting too cocky, even he should know this is a bad idea. Well, he isn't that bright so that may be why he's pulling this move.

The enemy was in position. They were close enough, the horses were starting to feel uneasy. He caught a glimpse of their commander. It was a woman. Pale skin, light hair, green armor. He's learned never to underestimate a foe by their appearance. She was out of the archers' line of fire, but the soldiers and heavy troops would be striking most of the convoy. Humans on both sides, but one had friends with them. Now was the time. The horses were on the verge of being spooked. Raya let out a loud whistle. Archers began firing. The ambush commenced.

She could feel the banshee's eyes on her without looking. She had never met a banshee before but her mother used to tell her about all the races within the Solarain kingdom. If she remembered correctly, Banshees were born into covens and very deadly in numbers.

Finally, Malori looked at the banshee known as Ciardha. The woman was looking at Malori as if she were too young to have the second in command position. She must be thinking my emotions will get the best of me and I won't be able to live up to my rank. She held back any retorts to the look the banshee was giving her. You won't be disappointed.

A while later, footsteps could be heard as horses shuffled along the dirt path. Malori crouched low, a short distance from Raya and the others. She hid herself away from the others to add to the ambush when she attacked from a different direction. She hoped they wouldn't see her coming as she withdrew her dagger, the jewel becoming ruby red. Her flesh began to darken as her demon blood ran hot within her veins, her hair turning midnight black.

Raya suddenly signaled the ambush to commence with a loud whistle, but Malori stayed back and waited a bit longer, calculating, as the archers began firing their arrows.

"We are here by order of our King," Corrine reminded her second-in-command. She didn't like it either, but she had to maintain absolute in their mission or risk losing morale and confidence in her soldiers. "But I agree that we must tread carefully," she added diplomatically. "Go ahead and relay those orders..." Her voice trailed off, her gaze flickering between their horses' swiveling ears. A shake of the mane, flared nostrils. Corrine looked up and around as she felt her horse misplace a step even though it continued steady.

She opened her mouth to command a halt the company over Gnaeus's words, but she was cut off by one haunting whistle. An eerie silence fell over the forest, seeming to stretch on forever. And then Corrine looked back to see the arrows as they struck into her unsuspecting forces. Some cried out, those with horses toppled over, and her heart skipped a beat. "Shields up!" she shouted, her voice nearly lost in the chaos. Though it only took the front of the train to hear and soon the rest were following suit, and the last of the arrows bounced back off the iron and steel. The arrows were coming from one direction, but the supernatural could be hiding any where about them. "Tighten up, spread pikes on either side of the train! They could be coming from anywhere, look alive!

"Gnaeus, I need you to take command at the end," she said quickly over the shouting. She would have been more comfortable to keep the man beside her due to his knowledge of the supernatural. However, a train of 1,200 soldiers was not a short one, and her orders were at best delayed to the rest of her company. A Commander and General on both ends would ensure unity on both halves of the train. As she spoke, she had taken hold of her small shield and now she unsheathed her sword, her eyes flickering about for signs of the enemy.

"Hold and prepare for the next wave. Do not give an inch." Orders given, she put on her helm: an open one to match the rest of her armor. Against human forces, she trusted without a doubt that her soldiers could defend and turn the tide against this ambush. However, the powers of magic and hellish beings were unknowns, and her heart raced with fear.

Settra was not at the site of the ambush but rather a good distance away so that he could set up and maintain his part of this ambush. That fool king knew his power but not the true threat he presented, but for long as he held Settra's phylactery he woudl have to obey but no king ruled forever and Settra would one day reclaim what was his. Today however, he woudl serve the fledgling kingdom in his own way with the power of death and undeath. Settra was in his mind the first human to ever master magic and the most powerful magic user to ever have existed and even in his current highly weakened state he was still nearly without compare when it came to knowledge. Thus it was that he knew just the spell to use for the coming ambush, and how to make it last, but he lacked to power to sustain it himself, where once it woudl have happened with but a thought. Settra knew when the ambush started because he had been watching over the field through the eyes of a crow waiting for just the right moment to make sure the two armies woudl be engaged before he started.

Now that the combat had started and the trap was sprung, Settra would set the trap inside the trap off. he stood and looked to the hooded figures around him their faces hidden by shadows as they stood in a circle around him, all 15 of them. These were mages hand picked by him to aid him with his casting when he needed it, they were his personal and needed cabal of acolytes and one day their faith and service would be rewarded, for settra had learned that his former generals failures had always messed up his perfect plans, they always turned on him or simply died he would stop that this time. As he stood they all looked to him ready when he was for the spell work.

" the trap has been sprung let us start our part Death to Fuerin" Settra said as he got into position and started the spell work

" and Death to the living" they said back showing they were coming to his thinking when the time came they would be made immortal, truly immortal. The mages woudl start their spell work channeling their power into Settra empowering him so that he could hold the spell together for a longer period. The spell woudl not be intimidate and Settra wanted to let it build up and infuse the land making the power linger long after he had stopped his casting he wanted those centuries from now to know what had happened and deal with its after effects. The power of death woudl slowly soak into the land where the ambush battle was taking place soaking into the soils, the rocks, the trees, everything was slowly given the power of death. this was just the first stage of the spell for this had no negative effects on anything simply charging the land for the massive spell. The second came in only when the land was charged with the power that would fuel the curse that Settra woudl lay upon the land. It was a spell he had made , his mark on the world from ages past it would bring the dead back to life in the area that was soaked with the dark power of death, but it wouldn't be a simple everything dead at that point got up, instead for long as death's power was upon the land it woudl continue to reanimate all who died there friend and foe. These undead woudl obey settra and attack his enemy their own dead woudl turn against them taking up their weapons and using them with more skill than the average corpse but nothing compared to the living, but they were harder to kill only fire truly got rid of them.

(I see that Nagash has come to save the Old World.)

In a Solarian town 10 miles northwest of the ambush, the Crimson Guard, wielding their longswords with pride, spearheaded an assault on the locals. Word had reached Viktor that the locals had supplied the defeated Solarian army with supplies, and so he sought to utterly destroy the enemy's supporters. He also sought to claim a stolen Isenblood relic, the Ring of Unwanted Steel. "Kill all in your path, make sure the Order is on the sides. Make sure only a few escape, and ensure that fear is the only thing they tell." he hisses. The slaughter that followed was swift and bloody. Piles of dead littered the streets, entire blocks went up in flame, and Viktor claimed his relic once more from the hand of the local Elder. "Move out, we push on back towards the general." he said. Some may call this brutality, Viktor called it part of war.

Arrows were falling around the front of the troop train, killing and wounding anyone who was ill prepared for it. There was shouting and confusion among some of the more green troops, but the veterans would sort that out easily, either way Gnaeus had a job to do. He donned his helm and drew his sword and rode back towards the rear of the colum, shouting out orders as he went.

"Prepare shields! Pikes make ready! Archers fire only when you can see the enemy!"

When he finally got to the rear he started forming them up. The majority of the rear guard was made up of the more elite and veteran troops, so they had already prepared themselves by the time he arrived. All he had to do now was wait for the enemy charge, and try and crush it as quickly as possible without losing too many men.

The storm of arrows had hit the enemy well. Soldiers were hit, some killed and some wounded. As expected, the Fuerini soldiers raised their shields and readied weapons, but the heavy troops should make quick work of those. Just before the arrows stopped flying Orcs and larger supernatural creatures charged out from the trees on both sides of road. Their shields lowered, the rammed into the convoy and began to engage with their heavier weapons; hammers, axes, maces, and clubs. Raya smiled. The ambush was going as planned. Soon after the heavy troops charged, foot soldiers armed with swords, halberds, and other lighter weapons and some shields came in after. Most of them clad in armor, they could take a hit. Raya turned his head towards Malori. "Soon we will join" he told her. Turning back to the battle, he remembered that the banshees were going on his order. "Ciardha! Take your sisters in now!" he ordered. The battle was in full swing.

Malori nodded to Raya, she was becoming curious as to why he wanted them both to wait until last to attack. Did he doubt her skills too? She shook her head |Stop it! That banshee is making you have second thoughts. Do as commanded!|

She hunched down lower as a Fuerin stumbled in her direction. An Orc was laughing as it approached the human. Malori' fingers itches to wrap around the human's throats but she stayed down.

Instead, after the Orc had smashed the human' skull in, she reached out and grabbed the human. Pulling him into the bush with her before anyone saw. She closed her eyes and whispered to Raya, "Cover me. Shake me when ready to attack." Before he could ask why she dropped her hands over the humans face and mumbled a shirt chant. The dead human's eyes opened, starched white and foggy, he rose and stumbled from the bush. Malori's eyes remained closed as she controlled the zombie like human. Her one weakness while using her necromancer abilities, her body was vulnerable while using her power given by her mother.

The human walked forward as Malori's tool to kill the humans. Was quite a sight to see the humans faces as their friend killed them.

Corrine watched as their defenses were quickly shattered by the heavy units--of course, a few of the large monsters still found themselves skewered on pikes and spears. But they were so thick and large that it wasn't uncommon for a pike soldier to suddenly be down to a sword, unable to pull the weapon from its weapon. Men on horseback were managing a little better, up to the giants' heights as they trotted about and landed what slashes and stabs that they could. Corrine followed suit, trying to keep aware of the battle as she struggled to keep from being knocked off her horse, as well.

She yelled fiercely, sticking her bloodied sword between the eyes of an orc who had just killed one of her soldiers before quickly being forced on defense as a mace smashed into her shield. Her warhorse trotted away as she reflected the blow and attacked back. The Commander was nearly distracted by a chorus of shocked yells, but she finished the foot soldier who had followed the wave of monsters far too eager. Red eyes turned to the source of the surprised cries and she felt cold when she saw a Fuerini uniform on the attack..on other Fuerini soldiers--was that the same one she had just avenged?

That's when she noticed that he hadn't been the only soldier to turn on his army. Ally and enemy alike who had been cut down dead were slowly rising, joining Solarian's ranks. "You demons," she cursed quietly, the thought of necromancy sending a shiver up her spine. She didn't have time to dwell, though, she needed a solution. Silver, salt, holy relics...Those were supposedly effective against the undead. As her mind raced, her horse suddenly cried out below her and the two tumbled to the ground.

Corrine shoved herself away as she fell lest risk a broken leg under the beast. She grunted as she hit the ground, but followed the momentum and quickly rolled onto her feet, eyes finding the soldier who had taken advantage of her distraction. He was thrice as large as she, his shield must have been as heavy. He was ugly and fat with muscle, his axe bloodied with her steed's blood. He sneered at her, but she didn't dare hesitate. Her first strike bounced off her shield, sending her reeling backwards. But she found her footing and easily danced around his heavy cut to stab up at his throat. She was thankful in that moment for her height; a smaller woman wouldn't have had that sort of reach even with a sword.

"Fire," she remembered aloud as he collapsed, only for the dark magic to slowly raise him again. "Fire will kill the undead!" she shouted to her soldier's ears about her. "Send word down, light the torches! Arrows! Our men are dead, do not hesitate to strike down anyone who attacks you."

She wished she was closer to the supply, but she knew Gnaeus would figure it out--he may have already.

"The scent of undeath is rich here, my friends. The traitors are here, and make war against my comrades in arms. They are too cowardly to fight us in open battle, so they ambush us! Perhaps we should give them a taste of their own medicine." Viktor said. The sound of combat drew him here, and now, he would make sure the sound of combat was ended swiftly by Isenblood steel. "Warrior of the Eagle, forth unto the fray!" he roared. With a thundering warcry, a mass of heavily armored warriors crashed into the rear of the Solarian forces. "Forth now, my comrades. Purge them with holy flame!" he shouts. Bursts of silver flame periodically burnt through small sections of the Solarian army with every swing of Viktor's hammer, and the sound of a horn signalled the charge of the Order of the Red Dragon and the knights of the Isen into the enemy lines.

The men were holding well, fighting off the ambushers well despite being caught off guard. From his spot in the rear Gnaeus could see clearly that the enemy was only attacking the upper and middle portion of the column, either they had too few troops to attack all of it, or theu attacked too soon, maybe both. Didn't matter, the more pressing issue was the undead, seeing fallen friend and foe fighting against you was enough to make most men panic, and panic was the last thing they needed.

"Archers! Focus on the undead! Use fire on them damn it! Or cut their heads off!" Soon the undead began to fall beneath fire and blade, the tide of battle was turning. As he looked to the front, Gnaeus saw that Commander Corrine had been removed from her horse. Gnaeus grabbed the attention of the few nearby heavy cavalrymen nearby and got them to form up behind him. He raised his sword and shouted "FOR THE KING! TO THE COMMANDER!" and spurred his horse forwards, his cry being taken up by the cavalry behind him, as well as some of the rear guard.

He chopped his way through the lines, killing any who got in his way and leaving those he couldnt kill to those following him. He soon got his way towards the Commander and looked back behind him. About half of the enemy forces were dead, wounded or routed, and the other half looked like they may break at any moment. He turned his attention back towards Corrine and gave a quick dalute, "Commander, the enemy seem to be few in number and they are close to breaking, what are your orders?"

Raya was not liking where this battle was going. It appeared that the enemy cavalry had shown up and he didn't know how much longer he could wait. Archers had shifted their fire to the newcomers and opened fire on them ( MorgathosTheRussian MorgathosTheRussian ). Although a large portion of the Solairan army wasn't considered unholy or demonic in any way, the holy flame still did some damage, and even more so to the demonic and unholy beings. Those who weren't unholy were recovering from the blast of holy flame, but we're fighting even on their way up. Either way, this was a problem. Raya has had enough. Fuerini numbers were dropping to more advanced Solairan weapons and armor, but there were still many more of the enemy. If he had to do an estimate, the Fuerini were cut down to about 7 to 8 hundred while Solairan numbers were down to about 300. It was time to turn this fight around. He reached over to Malori and shook her shoulder. "It is time for us to make this battle a victory" he told her as he readied for a lunge out of cover. Unsheathing both swords, he took a few breaths as he thought of what he was fighting for. Not his kingdom, but his family. With that, he jumped from cover and began his assault. By looks, other that his dragon-like forearms, legs, tail and wings, he was indistinguishable from a common rouge, not even looking like he should be here. It was his skill that screamed leader. He was slashing and stabbing his way through any Fuerini troops that dared attempting to fight him. With each enemy soldier that he struck down, the more that fear became evident on their faces. He grinned rather sinisterly as he fought along. Archers were keeping the cavalry suppressed while the foot soldiers were dealing with them on the ground.

Abana Abana

She could feel as her undead were killed, her mind being drawn deeper with each death until she was yanked from the dark void. She blinked her eyes open as Raya shook her shoulder, "This will be fun." She spoke without joy, but the emotion of anticipation ran through her mind as she slide her fingers around her dagger, unsheathing the blade.

She leapt from her hiding spot onto a human's back, digging the blade into his neck. The gem instantly turned red as it absorbed the human's soul. She continued this, absorbing more human souls, increasing her strength and agility in order to dodge her foes. She couldn't do this the entire time but she would do her best to not let her people down.

A large human aimed a blade at her and threw it, she ducked her head in time and threw her blade at him. He too dodged causing her jaw to drop, her speed was inhuman, how this human had dodged her attack was actually impressive. She sprinted towards him going for her blade as he pulled out his blade. She grabbed her dagger and turned to the human, "This will be fun."

Settra was annoyed that his undead were not doing as well as he would have liked it seemed that his allies were not all he had hoped, they never were. the so called holy flames were even more annoying for he hated the very concepts of holy and unholy for he surprisingly enough did not see things as good or evil he was beyond such things. Still he had other ideas for how to hamper the humans for while they might destroy his undead that still distracted them instead of having 2 warriors attack two of their own now they had one fighting the enemy and another having to deal with the undead. Settra would remedy this situation. The humans hearts might burn with fervor but they were just human and humans were weak, their flesh betrayed them and their instincts could be manipulated. Settra had lived a long time and in that time he had played with emotion and knew that the hardest to ignore was fear for it was the most primal and all consuming, fear of the unknown, fear of the other, fear of death, and punishment all could be used to bend people to ones will.

" We will bring the fear of death" He said to his slowly tiring mages they supplied him their power and he pushed them hard.

this was why they were hidden away from the fighting they would be targets if they were within sight the enemy would fight them first taking out the big guns while they were defenseless. Settra soon changed the spell instead of empowering the ward which woudl continue to raise the dead for months at this point to one that would prove more effective. This new spell that he laid upon his enemies would bring about the most primal and powerful fear they held for even the most stalwart of hearts could be broken when faced with the specter of death, if not their own then their loved ones. Yes Settra would bring down fear pure and powerful upon the humans. The fear would come in an instant at first it was a slight nervousness, then it became a distracting paranoia, then it became a consuming desire to run, then at last it was an all consuming need to throw down their weapons and flee. this made the easy prey. This would not affect them all for some could resist their own emotions enough to keep it from consuming them.

Corrine had held her ground well enough, but she couldn't deny the swell of relief she felt when she saw her third in command's forces appear over the hill. That was lucky timing, and she was thankful in that moment for Viktor's ferocity. It would raise the morale of every soldier on the field. The Commander turned to see her soldiers charging through the enemies and raised dead, lead by Gnaeus to reunite the force completely. She grinned, dirty and exhausted from the battle, but it was turning in their favor. Even with supernaturals and a surprise attack, it seemed Solarians were no match for the numbers of Fuerin. This was King Gerard's army, but it was also Corrine's. She had to suppress the rising pride she felt for now--the battle was not over.

Gnaeus asked for their move, and she hesitated as her eyes swept over the field. "Archers are still a problem, and the cavalry won't do," she mused. Her front lines had been scattered all about, but the shields would be necessary to deal with the ranged enemies. "Regroup our shields for a forward assault," she decided finally. However, it seemed new threats were popping up all over. Damned magic.

Screams and shouts started rising from one direction, and she could see a single soldier--even larger than Gnaeus--cutting down soldiers. Though it was more than that: some of her men were hysterical, suddenly fleeing. She called out to them to halt, but her words only seemed to get through to some. At the strange behavior, she found her own panic rising. What's going on? she thought, her heart pounding in her chest so loud that she could hear it over the war cries. "What is that?" she asked again, out loud to Gnaeus. Fear threatened to strangle her, but she refused to let it take her. The momentum was in their favor, and she had a war to win.
