The great land of Astoria. A place of legends and heroes, where battles are won with wit and how well you wield a blade. That's how the giants and dragons won their battles thousands of years ago. It's how the dwarves and elves conquered their lands and the cycle continued with the humans. 200 years ago, five ships arrived in the southern shore of Astoria, filled with hungry humans and tieflings alike. The elves who greeted them learned nothing of where they came from or why they were here. But one thing was very clear. None of them were leaving. The humans quickly established their first town, which slowly but very steadily spread into the strong empire they have today. The empire that's stolen lands from the elves and hunted dragons to near extinction. The empire that has seen the giants disappear and more demons roam the lands than any other. The empire who in only a few short decades is larger than the two nearly 5 times it's senior. Of course, they had to fight, and claw, and betray to claim the land they have now...but we aren't here for a history lesson, right my wee lambs?
The past ten years have been an interesting blip in the great history of Astoria. After the passing of the late king and the coronation of King Sebastian and his wife Queen Amalia, the human empire was on track to enter a new age of prosperity. For the first two years, the king was a kind and benevolent ruler, a man who wanted what was best for his people, the kind you always hope to get but rarely get. During those two years, they announced Queen Amalia was with child, and the empire rejoiced. It was truly a good sign. But things never actually turn out the way you want them to do they? Shorter after the princess was born, a few days at most yet nobody is exactly sure, she passed away in her sleep. The castle was dark for three days and three nights before the princess's funeral was held.
Understandably, the king wasn't the same after that, his heart grown cold, shut off. Not even the Queen could get through to him. And the empire suffered for it. At first, the people believed that perhaps it was just his broken heart, that after a while everything would return to normal. They slowly realized it would not. Taxes were raised, stricter laws we're set, foreign goods cost more to buy, and became much much rarer. Just in order to survive, many people had to turn to the military or other lines of dangerous work. King Sebastian has slowly begun to try and claim more land once again, more from the elves and reclaiming land given to the orcs as for now, the Dwarves remain untouchable. While his advancements have been subtle...it's clear enough that the elves and orcs know what's coming.
King Sebastian will cause war. A man blinded by what used to be grief, but now is just an insatiable lust for power and a steady fall into what would call madness. Not everyone can handle the weight of the crown and the people are prepared for the worst to happen. Already you may have noticed the changes. Dwarves returning home to Odelun. Elves leaving the human territories and trying to leave their contracts with the human military. All in preparation for what may or may not come, but we always prepare for the worse. Now the question is have you been paying attention? To your gods? To the land? To the people? There's a tension in the air, one that always leads back to the same question. What are you willing to do for Astoria?
Hello and thank you for reading this far! First and foremost I would like to apologize for the fact that introduction actually sucks, I am not the greatest at writing them, but regardless I hope you're still interested! If you couldn't tell yet, this is going to be a high fantasy, defeat the big bad evil guy kind of RP. And it takes a lot of inspiration from the Fable and Dragon Age series plus some RPs I've been in here on the site.
I've been working on the lore for this RP for the past two weeks now, and I'm really excited to hopefully get a good group and make a great story! I have quite a bit planned, and would love to hear suggestions and to even work with you to incorporate your characters stories into subplots. So if you're interested, and I mean actually interested and not going to just disappear after a day or two, let me know! Please read the rules first though. All of them. I'm dead serious about this.
General
- All Standard RPN rules
- Your character can be a dick, but you cannot
- This is going to have mature, possibly triggering themes, so please be careful
- Do not express interest if you are just going to disappear
- I expect good posts, 2+ paragraphs, good grammar, and literacy. I will not, however, crucify you for spelling mistakes, I post from my phone so it’s common.
- I am going to try and make sure each character gets their chance in the spotlight, whether it be defeating a strong boss or an entire subplot (that you can discuss with me). Anyone who tries to constantly keep their character as the center of attention and steal said spotlight from others will be warned. If you are a repeat offender, I will kick you
- This is a fantasy world! So, get creative, Mary and Gary Sues are no fun
- READ ALL OF THE FUCKING LORE, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH
- Read Rule #8 again
- I prefer drawn FCs for this type of RP
- While posting every day is not a requirement, I do expect at least one post a week, preferably more but I understand not everyone has that type of time. After two weeks of inactivity with no explanation, you will be kicked
- This isn’t first come first serve, I’ll pick who I feel work the best and will help make a good team
- I would like you to send me a writing sample before I accept your character
- You can play multiple characters, the limit will be based on how much interest this gets
- Seriously, Read rule #8 again
- Some of your character actions will have consequences, so keep that in mind
- Your character cannot dodge every attack. Your character also cannot hit who they’re fighting every time, especially if they are player characters. There has to be a balance.
- I would like for you to have creative freedom when it comes to weapons, so long as they follow the guidelines I have placed in the lore. If I feel like they don’t fit, I’ll let you know so an edit can be made
- No godmodding or insta hits
- While dice are not being used for this RP, some of your actions will be submitted to a random number generator by me oI a trusted member of the RP to decide just how successful it is.
- Big boss fights are going to happen! And the person that takes them down will change each time, I have a system to do so
- You are not impervious to damage, it’s not feasible that your character would walk away from every fight unharmed. And instant recover is not possible each and every time, sometimes, in fact, most of the time, you will need to deal with an injured character
- A small teenybopper teen will not be able to defeat battle grandpa who has 20 years more experience just because.
- While your race has a max number of spells they can use, it also depends on your age, the older you are the more spells you will know
- If any spell you pick seems overpowered, I will not allow it without editing. And then if editing does not fix the spell, I will not allow it.
- Please pay attention to what I have written in the lore, magic may be abundant but there are limitations for a reason
- Absolutely no godmodding or insta hits
- Any spells that involve possible forcing a reaction from another player character needs to be discussed with the target first. If anyone tries to break this rule or force a reaction regardless of what's discussed and agreed upon, there is a good chance I will kick you.
- Runes! Runes are free to use, but not every character knows how to make them. Not every character can use them successfully, and they have just as much of a chance to fail as other types of magic does. That being said, there are many different types of runes and so you have quite a bit of freedom. I will deny runes I feel are overpowered just like I do with spells
- Cross school spells are rare AF, and it for people who have spent their entire lives studying magic. Crossing schools (say having a fire spell and also a shadow spell) is fine. Spells like magma are going to be limited to the people who fall into that category
- Like weapons and armor, spells have their limits where it being range, power type, energy, time to cast, etc, etc. They will sometimes fail. They will sometimes be used against opponents who aren’t that affected. Keep this in mind
- If you've read this far, and read every single rule…tell me what your favorite fantasy game is and what class you normally play
