The Flor de le Mar was a very famous 400 ton displacement Portuguese carrack. For over nine years she participated in decisive events in the Indian Ocean until her sinking in November 1511. Nobleman Afonso de Albuquerque was returning from the conquest of Malacca, bringing with him a large treasure trove (value in excess of £2bn) for the Portuguese king, when the ship was lost off the coast of Sumatra.

Afonso de Albuquerque was saved in the most difficult conditions, using an improvised raft, but the cargo was irremediably lost. Also lost were more than 400 men on board. Flor de la Mar still lies undiscovered in the seabed.

Attempts to locate and salvage the shipwreck have been the cause of controversy. Portugal, Indonesia, and Malaysia all claim salvage rights. A replica of Flor do Mar is housed in the Maritime Museum of Malacca.

International Waters halfway between Hawaii and Midway Atoll

After over 5 centuries the Flor de la Mar was once more discovered. Contrary to historical accounts the ship was still intact. It was discovered by a US naval fleet headed for Japan. The USS Tripolli broke formation and launched a pair of assault helicopters.

One could only imagine the surprise as the US marines aboard when they spotted women aboard the aging vessel waving and trying to get their attention. Command thought it was some sort of April Fool’s joke. But eventually people started to get serious when the marines called in Search and Rescue officially. When the first rescue personnel arrived the women seemed grateful for the rescue, but insisted on having at least a pair of the men take a look at the cargo hold. The treasure was still there - intact.

More questions than answers.

The women insisted that the fleet could spare at least one ship to escort the Flor de le Mar back to a safe harbor (Hawaii.)

Now for the other side of the RP. In part, this will be a bit of a world building scenario. The world does NOT have to be exactly like ours. Flor de la Mar’s arrival smacks of fringe science, conspiracy and such. So they may have arrived in an altered timeline. Even the year could be altered a bit. (The ladies do have a backstory - in fact, one for each of them plus one for the group.)

You could be one of the marines that rescues the ladies. You could be an islander. You could be an archaeologist flown in to meet the ship. You could be the interviewer who interrogates all of them, or maybe the doctor who looks them over. You could be all of those. In fact, you should feel free to have one of more main characters, as well as whatever NPCs that are needed. (The marines are probably going to guard it as a national treasure claimed by Portugal, Indonesia, and Malaysia.) The ladies have no IDs. Let’s just say they may have a tall tale to spin.

Rules
Please be able to commit to posting at least 2-3 times per week.

Post should be about 300-700 words on the average. (450 is about a page in Google Docs)

Third person, past tense

Decent spelling and grammar.

The RP will be conducted in PM’s. Two threads - one for OOC; one for IC

Please be 18+. In fact, I would prefer someone already past their college days, but not so wrapped up in work and family that they can’t commit to an RP.

If interested contact me via PM.
