The Current Situation
Within this RP world there exist two kinds of people: humans, and Laguz. The humans are exactly what they sound like. They're human, plain and simple. The Laguz, however, are humanoids with the ability to shape shift into an animal form which greatly increases their lethality in combat. In human form, they're comparable to a regular human. But once in animal form... Watch out!
Because of the Laguz's deadly proficiency in combat in animal form, and the fear born of this reality, the humans have long persecuted and shunned the Laguz. In order to psychologically downplay the Laguz's strength and make themselves feel better, the humans opted to call the Laguz "sub-human," "monster," and other such names. This alone created quite a rift on its own, not to say anything of the numerous wars between humans and Laguz which resulted because of the ever increasing tension.
Today, August 7, 649 Common Era, there exists an uneasy peace between humans and Laguz. But there is a much bigger problem brewing...
Darkness never sleeps. A saying we all know by now. But who knew it held such truth?
There exist two realms beyond the Mortal Realm. They are the Higher Plane, the realm of the Gods, and the Nether Realm, the realm of Demons which are Gods in every way equal and opposite those in the Higher Plane.
The Gods of the Higher Plane exist as peaceful and benevolent beings who watch over and do their best to indirectly guide the mortals in the realm below as they struggle through life. Despite their best efforts, the interference of the Demons of the Nether Plane is what caused the negativity between humans and Laguz in the first place thousands of years ago. Because of this, the Gods of the Higher Plane have been trying to keep them at bay and protect what little peace exists between the two races. However, their efforts have been largely in vain.
The Demons of the Nether Realm have begun taking hold of more and more human hearts over the last few centuries. The imbalance between light and darkness in the hearts of mortals is reaching a breaking point in favor of darkness, and as a result the powers of the Demons has been growing at an alarming rate. Soon they will be powerful enough to breach the barrier between dimensions and flood into the Mortal Realm like a plague. If that happens, it doesn't take much imagination to understand the consequences.
However, if enough of the Mortal Realm's inhabitants can be persuaded and inspired to fight, then the Mortal Realm might just have a chance of survival.
And that's where our characters will come in. As the first band of multi-racial warriors, it will be up to us to convince the powers that be that the quarrel between humans and Laguz is already a lost cause, and that the pressing dangers of the Nether Realm is a far more serious threat.
How will we come to know that the Nether Realm is preparing to breach the barrier?
