Dice Fire Emblem Divide: History

HISTORY
Alrighty, welcome to History and the start of the Lore section! The most important part of this section is the Prologue. It's going to give you an overview of the world of Fire Emblem Divide and the events that lead up to the war that your characters find themselves in. The Previous Chapters section will, as one might assume, be where you can read up on the events of the previous Chapters of the game. That'll be handy for players jumping in after the game has begun, but for obvious reasons it is currently empty. In the Future Chapters section, I will post ideas about the scenario for the next chapter. If none of my ideas seem cool to you, feel free to suggest your own, and we'll have a talk about them in Conversation.

Once you're done here, you're gonna wanna head over to General Lore.

  • The Ancient World
The continent of Terrunum was once home to six regions: Aurhalz, Dinne, Komodo, Glypheim, Yuba and Malth. Peace was nonexistent between the six of them. Skirmishes and fights between regions were rampant and seemingly unending. It was during these chaotic times that kingdoms arose in each region. These kingdoms developed unique cultures and values and sought to defend themselves against invaders by training powerful armies.

Some of the kingdoms prospered and rose to power, while others fell short and into ruin. Without the threat of their neighbors looming over them, the most powerful kingdoms grew to advance their societies. In Dinne, societal progression was fueled by the discovery of magic: an innate force permeating the world that would change life forever in Terrunum. The ancient Dinnese studied magic fervently, and passed on their teachings to friendly kingdoms like Komodo, and Aurhalz. Together, they began to unlock the secrets of the universe. Just when the world was coming together, a foreign force arrived in Terrunum, threatening to tear it apart.

They were called The Foreigners. To this day, it is unclear why the ancients referred to them as such. Some say they were invaders from another continent. Others claim they were demons from a realm of pure chaos, malevolence, and hatred. Then there are some that insist they were powerful beings that descended from the sky. No one is sure who The Foreigners were, but it's very clear that they were dangerous beings from somewhere other than Terrunum. They brought death and disease to Terrunum upon arrival. They threatened to end all life on the continent. But they wouldn't succeed.

    The Fire Emblem
The Dinnese applied all that they had learned about magic and created the most powerful weapon known to man: the Fire Emblem. Using all that they had learned about magic and the universe, they condensed raw power and energy into six spheres known as the Fire Spheres. Each sphere is capable of granting immense strength of body or mind to whoever should hold them. However, to engage in prolonged contact with the Spheres with one's bare skin will lead to certain death of the body, mind, and soul.

At first, the Dinnese created 12 weapons meant only to house a single Sphere. But the power of any one sphere proved too weak to conquer The Foreigners. So they were mounted into the Crest of Power, a shield capable of containing each Sphere and uniting them into the ultimate power. To this day, it is unclear how the Fire Emblem was made, and no one's been capable of replicating its power since. The secrets of the ancients remain lost to time. Only two facts about the Fire Emblem are known from what remains of ancient records: it will grow exponentially in power as time passes, and it is only to be used in dire circumstances.

    The First Cleansing
The ancient people used the Fire Emblem to destroy The Foreigners in an event known as The First Cleansing. However, the Fire Emblem had unforeseen effects on the environments of Terrunum. Strange magical anomalies began to develop all over the continent. The active volcanoes the Yubans lived in fear of went dormant. The skies over Glypheim were covered in eternally thundering black clouds, and constant storms flooded the region. New forms of wildlife and strange creatures came into existence. A mysterious disease known as Vampirism began to spread throughout the land. The once numerous Manakete race nearly became extinct. Countless effects began to manifest in Terrunum, changing the land forever into what it is today.

Determined to survive, the Terrunans adapted to their strange new environments. Each of the six kingdoms worked together to ensure that life would go on in Terrunum. Thus, the Grand Empire of Terrunum was formed. The continent united under one banner and created the seventh kingdom, Patrium, by donating a portion of each kingdom's land to the shared nation. The kingdom of Dinne then gifted each one of the kingdoms with a Fire Sphere. The Crest of Power was stored in Patrium. And for 10,000 years, the Empire would grow into a self sufficient continent. Though much of their knowledge is lost to their ancestors, the ancients are revered for bringing peace and cooperation to Terrunum among the six kingdoms.

    The Monolith
Three years ago, thousands of years of peace were interrupted by the emergence of a strange, unknown object known simply as The Monolith. The Monolith is an enormous black tower that now reaches so far into the heavens you can't even see the top of it. It sprung forth from the ground and into the skies in the center of Patrium. It brought with it an army of demons previously thought to merely be the stuff of legends. The demons ravaged Patrium, brutally killing its citizens in horrific and unspeakable ways. The very few that managed to escape recount a hellish nightmare of a massacre. The Monolith's minions didn't chase them for very far. Instead, they stay near The Monolith, guarding it as it grows. Once every month The Monolith emanates a dark wave of energy and shakes the earth. After each wave, The Monolith grows taller, more demons arrive, and they spread further outward from Patrium. In time, they will arrive at the borders of the other six kingdoms. Something must be done.

    The Divide
The leaders of the six kingdoms met in Aurhalz to discuss the matter immediately after the incident. The public is rightfully panicked, as magical researchers and ancient researchers have no idea what The Monolith is. The ancients never spoke of such a thing and such an object is not known to exist in the myths and legends concerning demons. Many have taken to calling the demons it summons The New Foreigners. In the midst of astronomically high tension, the leaders of the Empire were met with a decision that will change the world for better or for worse: is it time to unite the Fire Spheres once more to destroy The Monolith?

A heated debate began and continued over the course of a year. The Imperial Leaders were incapable of agreeing on a decision. The trouble of having six leaders is that there is a chance for a tie. And while ties were usually a matter of little concern, the very fate of the world rests on the shoulders of a tiebreaker. Except none of them are willing to budge on their stances.

The leaders of Aurhalz, Malth, and Komodo believe that the Fire Emblem should be used right away to destroy The Monolith. Every day that passes by, the New Foreigners grow in power. They wish to pool together each kingdom's forces and launch an attack on Patrium to recover the Crest of Power and destroy The Monolith. But the leaders of Dinne, Glypheim, and Yuba believe that the Fire Emblem should not be used hastily. Instead, they believe it is apparent that The Monolith couldn't have just come out of no where. Something fishy as fuck had to be going down in Patrium to invoke its appearance, and there could be a less dangerous and more efficient way to destroy The Monolith. The answers to the many questions surrounding The Monolith lie in Patrium, and they want to pool together each kingdom's forces to launch an invasion.

Over the course of a year, each school of thought developed into a movement. Those that want to use the Fire Emblem have taken to calling themselves the Alliance of Fire. And those that wish to restrain themselves from using it until the situation has been assessed have taken to calling themselves the Legion of Stone. What began as political parties quickly became passionate factions present in all six kingdoms. Violence started to break out in the streets, and in the conference room the Imperial Leaders began to go at each others throats.

Eventually, the Imperial Leaders of the Alliance of Fire gave their Legion of Stone counterparts an ultimatum. Hand over the Spheres, or have them taken from them by force. The Legion responded in kind. Come get them. And so war erupted in each of the six kingdoms. Political movements became armed militias. Each kingdom's military seemingly split in half. Soldiers who opposed their own leaders' decision formed rebellions in their homeland. Seemingly anyone who can so much as lift a weapon is willing to fight for the fate of Terrunum. All the while The Monolith looms overhead.
