PERSONALITY

Colvin comes across as a lighthearted, positive, well-mannered young man who makes numerous jokes that rely on his verbal agility, taste for absurdity, and often cynical outlook on life. He has a natural enthusiasm and attraction towards music and, despite his sometimes crippling anxiety, thrives on playing music for an audience. Somehow, Cole manages to be both witty and "not particularly intelligent". Although forgetful and a bit spacy, he’s far from dumb. Cole’s acumen happens to be more focused on what his Step-Father would call "trivialities" than on taking charge of his own life and solving problems by himself. Cole can be easy to fluster and tends to ignore situations that make him uncomfortable--prefering instead to retreat into the safety and security of his room. During the times when things don't exactly go as planned, and the time for humor has long passed, Colvin becomes easily frustrated and a somewhat depressed, sarcastic figure, ready to verbally strike out at even his closest friends.

Colvin is wary around the Gods. He can be assuaged into collaborating, but the suspicious glares will never stop. Even so, he’s not antagonistic about the divine or their curses. It’s closer to amused cynicism.

HISTORY
On June 8th 1999, eight-teen year old Holly Lyre gave birth to a baby boy while tripping on acid in a kiddy-pool. Having refused to go to the hospital, his mother was hell bent on having a home birth and his father wasn't about to disagree with her. He was also tripping on acid, holding a cigarette in one hand and a Sunny-D in the other, and with the incapability to deal with poor life decisions—helped his girlfriend name their child: Colvin Helios Lyre.
Thus planting the seeds for a lifetime of resentment towards his parents.

But as much as Colvin hated the name they gave him, he still loved them.
Growing up in the middle-of-nowhere Arizona, his parents never really had money. Enough to pay the bills and put food on the table, but they rarely had any extra for toys or school supplies. Yet they were happy for a while, at least from what Colvin remembers. His father vanished soon after his fifth birthday. His mother never really got over it. She found it difficult to cope with a child who could get himself lost just as easily, and as often, as he lost all his other prized possessions. Cole was thirteen when his mother married a truck driver from California—Jackson Howly—and just like that his entire life was uprooted. They packed their bags and moved to California.

Cole absolutely despised living in L.A. He sulked in his misery and found expression in the form of music. He learned to play piano and from there took an interest in singing and poetry. Then halfway into his sophomore year of high school, Holly Lyre vanished into thin air. It wasn’t long after that Colvin’s curse was identified by the Database—supposedly reported by a concerned mortal citizen. He was taken to Facility 11, in Mexico, rather abruptly and forcefully, one crisp September morning. The horrible details of that day have been lost in the haze of Cole’s shitty memory, but the next seven years that he spent under Database supervision were some of the best of his life.

Cole followed his passions, smoked copious amounts of weed, and fell in love for the first time.

Then, true to the nature of his life and his curse, he lost it all again.
The Database transferred Colvin to facility 8 after an incident involving a missing resident at facility 11. They dragged him kicking and screaming, all the way from Mexico to Nevada, and he ended up making such a fuss that the security detail had no choice but to have him forcefully incapacitated until they arrived.


CURSE
There hasn't been a single day in his life where Colvin hasn’t lost something. It’s usually small things--a favorite pen, one sock, a lighter, etc. Occasionally it affects his memory as well, though that is more often a conscious decision on Cole’s part. While the intricacies of his curse, and his fate, remains unclear for the moment, the disappearance of both of Colvin’s parents and a previous girlfriend has provided sufficient enough evidence for the Database to carefully monitor his relationships.

PERSONALITY
Lucia is a kind, benevolent soul. She loves to learn, eyes wide and always eagerly invested in what someone's saying. She lives by a motto that 'you learn something new everyday', whether that be something as little as someone's favourite colour, or something as big as a curse placed on you because of your inconsiderate family. She regards everyone with respect, even people who are rude and have wronged her. Peace-making is Lucy's priority, floundering beneath nerves in the face of opposition. Though she's far from a coward, and surprisingly resilient for someone faced with an unbeatable curse, living life as unbothered and smooth as possible is her hope.

She is drawn toward creative, big souls; people who show more than they tell capture her attention. It's a behaviour she tries to emulate. Attempting to be comedic, everyone's friend, and generally an extremely pleasant person to be around. But at the same time, she is quite sensitive. No longer prone to tears at the face of confrontation, she does withdraw immediately if someone raises their voice at her. With nothing but good intentions, being misinterpreted is one of her worst fears.

Surprisingly fluid for someone who outwardly seems like a rule-follower, Lucia will do whatever is needed, come the circumstances. She doesn't stand idly by to mean, hateful behaviour or words. Sometimes speaking out of turn, if it means getting the brunt of someone's aggression thrown on her, she will take the blow. She loves to live in the moment, and isn't known to think too far ahead on things. Capturing the stimuli in front of her takes priority, and she's definitely someone who would take a moment to sniff the roses; if the mood was appropriate. Lucy thinks and feels deeply, unafraid to empathize even with the most villainous of people. Perhaps it's a bit naive of her, but perhaps it is an attempt to make the best out of a shitty situation.

As one would assume, she's fairly anxious. Borderline neurotic, she does prefer to meditate and think on decisions before making them; preferably with a cigarette in her hand.

HISTORY
To say that Lucia was born into a great family would be both an understatement and an overstatement. On the one hand, yes, she was born to parents who had no financial worry to have a kid, nor any less room with their new addition. On the other hand, she was born into a family of ungrateful, materialistic snobs. Hailing from all realms of high society, the Nemos name is carried infamously on most people's tongues. A family strife with drama and too much money for any mortal to handle responsibly, the Nemos were surprisingly fertile. Family of family, extended and names changed five times by marriage. Yet, despite the large family with an even larger family tree, they were reclusive and rude people. If there was even mention of any kind of family, one would spit on the ground and curse that person's name. It was rare for anyone to get along, or to respect each other.

Above that, the Nemos did not respect those above them. That meant the people above, above them. They gloated, flouted their wealth and authority, and were otherwise quite corrupt.

Maria and Lucio Nemos were no exception. While they only birthed one daughter, which was a rarity for the family, they thrust her immediately into the spotlight. Flashing lights, opportunities abound, they showed off their daughter like she was a prize pet. Little did they know that their lineage was already tainted, and that this was the beginning of the end for them.

Lucia did not care much for the life that her parents attempted to carve out for her. She was an introverted, quiet child who only occasionally had a tantrum. Evading their presence was one of her favourite games, often by hiding in closets-- though the fun was short-lived when they would move on for hours, not finding her until she wandered out from her hiding space. She didn't hate her parents for it, as much as their ignorance stung, but she tried to excel where she could to impress them. Sports, musical instruments, singing lessons. Whatever it took to gather their attention, Lucia would do it.

But by the time she was attending school, she began to notice that the rate of forgetting among her peers and teachers was a little too often to count as chance. She'd get marked absent for attendance often, and it was only if they looked a second time, or if she said something loudly, that they would remember she was there. Privately she kept few close friends, girls that seemed interested in Lucia at first, but then seemed to move on. Her ties were few and far between, though she did manage to secure a few very close friends in the transition to high school.

There was when it was truly brutal for Lucia. With the tolerances she afforded her teenage years, nothing felt so terrible as being stood up countless times on dates. They pleaded ignorance, and she figured that was a serious of bad chances. One of the worst times for her was finally managing to have a boyfriend, and caring so immensely for him, only to find that his memory of her eroded after six months together. They had gotten quite intimate then, two deeply emotional souls, but Lucia had it all ripped away when she went on a family trip for a funeral, and came back to her boyfriend with another girl. He didn't quite knew who she was, and that stung the worst.

She felt truly cursed, a young girl faced with the growing reality that all of her choices were for naught, and that her presence was as useless as a leaf in the wind. It crippled Lucia, and rather than live to see the rest of the people she loved forget about her, she packed a bag in the night and ran away from home at eighteen. Of course nobody raised the alarm. Of course there was no missing person's report out for her. Though it seemed acquaintances had asked about her, much to the confusion of close friends and family, the worry seemed to dissipate as time went on.

Lucia managed to get a job, securing some money (though she had had plenty of allowance stowed away by the amount of times her parents had forgotten if they'd given her it), and floated between couches. She developed little ways of keeping herself, as a concept, relevant to roommates or employers/co-workers. It was simple: don't get to know people. Suffering through being overlooked was a much better fate than being outright forgotten, so Lucy kept her distance from people. She grew incredibly lonely, a girl that thrived on the emotional intimacy of getting to know people and learning about them. One-night stands were truly that, if she so chose, and it helped to fill some kind of void within her.

Suffering from this for long enough, upon the knowledge that a Database Facility was just a state over, she gladly drove over-- if it meant getting some answers on this hellish existence she was forced to live in.
CURSE
Lucy's curse set in the moment she was born, though it started off as a slow spread rather than an outright affliction. It started with absent minded forgetfulness on the part of her parents, sometimes glancing over her or forgetting her at school. For the first ten or so years of her life, this was the norm. Eventually it started to grow tenfold, once people began to grow aware that they were consciously forgetting Lucia. Almost like an afterthought, sometimes hours after. "Oh! You were there, weren't you?" However, once it began to grow, then outright ignoring came into play. Not on purpose, of course, but beginning to lose any retrograde memories of her. Her mother forgot when she first walked, talked, and sometimes said 'no' when someone asked if she had any kids. Her father fell under this amnesia as well, and soon it spread to people outside of the immediate family.

(Basically, the more intimate a connection, the stronger the forgetfulness. Level of companionship with a person does affect the rate of forgetting, but not the AMOUNT of forgetting. i.e., after almost twenty years, her parents that she loved dearly have all but forgotten about her, though they basically have unless prompted to recall. whereas, a stranger on the street might glance over her appearance, but if they looked again they'd definitely see her)

Though it can differ from person to person, the stronger the connection to Lucia the more likely to forget her. There can be ways of trying to combat this, perhaps by physical notes or photographs, but even then, the amnesia can become inattentional blindness after some time. The most basic rule for 'am I going to forget about Lucia/what she's said' is the most simplistic: out of sight, out of mind. At least, until someone notices, that is.

One central element that remains, however, is the emotional association. Emotions are harder to forget about, as it seems, and although someone may completely be unaware who she is, they may feel they know (but this will differ on the same level as the forgetfulness scale above). Perfume and other scents have some basis on triggering recall, though it's not always consistent.

The worst phase that has slowly begun to set in as she's gotten older is the corporeal flickering. Not that she goes invisible, but that sometimes her form will disappear from sight. Perhaps it is a physical, actual thing happening-- or perhaps it is all concentrated in the mind of the person seeing her. There is some element of universality to it, as Lucia can note when her form begins to slip. So far, she hasn't outright disappeared or lost any body parts. Though, occasionally, she will become a tad bit transparent. As of now, there is no control to this. There is no future thought of control to this. Nobody quite knows what may happen if she disappears completely.

PERSONALITY
Why think about it when you can act about it fist? Cyrus does first and asks questions nearly never. There isn't a lot that gets through to him when he gets an idea in his head, he's stubborn to anything that isn't fun. Entertainment is just about the only way to sway him- scolding or punishment seem to only make him more intent. Although he isn't necessarily the brightest, he's got a sense of physical awareness that allows him to not only remain alive, at least on property, but craft some fairly simple things. Soft to anyone that will even smile at him Cyrus likes to think of himself as someone who makes friends easily, although some people may find him abrasive and obnoxious, because he is and his inability to filter what comes out of his mouth can be fairly upsetting to some. At his core he is a kind, playful individual who may need to consider just taking it easy instead of "going hard and raw dogging life 24/7".
Although he seems to lack the willpower to be careful, he will not leave the property because he does enjoy being alive. Time in the facility has also left him with an occasional case of what he calls "travel-bug-blues".

HISTORY
An accident prone child, Cyrus was a handful for a single father who worked long hours. He was the type of child that constantly got in trouble for talking during class, getting up and moving at the wrong times, and for being a little too wild during break periods. Of course, a resulting diagnosis of ADHD was just expected by his dad, David, who kept trucking along. His father had one peculiar notable achievement that improved the speed of the meat industry but only damaged what little humanitarian efforts were made prior. As he got older they received warnings and messages from some more in-touch people that were non-specific in nature but warned that travel for Cyrus could prove dangerous. So, his dad kept them in Nevada, and they rarely left his hometown of Lovelock, which seemed to plague Cyrus immensely for sometime- he took to recording a few Travel Channel shows to watch repeatedly in the middle of the night.

Between broken bones, sprains, torn muscles, and several concussions Cyrus ran track- and played basketball- and soccer- and had a short run in theater. High school just moved fast for him, it was regimented, there were a lot of people to chat with and there was a lot to do. Reaching adulthood, however, did not go fantastically for him. Reckless, susceptible to suggestion, and friendly to a fault he would vanish for weeks at a time much to the chagrin of his father who was about as interested in keeping his child alive as one could hope a parent would be.

These periods in which he would be gone were generally a haze for him, and he was lucky to get out without acquiring any major addictions- only some mild memory loss. The final straw was a comatose state after his first, and only time leaving the state. A beach trip to California left him comatose for about a month, a period in which his father took it upon himself to gain Conservatorship over his hyperactive and reckless adult son.
Leash tightened, and in dire need of time to heal, Cyrus stayed down for a while- and just when the nightmare of activity seemed like it was on the verge of beginning again David received some news about a new Database Facility opening just barely across the state.
Without hesitation he accepted an offer to have Cyrus checked out by their team of professionals and it was only a few days later he was entered into the database and asked to stay on property as a special case of self-endangerment.

As one of the beta testers he was subject to the very bizarre side of testing at the Database- and with a new understanding of his mortality begrudgingly stuck around. Although the year there without many people to talk to was grueling he only became better at entertaining himself and finding ways to break little rules without getting caught.

CURSE
Tremendous lack of caution and a draw to accidents and bad luck add up to being a high death risk. Although careful with other people Cyrus is relentlessly reckless with himself- and according to the database testing very much destined to die upon his exit of the facilities. Likely because of the aforementioned recklessness. Prone to bursting into movement, and drawn to dangerous activities as a perpetual thrill seeker, he does not do himself much good and is deemed safer kept on premises. Cyrus believes that this curse was set into motion by his entering the facility to begin with. A curse of ill will cast on his father’s line carries on with him.

PERSONALITY
Due to her lack of voice, Olivia finds that facial expressions or hand gestures work just as well as the written word and because of this, she comes across as much more animated than she would normally seem. Introverted by nature, Olivia's ideal day would be to find a nice spot and curl up with a good book and not have to care about other peoples problems. However, her mothering nature rears it's head at the worst of times. It's not that she particular hates people, she just finds social interaction to be exhausting and social gatherings a nightmare.

As stated, Olivia has a natural instinct to help those in need even if she would rather be doing something else. She's been told she can come across as stifling at the worst of times, especially since she can be quite stubborn when the mood strikes her. Due to the environment in which she grew up, Olivia finds it hard to "let her hair down" so to speak. Because she was one of the oldest in the orphanage and therefore the one practically raising all the little ones, Olivia really doesn't know how to relax and let lose.

She can come across as blunt or straight-forward to some, but it is due in part to the monotone way in which she is forced to communicate; a tone of voice could do wonders in telegraphing the true meaning of what someone is saying, but without a tone of voice, Olivia tries to balance this out with facial expressions, but miscommunication can still happen despite her best effort. And just because she is mute does not mean she isn't afraid to tell someone how she feels. If she thinks someone is being moronic, she's going to tell them. She isn't one to put up with any type of bullshit and she can be rather feisty if her buttons get pushed far enough.
HISTORY
Left on the doorsteps of an orphanage when she was just a baby, Olivia never knew who her parents were, and no one ever tried to contact her when she was growing up, so she always assumed they didn't want her and never would. She was surrounded by lots of children in the orphanage and it was here that her motherly instincts were born. The owners of the orphanage fed and clothed them, but they never went out of their way to show affection to any of the children, and treated them more like burdens. Olivia and some of the older children did their best to circumvent this, and as such, Olivia had to grow up pretty fast and shoulder more responsibilities than a child should.

As she grew older, she realized that music was her escape from all the bad things in the world. She could always been found humming one song or another, and many of the children found comfort in her voice, often requesting her to sing them a song at bed-time or when they had a rough day. Olivia had dreams of maybe one day leaving the orphanage and pursuing a career in music, where maybe she could change the world with her voice. She held down multiple part-time jobs so she could save up money to go to college. She worked hard in school, hoping that maybe if her grades were good enough, she could obtain a scholarship to a music school.

During her childhood, odd things would happen around Olivia. Something might break or someone might stub their toe against a piece of furniture that they knew they hadn't been anywhere near. But it was always little things and it was brushed off as a coincidence. Then when she got a little bit older, the frequency of the accidents increased in intensity. There was one time her friend nearly slipped off the side-walk into the road or the time they were nearly hit by someone on a bike. She began to wonder if the things that were happening were truly coincidence or if something was at play. Despite these short-comings, she was still intent on following her dreams.

But then the accident changed everything.

She didn't mean to yell at Anna, but she had been tired from a long day of school and work and the little girl wouldn't stop crying and whining for a cookie. Eventually all of her emotions bubbled over and she had yelled at the little girl to leave her alone. As if her voice was a physical manifestation of her anger, she could only watch in helpless horror as little Anna was pushed away from her, right down the staircase. She didn't survive. Her death was labeled as an accident but Olivia knew the truth, was starting to realize that all the accidents that had been happening since she was a child were her fault. That night, she packed her bags and left the orphanage. Using all the money she had saved up for college, she headed for Arizona, hoping that she could find the answers to her condition there.

CURSE
Olivia's curse can be broken down into two factors that make-up the level of intensity of the affects of the curse: a target and the volume at which she speaks. If there is not a target or if she is speaking to multiple people at once, something in her vicinity is liable to break or get thrown. If she were to speak softly and calmly to someone, they might stub their toe or bang their elbow off a counter, but the more emotion she feels the higher risk to those around her. If she were to scream or yell, glass and anything else breakable in the area would shatter. As well, anyone standing near is liable to suffer injury. Because of this, she has taken a vow of silence and has turned to alternative forms of communication, mainly a dry-erase board or a journal; though if neither are available she will use a text-to-talk feature on her phone.

PERSONALITY
Crouching tiger hidden dork. Clutch projects an aura of being Very Cool--the sunglasses? the leather jacket? the ripped jeans?--but underneath, she's a massive dork with poor people skills. Spending most of your time with your car will do that. When she keeps her mouth shut, she can usually keep the aura of cool, but once you start talking to her it becomes quickly apparent that this is just a big idiot who likes geeking out about fast cars and loud music.

Clutch is an easily bored adrenaline junkie, and trying to keep her sitting still for long periods is like leaving a husky unsupervised in your house: you're going to come home to a lot of ruined furniture. Her favorite pastimes revolve around her car, a 2012 Mitsubishi Evo X that has been lovingly modded to hell and back, and involve further taking it apart and putting new and interesting aftermarket parts into it, driving it too fast and racing cops, and putting it back together after one of the afore mentioned aftermarket parts break.

However, Clutch is a daughter of Ares. She's not quite as prone to anger as might be expected, but her primary problem solving strategies involve hitting things, stabbing them, or setting them on fire. She considers fighting a hobby.

HISTORY
Clutch spent most of her childhood in the cab of her mother's eightteen-wheeler, crossing from one end of the country to the other as her mother hauled tomato paste and olive oil around the country. Her childhood memories are a series of snapshots of open roads and greasy dinners and bleach-heavy truck stop bathrooms. She met her father for the first time when she was six at a truck stop. At the time, she thought he was just another trucker like her mother, albeit a friendly one who was willing to play with her hot wheels cars with her. She saw him sporadically at truck stops throughout her childhood, most notably when she was nine and he gifted her with a little pocket knife. When her mother noticed it and asked where she had gotten it, she reacted very poorly to Clutch's story, and told her not to talk to strangers. This was, Clutch thought, patently ridiculous--he was a friend, not a stranger--and so it was ignored.

When she was thirteen, her mother started a serious long-distance relationship, and two years later quit trucking to settle down and marry her investment banker boyfriend and move them into his Omaha house. After a childhood roving, staying put and going through high school was torturous, and Clutch failed to adapt. She got into fights with her mother, new step father and step siblings, and anyone at school who looked at her funny. She started skipping school and got involved with a local gang, where she learned a number of skills that her mother disapproved of, like boosting cars and street racing.

Ares properly introduced himself after she'd had a terrible night involving a failed carjacking, a street fight, and a stint in jail that her mother bailed her out of, and then a terrible fight with her mother. Ares showed up and sat down across the booth of a Denny's at three am, just like he had when she was six at the truck stop, and offered her an out and a job and the keys of a brand new Mitsubishi.

Clutch took the keys.

Since then, she's still been a problem for everyone else, wandering around the country partially on her own whim, partially on Ares' direction. She didn't enter the facility willingly--with the trail of bodies and burnt buildings she tends to leave in her wake, they're very interested in keeping her contained. She and Ares, of course, have a mutual interest in getting her out.

CURSE
The gig is simple: sometimes Aries comes around and needs a favor. And you do the favor, because the alternative is having your father, the actual god of war, whine about it for years after. Forgive and forget? No. We resent and remember. Sometimes you have to burn down a government building. Sometimes you have to kick a 12 year old's ass at Overwatch because your father has no sense of scale. Either way, things are never boring.

PERSONALITY
Icarus is a very quiet person who often keeps his thoughts to himself. He’s afraid to speak up or offer his input on anything, mostly in fear of mis-interpreting his words due to his curse. He’s much of a lone wolf, speaking with others only when he deems it necessary.

HISTORY
Icarus has had his curse since birth, and has suffered through every agonising moment. As a child, it was just assumed that Icarus was in a lying phase, but as time progressed, it became obvious that was no longer the case. It became unhealthy, and at first it was believed that Icarus was a pathological liar, obsessed with manipulating and distorting other’s views. Some friends viewed it as funny, calling him names, but soon, they saw it as weird. Icarus was left alone, left behind by what people he held close.

He often found himself in casinos, using his ability as a sort of ‘poker face’. Though, when it came to the surface that Icarus had, in fact, been cursed, many people became upset with him. He laid low, fending for his life under an assumed identity, which wasn’t hard to come up with, considering what curse had befallen him. Though, upon seeing the facility as some sort of ‘escape’ or ‘safe haven’, he willingly admitted himself. Though, he found it to be quite the hassle trying to confirm his identity.

CURSE
Icarus’ curse is very straightforward. In some cases he intends to tell the truth, anything he says will come out as a lie. Even in the scenario he is able to get truth out, anyone he tells will come over with the feeling that what he has said is a lie. He often gets himself into trouble with this. Even if someone witnesses the truth firsthand, and can vouch for Icarus, they, too, will be forced to lie about the specific scenario.

PERSONALITY
Haru tried being taciturn. She tried being a rebel, she tried being cool. Then she aged out of teenagerhood, and after years of therapy, found herself in a position in life where she was much more comfortable in her own head. She was calmer, more open, and able to take her time to process her emotions and think about what she would say before saying it. Haru is good-natured and slow to anger, open and friendly on the surface; underneath, she still guards herself, making deep connection a long and sedate process.

The remnants of her rebellious days still cling to her, small surprising facts and tidbits of information that don’t match how she currently portrays herself. She tries her best to be proud of every little aspect that makes her who she is--but no one’s perfect. Haru can be sensitive about others’ opinions of her, though she would never let it show. She brushes most things off like they don’t bother her--”water off the back” as she says--but still helplessly seeks out approval from those around her. Once it got out that she was one of the Fallen, and she was put under house arrest, Haru withdrew into herself. Now that she’s being transported to Database Facility 8 to be among other Fallen like her, Haru looks with hope to possible new friendships and to make connections with her peers again.

HISTORY
Haru didn’t grow up in a typical American household, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Her mother was a famous actress who broke into Hollywood from Japanese cinema. She starred in a movie with Haru’s Japanese-American father, which was how her parents met. Haru’s mother was a stunning figure on screen and in person, well-loved by the public, and an incredible influencer. Even in Hollywood she stood out; this did not do when living so close to divine deities such as the Greek gods. Aphrodite, jealous of any and all mortal beauty, sent her son to curse Haru’s mother. The curse, however, passed over her mother and instead latched onto Haru who, at the time, was still a fetus in her mother’s womb. Thus, Haru was born Fallen.

Haru’s family lived the classic movie star life in a sprawling mansion in Beverly Hills, and Haru grew up with every material desire she could possibly have being satiated. She wanted for little, and money did buy her much happiness--just not much attention. Once she hit teenagerhood, she did what any lonely child would to have her parents look at her, see her, around their busy schedules: she acted out. She cut her hair, she pierced her ears over and over, and almost got a tattoo (her mother found out the day she was scheduled for it. It was not a good day for Haru--in fact, she tries not to remember it, or her mother’s ire. ) Despite her best efforts--bad grades, causing trouble at school, even a run-in with the police a few times--her rebellious “phase” was incredibly unsuccessful. After her sixth school transfer, she caught a break and befriended a recluse like her: Seth, a boy wise beyond his years. Seth introduced her to therapy, and the rest is history. She calmed, became more comfortable with herself, and was satisfied with her one and only friend. Life was chaotic, being the daughter of two celebrities, but as soon as she had people to talk to, the waves of trouble that pursued her as a secret Fallen felt much less like they were drowning her. If only her story could stay so peaceful.

The day that Haru’s high school friend had his curse revealed was, incidentally, the same day that Haru’s curse was revealed to the public as well. Seth, a demigod son of Heracles with a danger category that was presumed medium, threw a javelin in track and field that speared the gym teacher through the chest. It all happened in the span of a second. At the same time, Haru sat in her third period chemistry class when suddenly the room went dark. Pitch dark. So dark one could barely see an inch in front of them. The class turned to chaos, twenty-five frightened students diving under their desks and crying out. Once the screams had died down, a disembodied voice that sounded human and not at the same time spoke into the sudden silence and blackness, claiming Haru as theirs. A promise and a threat. After that day, Seth was transferred to a Database Facility in Florida, and Haru was kept caged at home, hidden from the world. Or rather, the world was hidden from her.

CURSE
Haru’s curse is, as of right now, a danger to no one but herself. She is pursued by an entity of unknown origin, unknown appearance, and unknown motivations but one: to claim her as its own. The day it will eventually chase her down and find her is drawing close, but she has no idea exactly when that could be. Haru doesn’t want to live her life in fear, so she has accepted her fate. Still, she tries not to think about the monster that will come for her one day. What its intentions are is a mystery, but the entity doesn’t seem interested in anyone or anything but her; those around her seem to be safe. She is being transferred to Database Facility 8 for safekeeping, study, and interrogation.

PERSONALITY
Coming off as quiet and serious, Fairy was not the most popular kid at school. Paired with an ice cold demeanor and the picture of a stick-in-the-mud is perfect. It doesn't matter that she is quite soft underneath all the ice, nor that she just wants to help, dammit. She doesn't love, nor trust easily, but once someone reaches her heart and listenes to her, she loves like a wildfire. All-consuming, burning down everything in her path.

HISTORY
Born to a single mother with five children, Fairy never was the focus point. Yet, she didn't mind. Her family was good...and loving. Days were spent playing and cooking and cleaning and they were fun. But then, the tides changed and a storm came their way. Fairys mother was sick, a deathbringing illness, that soon brought her down to her knees. So, the oldest children setpped up, but the situation was still rough. Fairy was desperate and got tangled into a web of crime and deception, but bringing home money was more important. Around this time, her curse set in. It mingled with the effects of the lies she told her siblings about where the money came from and soon nobody believed her anymore. Not even when she told her family the truth...they now thought the worst of her, her teachers and friends were no better. Rumors began spreading and she was being ignored or outright hated.
So she turned to her only love...books.
Be it Romance, Fantasy or Crime, Fairy read everything she could get her hands on. Her favorite book is 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen and she always carries a copy of it with her.
Another passion of hers would be writing books herself. She could write everything down, every insecurity, every fear and the characters would come out stronger for it. But not Fairy, for Fairy was no character in a book. She knew, there would be no happy end for her. And it came true. Stuck in the facility for crimes she didn't commit, Fairy is a shadow of her former self.

CURSE
Fairy's curse is inspired by Cassandra. Although she has no visions, Fairy will tell someone the truth and they will not believe it. It began when she was around 15 and came in small bits, till nobody believed her anymore. But she found a loophole. Speaking the truth to someone doesn't work, writing it down does. By the time she realized that her reputation was already in shambles.

PERSONALITY
Aloof, quiet, and cautious around strangers- he's a tough egg to crack. Norman isn't keen on opening his mouth too often, it never seems to go fantastically. Frequently frustrated by his own mouth, conversing with him unaware of his particular circumstances can be a nightmare for all parties. He does care deeply about those he's close to- and goes out of his way to do little things for people that are silent but to him important- cleaning, cooking, leaving little drawings around- anything to brighten someone's day. At times really unpredictable.

HISTORY
Norman thought he had an average childhood for an upper middle class kid, he thought things were just as they should be and that life, for him would be pretty simple. However, with a political family he eventually found his father entrenched in scandals, caught in countless lies and eventually stopped catching him at all when his father ran off with his mistress and second (or first?) secret family- they're somewhere in Europe, last he heard. Living with his newly single mother meant he had to find a way to make money- fast- they were quickly running out of what little Julius Nomikos had left in their accounts, so at 15 he lied about his age, falsified some documents and set to work as a messenger in the big city, running errands, notes, coffee- anything someone needed taken from one office to another. It wasn't long before he found himself in an elite little group of messengers. Like most messengers they swore some oath to Hermes that none of them took too terribly seriously, it wasn't like the guy was going to come by and say hello daily, and Norman was no different in breaking those little rules.
One of the fastest, most frequent visitors to the offices of more minor gods and politicians he was eventually asked for favors- things that he was told to absolutely never ever ever do- like relaying messages to someone they were not supposed to go to.
It worked for some time, the extra money he brought in gave him a foot up, he moved out of his house and continued to run the same grift for a couple years, until he was caught. Of course, completely unwilling to admit that he was caught, he tried to weasel his way out and escape the hole he'd dug himself. It didn't work out, he was fired and sent home with some words he'd never forget.

"Go ahead, Norman, lie one more time- see what happens."

And he did, that very same day- it was a petty lie, one he forgot, but it ripped through him and seemed to bring his life to a halt. Suddenly he couldn't stop lying- sometimes he just would stop making any sense at all. A problem for someone who desperately aspired to be a writer. Communication for him became a nightmare- Norman went downhill quickly, unable to work in the field he understood he ended up back in his mom's house. She couldn't understand why he was lying constantly, but it was enough that she knew it wasn't by choice. Eventually she learned how to decode him by listening, but it didn't make his social interactions any easier. His constantly spewing misinformation lead to some trouble, and people were not fond of him almost more so after learning that it was from a curse.

The opportunity to move to the facility was welcome, even it if was new and a major adjustment he at the very least looked forward to the mutual understanding of how fucked they all are.

CURSE
Liar liar pants on fire- well, Norman only speaks in lies. He can only communicate things in their opposites and sometimes if he's really trying to say something and there is no objective fact to it to be twisted it comes out as complete nonsense. Written word is no better, and sign language has gone just as poorly for him.

PERSONALITY

Ignacio always feels out of place in a public setting or around a group of people. He doesn't like to join in on public celebrations or get togethers because he's not used to being around crowds, so he feels uncomfortable when he has to be in one. To keep from fiddling with his fingers Ignacio made the habit to put his hands in his pockets. Because of this nature he comes across as a pushover, or even someone who is easy to mess with, but Ignacio is anything but. He knows when to say no as there's more times he's said no than yes, and he's not afraid to speak up when needed. This straightforward nature has gotten him into more trouble than he wanted to be in, but he's more than willing to fight for himself.

Ignacio has had to fight at times to stay alive, but he doesn't like to use his fists to get his points across. Though he is a straight to the point type of person there is a side to him that refrains from fighting unless necessary. He's still learning to understand his emotions, so there are times where he easily gets triggered, but he tries to remain calm. "Count to 10" is one of his favorite mottos when emotionally unstable, and he will always step away first to not do something he regrets. No one, especially him, is perfect and he does let his emotions get the better of him at times.

Due to his curse he does not let anyone touch him, and will do anything to keep them away. He does not want to harm anyone, and does not want to get close to anyone in fear of hurting them. He doesn't know how to show affection, and doesn't know how to react when receiving it. Ignacio also doesn't like loud noises, or anyone sneaking up on him. He would be lying if he said he doesn't like a good conversation though, or even a good joke.

HISTORY

One cannot control what their ancestors do, but one is affected by them. If Ignacio could stop his ancestors from doing what they did, then he could have lived a much different life. Sadly, there is no way to go back in time, and here he stands as the consequences of their actions. Ignacio's mother had thought their family curse was but a myth, a story told by her family. A story of causes and effects that children learn early on to keep from causing problems, but the story came to be true when Ignacio was born. The curse did not immediately take effect, so as a child Ignacio lived a luxurious life. He was living like any well off child would with the nicest clothes, the best gadgets, and the top education. He learned that the wealth his family owned was passed down through the generations, but little did small Ignacio know that material wealth was not the only thing that was passed down through the family.

When he turned 6 the curse took full affect, and the family wasted no time in confining him. He was pulled from school, taken out of any sport he was put into, and forced away from his parents who never looked at him the same. In the care of the heads of the family he was forced to stay in one room, to learn from an in-home tutor who stayed as close to the door as possible, and to rarely have any visitors. The fate of his life was set and stone. Until, the facility contacted his family.

With careful persuasion they were able to convince the family to take Ignacio into their care with the promise of ending the curse. There he has been since, and eventually was transferred to facility 8 to be with others who have been either blessed, or cursed by the gods.

CURSE

To understand the curse that Ignacio has is to go back in time to when his ancestors lived. They were rich even in the times of old, but they set their eyes on an item of Zeus. This item ended up being beneficial to many people, and their family name spread throughout the lands. However, Zeus wasted no time in punishing the thief's just like he had punished Prometheus. You cannot steal from the Olympian King and expect to walk away unscathed. Unlike his punishment before, Zeus had a much better idea in the twisted noggin of his. He cursed the family line for all eternity, starting with the grandchildren of the thiefs. The curse would skip a child, and be bound to a child of the next generation. The Martinus family name would forever be tainted, and throughout the centuries their family were known as monsters, demons, satan's angels, the cursed, witches, you name it. Anything the people could come up with.

In the last few centuries the Martinus family approached their generational curse in a different way to hopefully be seen in a much better light. Any child who was cursed was to be confined, kept a secret, chained if necessary (though that ended with laws protecting children), and once they came of age they were to live their lives in solitude in a carefully built estate made specifically for the cursed.

Unfortunately, this happened to Ignacio. At age 6 he burst into flames while having dinner with his family, and in turn burned down parts of their family home. They discovered that right after this incident he constantly radiated heat, and anyone who attempted to touch him was burned. When he was upset, or spooked his hair turned into flames, and when he is extremely emotionally angry or sad he would combust into flames.

He has only ever burst into flames a handful of times which is why he counts to 10 to keep his emotions in check, and wears leather and denim as they are durable to the heat he radiates. Ignacio does not want anyone to touch him even when he has clothes on in fear of burning them through his clothes.

HISTORY
Alma grew up on a coastal town, her mother was the mayor and her father was a fisherman. Alma went on to work as an intelligence analyst, living a dream many wish to achieve. Alma had a good job, lived with a woman she loved, and a puppy to greet her every day. After her curse was placed, she either lost what she had or willyingly walked away from it.

Dislikes- Swimming, the entire romance genre, any substance that causes hallucinations, disobedience.

CURSE

Alma wasn't born with her curse, it was bestowed onto her three years ago. She had gone out boating with her friends, getting pleasantly drunk after a hard week. The waves were surprisingly rough and one strong one had Alma plummeting into the ocean. Al had to fight tooth and nail to not only swim back to the surface, but also to pull herself onto the boat. As she lay on the deck, spitting out seawater, one of her friends made a comment that would lead to Al's downfall. "thank the god's you're ok." Alma could only say what came to mind, "fuck the gods, that was all me. They don't do shit." Unknown to her at the time, one god in particular took offence to her decree and cursed her with misfortune.

Her curse started out harmless enough; broken plates that always cut her girlfriends hand, the car not immediately stopping even when the emergency brake was pulled. But then it got more intense; her puppy breaking a brand new leash and collar in order to chase a car, her entire floor being let go after one man messed up. Oddly enough it got worse when she went to sleep, affecting strangers that were unlucky enough to be in a one block radius of her. Even safe drivers would find their car swerving when they reached a particular street, none died but most left in an ambulance. It all added up and after ten months with her curse, she willingly broke ties with her family and Penny. Al roamed the states, earning money by swindling truckers out of their own with a games. Poker and pool are what kept Al afloat. Over the years Al learned to stay asleep through the sounds of accidents and gunshots.

Daniel is cautious and closed off. He has a strong sense of right and wrong- And knows that he’s violated it. Generally speaking, Hera does not entertain the pleas of men, or that of boys who will grow into men. Nor does she offer aid to those descended from the philandering of her husband.

But still, the boy prayed to her. He prayed to others, of course, but most frequently to her. For Hera was meant to be the protector of married women, and the boy knew she would have no love for a son of Zeus.

The boy’s father was such a one- A son of Zeus, and a great one at that, many hundreds of years old. A handsome demigod of tremendous strength, near immortality, and cruelty beyond measure.

The boy tried many times to intercede. But his father was a demigod and his mother just a mortal woman, and so the boy was no match for the son of Zeus. His father laughed at fists, did not notice poisons, and scowled at bullets. The boy was forced to accept that only divine intervention might free his mother from her husband, and so he prayed.

His prayers went unanswered, until it was too late.

It is the great irony of life, that the gods might offer vengeance, but rarely protection.

When at last Hera appeared in the boy’s dreams, he wanted to rage at her- Where had she been, when his mother had wept? Why had she come now, when his mother was dead?

But the boy was young- Not stupid. It does not do to offend the gods.

The son of Zeus should die, the boy explained. But it could not be accomplished through mortal means.

It so happened that this particular son of Zeus- for there are many, of course- was known to Hera. When he had been born, centuries ago, her husband had forbidden her from harming him. This had angered her. As he had grown, he had never offered at her altar or dedicated his victories in her name or made any attempt to win her favor, as other sons of Zeus had done. This had also angered her.

So Hera bade her daughter Hebe, cupbearer to the gods, to visit the boy as he slept and brush his hands with ambrosia. Over time, his hands became strong, strong enough to match a demigod of considerable power.

So the boy put those hands around the neck of the son of Zeus, until there was no breath - divine or otherwise- left in his body.

This might have been the end of it. The now-orphan boy might have gone unnoticed. The gods have many offspring, and cannot always be bothered to keep track of them the way mortals keep up with their own families.

But Hera was pleased at herself for circumventing her husband’s orders, and did not keep silent about her recent success. Zeus raged, and the erinyes brought the boy before the gods for their judgement.

To kill one’s father is an heinous act. To let the murder of one’s mother go unanswered is equally so.

Hera had sworn she would not harm this son of Zeus- And so she hadn’t, she argued.

The son of Zeus had violated xenia when he had taken the boy’s mother from her father’s home those many years ago, it was observed. Was it not Zeus’ responsibility to see he answered to that crime- And having failed to do so, could Zeus object to the consequences?

This son of Zeus was no ordinary demigod, but divine in both his lineages- A son of Zeus, but also descended from the lineage of a nymph. Should there not be an answer to his death?

Over this point, the gods argued especially. Were they expected to track all their children then, and their children’s children and so on? Such a task was not reasonable, and more importantly, held minimal appeal to them.

And if they were to consider the murder of this son of Zeus a higher crime because of his divine nature, where would it end? If they had a responsibility to the son of Zeus for being of the family, did they not also have a responsibility to the boy for the same?

Round and round it went, until wise Athena proposed a solution.

Hera had bade one of her children to aid the boy in his goals. Zeus would do the same.

Zeus took the body of the boy’s father, and cut off the hands. He gave them to Hephaestus, and the great smith took them to his forge.

The gods held the boy down, and cut off his own hands, the very ones that had killed his father. They ignored his screams, as Hephaestus welded the new pair to the stumps of his bloody wrists.

The boy had wanted to be able to kill a being of greater divinity than himself? He would have that ability, Zeus promised.

The boy’s father’s hands were stronger than his own, and could accomplish many great things, and would be the boy’s own now.

They would be his- But they would not obey him in all things.

Every year, the boy must take a life. The life of someone who, like his father, had never hurt him. If he failed to do this willingly, his hands would accomplish it regardless.

And then his new hands would turn towards his own neck, and strangle him until there was no breath -divine or otherwise- left in his body.

Daniel’s early life was spent on his father’s estate- Or compound. He’s not sure the exact word for it, only that he was only allowed to leave when securely at his father’s side. There were maids and tutors and chefs and nearly everything a young boy might want.

He was twelve, when he killed his father.

It is dangerous to involve yourself in the affairs of gods. Daniel may have done so, but the state government chose otherwise. He inherited his father’s material assets, and was adopted by one of his old tutors to keep him out of the foster system. After about a year and a half, Daniel moved away from his childhood home and attempted to live a ‘normal’ life, with mixed results.

He’s been doing a bit better these days- A mix of being out of high school and finally trying therapy and medication. But his depression worsens every year at a specific time, and no matter how he tries to justify the choice of his annual victim, it eats at him inside.

Daniel must kill someone once a year. His victim could be nearly anyone, so long as the individual has not harmed him directly. Failing to do so will not spare a life- Instead, his hands will simply choose the victim for him. And then kill him as well.

Daniel has the potential to be a great hero. If his father’s stories were to be believed, he had killed monsters and other demigods and even a god once. His father’s hands are his now, and it stands to reason Daniel could do these things too.

But Daniel isn’t really interested in such pursuits- Though others might have other ideas regarding his future.


EXTRA

Daniel wears gloves almost constantly.

He is lactose intolerant. Which is all sorts of stupid- His father was a demigod, he can deflect bullets with his wrists, he could kill a hydra….. And he can’t enjoy ice cream.
