Lore
In the lands of Paladina, a dreaded curse has been lifted. A hundred-year plague of vampirism and Dark Lords has finally ended, thanks to a small but heroic group of adventurers who defeated the last great evil, Lord Dracula. This final victory was the results of decades of battle, hardship, and purifying light pushing back the darkness. During the cursed times, the king of Paladina, Emperor Talsim Rodrick was slain by assassins inside his own castle. His family was forced into exile, and for years the castle was empty. A temporary government led by the church of Mitra was put in place during the crisis. At the same time, a neighboring sect of mages called The Circle helped maintain control over the provinces, providing services and inventions to improve life for citizens, using transmutation and conjuring magic to erase famine and poverty caused by the blight. The Dominion of Mitra worked to cure disease and erase vampire spawn. Their Inquisitors sought out vampire lords and their soldiers to help rid the world of their presence. These combined efforts held the country together through the hard times, all while the King's family were protecting each other.

Since the blight has ended, Prince Edwin Rodrick has returned with his army, the One Hundred and Sixth, to reclaim the throne. What he didn't expect was stringent refusal from the Dominion and Circle to surrender their power back to the rightful monarchy. The Dominion believes that Mitra has abandoned the throne, and used her love to spare the countrymen. The Circle says that the world is moving away from monarchies, and a handful of the land's most intelligent people should hold the decision-making power. While friends during the blight, the Dominion and Circle of Magi are creating friction between them as well. The Dominion wants power consolidated in the faith's leader, Deacon Marcus Glasswell. The Circle views this as an attempt to establish a new religious monarchy, and the Dominion distrusts the wizards and their power, knowing that magic brought the Blight upon the earth in the first place.

Emerald City

ville_by_w_e_z-d8g632c.jpg

The sunny port into Paladina is welcoming to traders and merchants from all walks of life. The breathtaking lighthouse on the edge of the coast shines with a brilliant green beacon during the day and hot white at night to help guide ships safely into port. The port is often bustling with sailors, transients, and some of the ilk from the city who like to beg or sell seashell necklaces and other trinkets.

In the city proper, you may find many busy shop keepers, booming taverns full of drunken sailors, and many an odd and curious sight. Tall whitewashed houses with narrow streets, and almost all flow into the center town plaza. The plaza is home to the city guard and local governmental buildings. There is also a stage in the town square where concerned citizens go to voice concerns, issue statements, or to publicly shame.

The city is protected by an encompassing wall with archer towers and a moat that flows in water from the bay. Military generals say that Emerald City is a formidable stronghold, with many cannons ready to defend its walls.

Emerald City is led by Count Myar Herst, a wealthy nobleman and nephew of the former king. Though the crown has fallen, Myar retains control of the city through his stalwart leadership and tactical thinking . The building of the city’s massive fortifications allowed them to prevail through the blight. Some would say he’s grown soft in later years, being far removed from the troubles of the people or the suffering the blight brought to many. Still, Emerald prospers.

Important Locations:
City Hall
Boartusk Tavern
Adel’s Potions
Bagful o’ Goods
Church of Mitra
Blacksmith
Stable

Dominion: The Healing City

This city has been under the watch of paladins and knights for over a century. The bronzed towers stand as a testament of man’s struggle against the forces of evil. The towers gleam with the sun’s rays and casts light into the mountains.
Deacon Glasswell sits with his high priests in the former castle of Rodrick, called Capitol Building by the clergy. They rule as a theocracy, determined to sway public opinion away from their occupation of a vampire-free society.
The surrounding township is set up like a series of three rings interlocking with walls, separating the city into a labyrinth that an invading force can get lost through.
Three churches are used as places of healing for the sick and injured. North, south, and garden. The Garden Church is located in the castle fields.
