Fantasy Fantasy Mercenaries: The Light Lotus Company

Literary Revenant

One Thousand Club
Captain's Log, Janet, Captain of the Light Lotus Company. Norg, if you're reading this looking for recounts of my love affairs, I'll kick your ass and cut your pay!

Today is the third Volgrodanen of Veiss. As the days grow colder, business is sparse. I haven't been able to scrounge any work from the Balthoran Nobles, not even The Board, no one has. It's been a shitty time for any form of business, the money from our last escort job has run out. We will need more to survive the rest of the winter. What's worse is that we lost almost all our crew to the Templars of Balthora. They joined me to become mercenaries, proud mercenaries! They took my oath and spat on it; joining those pathetic excuse for life Templars. From 25 we are down to 4, and that's including me. I hate to say it but not even Thon could reverse this fucking mess. We got a simple delivery job coming up this week, at last a job! Hopefully this will restore the morale of the boys. End Entry.

Today is the third Aniirdanen of Veiss. Me and a few of the boys got into an argument today regarding their pay for the past few weeks. The delivery job went off well and we got payed, our first paycheck in a while. Sadly, the delivery cost us a quite a large amount of Gold Zalecs which ended up being most of our pay. Their 'less than meager' cut left a few of them a little extra sour. Norg was especially adamant about getting extra pay, and I ended up having to give him one of my old unmentionables just to get him to stop talking. It's getting harder and harder to keep the boys in order, and the last girl left me to join the Templars of Balthora. I have recently gotten in contact with a handsome but silent agent who hasn't shared his name. He gave me a lead for another delivery job, this time with a more lucrative load.

Captain's Log, Janet, Captain of the Me, Myself, and I company.

Today is the fourth Heldanen of Veiss. I might as well throw in the towel, I lost Norg and the last two members of my company during that last mission. That lucrative load? Ardanor! Fucking ARDANOR!!! Norg was killed after 'sampling' the product and getting caught by the Warden. What were we delivering? 50 Barrels of high grade Ardanor, solidified explosive magic shit which according to Norg made for a great narcotic. We got the 49 and a Half barrels to our contact, some pompous noble in the Nethers of Balthora, but he reported us to the Warden to 'illegally shipping contraband'! The nerve of him, hiring us only to later make us his scapegoat to tie loose ends... I should've known better than to trust the Nobles. As for Norg well... he died trying to fight off the Warden and 5 of his men. He fought well but was slain by beheading. Back in my earlier days I would've worshiped such strength, but now I feel I cannot even respect anyone with the strength to lift a pen. I was able to charm the Warden into releasing me and my men, worst two minutes of my life by the way, yet they still chose to leave me saying that I was some washed up nobody clinging to the past.

Like I care... I was not paid for the job so either I get an easy solo job soon or I gotta make money some other way. I'd really rather not sell my dignity as a mistress of the night again but if I have to... Well we'll see when it gets to that point. I should pay a visit to the Rose Gardens, I hear they have some Lotuses growing in the pond, I'd love to see them. Give me some hope for the future in this degrading cesspool of a world. End entry.

Captain's Log, Janet, Captain of the Lonely Lotus Company.
Today is the first Ysildanen of Thira, and possibly my last entry in this journal. It has been a long few weeks since my last job and now I am out of coin. I can honestly say that I miss Norg's company, hell even Lloyd would make for fun conversation. These lonely days are starting to bother me, I never thought I would feel this way but I've been wrong before. The only hope I have left is to send my company to the new world of Vian... Elana only knows how expensive that will be. I've heard rumors of the King wanting skilled help In the new world, something about fending off the other nations attacking Balthoran settlements. The only problem is that our party is small, like just me small. We will need a helluva lot more members to get preferential treatment in the mission deployment.

Really what I truly need is a sponsor. The Templars have already gotten their sponsor, the same noble who hired me for the delivery job. That asshole doesn't know quality work from hiring monkeys to dance at the carnival. However my luck getting a sponsor as a freelancer is noneexistent. I'd have better luck weaving magic than finding a sponsor. If only I could get more people to just join my company then maybe I'd have a chance to restore my name and that of the Light Lotus Company. End entry.

Captain's Log, Janet, Captain of the Light Lotus Company

Today is... oh who cares!!!! We just got the best new member ever! Ramirov! That contact who I mentioned in previous entries, turns out he had followed that traitor Warden and managed to create an explosive mess of that Ardanor. I love him already! And I didn't even have to sleep with him! Well.... hes not really a member, I just found him bloodied, half dead in the forest buuuuut I managed to convinced him to join my company in exchange for a favor. He's from Vian, the new world! If only he was Balthoran maybe I'd let him be my boyfriend... Back to the point! Ramirov is from Fra... Fraiz... some place called Frostburne in Vian. He can speak with the Customs Officer and get us a ship to Vian for free, as he is a Native to Vian. That means I can transport an entire company to Vian for free! A no hassle sponsor! We should have members and a contract in no time! The Light Lotus Company will be number one again! I just gotta make the forms and we should be all set to go!

Alrighty, this here is my interest check for a story in need of revival and finishing. I call it The Light Lotus Company. A mercenary group led by the one and only Janet Ravenna, with her sorta trusty sidekick Ramirov. After a long losing spree, Janet has finally gotten the means to transport her company to the new world of Vian. However before she can do so, she needs your help, fresh faces to add to her merry band of two. This story is gonna involve the Light Lotus Company moving to the new world of Vian; a dangerous but wondrous world of magic, dragons, and adventure.

I plan on having a list of missions premade with this group taking them on to encounter lots of crazy endeavors up to the point where the mercenaries get caught in the biggest event in Balthoran's history. I do have an idea of whats gonna happen but I also plan on including little "Day off" events where you the players can Sandbox a little bit so that you can feel free to expand little things about your characters. I have a bunch of lore prepared for reading and enjoying and am preparing a CS for the main thread. If you like the little Captain's log and feel like you're ready to immerse yourself into this story be sure to bump the forum. :D

Tentatively interested. Got a few questions, listed below.
  • Is this a world of humans or different races?
  • How does magic work in this setting?
  • Do they have a currency system?
  • If different races, how do they get along?
  • Is there like a class system (poor, middle, upper, possibly slaves/servants/prisoners) and does that affect how certain people/races are viewed?
  • What is the government like and how does it play into this world/rp?

Time to answer your questions since I'm on rn.

Humans and different humanoid races. (Orungalo- fancy name for orc. Voralian- Fancy word for Moon Elf. Alveric- Fancy word for Sun Elf. Brek'Shal- Fancy word for 'Dwarf') There are a great many sentient races, but the most prominent are the ones listed.

There are two forms of magic. Arcana and Psykan. Arcana is a more common (but still very rare) form of magic where an Adept weaves Arcane into physical manifestations like fire, illusions, or to change the shape of an object. Psykan is an even more rare form of Magic where a person can bypass the need for Arcane and can manipulate objects instead. (Think of that like a psychic, being able to use their mind telekinetic things. Not like a mindreader though.)

There is a currency system. It's still in refinement, but it does exist. My plan was that people would receive their cut and could then use that as a form of development.

Humans come from Balthora, all the others are in Vian. Due to Balthora being a near dystopian mess of power and technology, they invaded Vian to find clean land at first, but due to a very healthy resistance from the natives they were stopped. Instead, they were allowed to settle a small base of operations while the majority of human population remained on Balthora. Tensions are high with the humans, but there is an uneasy peace.

As you can imagine, yes there is a class system in all the races. For example, in Balthora there is a huge gap between the rich, and the destitute. Janet is an example of this, while she was born of noble blood, she was raised by a poor mother and in turn had a rough upbringing. Luckily she escaped the horrors of poor life by becoming a mercenary. I have more lore prepared if you wanna take a peek.

The main government we will be concerned with is the Balthoran Government. In the story, the Balthoran Monarch personally hires a multitude of private companies to try and establish a bigger presence in Vian. (Backstory behind this, Balthora has had one hell of a civil war. That combined with the war on Vian, it's military is badly depleted. Hence the need for the mercs.) We will be conflicting with the countries of Vian in many scenarios.

Since characters would be going to Vian, am I correct in assuming the characters will be humans and end up meeting these different races when they end up in that land? Do you have any character requirements? For me I prefer fleshing out personality and backstory in RP but can throw up something for backstory if brief and expand in RP if that is preferred. Personality I have a hard time sticking to for some reason. But it is a great idea and I'd be willing to give it a shot.

So, your character can be an elf who came to Balthora on a religious Mission or an orc that was enslaved and taken to Balthora. OR just like you said, you could be a human about to encounter these races for the first time. Character Requirements? Well, no gods of course, but overall your character needs something useful to merc companies. You don't NEED to give me a novel of content for your character. I give a novel of content because I want you to understand who they are and why they do what they do. Feel free to expand backstory in RP, you again don't need a monster character sheet. Personality needs some form of consistency, but it can definitely change as things go along.

If you like, it'll take me a bit to get the CS up. If you'll still be awake you can get started.

Fantasy - Light Lotus Mercenary Application Thats for you. And for anyone else who may be looking.

Quados Quados You said you were interested. MJ ._. MJ ._. If you are still in too.

I noticed you mentioned Brek'shal/dwarves earlier, but I can't see a section for them in the lore? I am looking on my phone, so it's entirely possible I'm completely missing it due to messed up formatting, just let me know!

Well, I really don't know at all, cause my first impulse to go with magic has since dwindled due to the fact that I'd have to choose between battle magic, non battle magic and illusion XD

They are not intended to be playable characters. Humans havent really interacted with them. Plus these dwarves arent small, they literally Dwarf other people. There should be lore for them though, I'll have to double check that.

Those are the 3 schools of magic and more should be explained in the lore. You can be a fire slinger, ice thrower, lighting ... zapper. Or you can opt for the Psykan route and be more of a telekinetic person, but that lore is underdeveloped.
What kind of magic were you thinking?

Aha, gotcha! Thanks for clearing that up. I'm going to work my way through the rest of the lore and try to draft up a character asap!

I checked and that aforementioned lore for the dwarves was for a much older project of mine. Same universe just different time frame. I'll see about adding their lore in when I have time.

I'd probably go for the last even thought it's underdeveloped. But that's a bit of an issue as I don't know what I'm allowed.

My thought for Psykan was going to be an artificial alternative to traditional Arcana Adepts. Through the use of modified Ardanor being injected into people with incredibly resilient bodies/ mental fortitude, people are allowed to harness Arcana to manipulate physical objects.
Where an Adept weaves Arcana into different physical manifestations (Like fire for combat, neo materials with creation, and light bending for illusion.), a Psykan uses their mental fortitude to force Arcana into manipulating physical objects. (Lifting objects, pushing them with extreme force, ripping an arm off, even altering ones mental state. Telekinetic abilities and some psychic abilities. Since very few Psykans exist, and havent existed for very long, the extent of their ability is unknown.
