Fantasy Fantastical Fantasy Questing- A fight against the Lord of Evil!!

Aru grinned to himself as they finally arrived at the cave, really relieved that they'd finally arrived. Aru took a deep breath, seemingly asking to himself "p-promise not to kill them?" after a short period of awkward silence as it were on the outside, Aru sighed and closed his eyes. "r-r-really swear?" Aru asked again, before another awkward silent moment passed on the outside. On the inside, Aru was waging quite the war with himself, should he let 'Daemon'/'Damon' in control now? It'd fix the headache problem, and he could easily take it back soon enough.

Meanwhile 'Daemon'/'Damon' themselves were just trying to convince Aru that it was fine, that they wouldn't do anything to their new party members, that they were just as interested in this as he was. Those types of things. During these awkward silences, 'Daemon'/'Damon' had managed to succeed in his plan. After another moment, 'Aru' finally reopened his eyes, which, as of now had turned a blood red. "We're fine now. Let's go then?" 'Aru' said, grinning widely.

'Aru' then proceeded to trip on their own feet.

Hides-His-Eyes watched the two humans, their behaviour couldn't be any more different, and Blaire speaking to him like he struggles to speak felt somewhat insulting.

But he shook off the unpleasentness, no time for that right now, he must be ready for the fighting.

He was about to begin casting when Aru fell flat.
"Human not need herb, human need less drink." He laughed, his high pitched voice sounding more like a wild cackling then a good nautured chuckle.

"Human must watch feet, have careful! Bat poo hides falls, some falls not short."

As he said that, he watched Blaire bumbling off into the cave, her wand eminating a faint light.

"No! Bad human! Not light! Let eyes adjust! Bats swarm light! Use for traps not see!"

Hides-His-Eyes wasn't aware that human eyes weren't as adaptable to the dark as his was, but the panic in his voice was universal.
He ran over to help Aru up, and shook the rat off his arm, sending it deep into the cave.

'Aru' let out a soft hissing noise as they were helped up, loathing the fact that the actual Aru was snickering in the back of their head. ('who's the moron now?' the human was on the metaphorical floor rolling around in laughter at the incompetence of his partner.) "i really hate you..." 'Aru' seethed to themself as they started catching up with Blaire, taking full account of Hides-His-Whatever's warning, no matter how needlessly cryptic and awful the English. They didn't go as fast as they wanted, mostly because it was weird having 'feet' again, and they really didn't want to trip. Besides, they were sure the real Aru would get pissed if a little girl ended up getting injured on their watch which just made them madder they couldn't go quite as fast as they wanted. Though, none such worry or anger really mattered in the end since they ended up right next to Blaire in a matter of a full minute, thank Not-God ('you're still going with that...?' Aru questioned from the back of his mind) for super-speed.

Hides struggled to chase after the humans, his rats faint magical glow leading the group, hopefully the biters would attack the rat before Blaires wand.

"Slow! Hides not so fast! Has little legs!"

They had gotten deep enough for his voice to echo, and he readied himself, any moment now they would disturb the critters...

"Oh there you two are, jeez. What kept you?" Blaire said as Aru and Hides reached her. Even though she asked this, with the lack of noise in the cave and how loud they were Blaire had a pretty good idea of what happened. When she looked back at Aru something about him struck her as completely different. She couldn't pinpoint it but he just looked a little different. After about three seconds of wondering about what it could've possibly been that changed, Blaire realised that they had finally reached the first area of level ground in the cave.

"Okay, I'm pretty sure our targets are up there sleeping right now." She had to get really close to her party members so that they could hear her voice as she whispered. She was pointing to the ceiling as she said this. "Does anyone have a super powerful area of effect attack that can take out multiple opponents at once?" She said designing her question to be rhetorical- knowing full well that she had exactly that.

"WELL I DO!" Blaire shouted loudly before anyone could even answer. She turned away from them and towards the chamber as she forcefully jutted her wand forward and many sharp shards of ice launched out of it straight at the ceiling of the cave. Her wand shone phenomenally as the ice continued to hit and shatter against the ceiling. Her attack covered the whole area. She made sure that just before she did this she had created a thin layer of ice to protect herself and her party from any stray shard pieces that may have hit them as they shattered. Once Blaire was sure all the bats were as good as dead. She turned around with a huge smirk, expecting praise from her team. Her attack had not only been powerful but the barrier she put up was also rather dazzling in appearance.

Swelling with pride Blaire didn't even notice the lack of bat carcasses in the room until she looked at the ground. There wasn't even a single one, she was visibly shocked and confused until she twitched at the sound of something. A squeak, a bat squeak from the area just below them. Her eyes widened in disbelief, she hadn't killed anything and just awoke a swarm of poisonous bats just below them! She readied her wand once again as she heard a flurry of wings flutter from below.

"Argh! Hides not ready!"

The ice storm Blaire had summoned was impressive, but Hides was quickly coming to realise she was far too impulsive for her own good.

He begun chanting in goblinoid, ripples of magic emminated from his staff, his voice once more sounding like a whole tribe crying out in unison.

The tendrils appeared again, this time gathering in the air as slowly, glowing purple goblins began to appear.
Six goblinoid apperitions appeared, and as soon as they took form ran off into the fray, cackling maniacally.

The rat also charged in with them, pouncing onto a bat as it tried to take flight and mauling its wings.

"Hide behind tribe, tribe protects!"

A shade ran past Blaire and 'Aru' a chill colder then anything they had ever known, went down their spine and they felt immediately why.

Dark magic. Blaire would have instantly realised it was necromancy, and Hides kept his eyes averted from hers.

He begun more chanting, this spell would take longer, and he needed focus.

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya

'Aru' sighed, having been slightly impressed at Blaire's show of magic, was far less impressed by her bragging stand-out nature. Now they understood why no one wanted her, though the real Aru was still remaining optimistic. 'Aru' was about to jump into action, already having drawn both of their swords when Mr. Goblin ('you mean Hides-His-Eyes...?' Aru corrected from the back of his mind) started using black magic, more specifically necromancy. They smirked, Aru had certainly picked an... interesting... group of people to party with.

Finally, 'Aru' had decided to get in on the action, they'd been wanting to kill something for so long. A week, two days, one hour, twenty-nine minutes, and four seconds if they were to be exact. Which, may or may not have been what they were doing. ('...i... don't even know what to do with you...' the real Aru in the back of their mind had clearly not known this information.) 'Aru' shook his head, chuckling as the bats started flying up.

-)) Phosphoryl Cave ((-

The bats swarmed around every one of Hides aparitions, their manic cackling never stopped though, as crude looking ghostly swords slashed through the air, as they struck the bats no blood was shed, in fact the bats seemed to simply die, the life snuffed on contact.
As more and more bats swarmed from below they quickly started turning their attention to the party themselves.

Hides-His-Eyes was almost done with his incantation, the wild magic flowing around him was almost entirely uncontrolled, a tendril of magic energy writhed around him growing thicker and thicker, as the ground beneath him seemed to swell.

In the voice of an entire tribe Hides spoke to his party
"Ice lady! other human- choppas! Choppa human, death not take you..."

He turned his gaze to Aru, and for the first time made direct eye contact. His eyes didn't seem normal at this moment, it would have felt as if many creatures were watching through Hides eyes.

"... KILL!!"

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya

'Aru' didn't need any more convincing once 'kill' was said, even if Mr. Goblin seemed pretty possessed. They grinned widely at that, looking away and charging at the bats. Quickly, extremely quickly, they started cutting the bats with a crazed look in their eye whilst the real Aru averted his gaze, still adverse to killing anything. 'Aru' was really enjoying themselves, one could even hear them giggling if they focused.

Tierax Tierax Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14

Blaire's eyes narrowed with judgement as she saw products of necromancy appear before her, she thought that type of magic was frowned upon and never used by anyone who was aligned with the guild because of the stigma. But then again, he was a goblin- their culture must've been different. However she was most worried about his prowess with it, and how it compared to her with her magic. But her judgement would have to wait. With no resistance against the goblin's command, Blaire thrusted her wand down onto the ground- upon contact small thin trails of ice traveled across the floor in many directions and then shot up as giant spikes of ice. Each one rising into the ceiling and impaling any bats on its path.

Blaire then proceeded to outright encapsulate some of the bats in solid blocks of ice, letting them fall to the ground and shatter upon impact. Their efforts were mowing down the seemingly helpless creatures numbers significantly, though there was a steady stream of bats coming from the room below. As Blaire kept going she could feel her extremities already getting colder, she was going to start freezing up soon. But despite this knowledge Blaire kept using her magic to keep the bats down.

"You two, we were tasked with taking a nest down," She said as the numbers of bats were starting to dwindle "we need to move down to the next large chamber. Hopefully there we see either a large leader bat or a whole load of them all asleep one area. Once we clear that out then we're done." Blaire said as she stoppped fighting for a bit, the numbers were low enough now that Aru and Hides were more than enough to handle it and the bats had stopped their continuous stream- perhaps they were waiting for the party in the next chamber. Blaire pulled out a container of tepid water from a pouch she had at her side. She poured the content out onto her hands to heat them up, she was surprised that it worked so well. The freezing in her hands had seemed to have stopped. Her feet still felt cold but ultimately her hands were more important as of right now and she hadn't brought much water with her
"Let's go when you're ready, and don't take forever to follow me this time." She said replacing the container in a half serious half joking tone.

-)) Phosphoryl Cave ((-

Hides listened to Blaire speak and grunted in acknowledgement, that minir break in concentration caused the spell to waiver a bit, the raw magical energy lashing out and striking some bats, which vapourised or magically morphed into screaming abominations that quickly died.

As he regain control of his magic it coalesced into three distinct spheres of magic.
As he dropped his staff to his side the energy pounced off, a sphere for each party member.
Plunging into the dirt beneath them bones immediately rose to the surface, floating into the air around them and clashing together, gradually sharpening them.

Soon they stablised into a serpentine creature of bone, the hollow bones clacking together as if they were hissing.

"Bone servent, be of shielding, no fear death."

Hides-His-Eyes was visibly exhausted at this point, taking a moment to compose himself as his apperitions defended the group.
He caught his breath and walked to meet Blaire before turning to face 'Aru'.
"Human scary good kill. Clumsy, but scary."
He poked Blaire with his staff and growled at her, and though she was taller then him, he tried to appear as big as possible.
"This human not good killing, strong but not control! No think! Could have kill Hides! Hides not join ancestors yet!"

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya

'Aru' was grinning to themselves, having just brutally slaughtered something really boosted their mood. They nodded in acknowledgement of what Blaire had said. Quietly they put their swords away, ('w-w-wait you're supposed to wash them first!!' the real Aru screeched from the back of their head) as Mr. Goblin had given him the greatest of compliments, and one that would make their eternal partner keel over, lucky he was busy with complaints.

They were sure Mr. Goblin's assessment of Blaire was extremely accurate, they'd seen her in action after all. Even the real Aru couldn't argue about it, not like he was willing to anyways, he was still complaining about the entire 'supposed to wash the swords before you put them back in their sheaths because it could damage the leather and blah blah blah' they'd already tuned him out pretty well. It was a skill they'd learned to do a while ago, though because of it they may not have had enough mental room to remember how to use their legs properly. They'd say it was a fair trade overall.

Anyways, they'd already started following Blaire, occasionally picking at their nails, already itching to kill something again. Grinning rather widely to themselves, they still had enough time for another round against the bats, right? ('o-oh! uh-huh! Just enough i-i think.' the regular human confirmed from the back, having been interrupted during his tirade about the delicacy of their sheaths.) right. Luckily, this one wasn't stupid enough to mumble to themselves like the real one did whenever they addressed the other.

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 Tierax Tierax

Blaire would've immediately snapped back at the goblin for what he said but she bit her tongue. As far as she was concerned Aru (who was being oddly quiet and not weird at all like before) would've sided with him before he sided with her, she couldn't bear to be rejected again. Besides, he said she was strong. That's what she was trying to prove in there. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I just get carried away sometimes, I'll be more careful next time, I promise!" She said trying hard to keep back any malice from her response, though a little sarcasm slipped through. They group continued to walk down the path where the bats had came from, Blaire led them with the same faint glow of her wand lighting the way.

Once the downward sloping path began to level out again Blaire stopped in front of them. She had been thinking about a strategy during their walk just to get on the good side of her teammates.
"Okay, we're probably getting close to the next chamber. Wouldn't be surprised if the nest was down here considering how quickly they all managed to get up to our level. But just in case I'm wrong, do either of you two have a way to see ahead without going ahead? Like the ability to scout out the next chamber." She said with a lowered voice trying to make sure she didn't wake anything nearby up. "That way we can know if they're awake and expecting something or not."

Although Blaire thought this strategy was a waste of time she wanted to pretend like she wasn't completely self absorbed by asking a question about abilities that she couldn't answer with 'yes!'. Though deep inside she kind of wished they rejected her idea and just went into the nearby chamber with all out attacks, that way this quest could end and she'd have a chance to redeem herself by utelising more controlled combat- that on top of she could go back to her home in Stornway to properly thaw out her body.

Hides smirked at the young ladies sarcasm, it had been a while since a human spoke to him like that, actually... only his human master had.

The same one, who had their skull now adorned his shoulder. He stared at it for a while, remembering many of the lessons the man had taught him and his tribe before adventurers killed and scattered them.
A painful memory he was bound to honor.

"Hides has idea, send tribe kin to scout! will start fight yes, but give time to think of fight." His Goblinoid voice echo'd a bit more then he would have liked, but it didn't seem to attract attention... either the bats were laying in ambush or they were unaware...

Hides looked at Aru, something did seem off.. it didn't feel like Aru's usual spiritual energy, but Hides didn't know him long enough to really make that call... instead deciding to keep an eye on him.

"What humans think? Aru, not plan charge into fight no?"

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya

'Aru' grinned exceedingly proud of themselves for being one of those fancy sight demons, having completely ignored Blaire's previous comment instead opting to indulge the real Aru on the entire leather debacle. They shook the grin off their face when Mr. Goblin asked what they thought, ('let's actually plan this through...' regular Aru noted, interrupting himself.) "let's actually plan this out, we can see inside without going in, but we'd need to be in front of the entrance or have it in our line of sight. It's not like we can see through walls." 'Aru' repeated the far more thought-out version of the original Aru's idea. Even if they only had so much time left before the actual Aru got way too paranoid about them to continue this, it'd be smarter to actually see what they were going up against. Even they knew that.

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 Tierax Tierax

"Look, there is a ninety degrees turn just up ahead, that's what the pathway did before we entered the previous chamber. So I'm pretty sure the next chamber is there too. This cave isn't natural after all and besides, if you really listen you can hear them stirring in there. At least I think that's them..." Blaire said putting a hand to her ear to make sure she wasn't just going crazy. She thought she could hear some soft squeaking and that was good enough for her. "Mr. Goblin, please send whatever scout you were talking about to go ahead and scout." Blaire said not wishing to stand and discuss any longer. Blaire edged slightly closer to the turn she had mentioned. She could peek around the edge of the wall to see what was there, but at the same time if she did that and it turned out to be a bat laying in wait then she'd rather not be the one to do that.

"Aru, here. The room is in your line of sight now, just like you wanted." She said sweetly calling Aru over to her position so that he could peek if he really wanted to, but mostly to hide her cowardice. She'd known people with serious poisoning from the bats in these caves- emphasis on known. Blaire could only wait for Hides to send his scout now, or for Aru to peek around the corner and see the enemy or get mauled by a bat.

-)) Phosphoryl Cave ((-

Hides nodded in approval, and with a short sharp whistle, his undead rat came bounding out of the darkness.
It was massing a front leg now, and its tail was completely gone, numerous scratches and bite marks covered its body.

"Human throw rat, rat scouts! Rat die again, but Hides see what rat see!"

The rat bounded over to Aru and squeeked at his leg, seemingly oblivious to its damage.
Hides stared back at the other chamber, there would be corpses in there...

"Remember, use bone serpents as shield, they help, but must give order on own. Keep simple, not smart things." He explained, his voice seemingly absent minded as his attention remained on the darkness behind him.

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya

'Aru' nodded, quickly getting into peeking position. They'd already gotten that Blaire was utterly useless currently, it didn't take a genius to figure out she was really a one-trick pony and that one trick was ice magic. They had drawn their weapons already, prepared for a fight. Quietly, they peeked into the other chamber, preparing mentally for the worst. Aru (the real one) was currently stirring uncomfortably, they knew they didn't have much time left, so please, please let them be the one who finishes this...

Tierax Tierax Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14

"Oh, that's kinda useful." Blaire said before she went over to pick up the rat. She bent over and reached out to it before retracting her hand as she observed it again. It was extremely similar to the rat from before, her eye twitched as the urge to kill it for the sake of it crept back up on Blaire the longer she looked at it. She shook her head after debating about it internally for a bit and ended up just picking the rat up and tossing it past the curve that Aru was positioned at. She hoped it wasn't killed before Hides could actually see anything.
"Can you see anything?" She asked Hides rather impatiently as she readied her wand for attack. She was expecting the bats to charge straight down the path once they had finished off the rat and she figured that because Hides would be busy with the rat it'd be up to her to clear a large swarm of them in a tight space. Then Aru could go blazing in once the initial swarm was defeated.

-)) Phosphryl Cave ((-

Hides-His-Eyes stared at her in disbelief, how rude! Tossing his rat down there like bait!
He was glad Aru had already moved into position because that could have just ruined everything.
-----
A moment passes and the Rat sees all the bats still sleeping on the other side. A few look awake, patrolling around their young at the back...
And in the centere of camp, a wolf sized brood mother. Shaggy hair had short, thick pointed needle-like protrusions.
A large scar covers one eye, she's clearly lived long enough to have fought off the native cave creatures... she won't be so easy to clear out...

"Hides see... ah, queen of infesh... infash..? Queen of nest! Large... has fought lots, has scars... not look fresh. Big nest... big lots young, not so many big biters tho, queen enough gaurd.. only ones looking after young."

Hides stopped focusing on what the rat saw, he started to lift his staff high over their head, stretching as tall as he could and waving the staff to catch Aru's attention.
Motioning to pause, Hides finally turns to face Blaire, and glares in direct eye contact, always angrily moving around to make sure he maintained eye contact. A rather... rediculous sight to Aru he was certain.
"Hides help many adventurers.
Some actually stab at Hides...

HIDES, STILL, not feel that they try as hard as YOU do, To kill Hides!"

"Aru, tribe kin follow you, they do as they told. You tell them what told. Yes? We follow your lead yes?"
He said as loud as he dared, and waited a moment to see if they disturbed the nest.

-nothing inside, looks like the older ones won't attack unless the brood mother does... and she's fast asleep.-

"That's right yes, Human Blaire?! We are going to do this plan and not die on simple quest yes Human Blaire?!?!"

Each time she went to speak up, he only got louder.. and while he tried to listen, mostly he just continued to rage.

"Because Hides will wait for other Humans! Hides not die yet, has more to do with Hides life!"

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya
-the brood mother begun to stir...

Blaire raised an eyebrow at Hides before he began to spoke. His movements were odd and unsettling and she didn't exactly know what to make of the goblin. That was until he began to speak. The condescending tone didn't go down too well with her, once he had finished his piece Blaire couldn't help herself to respond. She'd tried to hold her tongue as he spoke but he was pressuring the passive act she was trying to keep up too much.
"Kill you? Kill you? Trust me, Goblin, you'll know if I'm trying to kill you. Actually no, I take it back- you wouldn't know because the moment you'd be able to process that I'd have already killed you." She insulted rather furiously, matching Hides' volume. "So don't even begin to act like I'll be the reason any one of us die here, I can't help that I'm powerful. So now that you know what I'm capable of I advise you to get out of the damn way instead of complaining." Blaire was going to go on but she just decide to leave it there before she said anything else that may put her in a worse position than she is already in. She couldn't tell

She broke off the leer she was giving him throughout the time she spoke to him and began to think about a way to deal with what was supposedly a bat queen in the nest. She would've probably just stormed in there given the mood she was in but instead tried to abide by Hides' wish and wait for Aru's instruction.

"Alright then Aru, what's the plan." She said rather moodily while looking at him with a focused but rather angry stare.

Tierax Tierax K KodomoYamiya

'Aru' looked inside the other cave, seeing just about exactly what Mr.Goblin ('His name is Hides-His-Eyes!' the real Aru shouted from inside, clearly getting annoyed at how many times he'd have to correct) had seen. Then thought for a moment. Realizing that they'd just been called upon to make the plan. They'd never really been relied for as a leader before. They'd always been a sort of guardian figure for the real Aru, sure, but that was different, they'd always just thought of it as they were just protecting their host, nothing more, nothing less.

This lead the fake to ask the real one for help. ('hmm, w-what if we attack only the smaller ones first?') then wouldn't the queen wake up? ('not necessarily, we could work from the walls inwards then corner her in the middle, but we'd have to be stealthy about it. Do you have enough power to do that?') i think i can get some of them in there, and maybe Blaire too if...

"Hey Blaire" 'Aru' whispered, clearly not caring if she's agitated or not "do you have any spells that you could use in the dark? One's that wouldn't draw much attention to yourself, to clarify." Then they addressed Hides-His-Eyes "can you work from here, where it's safer, or would you be more helpful if you were closer?" They needed the info from both before they could confirm their plan would work.

"I have spells for every situation," she said with a raised eyebrow "I can do small and really plain freezing spells with just my hands so that we don't have to deal with my wand glowing if that's is what you're asking for." Blaire often didn't use attacks without her wand as the reprecutions of ice magic affected her faster this way. But it was also the only way for her to attack without causing the glow with her wand, and since she had to listen to Aru she had no choice. Aru's change in mood was too odd for her, she made a mental note to definitely ask him about what was going on with him once they'd finished the quest here.

"By the way Aru, you might wanna get this plan on board as soon as possible. I doubt they're gonna sleep forever, maybe some are already expecting us." Blaire said rather tensely as she imagined what the mother of the pack looked like, she could hear more vigorous squeaks from the other room. The bats were getting restless.

(((Back in Stornway- The Grand hall)))

"Did you hear about the Lord of Evil's army general who's shown up nearby Stornway?" One of the many adventurers having a drink in the tavern said to the owner as the former received his drink.
"Oh, no I haven't. You sure it's not just rumours?"
"Nope, one hundred percent fact. Apparantly new parties have been going missing on relatively easy quests. The Lord of Evil is getting rid of the newbies before they have a chance to get strong enough to pose a threat. Cowardly really but what do you expect?" The tavern owner nodded before eyeing Blaire's normal space, now empty. He'd saw her rush off with another new party member earlier, he hoped that this random guy telling him this information was completely wrong for their sake.

Hides bit his tounge at Blaires attitude, hard. A small amount of blood filled his mouth and for a moment he nearly let himself fall to his more monsterous instincts...

When Aru spoke up, it helped him focus.
"As long as rat can see, hides can stay here, not have much magic left... but can keep tribe kin helping. Bone serpents too."

Hides glared at Blaire again, he didn't know the righr words in human to express himself.

"Hides keep helping humans, but Blaire...
You are Acktagoot! Not know human words for it, but feel shame."

Hides felt his voice raise a little higher again, and could have sworn he heard a rustling from the brood mothers den...

'Aru' felt his eye twitch at the obvious conflict blooming between Blaire and Mr. Goblin ('i give up...' Aru sighed defeated), as long as it didn't get in the way of the mission, it wasn't their problem. The real one could deal with the issues between party members, this wasn't their forte in anyways. Either way, they got the info necessary, so quickly, they formulated a mini plan in their mind, even going so far as to get confirmation from Aru.

"Here's the plan." 'Aru' whispered rather harshly, the annoyance from the clear conflict between the pair making itself apparent "we work our way along the walls from inside, i can cover up our presence so long as it stays dark. So Blaire, use your hand magic, got it? Nothing to showy too, we're trying to clear out the little ones first before dealing with the Mother, i've got a feeling she's going to be rather difficult. Goblin, you stay here, provide back-up, and keep track of the mommy bat's status, whether she's still asleep, or stirring, or so. If she stirs, send in the rat, that's the signal if something goes wrong." they explained their plan, they weren't really proud of it, but it made enough sense to them.

They could already feel the shift in the air, they'd have to hurry up putting this plan in action or else the entire incognito thing would be completely worthless. Taking in a deep breath, they finished off their plan with the simplest of questions "anyone have a problem with it?"
