The grand hall of Stornway. The monumental ancient building at the centre of the bustling city was one of the grandest attractions for tourists. Despite all the other monuments, unique shops and street performers around Stornway the grand hall was never short of tourists and adventurers alike. This was because the grand hall was the place the FFQ held their party assembly, organisation training facilitities, quest board and FFQ gift shop. The interior of the hall consisted of a large open space with a tavern-like bar at one side and a large reception on the other side. The red and white checkered floor was illuminated by the sun teeming through the open gaps in the whitish-grey brick walls that acted as windows.

Those floors were busy with people, as usual, but while the variety of people was major they all had one thing in common. They were all being watched, analysed and judged by Blaire who was sitting at the edge of the tavern area. "Tourist" she said under her breath as she saw someone with a camera walk by. "Weak, too weak" she said again as another person with a rusty old sword passed her. She was getting impatient until she noticed someone she knew walk in, a holy well revered paladin clad in heavy shining armour. "Hi! Fredrick! Buddy! Over here!" She shouted waving her hand above her head violently quickly with a huge smile on her face. Frederick glanced over at her before walking away acting like she wasn't there. Blaire scowled and sat back down while whispering something vulgar. She had once been in his party, he had kicked her out though. She'd been kicked out of a lot of parties, and every time she was she'd come back here searching for a new one.

She was hoping this party would be the one that accepted her, she had a good feeling too considering her new 'anti-body-freezing' plan would finally be put into action during an adventure with this party. Blaire had been imagining the result of her new plan ever since she was kicked from her most recent party, she'd fantasised about finally get the fame she believed she deserved for her amazing ice magic. But of course she had to wait for that party to arrive first. After what seemed like forever of waiting for an adventurer who didn't look like they just picked up a stick and decided to join the organisation, Blaire was met with a familiar voice.
"Cheer up Blaire, you look horribly upset. You'll find someone." The owner of the tavern said as he put her usual juice order on the table she was sitting at. She gave him a quick nod of thanks before taking a sip of her drink and going back to waiting and watching the entrance to the grand hall like a hawk. That owner knew her well, she'd always come here after being kicked out. They have had many conversations in the past and had grown to be good friends out of it all.

Blaire hoped that she spotted another Mage the most. Though by how the quality of adventurers were looking today she'd have settled for anyone that looked like they knew how to fight with anything. "Please let the next person be good, please let the next person be good..." She whispered to herself continuously and increasingly quietly as her expression changed into one of determination to finally be accepted and kept in a party.

Hides-His-Eyes sat in the dense shrubbery outside of the city, he could see the main gate- bustling with traders and tourists- and the imposing architecture of Stornway Hall.

He had only been inside once, having posed as a sickly child in a robe and managed to make a friend in the FFQ.
Sadly, he still wasn't allowed inside the city limits...

"Why no adventurers? No fun wait long here." Hides spat under his breath.

He dug through his knapsack, pulling out a writ of valour, which acknowledged him of being an ally of the FFQ, sometimes it was enough to convince a band of adventurers to let him join them... mostly, they tried to kill him before they bothered to read it.

"Must make human understand, i am of helping to them!"
Hides put the writ back in the bag and took out some moldy bread and a fresh rat, deciding on some lunch as he waited.
More humans passed into the main gate, didn't seem like many were coming out.

Hides snarled at himself as he wondered if he was waiting in the right spot, the FFQ friend said to wait here for friends to join... right?

Aru looked up at the main gates from outside of them, staring up at the architecture. He'd been there a few times, though all those times were when he was a child. He vaguely remembered his parents having had worked nearby, so they did their shopping out here. Aru had only been let out this far few times, of course, since that was when he was eleven. The memory seemed so vague now, but the structure itself gave him a rather comforting feeling. Aru could practically feel 'Daemon'/'Damon' (the demon who still detested the names) roll their eyes from inside. He mumbled to himself "it's not that bad!" in response 'Daemon'/'Damon' just sneered from within, obviously bored with Aru's childish fondness.

Aru then looked around the area, watching a few other adventurers going in before he dared set foot himself. He felt kind of bad about going in, like he would be bringing in a bad omen or something. Aru guessed he had 'Daemon'/'Damon' to blame for that. Since technically, he shouldn't have been bringing a demon inside the walls of the beautiful structure. Of course, that demon was kind of attached to him at this point so he wasn't sure what the rules were for that.

At this point, he noticed some one ('Something' 'Damon'/'Daemon' corrected) hiding out in the bushes. Though he couldn't see it very well, since dense shrubbery was dense shrubbery, and his better eyesight didn't mean he could see through things. Most of the time it just meant he could make out writing underwater, and things of that nature. He didn't have X-Ray vision, no matter how much he wished. Aru just looked around nervously, trying to see if anyone else noticed it before he himself made a move. He wondered if it was out of impulse, or just 'Daemon'/'Damon' 's influence, as he started walking ('rather counterproductive.' Daemon/Damon mused from the back of his mind) to check it out.

Finishing his snack, Hides peeked over the bushes again, and saw a human walking his way.

He carefully, and slowly crept towards the centre, where the leaf cover was at its most dense.
"Human friend? Human guard?"
Hides begun to panick, picking up his staff and pulling out his writ, he readied himself for trouble. As the human got closer he saw two swords, and felt an overwhelming spiritual energy.
"Must be strong human.. has flat choppers... "

He waited longer, as the human got closer and closer. Before succumbing to his fear, curling into a ball on the ground, covering himself with his staff and holding the writ above his head while babbling to himself in fright.

Aru peered into the shrubbery, examining each inch until he finally spotted some sort of creature in fetal position, covering itself with a staff. He took a moment of thought, waiting for 'Daemon'/'Damon's comment about them, which didn't come. It seemed even the demon was busy thinking about it. Aru then noticed the writ above his head, reading it rather easily from the distance (the one use of that power, he supposed).

Aru then took a deep breath, then called out "y-you're an a-ally then, right?" meaning to address the creature, doing his best to keep a smile on his face. Even though his voice had faltered a few times, he doubted he looked threatening. But still, one could never be safe around possible new companions.

Hides-His-Eyes paused, he wasn't expecting to be spoken to, kicked- maybe, but not spoken to.

Quickly jumping to his feet and rushing out of the bush he bounded over to the human waving the writ to him.

"Yes! Yes! Goblin is of Helping to human! You ef ef cue? Me Hides-His-Eyes!"

Hides kept looking at the feet of the human before him as he addressed them, holding his staff next to him and the writ above his head.

"Hides not allowed in city, hides try, but too pretty to be human child, was seen! You party? Hides help! Hides good guide! Know many paths! Can keep safe!"

Hides babbled quickly, not waiting to see if he was talking too fast. His shrill goblinoid voice did take some getting used too, he knew that... but this was the first time in months a human didn't try to attack on sight and the excitement was too much.

K KodomoYamiya Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14

Aru winced, his poor ears suffering the shrill voice. Aru was honestly really glad 'Daemon'/'Damon' hadn't given him super hearing, he was sure he'd be rolling on the floor plugging his ears if he had. 'Hides-His-Eyes' had asked him about partying, which was technically what Aru was here for. Even so, he wasn't too sure about partying with a goblin from the looks of it, he could feel his demon nod along in the back of his mind as if confirming it. Then again, the goblins excitement was starting to get to Aru a bit, he was a sucker for this kind of thing. Seeing someone ('something!' Daemon/Damon shouted from inside) happy, was enough to get Aru happy, it worked the same for excitement. So, in a rather heat-of-the-moment decision, Aru smiled widely and said "let's party, then!"

"Yes! Yes, yes yes! Good! Hides help human! Hides do goo-"

Hides paused a moment, standing dead still. A thought had crossed his mind and an awkward silence fell between the two.

"Uhh... how Hides help? Who is party? Uhh... what.. k. Kwa... kwaest? Kwest! What kwest!"

Hides struggled with the word, the human language had too many noises, not simple like proud goblin tounge.

Aru's smile turned into an expression of confusion as he tried to figure out what Hides-His-Eyes was trying to say, this was until 'Daemon'/'Damon' had insulted him internally, 'he means quest moron!' Aru mumbled to himself "Well, excuse me for not getting it immediately..." Aru shook his head, trying to shake the current annoyance from 'Daemon'/'Damon's insult. "a-anyways!" he said trying to get his own mind back on track more then anything, "we'll uh... need to get one...! ahaha..." his nervous laughter trailed off. 'You're a moron' the demon commented to themselves, "oh, you shut up!" Aru snapped at himself, turning as if yelling at someone beside him though the space there proved empty. He could practically feel the other's laughter echo inside his skull, it was starting to give him a migraine.

Hides-His-Eyes stared at the mans feet, confused by him talking to the air, before it struck him.

"You not have k.. kwest?"

He felt a little let down, and turned to crawl back in his bushes, finally dropping the writ from above his head and putting it back in his pack.

"Hides waits here yes? Hides not let in city, but Hides not know how get kwest."

Crawling back into the bush he grabbed an old filthy rag and blew his nose, tossing it out near the human.

"Hides waits for human, human get kwest, human comes back to hides, yes?"

K KodomoYamiya Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14

"a-alright!!" Aru replied with faux enthusiasm. He then turned and started walking, rubbing his temples as he started towards the questing board. Praying to all gods, real and fake, that he'd be able to get through the rest of the day without 'Daemon'/'Damon' ('JUST PICK ONE!') making their brain explode. He even forgot about the awful feeling he had when he'd thought about going in. He took in a deep breath trying to calm himself before looking at the quest board, examining it extremely carefully.

As the human left, Hides got an idea, putting down his pack he grabbed his staff.

Chanting in goblinoid the gem at his staffs tip begun to glow a deep unnatural purple, winding tendrils of magical energy begun to eminate and reach towards the ground.
All at once, his tribal markings lit up, his beady eyes begun to glow and his voice became lost as it seem like hundreds of goblin voices were speaking through his mouth.

The chanting continued until the tendrils reached the earth at his feet, burying themselves in and almost seeming to pulse.

A small blue glow illuminated the point of contact, gaining in intensity.

Hides lowered the staff as the spell completed. Niether he nor his staff glowed anymore, and the patch of blue light dimmed. Suddenly the earth begun to raise, as a small rodent- a matted rat with half its tail and face lost to rot- emerged and squeeked curiously at Hides.

"You follow that human, you tell Hides what happen! Go yes, and not seen!"

The rat scampered off after the human, and Hides-His-Eyes sat and mditated, if he focused hard enough, he could see and hear what the rat did. But that was difficult at this stage, he needed more practice...

Blaire couldn't believe her eyes when he walked in, a person who didn't know her with a sword. Two swords nonetheless. Blaire wasted no time rushing towards him and eagerly trying to look over his shoulder at what he was looking at to get his attention. Unfortunately after trying that and being too short to do so Blaire simply settled for tapping his shoulder to get his attention, she didn't have time for subtlety.

"Hi there!" She exclaimed eagerly "I couldn't help but notice you have weapons that don't look like complete trash! People around here should really take a note or two from you am I right?..." She began to trail her sentence off with a faint laugh as it occluded to her just how weird she must've sounded, Blaire stood there for a moment with embarrassment overflowing inside her, but she wouldn't let that stop her. She needed a party and this guys was going to be a part of it no matter what. Blaire took in a deep breath and pulled her hat over her head just a little bit to try and hide her face in an attempt to look mysterious.

"My name is Blaire Perma, I am a powerful Mage well known amongst all the greatest adventurers here for my undeniably powerful ice magic. I was actually just about to take on an extremely dangerous quest all alone but upon seeing you I immediately sensed something," Blaire tossed her hat high into the air when she finished her sentence "Power! Yes, you. I can tell you're incredibly powerful. Powerful enough for even me to be interested in forming a party with you. What say I join you and a few of your other friends on a quest you all want to do? I could help you easily gain any piece of equipment from any monster you'd like!" Just as she said that her hat had floated to just behind her and with a quick wave of her wand she created a thin slope of ice that her hat slided on and landed back on her head. She smirked on the inside when this happened, she'd been practicing that trick along with her speech for a few weeks now.

She eagerly waited for a response, only acknowledging the seemingly undead rat beside him but not verbally questioning it. She had just delivered that speech perfectly for the first time and did not want to mess anything up by insulting what could've been his beloved pet or something.

Aru was snapped out of his deep contemplation between two very good looking quests that seemed easy enough, at least, in the part where he didn't have to interact with any people, by a girl tapping his shoulder. He was somewhat startled, but he just turned to watch as she prattled on about who she was and what she could do. The girl was being rather showy, though she looked far younger then himself he wondered if she'd be helpful or if she was just bragging to get his attention. Though, looking around, there were probably plenty of other people far more powerful then he was, why was she coming to him? clearly with the least optimistic approach, 'Daemon'/'Damon' thought there had to be some sort of reason behind it like she had some sort of toxic personality, Aru was not as pessimistic and as such, not quite as realistic either.

He put on his best smile, and tried to introduce himself, really rather flattered she'd even talked to him "uh... i-i'm Aru! Aru Kisaki, you can go ahead and join us if you want, b-but i have to warn you we're taking a pretty easy quest so if that's not something you're willing to put up with, it's totally fine if you want to back out!" though the quests themselves weren't exactly the easiest quests, they were more middle-road, though both Aru and 'Daemon'/'Damon' were pretty confident they'd be able to take on any one of the moderate quests on their own, Aru wanted to gauge the ability of his partner(s). See how helpful they'd actually be.

They'd both noticed the undead rat tailing them for a while now, Aru may have been anxious, but he wasn't an idiot. Aru really just didn't have any reason to kill it, and though 'Daemon'/'Damon' would have done so happily, Aru was still rather adverse to killing when he didn't have to. He buzzed a little in his thoughts, then asked the girl, realizing something

"uh... how do we take a quest...?"

Tierax Tierax Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14

"Pleasure to meet you Aru." She said with a nod as she listened to the rest of what he had to say.

"You don't know how to take a quest? Oh, well don't worry I'll show you." She was very obviously jubilant in her tone and facial expression to be accepted by him, though she was trying her best to remain calm. "Just take the piece of paper quest you want on the board and go over there to that lady behind the counter," She pointed behind them to a wizened old woman "then just give her the piece of paper, she'll probably say some stuff about the reward or whatever, but that'll be stated on the paper too so you don't really have to listen to her. I don't anyway." She said all with a smile, by now she had picked up on how flattered he was and realised she didn't need to be so surprised she was accepted by him. She was the one bragging after all.

"So go ahead, choose a quest. I'm fine with whatever really, I just really need to freeze something and get paid for it right now," Blaire was very eager to try out her new thawing method "by the way," she began giving into curiosity, "is that rat-monster-thing yours? It's kinda unnerving how it's just sitting there." She said finally speaking about the rat on the ground.

Aru just grinned nervously, picking a random quest between the two he'd been deciding from earlier. He said uncomfortably "n-no it's not mine, i-it's probably my party mates, t-though!" that was his best theory anyways. Being the eternal optimist he was, he was sure it couldn't have been anyone else's. He then started up the trek over to the reception desk, passing it to her nervously. He was starting to feel a light buzz in the back of his head, "just wait a little longer, okay?" he mumbled to himself, he'd gotten into the habit of doing that.

-)) Stornwell - Stornwell Hall ((-

The rat ran excitedly between the two humans feet, squeeking away.

Hides felt some shame that his choice of creature didn't understand hiding in its dead form.

The rat continued to bounce around, tufts of matted fur falling onto the floor, and disgusting puslike ooze weeped making a trail everywhere it went.
Still, it followed the human with the swords, running between his legs and almost tripping him on occasion.

Oddly, it didn't seem anyone else in the hall had noticed it yet.
Hides took some solace in that as he focused on hearing more, having only caught fragments of the conversation.

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya

The receptionist took the quest and inspected it, "clear out the nest of Baneful Bats in Phosphoryl cave. You'd better be careful, they're small but fast. You're reward will be seventy Pokos and a leather robe. Good luck!" She said all rather grimly. Seventy Pokos wasn't a bad reward, enough to buy at least a good dinner for a few people. She handed him back the quest slip and paid no heed to the boy's mumbling.

Blaire was torn between killing the rat or not. She wanted to see how an undead thing would die, undead monsters were often rumoured to be rare but powerful so this may be one of the only opportunities she got to see something of that nature die. But at the same time she didn't want to upset any potential party members by killing their beloved pet or something. Well it was far away now so it'd look pretty bad if she just walked over to it and then killed it for no reason so she sighed with discontent.

Aru wasn't looking too good over there though, she had also noted the increased frequency of stuttering when he last spoke. She couldn't tell if he was just nervous or something was really up with him.

Tierax Tierax K KodomoYamiya

Aru then came back, slip in hand. "l-l-let's go!" he said with a bit of fake excitement. It wasn't his fault he'd had to fake it, he was blaming 'Daemon'/'Damon's impatience for that. His head was killing him, and the prolonged human interaction was making him so nuts. He didn't really care much for the reward, though it was a rather nice reward. He'd probably just split the reward between the other two members, he could survive with his own cooking again tonight.

He then started walking off outside, sure that Blaire would follow him. He was really rather curious to see what they could do, and 'Daemon'/'Damon' was itching for a fight. Quite literally, since it felt like he was scratching the inside of his skull with it. He was kind of used to that much though, he'd still needed to pick up the other member of their little party first. Speaking of which, the rat by his feet was getting kind of annoying, not as much as 'Daemon'/'Damon' was, but still. The goo seemed like it would be really to slip on, and the rat staying close to his feet made it difficult to move with as much speed as he'd like.

Hides released his link with the rat, who in turn broke away from the two humans and scurried to him, jumping up on his arm and squeeking enthusiastically.

Hides crawled out of the bushes, making sure he had everything with him to greet the two humans walking to him.

"You find k-ka... grrrr.... kwest?"

Hides didn't look at either in oarticular, instead focusing on the rat on his arm.

Blaire stood there rather astounded with the goblin in front of her. First Aru was acting all weird and in a hurry then this pseudo monster was seemingly their third party member? Blaire was having second thoughts already but decided to give this goblin a chance. Besides he had a staff, that meant he was a Mage. Once Blaire realised this her attitude flipped, she genuinely smiled and stuck out her hand for a handshake in excitement to meet the other magic user. Though she quickly retreated the handshake not wanting to risk any rat/goblin/general goo getting on her gloves.

"Hello there...sir?" She said rather unsure of how to address him "yeah, Aru here has the quest. Anyway I'm Blaire, nice wand you got there!" She said not even really looking at him but more interested in the wand, specifically the large amethyst jewel seemingly strapped to it. "What type of magic do you specialise in?" She said hoping he said ice so that she could show him up later. Though from what she could gather he couldn't speak very well so perhaps bombarding him with a lot of information and questions wasn't the best thing to do.

After she'd finished speaking to him though she turned to Aru and looked over at the slip of paper he was still holding. "Phosphoryl cave huh, this can't be too hard. Let's get moving as soon as possible, it's quite closely to Stornway actually." She said with a smirk, giving off the same arrogance as she did while giving her speech earlier. Blaire was very ready to get into a fight with a few airborne enemies, though unless there was something big in there it was unlikely she would need to thaw herself out.

Tierax Tierax K KodomoYamiya

Aru took in a deep breath, trying his best to calm his mind which was currently suffering the brunt of a demons impatient wrath. He really wanted to scream, but even he knew that'd be a bit too much. Aru took a moment to ease his head before he pulled out a map 'Daemon'/'Damon' stole from a local while they were in control. Aru still felt guilty about it, but what's done is done. Might as well use whatever resources he's gotten, locating Phosphoryl cave and making a mental marker on the map.

"l-let's go then!" Aru grinned, he was still rather proud of himself for having taught himself how to use a map, he was already starting to walk in the direction they were supposed to be going. Having already forgotten about his fellow party members.

Hides-His-Eyes hastily followed the human called Aru, while babbling something at the new human, Blaire.
Whatever it was though, it was unintelligible.
Catching up to Aru, he felt something... off about him, Hides could feel his ancestors fear but couldn't figure out why.

Blaire catching up shook him from his focus, she seemed upset.

"Humans not go slow, walk into trouble." He warned sternly, his voice lowered to a growl.
"Cave got good food, but food fast, bite lots. Not teeth that scare, bites make sick"

Hides looked at the other two, they seemed to be off in their own worlds, Blaire had lost herself to bragging about her magic, and Aru... seemed to be arguing with himself.

"Aroo? You have sick of mind? We gather herbs, help with think. Not taste good. But help."

Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14 K KodomoYamiya

Aru craned his head to look at the goblin who's rudely interrupted him whilst he was trying to make a point to 'Daemon'/'Damon' ('PICK. ONE!' the demon shouted at him from inside.) He took a few moments to process what Hides-His-Eyes had just said, then shook his head. Nervously he stated, "u-uh, w-well, n-no i-i-it's actually p-pretty normal! i-i usually a-a-argue with h- m-myself..." He really couldn't explain how or why it was normal to him, just something about arguing with his demon made him feel at home. It was like he was part of a conjoined twin, just in one body.

"a-anyways, w-we should be there soon!" Aru stated genuinely happy. Finally, 'Daemon'/'Damon' would stop annoying him! The inside of his mind would soon be spared! Though, it wasn't like it really was only his mind, he just hated thinking of himself as a 'they' or a 'their'. It was enough to send shivers down his spine.

Tierax Tierax Shuttleloop14 Shuttleloop14

Blaire was rather irritated that the goblin didn't answer her question but she was sure she'd see his abilities enough so she saved her judgement till then. "Yeah something is up with him." Blaire said just thinking out loud as she looked at Aru who seemed to be in some kind of pain. The goblin seemed to think he was sick but there's no way that was the case. He seemed completely fine before. Blaire was going to tell this to the goblin but she decided that he'd just babble something unintelligent at her again if she spoke normally. "Aroo no sick in mind, me think...Aru is just a little weird." She said to him, giving up on imitating his speech pattern when she couldn't think of a reasonable explanation for Aru's behaviour.

Blaire couldn't really make up her mind with this goblin, was he an actual member of the FFQ or just one of Aru's friends? She supposed she could've asked to see any proof of his membership but she decided to wait because if he could not prove his membership when splitting the reward Blaire could easily make that argument in order to stop him from getting any Pokos and allowing her to gain maximum profit from this quest.

It wasn't long till the unorthodox group reached Phosphoryl Cave, it's entrance was a large dark hole naturally created in the side of a particularly large hill. From the entrance the path would lead downwards to some of the earlier areas in the cave, this was where most of the bats they needed to clear out were often living. The Baneful bats would often cause trouble for the people of Stornway- poisoning their livestock and then mass feeding on them. It was soon to be the weekly feeding time for these bats so it was no wonder that the quest was there- though despite the trouble they cause the bats themselves were not particularly strong when fighting. Especially against much larger beings.

"Well we're here..." Blaire said peering into the dark entrance, she wasn't fond of bats or any kind of rodent for that matter "follow me guys, and Aru if you need a time out or something then just sit this one out. You don't seem all that well." She said half making and observation and half trying to find a way to eliminate him for eligibility for the reward too. With that Blaire began to walk down into the depths of the cave, she charged up an ice spell on her wand as she walked so the wand would faintly glow and illuminate the path ahead.
