Fairies | The Lore, The History, and The Magic

[Other sources were used in this lore, not completely orginal]

What Is A Fairy?

A fairy is a sub-species of the elven race, sometimes considered the result of interspecies communication between elves and daemons, a race with the physical attributes of humans but have the spiritual power of god-like portions. They are short creatures, ranging from 4'5 to 5'5. They have elvish characteristics such as pointed ears, narrow faces, and bright eyes. Wings are rare among the race, but some fairies are more likely to have wings than others, and they can acquire them in different ways. This displays the diversity of fairies, there are three types: nature, spiritual, and ethereal.

General Racial Attributes

Luck: This means good–or bad–fortune. We’d consider any luck to be a curse because there’s always a cost. Under most situations, the person enters into a contract of some kind or provides a service to the fairy. If you break the contract or you don’t deliver as promised, then you get bad luck.

Invisibility: Some groups of fairies can make themselves hidden to other races, or what we perceive has invisibility.

Healing: Some fairies have the ability to heal people. How they do it depends on the fairy. Very few can use touch to heal. Most of them use an ointment or feed you some of its food.

Clairvoyance: A fairy can grant you the ability to see the future, or see the future for themselves.

Flight: Not all fairies have the same form of flight. Some can fly using their wings if they have any. Some don't need wings. Others can fly to a limited extent or height, or use their powers to mimic a form of flight.

Nimble: It varies fairy to fairy, but a strong fairy will be difficult to hit because of their unearthly speed.

Enhanced Senses: Most fairies have better eyesight, hearing, taste, touch and smell than humans. They can see at night with ease, hear better than dogs, better taste than a sommelier, interpret emotions on touch, and smell better than a bloodhound.

Illumination: Fairies can produce light from their bodies at will.

Resistance: These creatures are quite durable for their small size. They can take a licking and keep on ticking. Within 24 hours, a fairy should be healed and ready to go.

Animal Communication: Many fairies can communicate with animals and understand their emotions. They can summon most animals in their immediate area for protection.

Physical/ Nature Fairies:

These fairies are the most commonly found in Alsa and the closely related to modern elves. They live in forests and worship elven gods. Their magic is tied to the elements, animals, and other druidic abilities. They are the tallest fairy group and could most likely live in Alsa as an elf, but very few fairies have an interest outside their village. They view the rest of Alsa as corrupt and unpure.

This type of fairy have all the general attributes: increased agility, dexterity, durability, limited flight, and strong elemental/druidic abilities.

Spiritual Fairies

These type of fairies are less elven and more daemon. They are harder to find, mostly because their abilities can cause outsiders to be unable to see them. Other theories claim that they live on another plane of existence that makes other races unable to see them. They look similar to humans but their bodies are not bound tothe laws of physics. Their bodies can become pure life or translucent, their eyes and hair are unusual compared to their nature counterparts. Finally, they look down on other races including natural fairies as inferiors and weak-minded, comparing themselves as demi-gods.

This type of fairy do not have physical enhancement but have several mental enhancements that could affect their bodies. However, they also live the forest and they could can have some elemental/animalistic/druidic abilities.

Their minds are purely logical and mechanical. They able to perform telepathy and empathy without touch. They can perform telekinesis and create illusions.

They can control energy to a high degree. They can create barriers, absorb the energy of others, create blasts that can destroy an entire city, and build beings of pure energy. Their bodies can be turned into pure energy that can make them fly at the speed of light and make them impervious to attacks. They can also teleport.

No spiritual fairy have every ability listed, but even a couple can give you a hard time if you're not prepared.

Ethereal Fairies

These type of fairies are the rarest and the oldest. They're sometimes called the True Ancestors of the Fairy Race or True Ancestor. They can control space and time, produce energy, see and travel different dimensions, and have a form of immortality. Some don't even think they're not fairies, but elves that became daemons or vice-versa. Ethereal are viewed as concepts of ideas than actual beings. No one is sure of the true power of the ancestors, but they are considered the closest beings to gods.

[meet our fairy historian, Lily White]

Orgin of The Fairy

Their origin takes place among elves and the occult, but no one is really sure how fairies came about. Rumors claimed that elves summoned monsters from another dimension to attack their enemies, but the monsters overpowered them and ravaged the village and the women. Those women gave birth to the fairies. However, most historians view that account as a parable against conjuring dark forces. The other account, and the most accepted by elves, is that the elven gods sent down their sons and daughters to mingle with elves that were worthy as husbands and wives and their descendants were the first fairy. Other races accept a story that takes aspects of the two , that some elves tried to conjure an elven god and that being, which may or may not be an elven god, corrupted the elves and they became the first fairy. Despite which you believe, all groups can agree that elves have had to made contact with a higher being in order to create the Fairy, this first contact is called The First Divination and the being is called The Daemon, a being similar to the Hominulan that is able to become and manipulate pure energy.

The First Ancestors were beings that used that energy for multiple purposes and had different ideas what they should do with it, this had a lot to do with the fact that maybe all the elves affected in the First Divination were not completely corrupted and some managed to retain their sanity. Corruption is defined as the mixture of elven and daemon blood or body, the daemon part possessing great power but disconnect to elven species and beyond. However, in exchange for retaining their elven sanity they were weaker than their more corrupted counterparts. The corrupted ones tried to integrate back to elven society, but the other elves knew that they were vastly superior to them and tried to kill them. Other sources claim that the corrupted First Ancestors tried to control the politics of their various villages and sought to reproduce more First Ancestors to take over Alsa. A group did want to do that called The Ethereal, the ancestors of the ethereal race, because they wanted to unite all the people under one rule and create peace by having the First Ancestors be the only rulers.

The other less corrupted Ancestors did not agree and thus it led to the Great Fairy War where the less corrupted and the elven race fought the Ethereal. There were no losers or winners, the Ethereal 'gave up' and decided that they didn't want to waste their time with inferiors. So they disappeared but no one knows where or when they will return. The less corrupt tried to integrate into elven society again but after experiencing the war they face racism by the elves and afterward lived separately. Some tried to recreate elven society in their villages while others were so spurned by the response by the elves, they decided to live in how the Ethereal would have wanted because the racism they experenced justified the Ethereal's war. Again, no one knows exactly how the Ethereal wanted to live or why the Ethereal did what they did. That split led to the creation of the Nature Fairies and the Spiritual Fairies.
