MAGNOLIA
& JINX
Before Jinx and Magnolia even officially met, they stood opposed. It was a bit of an unfortunate byproduct of Magnolia being part of a rebellion group that fought everything Jinx's surrogate father stood for. It was only natural that, when they finally met, it was on the battlefield. In truth, Jinx probably would've killed Magnolia without a second thought...had she not knocked her mask off her face.

For just a moment, Jinx saw her sister's face staring back at her. Then she blinked, and the details were all wrong—blue eyes had turned brown and her nose was too sharp and there were scars where Vi didn't have scars and it was wrong. Magnolia broke away and, instinctively, without thinking, Jinx shot her in the back.

Jinx isn't stupid. She knows that Magnolia isn't Vi. But when she sees the Firelights flee, sees this girl who looks so much like Vi be the one being abandoned this time around...it triggers something. She isn't quite sure what the emotion is, but it's strong, and before she knows what she's doing, she's scooping Magnolia's bleeding, broken body up in her arms. Magnolia isn't Vi. She will never be Vi. But she's something, and she's something that Jinx wants.

Convincing Silco to let her keep her is easy enough. Just a vague excuse about being able to get information on the Firelights and a flash of the puppy eyes, and she's granted permission to keep the Firelight runt, on the condition that, were anything to go wrong, she would be expected to take care of it herself. Doesn't matter. Jinx isn't going to let anything go wrong. Not this time. She was going to take this messed up situation, and make something good.

Unsurprisingly, they get off to a bad start. Ignoring the fact that Jinx had shot Magnolia (which, in her defense, she stitched up), Magnolia didn't react well to waking up in a cage. She's scared and defiant, but as annoying as her defiance should be, it only further piques Jinx's interest. Magnolia, for better or worse, is fascinating.

And so is Jinx. For as long as Magnolia's known of her, Jinx has been, more or less, a bogeyman. The sort of figure the Firelights whispered about in low, frightened voices, the one they always dreaded confrontation with. Magnolia is determined to escape, but in the meantime, she has a prime opportunity to gain intel on the Firelights' most feared adversary.

As time passes, something new starts to blossom out of their interest, something neither of them are equipped to handle.

MIRELLE
& SEVIKA
Growing up, Mirelle and Sevika were thick as thieves. They met as little girls, when Mirelle was sent downstairs to ask to borrow something from the neighbors and found Sevika, only a few years older than herself, home entirely alone. That didn't sit right with Mirelle, and she was quick to invite Sevika upstairs to stay with her family until her parents got home. The rest is history.

Their childhood was spent causing trouble in the Lanes, picking strangers' pockets for change (which they rarely found) and skipping stones on the toxic lake. There was hardly a moment they weren't side by side. They were hardly Mirelle and Sevika—no, they were MirelleandSevika, always together, joint at the hip, practically one person.

It surprised no one when, as they reached their late teens, the two's relationship started to shift. Mirelle had housed a crush on Sevika for years, but, being a few years older, it was difficult for Sevika to shake the image of Mirelle being a little girl. It was until Mirelle was nearly nineteen, grinning at her around the rim of a stolen bottle of wine, that a rush of attraction and an entirely new sort of affection hit Sevika like a speeding train. She kissed Mirelle that night, and they both thought that, perhaps, it would herald the start of something new and wonderful.

What cosmically terrible timing it was, then, that the very next day Mirelle's parents told her they'd found her a husband in Piltover. Without warning Mirelle of their plans, they had been negotiating with an Enforcer, who agreed to marry Mirelle, and thus give her a comfortable life in Piltover, in exchange for a hefty dowry. Mirelle was heartbroken by the news, but even more heartbroken by the thought of making her parents' sacrifices invalid. So, reluctantly, she went to break the news to Sevika...

...and Sevika exploded. After everything they had been through together, how could Mirelle leave? How could she turn her back on the Undercity, on her people, on Sevika? A horrible fight broke out, ending with them both storming off. Mirelle was sent topside the next morning, and for over a decade, that's the last they see of each other.
