Futuristic Extraterrestrial Embassy

official clown business

Okay so our name is Piss and we are the Mafioso

Several hundred years after the discovery of fast, efficient space travel, the human race has achieved their goal of not only exploring and fully charting their entire galaxy, but also coming across several other galaxies in the process. With the discovery of more habitable planets, other intelligent races and societies, and additional ways to improve their technology, things have gone quite well so far.

As of now, humanity has made excellent progress in their attempts to extend diplomatic relations with the four intelligent races they've come across, and they're well on their way to establishing a peaceful alliance before continuing onto the exploration of other galaxies.

You are an ambassador from the last race the humans have begun diplomacy with, and you plan on visiting one of their planets in order to gain a better understanding of their behaviors and culture before deciding if you're really on board with a friendly alliance, rather than remaining neutral.

What race does the ambassador represent?

A. The ZNAIDRI, a reclusive insectoid race known for their similarities to... scarabs? Other insects? They were originally overlooked due to their tribal nature and lack of an upright stance, and it's only been a couple years since a way to translate their language has been developed.
Znaidri are born with combat instincts. They can use their sharp front appendages to tear through soft objects with ease. While they are unable to carry things with anything but their mouths, an experimental prosthesis is currently being developed to get past this issue.

B. The DRAKIR, a cold-blooded race of green reptilian beings that have been pictured by humans as quite similar to fantasy creatures such as dragons or the Geico gecko. It could go either way, as studies have shown them pointing towards one or the other in equal amounts.
Drakir are capable of surviving in environments with little to no breathable air (underwater, in space, etc.) for up to an hour or two. They also have the most humanoid appearance of the four races.

C. The VRYNNEL, a part-artificial, part-organic race that are entirely grey, with visible cyan 'veins' of energy all around them. Without other races to mimic the appearances of, they are merely shifting shapes of organic and inorganic matter.
Vrynnel have the innate ability to mold themselves to look like anything, but they can also take on a less solid shape if it would assist them in getting through narrow spaces and holes.

D. The OURON, a huge race of rough, rocky creatures that stand much taller and wider than a human being. They possess the ability to quickly adapt to the conditions of any planet they visit, both in appearance and internal function.
Naturally, the Ouron can withstand the most intense conditions and still come out fairly pristine. However, the humans haven't been fully prepared to accommodate 9-foot tall hunks of rock yet.

E. Select a random race. If you'd rather skim through everything, you can just select race based on which one has your favorite color or coolest sounding name, but if decisions are hard or you prefer random chance, this is the option for you!

(I was in the middle of writing out the introductory sequence when I realized there were a couple more options that might have a serious effect on it. Let's take care of these next two first)

The Vrynnel were the last of the four races to be formally approached by the humans, but perhaps this was because the very opposite happened - the Vrynnel had made the decision to approach humanity first, when they saw how quickly the other races were convinced into the alliance.

As far as the five races went, the Vrynnel seemed to be the most unusual, as most of them lived among a large fleet of ships and artificial planets for unknown reasons. In addition to this, they were seen as a fairly passive race, drifting between galaxies and occasionally being seen during a human expedition. Until translation devices were perfected, there were virtually no interactions between the Vryn and other races.

It's been a long while since the humans and Vrynnel first met, and perhaps it won't be long before the two races truly establish a friendly relationship with each other.

Fortunately, the one thing the two races have in common are their preference for technology and order, and before you even considered taking up this mission you had already submitted your qualifications for the viewing of your fleet and the human planet that would be receiving you. Perhaps it would be important to keep in mind what you had typed in before you headed out.

What is the Vrynnel representative's background?

A. SOLDIER - You were trained in combat during your early years, and know your way around weapons. You start with your very own personal sidearm that you've used over the years, and gain an additional option whenever you have a good opportunity to use it.

B. DESCENDANT - You are part of a long line of a wealthy fleet or caste who has provided you with provisions for your journey. You start with a small fortune in credits (space currency), and gain an additional option to select from whenever big spending is involved.

C. UNSAVORY - Your race isn't known for being dishonest or criminal, and you've been using this to your advantage since you were created. You gain an additional option whenever you are able to lie or perform some kind of criminal action.

D. PILOT - The Vrynnel are renowned for their expertise with piloting and maintaining ships and vehicles, and you are no exception here. You have an extensive knowledge of spaceships, and have even brought your own on this journey.

E. AMBASSADOR - Your tact and diplomacy have aided you well as a major representative of your race, and you have already done this job with every race but the humans. You may select an additional Diplomatic Trait (out of the five available) to add to your character.

Just like the rest of the Vrynnel ambassadors you were familiar with, you had prepared for this journey with your very own ship, a sleek Genevhalis Crisclade. While it wasn't exactly a top-of-the-line model (the best ships have far fancier sounding names, as per usual), the customizations you've made to it over the centuries have resulted in something that almost hits the threshold.

It's a small cruiser model, designed more for speed and comfort than anything else. With its rapid acceleration and faster-than-light function, it was a stellar choice for an ambassador such as yourself.

As you maintained your formless shifting in the pilot section of your ship, you reflected on your last, most important qualification before turning the engines on. As an ambassador, you possess a unique trait, acquired from years of mastering diplomacy. It'll almost certainly be helpful to you during your journey into human territory.

What is the Vrynnel representative's Diplomacy Trait?

A. PATIENT - In times of chaos, you never fail to maintain composure. You will never panic in combat or in very tense situations. Without this, your options will usually be restricted to a few words when you panic.

B. INTELLIGENT - You have a knack for easily gaining knowledge about the worlds around you and those who inhabit them. Whenever you encounter a new person, place, or organization, you will automatically receive useful information about them.

C. ORATOR - You are a well-spoken fellow who always thinks their words through before speaking. Dialogue options will always show exactly what you are going to say before you select them.

D. PRACTICAL - You are a great problem-solver who sees situations for how they really are. Some non-dialogue options will be replaced with more creative or descriptive ones that may prove helpful in dealing with a problem.

E. LINGUIST - You can speak, write, and understand every language of every intelligent race in the local galaxies. You have no need for a translation device, and do not require others to translate human or other extraterrestrial text for you.

I'm pretty lazy and uninspired. Especially with the sci-fi genre. But who knows, this might reappear at a later point...
