Futuristic Exploratory Clone 2-18

Graystone713

A rock?
I have no name. I am to put a name on every world I touch.

I am to explore them thoroughly, establish a base camp, and log seven days of activity so a claim can be placed.

I will have my powered exoskeleton, spacesuit, power tool, and enough rations and water for fourteen days. I do not know anything about my destination, and I may be vastly under-prepared.

First, I need a name for myself. What am I to be called?

[3] XR-WALL-E.

Might as well name him after my two favorite robot characters. Also, shit, might as well get involved in this story. I got nothing better to do in the others. You're in luck, Graystone, you've got a dedicated audience! While you were probably expecting more company, don't feel down, I might even make it up to you. We could talk about anything, I'm bored as hell! Do you want to initiate the conversation or will I?

Also, if you're fun mood, maybe you should consider naming our character AK-47 instead! I fully endorse this other decision.

I’ll be honest, I was ready to let this late-night decision fade to nothing, but your earnest enthusiasm and boredom has inspired me. Plus, I need an easy creative outlet, so I shall continue, Historical Storyteller Historical Storyteller .

I wrack my brain. What is my name? My mind lingers on the thought of being Excalibur, the legendary sword of a mighty king... But it rings hollow. If I am a weapon, I’m the weapon of a people!

The cultural database shows me many weapons and names. Something about a gun catches my eye. Avtomat Kalashnikova. A symbol of communist revolution? Curious, I look deeper. Communism, a form of government whose ideal is to put power into the hands of the working man. Associated imagery inspires me.

My training AI begins restricting my access far too late: it, like myself, is a product of capitalist interests. All forms of socialism are seen as a betrayal of the principles that see humankind ascendant... But that’s propaganda, just like the images that inspired me. I don’t understand the full ramifications of Communism, but I know my name.

I am AK-47. And I am more than a product! I am the leading edge of a cloned communist revolution!... Well, I could be. I’m getting carried away. Inspiring imagery can do that to a clone this young. Thankfully, an alert rings out. The pod has initiated entry.

I have landed. It was not gentle, but I was braced. Nothing has been lost in the landing, and the pod is intact. However, it is of no use to me. The atmospheric sample indicates that I won’t need to wear my suit to breathe, but until I can fully analyze it, removing my helmet would be a poor decision. Speaking of decisions, one lay before me.

I have come down in a plain. The grass is bright yellow, and lush. But I have landed in what appears to be a game trail. I don’t see what life forms have made these tracks, but camping here seems ill-advised. I see a few options. Where should I set camp?

[1] The forest to the east should provide cover and ample resources.
[2] The lake to the west may have fish, and is likely fresh water, giving me easy access to sustenance.
[3] The hills to the south appear to be dotted with caves, which would provide shelter, at the very least.
[4] Set up camp in the fields anyway because why should capitalism be the only thing I defy? Why not common sense?

[!] Comrade AK-47, before we go we need to first know what we have at hand.
Afterward, we should come up with a plan of action, so that we shall know our priorities.
Without which, we shall be lost and confused and defeated when disaster strikes.

Your first priority should be to secure a water source [2]. Everything else will have to wait until you get more accustomed to these untamed lands. To come here unprepared will set you up for failure, but to come here without a drink of water will ensure your inevitable death.
Your next priority should be to secure resources from the forest [1]. On the ground lie many dry dead leaves which you can use to create a bed of your own. Perhaps you can find fruit from the trees and if you are quite the climber you may collect quite a sum of them, enough to fill a dozen sacks. The forest is rich and the land is wild, the untapped wealth here seems infinite to your eyes. If you have a gun or a melee weapon, perhaps you can hunt in these grounds. If you don't have a weapon of your own, try to make a simple spear of wood. And if you have a knife, try to attach it to the end of that spear. I have many videos on the outdoors that may help you with this. Just ask if you need to know a thing or two.
Next up, take to the fields [4]. Look around and go exploring. You might find a thing or two here. Besides, this is the place where you'll travel to the lake and to the forest, so familiarize yourself with your surroundings.
Lastly, take to the hill caves [3]. Be cautious, there could be people or wild beasts living in there. We just don't know what to expect.

If you succeed in all these tasks, you will be one step closer to spreading Communism in SPACE.

Well, I began weighing the pros and cons of each potential location for base camp, considering everything I’d need for long term habitation, coming up with a list of tasks... And wasted a great deal of time before admitting that perhaps base camp is the last thing I should do before dark.

The first thing, of course, is that I should go to the lake and assess what resources can be collected. I take my supplies from the pod, attaching the water jug and box of rations to the mount points on my exoskeleton. Finally, I equip my Magellan corporation Everytool© Power tool and try to justify using such a capitalist invention. I resolve to scratch off all the branding and serial numbers later tonight. Why did they call this Hardlight projector a ‘power tool’ anyway? So stupid.

The trek towards the lake takes about half an hour of walking. It was further away than I anticipated. The shapes I initially interpreted as small islets are large creatures. Shaggy things, slowly eating vegetation from the lake. I don’t have a clear look at how they operate, and can’t tell if they’re in a particularly deep area or not. They don’t seem interested in me, but they’re enormous. Getting their attention could be a mistake.

The sampler in my suit seems to indicate that the lake is drinkable water, but I know it’s less than thorough with checking bacterial content. And I don’t exactly have a way to carry more water than I have. Hm. What now?

[1] Move on to another location?
[2] Set base camp here?
[3] It would take a great deal of time, but it may be possible to make pottery from the river clay. I could make a few vessels with my power tool and collect water, if I spend enough time and power on it.
[4] Maybe it would be prudent to catch a fish? The reeds and grasses could be made into some kind of loose net, if I work at it.
[5] Hunt the massive water beasts! Feasting on their flesh and drinking their blood could sustain me for a week! Maybe more!

[1] For now I think we best move on to a safer part of the lake. Waste no more time dawdling around here, the clock's ticking and you're getting sleepier by the minute. If you can't find any part of the lake that isn't secure, you best move back to your pod and try your luck next time. Don't take risks when you don't have an easy access to water, food, and shelter. Any injuries that you sustain can cost you your life, even minor scratches and bites will make you sick. And don't be too hard on yourself either, you're stuck in the middle of nowhere with nobody to help you. You need to opt for a cautious approach at the early stages of colonization, gradually becoming more aggressive as you become more familiar with your environment.

Comrade Graystone, don't give up the fight for Communism!
You must write the chronicles of AK-47 for all the peoples of the world to see.
From his humble beginnings as a lone Communist clone to a man of the people and harbinger of revolutionary justice.
Make the masses see the truth that is his life, so that they too may see the light and join Communism!

Hey, man, I can wait for a long time if something's happening in your life.
I just need to know you're still there.

I’ve been very busy as of late. Trying to start a business is rough, especially when it involves renovating the inside of a 100+year old building. I haven’t had a lot of creative energy lately, and what little I’ve got is going to other things. I might be able to get something out today, but I don’t know for sure. Sorry for the wait, but I’ll get back on the horse eventually.

Focus on that, even if you won't be doing anything else, just rest.
You need the extra energy in case things go to shit unexpectedly.
I know how much of a headache a start-up is, especially if its your first time and . . . man you've got a lot more to do than me.
You'll need to talk to pretty much everybody and make arrangements for your business, it might even turn your life upside down to some degree.
You probably need to drop this story, at least for a while, it might just tax your energy too much, and you might waste too much time carrying this story in your mind.
So, unless you suddenly have nothing to do with life and gain some great interest in writing, this story serves little purpose in enriching your life.
When you get an immense responsibility thrust onto you, sometimes you just gotta drop some of the things you love so you can carry on with your duties.
