I don't know really. I guess Lovecraft was from a similar area, plus the rural part of it has this somewhat obscure or eerie quality? Like it's a part of the world most don't pay attention to but it's actually full of secrets?
It's in part because of its history such as with Salem Massachusetts where the witch trials wen ton, and because Lovecraft was inspired by the dichotomy he saw such as the decay within Massachusetts both natural and to him moral. It became the trademark lovecraftian location due to how many of his stories take.place there.

Wow I have to apologize cause after doing some research there's a perfect spot in the around New York that fits the vibe. For Duck I won't outright say it's America (not like I know my laws all that well but we don't want some uncanny valley stuff with culture) but the look is perfect.

I mean I would say he lives like a bit away from where this is I kinda thought it was boarding school vibes I can make him be closer to the school if its not that lol
For Damon at least the idea was more roving Sage teaching in random little spots than an actual school. The other Mentor I had would have been more that. So long as you can reason why your character would be in the city that fine.
