I BONE OF THE SWORD
The City of Ashridge(Current Location)
Overview:
Ashridge is a decaying riverfront city nestled between glacier-carved cliffs and dense pine-choked hills. Once a vital node in the nation's industrial artery, the city was famous for its precision clockwork exports, rail-port networks, and its secretive Cold War-era facilities. Today, the foundries are cold, the canals are stagnant, and the streets crack beneath rusting bridges and flickering sodium lights.Ashridge didn’t die all at once. It shifted—quietly, unnaturally. Roads started to misalign. GPS signals cut out. People walking familiar paths found themselves blocks away with no memory of turning. Old train lines vanish from maps but show up in the morning fog, screeching by with no passengers. At first, it was just dismissed as infrastructure decay. But those attuned to the strange know the truth:
Ashridge is slipping sideways—into the Umbra.
The Umbra’s Influence:
Ashridge is a borderline rupture zone: a city slowly overwriting itself with metaphysical errors, where the Umbra manifests not with grand battles but in subtle warping of space, time, and meaning. The God of Angles, a silent Umbra Entity of incomprehensible spatial intent, has anchored a sliver of its cognition here. It does not act violently—but persistently. It folds the world inward, sharpens geometry until it slices through reason, and reflects impossible futures in mundane surfaces.
Structures in Ashridge become more “real” than people. Buildings remember things. Rooms rewrite themselves. Shadows fall in directions that contradict physics. And those who study or invoke Essence here risk contamination—being mentally or physically “angled,” becoming more than three-dimensional in ways the human mind can’t contain. The changes are slow and gradual, but unstoppable for the people living within Ashridge.
The Ashridge Fracture is monitored by a clandestine organization, but most operations avoid the city. Not because of hostility—because it resists comprehension. They continue to wait, until an opportunity to presents itself.

Locals & Culture:
Despite the growing anomalies, life in Ashridge trudges on. Most residents are ordinary people who’ve long since stopped asking questions. They work their jobs, drink at the dive bars, complain about the cold, and ignore the unease curling in the city’s bones. When someone disappears, it’s chalked up to poverty, addiction, or rumors about gangs in the woods. Urban legends cover the cracks: stories like “The Corner Man,” “The Frosted Window,” or “The Eye in the Grate.”
Older families—those with deep roots in the city—often harbor folk traditions meant to ward off Umbra influence: mirrors above doors, salt in windowsills, or rituals involving compass needles and shadow lengths.
There’s also a hidden subculture: Umbra scholars, and hollow-eyed bounty hunters among others working to push back against the unseen geometry bleeding into their world.
