People are free to create whatever they want. You should feel comfortable submitting your faction without being afraid of it being one of many. I'm positive you have some cool and unique ideas that the others factions might not have. If you're still feeling a bit wary, feel free to contact any of the GMs on discord, and we'll gladly help you out.

No, it's fine. Like I said, I've already been considering one of three to four different factions from what I originally intended on submitting for a while now - the influx of new factions that seem to share the same basic concept of being breakaway territories from the EspWars version of Russia only serves to solidify that.

I haven't discarded my ideas for the Eastern European faction I originally came up with, in fact your reply rekindled them, so it might well end up making an appearance in spite of all this, but it's not been my first choice for some time. Besides, doing research and brainstorming for a potential African or South American faction is giving me a good intellectual workout, and I've also never really lost my desire to feature a 'proper' version of the PMC faction that I was fielding in earlier versions of EspWars as hosted on Facepunch (even if the current version of the equipment list features far more 1911 and AR-15 variants than could be considered healthy or logical...).

Forged in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kamchatka was initially a communist country, the aftershock of the collapse of the USSR left many republics shattered and in economic ruin.
Kamchatka was fortunately half spared, this was due to the trade hub of Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky had been the gateway from the USSR to the Pacific ocean. Though it wasn't long before the dreams of freedom and western ideals had started to grip the Kamchatkan people, in 1995 after serve pressure from the population the Communist government ceeded and held a referendum. The Democratic party which had be suppressed since well before the fall of the USSR had their moment as they won with a 98% victory, Kamchatka had officially become democratic nation and was soon contact by other nations such as the Pacific States of America and the Khabarovsk Federation.

The trend with this particular iteration of EW seems to be that there are minor bursts of activity followed by long periods of inactivity.

I was going to tell you that there is a "it's never too late to join" tagline, but the weird thing is I've just checked both the OP of this thread and the Espionage Wars wiki and I can no longer find that tagline for some reason despite me distinctly remembering that there was such a tagline.

This is Constantino Malik Sinagtala Barerra
He is a Filipino separatists on the island of Leyte seeking independence from the main government. He is head of the Leyte Independence Movement.
He is beloved by the people for his policies of restoring order to the unstable region and ensuring economic stablity.
He is target of many radical groups who do not want to see him in power as well as his political opponents running for president.
Because of this he hires his own private security from around the world.

Opponents have tried to assassinate him several times, but he has survived every attempt.
During one attempt a bomb was set off near his limo, and Barerra took shrapnel in the right thigh and his left cheek.
Because of this he has a scar on his left face and walks with a cane.​

This is Whitman. He is head of Barerras security force.
He is from South Africa and has served in the South African special forces.
He has been Barerra's personal guard since 2016 and is loyal to the end. He has saved his life on many occasions.
He favors the AK.
He is more loyal than just money. He is a close friend to Barerra and would be devastated if anything happened to him.

On the night of August 9th, an important meeting was held between key members of the LIM to discuss future policy. Security around the building was extremely tight.

Snipers watched from afar in case of any attacks.

In attendance was one Ignacio Cordoba (guy on the right).
He is head of the militant wing of the LIM and controls his own personal guerrilla force which he uses to fight the local authorities.
Because of his actions the LIM is dangerously close to being considered a terrorist organization.
Cordoba and his fighters are muslim, while Barerra and other high ranking party members are Christian, which often leads to conflicts of interest.

Cordoba's methods frequently put him at odds with Barerra and the other moderate members of the LIM, who favor a more peaceful diplomatic approach to winning independence from the Filipino government.
Barerra and the other members of the LIM have publicly disowned Cordoba and his guerrilla fighters, though he still retains a seat at the table during matters of internal affairs.
Talks ran long into the night, with Cordoba and other radicals refusing to budge on their position of violent opposition to the Filipino government. By the end of talks, both sides were at a deadlock, and nothing significant was achieved.
Further talks will be held at a later date.

Colombia, Medellin outskirts

Unknown group blockades the city!
Reports of an unknown, armed organisation blocking the major roads to the city of Medellin have reached us several hours ago. The group's origin and reason for this blockade are yet unknown, and the inquired soldiers refused to comment on this. Reports says that one of their higher-ranking members has claimed to be working under the goverment's mandate, but couldn't reveal any more information. Witnesses also report that the men were speaking with foreign accents, suggesting that they might be some sort of mercenaries.
And so, Black Company once again resumes to function. They have been aproached by Colombian goverment to assist them in couter-insurgency activities north of Medellin, where remnants of FARC and other militias are said to be hiding. The Company decided to split it's force into three sections: first section is to blockade major roads leading into and out of the city...

...second one is to make an incursion with ground and aerial support...


...and the third one is to locate and apprehend any dissidents that might be tied to the anti-goverment militias.


Board of Directors hopes that this operation turns out succesful, and that Colombian goverment will repay them generously.

The North Sea Union is a pan-Nordic movement originating in Norway and Denmark during the Cold War. After the brutal years of the German occupation, and seeing the rise of the USA and USSR as the two global superpowers, the Scandinavians believed that, if something did not change, they would forever be subservient to the will of the global hegemons. Believing that self-determination could only be achieved through the unification of all the Scandinavian countries, in 1957 the Mayors of Stavanger and Aalborg signed the Nordic Writ of Unity, declaring their belief in a unified state to control the North Sea, with inspiration from the historic North Sea Empire of Cnut the Great.

The goal of the North Sea Union is to unify all of Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland into one nation, with a strong military and economy to resist the power of foreign nations such as the US and Russia. Some members of the NSU also believe in absorbing parts of Northern Germany. In order to foster a distinctly Scandinavian culture, the North Sea Union established a modernized version of Norse paganism, known as "Ravenism" as its official religion, and established "Modern Norse," a reconstruction of Old Norse based heavily around Icelandic, as its official language.
Despite controlling only parts of Norway and Denmark, the NSU has gained noticeable strength by exploiting the natural resources in the region, primarily Stavanger's oil. The nation's military, the Royal Nordic Armed Forces, is composed of the Royal Nordic Navy, Army, Naval Air Service, Air Army, and Marine Corps, and is supplied primarily through purchasing U.S. and German equipment.

The government of the North Sea Union consists of a bicameral legislature, known as the Great Althing, which functions like a standard electoral democracy and is led by a Prime Minister. In place of a head of state, however, is a council of monarchs from the former member states. Known as the "Royal Council," they elect a single monarch to the position of "King of Kings of the Norse," who functions as the head of state of the North Sea Union. Since the NSU currently does not control any Nordic state completely, the role of head of state is assumed by the Prime Minister.

“The German Armed Forces remain on high alert after several Danish cities were occupied by armed infantry. We can now confirm that the force is primarily composed of soldiers of the North Sea Union Army, the KNH, which crossed the Norse-Danish border at around 3:47am local time. The German and Dutch governments have both said that the Nordic government is in contact with them, and has confirmed that the invasion will not extend past the Danish border. The President has announced that all flights to and from Denmark, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands have been cancelled until the situation improves.

Currently casualty counts as of 7AM this morning are 24 Nordic Army soldiers killed, 47 Danish Army soldiers and 67 Danish police killed, and over 300 wounded on both sides of the conflict. The initial size of the invasion force is estimated at around 8,000 soldiers, supported by tanks and air power.

Denmark had been in chaos for the past two weeks as Danish police forces have engaged with pro-unification protestors, wishing for Denmark and its overseas territories to unite with the North Sea Union into a pan-Nordic superstate. In the cities of Velje and Esbjerg, heavily armed militiamen collectively known as the “Canute Brigade” have begun demonstrating in public wielding assault rifles. It is believed that the Canute Brigade was covertly organized and supplied by the North Sea Union, due to reports that Canute members have assisted the Norse Army in combat with Danish security forces. The protests have continued in areas under NSU occupation, and have been joined by both the KNH and Canute Brigade.

Velje was among the major targets of the Nordic invasion, with the NKH 2nd and 3rd Brigades occupying the city from Viborg, and the 1st Brigade deploying from the city of Struer to Esbjerg. NSU forces have also occupied Aabenraa and have declared the whole of the Jutland Peninsula under Nordic control.

A spokesperson for the KNH, General Nielsen, has confirmed that the ultimate target for the North Sea Union is Copenhagen. Due to the speed and unexpected nature of the invasion, the Danish military has suffered several defeats, and the remainder of Danish forces have retreated to Funen and Zealand to defend the capital. The status of Denmark’s overseas territories, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, are unknown at this time."

With local elections ramping up in Leyte, political violence also becomes more common. On the morning of October the 8th, a vehicle bomb detonated near a polling place, killing several voters, 2 Filipino soldiers, and wounding 10 more. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but most media outlets are quick to point the finger at the LIM's militant elements.

With the Filipino government breathing down their necks, the LIM must take drastic action in order to ensure its survival. Barerra makes a call to Cordoba, who vehemently denies any and all involvement with the attack. Barerra then makes the call for the two to meet and discuss a new plan.

The two party leaders meet late at night at a secret location to discuss their next move. What they spoke about no one knows, as the only other person privy to the meeting was Whitman, who of course would die before leaking any sensitive information.

The night is cold, and the air is tense.
After being ambushed and hammered by the KNH, the remnants of the Royal Danish Army fled to Zealand. After regrouping with the forces at Slagelse military base, the Danes are anxious to defend Copenhagen from the Vikings. If they can just defend the bridges between Jutland, Funen and Zealand, they might be able to drain the Norse inertia and prepare a counterattack.
But meanwhile...

KNH special forces, heavily armed with rocket launchers and mortars, disembark from unmarked cargo ships and sneak their way towards Slagelse. The Danes have braced themselves to defend their bridges, but they have forgotten that the Vikings are a seafaring people. And as the sun rises the next morning, the unit known as the Lindisfarne Raiders launches its attack.

After the raid, 8 Danish Leopard tanks are destroyed, another two are damaged, and seven Danish soldiers are dead. Out of a force estimated at 40 soldiers, 17 Vikings have fallen and gone on to Valhalla. However, this attack has reduced the Danish Army's ability to defend Copenhagen and all but eliminated the hopes of retaking Danish Jutland.
Thor has struck his anvil, and soon Copenhagen shall feel the wrath of the gods.

Following the car bombing on the 8th, the LIM has decided that the Filipino government is incapable of properly protecting the people of Leyte. To this end, the LIM has decided to seize a swath of territory around their base city of Ormoc on the western end of the island. LIM security forces quickly establish checkpoints in and out of the city and have declared the area a free democratic zone free from political violence or voter intimidation. They have explicitly stated that the LIM is not seceding from the Philippines but simply taking extra measures to protect Filipino citizens and are willing to cooperate with the Filipino government to a reasonable extent.

In this safe zone the LIM has bankrolled a number of relief efforts to more impoverished areas. Shipments of food and other basic necessities have been coming in and out of the zone by the truckful every day.

In the meantime, Barerra decides to put Cordoba and his militia to use. Through the course of 3 days the LIM makes a number of raids on known terrorist positions in the more rural areas.

Deciding this momentous event would be excellent PR, Barerra invites a number of international news outlets to chronicle the happenings in the LIM "safe zone". Here Barerra can be seen showing a camera crew around an infrastructure restoration project in the city of Ormoc. Barerra hopes to earn extra face with the world given that he is personally bankrolling the restoration and relief efforts from his massive fortune gained from years of smart international investments.

With police too scared of insurgent attacks to enforce law and order, the LIM has taken over most of the local precincts in Ormoc. Despite using Cordoba's militia as enforcers, Barerra's security forces are the most prominent in the public eye due to concerns that Cordoba's fighters may intimidate the local populace due to their undisciplined appearance. Here a couple of Cordoba's fighters can be seen dropping off captured terrorists to a police station under the control of Barerra's security forces. A statement has been issued to the Filipino government that the LIM is willing to turn the insurgents over to their jurisdiction if they are willing to make concessions for the people of Leyte.

On a brisk Tuesday afternoon on October 10th, one of the many imperial court buildings in Bandar Abbas, Karaq, was stormed by a unknown number of armed assailants.
The Karaqi National Police were quick to surround the building and evacuate the neighbouring buildings. Various sources claim there is between 5-10 dead and a unknown number of hostages.
The assailants have opened fire on the police as they arrived, so far killing one and it is suspected they have taken another one hostage.

A Viking Army lieutenant walks into a cluttered, hastily set-up office, occupied by a single older man. The lieutenant salutes and stands at attention, as the older gentleman pours over documents.

"Yes, Lt. Falla, what news do you bring?" asked General Ulrich Nielsen, commander of the Norse invasion of Denmark.
"Sir, the raid on Slagelse was successful. Eight Danish tanks have been destroyed."
"Wonderful" Nielsen said. "Anything else?"
"Yes sir, a status update from the Great Althing."
Falla opens the folder he is carrying and begins. "Prime Minister Olsen has approved your request to prepare a preliminary naval occupation of the Faroe Islands. The Great Althing agrees with your assessment both on the region's strategic value, as well as the necessity to prevent the Danish royal family from establishing an exile regime on the island."
Nielsen was not surprised. A state based around the North Sea would need naval bases, and the Faroes were premier real estate.
"Secondly, the Great Althing has confirmed that Queen Margrethe of Denmark has refused to join our government, and so a Konungr will have to be elected independently."
Nielsen nodded but didn't much care. He never cared much for royalty, or government affairs at all for that matter.

Falla prepared to leave, but stopped. "You know sir, a few of the men said they think you should be king."
"Me, a king?" Nielsen laughed. "That won't happen."
"At any rate, sir, if I may - I agree with them. The King of the Vikings should be a warrior, and there are none as cunning as you."
"That's flattering, Lt. Falla, I assure you, but I'm a general, not a king. It'll be Olsen or the Mayor of Stavanger. It's not like it matters to me anyway, son. But still, thank you." He couldn't deny, the consideration was something else to him.

Falla saluted and left the room, leaving Ulrich to ponder his maps, and now, his thoughts. "Ulrich, King of Kings." The words rolled suprisingly smoothly off his tongue.
He chuckled. "If only."

Khabarovsk-Russo border. October 23, 2020. 3:32 PM
For the first time in 5 years, action flares up on the Khabarovsk-Russian border. Russian troops opened fire upon Khabarovskan border guards on a sunny afternoon last Friday. A nearby Khabarovskan BTR swung into action minutes later and laid down covering fire. The Russian troops withdrew. This was the most deadly border incident in over 10 years, with 13 Khabarovskan and 22 Russian servicemen losing their lives.



Later that evening, president Anatoly Mikhailov of the Khabarovsk Federation addressed the nation. As he was a soldier during the independence movement of Khabarovsk, he understood the feelings and thoughts of the Khabarovskan people. Clearly emotional, he condemns Russia for their actions, and moreover, their silence. He demands a response from the Putin and the Russian government immediately.

VICE News correspondent Jack Ostrovsky covers the story unfold in for their new mini-documentary series "Russian Roulette: Khabarovsk".
"Tensions have never been higher between the two countries, and it seems that Khabarovskan ground troops are moving to reinforce the border. The situation seems to be getting more and more dire, as Russian officials still haven't responded to last night's presidential speech, yet Russian tanks were spotted by Khabarovskan scouts moving closer to the border. One can only hope for a better outcome of this situation for the Khabarovskan people and their nation."

In the subsequent weeks following the establishment of the Ormoc "safe zone", both the LIM and Filipino government have been attending negotiations in Paris. Unfortunately the negotiations proved fruitless; despite offering to cooperate with the government in whatever ways he could, Barerra came away from the negotiation table a criminal. The LIM is now considered a radical secessionist movement and the "safe zone" an illegitimate rebel enclave. Furthermore, all ballots from citizens within the LIM zone will be considered void in all elections until the zone is dismantled.

After the closure of negotiations, Barerra returns to Leyte to take stock of the situation. Due to the tense atmosphere, Barerra is forced to travel more inconspicuously than his usual limousine motorcade. Unfortunately a tip to the Filipino government led to Barerra's escort being stopped 15 miles outside of Ormoc.

Barerra and his escort, including Whitman, are quickly apprehended without incident. They will be transferred to Manila to await trial and sentencing.

With the capture of Barerra, the Filipino government issues an ultimatum to the LIM to dismantle the "safe zone" and turn themselves in to the authorities. Barerra himself added on to the decree that he wishes for no violence and the LIM is to cooperate with the government as much as possible to avoid bloodshed. Despite the other remaining party officials ordering Cordoba and his militia to stand down, the guerrilla leader decides to take matters into his own hands. Calling together a few of his most trusted lieutenants, the LIM militia hatches a plot that could prove momentous for the future of Leyte.

In what the North Sea Union has dubbed “Operation World Serpent”, members of the Viking Royal Army (the former KNH) have assaulted and captured the Danish islands of Lolland, Falster, and Møn.

The VKH 2nd Brigade, assisted by Viking special forces units, boarded helicopters in the Viking-occupied village of Aarøsund, departing at 5:00am local time and making landings at Naksov and Nykøbing Falster at 5:57am, and occupying Stege at noon that day. Viking casualties are estimated at 16 dead and 40 injured. Elements of the Viking 4th Brigade have begun shoring up defenses on the islands in anticipation for Danish counterattacks. With the loss of these three islands, the North Sea Union has gained the ability to cut off logistics between Funen and Zealand, and are inching closer and closer towards Copenhagen. While the Danish capital remains out of range of Viking heavy artillery, the loss of the Danish southern islands could prove fatal for the Christian kingdom.

Many are shocked by the revelation that the Viking soldiers were reportedly armed with Russian equipment, especially the AK-74M assault rifle and Mi-17 “Hip” transport helicopter. Whether the armaments were supplied by Russia, an alternate Eurasian state such as Tchvonia or Volhynia, or a third party, are unknown.

The use of Russian armaments points to a longstanding tenet of Northmen political theory: that the North Sea Union must exist outside of either Western or Eastern spheres of influence, and should trade as an entirely neutral party with both. Operation World Serpent calls to mind the words of NSU founder Erik Johansen in 1979: “We are not, and must never become, subjects of the West or the East. We will not march in lockstep with the Soviet Union, nor will we pledge ourselves in suzerainty to NATO. We must walk where fate wills us - and that fate is neither an Eastern nor a Western fate. Our destiny is not written in Washington or Moscow, it is written in the tides of the North Sea.”

BREAKING NEWS: VENEZZIOLA STARTS MILITARY EXERCISES "FOR A MASSIVE ACTION"
Earlier today, the President stated that the reason of this exercises was for the testing of the readiness of the Armed Forces for an upcoming conflict, according to sources.

The Minister and Subsecretary of Defense made a press conference for which they claimed that "A zone or various zones in conflict will be witness of the resolution of our men and women, who will be on the frontliness ensuring the victory of Venezziola and it´s allies, for the safety of said, and the world"

The exercises have been nationwide, expressing the total power of the Venezziolan war machine, with a mix of the old armament of the dictatorship and old Republic´s era, alongside newer purchased equipments.


As the exercises are about to finish, the Venezziolan resolution, alongside it´s almost done conquest of the Guayana, has the world waiting impatiently for the next move of the country.

At the end of the deadline, Filipino troops and police move into Ormoc to clear out the LIM. Once inside however, they quickly find the majority of the city abandoned. Where all the inhabitants went, no one knows.
