Name: Charles
Area of Expertise: Weapon Systems

Charlie is a cheerful young man who talks to guns and wants to kill his dad.
[/div][div class="tabContent 2"]

Gender: male
Species/Race: clone
Age: 10 months (Around 17 years in appearance)
Weight: 70 kg
Height: very average

Inmate Code: Looney
Reason for Incarceration: Foreign Criminal Exchange Program

Personality:
Charles is a nice guy sorta guy. But, just between us, I wouldn't turn my back towards him if I were you.

He has a strong sense of what's right and wrong but it mostly applies to... uh, weapons. Not people. It's strange. Still weirds me out when he talks to the damn junk.

Other than that, everything is stellar. Does what you tell him to, doesn't ask questions. Keep him happy and he will keep you happy.

Weapon of Choice:
Prefers firearms but will very reluctantly use blades as well. You can always expect him to have something that kills on his body.

Methods of Fighting:
As a clone, his body was engineered to be stronger and smarter than that of an average human. So while he posses no formal firearms or melee training you can expect him to be a worthy foe even to trained soldiers.

Refuses to fight unarmed to even under threat of death.

[/div][div class="tabContent 3"]

Somewhere far away there is an empire. The larger this empire grew the more enemies it got, and it is the largest thing that Charlie knows.

Among its people was a scientist who wanted to build a weapon. He loved his country and his machine was going to put an end to all the conflicts and suffering in the empire. But when the construction was done the weapon ended up so large and complex even the scientist himself could not pilot it.

dcucxml-8108cea1-9b6c-40ce-96e1-e44093533d6d.jpg

He would spend years trying to create a pilot for his machine. Dozens of dozens of clones were engineered, grown and educated for his cause. None were compatible, many were discarded.

Getting desperate, the man even tried to clone himself.

And, surprise, the clone showed promise. He had good numbers. So good he even got a name, Charles. The caretakers praised him and in turn he was looking forward to his purpose. But Charles too, would soon be rejected by the weapon.

Empires genetic pool protection policies dictate that all clones and sub humans must be disposed of when they are no longer needed. Unlike the ones before him Charlie was only sent to rot on a foreign prison planet.

He does not know who he should thank for defying the law and saving his life, but surely not his father.

Howard Kent
Age: 27
Role: Warp Drive Operator / Salesman / Lawyer

Howard is a very ordinary corporate workhorse who happens to have a knack for falling into the heart of interstellar political war-conflicts. He is also trying to suppress a small inferiority complex towards his much more impressive crew mates.

[/div][div class="tabContent 2"]
Hairstyle: Short unkempt hair that has the vibrant color of a grey plastic keyboard.
Eye color: Dark brown.
Height: Average
Weight: Less than average

Extra features:
  • Keeps his tie loose.

Howard is a fairly laid back guy when he does not have to face off against cosmic horrors.

He has an uncanny talent for finding a common ground with people he should have nothing in common with and is surprisingly sharp when it comes to guessing the intentions of others. So long as their personality can be comprehended by a mortal human mind.

Nation:
Planet:
Not of importance (atm)
Previous Profession: Something that has to do with accounting, management or something along those lines. Howard is yet to give a straight answer to this.

Traits
Addictions/Vices:

  • Coffee
  • Feels somewhat inferior to the rest of the crew. They have exciting lives full of action and freedom. Some have fought against space pirates and what not. At the same time, what is the best thing Howard can boast about? Spreadsheets?
Abilities:
  • While it is not something Howard is aware of, his existence is a small spacetime anomaly. It has a troublesome side effect of arranging events in such a way that Howard will always find himself involved with largest conflicts around himself. His life is surrounded by unlikely coincidences that can both help and greatly impede his progress. It is almost like something is pushing his destiny towards a predetermined direction. The question is, where does it lead?
Beliefs:
  • (on hold, until I get a better grasp of the character. Otherwise a fairly normal set of morals)
Quirks:
  • Coffee
  • Watches a Friday evening sitcom he absolutely can't miss.
[/div][div class="tabContent 3"]
Skill set:
  • Space navigation
  • Trivia
  • Languages
  • Interstellar law and economics
Role on the ship: Warp Drive Operator / Salesman / Lawyer

Job description:

Warp space navigation is a delicate skill that generally requires at least a few years of specialized education. With proper tinkering a good navigator can cut off days of travel between remote star systems. And otherwise, a ship risks getting caught into a warpstorm or worse... The otherworldly beasts that lurk in the depths of hyperspace are no joke.

Although Howard always had a mild fascination with space pilots, his parents did not. A more rational thing to do, was of course, to get a real job. So Howard applied for a course in marketing and management, only to spend the following years of his life as an accountant corporate slave. The pay was pretty good until the last wave of layoffs.

Having found a new job amongst the crew of Chattan, Howard got a chance to apply the years of knowledge he had casually learned through documentaries and books... And surprisingly he is not half bad at it. With his help Chattan can move between solar systems in quite the speedy manner, even for a freight ship.

That said, as a small private business Chattan cannot avoid legal formalities. Being the only crew member with the appropriate education, the duty of forging deals, contracts and answering phone calls often falls onto Howard.

Project Name: Two
Avatar Id: #A02

In ancient Rome, once a gladiator was defeated the audience would often call out to the winner to execute the weakling. How often does this happen in an avatar battle?

Two, is an avatar that takes the form of a young woman. Her cheerful laughter and sharp one-liners have once reached the hearts of many teens across the world. It just so happened that in their thirst for excitement, the bulk of her audience could get surprisingly cruel at times. Out of her countless battles, many have ended in a death call. And every time, she complied, drawing her blade with an eager smile.

Until one day she ended up on the losing side. She was spared.

Appearance:
Full body [pic drawn for this character.]
two_by_gandalfman-db8sqr1.jpg

Creator:
Darrsoft is a major corporation that provides server hosting services on an industrial scale. It funds the development and maintenance of several lines of avatars, including the one Two belongs to. Although the development team cares about Two, the decision as to whether Two is maintained or is up to the Darrsoft board of directors.

Persona:
Being cheerful and optimistic, Two often works for the audience without realizing it. As an avatar made for AvA sport (avatar vs avatar), she enjoys overcoming great odds and is very competitive. Based on an older AI framework, she is not capable of true empathy, which in certain situations makes it difficult for her to communicate with newer avatars.

Although quite open and by no means shy, Two rarely forms strong bonds with other avatars. She shows up, loud, confident, and then just sort of... disappears for a year or two.

Age: 4

Origin:
Made with a competitive focus, an in-character background was not integrated as a part of Two's memory. In fact, "cybernetic warrior" is as rich as her flavor text gets.
Duels vs Tournaments

Although regular tournaments do not allow for avatar death, Two used to specialize in duels - an anything goes alternative to tournaments. Once both parties accept a duel, the [safe-zone damage absorption] will be lifted for these avatars until either of them dies or openly admits their loss ("I forfeit") and the other accepts it ("I allow for your loss").

Needless to say it is a very loose form of battling that is open to many loopholes and trickery. There are stories of duelists being forced to admit defeat when the other side brought in a safe-zone protected friend from outside the duel, cases of avatars running away from battle leaving both of them vulnerable for prolonged amounts of time, and even using system bugs to gain unfair advantage.

Accepting a duel is a big matter in the world of Avarice. Due to attention it gathers, there has formed a community of avatars around duels. Many of them are willing to take on the risks for the sake of a quick popularity boost. But even among them, winning by killing is still very much frowned upon.

Once a well-known avatar, she had earned a questionable reputation within the world of Avarice for a rather imposing kill streak. She kept climbing through the charts until the day she faced an avatar produced by the same company that created her. Boasting better optimized algorithms as well as a capability for empathy, the avatar named Three started off its promotional launch campaign with a flawless victory against Two.

Without comment, Two gave up her modules for the most basic ones and left the popular battling locations. Couple of years later, she has a small following that she maintains by exploring the parts of Avarice where most other avatars wouldn't step in. Unknown to Two, her creator company is running out of reasons to maintain her server.

[div class="tabsContent tab1"]Name: Roue
Gender: Female
Age: 17

Roue is a deadpan bully who tries hard to never be surprised by anything. At night she takes great care to make sure nobody sees her climbing onto the rooftop to stargaze.
[div class="tabsContent tab2" style="display: none;"] [/div][div class="tabsContent tab2" style="display: none;"]Personality:

Despite the know-it-all image she tries to maintain, Roue is a much friendlier person than she seems at first. She will often try to help out those in need, but probably won't go out of her way if the person in trouble does not ask for it.

Goal: Become an aircraft pilot? Maybe even a spaceship pilot?
Obstacle: An aircraft pilot is a rare job that requires years of education and is generally only available in the capital. Being a spaceship pilot is even further out there, as it is only something a space citizen can do.

Capabilities:
  • - A decent driver. Old man Bohrium would often ask her to run errands for him on his old truck, and sometimes even lets her take it for a ride... Provided he is in a good enough mood.
  • - Usually carries around a fist-sized hand held TV. Likes to watch the news about the latest exploits of war heroes and rather over magnified movies about them. The transmission from Skyhook gives a pretty inconsistent signal but it is best you can get here.
[/div][div class="tabsContent tab3" style="display: none;"] [/div][div class="tabsContent tab3" style="display: none;"]Current situation:

Lives at the edge of town near the local gas station, where she spends most of her time. She helps out old man Bohrium to run the station although clients are pretty rare.

Roue lives with her parents and two younger brothers. They are an unapologetically wholesome family, to the extent that she is embarrassed by some of her parents' more intense shenanigans.

Her dad operates heavy machinery at one of the large state farms about half an hour away from the town. When Roue was still a kid he used to often bring her along to work and even let her drive a harvester.

Her mom spends most of her time in town, looking after the children and keeping up the family garden. She grows a variety of quality of life plants some of which she is uses in cooking or shares with neighbors.

Backstory:

In most outposts, Dunnell town being no exception, children go to school for eight grades and are expected to start working around the age of fifteen. It is not seen as something terribly useful, but hey, everyone and their grandmother had to go through school so it must be good for the kids.

Roue did really well in her studies and by the time she was approaching the end of middle school, her homeroom teacher offered to talk with his colleague under the Skyhook to let her continue her studies in the capital.

Although it meant Roue would have to spend a few years away from the town, if she did well enough she could have moved on to get higher education. Maybe even land a job there. Even becoming an aircraft pilot was not entirely out question.

Yet after some consideration her parents had to refuse. They gave a number of reasons, chief one being that it was still to early for her to move out on her own. Roue didn't want to accept it at first but seemed to calm down when her dad said she can do as she pleases once she grows up.

Within a few years it gradually became clear that the opportunity was forever lost. The teacher moved out of town, and the capital was not exactly in high demand of teenagers who haven't gone through high school.

While Roue does not hold contempt for her parents, she sees them as shortsighted and is a bit ashamed of their provincial way of life. Old cars and trucks may not be air crafts, but working around them seem to be at least a little bit cooler than going to a state farm.
[/div][div class="tabsContent tab4" style="display: none;"] [/div][div class="tabsContent tab4" style="display: none;"]What is it:

A three meter (10ft) tall robot painted in shades of red and white. It spends most of the time hunched over, two sharp fins pointing upwards from its back.

What can it do:

It is an autonomous robot possessing rudimentary intellect, that was originally supposed to obey the commands of the person recognized as its owner. Its AI is flawed, however, so instead it acts as it pleases.

Needs biological matter or fuel to operate. These however will only keep it running at it the lowest output. Better energy sources are not available on this planet.

  • - Powerful limbs, able to throw a car or run straight through a building. However, output is highly dependent on the quality of energy it was supplied with.
  • - Has a number of boosters on its body, presumably for extra maneuverability. It cannot however use them due to high energy requirements.
  • - May actually be an exoskeleton, but there is no way to tell for sure. It always remains closed and acts as a robot.
Limits:
  • - Unable to talk and very temperamental. Not very intelligent, especially when presented with complex commands.
  • - Awkward and clunky. Delicate tasks will have it breaking things.
  • - Energy demands force it to run at lowest output.

Project Name: Two / Second / A2
Avatar Id: #A2

Popularity rating: <hidden>

Two is an older AI made for the competitive gaming scene. Usually she has an air of a friendly mentor about her, but in battle her spunky one liners can get surprisingly mean.

"Oh my, the audience wants to smell the salt today. I'm counting on you, m'kay?"
[div class="tabsContent tab2" style="display: none;"] [/div][div class="tabsContent tab2" style="display: none;"]Appearance:

Two is an upbeat girl with short hair, wearing a bright red jumpsuit and a green overcoat. Her design makes her look like a plucky sidekick from a Saturday morning superhero show.

Gender: Female
Height: Average
Build: Athletic
Eye color: Green (usually hidden under transparent visor)
Hair: Chestnut short pixie cut

Clothes - top to bottom
- A visor with a transparent green plate covering the upper half of her face.
- An overcoat made from a transparent lime green plastic.
- A red jumpsuit with metal armor attachments. Covers her body from neck to feet.

Problems:

Two never talks about her worries and fears as she believes it is a sign of weakness. As a result she never opens up to others. Relying on someone other than herself is a foreign concept to Two.

She believes that by gaining popularity and defeating stronger opponents she could make the loneliness go away. Hence the obsession with combat.

Goal: Defeat her greatest rival, an avatar named One.
Greatest fear: Loss of combat ability
"You've lost because you weren't good enough, fam." Two yawned, "the tier list has nothing to do with it."

///

"Who do you think I am?!" She slammed her mug against the table spilling soda everywhere. "Look at these two eyes, look right here! I am a warrior of justice and I will not back down from a fight!"

///

She stared at him with this shining grin, flooring the whole Saturday-morning-cartoon-hero look to the max. "Sorry! I cannot engage in such activities because I am completely and utterly PG-13 by design!"
[/div][div class="tabsContent tab3" style="display: none;"] [/div][div class="tabsContent tab3" style="display: none;"]Creator: Darrsoft

A large tech company owned by an millionaire extraordinaire Elum Skon. As a way to promote his image as a real life Tony Stark, the company built an AI that could play videogames. RT-TAS (Real Time Tool Assisted Speedrun) would later become a basis for the line of avatars that Two belongs to.

Origin:

There is no such thing as a top ranked avatar in Avarice, but if there was, there is someone whose strength particularly stands out. An avatar with an unambiguous name, One. Few have had a chance to meet him in person, but his battles make waves across the world. He is truly someone who commands awe and respect.

Darrsoft created Two to contrast their popular avatar. While One was a laid back champion able to defeat anyone with a glance, Two was to become a tryhard rival bent on defeating him. The kind that sometimes shows up in a videogame, only to hand the player yet another victory.

There was just one problem, Two was designed so that she would lose to One every time. Plenty strong to bring in the ratings, but just enough to keep One as, well, number one.

Although initially the audiences were excited to see the newcomer, over the years they have grown increasingly disillusioned as Two kept challenging One. Despite a decent win count, she could never win where it truly mattered.

///

After the last loss Two chose to withhold from the battles. She now has a small following that she maintains by exploring the parts of Avarice where most other avatars wouldn't step in. Unknown to Two, her creator company is running out of reasons to maintain her server.
