Conner watched as everyone headed off. Seemingly following the half orc. "Ballsy move." He wouldn't trust an orc, half or not. They were more known for their brutality and savagery than anything else. He couldn't think of the last time he ran across a sociable one. Then again what about the goblin? Those little boogers can make a real mess pit of things. "Yet it's contraption was carrying a daring."

He really didn't want to follow people out into the swamps. Didn't want to be that kind of busy body. "But no one would look for me there." He muttered with a tilt of his head. Not having anything else to do, he followed slowly in their direction. Staying a few yards back for the entire trip. He didn't go into the camp. Instead he stayed a few yards back. Resting down against a tree. Granted he could hear what's going on. But he was still keeping an eye on what could be trouble.

Feeling her body being shifted, she let out a snort. An eye cracking in the process. The fairy telling everyone about what happened was heard but she didn't move or speak. Although there was some surprise that she was sat down on some furs. Surely one of the humans would want the bed? She was a dragon after all.

LIke a dog crawling on its belly, she scooted herself out of the tent so she was now resting on the ground. Her wings rustled as she curled herself up against the cool dirt then tucked her head on once more against her body. Not saying anything her half-asleep state. The sun would be rising soon and with it, she would be up again. Back in human form.

She didn't like taking people to her camp. It never turns out well for her. She looked to her boar then around the quiet forest. At night the easiest thing to find would be the hardest to kill. "What do you think of this mess?" She asked the boar. It only snorted in return. Plodding along slowly beside her. "Yeah, I don't like it either. I think in the morning I'm heading out." The boar snorted once more. Megir let out a chuckle as she paused and looked back at her beast. "I don't do everything on my own." Well she did but that wasn't the point.

Megir grew still as she watched something. A large armadillo would provide plenty of meat for the group. "Sorry my friend. Thank you for your sacrifice. May you find peace." She whispered. Her footsteps became light as she crept up slowly on the creature. Before it could react she swung her ax down and took off its head. grabbing the thing by the base of it's tail she started back to camp.

Only a few yards out, she noticed something against a tree. Strapping the dead armadillo to her boar, she sent it back to camp. Quietly she moved to get a better view. It was the drunk from town. He had followed them it seemed. "Great." Not sure if this meant trouble or not, she decided to sleep out there as well. He was watching the camp? Then she would watch him. There was no way some stranger would get the drop on them. Unless there was more of them.

Rays of early morning light speckled the ground through the canopy of the trees. Songbirds singing the world awake around them as the evening cicadas end their lullaby. Megir didn't move as the world started to brighten once more with the slow rising of the sun. she stayed quiet in her stop. Arms folded across her chest and one leg pulled up. To anyone, she would look as if she was sleeping. Really, she was watching the stranger. How dare he spy on her camp. Sadly no one in camp would know where she went. Hopefully, they would understand she wasn't there to babysit. Besides, they could take care of themselves. Right now she had more pressing matters.

Since coming to Kaladorei everything had been messed up. From the swamp fight with the hags to the werewolf fight in town. Now there were two different messages about the barrier and a drunk spying on them. None of this was sitting right with her. It all felt off. Not that she knew what to do with it.

Kan

The sound of metal shifting and clanking about filled the air around Kan. He followed the group's tracks after getting supplies and information from the inn they were at the previous day. It didn't hurt that some of the townsfolk were more than happy to let him know which direction they were heading. If the intrepid group were heading north, then he would follow. And hopefully, he would be allowed to join their band of merry adventurers. He stopped walking and took a knee, focusing on the man who was far ahead by a tree and the slight discoloration of green he saw further away. "That must be the she-orc hiding in the trees. But what is that man doing there away from the others?" He thought to himself for a few moments before deciding to go around to approach the orc first. A few people he spoke to told him that she led the group, so Kan would best spend his time talking to her first. As early as it was in the morning, he wasn't stupid enough to think that she wouldn't be awake and alert. So he wasn't going to attempt to sneak up on her if he got an ax to the head.

Kan stood back up, adjusting the large pack he was carrying on his back, and walked around in a large circular path. After changing his position, he marched forward, keeping his hands on the straps to support the weight he was carrying. His armor made enough noise to make his presence known to the orc well before they were within talking range, but Kan was careful enough with his steps not to alert the others. Once he got close enough, he looked up at her from her resting place in the tree. "Excuse me, madam, but are you the one who saved the townsfolk from that nasty werewolf yesterday?" He kept his voice down so only she could hear him, partially wary of the group as a whole. 'Heroes' had attacked him before when attempting conversation with them, and he wasn't about to let it happen again so quickly. And she looked to be hiding, so giving away her position would be rude.

"I'm going to get more firewood."
Oh what's this?
The fox girl's ears twitched. A little white lie perhaps? She was tired, and the fire so warm. As usual though, her curiosity won out over exhaustion. Waiting until Koran was out of sight. She pointed a finger at the fire imperiously. "Don't go out while I'm gone, ok?" She took the merry crackling and happy yellow flame as a sign of acceptance, nodding once before scampering up a tree.

She could have used more magic, though she probably would have just fallen out of the tree if she'd tried at this point. Apart from a simple alteration to mask her scent, she instead opting to remain out of sight high in the tree canopy. It wasn't difficult to move quietly for her, especially not under the watch of the night. She wouldn't be able to see Koran, but the same would go for him. These large ears weren't just for show after all. Ciara lay across a branch, listening to the wolfman talk. The conversation not doing much more than confirming at least two of her suspicions, and letting her cross out another. She had some of the information he needed. That was the important part to her.

Returning to camp quickly, she gave the still burning fire a thumbs up, receiving a a wink in return. At least she imagined that the way the fire flickered and sparked made it look like a wink. Ciara collapsed onto the ground without preamble or ceremony. Curling up into a ball to rest her head on one of her tails, and wrap her arms the other. This was fine, who needed a bed? She had a nice patch of dirt, a hot fire, and a warm soft fluffy pillow. She was out instantly and there was no need to feign sleep when Koran returned only moments after her. It was careless of her, despite not feeling any harmful intent from the man. However trust formed upon paranoia and deceit is frail indeed. If she wanted him to trust her, she needed to show that she trusted him at least enough to not kill her in her sleep.
LoD3mPQ.jpg

The usual dream of fire and screaming visited her that night. She should have known better than to fall asleep staring at the campfire. She could feel the impact as the boy with black hair and blue eyes knocked her to the ground. Feel the blood dripping from arrow tip protruding from his chest. She could see his sad smile and feel the tears well up in her eyes knowing it would be his last.

Ciara woke with a sneeze as a large butterfly decided to alight upon her nose. Her eyes remained stubbornly closed, but somehow a ray of morning light had found its way through the trees to glare annoyingly on her face. "Fine fine, I'll get up." She muttered as she props herself up with an elbow to look blearily around. Looking down she could see her tail had turned mostly black, as had her hair. She knew without needing to check that her ears would match, and her would have gone blue. It had become a reflex at this point after all. Sighing, she wipes the tears from her cheeks with the back of her hand and looks around to see if Koran was awake and if so, what he was doing, or if he had decided to leave her there.

Lithe watched Megir go off to hunt. He knew she'd be fine but he'd been hoping to relax and talk about old and new times together. The woman was always keeping busy.

"Aww" Lithe said softly, his mind becoming distracted as he was set down by the Golem before taking a seat near Truri as he looked thoughtful "Brimstone hmm?" he mulled over what the Alchemist had told him as he looked at his small vial of glitterdust before his eyes snapped up at the mention of a witch from Elre "Unfortunate that I missed her. I love witches, such fascinating magic. Rituals and potions and the like" he waved his hands "Perhaps the magic wasn't intended to make her reveal herself? Maybe it was an unintended side effect? I once knew a guy who was actually allergic to healing magic, made him break out in hives"

"Oh, is that what is in this?" Lithe asked shaking the small vial after Taneras had returned to their subject once again, a man after his own heart this one was. The ability to shift subjects easily was always better than attempting to stay on task, at least it was with Lithe "No idea how I made this, but I know I did. Nice to know the ingredients though" Asteri zipping around the area caught his eye and he watched her with curiosity. He'd seen various magical creatures in his time, but this was very fascinating. Fairies like Elre weren't common but he'd had time to study them, Asteri was something new...and fluffy.

She was starting to wake. Her form already shifted back to human. As her eyes opened she noticed a pair of feet. The feet of the crone was there. She placed a finger to her lips. The dragon opened her mouth to speak but no noise came out. Then before she could move the dragon was gone. The crone started walking off. However, as she left, a pounce fell from the crone's belt.

Koran slept well enough. It was strange to be sleeping with a fae stranger nearby, but at the same time, he couldn't think of a reason not to. He doubted that she meant him any harm, and he definitely doubted that she was capable of killing him in his sleep.

He had woken up shortly before Ciara, laying in his bedroll and thinking over his next move. Despite the brutish tactics that he employed in battle, he wasn't without his share of intelligence. It couldn't be coincidence that so many mages had congregated in an unimportant town near the barrier. Surely they would be involved in the effort to strengthen it. Perhaps it was time to ask Ciara some direct questions about her intentions.

He looked over at her as she sat up, noticing how dark her hair had gotten. Sitting up, he started to fold up his bedroll and held out his extra water canteen to Ciara. "Your hair changed color... Is that an appearance choice or does something cause it?"

1614891209414.pngNate took some time to process what his friend had just told them all. Remarks from the goblin, then from the young alchemist, and he thought about it all. Indeed, if the witch had an ability to come in and out of a place unnoticed, she could have certainly taken that dragon with them. He nodded at Taneras, giving a reassuring smile to the stuttering young man.

" You are right ! If the witch wanted that dragon away she could have taken her. This creature that follows you, it is a carbuncle right ? Quite a peculiar companion !"

As things went on, Taneras told them he could cook, which earned him a cheer from Nate and a tap on his back.

" Now that's the spirit ! I like you already ! Cooking from an alchemist, only great food can come from someone who handles magic ingredients all day long !"

Nate was cheerful all night long, speaking up and acting friendly with everyone, even Lithe, as if they had never had any different. Would they find Ale, Nate would make sure everyone had some until they went to sleep, and if not, he would complain a few times about it. During the evening Elre alternated between talking with the group and playing around with Asteri, chasing and acting as the prey, flying around to escape her. A few times he flew right past Nate's head, trying to get the carbuncle to bump into him.

The next morning, Nate woke up quite early. If they had ale, he would feel a little headache, and if not well, he'd feel all the better. He woke up with the sun, the dragon was still there as he walked out and found a quiet place close enough to the camp to sit down and meditate. Elre was sleeping with Asteri, still.

Nate would meditate for an hour or so, and when he came back to the camp with the intent to wake up everyone, he realized the dragon was gone, and found only a small pouch on the floor. He walked in, holding the found item in one hand. He would sit at the same table than the last day, taking a deep breath.

" Guys, the dragon's gone and I found this. Wake up you all"

He would say out loud, hoping this was enough. He didn't look to be in a hurry, the missing dragon wasn't such a big deal to him, this kind of creature was fickle, free minded, and one would not be easy to keep in one place, especially after such events. Elre woke up with Nate's voice and immediately, as he flew to his friend, he gasped and pointed at the pouch as if it was the devil.

" I reckon that ! It looks just like what that Witch had !"

Nate's reaction to this was to let go of the pouch as if he was holding something dirty. He stared at it intensely, thoughtful. He asked himself if there was any magic in it, a witch wouldn't just drop her pouch so close to a house full of magicians, alchemists and warriors, right ?

" Guys, wake up ?"

As Taneras blinked up at the sky wearily, the familiar weight of Asteri on his chest. After staying in that position for some time, he heard Nathadeus suddenly call out for them all to wake up. Taneras groaned slightly, and ushered off a very grumpy Asteri off his chest. He stood up, groaning as his back ached. He really needed to get a better bedroll... Taneras shook his head, trying to dispel the cobwebs of sleep from his mind, and stretched, before seeing what Nathadeus was holding. And then the words registered. He glanced quickly at the tent, then at what Nathadeus was holding. Taneras then trotted over quickly, practically snatching the bag out of the wizard's hands and unceremoniously dumping its contents on the ground.

A few coins fell out, two small garnets, and even one ruby- admittedly, it wasn't very.. clear, but rather cloudy. Taneras wrinkled his nose. The crone obviously had low quality tastes. But the real trasure was the rather strange shimmering stone, larger than the smaller gems. Tanah hefted it in his hand- he could feel that it was magical, but nothing else. How did Tanah know it was magical? He was an alchemist! While he may not be capable of casting those fancy spells the others could do, he still knew the basics of magic!

After that little internal rant, Tanah's attention returned to the coins. ...Wait. Coins. Coins could help tell where the witch had been- and maybe where she'd gone. He made as if to pick up the coins, before realizing he had the stone still in his hand. Tanah blinked, before looking at Nathadeus a little bit guiltily. "A-ah... m-m-m-y.. b-b-bad-d-d..." After an awkward silence, Tanah hurredly put the stone back in Nathadeus' hand, before returning to the coins.

Taneras wasn't an expert in coinage, unfortunately. He knew of SOME variations, but not nearly enough about the intricacies of how each town made their coins. But maybe...

Taneras stopped his train of thought to swat at Asteri, who was sneakily trying to steal the cloudy ruby. "Q-quit it, Aster! We might need these!" To which Aster responded with a pout. But Tanah paid no mind, as he began returning to planning. Maybe... maybe the innkeeper could know more. Maybe the witch had bought something from there? Or maybe, since he dealt with so many coins, he could give them an idea where it came from...

Tanah, you idiot! We're not trying to find the crone, we're trying to watch the goblin and head to a crystal! Tanah rubbed his temple with his free finger. Joy. Just great. This would have to be a side project. His eyes flicked back to the tent; this witch surely must be powerful, to have slipped in and out without them knowing. Either that, or they didn't set up a good enough guard... Tanah felt a flash of guilt eat at him. He was one of the first ones to go to sleep after finishing his meal. He'd mixed the carrots with the armidillo, what little salt he had left, and some sugar and other spices as well, to make a soup that was overall good tasting, in his opinion. ...Graaaanted, he may have mixed in some sweet vitriol and some gypsum into the soup, but it tasted good, nethertheless! But yet, there really wasn't a watch set....

Tanah shook his head. Yet another reason to head back to the village. Suddenly, in the corner of his eye, he noticed Asteri chomping away at the ruby. ...And she had already eaten half of it. "ASTERI! Bad! You know better than to do that, silly!" As he reached for the carbuncle, she chirred, and flew away, prize in her teeth. Tanah just stared helplessly at her as she settled on a high tree limb, smug look on her face. After spending a moment to comprehend what just happened, Tanah sighed, and turned to face the rest of the group. "W-w-w-well... I-I don't think we c-c-can do anything about th-th-this now..." He turned to face the goblin. "I-I still think th-that a su-su-su... that getting sup-p-plies at the town is still a good idea."Carbuncle 2.png

...But one question bugged him. Why? Why take the dragon? Who, and what was this witch? What did she really want? How was it that things just so happened to occur around her- or that she so happened to be around these occurances? Tanah closed his eyes in thought. Everything was related to the barrier, somehow. The werewolf wasn't supposed to be past the barrier. The witch had made the dragon speak about the barrier. And the goblin just so happened to want a journey to 'fix' the barrier. Something was pushing hard to break down the barrier. Memories of the werewolf's attack on the village flashed through Tanah's brain.

...No. Not if he could help it. If the barrier fell, what was to prevent more deaths like what the werewolf caused? Taneras glanced around at everyone else, noticing that mostly everyone else was still just waking up. He really wasn't paying attention to the others, however. He was too lost in his own thoughts, as usual. And maybe giving a simmering glare at Asteri now and then, who by this point almost finished her prize.

Megir's Camp / Megir, Tarenas, Lithe / Waking up!

After eating dinner and a few hours of fixing Kindle, Thorinn fell asleep in front of the campfire while snoring loudly. Occasionally he would mention something about Master Steelboner or killing goblins in his sleep. He immediately woke up when Nate announced the dragon's disappearance. Rubbing his eyes to make sure what he was seeing was correct. The dragon did disappear! Furthermore, the fairy said it had something to do with the mentioned witch!

"Kindle, did you see anything about this?" Thorinn shifted his attention to the golem and asked it, Kindle didn't need any sleep so it should know about what was happening. The golem seemed to be thinking about it for a few moment before communicating in what could be described as caveman's language, golem edition. Most people might only though of it as some sort of weird dance but Thorinn seemed to understand what Kindle was trying to say.

"So an old woman came and make the dragon vanish? And you did nothing because...? Error??? Tch... damn witch trying to outsmart me!" The goblin kicked a rock away in frustration before approaching the items apparently left behind by the culprit.

"Give it to me. I'm an artificier, identifying properties on mysterious items like this is my specialty." He motioned at Nate to hand the pouch over while pulling down his goggles.

"You can go to the village if you want, human, but don't take too much time! Each hours spent dilly dallying might means other comp- I mean other people die from the downed barrier!" He replied at Taneras' suggestion.

An ear twitched as the sound of metal rang out. An odd sound to be heard in this area. Her eyes still focused on the man. Then the most unexpected thing happened. A cluster of lights engulfed him and he was gone. Leaving an armored fellow asking if she was the one who saved the town. "I didn't save anything." Megir grunted, turning her full attention to the man addressing her. "Simply tried to stop it from attacking anyone else." From her recollection, the mages and golem had done more than she did.

Dropping to the ground, Megir was now face to face with the stranger. "Now what business do you have?" Her hand never far from the hilt of her short sword. She was sure by now everyone was waking. Her boar would be there with food but she was still out. The drunk vanished but now here was this armored lunk who seemed to be looking for her. If she went back to camp, she would be leading danger right to them.

Megir waited for an answer with a sigh that seemed to show more frustration than anything. Hopefully, he wouldn't be an enemy. She could get back and check on things. Talk to her old friend. Maybe get back on her quest. At the very least tent to her boar and report what happened with the man who followed them out. "Surely your not looking for little old me."

The raven haired Ciara tries for a smile when she notices Koran watching her, but with the boy's face fresh in her mind the expression falters for a moment before she manages to make it look convincingly upbeat. She put her hand to her eyes again, trying to make it look like she was simply rubbing the sleep from them, rather than checking if she was still crying. Gratefully she accepted the water and took a drink before daring to attempt to speak. When she finally did however her voice was a clear and enchanting as ever, though she would have preferred if his question was about anything else at the moment. The boy flashed in her mind's eye once more before she reigned her thoughts and put them back under control.

"Yes." She answered simply before smiling for real this time. "Technically both of those theories are correct. Long ago a boy told me that my hair was too beautiful in the sunlight, and it hurt his eyes to look at. I liked this boy, and had grown to value his opinions. So, I told him that while the sun shines bright, my hair would remain as beautiful as his own, and turned it the same black of his own. I still remember how he blushed and started sulking when I laughed at him for it. Some time later he again confronted me, complaining that he couldn't have proper conversations with me, because he kept getting lost in my eyes. So, I told him if he had so much trouble meeting my gaze, he could simply meet his own, and I made my eyes reflect his own blue. I spent many a day with that boy, and I started maintaining the habit with other humans as well. Eventually it became a reflex."

She offers the water back, "Half expected you to be gone when I got up. I would offer to make you something to eat, but I confess I've grown accustomed to sleeping in towns, and left rather abruptly. I didn't take the time to restock on food. I know where some nice fruit is, but you take me more as a bacon or sausage sorta man."

A brilliant flash of light caught the corner of Kan's eye, and when he turned just for a moment to look at where it had come from, the man who was once by the tree was gone. He turned his attention back to the orc woman as she was now in front of him. "No point in having walked around the way I did..." He muttered to himself. He hated wasting time like that. Then again, who could've known someone would vanish like that? "Nevertheless," he replied when she mentioned she didn't save anything and was trying to stop it from attacking other people.

"I wouldn't call you little," he eyed her up and down a moment, giving a small chuckle, "but yes. My business is with you. You're heading towards the weakened point in the barrier, and I'm here to offer my assistance. I even brought gifts. Consider it a peace offering." He took off his large pack and set it down in front of her, "cheese, bread, dried meats, rope, and many other useful things a band of adventurers might need before getting to the next town. I take it you and the others are traveling on foot, so I spared no expense. I know time can be wasted when a group stops to hunt for food."

"But allow me to introduce myself first. I am Kan, and it is a pleasure to meet you. Would you have me by your side on your journey?"

Lithe sat up at Nate's voice and looked around with mild confusion before shaking his head "That witch is certainly powerful if none of us woke up as she magicked away a dragon" he ran a hand through his hair and flopped back onto the ground where he'd been sleeping and turned his head to look at Asteri eating the ruby and grinned. Precious gems were a cheap price to pay for a floof. Unfortunately he didn't have any.

He sat back up "Well...wait...where is Megir?" he asked as he slowly stood up before spotting Gorge "Ah, never mind, she's fine. If he's here, then there is no problem with her" he did feel a little down that she hadn't joined them the previous night. He knew that she could handle herself well enough and he was a ware that she was a bit of a loner.

"Resupplying is going to be necessary, depending on how long we are going to be traveling to the next town. Pack for any occasion and plan for the worst!" he grinned "In the meantime, I believe there is a river nearby, I need to bathe after yesterday's events, and my clothes probably need a good washing as well" he sniffed himself "Don't hear much about bathing and cleaning up in the adventuring stories, I assume that it is implied but I still think it could go for a mention or two"

Koran felt himself conflicted as he listened to the kitsune, watching the remnants of her sadness gradually fade. He couldn't deny that he was finding himself more and more curious about her. He had so many questions he wanted to ask, which wasn't like him. People were boring and predictable- this fae woman was not. The fact that she was still here with him was a mystery in and of itself, and part of him didn't want to do or say anything to frighten her away.

But even as he was thinking that she shouldn't be valuing a human boy's opinion so highly or worrying about what other people thought about her, he found himself challenged by his own principles. If you don't care what she thinks then own it, Koran. He knew he was right. Getting attached would be a mistake.

"Well, I'm not human," he replied, "So you don't have to change your appearance for me. And fruit would be just fine- I've had my fill of protein."

He doubted that she needed to be reminded of the events of the night before- or maybe she was keeping herself in denial about the fact that he did in fact eat several of his victims. Then again, her curiosity of him seemed to outweigh any moral outrage she might have about what he did in town. And then there was the unfulfilled part of his bargain that they made. Sitting down on his bedroll, he pulled off his cloak so that his collar was once again visible to her.

"You said you wanted to see the collar," he said, then gave a humorous smirk, "Did you change your mind or are you worried that I bite?"

1615249366341.pngStill feeling a bit hangover, Nate was lightly upset by Taneras's first reaction to just snatch the pouch away from him. He stared at the shy man with wide, surprised eyes as he dumped it all on the floor before he gave the important gem back to him. With a slightly amused face, he chuckled and nodded as he grabbed the gem.

" It's alright, curiosity is a good state of mind" He said reassuringly to Taneras who apologized.

He stared at the gem now in his hand, feeling some magic coming from it. It gave him a weird feeling, though he couldn't really place it or understand, for the magic was too faint. He would need some time with the stone in order to really grasp what this magic was about, but this time he didn't have. He handed the gem to the goblin when he asked for it, in a very natural motion. Nate didn't accept stereotypes about species like goblins, of course a lot of them would be sneaky jerks but this artificier obviously was much more civilized, there was no way he would just run off with the gem.

" Have it your way my friend, there is definitely something about it but I can't quite grasp what it is yet. Surely you have the widest knowledge of enchantments and charms here"

Nate spoke with the same, friendly voice as ever, and pointed a finger to the golem when he spoke about Thorin's knowledge. Elre was still in stationary flight, but eventually he landed on the table, thoughtful and anxious. He remembered the sight of that Crone, she had a very oppressive and worrying presence, and the way no one else seemed to care, back at the inn, meant she had quite the strong magic going on with herself. In the meanwhile Asteri was gnawing at a ruby, said ruby that come from the crone's pouch, which had Nate laugh a little bit.

" One's treasure is nothing but food to someone else. On the other side, this ruby could have fed a family for weeks, yet it was surely kept by a witch out of sheer greed.... Isn't that a funny lesson ?" He spoke out loud, but really was just thinking about it for himself.

Nate's attention snapped back to Tanneras then as he said he would still go to town for supplies. He stood up and stretched his arms. " I will come with you, Neras, if you don't mind. I'd love to hear the story of your meeting with this cute carbuncle. "

Neras, Nate had already given a nickname to the alchemist. Elre seemed to mind Nate's decision, feeling too lazy for a stroll back to town, yet they had a habit to stick together most of the time, especially since so many dangerous creatures were around. He flew from the table to Nate's shoulder, eyes on Asteri.

" I'll come too, of course ! What would you do if something else happened without my healing powers ?! You humans can't do much when it's about charms... And worse, if it was a woman, Nate would lose inst-"

Elre was shut down as Nate poked him almost off his shoulder, clicking his tongue. " Tsk, now, now ! He's right, though, it's safer to stay in pairs at the very least... This area seems to be filled with magic and dangers" He added with a smile toward Tannah. " You two can wait for the she orc.. Megir was it ? And we should meet again here later on ?" Nate said for Thorin and Lithe obviously, while Elre pouted on his shoulder.

"I will come with you, Neras, if you don't mind. I'd love to hear the story of your meeting with this cute carbuncle." That sudden declaration made Tanah jump. He stared at Nathadeus, his face paling slightly. He glanced around at everyone else, in a look of something akin to desperation. Megir was nowhere to be found. Lithe was taking a bath, and the goblin- Thorrinn? Yes, Thorrin, was examining the stone- Tanah didn't know how he felt like that. Maybe he could use that as an excuse to back out of the... Unfortunately for him, Asteri trilled, and flew down from her branch up on high to land on the redheaded wizard's head. She stayed there for a moment, making sure to finish off the rest of the ruby, before flitting over to Taneras and wrapping herself around his neck and shoulders. At that, Taneras sighed. Aster had already deemed that Nate was coming with them, it seemed. The poor alchemist stuttered out: "S-s-s-sure... B-b-but the st-st-st-sto.. the t-tale isn't a-a-as exciting a-as you think-k it is-is."

Well, great. Talking. To a stranger. Juuust what he was good at. Making himself a fool, that's what. Tanah looked down, shuffled his feet a bit, before trudging over to gather his supplies together- not that there was much out. A few minutes later, Tanah came trudging out of the camp, Nathadeus at his side, and Asteri riding on his shoulders. As he walked along, he glanced from time to time at the taller wizard. He had no idea how to start. A few minutes passed of this awkward silence, until Tanah finally blurted out: "A-a-a-aster and I met w-w-wh-when I was a-an app-app-... stud-d-dent to M-master Adil. H-he was wonder-r-ring what wa-as happen- happening to his st-stock of cr-crystals and r-rare metals. Wh-when he was g-g-g-g... aw-away to restock, I sn-sn-sn-sn... l-looked around and saw her ea-eating some of them g-gems. Wh-when I first ap-approached her, sh-she blinded m-me, and r-ran-n away."

After that, Tanah was silent for a moment, playing with his new bracelet, seemingly gathering his courage for another run. A couple of minutes later, his next words were blindingly fast, and strangely high pitched: "So-I-had-the-idea-to-make-a-s-spiderweb-trap-that-would-keep-her-in-place-while-I-figured-out-what-she-was-After-I-captured-her-I-actually-fed-her-gems-to-keep-her-happy-and-not-s-squirm-around-too-much-and-after-I..." At that, Tanah had to take a deep breath, squeaking out after he realized what a bind he put himself in. His face reddened, and he looked down, dragging his feet for a bit on the swampy ground. "I, uh, al-also took the ch-chance to, er, dr-dr-dr-dr-... to-draw-her." After saying that, he tripped on a root, stumbling, but managing to catch himself relatively easily before he fell. His face was beet red at this mistake, though, and he stayed silent as he silently berated himself. The expectant silence was too much, however, and he eventually continued on.Carbuncle 2.png

"S-so As-aster kept on c-coming back, and I-I kept on f-feeding her small g-gems and th-the occasional c-coin. E-eventually, sh-she started staying ne-ea-ear me, and Ma-ma-master Adil was suprised to f-find that the cu-cul-cu... C-c-c-carbuncle was li-living with us now. He-he let her st-stay, on the c-condition that she he-helped him sniff out va-various precious metals and gems." After finishing that, Tanah shuffled around for a bit, before belatedly saying, "A-and that's how A-asteri a-a-and I came to b-be together."

Thankfully, due to Tanah's rather procrastinated and delayed explanation, the town was soon in sight shortly afterwards. He looked a bit sideways at Nathadeus, before coughing slightly, reddening, before finally asking, "D-d-d'you think you c-could ask the innkeeper wh-where these co-coins came from?" At that, he handed Nathadeus the coins from the crone's pouch, before hesitantly continuing on: "A-and maybe s-s-see if the w-w-witch bought anything?" He shifted from foot to foot for a moment, before finally saying: "I, uhm, h-have to g-g-get some reagents and st-stuff...." At that, he turned and practically ran away, heading down a street.

..Asteri, on the other hand, was having none of this business-like stuff. She flew off of her person's shoulders, though he called back at her: "Meet us back in the town square, Aster!" (She chirped back her understanding.) She then flew at Elre, and promptly bumped him with her head, before flying off, waiting expectantly. When he didn't move, she repeated the process. She very obviously wanted to play tag, and the small man was going to play with her, no matter what!

Tanah, meanwhile, after he made his way down the street, reached in his bag, and pulled out a parchment of paper and some charcoal, before changing his steps to start heading to the graveyard. He had some business to do before he bought some reagents, and this took precedence over such reagents. He had people to meet.

"Yes, yes! Give me!" Thorinn said enthusiastly as Nate handed him over the gem. He then proceed to rub it over with a clean fabric and examined it closely with his enchanted goggles.

"Go ahead and buy supplies, I will wait for the orc here. Ehehehe." After he said that the goblin shifted his attention back to his work and seemed to be absorbed in his examination. Kindle seemed to also took an interest and got itself as close as possible to the gem without interferring with Thorinn.

Megir gave a light laugh at the joke. He seemed to really want to help. Strange how this all came about. Did everyone know what they were up to? then again, from what she understood, a few messages have been sent out. She couldn't help but wonder how many had been given a message. "Your welcome to come back to my camp. We will talk it over with the others about you joining." Running a hand through her hair she started back in that direction. "And the name is Megir."

Speckles of fragmented light danced along the ground as the wind pushed the leafy canopies about. The rustling of leaves echoing all about them as they started to head to camp. "Since you know a bit about me, I would like to hear some about you. Where are you from? Why do you want to join us?" She still didn't know where she stood, let alone there others. Megir wondered how everyone would take this. How Gorge would take this. At least he came with supplies so that would save them a trip.

"Just so you know, I don't think everyone at camp is going to try and help." She added, golden eyes looking over the armor. A knight maybe? Or a paladin? She hadn't seen one of them in a long while. There were some tough decisions that need to be made soon. No one seemed to have the answers or fully understand what this was all about. "Camp is just past those trees. Don't expect a warm welcome."

Kan followed Megir, putting the pack back on and carrying it. "I journeyed here from the West. I am the only one left of my previous party. More specifically, I am joining you. I found it a better idea to keep close company with a shield-sister than an eclectic band of magicians and rogues. No offense. It's just that I haven't had the best experiences so far in finding a new group." He walked partially by her side, noticing her golden eyes observing him. "A paladin without purpose is just a delusional spell-sword. That's why I wish to join. No point in wasting time when I can help a good cause and protect those in need."

"Thanks for the heads-up. But I won't lose any sleep over it. You can't waste your life trying to please everyone."
He walked into the camp with Megir, seeing only two others, one of them being a goblin. He stopped his hand just before it went to grab for his sword. He moved his hand to adjust instead the strap that was keeping his pack secure so that he could remove it with ease. "Good morning." He spoke up to them, his gaze remaining on the odd little goblin. Vivid images and the sounds of horrible laughter flashed through his mind. He wasn't fond of the little critters as a whole, but the goblin wasn't one of the more savage green variants Kan was used to encountering, from what he could tell. "I am Kan. I'm here to join Megir, and subsequently the rest of your group, on your quest." He introduced himself to the two.

Kan removed his pack and set it down more towards the center of the camp, "I bring supplies as a gesture of good faith. Help yourselves and take whatever you may need."

Lithe waved after the others as they left for supplies and it seemed that the Goblin was busy doing his thing. Lithe stretched and prepared to set off for his bathing when he spotted to figures coming into the camp and smiled as the man introduced himself. Lithe hopped over and took the man's hand in his own shaking it with energy and warmth "Pleased to meet you Kan. Nice armor. I'd stick around a bit longer, but I'm just heading out to get washed up, speaking of which, Megir, you wouldn't happen to be able to point me towards a clean water source would you?" he didn't particularly smell bad but he felt grimy from sweat and sleeping on the ground.

He stepped over to the half-orc and bumped his shoulder against hers in a friendly manner "Also, it is good to see that you are alright. We woke up to find that the dragon had been stolen away by a witch in the night, I was worried the same had happened to you as well"

"Oh I do want to examine it, but there has been no need to rush. You have agreed to let me travel with you for the moment, as well as to letting me examine the collar. Besides I asked my fill of questions last night, and you looked rather exhausted."

Ciara watched him sit down and take off his shirt as he asked about their bargain. Taking his actions as an unspoken consent to do so, she stands up and pads barefoot over to sit on her knees beside him and give the magical device a closer look. She was within easy reach of the man, and probably at a distance that most would consider too close, but she remained in easy view, without being directly in Koran's face. She didn't smell as strongly as she had before. The scents of vanilla and cinnamon more muted now, with an even fainter natural smell layered beneath it.

Ciara focused on the collar with her magical senses, the inhuman vibrant violet hue spreading out from the center of her eyes like a drop of dye in water. After determining it was safe to touch, or what defensive magics she needed to employ to do so, she gingerly reaches out with both hands to feel the device, to feel the magic in it, and look for carvings or designs that may not be visible with her sight alone.

"Do you dislike this look? She asks while she works. Her voice almost directly in his ear. A sound like wind chimes in a cool breeze on a hot summer afternoon. "As I said, its more a reflex now, whether or not anyone is around. Are their colors you would prefer, perhaps? Hmmm, a redhead with green eyes perhaps, or a nice auburn, if you want a more natural look. I could give myself more of a tan, maybe a dusting of freckles across my nose? I think it best to avoid my natural appearance if we are attempting to remain at all inconspicuous."

I was entirely possible she was just teasing him with these questions now, a grin on her face and a twinkle in her eye. At the same time however her tone was suspiciously sincere. After all, it wasn't any real trouble to change such things. If it would make him more comfortable, or if it made him like her more, then why not?

Koran found her question amusing. Typical woman to fret over details like the color of her hair. Sure, he knew that some men had 'a thing' for one type or another, but frankly- when a woman was as beautiful as Ciara, no change to the color of her hair was going to change the overall level of attraction. Not that Koran was going to put it to her in those terms, or the more cruder ones that also crossed his mind.

"If your goal is to draw less attention, you're probably better off choosing a darker color. Although you're pretty much guaranteed to turn heads no matter what color you pick."

He wasn't uncomfortable with Ciara's proximity- not until she reached out to touch the collar. He hadn't been prepared for that, and reflexively jerked back ever so slightly before he caught himself and reluctantly permitted her contact. "Don't try to take off," he warned, trying his best to keep the growl out of his tone.

The collar was quite intricate both in physical design and magical power. Upon close inspection, the tight device was clearly digging into his skin, rubbing and blistering it raw beneath the metal- a silver alloy of some kind. There were several powerful enchantments on the device, ones that allowed for scrying, teleportation links, telepathy, magic resistance, size change and an arcane lock. All of the enchantments were contained to the collar itself, and didn't seem to have any influence on Koran at all.
