Heyhey,

my boyfriend and a good friend of mine had the idea to make a (small) game. They wanted to start with a simple platform game and work their way up from there. However both of them are not that creative when it comes to background stories and character development and that is when I came into the picture. So now I have created a world (and history) of where this game will take place. I simply wanted to share it with you guys to see if you think it has potential (the story itself, not the game) and whether there are any suggestions, critics, tips or I don't know. I would love to hear it if you have anything to say related to this world/background. Yes, I even created a map with my fantastic skills in paint... Please don't judge me on my skills in using paint, that is why I am making the story behind the game and not the game itself :P

Love, Darkius

2056; Mankind had almost ran out of all sources they had known until now and technology was either not advanced enough to deal with the problems or too farfetched for the common people. The bits of oil and coal that were still left were sold at a sky rocking high price, leaving most people without heating or transport. A group of seven, thoroughly selected, adventurous scientists and engineers had been selected by the world government to find a new source of energy that would solve the problem and would give the engineers time to come up with better products to replace the cars and busses that were used. It had taken the seven scientists and engineers quite some time, but after 17 years they had finally found a new source. It was a dark matter, a very dark energy and the scientists called it Tenebrae Navitas, which quickly shortened by the engineers and known as Tenav. The scientist and engineers knew this was not something one could just ran around with and they warned the world government, but the government only saw the solution against the rebelling population of Earth. In contradiction to what always had been thought, Tenav was easily to come by and within a matter of a few month it had replaced all the sources known to mankind. In its vast form it could be used the same way as coal, while its liquid from had the same characteristics as oil. It was a blessing for the World, for Mankind and most of all for the Government. The Seven however knew that their discovery was as much as a curse as it was considered a blessing, though they had no idea in what way. Locked up in a secluded laboratory they tested the dark matter, trying to find something to counter the dark energy that came from it. No longer supported by the Government it was hard for the Seven, but still they kept loyal and dedicated to their work. The laboratory became their home as they hardly ever left it, bringing over their families and eventually starting their own village, completely out of the reach of the Government at its dangerous dark energy.

2167; The warning that was so quickly casted aside by the government slowly started to take its victims. The Tenav seemed to corrupt the people that worked most with it the earliest, turning them into angry drunks or cheating bastards, but that was not the end of it. The Tenav had already spread all over the world before this change in behaviour had been noticed as it had been casted aside as not being important. It only became a problem when the crime rates in towns started to increase to an unknown level. People and animals became corrupted by the matter that once had been their blessing. It didn’t matter whether it were males, females or even children all fell victim to the spreading of the matter. This increase of chaos, anger and lust set free something that was far more dangerous than the Tenav itself. It set free the source of it all, the poltergeist, the spirits, the monsters and the demons...

2341; It had all started with innocent poltergeists that were awakened all over the world. However quickly small demons started to gather, whispering to humans to kill those that did them wrong, telling the most loyal people that it was not wrong to once to give in to the lust and longing. Nobody was certain of his life anymore, but that was not even the biggest problem. Politicians, Presidents, Royalties had also not been spared the curse of the Tenav. Treaties, agreements and covenants were broken as countries took up their weapons for no apparent reasons towards other countries.

2395; All of the fights and wars peaked when nuclear weapons were taken at hand, once again. First only as a warning, a threat but 15 February 2395 they were used. No one knew which government had started and it didn’t matter as it wiped out all existence, mankind, animals, demons and poltergeists alike. All was gone, except for one little town that was until now unknown to most people. They suddenly were the only people on Earth. The reason of their survival? The Lapis, a solution the Seven had started working on, perfected by their great-great-great grandkids.

2400, 5 years A.TN. (After Tenebrae Navitas); The little town had grown out bigger and bigger. Home to mostly scientists and engineers, its look at the world was practical and technical. It was decided that technology got the upper hand over trivial things, just as feelings which had gotten them in such a big mess. The continents that were once known B.TN. (Before Tenebrae Navitas) had disappeared off the surface of the planet. The only land there was now, was one big island as large as the former Europe, for as far as mankind knew. They called this island, their new country and world, Elaria. Scientists and engineers hardly sit still definitely when there is so much to discover, so much to learn around them. Under the protection of smaller Lapis they went out to discover the world around them, but only dared to go so far. Nature was wild and unkept and most animals still corrupted by the few luring demons that had survived the nuclear blast. It were difficult and dangerous missions, but they were necessary to make humanity prosper once again.

2516, 121 years A.TN.; One small town had grown out to seven small towns, each with their own Lapis. The towns each represent one of the original seven scientists that had been sent out for the new source. They were connected with each other through one simple road that was suitable for every kind of transport and the people were free to go where they went for as long as the sun was up. Once the sun was down the gates to each town were closed and would stay closed no matter what until the sun would rise the next day. Just as the towns, the Lapis were connected to each other and created the Defensa, a shield, that covered all seven towns. Within the Defensa the people were save and didn’t need to worry about the demons that were still lurking outside of it in the wilderness. Mankind lived happily, slowly forgetting about the Blast 121 years ago, that had become part of their history. Nothing more than a story, a legend. Hierarchy was based on intellect, those who were not so bright became defenders and guards of the town. They were send out into the wilderness, only during day time though, to search for possibilities to make the towns grow larger and see if the corruption had settled down yet. The average people took care of things like growing food, making houses, offering entertainment or worked for the high-intellectuals. The high intellectuals were divided into two main groups, the Engineers and the Scientists. Both groups however worked peacefully together, the only difference being their work, though one group could not develop without the help of the other group. From these two groups seven were chosen to rule the town, when crime occurred, the average had problems or decisions had to be made. Once one of the seven died, a new person was chosen to replace the former Ruler. Peaceful, effective and thought through, that were the words best to describe the world.

3483, 1088 years A.TN.; The seven towns had grown into wealthy and peaceful cities. More and more of the, presumed, island was covered by mankind. It seemed like this kind of life worked, until the Massacre. The seven Gerenti Lapis, protectors of the Lapis, were killed in cold blood, an event that shocked all humanity. That was not even the worse fact, the Lapisof the most northern city, Lyba, had been broken. The Defensa was weakened and small innocent poltergeist quickly made themselves known thorough the city. Scared for what would follow the history books were opened to see what the faith had been of their ancestors. The residents of Lyba flee to the other six cities to be protected by the Defensa. The Rulers of each city were at loss of what to do with their precious Gerenti Lapisgone. What made these Gerenti Lapisso special? Their skills. The blood and gene that ran through their veins had once been part of the Seven and they somehow seemed to be unaffected by the Tenav. On top of that, each had a lingering specialty for a weapon, their Necto Arma. Even without training they could instantly unlock the information in their brain on how to use this weapon. At least the very basics was immediately accessible the very moment they touched their Necto Arma. The more difficult moves would need training or desperate situations. The Gerenti Lapiswere the only ones safe beyond the shield and able to resist the Tenav and even kill the demons. With none of these Gerenti Lapisleft, mankind was doomed to be defeated again, since it would only take time until the second Lapis would be broken. The Rulers were devastated. The citizen scared. The world was certain to be fallen in ruins like 1088 years ago. All until Meri Lybar stepped forward, claiming to be the twin of one of the killed Gerenti Lapis and therefore possessing the same skills. The Rulers decided, against their scientifically and engineering behaviour, to skip the testing of this theory and send her to find out what her Necto Arma was. Once this was cleared out she would be send to Lyba to see what could be saved of the Lapis and search for the shards that had been left throughout the city and the wilderness.<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2014_12/57a8c0f66609e_ElariaMap.png.9e3554cd18e9418cdae51e1bf519fb31.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="35934" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2014_12/57a8c0f66609e_ElariaMap.png.9e3554cd18e9418cdae51e1bf519fb31.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>
