Nation Building Echoes from the Void (An Interstellar Empire Roleplay)

Sorry about not posting, currently traveling. Hope to have something up tomorrow sometime.

Empire/Nation Name: The Ascendancy

Empire/Nation Location: 6

Technological Tier: 2 – Interstellar

Population: 70,167,243,679

Government: The Ascendancy was a nation born out of revolution and the government they created was one aimed at solving the injustices and inadequacies of the past. As such they have created a benevolent, meritocratic dictatorship.

As part of the government health program all new-borns have genetic samples taken and analysed. This is primarily to allow early intervention for genetic conditions however, genetic indicators of unusually high intelligence are also noted and such children are flagged for subtle monitoring in their early years.

Furthermore, parents are only legally allowed to have children after having been issued with a license after passing tests to show they are capable of raising a child, are citizens of upright character and they have demonstrated a willingness to instil in the child from a young age the virtues of selflessness, public service and hard work whilst discouraging greed and selfishness. Any children born of parents without a license are removed and raised in state run facilities or given at birth to those with a license but who, for whatever reason, are on the state adoption waiting list.

All children attend compulsory state schooling and pre schooling, aimed at providing a solid education and subtly instilling the morality of the Ascendancy. At age 10 all children undergo mandatory state testing designed to measure aptitude and help tailor their future education. Those children with high intelligence genetic flags receive special attention during these tests. There is no such thing as pass or fail, no low or high marks only streaming and it is an important element of the culture of the Ascendancy that the street cleaner is not looked down upon by the surgeon as both have a necessary role to play in the smooth running of society. But, those with such genetic flags who show potential aptitude for high level government positions are then entered into a special program. All those children who do not enter this program continue in mainstream education, attending classes or schools picked to foster their skills. This can be anything from manual labour through to theoretical physics and the military.

With a population as large as the Ascendancy’s, and with so few children being eligible for this program, it is not unusual for a school to go for decades without having a child enter the program. Those who do are taken from their families and attend specialist hot housing schools where the skills of government and pure morality are further engrained. They are closely monitored for moral lapses and those who show too much of an inclination towards fostering their own interests rather than the states are returned to main stream education.

At the end of the intensive course, at the age of 24, they face the final battery of exams. Those who show the highest ability at governing and demonstrate the highest morality are moved into upper middle governmental positions and from there promoted on merit, perhaps even to the highest office. No one who did not go through the intensive course could ever be allowed to pass beyond the upper middle of the civil service. Those who demonstrate reduced ability to govern but have the highest morality are placed into the Inquisition. Others on the course either go into slightly more junior governmental positions or enter the military as officers. Indeed, most of the leaders in the Ascendancy military are graduates of this intensive course who showed more military leanings than governmental.

Throughout the Ascendancy the right to hold property is severely limited. All housing is state owned as is all major industry. Most people only own their chattel goods. However, those in government are allowed to have no personal property or wealth at all. Nor are they allowed to have children. This removes the incentive to improve your own position or that of your family at the expense of everyone else. However, whilst they own nothing everything they need will be provided for them.

The leader, entitled High Executive, is appointed from amongst the senior cabinet positions upon the death, retirement or removal of the previous leader. He is chosen by popular vote of those in senior governmental and military positions as well as members of the public who have passed special voting eligibility tests centred on morality and intelligence. The result is subject to approval by the Inquisition. Once in power the High Executive wields near absolute power though he delegates many of his functions to his cabinet. Two checks exist on the High Executive. The first are the courts, who are able to hold the High Executive to legal and constitutional account though their effectiveness is limited by the High Executive’s ability to readily change the law. The second check is the Inquisition.

The Inquisition is made up almost entirely of those who demonstrated the highest morality in the intensive course with a few members of the general public who have demonstrated extraordinary ability and moral purity through their deeds. They can hold no wealth, property or power nor may they have families. Their sole purpose is to monitor those in positions of power and influence for moral lapses or dangerous conflicts of interest, and remove them from power should their souls be found wanting. In the event that the Inquisition ever goes rogue, not that it ever has, it could be reined in by a combined effort of the military and the courts.

The voice of the common man tends to be represented by the planetary special ministers, who as well as being regional governors are also responsible for voicing their people’s concerns. There are also a large number of public forums where the populace can make their voice heard by the government and actively corresponding with the civil service is both encouraged and taken seriously.

Economic System

The nation could be described as operating on communism light. A certain level of housing and a decent standard of living is guaranteed for all citizens. If you can’t make it there on your own the state will provide it. However, some men are wealthier than others. These men are almost always employees of the state and are paid a higher wage to incentivise and reward achievement, particularly for those who went through the more normal education system. These men live more comfortable lives but no one is allowed to live in total luxury and the super-rich do not exist. The gap between the wealthiest and the poorest is kept tightly under control. In order to make the wealthier more accepting of what might appear to be a low return on their achievements when compared against other nations, ethics and morality classes are mandatory in the conventional education system as well as the intensive one, and these classes are designed to aid the smooth running of society. Though those in the conventional education system are not as exposed to it as those in the intensive system. Furthermore, to support this moral unity private education and home schooling are both outlawed.

Private business is permitted but there is a cap on the revenue and size that such businesses are allowed to reach, above which they will be taxed exceptionally heavily. As such the private sector is small scale and tends to be limited to things such as restaurants, small clothes companies and luxury goods. Anything which could be termed “industry” is 100% state owned. Profits from state owned business get ploughed back into the state, helping to fund health care, education, housing, military investment and so on

The first priority of the government which directs the economy is that the ascendancy be self-sustaining, it requires no imports to function but this has also meant that exports are comparatively low as they can’t neglect anything in order to focus on over production for exports. Furthermore, their diplomatic and geographic positions means exports are doubly difficult. When they do however, export goods they tend to be military or infrastructure exports.

Economic Prosperity

The economy is healthy and sound, but does not soar to any majestic heights. By having a near entirely state controlled economy and a degree of economic isolation they can better stand the shocks of galactic financial meltdowns but they are also less buoyed by galactic financial success. Furthermore they cannot currently compete against private industry mega corporations in the limited export markets that they have access to. They further handicap themselves by refusing to export their most up to date arms and inventions, keeping the best for themselves. They will only ship out their equipment which has been surpassed by at least two other waves of innovation and which they can counter, meaning the only people interested in buying their goods are those with a small budget or who are lagging behind the technological norm.

However, their economic model means everyone has what they need, though not always quite what they dream of. Furthermore there is zero long term unemployment. Every person may attempt to go into the job of their choosing in the normal manner, thoug h their education is designed to mould both their abilities and desires to best serve the state and play to their natural ability. If however, you are unsuccessful or long term unemployed for some other reason the state will find a job for you. Even single parents are expected to work, all be it on reduced hours, with the state helping out with good childcare arrangements. As part of this, and for historic reasons, they have a disproportionately large military and an even greater military industrial complex to fuel it. It should be noted that the Ascendancy is a strong military innovator and as part of this they have a very strong line in robotics research and manufacturing. These robots were first used as weapons of war to make up for their comparatively small population. Then they started being used for hard labour. A debate currently going on inside the senior levels of government is whether or not a greater emphasis should be put on the production of domestic and non-military robots for export, given their edge in this field.

Race Name: Delvonian. Other races are present but not in notable numbers.

Race Information: The delvonian is a pale skinned, bipedal humanoid. Their average height is seven feet though they range from five to nine feet in height. Their skin is usually a milky off white colour though it can vary from an ethereal near translucent quality where hints of the muscles below can be seen, to a grit like grey. In terms of proportions, when compared to a human, they seem to have longer arms, legs and necks. Their fingers and toes seems particularly long. On each hand they have three normal fingers in the middle and a thumb equivalent on each side, rather than a little finger. On their feet they have a similar arrangement but just like humans their thumb equivalents have not evolved to be as dexterous.

Their heads are slightly elongated at the back to make room for a larger brain than a human, meanwhile their nose, mouth and jaw are elongated to almost horse like proportions. However, it gently tapers to a hard, beak like point. Their respiratory system is similar to a human, breathing through their mouth and nose and their sense of smell and taste operates along similar lines though delvonian’s have two tongues, one affixed to the roof of their mouth and other to its floor. These tongues can extend to great length and are a hang over from when their ancestors had to lick out insects from the insides of trees and other similar things. They can still be used to pick up and eat food today though doing so is considered rude and only done amongst people you are really comfortable with.

They have three eyes, one facing forward like a human and the other two on the sides, like a bird giving them both focus and a wide field of view. These eyes are structured similarly to a human eye but only have a cornea and pupil and are larger than human eyes. The colours of the cornea can be of almost any colour imaginable.

They do not have body hair or feathers, they do however, have protruding translucent bone and cartilage like arrangements that emerge from their head like human hair, with each strand being about half the width of an average human finger. These bone like arrangements are hollow and laced with tiny tunnels just underneath a very thin surface. These tubes are filled with what is usually a clear liquid however, emotional responses as well as conscious decisions can flood dyes into this liquid which actually makes the near bone like material change colour. Usually these colours are very bold and will change several times through the day.

Their language uses similar vowel and constant sounds to English, simply because of a similar wind pipe structure to humans and a dose of luck however, it seems harsher and common speech has a rhythm to it, like a simple musical beat. They do however, have a raspy back of the throat sound used in some words, not found in most human languages. Their alphabet is 35 characters long but has less linguistic confusion, such as a silent e, as a result. These characters are written as geometric shapes and much like English every word is made up entirely of alphabet characters. There are no characters which can be used to convey broader concepts or whole words in just one shape. Of course this is not true for the language of maths which demands short hand for concepts such as “equals” or “divide by”

Average Lifespan: Without medical intervention most will live until 100. However, current medical technology has extended this to 200 and only the last ten years tend to be marked be sever old age symptoms such as mental degradation, loss of motor skills and so on.

Ascension (Capitol): This world holds approximately thirty billion people and is a manufacturing power house. Even before colonisation the surface would have made a poor agricultural prospect but after the environmental catastrophes inflicted on this world by the Delvonian Empire only the hardiest of plants could survive on the surface and conventional farming became impossible. However, under sea agriculture is still possible and has now been heavily invested in. The planet was one about fifty percent sea, but this has been reduced to thirty percent as the old masters tried to reduce the amount of surface water to more easily access the worlds mineral wealth. The landscape is now hard and barren. High winds sweep across the more open areas of the world and until recently acid rain, poison fogs, smog and other man made nightmares of weather were commonplace. Only recently has the government been able to get these deadly weathers under control by directly chemically altering the atmosphere. Terraforming technologies are now being applied to their capitol world to try and restore some life and industry is being made to be somewhat cleaner. But their efforts will only have limited success as the government will not allow any environmental concerns to impact industrial output.

Instead the government has improved the quality of life for its citizens by improving their habitats. Most of the citizenry live in, what from the outside, look like huge, monolithic high rises or deep, burrowing subterranean complexes. Cold, functional, hardy and oppressive to look at. But the government has been at pains to renovate the insides. Form will always serve function to an ascendant. But, large artificial parks and recreated out door spaces, including forests, beaches and snow covered hills inside carefully maintained habitats with holographic skies, serve as vital returns to nature from a population that had been made to live in a toxic, metropolitan hellscape until comparatively recently in their history. Indeed, it’s almost impossible to walk down a main street without going past trees, flowers and water features. This makes it somewhat startling when you step outside and are suddenly confronted with boiled away surface water and roving radiation storms.

The factories of this world are as titanic as ever, stretching for mile after mile, as far as the eye can see whilst the mines keep digging with seemingly no end in sight for this worlds mineral wealth. Similarly her surface is littered by imposing fortresses and bunkers designed to stand against even orbital bombardments and return fire as well, they had to fight two major conflicts on the surface of this world, and they are prepared for a third. Even their seemingly pleasant internal habitats are built for combat. What are pleasant sky walkways today become elevated firing positions tomorrow, picturesque out door environments become killing fields, that nice government run restaurant has got three feet thick walls for a reason. Wipe away the flowers and put in a few sandbags and the whole planet becomes a sprawling defensive position.

This is compounded by her many moons, which are much like the core planet only without any kind of atmosphere at all. Again, these tend to be quite mineral rich and so the same mixture of sealed habitats, factories and forts are present, all be it in smaller numbers. But fortified moons with anti orbital guns make sustained planetary bombardments difficult.

Delvonia: Delvonia is the genetic home world of the Delvonian people, and was once the capitol of the Delvonian Empire. Her cites are as elegant and beautiful as ever, whilst he countryside is clean and earth like, though marked by primarily purple instead of green foliage. Even her villages and farms are beautiful. Holding about twenty billion people she has more skyscrapers and fewer underground habitats than the capitol. But none of them are as cold and functional on the outside as those on Ascension. They are all masterworks of elegant pure white metal, latticed with gold, crystal and gleaming glass. Even the windows of a normal person’s habitat tend to be made of stained glass

Economically this world exists more on artisanal crafts and agriculture than pure industry and relies upon imports of metals and the like from Ascenison.

Recently Ascendancy statues, art and pieces of propaganda have started appearing all over the place. Meanwhile, fortresses are being dug at key locations. The Ascendancy sweated blood for this world, they will not give it up now.

Ironia: A world about two thirds the size of earth, but otherwise with an earth like atmosphere and levels of surface water the surface of Ironia is littered with lush, decidedly alien looking jungles with moving plants that seem to border on semi sentient. Some of the larger trees appear to be predatory and entrap smaller trees in snake like vines before breaking them apart with strong roots and passing the chunks below the surface to some form of digestive system. Mammalian animal life is rare and most creatures seem to be forms of reptile that either leap from tree to tree or fly. Very little walks on the ground here as the underbrush is littered with carnivorous plants waiting for something to fall into their sticky leaves, there to be slowly digested alive.

This bizarre eco system was made possible by the abundance of strange minerals and chemicals under her surface and whilst not on a par with the eye watering amounts beneath Ascension Ironia contains rarer minerals. The colony here, now about five billion strong, started out life as a scientific outpost. However, mines and factories got added as time went by and much of the local wildlife was considered a delicacy back on Delvonia. As such the world underwent an economic boom under the old Empire and became a centre of academic and scientific thought. These factories and such a high concentration of skills led to this world having one of the Empire’s primary ship yards put in orbit around it, whilst much of her military and domestic scientific innovation took place in her labs. This is a tradition that continue today.

The world is only lightly fortified, the local plant life making mega construction difficult, but most military thinkers agree that the very plant life which makes fort construction difficult would make life hell for an invading army.

Vespasia: With a population of about fifteen billion, three billion of which are spread across her two moons, Vespasia is part colony part propaganda project. She was already undergoing initial terraforming when the Ascendancy took this world over, a project that has now been completed. She has been moulded to mimic the ideal conditions of Delvonia and serves as a world neatly balanced between industry, agriculture, science and culture. Her buildings are all imposing examples of new ascendant architecture. They lack the decadence of Delvonian architecture, and borrow more from the stark functionality found on Ascension. But subtle, minimalist beauty has now been added to the design, making the buildings almost inspiring to look upon, they project strength, authority and confidence. These are building people would be proud to say they lived in.

This world is where most new immigrants are settled so the greatest degree of racial variety is found here. This world is fortified, but not to the degree of Ascension, few places are.

Ship Class: Revenge

Type of Ship: Battleship

Primary Armaments: 1x very heavy dual linked rail gun turret. 6x top mounted heavy dual linked rail gun turrets, one of which is rear facing, with three below, one of which is rear facing. 6x forward facing torpedo tubes, 2x medium dual linked rail gun turrets. 2 heavy laser banks, mounted for broadside fire only.

Secondary Armaments: An array of point defence and anti-fighter turrets.

Defences: Multi layered Kellersteel armour and several harmonic shield generators and kinetic dampener fields as well as advanced sensor baffling and electronic warfare modules.

Power plant: Internal Space Fold Manipulation Field containing multiple nuclear reactions.

FTL Engine: Fuelled by the ship’s power plant the AFTLD 155 ignores the ships mass and can propel the vessel at the same speed as the rest of the fleet.

Crew Size: 9000

Miscellaneous: The Revenge class very heavy turret allows her surprising range and power, even for a ship of her size, though this does come at the expense of some underside armaments.

Ship Class: Stalwart

Type of Ship: Cruiser

Primary Armaments: 1x heavy top mounted dual linked rail gun turret 7x top mounted medium dual linked rail gun turrets, with two rear facing. With four below. 2x forward facing torpedo tubes. 2x medium laser banks mounted for broadside fire. 7x top mounted light dual linked rail guns, one rear facing, and a mirror arrangement below.

Crew Size: 4000

Miscellaneous: This vessel is the workhorse of the fleet. She does not possess any great guns but, for her size, she possess guns in number, allowing her to overwhelm some foes with sheer volume of fire. The Stalwart is a heavily retrofitted design from the time of bloody trials. Her age accounts for her out of date guns but new methods of power generation have allowed more power to go to her engines than previously. However, rather than utilising this for speed the Stalwart has instead kept the same top speed but is now encased in armour that would have been impossible at the time she first rolled off of the production line. She is built for staying power which is appropriate as most battle doctrines state that escort ships should be removed first. Having the enemy’s first target stand for longer than anticipated would throw most strategies.

Ship Class: Lancer

Type of Ship: Corvette

Primary Armaments: 4x top mounted medium dual linked rail gun turrets, with a mirror arrangement below. 2x forward facing torpedo tubes. 2x light laser banks mounted for broadside fire. 3x top mounted light dual linked rail guns, one rear facing, and a mirror arrangement below.

Crew Size: 3000

Miscellaneous: Like the Stalwart this vessel was designed during the time of bloody trials, when the technology was more primitive and times were exceptionally harsh. As such she was made on a very tight budget and, much like her big sister, better times mean she has been retrofitted with more up to date systems and unlike the Stalwart the Lancer was improved with speed and more anti-fighter systems, making her perfect for reconnaissance missions and close escort duty. These ships have also now been fitted with extended heat synchs allowing for her to go dark to enemy sensors for prolonged periods.

Ship Class: ADF 147-4 Drone Fighter

Size:4.0

Type of Ship: Drone Fighter

Role: Fighter

Primary Armaments: Forward mounted single light rail gun and quad linked heavy repeater laser canons. 10x ship to ship missiles.

Secondary Armaments: N/A

Defences: Multi layered Kellersteel armour and a single harmonic shield generator as well as sensor baffling and modules

Power plant: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a modified high grade military electric motor.

FTL Engine: N/A

Crew Size: N/A

Miscellaneous: This is an automated drone fighter, without the need for a cockpit or life support systems it can be smaller than most fighters. Furthermore, it is capable of lightning fast reflex actions and so can out react most living pilots, giving it a key edge. These vessels are also used from ground bases by the army as fighter cover.

Ship Class: Talon

Size:6.0

Type of Ship: Fighter Bomber

Role: Fighter Bomber

Primary Armaments: Forward mounted single light rail gun and quad linked heavy repeater laser canons. An identical arrangement is also in a tail mounted turret. 20x ship to ship missiles. 60x ship to ground (or large target) missiles all of which can be dropped as bombs with percussion detonators should complex electronic systems fail.

Secondary Armaments: N/A

Defences: Multi layered Kellersteel armour and a single harmonic shield generator as well as sensor baffling and modules

Power plant: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a modified high grade military electric motor.

FTL Engine: N/A

Crew Size: 4

Miscellaneous: This fighter bomber can be piloted by droid or living pilot. She is not as manoeuvrable as her drone counterpart but she is tougher and carries much more firepower. Often she will be used for runs on hard targets once the drones have secured the skies. These ships have also been made in large numbers and given to the army as part of their air support.

1 High Fleet

5 Standard Fleets

2 Stealth Squadrons

8 Internal Squadrons

5 Battleships

10 Cruisers

15 Corvettes

10 Corvettes

5 Cruisers

10 Corvettes

8 battleships

15 Cruisers

20 Corvettes

Guards Army: Each Guards Army is made up entirely of living soldiers, no robots in sight. This serves as something of a safety mechanism to prevent over reliance on droids. But the Guards armies are more than that. They have the best equipment, the best training and the most experience. All members of a Guards army are veterans who have undergone special selection and training before being admitted into the Guards. With multiple armoured divisions and 100% mechanized infantry. These men are the best the Ascendancy has to offer. This army is also capable of combat aerial insertion.

Shock Army: With a mixture of droids and actual life forms shock armies may not have quite the experience and talent of a Guards army but they have all the same equipment, with a high proportion of armoured units and 100% mechanized infantry the shock armies make up the back bone of any offensive campaign. This army is also capable of combat aerial insertion.

Standard Army: Standard armies make up the majority of the Ascendancy military and again, are 100% mechanized. However, they do not have the same proportion of armoured vehicles. These troops are primarily used in defence though they can serve any role. With a high proportion of droids these armies can be deployed en masse and at a level that would not necessarily be sustainable with organic armies. This army is not capable of combat aerial insertion and must be landed more conventionally.

20 Guards Armies

50 Shock Armies

250 Standard Armies (due to high droid ratios these can most readily be produced quickly in the event of war)

Troop Type: Ascendancy Soldier

Role: Multi Role, often in command positions.

Armaments: Situation and role specific, however, all will be equipped with basic laser side arms.

Defences: Kellersteel battle armour as well as a suite of sensory enhancers such as night vision and heat vision so they can be as perceptive as the droids.

Crew: N/A

Miscellaneous: These soldiers can fill almost any position from foot soldier to pilot, crew man to engineer, storm trooper to spotter, they can do it all. However, with the exception of the Guards, actual people tend to hold the roles of senior NCOs and up or fulfil other functions robots either cannot or should not do.

Weapon Type: Just as with all infantry various different soldiers will fulfil different roles with different weapons from fully automatic support lasers to mortars, anti-tank rockets to surface to air missile, from snipers to fractal shotguns and everything in-between. The standard infantry weapon is however the Medium Repeater Carbine or MRC.

Role: Depending on which weapon they are carrying any role a foot soldier could carry out,

Ammunition: See above.

Miscellaneous: N/A

Troop Type: AR 147-6

Role: Multi Role Combat Droid

Armaments: Situation and role specific, however, all will be equipped with basic laser side arms.

Defences: Most AR 74-6 robots are encased in Kellersteel, a durable material like body armour. This can deflect most stray projectiles or poorly aimed shots or even direct hits from some weapons. Though it should be noted that as they have no sense of pain or fear they can keep on moving after sustaining injuries that would kill a mortal creature.

Engine: Remote Rechargeable Power Cells and personalised locomotion generator.

Crew: N/A

Miscellaneous: This battle robot has roughly the same dimensions as a Delvonian, though perhaps slightly smaller. This is to allow them to easily use any machines or tools designed for living soldiers and vice versa. Depending on their AI package these robots can fill almost any position from foot soldier to pilot, crew man to engineer, storm trooper to spotter. They can do it all except hold any position of command above platoon level, even in emergencies.

Weapon Type: Just as with all infantry various different robots will fulfil different roles with different weapons from fully automatic support lasers to mortars, anti-tank rockets to surface to air missile, from snipers to fractal shotguns and everything in-between. The standard infantry weapon is however the Medium Repeater Carbine or MRC.

Role: Depending on which weapon they are carrying any role a foot soldier could carry out,

Ammunition: See above.

Miscellaneous: N/A

Vehicle Type: ABW 148-4

Role: The vehicle itself serves as a basis on which to mount specialised equipment, giving it its distinct role.

Armaments:

Variant 1: 1X Anti high altitude rail gun, capable of striking targets in high orbit. 1x Fully automatic support laser mounted in a turret behind the driver for anti-infantry fighting. (Usually aimed at enemy capitol ships attempting to bombard the planet, or incoming troop transports this is an anti large target variant)

Variant 2: 1x dual linked anti mid altitude rail gun with quad linked anti low altitude heavy laser repeaters. 1x Fully automatic support laser mounted in a turret behind the driver for anti-infantry fighting. (This variant makes up the vast majority of the Ascendancy mobile anti air guns, capable of striking at bombers and fighter in mid orbit where they may think they were safe as well as targets much closer to the ground. The lasers in particular are effective at striking close, fast moving targets such as enemy fighters on strafing runs. These weapons can also be turned on ground forces should the need arise.

Variant 3: 1x Long Range Artillery Gun. 1x Fully automatic support laser mounted in a turret behind the driver for anti-infantry fighting. (This vehicle makes up the self-propelled artillery of the Ascendancy. Able to keep up with the rest of the troops she grants long range fire power to the ground forces and is capable of firing a wide array of shells as the need demands.

Variant 4: 1x Hull Mounted Anti-Armour Rail gun. 1x fully automatic laser mounted in a turret towards the rear of the vehicle. 1x fully automatic support laser mounted in a turret behind the driver. (This variant serve as the self-propelled anti-tank gun for the Ascendancy, a slightly old fashioned notion but one they have brought back to great effect. Due to the gun being mounted directly to the hull and capable of only relatively minor aim adjustments without moving the whole vehicle, it is very mechanically simple. This allows them to be made easily and at a low cost. Furthermore, by mounting directly to the hull a bigger gun can be put on a lighter frame allowing it to punch well above its weight. Technological innovations allowing charges to be mounted to rail gun rounds mean that whilst these guns were built for anti-armour they can also serve in an anti-infantry and anti-emplacement role.)

Variant 5: 1x Electronic Warfare Dome. 1x fully automatic support laser mounted in a turret behind the driver. (This variant serves as combined sensor, baffler and counter baffler device. As a baffler it helps scramble enemy guidance systems, provide false data to enemy missiles and provide confusing or misleading imagery to spy drones and the like. It is the same technology used on the Ascendancy capitol ships, modified for ground warfare.

Variant 6: 1x portable shield generator 1x fully automatic support laser mounted in a turret behind the driver. (This variant exists solely to provide a mobile shield platform to infantry and armour alike. However, she is poor in direct combat and will often not be at the forefront of fighting. She can produce a shield whilst moving however, that shield is prone to be slightly weaker and flicker. Whilst stationary she operates at full capacity.

Defenses: All variants are encased in reinforced Kellersteel, giving them equivalent protection to one of the more durable types of light tank. The only exception is Variant 4 which has even more armour, and a bigger engine, granting it the durability of a medium tank.

Engine: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a medium grade military electric motor.

Crew: Varies depending on role. All models require a gunner / radio operator, commander and driver at the very least.

Miscellaneous: N/A

Vehicle Type: ABW 162-17

Role: Mechanised Infantry Troop Transport

Armaments: Ix light multi role rail gun in a turret towards the back of the vehicle. 1x turret mounted fully automatic support laser and 1 hull mounted fully automatic support laser at the front of the vehicle.

Defenses: Reinforced Kellersteel with a layer as spatial armour, giving them equivalent protection to one of the more durable types of light tank, smoke and chaff launchers.

Engine: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a medium grade military electric motor.

Crew: 1 driver, 1 turret gunner, 1 radio operator/ hull laser gunner, 1 commander plus room for 8 passengers and equipment.

Miscellaneous: This vehicle is the primary troop transport in the Ascendancy army, capable of delivering men right into battle and then supporting them once they have unloaded. This is readily the most common ground vehicle in the Ascendancy. They often operate in pairs as the infantry works in squads of 16.

Vehicle Type: ABW 159-4

Role: Light Tank

Armaments: Ix light multi role rail gun in a turret towards the back of the vehicle. 1x turret mounted fully automatic support laser and 1 hull mounted fully automatic support laser at the front of the vehicle.

Defenses: Reinforced Keller steel with a layer as spatial armour, smoke and chaff launchers.

Engine: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a medium grade military electric motor.

Crew: Gunner, Commander, Driver and radio operator/ hull laser gunner

Miscellaneous: With roughly the same firepower and durability as the ABW 162-17 troop transport, but being much lighter, this is an exceptionally fast and nimble vehicle. Chiefly used for reconnaissance this vehicle rarely sees full pitched battles but will occasionally be called upon to be used as a rapid strike force against soft targets.

Vehicle Type: ABW 161-12

Role: Medium Tank

Armaments: 1x turret mounted Medium Rail gun, 1x turret mounted fully automatic support laser and 1 hull mounted fully automatic support laser at the front of the vehicle.

Defenses: Double thick reinforced Kellersteal with a layer as spatial armour and anti-chemical round coating. As well as smoke and chaff launchers.

Engine: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a high grade military electric motor.

Crew: Gunner, Commander, Driver and radio operator/ hull laser gunner

Miscellaneous: This is the medium tank of the Ascendancy and its armoured workhorse. Built as a jack of all trades this tank can do almost anything though it’s not necessarily the best at any one job. Interestingly it is almost as fast as the light tank as, whilst heavier, it has a substantially improved motor.

Vehicle Type: ABW 168-8

Role: Heavy Tank

Armaments: 1x turret mounted Heavy Rail gun, 1x turret mounted fully automatic support laser and 1 hull mounted fully automatic support laser at the front of the vehicle as well as another one at the rear.

Defences: Triple thick reinforced Kellersteal with a layer as spatial armour and anti-chemical round coating. As well as smoke and chaff launchers.

Engine: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a modified high grade military electric motor.

Crew: Gunner, Commander, Driver, rear laser gunner / main gunner assistant and a radio operator/ hull laser gunner

Miscellaneous: The heavy tanks is just that, heavy. This rolling wall of metal was designed to resist not only most anti-armour weapons but also close air support attack runs and indirect fire. Her engine, whilst more powerful than the medium tank, is not so much more powerful as to allow this thing to reach the same speeds but she is not as slow as you may think. The heavy tank was made to fight some of the toughest enemy positions as well as out shoot and out endure enemy main battle tanks. Whilst the Medium battle tank is a jack of all trades and able to hold it’s own, the heavy battle tank is a purpose built tank killer.

Vehicle Type: ABW 171-2

Role: Super Heavy Tank

Armaments: 1x turret mounted Super Heavy Rail gun, 1x turret mounted fully automatic support laser and 1 hull mounted fully automatic support laser at the front of the vehicle as well as another one at the rear and one in each side. 1x forward facing, hull mounted flame thrower. 1x quad linked heavy laser repeaters mounted in a mini dome atop the main turret. 2x Heavy siege mortars mounted behind the turret. These are sunk down into the tank and chamber loaded. The mouth of the weapon is flush with the hull and other than when firing the mouth of the weapon is covered in auto retracting armour.

Defences: Quintiple thick reinforced Kellersteal with multiple layers of spatial armour and anti-chemical round coating. As well as smoke and chaff launchers.

Engine: Remote Rechargeable power cells and a super heavy military electric motor.

Crew: Gunner, Commander, Driver, rear laser gunner / main gunner assistant, mortar gunner, anti-aircraft gunner, all-purpose assistant, two side laser gunners and a radio operator/ hull laser gunner.

Miscellaneous: Aptly nicknamed the moving bunker this behemoth is the herald of doom, or at least it should be. It moves slightly slower than the heavy tank but is almost unstoppable in it’s movement. Whilst the heavy tank was built to be a tank killer this beast was built as a bunker and fort killer, mere tanks should take advantage of their ability to run away. Her armour is modified from space ships, as is her main gun, her siege mortars grant her impressive short range indirect power and though she is tough enough to resist most fire she still has a low altitude anti-aircraft gun, just in case. However, these tanks are rare and specialised. They are only used by shock and Guards armies and even then, only when the situation calls for it.

The Ascendancy is what now stands where the Delvonian Empire once did and as such much of their history, their entire language and even elements of art and culture have been inherited from their onetime masters. However, there has been a strong drive for a cultural revolution, to cast off the old and forge themselves anew, something backed by the populace at large. As part of this they now refer to themselves as having the “ascendant” culture and society.

Moral Values: After the glorious revolution, the harrowing and the bloody trials this society has grown up dedicated to one thing, the national good. Occasionally known as the greater good or the good of the people everything is aimed at the betterment of the greater whole. Occasionally this means individuals have to suffer or small wrongs go un-righted but the net, long term trend is a better, more prosperous and more secure life for all. Indeed, to act selfishly or for the betterment of your family alone is not merely looked down upon but is almost a crime. Certainly many of the things you might do to further that goal are crimes. As part of this the standard set of core moral teaching still applies, such as prohibitions against theft, murder, violence, perjury and so on. But everything fits within service to the whole.

Religion: Simply put they have no religion, they are aware of the ancient religions of their people but these are now of only historical interest. No one believes it any more. It has been disregarded as mere superstition.

Culture: The Ascendancy is currently undergoing a cultural revolution, actively trying to cast off the ways of their old masters and make something new for themselves. Old music, old books, old films, old art and so on, whilst not outlawed has seen a massive fall in popularity and those who indulge in it too much are seen as slightly suspect. A new cultural identity is even now being forged. Currently, much of it is an evolved form of state led propaganda. This is particularly true of public works, architecture, and statues where a great many of the artists are employed directly by the state. Even works of fiction, grand musical productions, films and plays are being commissioned directly by the government. Its presence is so total that many cultural contributors have been influenced to the degree they are now starting to produce work on similar themes without government commission. Still though, not every cultural output is propaganda and so long as it does not frustrate national unity the government is open minded.

What is becoming apparent however, is that these are a hardy people, slow to forget the grudges of the past, united in adversity and suffering and willing to submit hardships today for the sake of tomorrow, prone to grand gestures, language and thought and utterly convinced that they are right with a hatred of that against which they rebelled.

Social Hierarchy: The starting point for the ascendancy is that all men are equal a sewage worker is just a good and worthy a man as the head of state, they prize the content of a man’s soul more than his intellectual ability and so long as he serves the nation as best he can then he is an equal to any politician or general. Indeed there are no exclusive clubs, no social elite. At various key events the top rung of the administration will sit amongst the most common of men and eat the same meals. No activity is actually or implicitly bared to any on the basis of class or employment.

There is one way to be thrown down to the bottom of society however, to become almost unmentionable, and that is to commit a crime whilst being motivated by selfishness. Such is their contempt of that vice. As for authority, generals, politicians, judges and so on, the people are deferential. They trust and obey these men because they believe in their virtue and their capability and they know that their leaders can and will be gotten rid of if they fail in these regards. Even the head of state is subject to the people’s inquisition.

The Glorious Revolution (First year of the Ascension)

Before the Ascendancy there was the Delvonian Empire. Ruled, from Delvonia itself by the Portegrate family, who had been Emperors for 13 successive generations. Once the Empire had been truly mighty, its ships could blot out the sky, it’s soldiers shake the earth, it’s wealth and splendour were the stuff of legend. But that was long ago. Since then it had grown fat and decadent, ruled over by increasingly vein and incompetent Emperors with sycophants and flatterers as ministers and advisors. They all laboured under one great delusion, that the Empire was simply too large to fail. True it may have been too large to fail in a single generation but it had already begun its decline. Worse still naysayers, those who saw the truth of the situation, were politically unpopular and so unable to access the high offices where they may have been able to do something about it.

During this time there were several colonies in the system known as Cornelia minor, named in honour of a long dead Delvonian princess. These worlds were hard places, mineral rich but harsh and unappealing. The largest settlement was on Cornelia 4 where under sea agriculture was possible, though soil quality on the surface meant that conventional farming was so inefficient as to be not worth the effort. Still though, these worlds were important. The provided essential resources to the rest of the Empire and particularly it’s military. Furthermore, several large scale private industrial concerns had placed key factories on these worlds in order to be close to the mines and shorten their supply chains. However, despite their importance these worlds were relatively fresh settlements on the fringe of the Empire and were thus considered to be of low status and worth as were all those who colonists and workers who actually had the misfortune to live there. There was little to no civic investment in the worlds. All the crown and companies cared about were the mines and factories, nothing else mattered. They were neglected, they grew angry and discontented.

The first acts of violence were not directed at the crown or done in the name of revolution and independence. Rather they were union problems. Local law had been heavily devolved to regional governors and these governors were usually in the pockets of the large corporate players in the area. Laws against trades unions were not uncommon in industrialised areas. But despite the law the workers still unionised and took strike action to protest their pay and conditions. The response was harsh. Private security firms backed by local law enforcement went about trying to crush the unions, usually through violent means. Many men were arrested, imprisoned indefinitely, others were killed in the streets and in their homes. In the short term this was effective. The strikes ended through sheer fear and the men went back to work under even worse conditions. But in the long term this was self-defeating. Hard core trades unionist met in secret and liaised with other radical elements. Over the coming years a paramilitary wing of the unionists came to be and violence erupted once more.

Spurred on by gifted speakers and with discontent still rife strikes erupted once more a mere five years later. However, when the harsh reprisals came private security and law enforcements were alarmed to find the unionists were not only bolder, but some of them were armed and exceptionally violent. Things only got worse as escalation led to escalation. More police were shipped in from out of system with more tools and less legal restrictions. In response senior policemen were murdered in their homes, factory executives brought out and beaten in the streets. Total curfews were the introduced and the whole planet was put under house arrest but such sanctions were unenforceable and protest only grew. Food and drink was then withdrawn from all places, only the police and those who submitted to their custody were allowed to eat. But this just lead to mass raids on police stations, looting food and burning the stations to the ground. Control of the world, and then the system, were lost. This had gone beyond law enforcement, it required military intervention.

But whilst the Empire was slow to respond and unwilling to send a task force to the Cornelia system as it would confirm that they had lost control, the locals were digging in. Turning the factories to their own purposes they made weapons and fortifications, knowing reprisals would come eventually. Key to their plan were the great capitol ship rail guns that were being made in one of the local factories, to be linked up with hulls on other worlds. The rebels, for it was now an open uprising, lacked the spaceships to mount these guns on. Instead they used them like anti-aircraft guns, capable of picking off even heavy cruisers. They lacked the training to use them well but they did build them so they were not totally ignorant. Eventually a carrier battle group was deployed to the system to restore order. The Empire believed that resistance would be scattered and light. Instead, it was constant and fierce. The first Imperial landings were designed for spectacle, aimed to cripple moral more than actually be effective. Against ill prepared and irresolute men it would have done the trick. But they ended up inserting right on top of the rebel’s anti-aircraft guns. The Empire did not so much rain drop ships on the enemy as it rained the twisted wrecks of drop ships on the enemy.

This colossal blunder by the Empire was followed by another blunder, Imperial intelligence failed to properly assess the range of the rebel anti-aircraft guns and gave the green light for the capitol ships to go into low orbit and bombard the enemy into submission. This was not an ideal solution due to the potential damage to corporate property but the admiral felt he was running out of options. He sent cruisers down to conduct targeted strikes only for them to be made the target of the impressive rebel rail guns. They attempted to knock the guns out with counter fire but the guns had been dug into the earth and encased in bunkers stronger than cruiser armour. Meaning the cruisers lost the firefight even though they landed more shots on target. This was a colossal humiliation for the Empire and a boon to the rebels. Other, nearby systems were inspired by their example and unrest and rebellion began to spread. The leader of the battle group in Cornelia was recalled, but the fleet remained. Lacking cruisers, but still in possession of larger ships, they hung out of range of the guns on the ground and awaited reinforcements and new leadership.

During this period of naval confusion and inactivity the rebels smuggled saboteurs, spies and agent provocateurs off world to nearby systems, to stoke the fires of rebellion even more. More importantly spies were able to infiltrate the Ironian ship yards, based in the Ironia system which was sliding towards revolt itself. These shipyards made cruisers, some of which were to be sent to the embattled fleet in Cornelia. Rebel spies, assisted by the men who made these great ships, were able to insert various pieces of command override software into the ships core computers. There, to remain inactive until the vessel reached the fleet in Cornelia. This event came to pass some one month later, just as the sluggish Imperial machine finally settled on a new admiral for the battle group, approved his plan and sent him to take command. The fleet massed, ready for an almighty assault when the rebels activated their dormant command override software and took control of the cruiser. They knew they only had a small window to act in before their virus was found and removed so they wasted no time. Taking advantage of the confusion and doubt this event would no doubt inspire they piloted the cruiser towards the enemy carrier, the heart of the battle group. The carrier tried to move out of the way but it was slow and sluggish, the carrier tried to shoot the cruiser down but even if they had turned it into a flaming wreck it would have had too much momentum. So, with grim inevitability, the cruiser collided with the carrier, detonating its own core as it did so. The resultant explosion tore a hole in the carrier which leaked fuel into space, fuel which set alight and burned right back into its own engine, causing a further, almighty explosion. The explosion, which damaged several other nearby vessels, could be seen from the surface and plays an important role the symbolism of the Ascendancy to this day. Whilst not instantly apparent it marked the ultimate success of their rebellion.

The catastrophic event stalled the putting down of this rebellion even further. But more importantly it was a blow to military capacity for the Empire and an undeniable sign of weakness, weakness neighbours preyed upon. Other nearby nations, hungry for expansion and power set about trying to grab chunks of Imperial space and whilst the Empire would eventually stop these invasions, even reclaiming some lost territory, it had to divert all military efforts away from the rebels to do so. This left the rebels alone to govern themselves not for mere months but for years. The Glorious Revolution was at an end. The Ascendency had begun.

The Harrowing (seventh year of the ascension)

With the revolution won the men of Cornelia united with the orbiting moons that had rebelled following their success and taking advantage of an Empire busy fighting a war against more major powers. Rebranding themselves the Ascendancy they now had to decide how to actually run things. Socialist, near communist, principles were swiftly agreed but disagreement followed when it came to how to establish a sound and effective system of government which was not open to the abuses of the Empire. The Ascendancy leaders and intellectuals were split into two camps. First there were the democrats, then there were the meritocrats, who were themselves split between dictatorial meritocrats and those who wanted a limited democracy where only those of merit could vote. An emergency administration was set up which ran the country and prepared for further war whilst the potential leaders of tomorrow argued about the future.

One man, Alasan Dorasol eventually came out on top. But how he got there was less than honest. Head of the meritocratic dictatorship camp he made two very important friends. Corsal Stanis, who became his head of propaganda and Elephina Miastros who did much of his dirty work and would eventually become head of the joint intelligence services. They decided to avoid reliance on argument by merit to win this war of words. None of them wanted to rely on the intelligence of the common man and the agreement of the masses on intellectual grounds to carry them through. Love the people though they may none of them thought very much of your average man on the street. Instead, they decided to rely on the violent, reactionary and vengeful nature of the mob.

Corsal created fantastic propaganda campaigns, acting as if they were already the leaders of the Ascendancy and calling for the people to unite behind them, calling into question the virtue and integrity of the opposition. This was further supported by Elephina digging up dirt and controversy wherever she could and creating scandal if none was to be found. She would entirely fabricate cases against major political opponents and summon up the evidence to support them, passing such information to the press and to Corsal, relying on the court of public opinion more than the court of law. Meanwhile, they characterised themselves as the epitome of virtue and self-sacrificing service, helping to create the obsession with selflessness the Ascendancy has to this day. As time went by this gradually got more and more extreme, never moving too fast to leave the people behind but never moving so slowly as to give the masses too much time to question it. After a while the political opposition became not merely wrong in the eyes of the public but dangerous counter revolutionaries who had to be stopped.

This came to a head in a night of blood and violence. With Alasan already in effective control of the country he declared these “dangerous counter revolutionaries” to be enemies of the state and the people of the Ascendancy. What followed was four hours of pre planed raids in the dead of night, snatching men and women from their beds and dragging them into custody where they would either face a life sentence for their crimes against the people, or the death penalty. Alasan knew he had truly won when, at the first execution, he watched the crowd cheer. This period became known as the harrowing due to a speech Alasan gave after the final sentence was handed down which contained the words.

“My brothers. I must congratulate you on having weathered this storm, never having once compromised your virtue. Whilst not so long ago the Empire threatened our mere bodies, over the past few months your very souls have been subject to the most wretched siege from an equally wretched foe. A foe who would have turned us from the path of nobility and success, where we may march together as brothers! And who would have instead sent us on the road to oblivion as vile, self-serving filth. You have marched through this storm with great fortitude! Now draw breath for the harrowing of our souls is over.”

In the immediate aftermath of the harrowing an intense campaign of propaganda and national unity was launched, a campaign that may have slowed but has never stopped. The promise of a better, more just and equal world was shipped out to nearby systems to draw in immigrants and the system of government the Ascendancy has today was drawn up. It should be pointed out that the truth about the harrowing and the lies spread by Alasan and his allies have never been revealed. Indeed Elephina destroyed all of the records she could afterwards and it remains one of the Ascendancy’s most closely guarded secrets. Even the current premier does not know the whole truth. Furthermore, whilst the methods of Alasan were highly questionable no one should question his intent. He may have ceased personal power but he meant every ideological word he said he really did believe in a self-sacrificing meritocratic dictatorship. He really believed what he was doing was right.

The Bloody Trials (60th year of the Ascension to 110th year of the Ascension)

These times were inevitable, everyone knew they would come one day but no one knew they would be this bad. More than 50 years after the harrowing, and with Kelleros Fabios the premier of the Ascendancy, the Empire returned. Having dealt with the opportunistic wars of her hawkish neighbours the Empire had regained her strength and turned now to retake the lands taken by those impudent rebels! The Ascendancy had, by this time, acquired a little over a dozen star systems by hook and by crook, many of which were suitable for colonisation or had drone mineral extractor plants. Furthermore they had made themselves as ready as was possible for the onslaught. They had an army, they had a fleet, they had their fortifications but most of all they had their will. A will which could rip the stars from the heavens and shatter the skies! Or so the propaganda said. What followed was 50 years of bloody and constant war. Such a conflict would be far too long to catalogue in any detail here and so we shall instead focus on the most important moments and trends.

The war started well for the Ascendancy, Kelleros and Alasan before him had seen fit to hire in professional military instructors early on in the Ascendancy’s history and now they had a well-trained and well-disciplined force. Combine this with well-prepared positions and steeled souls and you had a winning formula. It was widely believed that after a few months of stubborn resistance the Empire would lose the will to fight once more. But this time they were led by a bloodthirsty Emperor fresh from victory with proved commanders beneath him. The Empire lost a lot of men and a lot of ships but they did not stop. After a few years the Ascendancy body count was starting to get dangerously high whilst the Empire seemed to have a limitless supply of fresh troops. Kelleros ordered that the experimental battle robot program be put into full production, even though testing was not yet complete. Still though, it would take months for the factories to be properly tooled up and the production kinks worked out. During that time the Ascendancy was pushed slowly back, losing their most heavily positions on the border and now defending more vulnerable internal systems. Whilst they would never suffer a single almighty defeat they would suffer lots of little ones, gradually grinding down their manpower and resources.

Eventually their capitol, renamed Ascension, would come under attack. The fleet was ordered away to be repaired and rebuilt on the far edge of their territory and it was up to the ground troops alone to hold the capital. Anyone who could so much as hold a gun was pressed into service if they were no fulfilling some other vital function. The death toll was tremendous but it bought time, enough time for the robots to come on line and march out in their tens of thousands every day. It was a miracle of industrial processes. Their battle AI was still poor and so casualties were vast, but who cared? They were robots! Robot scrap was just broken down to make more robots. Through sheer weight of numbers the home world was secured after months of street to street fighting. Then the rebuilt fleet hit, delivering a heavy blow to the Empire above the very world where they had once lost a mighty carrier. The Ascendancy then began reconquering the nearby systems but at a snail pace as sentient soldiers would outperform robots at near every turn without complex AI. It was only when the experimental battle AI was worked out and the coordination with human commanders was finessed that the robots became an effective fighting force. To guard against AI corruption or hostile control no AI was allowed to command anything larger than a platoon or directly communicate with anything larger than a platoon, keeping sentient life in the loop. Nor have they ever had true autonomy, only ever functioning within strict limits with certain thoughts leading to automatic shutdown. This was more of a safety device than anything else but it also meant genuine life could make the large scale decisions the AI was still not up to. Some people would call this more VI than AI and truly self are machines are strictly outlawed.

A second AI package, to allow robots to man spaceships, suddenly solved the skilled crew problems the Ascendancy was having as well. Now robots could staff most of the low level positions on a ship meaning the Ascendancy could spread the same amount of real life crew across more ships. This allowed a spike in small and medium sized ship production and at last the Ascendancy was getting the edge in numbers both in space and on the ground. A fresh wave of counter attacks soon followed and the Ascendancy grabbed the initiative from the Empire. It was not a simple chain of victories from then on in. The Empire was far from beaten and they continued to launch bold new attacks and mount stubborn defences. Still though, the trend was now in the favour of the Ascendancy and slowly they ground forward. By the end of the war the Ascendancy had pushed into Imperial space, conquering their systems and claiming fresh territory. But administrative restrictions meant they could not plunge deep into the Empire in a single war, not if they wanted to run the space they conquered. So the Ascendancy was forced to stop a little short of a series of major agricultural worlds.

Still though, the Empire launched continual attacks of both increasing ferocity and desperation. It was obvious this Emperor and his cabinet would never give up and so a new Emperor had to be appointed. Of course that meant getting rid of the current one. The solution was operation furnace, a name chosen entirely at random, which aimed to assassinate the Emperor and his senior aides. It was two years in the planning, two years in which the war rolled on, but it’s ultimate success was the thing of espionage legend. A wave of targeted bombings, shootings, supposedly accidental deaths, poisonings and one defenestration later and not only had the Emperor died in wretched agony at a high dinner whilst his stomach tried in vain to vomit out the poison, but many of his top men died in equally gruesome fashion. These killings were designed not merely to help end the war but also to send a powerful message.

Still though, something more was necessary to seal the deal. So came to pass the last act of the war, considered a war crime not just by the Empire but by some outside observers as well. A series of missile strikes and bombing runs on those agricultural planets delivered not explosives but chemical, nuclear and biological destruction. Much of the atmosphere was stripped away, the soil turned to ash, when it did rain it would rain acid, temperatures soared, seas boiled and general chaos befell the world. The death toll was low, those worlds having a very low population and having already been largely evacuated. But food could no longer be grown there and resettlement was near impossible. After this the Ascendancy declared peace, a peace the Empire never officially accepted but grudgingly observed. But despite this peace the Empire was thrown into an agricultural and administrative crisis with hunger riots a common occurrence. This was an unrest the Ascendancy was keen to exploit, dispatching agents with supplies of food for potential rebels as well as training, equipment and advice. Always hoping to add more territory to the Ascendancy.

Recent History (110th year of the Ascendancy to 174th year of the Ascendancy, aka today.)

Post the The Bloody Trials the Ascendancy has never moved out of a war footing. The Empire refuses to recognise their legitimacy as a country, even though many other states do after the war, and refused to accept peace. This phony war continued for a number of years, whilst the Empire’s food crisis only deepened. Eventually the Ascendancy finished off the Empire once and for all by inciting a huge wave of civil disobedience on Delvonia itself. This was of course sternly put down by the military, at which point the Ascendancy launched an invasion in the name of protecting the innocent public, a narrative they have spun ever since. The Imperial military was no longer a match for the Ascendancy and the war was brief. The Imperial family was arrested and quietly executed along with many senior government officials. Since then the Ascendancy has sold its image as liberators to the people of Delvonia with surprising effectiveness, though some outside nations are more sceptical.

Furthermore other nations may look towards the Ascendancy with hungry eyes, eager to prey on the fresh faced young nation. The Ascendancy itself is looking towards expansion, the fall of Delvonia did not mark the complete unification of the Delvonian people. The Empire may be gone but some worlds were not occupied by the Ascendancy and now exist as independent states, worlds the Ascendancy desperately wants to take into its benevolent if totalitarian fold. Only once this has been achieved will they look to other sentient races.

But war is not there only concern. They are undergoing a cultural revolution, trying to find their own identity through music, art, literature and so forth. A breeding program has been introduced, with incentives towards birth though they have stopped short of forced breeding. Furthermore they are now looking to the Galactic North. A stretch of unclaimed, unexplored space awaits and they keen to exploit this. Exploration has been made a priority by the government and they have already sent a great many unmanned drones, remotely piloted from back inside the Ascendancy itself, into the nearby unknown space. These drones hunt out resources and once a suitable location is found they land and act as a homing beacon for automated ships carrying automated miners and other industrial machines. These automatic colonies are, again, controlled at a distance and repair crews seldom have to be sent out as the repair drones on the colony itself are usually sufficient. The world of Vespasia has also been established in the nearby part of unknown space and serves as a glistening example of what may be and a promise for the future for the people of the Ascendancy. Indeed such exploration is receiving an increasing emphasis in state propaganda and their emergent culture. It is as if the unknown stars are theirs by right and must be explored and brought under their civilisation. In that way it is akin to what was once termed manifest destiny by the United States, not that many in the Ascendancy even know that country existed.

Power: Ascendancy ships, whilst well designed, have huge power draws as a result of their many high energy systems. To install multiple conventional nuclear generators or even hydrogen fusion reactors would make the vessel far too large. So instead a single conventional generator acts as a starter motor for a miniature, internalised space fold manipulation field more often used for transporting whole ships through great swathes of space. Within this field several nuclear reactions take place in a near unbridled firestorm taking place within a tiny pocket dimension which opens into this world in a tiny hole barely an atom wide. Vents and energy capture devices over this hole suck up the inferno of escaping energy and power the ship. At first this system of power generation resulted in several disastrous testing runs as the pocket dimension ripped open, unleashing colossal amounts of nuclear Armageddon, consuming the thankfully unmanned test ships. Eventually however, stability and safety were worked out. Even if the space fold manipulators were to fail the pocket dimension is charged in such a way as it will collapse inwardly, safely shutting off the perpetual explosion from this universe. Some physicists have speculated that this creates a whole new universe with a big bang of its own and that even we may have come about by these means. But there is an entirely untestable theory and of academic note only.

These generators are however, difficult to make, and found only on military vessels. Furthermore they are banned from being used on the surface of a planet or activated for the first time within five light-years of any inhabited world. Even their manufacture is only permitted on distant meteors. They may be safe now but the government is still unwilling to take the risk given that the reward would be mere convenience, whilst on military ships it is a necessity.

Transportation: Before they were used for power generation space fold manipulation fields were used as a second form of faster than light travel. More conventional FTL engines were used beyond the borders of the Ascendancy or when off the beaten track. But within their sphere of control space fold manipulation beacons were set up. If two aligned field generators were activated then any vessel within a given distance would be catapulted to the other beacon at near instantaneous speeds. These beacons were essential in the latter half of the time of Bloody Trials, allowing reinforcements to be moved at blinding speed to new fronts and as such their workings are a closely guarded secret. Attempts to tamper with them are harshly punished and often the device will be detonated as a precautionary measure. Furthermore, all use of such beacons is subject to verification from the central space traffic control and flight plans must be submitted well in advance. Without their say so, well, you’re going the long way my friend.

The Ascendancy does have teleportation technology but it cannot be used for hyper mass, and tends to be limited to short range personal teleportation. It is impractical as a means of doing anything on a large scale.

Offensive: The EO 125-16 warhead augmentation is a device which can be fitted onto most rail gun ammunition and is quickly becoming standard issue. The Raw kinetic force of rail gun rounds, combined with chemical compound armour piecing tips, can deal with convention ship armour better than most weapons. But shields were another matter. Often sheer volume of fire or vast laser batteries were needed to overpower the enemy shields. The EO 125-16 put an end to that. By emitting an electrical and sub space distortion field just ahead of the round itself it would create highly localised shield stability and integrity failure, in essence creating a mini hole in the shield for a split second, allowing the round to pass through unopposed and slam into the ship’s armour. However, this device has only been used in the lab and controlled fire exercises. It has been tested time and time again but has yet to face actual combat. The Admiral’s of the Ascendancy await its first use in the field anxiously.

Defensive: Whilst the Ascendancy poses shields and armour like anyone else they have put a great deal of effort into the development of electronic countermeasures. Whilst they by no means have true cloaking technology they can baffle enemy sensors and lock on systems or cause warheads to detonate prematurely by duping them into thinking they have already reached their target. In battle their sensor baffles make it look as though their ships shield integrity is wildly fluctuating and that their power grid is highly unstable with power spike and failures all over the place. They are of course, operating smoothly. It is all in the name of confusion and misdirection. As a bi product of this they have learnt to build remarkable sensors themselves. A bit like a magician inventing a trick and by so doing knowing how to spot that and similar tricks when used by others.

Out of battle this same technology can make a ship almost invisible to long range sensors, so long as they can contain their heat. Large ships have difficulty with sensor invisibility and tend not to be used for stealth missions. But smaller vessels with specially designed heat synchs can go dark for a surprisingly long time before needing to vent.

The Ascendancy does have shielding technology, but the field projectors currently at their disposal make personal shielding impossible. Shields are reserved for ships, forts or fixed positions. Their smallest mobile field projector is the size of a truck and can move with troops on the field, but it is far from a perfect solution.

Cybertronics: Whilst these men make sturdy battle droids of high quality they are not truly remarkable, not mechanically anyway. But after the time of bloody trials the AI packages that control these droids has gotten more and more advanced. They are becoming every faster, ever smarter, ever better soldiers. However, it should be stressed that they are not true AI. They can think like a man, though with mortal frailties such as fear removed, but only in a specific situation. The military AI is utterly incapable of reasoning or logic beyond the military world and any hint that they may have thought beyond this is instantly crushed before it can become sentient, with not only that droid destroyed but every droid it ever networked with. Furthermore, to prevent the creation of a hive mind droids cannot give commands, coordinate or function at anything above platoon level. Indeed, mortal commanders tend to take the roles of senior sergeants and up even amongst droid forces. This partly makes up for any failures in AI but also acts as a safety measure against sentience or a robot take over. No machine can ever talk to too much.

Utility: This civilisation may not be gifted at micro manufacture but by golly gosh can they do macro manufacturing. These men are masters of the grand scale with their factories the size of towns and smelters the size of skyscrapers. Woe betide the man who tries to out produce their industrial complex once it gets up and running.

Biotech: In this regard the Ascendancy is entirely run of the mill, though biological weapons do continue to be of use and interest to them after their use in the time of bloody trails. As part of this they have also researched biological clean up tools in order to better mop up after man made or natural biological disasters.

Hopefully this meets with approval, I tweaked the sheet a little to make the information flow a little more readily. However, all the requested info should be there and a bit more, hopefully.

The Andarian Imperial Confederation

Located in Quadrant 7

Government: The Andarian Imperial Confederation is a group of hundreds of Andari nations ruled under an Emperor and his Imperial Senate, made up of representatives from the nations of Andar. The Emperor is the supreme authority on all issues involving the Andari people, the Imperial Senate does most of the governing however.

The Andari Species: The Andari are a mammalian, feline-like race which uniquely suffers from the inability to feel. Andari are fearless in battle and often impossible to break through torture, yet they suffer tremendous casualties in battle and most don't live past the age of fifty. Most Andari have a height of 6'7 but taller Andari aren't unheard of.

Andari Orbital Regiment x2

2,000 Orbital Marines w/ Exoskeletons

Technology: The Andarian Imperial Armed Forces currently uses technology similar to that of 22nd Century earth. It's Starfleet consists of slow, lightly armored spaceships, however it's Corvettes do carry nuclear weaponry. Exoskeletons are used by a small portion of the Imperial Armed Forces known as Storm Infantry, as well as Orbital Marines. It gives the users immense strength and speed, as well as a bit of protection, without tiring the user. Faster than light travel is currently not possible yet the government believes scientists are on the verge of creating a warp engine.

Empire/Nation Name: Cybatorain Empire

Empire/Nation Location: sector 14

Government: ruled by one emperor, who has three people to keep toe control, one of war, one of industrialism, and one of planet order

Species Name: Cyber Torigans

Technological Tier: 2

Population: 24 billion/ 500 million of them are Torigan slaves

Colonised planets:

Askabar: home planet/ the first planet to be colonized (or re-colonized) by the Cyber Torigans, its geography was about 70% forested flat-lands, and 30% mountains/ after re-colonization, all of the trees were cudown, in place of huge scycrapers that fill the bulk of the planet, and the mountains, containing the Empires most important buildings, including the four palaces of the emperor and his three officials, and headquarters to the Empires riches and most productive companies to date. (holds 9 billion people)

Talalia: second planet colonized/ this huge "bigger than life" planet is where most of the population and commercial centers are at, with a geography of 60% artic mountains, 30% water, and 10% revienes, this is where most of the average class population lives (holds 10 billion people)

Kronos: third colonized planet/ a quiet planet, when it comes to population and commercial, but is one of two leading reasons for the empires over whelming economy, with a geography of 90% water, and 10% platues, it is used as a giant farming planet, in which they sell this food of for mainly expinsive metallic parts, plus most of the scientist live here in under water facilities, as to conduct their research in private (holds 4 billion people)

Pretonas: fourth colonized planet/ with half of its population living in slums, and the other half military partrol units making sure their Torigan slaves (the first part of the population), this is where 80% of the empires economic success comes from, with a geography of 90% desert wasteland, and 10% volcanic mountains, the 500 million Torigan slaves are all worked here to mine and collect the valuable resources this planet holds, which is then just plain sold off for profit (holds 1 billion people)

Fleet Strength (In all three ship classes):

corvettes/1000

Cruisers/500

battleships/10 ( 1 "mothership" reserved for the emperor)

Land Strength (In Army Groups): Total army: 5,503,000

Basic infranty: 1 million (equipped with basic exo-skeleton armor, V-1 Charge rifle, Thermal blade)

Heavy infranty: 1 million ( equipped with heavy exo-skeleton armor, V-2 Charge rifle, EX-Charge gun, Thermal sword)

Basic vehicle units: 1 million ( drive 56M-Mil Drones, can hold 6 soldiers, equipped with XX-Double Turrent)

Heavy vehicle units: 1 million ( drive 6X-Mil Super Drones, can hold 12 soldiers, equipped with Mecha X3 Plasma Rocket, and XX-Double Turrent)

Aireal units: 1 million ( drive 5Y Mil Seekers, equipped with MV-Charger Vulcans, and MV-Rocket Pupulsers, can hold 20 soldiers)

Partrol units: 500 thousand ( equipped with basic exo-skeleton armor, V-9 Shock Cannon, thermal whip, V-7 Stock Blasters)

"Stormer" units: 3 thousand ( equipped with the XXP-Stormer Mech)

Overview: Origonally normal Troigans, now enhanced into a cyber-like version over 20000 years ago, now they have maximum lifespand of 200 yrs, and run on a battery, which must be refilled (via, solar panel attached to it) every month (note: with three of these per person, they always have a back-up while one is charging). They are smarter, and geneticly more physical Perfected thn their Predisesors.

Physiology: Blue, elven looking creatures who are also cyborgs (this is visable in every persons right side of their face, and left arm, as those places are fully metallic), are 7ft tall average by 50, have better average eyesight, intelligence, and physical strength as opposed to a human by 100%, and to Troigans by 60%

History: About 20000 years ago, one Troigan man made a genetic shot, that replaced your body with cyborg features...he then choose himself and 100 voluenters to test this shot on...and it worked...they then proceded to take over the Troigan government, repopulate (note, when Cyber Troigans have kids, their kids are ingected with the shot), rebuild, and recreate the Troigan Legacy

Technology:

Weapons

V-1 charge rifle: a rifle like weapon, that uses a battery capable of shooting 60 charges (rounds) per battery (clip) (shoots like storm trooper weapons)

Thermal blade: a blade made out of the same energy used in the V-1, but magnetized to hold said energy in a knife like form exactly 1 ft long (note, that if handle is broken, then blades energy will be released in a bullet like way)

V-2 charge rifle: similar to V1, but with 100 charges per battery, and can peirce large amounts of armor

EX- charge gun: holds 20 charges per battery, has a slow fire rate and short range, but is the strongest weapon so far (shotgun)

Thermal sword: like the thermal blade, but with a 6 ft long blade

XX-Double Turrent: holds 600 charges per battery, charge size is 3x bigger than V-2 rifle, and per its name, has two barrels which shoot two rounds at the same time

Mecha X-3 plasma rocket: attached to the 6X-mil super drone ( aka, a gloifyed floating tank)

MV-charger Vulcans: Shoot V-2 charges, holds 10000 charges per battery (mini-gun)

MV-rocket pupulsers: only attached to arieal of "stormer" units, they shoot special incerator rockets that when contact, have an explosion radius of 600 m (note, aerial hold 6, while "stormers" hold 8) (the actual rocket size is 2 ft, and that with its firepower, is one of the most advanced weapons created by the Cyber Troigans)

V-9 shock blaster: moddled after the V-1, and with the same charge per battery, the obly difference it that the charges in this gun are made to stun, and not to kill, for a time between 6-10 seconds (only used by partrol units)

Thermal whip: a metallic whip, with a laser field, used to whip people into sumisson (only used by partrol units)

V-7 stock blaster: shoots 15 charges per battery, slightly weaker than V-1, can still get the job done (only used by partrol units)

Armor/vehicles

exo-skeleton: a full body, metallic body armor, can deflect any metallic ammo (bullets), and small amounts of advanced fire for a short time

Heavy exo-skeleton: a full body, metallic body armor, triple the bulk of the standard exo-skeleton, can deflect any metallic ammo (bullets), a standard amount of advanced fire, and a small amount of advanced explosion techinques

(note, everything after this message can deflect any metallic ammo)

56m-Mil drone: fast, lightweight hovercraft (hovers 2 ft from ground), can wistand standard amount of advanced fire

6X-Mil super drone: slow heavyweight hovercraft (2 ft), can wistand all advanced fire, and most advanced explosion techinques

5Y mil Seekers: fast averageweight aircraft, can wistand most advanced fire, and some amount of advanced explosion technique

XXP-Stormer Mech: fast, heavyweight ground force, a 20ft Mech, that can wistand all advanced fire, and most advanced explosion techinques/equipped with a larger version of the MV-charger Vulcan for its left arm, holds 10000 charge shots per round and 5 rounds, an MV-rocket pupulser cannon on its left sholder, and a 12 ft Thermal blade held in its right hand

energy production

Nuclear fusion: this is their clean energy source, with their nuclear fusion plants producing 10000000 jolts yearly, and all planets using 8000000 yearly, they have energy saved over, which they will only trade if asked to.

when it comes to construction, they use nana-building technology, to turn materials into structers in mere hours

as of food, they don't eat it themselves, but they do sell it, and grow it fast with fruit aging particles they enject into to the plants

their mining technique is superb, using lazer technology, conbined with teleportation and filters, they filter dirt and stuff to outerspace junkyards, and anything valueable into certain classification containers

The concept is interesting, but would you care to elaborate how your people reproduce if they are basically Machines?
they are cyborgs, not full machines...their eggs and sperm have been untouched, and when a child is born, they are immediantly giving the shot, so that's how they become cyborgs themselves

Empire/Nation Location :13

Government: Altaria is ruled by 1 emperor with a big council that has Altarians of all different races and social standings. This is so the emperor can make more informed decisions. The emperor name is Kor'ei the sixth

Species Name: Hasphat(view picture)

Technological Tier: 3

Population: 12 billion Hasphat, 1 billion Kre'tou and 5 million smouk.

Colonised planets: The Hasphat have colonised 3 planets so far,

Korema: The homeworld of the hasphat, 4 times the size of earth and covered in thick forests, swamps, high mountains and a huge Lake, which could be considered an ocean.

Las'mour: the planet where the Kre'tou originated from. This planet was at the end of the industrial era when the Hasphat conquered it. The whole planet is one single landmass surrounded by an endless ocean. The planets one continent is divided into three biomes: a barren plateou in the north a treacherous desert in the middle and a Jungle below the sandy belt. Kre'tou were fish like people. While they were weak and had short lives, they were also ingenious and have since their conquering helped Altaria advance through technology. Because of them Altaria borders on becoming an interstellar civilization.

Koulus: The homeworld of the smouk, when the Hasphat and Kre'tou came the planet was barely in its bronze age. The whole planet is a giant desert, rich in ore with a few lakes. The Smouk were cat like creatures. Smouk are the best assasins in the empire and are higly sought after by officials and criminals alike.

Fleet Strength (In all three ship classes):

5 Battleships

700 Cruisers

8000 Corvettes

Land Strength (In Army Groups):

15 Soriton(Heavely modified Hasphat, Smouk and Kre'tou. Just like the emperor they cant die by natural means and posess superhuman abilities , some of them include: Being immune to fire, breathing when there is no oxygen and teleporting over small distances. Each of the Soriton leads a legion of heavely enhanced soldiers, different Soriton have different insignia for their legion.)

15 Legions of Sori, 500 men each.( Soldiers of the Soriton, each legion has a power similar to its Soriton.)

5 million Heavy Infantry.

5 million Light Infantry

1 million Bloaters( Hasphat with acidic glands on them, these use an acid amplifier to shot acid at their enemies, melting skin, bone and metal.)

500 000 separator tanks( tanks that shoot small shots so fast they tear apart the molecules of whatever they hit, very effective against everything but incredibly expensive to make.)

6 million land vehicles

1 million areal vehicles

500 infiltrators( Smouk assasins trained on sabotage, surprise attacks, spying and counter spying.)

Overview and history:

a long living lizard species. The hasphat originate from the swamps of their own planet, where they managed to survive a mass extinction in the form of a plague, thanks to their resilience against diseases. After that they quickly spread over the planet and had it conquered. All of this they did before inventing the wheel. The reason the Hasphat managed to do this was because they elected an emperor.

When the Hasphat have an emperor they get them a sense of unity with each other and therefore work together and managed to achieve much more.

When the emperor gets crowned, he is put within a cocoon where his body changes. One of the things that happens with his body is that a new emotion gets planted into his brain, The emotion acts as a coolant to the brain and allows the emperor to think calmer, even in the heat of battle. The emperor also gains a random power. For example, once an emperor got a power that, when cast grew cabbages around him instantly.

Physiology : (advise image for appearance) The Hasphat are a race of warriors and therefore relish in the chance to battle. To their enemies they seem like bloodthirsty warrior but to their allies they are a friendly bunch who only want to be friends. In other words the Hasphat have a duality to them.

Technology:

The only Technology the Hasphat have that is unique to them is the separator technology, when hit by a beam of it the molecules of the target get torn apart and pulverized. Most of the weapons in the Altaria work on this technology.

Technology:

Power systems: Mainly fission and fusion for cities, and

FTL: Slip-Stream; utilizes an alternate dimension where distance is greatly dilated in comparison to real space.

Space travel engines: Fusion drive for forward momentum. A deuterium fusion reactor ejects it's plasma out a series of rockets on the back of the ship, propelling it forward at high speeds. Fine maneuvering is accomplished by small rockets firing out compressed air along the ship, and all ships have emergency shaped charges for quickly dodging attacks or getting some extra thrust.

Medical: Shadowrun level genetic and mechanical augmentation, anti-aging treatments, reliable cancer treatment.

Space to surface: pretty good

Industrial: Mostly modern technology for production. Most raw materials are collected from asteroids or large scale ground mining operations.

CEO: john cena, 70 years old. Born 2020, March 7th

Assests: Mines and factories on astoroids and in the oceans of balboa

History: Established in 2043 by John cena, justace tech was the foremost provider of mining equipment and a major investor in the mining industry for the first colonies in Sol. However, this changed in 2050, August 3rd, on the day the first slip space engine was succesfully tested. The activation of the engine caused one of the main mining complexes Mars Tech owned in tireno, one of the asteroid clusters near balboa, to go silent. Unfortunately, jhon was touring the facility on that day to inspect word of ruins found on the planet. 2 days later, when a recovery team was sent, it was discovered that they had done the impossible; they had unlocked the gates to Hell itself. The facility was overrun by gibbering horrors; however, what they didn't expect was that one man would drive them back. jhon was determined to not let these Demon motherfuckers take over the facility; he organized the few survivors left to barricade themselves into the repair bay, using mining equipment and mining hardsuits to hold off the demons. Meanwhile, jhon grabbed a chainsaw, a sawed off shotgun, an automatic rifle, and a set of security armor, and delved into the depths of the facility. He fought his way through hordes of demons, before going into hell itself. He managed to destroy the artifact keeping the gate open, barely escaping Hell before it was locked forever. (Still iamge taken from camera near digsite: <p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_07/upload_2016-7-26_23-49-11.jpeg.a10bbc1b48edde12d6dc052143c613bf.jpeg" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="145747" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_07/upload_2016-7-26_23-49-11.jpeg.a10bbc1b48edde12d6dc052143c613bf.jpeg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>) With the portal closed, the remaining survivors decided that it was now their duty to create the biggest, baddest weapons to fight any further threats to humanity. Today, Torgue is now a hardass that personally advertises for Mars Tech's products, and they produce some of the most badass weaponry available.

Assests: Arms manufacturing plants across universe

History: Established in 2031 by it's founder bob Hurryson, determination Corp was a major weaponry producer on Earth. However, in 2053, a man named toby Konrad managed to outmanuever other share holders and acquire the trust of the board, gaining a majority in the company's stocks and being assigned CEO of determination corp. It is unknown where he comes from, and any of his background; he showed up one day in the former United States with a large sum of money and an entire mercenary outfit that he identified as "The Damned 33rd". He immediatly set out to expand determination corp, outsourcing to foreign vehicle manufacturers and absorbing DHB Industries' Point Blank Body Armor. This allowed them to become one of the largest arms manufacturers for the keepers, with multiple government contracts.

@tealevergood

Most of those names and such look oddly familiar...

(You sly bastard).

Also, the Yamato is the Undyne class.

You can keep it though; you already seemed to have taken most of the stuff from my CS (which is fine by me).

@tealevergood

While I do appreciate the effort, you are supposed to make one race and not several. And I'm afraid that your Empire kind of is a bit out of the concept that I intended for the Roleplay. (Too much fantasy etc) I'm really sorry, if you adjusted it more along the lines of all the other sign-ups I'll take another look at it. Also please keep everything in one post :)

^You can find plenty of unique species here, which you could take ideas from if you'd like to :)

@forgefan

If you would elaborate on things such as physiology for example, maybe explain how your species can survive the gravity on a planet that is four times the size of Earth, aswell as removing some of those superhuman features, reducing the amount of Corvettes, and simply overall giving your species a nerf I'll take another look at it :)

Burea of Paranormal investigation

Classified organization dedicated to the defense of the the keepers from the mindless undead and anceint artifacts of unknown effect. When miners unearth an ancient alien artifact and suddenly start a death cult dedicated to some unknown diety and begin practicing blood magic to over throw the keepers, these are the guys who cover it up.

They have facilities throughout keeper space. The most "prominent" is Site 17, a secure holding facility on the planet REDACTED, in the REDACTED system. Site 7 stores multiple artifacts currently being studied by the BOPI.

The BOPI maintains a military branch known as the Mobile Task Force. They also maintain a small fleet, usually used for transporting MTF squads and raining down hellfire when a threat is unable to be contained.

Culture: There is a massive variety of cultures in the different race's in the citizenship of, because of natural planetary and geological borders during the keeper's early history. However, several main groups exist. There is a massive amount of mix between the groups, and even then there are massive mixtures in the groups themselves, so this is a rough outline.

shartana/balboa:a city blooming with art and the greatest minds. hosts the patience keepers dungeon

Neo-Aviana/balboa: a metropolis full of lights and music. hosts the justice keepers dungeon

bronatia/tilanor: the capital of the keepers and the city that surrounds the great keepers dungeon

tinoro/tilanor: a thriving trade city, hosts the kindness keepers dungeon

Aflintona/terra: a cultural , full of ditzy airheads, hosts the integrity keepers dungeon

bonbonty/terra: a big military outpost, hosts the bravery keepers dungeon

bibontony/terra: a thriving mining city, hosts the determination keepers dungeon

View attachment 322787

(Still image taken from camera near dig-site:
upload_2016-7-26_23-49-11-jpeg.322793
) With the portal closed, the remaining survivors decided that it was now their duty to create the biggest, baddest weapons to fight any further threats to humanity. Today, Torgue is now a hardass that personally advertises for Mars Tech's products, and they produce some of the most badass weaponry available.

determination Corp

CEO: toby Konrad, Age unknown, Birth Date unknown

upload_2016-7-26_23-52-6-jpeg.322796

(Prepare for wall of text)

General tactics: keeper tactics rely on brute force and a specialization from each keeper based on there thing. Command structures are high priority targets as well.

justice: there team relies on convincing enemy soldiers that there doing the wrong thing so they switch sides. if that doesn't work they use honorable tactics to win.

kindness: they try to win wars diplomatically and use peaceful tactics and often take in wounded enemy solders. they also are masters of defense though if there is absolutely no other option they will fight though reluctantly.

bravery: they try to win by using tactics that basically goes along the lines of either you surrender or were both fucked.

integrity: they try to scare the opponents and do recon tactics. integrity is the support team.

patience:
patience uses traps and snipers to take out the opponent, waiting for the right time to strike.

perseverance: these guys try to win by outlasting the opponent and are more of a defensive team.

determination: these guys win by sheer will power pushing there bodies past what is physically possible.

Empire/Nation Name: Valerian Empire

Empire/Nation Location: Sector 15

Government: The main body of Valerian society is under the rule of a calculated and fair empire council, headed by a compassionate and well respected Emperor Valour

Species Name: Valerian

Technological Tier: 3, going on 2

Population: Estimated at around 35 Billion

Colonised planets: The majority of Valerians reside on a pair of near identically sized planets that orbit each other mutually. Each is slightly smaller than Earth. They sit close in the system and orbit a red dwarf star. They are names Valeria and Terraria (Not a deliberate reference hehe). The magnetic fields between the planets are incredibly powerful, and render most conventional instruments wildly inaccurate. Each planet houses around 17 Billion Valerians. These planets are fairly cramped and uncomfortable, a large part of the landmass remains underwater for about half of the day, and the salt content has sterilized the soil there. Currently there are a few moons orbiting a neighbouring planet with small colonies littering them, but many of the Valerians there are part of large unregistered families and are unaccounted for, hence the rough guess of population count

Fleet Strength: 30 Corvettes

10 Cruisers

1 Battleship

Land Strength: There are 30 Different Military Groups under Valerian Control, a standard group contains around 100 000 Valerians of any gender. 25 of these groups are a standard force consisting of 10 Divisions of 10 MBT's often accompanied by an Anti-Infantry Escort usually consisting of around 20 IFVs per division. Each standard group contains a unit of 1500 Fighters. There are also attack squadrons who utilise a stable rotor based platform to deliver high firepower from the skies. The rest of the units are primarily foot soldiers with machinegun and anti-tank teams mixed in. There are 5 specialist groups, each of these contain elite and often artificially enhanced individuals. One is a dedicated team of 1000 elite fighter pilots. One is a division of 50 heavily armoured quadrupedal tanks. There is a covert ops division of 500, mostly female Valerians. The remaining two are groups of 1000 heavily mechanized infantry, donned in advanced suits.

Overview: Valerians are a proud and honourable race. They believe in equality and equal influence and power. They place this sacred ideal in the hands of an emperor, who is democratically elected once a year. They are family oriented, but have a strong sense of justice. They are naturally curious and bear many similarities to humanity, bar the occasional nutcase.

Physiology: Valerians are very humanlike in their appearance. The lower and more irregular gravity on their planet leaves with an average height of around 250cm. The dimness of their home star gives them an often pale complexion, with different ethnic groups having varied shades of washed out colour, ranging from pale reds and skin coloured groups, to those with blues, greens and purples in their tone. The darker nature of their planet left the Valerians with large eyes and incredibly clear and accurate vision and depth perception. they have all of the base five senses, each being acute and accurate, but easily overpowered and damaged. They are usually of a slender build, although the desert people’s earliest genetics research has created a race of shorter and softer Valerians. They often appear on children’s shows and in modelling magazines, as angular features are considered average and boring to many. A completely natural Valerian has a lifespan of 150 years, but biological technology has allowed many to live as long as their brains survive, there is much debate as to whether descending into insanity or brain death is worth the extra years, and many choose to end it while they are still capable of making the choice.

History: Valerian history has faded over the years but, many of the old stories tell of a devastating war between Valerians and a powerful hive mind race. This would be the inspiration for many Valerian weapons systems. In modern Valerian history there has been a relative peace, with only smaller colonies on the moons to cause a stir. Valerians have a strong sense of comradery and friendship, and would rather settle disputes fairly than with force. There has only been one major conflict in their recent history, that was between the planets as the new colony on Terrarium struggled to become free of Valerian rule. Their outdated military was stubborn however, and a gruelling hundred yearlong conflict. Valeria was hit hardest, they became overpopulated and undermanned. The colonists were barely overrun and the race vowed never to point their weapons toward each other again. It is believed that pre-modern Valerians were actually more advanced than their modern counterparts. Many severely damaged artefacts have been found in the water lands which hint at magnetics manipulation and automatic terraforming, as well as an impossibly large wreck of what is thought to be a pre-extinction Valerian ship, equipped with incredibly powerful yet completely unusable weapons systems millions of years ahead of current tech.

Technology: Valerians are a 3rd tier race. Their ship propulsion is based on the fusion studied from their sun. All energy is supplied by the massive complex that orbits closely to their sun and harnesses energy through highly efficient solar panels and steam turbines. It is manned entirely by a powerful AI hive mind that controls the transport frigates full of power cells and supplies mined from a nearby asteroid belt. It is entirely self-sustained. Valerians have developed powerful jump drives which operate on quantum mechanics to theoretically shift the entire universe around their fleet. It is the only technology salvaged from the old wreck in space.

Their military force contains a wide variety of systems and vehicles.

Foot soldiers: Every soldier comes equipped with standard liquid body armour, which hardens against an impact, it is incredibly effective at blocking any serious injury from any melee attack, and dispersed energy from a standard projectile weapon. The recent electromagnetic railgun sniper rifle systems are effective against it however. The projectile usually passes through before the armour can react, and if it does, the energy in the projectile turns the hardened armour into a massive hollow point style projectile that crushes internal organs and shred through, often leaving gaping, foot wide holes in the target.

The standard weapon is an assault rifle style weapon which fires powerful lead rounds at speeds twice that of a gun from today. It is stopped by the armour, barely. Machine gunners are equipped with three barrelled repeating gauss cannons, which are essentially much less volatile railguns. All anti-tank weapons contain a shaped deuterium fusion charge capable of punching through a foot of standard iron. They usually come with an AI guidance system to ensure a high hit rate

Tusk MBT's are equipped with a large 100mm railgun that fires tungsten sabot shells, with a coaxial anti infantry auto loaded cannon with HE rounds. They are heavily armoured, shrouded in a 10-inch-thick layer of armour that consists of a fairly lightweight carbon molecule. The final layer of this armour is made of a tempered Damascus steel. It is very efficient at dispersing energy. The tank has a few soft spots on the top and rear where heatsinks and sensitive equipment are located. The tank is equipped with both flares and an APS system which detonates projectiles before they reach the tank. It is ineffective against fast moving or solid projectiles.

Striker IFV's are equipped standard with an eight barrelled chain gun that fires airburst projectiles at 1000rpm. They also come with limited AT capabilities which consist of similar rocket launchers mounted above and behind the main cannon. The IFV can hold 10 soldiers + crew and has a similar, although thinner armour composition as the Tusk MBT. It also has an APS system.

Wasp Fighters come with a single seat and are incredibly agile, able to switch from VTOL and Fixed Wing flight modes relatively quickly. They are also capable of seamless transition from space and back but do not have the ability to jump to distant locations. They are armed with a powerful chain gun that fires solid tungsten projectiles and over 2000rpm as well as twin railguns under the nose of the fighter that are capable of punching through standard steel easily. They are also fitted with 6 hardpoints, 3 to a wing, which can hold AA AT or AP rocket pods and missiles. The pilot is equipped with a pressurised skin-tight suit that ensures blood is still pumping correctly during particularly taxing manoeuvres. In case of catastrophic damage, the pilot is able to overload the fusion effectively turning the craft into an immensely powerful torpedo. Enough of these kamikaze style attacks are capable of easily obliterating any standard cruiser that Valerians have ever encountered.

Buzzard Gunships are a rotary based aircraft designed to deliver massive ordinance. Due to their nature, they are incapable of space flight. They have two main rotors and one on the tail to counter torque. The body of the Buzzard is built surrounding an electro-magnetic railgun that rivals the power of the Tusk Tanks main cannon. There is a single pilot and a powerful AI seated in the cockpit. This AI has control over a hive mind of thousands of tiny smart rockets which are released from the dozens of rocket pods on the body of the craft. The AI uses these in two ways, one being to pepper and vaporise infantry encampments, the second being in a manner of repeated impacts on a specific point in an armoured target. Once the armour is breached, hundreds of these rockets fly into the target and detonate, turning the vehicles contents into a soup. The Buzzard has a distinct low buzzing sound, similar to a hornet, and all aggressors quickly learn to avoid it.

The elite fighter squadron make use of a very advanced fighter craft nicknamed 'Terror'. These ships are capable of interstellar travel and contain massive ordinance. Underneath the craft are two powerful chain guns with fire rates well over 2000rpm. They use similar technology to railguns and have incredible penetrating power, compounded by the terrifying fire rate. While capable of holding an arsenal of guided missiles, most pilots find them shameful and cowardly, so most Terrors have four sets of four dumb fire rocket pods mounted instead. These craft have advanced stealth capabilities and can cloak, appearing almost completely invisible. As a final insult, they are capable of completely changing into a slow bipedal walker when air travel is too risky. All weapons are available to the pilot while the craft is grounded. The limited force of them is caused by the immense g-forces that must be resisted during a rapid transformation.

Sentinel Tanks are a terrifying invention. They are roughly double the size of a Tusk MBT and get around on four heavily armoured 'legs'. They have four main electromagnetic cannons in the turret, and the entire main hull of the tank is armed with tiny robots with diamond cutters. When the tank is becoming overrun it deploys these bots which fill the skies searching for targets. When a lock is achieved they will quickly dismantle any target, biological or mechanical, into small parts. The tank is equipped with a powerful magnetic shield that deflects almost all projectiles, the only spot not covered by this is the underside of the tank, which is difficult to reach. The whole tank is powered by 6 fusion engines in the back.

The covert ops division is an elite group of quiet and cunning women, equipped with one handed silenced projectile weapons. They usually wear a suit which bends light around them when charged, rendering the user almost invisible. They are tasked with stealth ops, which are rarely used in Valerian warfare.

The remaining two divisions make use of powerful armed suits. These suits have a lifting force of around 2 tons. They come equipped with a large battle rifle which is a repeating railgun with an rpm of around 300. The suits have a limited APS system and decent survivability in areas with no atmosphere. They operate underwater, to a depth of around 1km and are resistant to most small arms fire, with the exception of a gauss sniper rile.

Corvette class Valerian ships are armed with powerful railguns on all sides. These dwarf the standard cannons on the Sentinel Tank. They have a magnetic shield with a weak point at the rear, where the engines are. They also have numerous ports on all sides which launch small thermo-nuclear warheads at aggressors. They are heavily armoured, with a liquid layer designed to disperse energy across the entire ships armour and dampen any impacts. The engines are fusion based, and they are capable of space jumps.

Cruiser class ships are mostly the same as corvettes, with compounded size and firepower. They also house enough room to store fighter pilots and their jets in the thousands.

The pride of the Valerian fleet is the Valour, named after the emperor. The entire ship is so large that it had to be assembled in orbit. In the heart of the ship is the most powerful weapon known to them, a powerful railgun that fires a large tungsten rod at Mach 10. The projectile is theoretically capable of overturning the crust of a rock planet the size of the Valerian home worlds. This terrible weapon has never been fired, but dozens of AI calculations have showed the projectile to be too solid to stop effectively with any known technologies to Valerians. The ship has a single engine which is suspended in a magnetic field toward the rear of the ship. It mimics the fusion found in a red dwarf, and the ship had to be reinforced immensely to stop the gravity of the engine from crushing the ship. It is theoretically capable of travelling anywhere in the known universe, yet it hasn’t left the system in which it was conceived. The hull is lined with AI powered gauss turrets with a barrels that are 20m across. This is the only Valerian Battleship.

Empire/Nation Name: Valerian Empire
Empire/Nation Location: Sector 14

Government: The main body of Valerian society is under the rule of a calculated and fair empire council, headed by a compassionate and well respected Emperor Valour

Species Name: Valerian

Technological Tier: 3, going on 2

Population: Estimated at around 35 Billion

Colonised planets: The majority of Valerians reside on a pair of near identically sized planets that orbit each other mutually. Each is slightly smaller than Earth. They sit close in the system and orbit a red dwarf star. They are names Valeria and Terraria (Not a deliberate reference hehe).
