  • Skylie Dyer
    Skylieeeeee.jpg

    “What the hell…?”

Skylie Dyer hated the fact that she was going to a university. She didn’t really see the point in it, seeing as she couldn’t care less about her education. But… the art classes here weren’t all that bad. It was possibly the only worthwhile thing at this school.

This morning marked Skylie’s second year at this strange school, full of even weirder people. She wasn’t sure what made it weird, and she couldn’t put her finger on it, but something about this place felt… off. It gave her an odd feeling, which was saying a lot, because she was the girl who could see freaking auras, but nevertheless, it wasn’t a very pleasant feeling.

The moment she stepped outside the dorm (which she unfortunately had to live in, since she was refusing to speak to her mother and therefore couldn’t demand an apartment for herself as a substitute), she regretted it. Colors, colors everywhere. As much as she loved painting with all these colors, she couldn’t stand them so early in the morning, before she’d had any sort of sustenance to fill her belly.

Shutting her eyes, she leaned against a tree, driving back the incoming headache. Oh, how she hated this strange ability she had. This was why painting was okay. Painting never gave you a headache when you were just trying to eat food. Painting never made you shudder or cry when you read too deeply into it. Painting didn’t give you a glimpse into other people’s goddamn emotions when you were trying not to give a damn!

Sliding down to the ground, Skylie put a hand against her forehead. This morning was already a hellhole, and she’d barely taken a few steps outside.

    She hated people.

The morning's summer light shone in through the poorly curtained windows of Danielle's one bedroom apartment, aiming directly for her closed eyes and hitting them without fail. The brunette groaned in annoyance as she pushed herself up from her previous state of rest, the pale green duvet ruffled this way and that from a long night of tossing and turning. For two years now she had attended this college, and for two years she had ceased to have a good night's rest (unless she had passed out from intoxication). Still, the voices that hung around and toyed with her never did her sleep schedule justice, but luckily her body was now used to the few hours of shuteye it could get. "Just once," She huffed, swinging legs out of bed and trudging to her dresser, "That's all I'm asking for, one full night of sleep, I mean please." Thinking of how crazy she must've sounded, talking to herself all alone, Danielle shrugged off her fruitless hope and continued to get dressed, pulling on worn shorts and a cropped grey tank with a rosy bralette underneath.

Fixing her hair and slapping on a few swipes of mascara, the tawny-eyed girl made her way to the kitchen, pulling down a bowl and half-empty box of cereal while tapping on her phone. Two texts from Katrina, three emails from professors, one confirming her submission for the criminal justice scholarship, and a few game notifications. Nothing too off-putting. Bowl in hand, Danielle walked over to her couch, plopping down and setting her cereal on the coffee table before opening up a new message.

To: Elliot
Ready for the studying to start my dear Eli? Your turn to supply the caffeine.

Ah Elliot. Mr. March. The two had been fast friends their freshman year due to similar study habits. If you could call it that... it was more of a study obsession. Late nights in labs and the library, spent in an exhausted delusion by both parties. Danielle adored her friend, having him over often and listening to his every word, but it wasn't just that that made the girl so keened in on the pre-med major. It was the voice that accompanied him, the one she had done her best to block out when necessary (which was most of the time). Elliot was her friend, one of her best friends, and listening to the moans of his lost mother wasn't something that she was ready to share with him. Munching on her cereal, she awaited the familiar buzz from her phone, flicking on Netflix and proceeding to watch old reruns of Criminal Minds, as usual.

"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it"

Francesca Simmons had hardly been able to sleep for thinking about how her first day of university would be. The young girl had pondered over and over again the many scenarios that could befall her this time around.

She had now been away from her home in Oxfordshire three days and though she was not the sentimental sort, she had to concede that she felt terribly home sick. She missed the quaint upright piano in the dining room and her four poster bed. She missed her father's vintage record player and the sound of The Blue Danube in the morning. It all made her feel safe. It was predictable and routine.

With some trepidation, she managed to coax herself out of bed with the promise of intellectual enrichment. She had heard that their would be festivities for the start of the year, but the prospect of this hardly thrilled her. Still, it would be a chance to meet new people with views that may juxtapose her own, and that was something that always intrigued her.

    ------------

The sight of the university as she stood at the entrance was quite remarkable. Despite her nerves, Francesca could not help being overcome with excitement at all of the historical facts she could learn at the establishment. The young blonde hardly gave much thought to her immediate surroundings as her mind whirred with all the possibilities.

Someone shoved a flyer into Lizzie's hands on her short trek to the bathroom, though she didn't look at it until after washing her hands. Leaning against a dry part of the sink, she read the message, unable to stop a slow sigh from escaping her lips. An end of summer party, eh? Typical. And not necessarily in a bad way, either-- Lizzie just wasn't really a party down south kinda girl. She'd still probably go, though-- if anything, Arin needed someone to make sure he didn't go ballistic if something went wrong. His temper got the best of him more often than not.

Lowering the flyer, she set it on a part of the sink that hadn't been touched by the water yet, for someone else to find. As she turned towards the door, her eyes landed on a sad looking little plant on a little table, something someone had put there she thought to bring some life into the room. It seemed as though it was doing just the opposite, though. The leaves were brown, and the flower had long since lost its petals.

Frowning slightly, she took a few bold steps towards it and reached out automatically, wrapping her fingers around the bud of the flower. Humming a soft tune to herself, she felt the familiar energy-- what else could she call it?-- course through her very veins, out of her fingers, and into the flower. It never ceased to amaze her, watching as her own energy fueled the life force in plants and flowers.

When she left the bathroom, a beautiful fully bloomed red rose stood at attention.

Making her way back to her dorm room, she slipped inside and set to unpacking. She had her own flair in the room already: sheer green drapes on her window that would filter the sunlight beautifully; a leaf-and-vine comforter spread across the bed; her own lily plant set on the table beside the bed. Her clothes would go in the drawers and in her closet, leaving the other side of the room open for a roommate should she have one.

Her and her uncle had only been in this state for roughly a week, attempting to settle in before she had to leave him for University. She did not know what both of them were thinking to move all the way here from Europe. A walking blank slate and her uncle was a reckless leaf in the wind. It was time to start fresh he said. It will be a thrilling experience he said. Yeah, Lenora is still awaiting some thrill to come her way. However, all that is coming was confusion topped with more confusion. She could barely remember how her home town was set, let alone having to learn new surroundings.

Ever since she woke up from her coma, life has been nothing but a spiral of never-ending bewilderment. The female's mind was wiped clean, knowing nothing but her first name. A blank slate. Let's not forget she has been 'blessed' with the world's greatest memory. Not.

Her uncle made sure that his niece was to arrive for her first day on campus and not get lost in the process. That much was achieved as he personally took a cab ride with her all the way to campus to make sure she checked in and was actually in campus before her scholastic terms started. She kept her list to do, replaying in her mind so she would not forget.

    To do list:
    1) Check-in (Done)
    2) Ask for directions (Done)
    3) Have her morning vitamins (Done)
    4) Start heading towards the dorms (In progress)
    5) Settle in dorms
    6) Find time table.

All was going well till she started walking, muttering to herself the directions on repeat. It didn't occur to her that she could have told the receptionist for a written description regarding the directions. Lenora started moving on the cobblestone path that lead towards the presumed was the dorm building. Somehow, she had arrived near the building and halted. However, the issue was that she forgot what she was there for.

The sun was scorching and she could feel it already baking her own pale skin. It was warm alright. Lenora motioned towards the shade nearby a blonde that just rested against the wall. Lenora looked idly as she fidgeted with the charms on her wrist. Trying to remember why she was here.

Victor was up with the sun. He was always wide awake with the sunrise. He never knew why he always wakes up just in time for the sunrise. He just did. His mother used to be the one who woke up with coffee, and breakfast made. It was perfect since she was never was an early person, and he was. She said his father was, and that's when things normally went sour for him. He never liked talking about the man who abandoned him and his mother. Who left his mother a broken promise that she held onto, always saying that he promised to come back. He never did, and he never would. Victor remembers the first time he even met the man who fathered him, he just showed up randomly to his house. His mother smiling and grinning ear to ear with a look pointing at him, saying "I told you, he would come back for us." but then the truth came out. His mother became forever broken, and then lost in that despair, he lost her. He blamed his father for this, that broken promise that he should have never made. The woman who he should have never broken.

He sighed, as he heads to the shower in his dorm room. Victor has been in this school, for the last 3 years. After getting a scholarship with the help from his aunt, he moved away from the place that gave him the best childhood but also the worst tragedy that he had ever had. His father was currently still looking for him, but daily reports from his aunt told him that he was nowhere close to where Victor was. Good, the goddamn bastard could go to hell for all he cares. He walks out the shower, fully dressed and refreshed. He looked at his schedule, seeing his class is soon. He grabs the things, he needed and runs out the door.

Victor heads to the front of the entrance and looked at his watch. He mumbles "I wonder if I have time for a quick food bite?"

The first day she was so looking forward to so she could finally start settling from her big move. Three days ago, Helena moved from England to the states which she was still jet lagged from. She had decided to pursue her dreams in becoming a child advocate attorney, with a twist. She wanted to study abroad. It seemed like a good idea back at the time but now that she was actually in it, the settling period was sure taking its sweet time.

The female was still jet-lagged as heck from the long trip. Helena was never a fan of aviation or sea travel. She always loved her feet touching the safe ground. So the bundle of nerves and agitation rarely socialised during the flight. She was accustomed to it as she was used to travelling alone for the majority of the time. However, during the connecting flight to the states, Helena met a nice younger British female which was seated next to her which they manage to carry out a small chit chat. At least she was not the only one that was starting a fresh slate somewhere else.

Those three days she resided in a small hostel till she had to leave this morning, in hopes to start smoothly. With her belongings, Helena stood on the cobblestone path as the cab that drove her here zoomed right in front of her, honking. The brunette looked at the infrastructure before her. It was simply mesmerising. It looked like a nice area, although there was one crucial aspect that she will miss from back home. The beach that was next to her apartment back home. It was her cup of teas to just lounge there and read if the weather permitted.

As her eyes scanned the exterior, her heterochromic eyes landed on a familiar blonde. A small rush of relief washed over her as she saw the familiar face. Francesca was the name if she recalled correctly. It was the same female that was on the seat next to her on the connecting flight. It was so nice to see a familiar face on the first day. Helena rushed towards her and tapped the blonde's shoulder before smiling, "Good morning, Francesca right?"

Diana was not entirely awake when she took a shower. She wasn't awake when she got up this morning and got dressed. She just not the person that would be up with the morning dew. Her plant, Dena would agree. Dena is a venus flytrap. It was a gift from her adoptive mother, Ruby. The only one to ever know about her gift, to understand plants. Dena and she formed a bond right off. They just understood each other, and it's the strangest thing to say. In the first time in a while, she doesn't feel so alone. She has Dena, and she's very happy with that. She doesn't anyone else then Ruby and Dena.

Dena feelings flow through her and she laughed. "I know you are hungry Dena. Let me just deal with waking up!" Diana grabbed some coffee from the kitchen. She still lived with Mama. It was easier than the cost of dorm living. Her mama was currently at work, as she starts early in the morning and doesn't get home until late at night. Diana knew the only reason that she worked that long is because she was also supporting Diana as well as herself. That thought made Diana feel more guilt, the woman had no biological connection to her but she raised her like she was her actual daughter. More then her actual mother had ever done. Not that she actually knew the woman.

Diana was nothing to the woman who actually gave birth to her. Left her on a doorstep of someone who didn't even want her in the first place. Who at the first chance he had, gave her up to whoever without even a look back at the child he was giving up. She goes to feed Dena, happy emotions flow through her, and she smiled. Yea all she needed was Dena and Mama. After feeding Dena, and grabbing some food for herself. She heads out the door, saying a quick goodbye to Dena. Diana goes into her car and drives to the university entrance. She feels the plants around her, and she closes her eyes trying to not let the emotions overwhelmed her. In her house, with just Dena is fine but outside with every plant trying to convey to her what they feel. Drives her a bit mad.

Well, this is going to be great.

Frost nipped at her nose, a cool touch against her skin. Her entire room was transfigured into a mini make-shift Winter Wonderland. Snowflakes dangling from the high ceilings and transparent crystals surrounding every corner. It was her own interior designing and Aneira couldn't help but feel butterflies everytime she opened her eyes to see the glittering ice.

Over the summer, Aneira did her best to exceed beyond expectations, wanting to take more control of her abilities. Griselda was her rock and was a tremendous help when it came to experimenting and crafting. Although she would never harm someone [ at least intentionally ], covering her room in snow and ice was quite the feat, though still exhausting. However, she was grateful for not having to re-ice the place every few minutes as long as she was in the room. Nowadays she could leave her little igloo up to 4 hours without worrying but, it also depended on the temperature inside her house and outside. Her windows were frozen shut and she liked that. Despite hating an enclosed room with no windows, Aneira felt relief even if the ice melted earlier near the windows than the entire room itself. Natural light still shone in and she was more than satisfied with her creation.

The young woman abhorred the heat and with summer quickly ending, Aneira couldn't be more delighted. She didn't have to regularly use her abilities to keep herself cool. Although her air conditioner was constantly blasting throughout the house, Griselda didn't mind. Even if the guests inquired about the coldness, she always smoothly mentioned to the curious minds that she used to have a Siberian husky so she got used to keeping the temperature low.

If it was anyone other than Griselda who compared her to a snow dog, Aneira would have made the person wish they hadn't uttered a word. But, her threatening those who annoy her into a human popsicle never had any substance to it. Regardless, it was just Griselda. Her person. The one she could depend on.

Time was of the essence and Aneira had said her farewells to Griselda before heading off to campus.

"Text me when you've settled and don't forget your camera!" The elder woman called out after Aneira, handing her the fragile goods before waving her "daughter" goodbye and safe travels.

Classes were beginning once more and Aneira couldn't help but still feel nervousness in the pit of her stomach. It was her second year and boy, did she have a lot she wanted to accomplish! A small grin formed upon her lips as she hoped to see her two favourite boys: Gio and Stefan.

She always liked messing with Stefan and seeing him all flustered just to get a reaction out of him. Although Aneira couldn't formerly remember how they met,, she did remember seeing him by his lonesome at one point. Her eyes glanced at the sketchbook in her hands as she trekked through campus. Although she loved sketching, she definitely loved painting even more, but, she'd never show it to anyone, not even Griselda.

Nevertheless, Aneira couldn't help but think of Gio next and a small laugh escaped her lips. He was such a klutz! But, she enjoyed being with him, playing pranks on unsuspecting victims, even Stefan. However, Aneira wondered if she should just make-shift a snow pillow for him, albeit it isn't as soft as a cloud, but it's close enough to a bubble wrap for his accident prone-ness!

Shaking her head, Aneira sighed, "What do you think they did over the summer, Plue? I know I refused to go outside often, but, it was nice to get some ice cream."

However, as she looked down to see her companion, he was nowhere in sight! Pausing in her steps, Aneira glanced around, "Plue? Plue!" She called out.

Not missing a beat, Aneira began sprinting around the courtyard, frantically looking for her little snowman creation. He should have known better than to go off on his own! But, perhaps Aneira should have recalled the countless times Plue managed to escape right from under her nose: wandering wherever the wind took him. A small groan escaped her lips, "Plue! You're going to melt without me, come back, you abominable snowman!" She frustratedly exclaimed around, knowing she must've looked like a mad woman screaming into thin air.

Searching high and low, Aneira took off into the dorms.

Tap! Tap!

The little creature made his way around the high, long hallways of the dorm, wandering aimlessly. His eyes scanned his surroundings, curiosity piquing as he turned every corner, searching for something or someone. He liked going off on his own adventure, albeit whenever Aneira would find him, his face would have been half melted at that point as his carrot-nose slipped from his snowball face.

Tap! Tap!

Plue continued his small escapade, enjoying himself with the chill air, though it could have been colder. Nevertheless, as he travelled, one out of three buttons fell off but he hadn't noticed it as he was too preoccupied in all his splendour and excitement. He found someone! Without any warning, Plue went and attached himself to the leg of none other than Gio. Caught you!

A few moments later, Aneira heaved and ho, searching aimlessly for Plue. As she turned the corner, she nearly bumped into someone, almost landing on her butt as she quickly lost her balance and footing. "Oof!" Was all she uttered before shaking her head.

Narcissa was not a fan of the mornings. Especially warm, sweaty mornings. The reason was more than evident.

It was her third year in this university and things like nervous first day jitters became immune at this point. However, Cissa was not in a welcoming or friendly mood this morning, or any morning for that matter. She much rather preferred sleeping during the day. She liked to classify herself as quite nocturnal. She loved staying up throughout the night. Apart from that, she did not have much of a choice in the matter. Cissa had this ability that she could understand and go inside the mines of the creatures of the night and just as the sun sets, chaos starts to slowly cloud her mind with million thoughts of such creatures. It could be a huge headache whenever she wants to just be alone.

That being said, heat plus a headache plus a sleepless night equaled to an irritated raven haired female.

The female had already submitted herself in the day before. Hence, she awoke in her dorm. She could already feel the warmth on her skin which cause her to fumble for her glasses to shield her photosensitive eyes from the sunlight. Slipping them on, it was safe, or at least safer to get up and get ready for the day. Hovering to her case, the female looked for something to wear. The choices were not that varied as everything in there was simply black. She had more instrument cases than she had luggage. She only had one that was packed with clothing.

It was that kind of moment where Cissa was struggling between crippling back into bed and say fuck it all or finding the actual energy to face the day ahead. After what felt like a few minutes, the sound of her alarm vibrated through the room once again. It physically hurts to hear it ring through every nerve fibre of her brain. It was time to go out in the light of day. Joy.

Making her way out towards the agonising sunlit path, she heard quiet. The nocturnal creature that plague her thoughts during the night were all sound asleep. Thankfully. Her brain felt fried. If anyone saw her it looked like she was trying to recover from a bad hangover when in reality her head was booming, her glasses were shielding her from the sun but her body was fatigued from the warmth that she was currently absorbing. She skidded towards the entrance by the bushes, sliding along the shade to save her some pain. The female preferred sticking in the background, she sat on a shady bench and took out a few empty music sheets. Hearing the chirping of the birds, the laughter and chatter of other peers. Cissa hummed softly as she started scribbling music notes, tapping the pencil against her knees when idle.
