-ONE YEAR AGO-

The night sky was beautiful. Stars aligned the azure dark violet and blue mesh above. Littered with luminescence from the galaxy and even beyond. Diamond was asleep in her bed, the tolls of that day weighing on her pretty heavily. She was out of school for winter break, and her brother Caleb was home for college break as well, finishing up his Freshman year at university. Their parents Colt and Paula had expressed how proud of him they were, and despite Diamond's stellar A honor roll grades she seemed to fade into the background of her older brother, simply because he was living the life they wanted him to. So they thought. Caleb was a grown ass man now, and she and he both knew he wasn't the man her parents wanted him to be, or she should at least say her father. She knew her mother had at times wanted to express individuality, but remained quiet. Didi remembered Paula telling her she "Understands why he is the way he is", alluding to some dark past event or some shit. Either way, it was no excuse. Had Diamond had kids in her life she'd always push them to be absolutely anything she wanted to be, and of course she'd done the same for Caleb. On his birthdays she's bought him X-Men comics, all the Star Wars movies year after year, the works. She loved Caleb with every fiber of her, and though she was the baby, she would go to major extremes to protect him, even against her parents. So it was that she rebelled as she always does that she argued with them about never being able to get out of the house or do things she'd like, their excuse was that she's still a kid under their roof. Once she mentioned Caleb and how he's grown and should be seen for who he is, that was that. Grounded. The straight A, miss popular was grounded for having a voice.

But that would all change, her voice wasn't the only thing about to become strong.

Clink!

A sharp and precise tap against Diamond's second floor bedroom window caused her to jump up from her sheets. She lie in darkness as the moonlight cascaded through the window, reflecting off her face. She swipes the sheets back and pattered over to the window. She thought it was a bird but it's night. And Montana isn't known for bats. Had it been an owl surely she would've witnessed a crack in the glass. But she inspect her window, and from her peripheral she sees a bright light on the ground below in her front yard. So bright, that you couldn't even see the ground around it. It began to light up the house like a spotlight. "What the hell...?" The 16 year old girl started to grab her phone, and make her way downstairs. She goes as silent as possible not to wake anyone, and upon approaching the front door a hand touches her shoulder as she almost screamed bloody murder, her impulsive punch caught by her brother, Caleb. She sighs in relief. "You scared the shit outta me! Did you see it too? It hit my window." Caleb opens the door, Diamond locking her arms around his free arm, peering over his shoulder as she follows him out. The light makes it impossible to stare at directly, both siblings shielding their eyes. Caleb approaches closer as the light seems to be glowing in the form of some rock.

"Jeeze it's so bright.. it looks like it'll burn your fingers off if you touch it."

Caleb gets up close, eyes still protected as they both lean closer towards it. It seemed to be making no noise of radiance as bright lights tend to do, nor was any heat coming off of it, which was weird. Diamond paid attention in chemistry class, and knew that it's at least supposed to be either thermal or ....nuclear. Diamond pulls Caleb back a bit. "Yo, what if it's nuclear...radiation and all that? Should we wake dad?" Diamond looks at it once more, the luminosity of it too bright to look directly at, but for some reason not hurting her eyes. She relents grip of Caleb's arm and squats down looking away from the rock. She stares at Caleb as she takes a deep breath. "Gonna touch test it." Caleb seemed to be thinking the same thing. They both brace themselves as they extend an arm out towards the light, and...

It wasn't hot. In fact, it made their entire body run ice cold with a shocking jolt that seized all blood and organs it lasted maybe a split second, but in that moment time lasted an eternity. Diamond touched the rock as Caleb did, their eyes going dull as she watched her brother's eyes glow a chromatic hue under exposure to the rock. He would see the same in Diamond's eyes, before both collapsed to the ground under a now hazy and chromatic sky. But even as they were unconscious...there was a tingling as if they were aware. An etch of something... word. Code.

Lock.
Lock.
Lock.

MYr06.gif

It was the last thing they'd see before darkness. And then the bleak lights of the hospital. Their parents hulled over them, doctors and nurses running tests to see that everything was perfectly normal. All neurological, mental, psychological, and physical signs were clean as a whistle. Emotionally however, the turmoil that would follow for Diamond and her brother was unspeakable. The closest thing the medical experts could suggest was synchronous sleepwalking or blackouts. Diamond and Caleb Shepard were speculated as epileptic that day. Colt and Paula found them passed out in the yard the next morning, and their already overbearing protectiveness was only going to get worse. And the rest was history.

History to be shaped and created. Because Diamond and her brother were far from epileptic. They were destiny.

Rain came down among the Shepard Residence, the bleak and cloudy sky leaving a drab aura throughout the house. Was yet another new year of 2018, among the winter break. She was happy school was almost over. She wanted nothing more than to get out of this place. Great Falls was a gorgeous place, beautiful in every way, but her life... her parents, it was more like living under the Third Reich. To be fair, she knew her parents loved her and Caleb deeply, and would die for them... but their translation of that love was more oppressing than endearing. Scribbling of notes can be heard in a silent 2nd floor room. One that was littered with do not disturb signs, but not accompanied with the blaring music or loud TV. Just pure silence. Diamond's room. In it, she scribbles more notes on the recent Dysonium events and things related to it.

Dy - 1.001 (Liquid State)
Dy - 60.005 (Gas State)
Dy - 120.009 (Solid State)

How does it shift atomic mass? Quantum Entanglement + String Theory... Self-Perpetuating element. Sentience / Intelligence / Amoeba Element??
Tachyonic / Dark matter particles?

Dysonium ⥢ Periodic Elements ⥣ Quantum Particles ⥤ Tachyons ⥥ Dark Matter / Energy ⥦ Living matter of the universe?

She continues to scribble. This time flipping to another page in her notebook.

Flight
Waterbreathing / Water control or speed.

Telekinesis
Super strong
Super fast
Super senses
Regeneration
Light control
Mind reader
Psychic

Don't Age?

She then takes the notebook and opens up her closet door, to see a barrage of articles and web printings of all events that should could fit on about Dysonium. She puts the pen on her lips while in deep thought. She then started to write more notes of free ideas that were coming to her head. With an enthusiastic prance, she texts Caleb, who was also home from his next year at college. He was the only one she really trusted with any of it... because what the world didn't know was that the Dysonium changed him that day. They didn't know it then, but over time he started to display... abilities. When they were in the den one night, lights off watching Empire Strikes Back, Diamond thought she was hallucinating, but the shadows were almost moving, forming. Out of a nightmare, they started to gestate and grow ominously. At first it terrified her, but when Caleb caught on and tried to protect her from them... the shadows seemed to soften and move towards Caleb. That was the night that changed their encounter forever. Evolution, miracle, God, heck whatever! From that point Diamond was both in awe and envy of her big brother... leading to her current ambition that's now seen by Caleb as an obsession of Dysonium. Diamond is convinced that she too, must've been affected some way. Caleb sees it as a good thing she didn't get any of these extranatural anamolies, but Diamond felt as though it was bad that she remained normal. They both touched that Dysonium, at the same time. Why did he get all the power juice? Diamond wasn't buying it.

Though, she knew he had a tough time at school. On top of struggling with his insecurities and identity now he had to juggle a newfound gift from humanity, lest the government or CIA come and take him like those damn movies. Diamond wouldn't allow it, and if their parents knew, they'd either ask him to get psychological help, kick him out, or lock him away, hell....maybe all the above. But Diamond knew, there wasn't jack shit wrong with her brother and he was amazing. She just wished the rest of the world saw it too. Including her own fucking family. She was sure he was learning how to cope and control these abilities, but she wanted him to be safe. Even when he tells her of his dates and partying at school, when she asks "were you safe", she's hardly ever referring to condom use, though it is adeptally as important.

SO, I think I know what my abilities could be. What if it's cellular? Like no aging or my blood cures all diseases! How crazy would that be I could make trillions of dollars!! We could leave here and get like five mansions!

Diamond had tried everything under the sun to discover if Dysonium had given her some more than regular feats of nature. For flight, she had gathered some jump pads in gym class and attempted to jump from the top bleachers after school and before soccer practice when no one was looking. When she had swim practice she of course tried her luck with controlling water and breathing in it (almost drowning), or if she could swim fast. Nope. Telekinesis was her starting with small golf balls or pieces of paper, only to realize it was the fan that was making them move. She's tried to lift a car, even when her adrenaline was high (she stole some chips from the store to get her blood pumping and ran out, to be chased by the owner... Caleb still doesn't know about that one.) She also tried to see if she had super speed as well during that adrenaline spike. Nope. She sliced her arm with her house key, and it did not self repair. Her parents thinks it's a war wound from soccer. She made Caleb watch her one time while she tried to control the lights and brightness in the house (thinking she was the light to his dark) but to no avail. She tried to read her brother's, and parent's minds only to be returned a look by her mom that said 'are you high??'. She tried to see in total darkness and ended up hitting her nose on the wall, and her latest attempt was mind control, waving her hands to a teacher like Obi-Wan in Star Wars and saying "You will give me no homework for the rest of the year." In which the teacher responded 'are you high??'. But....she does have dreams. Dreams of chromatic colors and another nagging of something. It's like a voice, but not vocal... more subconscious like. 'Lock.' What the hell does it mean? At first she thought that was her ability, to maybe gain things via dream, but her hopes were dashed when Caleb reveals he shares the same dreams. Sighing to herself, she texts Larisa her good friend who's like an older cousin or sister to her. a message. She then follows up to Lyro, her boyfriend. One that Caleb nor her parents know about simply because her parents would damn her to oblivion for dating the like of a "bad boy." But Diamond saw him for who he truly is, past his lifestyle and antics. She knew she could tame him. Neither Lyro or Larisa know about Caleb or what she went through, Larisa visited her in the hospital during her "epileptic" fit and the two have been close ever since. She didn't meet Lyro until this year of high school, so she wasn't sure what he'd think of her yet had he known her truer interests.

XZraLWka_400x400.jpg

A year ago… a year ago, unimportant as you the reader scroll through the text may be now, the past had held many of the secrets, had been the reason for the actions that would forego in Lyro’s future. The starry night glow outside of Lyro’s bedroom window, a luminescent bundle of light shone through the window as Lyro drew steadily on a piece of paper. His hand seemed to draw unhinged, without control, just scrawling across the page. It wasn’t until he realised what he’d been drawing that he’d registered how much time he'd spent sketching the girl next door, the Shepard girl, Diamond. They were both very popular at school, in the hierarchy Lyro would be classified as a jock, on the most part of varsity teams, he associated himself with fellow athletes, their girlfriends, and their girlfriends friends, leading him to parties and whatnot. Diamond was an energetic, passionate girl that just drew the crowd to her, in spite of them being in a very similar friend group, Lyro had always seen her as out of his league . He smiled at the image for a moment, before sliding the notepad onto his bed, brushing his hands through his thick coily hair as his feet planted themselves onto the floor. Lyro walked slowly towards the window, his hands against the ledge as he looked up at the sky. “Beautiful…” He noted, he would never had said the same thing around an audience. The beauty reflected against his eyes, a sparkle in them that would quickly diminish at the sight of an object suddenly meeting his window.

Instinctively, Lyro had stepped back, raising both arms up in a defense stance as he stared at the window sill. A rock floated barely against the etching of the window, glowing so bright that Lyro had been forced to look way. He peered through the defense his arms had made, peeking at the glowing stone, something had made him very attracted to the object… though he didn’t quite know why. Inching forwards, Lyro extended a hand towards the foreign object, it was painless. He examined his arms, normal for a moment before it appeared a chromatic color. He panicked, ran to his washroom, and vomited continuously into the sink, the ache had stayed with him for days.

It had only been a while after the aches though before Lyro had noticed the sign of… powers..? He was damn sure he was going crazy, he didn’t want to believe it, but there had been no other explanation. Besides the fact that everybody saw it. It had began first at a rep basketball game, his team had been down about twelve points in the fourth, Lyro had been benched for use of profanity and had just been having a bad game all-round. His shots weren’t falling, teammates around him couldn’t facilitate themselves, and so he grew angry. He remembered feeling the flicker in his eyes, the subtle but present shock that went through his head as his team’s points just increased tenfold as he grew angrier. They went up by twenty, forty, sixty, eighty, one hundred before the referees had called a time out. The game had to be postponed due to difficulties with the technology, he knew very well that it’d been him, and that it’d had something to do with that “space rock,” as he’d dubbed it. Then the time when he’d forgotten his phone on the bus on his way from the gym, and had wished he could tell his mother of his whereabouts and why he’d be coming home late. He’d sent the message somehow, having arrived home was when he heard of such news. How? He’d been thinking so hard on the message and sending it to his mother that it’d somehow come to pass, though he couldn’t see the apparent reply from his mother… was it really luck? Or was it that he’d retained some sort of power from the rock… and just hadn’t quite mastered replying texts yet.

In fact, as using his powers frequented, so did a message- a code in his head.

Lock. Lock. Lock.

Lyro pulled up for another shot, elbows bent, shoulders and feet squared to the net. His right hand cupped more of the ball than his left that was mainly for guidance, pushing his right forward as his left hand followed through with it into a jump shot. With a flick of the wrist, the dark orange Wilson ball had left his fingers, soaring through the air before descending into the basket with a swish. The sound of the ovoid object entering the mesh was music to his ears as he jogged forwards, arms extended to grab the ball, a rebound. Lyro had spent most of the evening practicing his basketball, from ball handling to finishing, as well as perimeter shooting. His trainer had left only hours ago when they’d trained with weights and proper gym equipment instead. Now, he only run around the unoccupied gym, wireless earbuds plugged in. A playlist of rap music flowed through, following a couple lyrics every now and then.

He dribbled the ball back up the court, though midway there he’d froze. The irises of his eyes took on a bright blue color, thank God nobody had been there to experience this in effect. Like a pound of meat left out for a wild dog, Lyro could sense something in the area. His phone. He dropped the ball dead, jogging towards the appliance, as a notification had just recently popped up. He’d somehow sensed it… how. The memory of what had happened about a year ago had hit him, though he’d soon drop the matter having realised it’d been a message from the one he'd saved as baby <3, Diamond Shepard. His eyes sparkled again, this time with happiness, someone to distract him from the topic he knew his mind desired to turn to.

"Wyd Lebron wannabe. Thinking of you :P"

Lyro smiled, continuing on his reply. "You're really gonna insult a future nba all-star? and i was just working out, could i come over? :blowkiss:"

The stars were bright, a patchwork of diamonds in the sky above Kara's house. It was winter break, her final year in school almost up. She'd been searching for universities for months now,and she thought she'd found a good one in a town not too far away. A good music program. For now, she was treating her apparently insomnia with some stargazing. She knew this sight wouldn't be available when she moved away. Living in the middle of nowhere did have it's benefits.

Inside the house, the rest of her family was asleep. Well, the family that was still here. One of her brother's had moved to a new town for school, her other had a mechanics job in town. Her father had gone to sleep early, and no one really knew what her grandma did after dark. She disappeared into her bedroom. None of them wanted to bother her. Kara had a good view of her bedroom window from where she was sat (the bed of her father's truck). The curtains weren't drawn, but it was dark inside.

Kara was pulled from her thoughts by a bright flash from the sky. It was blinding, like floodlights had just been turned on, all of them pointed directly at her. She threw up her arms, shouting in protest. No one in her house stirred. The light didn't stop. In fact, it got closer. Something landed on the ground nearby, Kara could hear it. Daring to lower her hands, she looked around. A little way away, half hidden by some trees, the light glowed.

Jumping out the truck, Kara cautiously approached it. Nearby leaves were burning. The fire was much smaller than she thought it should be from a meteorite. That had to be what this was. She quickly left, searching for a stick or something. It took her a few minutes to find one she seemed long enough, and she returned to the crash site.

She reached out with her stick, sweating the light wasn't as bright as before, and pushed what she though might be a rock in the middle of the glow. She was met with some resistance, though not much. Whatever fell couldn't have been big.

A voice echoed in her head. Lock. She ignored it, putting it off to lack of sleep.

Even as she watched, the glow faded and faded until it was gone. The smoldering leaves lit the area a little but, showing a small crater. Nothing was in it. She could have sworn there was something in there. She coughed.

The voice in her head became harder to ignore as a headache built behind her eyes. She reached out to steady herself. Lock. Around her, the world began to spin in weird colours. She felt like she was going to throw up. Her lungs burned. The voice got louder.

Kara didn't know how long it took for everything to return to normal. When she could breath properly again and her vision was still and in regular colour, she found herself on her knees, all the fire around her burned out. Only a small crater remained of the meteorite. She ignored it as she stumbled home, her knees shaking until she collapsed into her bed. She fell asleep instantly, on word filling her dreams: lock.

That was a year ago, back in Kara's home town. Great Falls, Montana, was a different place. She didn't have a house in the woods, her family wasn't there, she couldn't see the stars above, and no dysonium fell from the sky. Kara had figured out that that was what the meteorite had been from the news over the few weeks afterwards. It had apparently landed everywhere. Scientists had a field day, or a field year.

The cafe was quiet today. A lot of the students had left for the holidays and not many other people came in early. Kara's shift would finish before things really got busy. She was staying in Great Falls to finish her practical assignment. She was way behind on it. The teacher wouldn't be there to help over the holidays, though. That might be a problem for her.

Relaxing behind the counter, Kara reached into her apron pocket and pulled out her phone. She scrolled through her texts, looking for someone who might be free and in town. She thought everyone would have gone home for the holidays until she came across Caleb's number and remembered he lived in town. She pulled up their text conversation.

Hey, its kara. You free later today?? She sent.

Larisa Saphet
Thinking back was always a peculiar thing to Larisa. She was always afraid to do it, fearing the events from her past might repeat upon the recreation of them in her head. There were a few exceptions to this belief, and the 'brilliant, unnamed stone' was one of them. She didn't really know why. However, when her thoughts began to wander, they always led her back to that memory. It was like a gentle tug, leading her in the right direction to the memory. The girl had been folding a few pieces of paper, hoping to surprise one of her close friends, Diamond, with an array of colored, paper animals. However, a tingly feeling swept her body and her eyes were flooded with a light that bounced off of every wall in her bedroom.

She was dazed as it disappeared as quickly as it had come, but an overwhelming urge to investigate came over her. Promptly, she peered out the window, located the general spot of the light, and hurried down the stairs of her home. Her footing was familiar, and she had practiced traversing the staircase to the point of avoiding all the creaky steps that were trademark for any staircase. Opening the front door with her pjs and slippers on, she stepped cautiously closer. Her arms instinctively raised to block out the light, but she made her way closer despite this. Upon finally arriving at the brightest point of the source, she reached out to possibly stop the light. To maybe allow her to look at it. But when she touched it, she felt every hair she had stand on end, and a shiver shot through her. She could not see her own eyes, but they almost pulsed with color. She felt her legs give out as the force, no, feeling throbbed through her. An echo came with it. Lock, lock, lock... Over and over, filling her mind with the numbing tingling she had felt as the object landed. Then, it all went black. The night sky was the last thing that filled her vision, a stray cloud floating peacefully along it.

Her aunt found her, but did not take her to the hospital. She simply scolded Larisa for falling asleep outside, and was on her way. Larisa, on the other hand, barely spoke. What was she supposed to say after an experience like that? However, a few days went by and she began feeling her life return to it's routine. The special encounter lost its previous luster, and Larisa relapsed into daily life. Although, that was before the incident. It had been a few weeks since she had her chance encounter; she was cooking breakfast, like she would any morning. Just then, however, a baseball smashed through the window that was to the left of Larisa's head.

Without thinking, she raised her arms up and braced for impact... But none came. She looked down curiously. There the ball was, on the ground, at her feet. So it didn't go past her... But it also didn't hit her? Perplexed, she moved to grab the ball; as she did so, her eyes strayed to her arms and she paused in fear. There was some kind of... Presence. Around her arms. She could feel it. Blinking with concern, she grabbed the ball absentmindedly and tentatively touched her arm with a finger. She could feel her finger, but... A haunting idea came to her, and she shakily tried touching the ball to her arm. It refused, as if she were trying to push two like sides of a magnet together.

And that's when it started, her discovery. She was tentative to try it at all; but, she noticed that, over time, she began to be able to figure out what caused the presence. Danger, mostly. She even had some mild control over it, but she refused to do too much with it. The very idea of the 'presence' scared her. Also, the fact that it only started happening a few weeks after encountering the 'brilliant stone' was enough evidence to convince her that the thing she had touched that day had something to do with what she could now do.

Nowadays, Larisa had decided to keep her strange 'thing' a secret. The last thing she would want is mass panic or alienation from her friends, haha... She felt herself shiver at the thought, but distracted herself with her phone soon after. She was just about to send a text to Diamond when she got a message from her. Larisa felt a smile tug at her lips at Diamond's invite. It was casual, but she was glad she was even invited at all. Contentedly, she replied back.

One year ago...

15180492942003601.pngAs much as he may try, Caleb can never forget what happened to him and Diamond a year ago. He'd returned to his family home for the college break and had been spending time with his sister. She would usually buy him some comics and sci-fi movies, so when he was back home it had been no exception. Caleb remembered watching the Star Wars film with a disinterested expression on his face, whilst in the back of his mind he was deep down enjoying it. It was like revisiting pieces of nostalgia from years ago - parts of himself that had long since been shut away in the past. Soon enough, he reminded himself it all belonged in the past. As grateful as he had been for the comics his sister bought for him, he knew he shouldn't indulge in them again. Everyone else had an idea of who Caleb should be and they liked the version of him they'd grown accustomed to. To change would threaten to disrupt his life.

Caleb had been unable to sleep that night, so had been chatting with some friends online and reading up on diet plans for a tricky client he'd taken on. That was until he heard movement outside his room which prompted him to investigate and find Diamond sneaking out the front door. He startled his sister, causing her to punch him in the arm and force him to stifle his laughter so "the parents" didn't hear them. He'd rolled his eyes when she mentioned something hitting her window and decided to indulge her by joining her outside. That's when they saw the glowing rock. Caleb's curiosity got the better of him and he touched the strange rock. The ice cold shock and jolt was still memorable now, as was seeing Diamond's eyes glowing. He was sure the whole thing knocked him unconscious, but he distinctly remembered the word "lock" repeatedly stuck in his mind.

That was when everything changed for him and once again, he was forced to hide a part of himself. If people thought he was weird and stupid for being a geek, then they were sure to label him a freak if they knew what had happened to him that night. Ironically, this was something else he would have to lock away.

Present day...

hjgv.pngAs much as his parents got to him at times, Caleb quite liked returning home during the breaks. His nearby student apartment was good for parties and bringing girls back, but it was good to get away from there once in a while. To not have to act so much for all of his peers. Besides, he enjoyed seeing his sister and knowing he didn't have to put on an act around her. Although, she was still obsessing about that whole Dysonium rubbish and he wished she'd put it to rest so she could focus on real-life. Perhaps even get herself a boyfriend - one he would be willing to interrogate on her behalf beforehand.

Diamond knew about the changes Caleb had undergone following last year's strange occurrence. As he developed a slight intolerance for bright lights and felt at his best in darker conditions, he knew something wasn't right. He tried to inhibit the changes he was noticing and pretend his acquired abilities weren't there at all. It was one night when he and Diamond were watching a movie that his ability truly showed itself. Caleb had been part enjoying the film and part hoping his father wouldn't walk into the den to see them. The last thing he'd wanted was a confrontation with his father after he'd put on this act for so long now. It appeared his anxious state had caused him to subconsciously generate the creeping shadows that had scared his sister. He'd rushed to protect her but something about the shadows felt so natural to him. He was able to command the darkness to soften and revert back in towards him.

Despite how natural commanding the shadows may have felt, Caleb didn't wish to accept his powers. Whatever this curse was, he knew it needed to be kept a secret. He couldn't let everyone see him as a freak and once again be bullied, rejected or even persecuted. He simply had to inhibit his abilities.

Caleb had just finished delivering personal training to one of his female clients when the text from his sister came through. He couldn't help but frown when he read it was more talk of abilities and Dysonium. He said a quick bye to his attractive client before deciding to reply to Diamond.

Diamond

SO, I think I know what my abilities could be. What if it's cellular? Like no aging or my blood cures all diseases! How crazy would that be I could make trillions of dollars!! We could leave here and get like five mansions!
me
Or what if you don't have an ability? There's nothing wrong with you.
me
If you could cure people you can forget being rich. You'll be sliced up and tested on like a rat. I prefer my sister in one piece.

After a quick shower and change into some regular clothes, Caleb decided to head to the family home for a bit though he wasn't sure he wanted to stay in all evening. His parents grated on him at times and he wasn't in the mood for holding his tongue with his father this evening. As he was about to leave the campus gym, Caleb received a text message from Kara:

Aldrich was tired. At least that was what he was sure he was feeling. It was a logical feeling. He had spent much of the morning working hard to move into his new apartment, setting up his office, getting to know the people he would be working with for the remainder of the year. He supposed all those things would coalesce in a feeling of tiredness. That was his feeling. His alone. Well... not entirely. He was sure some of the other people in the room felt tired as well. A quick look around confirmed as much. He had come upon the cafe-cum-bar a few days ago when looking for a late night drink. The music was mild, the people even-tempered and the drinks of a high quality. Mix that with an eclectic mix of furniture which only matched in that none looked quite like anything else in the room, and the deep red walls reflected in the crystalline chandeliers and opulent mirrors - and one had a decidedly calm atmosphere, conducive to creativity and polite discussion. Puccini would be proud.

The patrons seemed to either be sitting alone, nursing a whiskey and reading some or other obscure novel - or leaning close to another, sharing headed whispers over a bunch of notes and warm exotic tea. The former ones tended towards tiredness... so it might be them? Aldrich sat back in his chair and sighed - taking another sip of his whiskey. He knew he had gotten a 'superpower'. He had known for more than a year now. At first, he thought he was going crazy - feeling vast plumes of elation, followed by unexplainable bouts of depression. Fearing bipolar disorder he started reading up on it - only to find that while the high's and low's between Depression and Mania were great - they were stable in themselves. Well... mostly. And while experiencing these shifts in emotion, people would normally embrace them, not observe them in themselves. It felt an intrusion into his mind, rather than something originating from it. Over time he realised that these emotional changes were dependent on the room - who, what, when, where and why. If he felt elated... someone else was as well. If he felt depressed... it only took a few moments to spot the clear signs in someone else.

Realising this, the first thing he had done was get on a bus and travelled to the nearest forest. Keeping clear tabs on what he ate, read, heard, dreamt - he finally found himself in the middle of some seldom visited part of the world - completely alone, and finally - free of that feeling of psychic invasion. He felt himself again... and he felt lonely. Slowly he made his way back, staying in small towns first, then doing day trips into cities - then staying there for a week - before finally finding that he could clearly sense the difference between others and himself. Most of the time. But when the feelings were general... or common. Things like tiredness, or apathy, or grief, or lust - he sometimes found it hard to figure out where it was coming from. Which was why he liked this bar. The people here seemed to be very much like him. Quiet. Reflective. Not prone to overreaction. He could feel himself among them... for even if he was borrowing what they felt - it reflected what he would have felt anyway.

It was nearly evening already - at night the cafe atmosphere gave way to something more akin that of a bar - sometimes offering live music or private lectures. Which he liked as well. It meant he needed to eat before the students arrived though. He raised a hand and one of the servers came over - a charming young thing he might have seen in the psych department. She smiled at him, and he was delighted to find the charm and professionalism she projected to be authentic. No undue flirting for a tip. He could appreciate that. He ordered a light meal for himself, along with another two fingers of whiskey - before taking out a book - settling in, and starting to read. Tomorrow he would actually need to start working - so best to enjoy the free time he had until then.

[just an opening post - to get into the mood of the char. OPEN for interaction - but otherwise will find a way to interact by the next morning]

--to me that this Dysonium is the new Oxygen! Humanity wants it! Needs it! Craves it! Scientists are aptly baffled at how its atomic properties are able to increase and decrease seemingly to certain exposures, but what's known it this... It's the lightest liquid, almost densest gas, and the heaviest solid. How is that even possible? The meteorite that fell mainly hit Australia, projected over 90% of Dysonium lies in The Outback right now, but what about the other 10%? That little bits and pieces that fell throughout the world? We're talking 30 million dollars for just A GRAM. It's rare to find. Any apparent pictures or traces of it the Dysonium just vanishes! Australian Intelligence will not tell us what's happening over there or what they're doing with it. You see the satellite images of the bright lights from space, that's the point in Australia where they're covertly keeping the Dysonium to themselves... but why?

So you believe the Dysonium to be both a miracle and a threat?

Yes, I believe that this element operates on an entirely different set and laws of the universe than us, we could even discover that it's bending time and space around it to shift mass and atoms, but in the wrong hands aka bureaucrats, this could very well turn into a privatized attempt at gaining resources for fiscal purposes, as opposed to helping this world unlock its full potential--

BUZZZZZZZ!

Diamond shuts the CNN Interview off via YouTube on her laptop and checks her phone to see Caleb replied. She peers down to her notepad, more of a checklist as the next task on her unchecked things to do was New Dysonium Exhibit at CM Museum. Her focus melts into a look if indifference with a slight annoyance at her brother's words. She then checked her messages from her other friends, and knew just the thing to get out of the house. Of course they wouldn't know it was a sly attempt to advance her research and cater her obsession, but she just simply had to know. What better way to do it than with friends?

Be there in 5.

She sends her text messages off and equips her denim hoodie and ties her hair in a bun. She grabs her phone and pops on Spotify before gathering her notebook and placing it inside her backpack. She also adds her charger, and places her pocket book in a side slot of the bookbag, heaving it over her back as she starts to Lyro's house down the street. He was technically her next door neighbor, their house separated by a cluster of pine woods. She heads downstairs and down the steps, her parents both gone and at their perspective jobs. She listened to the silence that went through the house, and looked at the corner of the den where Caleb's power first manifested. Slowly, she walks over to it while clutching her backpack. She reaches her hand out for the corner, brushing her fingers against the surface. She didn't feel anything. The trauma both amazing and gripping still replayed in her head from that night. She closed her eyes as her palm rested on the wall, she wanted to feel something... anything. She focused towards nothing and everything. But still silence.

"Ugh, shit."

She leaves the house and locks the door behind her. The mild drops of rain felt more like a misty breeze to her than anything. She raised her hood over her head and began to walk down the trail of the street. Lyro's house could be seen in the near distance. The speculative imagination of Diamond continued to run, as she passed the pine woods on the way to Ly's house she could only glare at them, while silently trying to will the trees to move, bend, break...something. They only waver a tad with the wind. Diamond upsets herself even further by the lack of reaction from the trees. She could mark tree/earth bending off her list. She finally approaches the house, not knowing if Ms. Washington was home or not. When she didn't see Lyro's car, she huffed internally.

Ly <3

Let me guess... the gym again? Could've told me Lyro. Ugh. Larisa is going to pick me up so I'll just be walking alone until that happens.

Thought you were working out at home...

Her apparent guilt trip was not intended, rather she was feeling a bit lonely. Too introverted to stay housed in her imagination for too long. This whole not being special thing was really getting to her. She played music in her earphones as she walked back down the street and just decided to draw in her notepad on her front porch, under the front roof as rain fell from the sides. She started to draw without a thought of what she was drawing, and before she knew it...the entire page was filled with one word over and over. Lock. She looks at the page and sighs, wondering what the hell it all means. Then an idea in that genius brain of hers. What if the lock is her? She just has to find what to unlock?? For Caleb maybe it was shadows or darkness... because he was living in a shadow of himself!? Because he was in his own darkness!? Diamond looked like a crazy person pacing back and forth on the porch, thinking to herself like a mad scientist. That means she had something in her to be unlocked. She started to smile in joy of this assumed yet unproven notion. Her hopes were high.

"Okay let's see... I'm a soccer player and I swim but I like all crowds... so like an athletic nerd? Cuz I'm smart too so maybe like yin yang? No DiDi go deeper than that. Caleb has deep darkness so maybe... it's about what's deep within. Okay, honesty time. I hate it here. I feel like a prisoner, I want to leave all the time, I rebel because my dad is a dictator, and from that I feel repressed. Like I take everything inward and I just want to... unleash it sometimes... so maybe I get stronger the more angry I get?"

Diamond then closes her eyes and focuses. All the years of watching her brother fade away with identity, and her parents thinking it was okay. The years of her trying to have a voice to be shut down. Her brother having gifts but not her... it made her so very upset... but she was so aloof that she couldn't even tap into her real feelings at times. She willed herself to be mad, balling her fists up and breathing heavily. She opened her eyes with a scowl on her face. She looked at the brick wall beside her connecting to the door, and with an impulsive act, she palm strikes the brick with a cautious but forceful strike. She felt the brick dig in her skin and the impact shake her wrist at the bone, not painful but debilitating a bit. She shakes her hand from the impact, discouraged yet again from the lack of manifestation. She grunts to herself, and sits back down on the porch.

Above her, a bit of dry paint from the underceiling of the porch falls downward as it proceeds to rain. She waits for Larisa in submission, a bit down that she was probably just normal.

It was a surprise when Caleb replied to Kara's text almost immediately. It's not that she expected him to not reply, but the idea of people having their phone on hand and not on silent was really a foreign one to her. She kept her phone on silent at work and just forgot to turn the sound back on when she left. The amount of times she'd been plugging her phone in to charge and found texts from hours before was too often for her to remember and not be ashamed. At least that wasn't going to happen now.

Caleb

Hey, its kara. You free later today??
them
I don't know. I was thinking of seeing if anyone was up for drinks. Lots of drinks! What have you got planned?
me
Just work. My shift ends in five ten minutes tho. Where do you want to meet??

She slipped her phone back into her apron pocket as she heard the door open behind her. Her manager was back from break. She didn't particularly like phones being used during shift, which was fair enough when the shop was actually busy. It was dead as a doornail now. Or, at least, Kara had though so. She looked up from her phone to see a man sat at one of the tables on the shop floor, a man she recognised as a teacher at the university, though she wasn't sure exactly who he was. Maybe she should have been paying more attention at school.

Seeing a teacher in the cafe at this hour was an odd sight, though not one she couldn't reconcile. It was close to the campus, pretty good value, and the food was decent. That what probably what they were going for, targeting poor and lazy students. Kara didn't really buy much food from here. She got some stuff for free when she worked the last shift of the day, but she found that the food wasn't really to her taste. She still took it. Saying no to free food was crazy. That was one of the first things her brothers had taught her when she decided to leave her home town. It was good advice when the food wasn't being offered by weirdos.

Kara stepped out from behind the counter, walking over to the man's table. Her boss watched her for a second, but went back to whatever she'd been doing previously.

"Hello, sir. Can I get you anything?" She asked, spinning a pen between her fingers in one hand and holding a notepad in the other.

Lyro

"I would never hurt her."

Lyro dropped his phone for a moment, removing his shirt as to allow the air onto his skin. His sweat-filled glands had been crying to be freed after the exercise, and seemed to be glad at the newfound air against them. Sliding his hands into his duffle bag, he’d pulled out a towel, swinging it over his bare skin. Immediately, the fabric licked away at the liquid on him as he grabbed the phone once more with a free hand, he hadn't sensed the notification this time. He questioned whether or not he'd actually been hallucinating the whole time. Wait, no, he wasn’t going to go over this, not again. With a quick shake of the head, Lyro set his insecurities aside as he looked down towards the phone, halting his train of thought as a newer convoy left the station.

"Working out eh? I'll do one better. Coming to you. I'm leaving in a bit anyways."

"Be there in 5." She added.

Lyro smirked, he hadn't had a chance to talk to Diamond in person all day. He'd been missing the pretty face showing up to entertain him. Before he knew it though, a subtle beep from the phone alerted him of another message. Quirking a brow, he turned to receive the last of Diamond's texts.

"Let me guess... the gym again? Could've told me Lyro. Ugh. Larisa is going to pick me up so I'll just be walking alone until that happens."

"Thought you were working out at home..." His shoulders dropped.

He'd forgotten to tell her which gym he was in, and instead left her outside his home. Glancing back towards the window of the gym, he could see the rain beating down in the gloomy whether. Lyro really hadn't meant to inconvenience her, and would never have purposely bothered Diamond. He felt the guilt like a sword to the gut, biting his lower lip as he stroked his hair once more, an act he performed whenever he felt nervous or anxious. Ly quickly sorted through the black duffle bag that lay on the bench in front of him, pulling out a jet black leather jacket. It flowed with beautiful, elegant etching, glossier than the rest of the leather jacket. Lyro slid the jacket over his skin. He quickly grabbed the phone and a bottle, hopefully another text would come in from Diamond. To clear all this out; that she was having just a really dreary day. Sprinting off of the court, he pushed the metal door of the gym open, tossing his gym card onto the counter towards one of the clerks, Mario. A great friend of his from highschool, Mario was a latino male of his age, spiky brown hair and a boxed face. He was a lot more muscled than Lyro, and held a spot on most varsity teams as well. "Watch this for me, bro. If I'm not back in forty, pack my stuff up and drop it off for me tomorrow, 'kay?" Not waiting for a response from the man, Lyro continued on towards the entrance, using his forearm to push open the glass doors of the complex.

The rain immediately began beating down on the jock, quickly berating himself for his choice of clothing. A leather jacket, a pair of shorts and his favourite pair of Lebron's were all he had on as a source of serviceable clothing. Quickly scanning the parking lot, Lyro's eyes fell on his car, a 2016 mid-sized Nissan Altima. Making his way towards the full black vehicle, Lyro pulled his keys out from his jungle of a pocket in his jacket, the lights of the car blinking to life as he pulled the door open. He'd disregarded the use of seat belts, just getting to Diamond was his only goal right now. Starting the ignition, Lyro slammed his foot down on the pedal, accelerating the vehicle as it burst out of the lot, drifting to a turn before making it's way onto the main road. He'd even caught a glimpse of Mario standing mouth-gaping by the complex door, painting a smile on his face. Now on the road though, Lyro's hands tightened around the wheel, pushing his legs harder on the pedal in hopes of it making the vehicle move, even a slight bit faster than it already was. The gym wasn't too far from his house with the way he was driving, though neither was an injury or accident, matter of fact. With only a couple minutes on the road.

Lyro could hear the talking of someone in his head. Who? A quick glance to the back of the vehicle, he turned back, firming his hands against the wheel once more. What was going on? In the mirror above, he could see the faint blue of his irises, cursing under is breath. What sort of delusion was it this time? Had it been a drug that caused all this? No, unlikely, nothing lasts that long in your system, he knew that. He just didn't want to believe that he was any different, a mutate or something. Without a thought though, screaming filled his head before his eyes returned onto the road, then he began screaming. He'd passed a red light on his need for acceleration, and whilst doing that, another car could see his from their point of view on the lane that was supposed to be moving. Forcing a hard break, Lyro's car whirled to a right, barely grazing the opposite car before he continued down. His heart was racing, sweat running down his cheeks as his head now filled itself with a string of profanity, it was a man's voice. How was he reading the mind of a man? How was he reading someones's mind, period? Lyro checked his irises once more, the blue fading once more. He cursed, Diamond couldn't know. He would never know how she'd react, no, he did, she'd freak.

Coincidentally, Lyro had just neared their neighbourhood, slowing down the vehicle as he turned into the crescent. He could see Diamond from afar, seated on her porch with a note pad in hand. She wasn't drawing though, just thinking. He could see that. Pulling the vehicle to a stop by the curb, he looked up to her parents' room lights, yes, he'd already had her estate mapped out. With the lights out, he hoped they weren't home as he stepped out into the rain, jogging towards the porch whilst he began conversation.

"What's Einstein doing sleeping on her porch?"

He asked with a short laugh. "And by the way, I'm sorry. Should've told you," He glanced down at her wet hair and clothing with a frown. "I'on't want my girl getting wet without me." Lyro added with a smirk as he held a hand out for her. "Plus I beat Larisa to you."

Caleb hadn't gotten far when he found himself replying to his sister and Kara. He sat in the entrance area of the gym so he could write back to them, but not before putting a pair of shades on to cover his eyes for a time. Something he'd noticed since developing his abilities was he'd picked up an intolerance to prolonged bright lights and the lights in some parts of the gym were pretty intense. He was sure the minor headache would shift itself, as it usually did. He was distracted from his phone as Nick, one of the other trainers, tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.

"I hate to break it to you, but it's dull and wet outside. I'm not sure you need the shades," Nick remarked. "Give me a text when you fancy going for that jog," he suggested, before heading outside.

"Yeah, I will do..." Caleb replied, ignoring the mentions of his eye-coverings. Thankfully, he didn't have to make up some story about persistent migraines or other ailments to avoid telling the truth about being a freak as Nick was in a hurry. He sighed before continuing to reply to Kara.

Caleb then saw Diamond's reply and she was trying to reassure him he wasn't a freak. They'd had this conversation many times before and it always went this way. He knew she meant well, but she wasn't affected in the same way he was that night. She was still a normally functioning human being without some creepy, weird darkness surrounding her. The darkness that seemed to obey him and bend to his will. He could only assume whatever had happened to him was bringing out all that was rotten within him and he had to keep that hidden from everyone else. People only liked the Caleb they wanted to see.

Caleb eventually left the gym, still wearing his shades, before he walked to the cafe to meet Kara. Once he was there, he waited outside the building for her to end her shift and join him outside.

Larisa Saphet

Idly toying with the brim of her shirt, Larisa waited patiently for a text back. She had quite the tolerance for time, and felt no frustration when there was no reply. In the meantime, she had started organizing the different stuffed toys she had lined up on her bed. She liked to mix up how she ordered them, ordering them by color, then by name, now by size. It was kind of her guilty pleasure, some might say. Really, though, it was because she didn't have the heart to abandon them... Sighing, she deserted her task right as Diamond sent her a text back.

Larisa's hands eagerly found her phone, and tried grabbing it. The phone pushed away from her fingers. It was like some force was pushing the device away from her hand... Larisa felt like she'd been struck by lightning, quite suddenly, and recoiled. She held her hand as if it were an alien, despite it appearing completely normal. She could've swore, there was some kind of shimmering around it.

As it appeared to die down, her nerves settled a bit. This was fine. Hiding this condition of hers was... Probably for the best. No one must know. She'd be outcast from her friends, everyone would see her as some kind of freak... The shuddering that proceeded the thought was unintentional, but appropriate to Larisa. Trying again to grasp the phone, she was more successful this time. Her nerves melted away as she read Diamond's text, and she felt herself fluster a little. Jeez, Diamond didn't have to tease her like that...

Diamond

H-hey! It's not like that... I was just curious... =^=
me
Alright, that sounds good to me. I'm not doing anything else after all -w-
me
Mhm! Be there in a few .3.

For a few moments, she considered her strange fondness of emoticons. Maybe she should stop? Contemplating this for a bit, she discarded the thought. Her messages would appear strange to her if she didn't have the little faces. Directing her attention to the door, she sighed as she realized she'd have to go out in the rain to get to her car. Slipping on her favorite pale blue raincoat, she hurried out to her car and started it with little trouble.

Everything seemed to be going fine, so that was good... Quickly, she reversed and started on her way to Diamond's. It didn't take her too long, as Diamond only lived a few blocks away. However, she somehow got there second. Her eyes narrowed as she looked to see who it was; and, lo and behold, it was Lyro. Had she invited him too? She wasn't opposed, obviously, but she was a little surprised.

Pulling up behind his car, she blinked and saw Diamond doing something with her notebook. Oh, and Lyro was approaching her. He looked worried. Immediately Larisa felt the need to comfort her friend and jumped out of her car. They appeared to be in the middle of their conversation though, so she stayed at a distance for the moment. She did hear the remark about him beating her, and she raised an eyebrow. "Only barely..." she muttered under her breath, feeling a little bad that she hadn't gotten there first.

Kara wasn't sure if she preferred busy or empty shifts. Busy meant more work, in every aspect. More serving, more coffee making, more dealing with rude customers. At the same time, it seemed to be over so much faster than an empty shift. An empty shift just consisted of waiting and waiting and waiting. There were jobs you could do, but you had to be careful you didn't get too distracted from anything. Finally, her shift was over. It was a relief. At least at home she could do nothing without being bored. It was odd like that, not that she would do nothing. She had a lot of studying for her course, and a practical to catch up on.

She waved bye to her manager as she folded her apron into her bag, checking her phone again. She had another message from Caleb, just agreeing to meet outside the cafe. The message wasn't too old, just a few minutes, so chances were he wasn't waiting outside yet, or hadn't been for very long. After taking a minute to put a earphone in and pull on her jacket to help against the rain, she left through the back, quickly walking round to meet Caleb out front. Turns out he had arrived.

"Hey there," She called, pulling her hood up to protect her hair from the rain. It took forever to get dry. She took him in, trying to figure out what he'd been doing. His clothes were normal, so there was no obvious signs he'd been working at the gym. Since he got here so fast, it was a possibility. The sunglasses he was wearing were odd. "Already hungover?" She joked, chuckling to herself. As soon as she said it, she realised maybe it wasn't the best thing to say.

Kara did that a lot. She wasn't amazing in social situations, but she'd learnt through copying others. Mapping out interactions was easier for her. This question needs this answer, this greeting goes with this setting, etc. She'd lived like that for a long time. Whenever she did anything that didn't fit into the map she'd made, it felt like it was wrong. That was part of why she found it so hard to make friends. Talking to them was hard, and a lot of them found her weird when they first met her. Caleb was willing to spend time with her, and she wanted to protect that, so she tried to smooth over the joke with a small smile.

Time: Late Afternoon
Location: La bohème - A Cafe/Bar Near Campus (Inspired by my favourite bar) ---- CM Russel Museum
Mood: Contemplative, Intrigued, Lonely

Aldrich paid for his drinks and made his way outside. Having nibbled on his food for only a few minutes, he heard about a new exhibition - which incidentally had something to do with that most sought-after of materials - and suspects in the boom of super powered humanoids. Naturally, his curiosity could not be sated with mere whispers - and as such, he quickly left the cafe, giving a passing beggar the leftover foods, as he made his way towards the museum. The brisk walk did him some good as he took in the fresh air and the enthusiastic faces of the students meandering about the place. He could feel their keen attitudes and giddy excitement - and he almost felt it invade his own rather sombre mood. It was not that he was sad... or even felt discontent. But when seeing all of them walking around, eagerly whispering in each other's ears, holding hands, sharing quick kisses on the go - he had come to realise that he was lacking that feeling of mutual fulfilment. It was a rather awkward feeling, considering that for most of the time he barely noticed it. Only when feeling so keenly due to another, did he realise how lonely he could sometimes feel.

He sighed as he continued to walk on, hands in his pockets - his dark shades keeping the residual light out of his eyes. He was only feeling a faint level of breathlessness slowly creeping up on him when eventually he reached the museum. The building was, by any standard, a marvel. Beautiful to look at, and well funded from various patrons of the arts and sciences. As the museum was so close to the University, they often had courses linked to the museum, often offering extra credit for essays written on current exhibitions and such. With that being the case, the fact that he had a teachers pass, allowed him to quickly slip past the side of the building, and into the staff entrance. According to the History department's head - this was one of the few perks of being a lecturer here. Aldrich supposed he could get used to it.

He moved through the sparse crowds, before eventually reaching the area where the exhibition was set up. He only managed to stay there for a few minutes before rushing out towards the further parts of the space - the sheer amount of excitement and curiosity becoming a bit much for him. Deciding to wait for them to move on first, he found himself a nice bench, which overlooked one of the older exhibits - where he made himself comfortable. He could wait here for a while. In the meantime, he enjoyed reading through a pamphlet he had snagged earlier upon entering the building. He was already quite well read on the subject - as it had so clearly affected him already - but it was always good to be sure of one's facts before learning something new.

Diamond sighs after what seemed like endless moments in the rain, looking like some sad vixen in one of those music videos about love or lost romance. Her hip buzzes to see the messages from Larisa, making her chuckles just only slightly. She sits underneath her porch as she stares at the notebook with the same scribbled word on it over and over again. It was when she heard the breach of audio that she snapped out of her trance. The sound of an engine, at first thinking it was Larisa, but upon seeing the black Nissan, she both pepped up and wallowed. She didn't want to be at the house, but she was at least relieved to know that Lyro was willing to come be with her, despite him knowing her inner machinations of esteem clashing with one another. He jogs up commenting about her indolence of action, but before she said anything, she zipped his leather jacket up, to conceal the chiseled body that was underneath. He apologizes in the way that Lyro does and Diamond rolls her eyes, before relenting just a mild smirk to her boy toy. She takes his hand as he helps her up, immediately thinking to close her notebook and hide it from his eyes. She takes his hand and lifts up into a small peck on the lips, using the time as a distraction to close her notebook.

"Yeah well at least Larisa wouldn't leave me high and dry. And I saw you looking to see if my parents were home, behave yourself mister. I'm rebellious, but not that rebellious. So, Are you going to walk me to your car now?"

Her voice was detached but also compassionate underneath the surface. She waits for Lyro to escort her into the Nissan as the rain falls down. Her hood was up and she quickly spotted Larisa shortly thereafter, and threw her notebook into her back pack. Once Larisa came up, she looks over at Lyro, trying her best not to think about her current lows of the day. She hugs Larisa and smiles at her comment of only barely being beaten out by Lyro. She then turns to her boyfriend with a hap like smirk on her face.

"Larisa and I are going to go to the museum. Just to hang out, and there's this new exhibit that I wanna check out. But anyways, how was the gym? Get a good workout in? Oh by the way... you leave out with your body showing like that again we are gonna have a problem. You already have a fan club of girls trying to--"

Diamond's words stopped. Instead her mind went to another place. She blanked out for a minute, trying to talk over the internal coding. Lock....lock....lock. She stammers for a split second before completely changing subjects on Lyro. She uses her cunning to try and turn the small fright into a moment of affection and ventilation of the interior emotions that has plagued her throughout the day. "Uhm.. sorry. I guess I'm just really blah today you know? I don't mean to take things so grimly."

Her phone buzzed as she received a text from Caleb, and of course it was the same old story. She lifted the screen to her eyes to see a routine of banter from her big brother. Don't change, stop obsessing. Rinse and repeat. She involuntarily sighs at her brother's text, really feeling perturbed that he didn't empathize with her need to feel special like him. She knew that she was special without abilities or not, she just wanted to be apart of something greater, and who better with than the brother she'd stick her neck out for? Diamond knew Caleb didn't understand. He probably thought it was about having abilities and being cool. No, she wanted them so Caleb didn't have to be alone, that they could truly be together in something and not divided by the words of their family or the opinions of man. She shakes her head and pockets her phone, knowing Lyro and Larisa both sees her clearly upset. She waves it off as minor. "It's nothing, I'm fine. Just my brother. Anyways, can I ask you guys something? Why do you like me?... like what about me as a soul makes you drawn to me? I guess.... okay like, if you were walking down an endless hall of doors, and the doors represented other people you could've chosen to be cool with, what is it about my door that made you want to, I should say open my... lock?"

Diamond started towards Larisa's car, wondering about the responses of her close peers. As she slides into the passenger seat, she open her arms for Lyro to embrace her into a hug. "You should shower. Then if you're up to it join us at the museum." Diamond wanted just a bit of girl time with her and Larisa, she never ever minded the company of Lyro, but Larisa she hadn't had much time with lately, mainly it being Diamond's fault. She'd been so caught up in trying to discover the truth behind the extranatural abilities of her brother and the link to Dysonium. She could only imagine the shifted complex of her friend if she found out Diamond's secret, or rather hers and Caleb's. She knew the girl had a huge crush on her brother, which was why in a way she felt like a sister, but the cold hard truth was she wasn't family. She had to be kept out the loop. As Larisa pulls off, Diamond winks at Lyro as they head on the way to CM Museum. They listen to music as the song ends. The Radio host then mentions the words Dysonium, and Diamond's focus darts to the radio, almost impulsively turning up the volume.

Okay so unless you're like Amish or something or living under a rock you've heard about the famous element found in Australia called Dysonium. Hell maybe they even know what it is, but today marks a little over a year since the discovery that has baffled and excelled the scientific community. Apparently Dysonium can shift atomic mass under certain weather and atmospheric conditions yada yada... but here's the thing. Today The Jorgensen Laboratory has confirmed that among all detection of Dysonium clusters ever gathered on Earth, eighty-three percent remains in Australia, but it initially it was ninety percent! which means seven percent has either dissolved into the atmosphere or there's something going on maybe some smuggling? But what do I know I'm just a radio guy. That means the other ten percent is scattered throughout the world, but no one is claiming to come forward with any reports of finding it. It's THIRTY MILLION A GRAM PEOPLE! That's set for life!!! How I wish I could find some of that element. Experts are saying it could even be extraterrestrial in origin, it's self-shifting properties coming from interstellar phenomena sticking dark matter or even tachyon particles to it... I have no idea what that means, but you know those scientists. Making rocks seem like artifacts from heaven. Stranger things have happened. Like that incident in Seattle some years ago... the one where ALLEGEDLY the kid was flying and trying to get away from the police? Hah, if only.

Diamond releases a laugh of impression, taking out her notebook and opening to a blank page, being sure to hide the other pages from Larisa. She begins jotting the information onto a piece of paper. She writes it all down and then closed the notebook with glee, seemingly more energetic at the news. To one on the outside it would be quite peculiar to see a young teen such as her become happy at such an obscure element, but it was the why behind things that truly gave them meanings. Identity. She looks to Larisa.

"So CM Museum has a Dysonium exhibit, you really think it's actual Dysonium? No way they'd have a multi million dollar element just on display for everyone to see... right? Also, sorry I should've asked how your day has been. My mind has just been all over the place you know?"

Larisa Saphet

Larisa's green Subaru Forester laid waiting behind her, quietly humming as if to tell her to take her time. She liked her car. Sure, it was her parents' old car, but it had character. And besides, they wouldn't really be needing it... Dragging her attention from her thoughts, she realized Diamond was hugging her. Larisa hugged back enthusiastically, feeling better upon being embraced. Spontaneity was something she was fond of, especially in the form of a hug or high five. It made her realize that Diamond was probably just as excited to see her.

While Diamond addressed Lyro, Larisa felt her attention slip onto other things. She had a bit of a whimsical expression as she thought back to that beautiful, strange rock. She realized a little while ago this rock was named Dysonium, although she liked to ignore the fact. It was beautiful, sure, but it did things to her that she never really wanted to acknowledge. The words also confused her, lock, but it was quite easy for her to let go of thoughts that were bothering her. She just dropped them from her attentions, and, subtly, they slipped into her subconscious, where she no longer had to worry about them.

Doing so with her current thought, she returned her gaze to Diamond right as her friend acquired a solemn face. Larisa would immediately be concerned, although upon being waved off by Diamond, would hesitate. She didn't want to push any limits and make Diamond mad, after all... And such was the curse Larisa bore. All she wanted to do was help, but... Was this even the situation where that was necessary..? She had no idea, and that made her uneasy. However, there was no need to dwell. If Diamond insisted on saying she was fine, Larisa would not push her. That might be rude...

The question Diamond then asked, though, caught her even more off guard. How should she answer..? "Oh! Uh... Personally, I like your resolve and strength. I'm not that much of a strong person, as obvious as that may sound, so it's nice to find strength in you when I need it the most. And, it's nice how you willingly give it... Uhm... Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for..." The girl murmured, cautious and tentative in what she said. She didn't want to say the wrong thing, not at all...

Sighing, she let it go and got into her car. She glanced over at Diamond with a half smile, making sure not to interrupt her and Lyro. Her mind was abuzz with worry, though. What if she said something wrong..? She could only give a light grimace at the thought, which was poorly hidden on her face. Even so, she shook the nagging feeling off and started her car. As they began on their way, Diamond helped herself to the radio and turned it up. The mentioning of Dysonium made her flinch slightly. It really was everywhere... Why couldn't she just be ignorant to what it did to her..? Hiding her slight discomfort with an ease from years of experience, she focused only on driving. The museum wasn't that far from here...

This was fine; Diamond was her friend, and she had a love for this new element. But if only she knew... If only she knew what it did to Larisa... Secretly, Larisa wished she could confide in her friend. It would be so reassuring to do so, but... She bit her lip, swallowing up her thoughts right as Diamond began speaking. She put on an inquisitive face. "Hmm... I don't know. I wouldn't think so, it's super expensive for just for a gram... Probably just like a replica or something. Oh, no, that's fine... It's been okay so far. And yeah, that makes sense. Don't even worry about it," Larisa assured, giving Diamond a signature smile.

Finally, the two pulled up to the museum. Larisa's worries began melting away. It wouldn't be real Dysonium, and it would make Diamond happy. That was what was important. Larisa resumed her cheerful mood and started toward the museum after locking up the Subaru. "Hey, Diamond... What do you find so interesting about Dysonium? Like, what is the most interesting thing about it to you?" she asked, genuinely curious. Maybe... There was something else she saw in the element, other than the usual things..?

Lyro

"Everything."

Lyro continued up the steps with a grin on his face, pausing by Diamond as she turned to zip up his jacket. Lyro embraced Diamond, wrapping his arms around Diamond's waist. He smirked as she gave him the peck. He noticed the slight movements of her hand as she shut her notebook, was she hiding anything from him? No, Diamond would never, probably nothing to worry out. Lyro had come to understand when things should be taken to heart or not, most often by his struggling mother, who exaggerated the smallest of things. "Depends on your definition of rebellious, Di," Lyro responded with a wink of the eye. He was tempted to lower his hands around Diamond's waist, but refused with hopes of not rushing their relationship. "I really am supposed to..." He answered in a nonchalant voice, bending down as he took her hand in an elegant fashion. He retraced his steps slowly, turning around to pull her with him before the green Subaru Forester pulled up by the house. He immediately knew it was Larisa, moving back towards Diamond as he dropped his hands slowly. Lyro had not any type of vendetta against Larisa, don't be mistaken, though for him it was as if he was constantly sharing his girlfriend with someone else.

He steps back as Diamond hugged Larisa, leaning on the railing of the porch. Lyro performed a subtle chin-flick towards Larisa in greeting. He allowed them their moment, though just standing allowed the cold a slight advantage over his exposed legs. Diamond turned back to face him shortly after. "You're going back there to check out the Dyscenum or something exhibit again?" He asked when she'd mentioned the museum. It only reminded him about the event a year back, as well as the odd occurrences ever since. I think you should drop your interest in this. He thought to himself, he wanted to tell Diamond so bad about why he was afraid of the element, why she shouldn't get involved in it, that it would change her. Keeping the "curse" a secret had always been hard for Lyro since it first appeared, but finding a way to break the news to her had always been foreign to him, without anyone to trust from a young age, he'd just grew up expecting the worse reaction out of the people he loved, especially if it made him different. He shook his head out of thought, forcing a smile, "Have fun with that, you nerd." Lyro chuckled. He hadn't even remembered of his odd clothing choice until Diamond had mentioned it, grinning as she spoke, "So you see 'em watching me too. You shouldn't be scared, I'm yours." He reminded her, sounding out his last word, "yoursss." He'd even locked hands with her to emphasise the point, moving them gently onto her chest. "And sure, I'll just go in and freshen up. Meet you there in ten-- and I love you for everything. That's too vague a question." He notices Diamond freeze up slightly, though again, he'd learned not to overreact at the slightest of things. With that, she'd been escorted away to Larisa's car, watching the two girls walk off into the Forrester.

Finished with waving them goodbye, Lyro hung on the porch for a moment, inhaling the cold air as his mind slowly retreated to the words that've haunted him since the daunting experience, Lock. He shuddered, erasing the thought or at least suppressing it lightly. Knowing fully well that Diamond's parents would either be returning home soon, or the neighbours would snitch at him being there, he made a jog off the porch, before quickening into a full sprint. He'd reached his house at the end of the block in no time, pulling out his keys from the jungle of his pockets as he shouldered his way in. The house smelled of thick alcohol, with bottles of whiskey and cognac spread on top of the kitchen counter. He sighed, shutting the door with his foot as he made his way into the kitchen. Mother had been drinking again. A note on the fridge read, "Gone out for the night shift at the hospital. Trust me, I didn't just down those bottles. Love, mom." Lyro just sighed, crushing the paper in his hands, throwing it into the garbage before he began to rid the house of the glass bottles spread all about. When finished that, he'd wiped all the liquids remnants from the counters, before finally making his way upstairs to freshen up.

About ten minutes had showered since Lyro entered the shower. It was indeed very little compared to the length of his morning shower, about thirty if given enough time, but this was only supposed to be a quick rinse. It seemed he did have plenty on his mind: his alcoholic mother, something was up with his girlfriend even if he tried to deny it, and these extraordinary powers he'd made himself believe he was cursed with. Clenching his fists in anger, he thought of slamming it into the washroom wall, though he'd done that once before in anger and only ended up shattering his knuckles. Having a cast on for ten weeks had not been a blast. Rinsing the last of his shampoo out of his hair, Lyro dried up, moisturised and fulfilled whatever needs he might have had before leaving the bathroom. He donned a plain black short sleeve shirt with the white and red Levi's logo on the front, a zipper hoodie over it as well as one of his favourite dark True Religion jeans. He bent down onto his bed to put on his shoes, sorting through the collection before his eyes had set onto the pair of red and white Air Jordan 11 Retro. They were quite large as a cause of his size, custom made for size fifteen wearers. With the last pull of the lace, he sorted through his accessories and whatnot, racing down the stairs while turning off the lights on the way. The door had shut with a loud thud he was sure the neighbours could hear, the jingling of his necklace sounded out as he jogged into the car. He didn't know why but he quite enjoyed living at a fast-pace, all the better for the upcoming drag race he'd entered himself into for the following night.

With a rev of the motor, Lyro pulled off in his car, smoke escaping the pipes in the back. Using every advantage he had, he finally arrived at the museum, waving dumbfoundedly at the entrance. He couldn't quite make out where Diamond and Larisa were.

(Rushed writing especially at the end, I'm pressed on time right now for everything, so my condolences!)

Caleb smiled when Kara called out to him and walked into view. He managed an awkward but somewhat convincing smile as she made a comment about him being hungover. By now the headache seemed to be wearing off and he was away from the bright lighting of the gym. He removed the shades and closed them before slotting the glasses into his shirt pocket. "No hangover for me, today. I just left the gym and had a bit of a post-workout headache." He nodded his head as he'd managed to convince even himself that he was a normal human being who got normal headaches. "Shall we go somewhere we can grab a drink and snacks? I've worked up an appetite," he told her. "I'll let you choose the venue."

He was used to just going to the same places, usually just automatically walked there with his friends. It was easy to fall into a routine, easy to just go with the flow and find comfort in conformity. Perhaps today he could try something new that wasn't predetermined by his group of friends. Sometimes he felt more comfortable in one-to-one interactions and Kara seemed easy to talk to. Still, he knew he couldn't be completely himself around even her. She'd run a mile if she knew about his unnatural abilities.

Kara nodded at Caleb's excuse about the headache. She tried to go to the gym a couple of times a week, fitness is important, but she never really tried to do better. Of course Caleb would, it was part of his job after all. She nodded at the suggestion of getting something to eat somewhere. She was also glad he hadn't suggested the cafe she'd just left.

"How about Bread and Batter? It's a bakery not too far from here." She suggested, beginning to walk in the right direction towards it. "Maybe you should take it a bit more easy at the gym, if you're getting headaches." She added, not sure if she was overstepping by giving advice on something she didn't really know about.

"So, uh, your family lives in town, right?" She asked.

Diamond was enjoying the ride with her friend. Larisa was just so sweet and pure, rather the Yin if Diamond was the rebellious Yang. She reflected in her friends' words about why she liked her, saying that she herself wasn't strong. Diamond didn't like hearing her say that. Everyone was a beacon in their own way, and Diamond fully believed that. Perhaps Larisa didn't know her strength because of the Diamond could tell by the way Larisa is in nature that her home life was secure and vanilla. She didn't have the tumultuous dynamic that she and Caleb had with their parents. Even though her parents were imprisoned, Larisa's Aunt was kind and well enough. "Hey Risa... don't ever say you're not strong. Considering your parents' situation it would've been easy to lash out or act because of them not being home in your life. But you are so sweet and pure... that in itself is strong, ya know?" The usually quiet girl then gives Larisa a very genuine, lighthearted smile. As Larisa tells her about how the Dysonium is assuredly fake, Diamond nods, but still smiles at another opportunity to explore her new profound obsession. Her father was so hard on Caleb, but to Diamond he was rather skewed on his view. Perhaps it was just because she was the little girl that he didn't try to limit her expressions as much as the boy. Their mother was very on and off at times, in some cases she'd shut their father's radical ideas down and in others she would simply remain silent. Larisa asks her about her interest in Dysonium, the girl clamming up momentarily before clearing her throat and providing a small smile. She took her notebook out of her backpack and turned to the pages upon pages of information on Dysonium.

"Well, a lot of things are interesting. First is how it can shift atomic mass. No matter what state an element is in gas, solid, or liquid, it's atomic number remains the same which is the number of electrons and protons it has. But Dysonium actually goes from one of each, to sixty, to over one-hundered and twenty. Just like that, not only a seemingly spontaneous phase change, but almost as if it's transmutating itself. Like an amoeba or an organism. How does an element do that? And then!!"

Diamond found herself getting a bit too passionate about the matter.

"And then, it emits radioactive frequency... like actual radio waves come from it meaning it's electromagnetic in nature, not nuclear like most believed at first. What's most interesting is... no one has ever claimed any. 90% lands in Australia and the other 10% NO ONE has touched it? Or at least if they have... there's no trace of it. Maybe because it's transmutating to the environment around it, even human skin. I don't know... just spitballing."

The Subaru pulls up to the parking lot of CM Museum, where Diamond stuffs her notebook back into her backpack and unclips her seatbelt and hops out and heads inside, with an enthusiasm that almost leaves her friend behind. She gets to the front, the interior near pristine, already leading to the Dysonium exhibit as she enters to the front desk. While Larisa was catching up, Diamond went ahead and paid for both their admission, waiting for her close friend to catch up and walk along side her into the museum, refusing any attempt for Larisa to pay her back. Diamond was already clicking her pen repeatedly in anticipation of seeing this up close. She knew that it wouldn't be real Dysonium of course, but anything to bring her closer to a key to unlock her inner potential as her brother did. There were a handful of people wandering about paying homage to the city's history and lore, but almost everyone was lined up at the section to where the Dysonium showcase was. Diamond's crystal eyes trails the line, as she smirks back at Larisa and smiles. She walks hastily past the line and into the blacklight lit, multi-colored section that was the exhibit.

"Whoa..." Diamond let the intrigue of the colors and ambiance play into her amazement. She felt like a kid on a field trip. She'd even dissolved the fact that her boyfriend was supposed to even be meeting them there. She spots the large cluster of supposed element in question and starts to approach it. Suddenly, her hand is met by an older man's. Glasses, balding and something of a stock character in a Stephanie Meyer novel. He smiles at her and Larisa. "Excuse me, this isn't to be touched, the mineral is very delicate..." Diamond raised a brow at him, and replied almost thoroughly. "Well, sorry. It's not real Dysonium so I just thought--" The man cuts her off, slightly taken back by her comment with such conviction. He looks around almost as if to hide the fact the conversation was happening. "I'm sorry? We made the Dysonium exhibit extensively detailed to accuracy by world reports and witness claims..." Diamond then lulls her head around, leading into a debate with the museum curator. Caleb would only facepalm the poor bastard and drag Diamond away if he was here to see what the man was getting himself into. Diamond was intelligent for a reason. She researches shit. Knows said shit in and out. "If that were true, you'd know that Dysonium wouldn't even be able to be looked at without some sort of eye protection, its luminosity if way too intense for human retina..." The curator then looks in awe, as Diamond turns to see the weird atmosphere has affected Larisa as well. How would Diamond know such a thing? She's seen it up close, but no one was supposed to know that. Diamond may have said too much, but the clever girl could always pull it back. "What? I mean that's what has been reported and claimed by government documentation in Australia. Which means if this was real, we'd need shades or something."

Nice Save DiDi...

She shakes her inner thoughts and walks up close to the exhibit, this time the curator utterly wordless and responseless. As Diamond walked closer, a woman and another guy in tall coats and dark clothing overheard the conversation, eyeing Diamond with interest. Diamond sends a text to Caleb. More like spams Caleb.

Cay
me
Curator here tried to make the exhibit seem "authentic"
me
Knowing DAMN well millions worth of element would be kept so open.
me
You okay? I was going to text you back. Are you out with friends? Being safe?

Woman - "You hear that convo with the curator? The girl?"
Guy - "...Yeah."
