Water tastes like water, it is the compounds of hydrogen and oxygen and it tastes like those elements. Also water can be hard or soft and it still has a taste either way, so water definitely tastes like water not nothing.

Water doesn't taste like anything. Our perception of flavor is based on our sense of smell, and the five basic tastes that our tongue can perceive: Sour, Sweet, Salty, Savory and Bitter. Now, pure water doesn't have a smell, and it doesn't have any components that we perceive as Sout, Sweet, Salty, Savory or Bitter, so therefore, it tastes like nothing.

Also I really wish I had been around for the "is stew/soup a drink or a food" debate. It would've been fun to explain why it's a food.
