This RP was inspired by a very old book by Andre Norton, Quag Keep. It was one of the first D&D themed books ever published.

This is the story about a group of gamers who are isekaied into a homebrew fantasy realm created by their GM. (In this case the GM is the storyteller - me. But I will get to that in a moment.) Their GM was a bit new to them. He was an older gamer. But the advantage was that he had his own large home - practically a castle, complete with two car garage and a large basement converted into a gaming room. After all the complaints from their parents, roommates, etc … and being cut off from the use of the comic book store gameroom, let’s just say that it was hard to say no.

He wanted to run a campaign that began with beginner characters based on themselves. That is, their characters would have their knowledge. But their knowledge might conflict with the physics of the fantasy realm. Of course, at low levels these differences would probably go unnoticed.

The world was humancentric. That is, humans dominated the world. Fantasy races were looked upon with great suspicion or outright hatred. This did NOT have to be the case with the group members.

Character classes could be chosen before the start of the game - but changed afterward. Changing one’s path was always an option. Experience in a class was dependent on actually practicing and training in the game. So a class like Thief or Assassin would mean, you know, either figuring things out the hard way or finding a mentor. Magic was extremely complicated and he advised against any class except Primitive Talents which required no training. It all sounded a little half-baked.

Character creation was a complicated process that began with stats based on race for Dexterity, Strength, Constitution, Appearance, Voice. Points were assigned to be distributed over the racial stats. Intelligence and Wisdom were assigned by the group. Charisma was calculated from these stats. Physique was supposed to be a random stat, but he relented and allowed them to rate their character based on their race. But they soon learned that this was used to determining Body (hit points) and Fatigue.

Social Status was a special case. Status was everything among humans. Not of the Chivalric class or better … forget becoming a knight. Royal? Forget most magic classes, becoming a monk or priest. The GM decided to gloss over this with plans to rate them based on the final group and their behavior. Though he did state that a few humans travelling with some monster races like Lizard Men, Half Orcs, or Drow would likely be regarded as something less than legal. A group with a mix of elves and drow would raise eyebrows by both races as well as humans.

By this time everyone was beginning to realize that survival was going to be tough and unfair. They liked it.

Note: No, this is NOT a Dice system. Neither am I going to have everyone assigning a bunch of stats. This is just the background. But be thinking about how your character would have turned out when you do the description in your CS.

Note 2: The GM did advise that all group members consider whether they could enter towns or dungeons - and whether they would be able to use battle loot, such as magical weapons and armor. But he had a comprehensive list of races.

Starting gear was pre-purchased with starting funds before the game began so that the group would find themselves stuck on some dirt road with nothing but piles of money next to them and nothing to carry them in. No food, no water, no weapons, no armor.

Available Races
TBD - The classic Tolkien races, some old AD&D races (2nd edition era). All should be anthropomorphic. None OP. No undead or lycanthropes. Remember, these are supposed to start out as Zero level characters.

The Adventure Begins
They arrived unconscious as their characters. The rude awakening to find themselves as their characters was naturally a shock. They would soon discover one person missing - their GM.

The Quest
This may change over time. But the obvious quest would be to find a way to return home. To get there will take a lot of side quests, of course. They will need funds for training, funds for gear, funds for pretty much everything.
