Realistic or Modern Dreamers Of The Day

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.

-T.E. Lawrence

1943
World War II was in full swing, reaching every corner of the earth and casting a dreadful shadow of uncertainty over the future, but the world that could be wasn’t all at risk. Hitler’s Reich had spearheaded a conquest of arts and antiquities, pillaging and purging all arts and artifacts from every land the black tendrils of fascism touched. Museums and timeless sites were ransacked, their treasures stuffing the collections of the Nazi elite, or otherwise destroyed.

Hither came the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program. The illustrious Monuments Men. A famed and revered international organization of historical, military, and covert import in their three years of official service, as they dedicated themselves to “the greatest treasure hunt in history”. With next to no official guidelines or regulations, these drafted librarians, historians, and professors, managed to liberate over 1,500 priceless historical artifacts from the clutches of the SS, from Germany to Italy, and even Japan near the end of their deployment in 1945. A year later, the Civil Affairs and Military Government Section of the Allies Armies disbanded the MFAA, seeing their purpose fulfilled, yet only a small fraction of their activities and discoveries declassified.

1955

Rose Valland; French national, ally to the MFAA even before their inception, and Chair of Chef du Service de protection des oeuvres d'art, privately funded the resuscitation of the MFAA. She had two cosigners on this endeavor: Viscount Alexander Ward-Gray and Sally Armitage. The former being an eccentric British nobleman and founder of Section M, the latter being the primary mind of Operation Majestic. Thus arose an organization for the discovery, recovery, protection, and preservation of history and culture by any and all means necessary.

Present Day

The Four Corners Expeditionary Corps (FCEC), like its spiritual predecessors, is an international private organization dedicated to the discovery, deciphering, recovery, rescue, and preservation of the world’s history and culture. They are a band of intrepid adventurers, explorers, warriors, and scholars; every individual among the best and brightest in their respective fields of study. Where DARPA looks towards the future, the FCEC sets its eyes upon the past, so that the future may have a more concrete foundation. Whether it be endeavoring complete archaeological expeditions in unstable regions or the relocation ill-begotten black market relics to a better place, the FCEC seeks to protect the formative bedrock of human history and culture from the wildly rapacious present.

However, one of the greatest hurdles of the FCEC is the mysteries within their own history. Ever since their foundation, the chairman of the Corps has petitioned the United Nations for the declassified documents of the MFAA, for knowledge is the utmost power in their line of work. Yet over half a century later, the UN council has yet to budge, while hoping posthumous commendations would distract the members of the Four Corners from their mission.

[div class=fyuriwrapper][div class=windowtop] [/div][div class=subject]Re: FCEC Application[/div][div class=recipient]Me[/div][div class=sender]The Curator[/div][div class=message] To whom it may concern,
I apologize if this message finds you out of sorts. If you did not send an application to our offices, someone above your station did, or we sought you out on our own accord. Should the third be the case, then you certainly must be something special.

Rest assured, you are receiving this message only because you have met the stringent qualifications of our organization. You may or may not be the best, but you are more than good enough. We don't deal in silver nor bronze. As it stands, the missions of the FCEC are not your typical National Geographic jaunt. Our organization faces warlords and criminal elements before other enterprises dare call lunch. That which comes later? Consider those trade secrets, trusted to our "made men", as it was.

If you deign to not accept this offer of employ within two weeks time, this email will delete itself, and our legal teams will deny all association. Believe us when we say such measures are necessity, and would truly break our hearts.

History waits for nobody, so we hope to hear from you soon.

Well, I do think this is enough interest to upgrade from "interest" to "definite possibility"! I will have the character thread up in the next day or so.
