~Out at Sea~

Standing atop the crows nest with the wind swirling around him; daggers of icy cold ocean splatter would continue to pierce the warmth of his body, the coldness only being enhanced by the merciless, unrelenting cold air that rushed all around them. . Had the captain sent any other man up to the crows nest, he'd have doomed them to a frozen hell. Agares however was no ordinary man, he was a dragon.. one that at this present moment truly felt like the good old days had returned; as if he were the central controlling figure of the ill-boding storm that threatened to sink any and all that were foolish enough to have entered its unforgiving fury.

Agares could not help but smile at the skies above, arms outstretched on either side as he submitted himself to the flurry of wind and water; black locks of hair dancing along the wind as his jacketed fluttered in unison; eyes shut tightly as his mind raced back to fleeting memories of a time when he stood in control. As a human, the rushing sense of fear and adrenaline had managed to bring him to new euphoric heights; feelings of elation that he had long since grown numbed too, back when he stood near the pinnacle of the worlds hierarchy; a high dragon born to look down upon the races forever glued to the ground below. His position atop the crows nest, looking down at the other members of the ship could not have been more symbolic. They really were frail creatures; struggling in desperation to survive, even if their foe was mother nature itself. Fear... panic.. desperation... were these the faces of all the men he had doomed to a watery end?

How his eyes were slowly being opened to the other side of the coin. Agares however would not be given more time to wallow in his thoughts as the voice of the ships captain serenaded him from below.

"Wha the blimey $%^# is tha idiot doin?!"
cursed the Captain below as he spared a glance upward, hoping for fortunate news from the man he had sent upward to try find a way outta this storm. Little did he know that

"REAGAS! Oi! REAGAS!!!" he shouted, his voice booming despite the crashing of waves against their vessal. "Ya bloody idiot!, I said.. find us a way outta ere! Not.. flap yar arms like some bloomin seagul. Don' make me effin shoot ya!" he continued, struggling against the wheel of the ship as he begun to breath heavily; a large wave breaking against the bow of the vessel and sending water rushing along the top deck; several crew members falling onto their rears as they lost their footing. The groans of injured men could just about be heard as they began to pick themselves up; two of them finding their footing as they hoisted themselves up, thanks to some rope along the side. Alas, their attempts to reach steady footing was quickly quashed as a second wave broke, lurching the boat to its side and causing them to fall down once more.

Agares on the other hand had remained fixed upon the crows nest; hands now holding the edge of his post as he maintained his position, despite the roller coaster ride their ship was presently on. In the distance, the light of Seawatch's lighthouse could be seen; a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness of the storm that seemed to stretch on endlessly.

"Lighthouse.. portside" shouted Agares, unable to hide a smile as he took pride in getting the ship life lingo on point. "There is a break in the storm ahead.. if yer as good at sailing as you are at barking orders... you might just get us outta here and into Seawatch safely!" shouted Agares, before turning back to watch the ongoing chaos around him

"Cheeky bastard... why I oughta teach him some respect!"
gritted the Captain, resolving himself once more as he gripped the ships wheel tightly. "Alright Ya miserable bunch of sea urchins! Ya do yer jobs proply and I'll be buyin ya'll a pint once we hit Dragons head!, I've a mate in the city guards, he'll sort ya out real nice with tha taverns owner... and if ya luckly, find ya a warm bed with company!" goaded the captain, the rest of the crew hollering in celebration at the thought of the incentive now placed before them.

Agares on the other hand had reaffixed his gaze down at the captain; ears twitching at the mention of the Dragon Heads Inn; the smile no longer present upon his face.

“To dragon’s end!”

Despite the dower mood, Morriel gave a nod at the drinks being on the house- maybe she’d need one after the guards got into her personal space on their own whims over alcoholic influence. In all honesty, she did feel a bit bad for what the drinks were doing to their heads, but slipping a hand upon her back was a step too far. Nobody should be that close, especially strangers off their gourd on sweet honey.

Leaning back, the elven waved off both Brenier and Leo’s worry as she forced her shoulders to relax with an breath or two, and a shake of the head; Morriel brought a hand to her thigh as she remained calm despite the touch lingering in the back of her mind, “I’m alright, it was just a drunk who touched me when I went over. Kicked out the guard who did it.” She didn’t add the part of what the guard said after he touched her, but that wasn’t important. She tilted her head towards Bren as a man clad in armor entered the tavern and recognized Leo and the two embraced, seemingly being friends for a long time from their banter.

But yes, I’m from the Runic Dragon Order, Brenier. Doubt any others in the Order are coming, though.” It wasn’t a speculation moreso as the elven knew that this was the case, as when the Runic Order was disbanded and goodbyes were given, the Council of Iylalon snatched up a few Runic Knights for their personal guard and left the rest to feed on the bones of what was left. Everyone in the Order was focused on getting sure footing on careers in the country, because Rannar wasn’t an easy place for a unstable life in the field. The Council made it that way.

Tilting her head towards the former dragon slayer, she also picked up what Dane had said. A dragon-finding compass? Why, that would be immensely helpful to as least find out where they went. A slight sigh escaped her lips at that prospect.

Eramis Quill

When Tireisa left to return to her duties serving the patrons of the bar, Eramis' eyes followed her. She seemed rather nice and genuinely caring. Even more so when she returned and seemed concerned hearing Era's story. She put a hand on the silvery girl's shoulder, a gesture of empathetic solidarity, which earned a half smile from her.

Eramis watched in disbelief as Lance humored Mrs. MacKenzie. She felt sorry for him in a way, the old woman had enough confidence to fill ten men.

"Ma’am I do admit your forwardness could make a lump of coal burn bright red." Tireisa's observation made Eramis stifle a laugh with a hand over her mouth.

Mrs. MacKenzie snapped her head to look at the young red-head, nose in the air with pride, "Aye, when ye've lived as long as I have, ye realize theres no time for dilly dally. Ye earn that right." She gave a curt nod before returning to Lance with an admirable gaze.

Eramis turned to Tireisa for her reaction but saw a drink offered to her instead. Tireisa had put it on the counter beside her, and after giving a nod of granted permission, Eramis took the mug with both hands. It was...big...to say the least, at least in her smaller hands. She sniffed the rim and winced at the scent of fermented barely. Like dragons, Eramis learned that people often shared meals -- or in this case drinks -- socially to signify trust has been granted between persons or parties. She took this as a token of a start of a new friendship and raised the mug with both hands, as she's witness people do as custom, and took a sip. Her eyebrows furrowed as she shut her eyes and almost spit out the think malt. Eramis held it down, she didn't want to offend, but the most important thing was not appearing as though this was her first time....but it was. She pulled the rim from her lips and made a sour face, looking up at Tireisa, "M-mmm..." she faked, almost gagging. 'How do they drink this stuff?' she wondered.

Mrs. MacKenzie on the other hand was all but ready to faint, her eyes fluttered sheepishly as Lance's lips politely pressed against her hand. Taking it back slowly, she played with the thin, gold necklace that twinkled in the fire light. "You sound like you're from the North of Brix Mrs. Mackenzie," Lance asked, his curiosity seeming authentic.

"Oh, how astute of ye, lad! Brains and brawn, eh?" She gave a hearty laughed, then settled to answer, "Aye, born and bred," her chest puffed with the pride most nothern Brixish people have. Her face beamed to admit so. Suddenly remembering she traveled all this way for a purpose she gave a small bow, "Weel," she sighed longingly, "I suppose I ought to get back t' pushing that ale then."

Lance went on and asked Eramis a rather unexpected question. She wiped the foam 'stache from her upper lip after sneaking another sip of ale. She paused for what felt like forever, carefully calculating her next response. The winds were, infact, wonderful there. As a wind dragon she, knew that peak very well, and recalled learning how to fly there as a youngling. The strange feeling of unexplainable kinship she sensed from the strangers before her urged her to be honest, and the equally estranged look on Lance's face said he already knew the answer. She could always say no. There'd be no risk in that, would there? Her eyes darted to Tireisa then back to Lance before giving a slow and hesitant nod. Either he was a very knowledgeable slayer or a dragon testing the trusting waters with a code. Eramis took another sip of the ale to calm her nerves, mind to frantic to even taste the bitter brew.

Arkos leaned forward towards Dane. "You mean we could find the dragons again?" He said, a light kindling in his eyes. Dragons! Tallema's power is not weakening. With his rush he knocked over his axe, and it thunked onto the floor. He totally didn't take any notice of it because a drunk grabbed his shoulder.

"Youngin, you an't welcome here," he brawled. "You half-giants are nothing but trouble." Arkos stood up, but the drunk was too... well... drunk to be intimidated. Instead he drew a dagger and tried to slash at Arkos, who caught the man's wrist, causing him to drop the blade.

"Help me, this giant is gonna eat me," he blabbered. Immediately, a couple more men came and tried to hit on the half-giant.

"Guys,' he said gruffly. "I'm not gonna eat you, but I will throw you if you don't stop hitting me."

"I'll kill you!" one of the shouted, taking a dagger out and stabbing poor Arkos in the side. But, with having a earth dragon tattoo, the dagger only delt half the damage expected. Instead, the half-giant grabbed two of the guys, picked them up, waded through the other three to the door. And then started the unceremonious process of throwing them out of the door. One managed to get away, and Arkos let him be. Until he tried to tackle him from behind and somehow the attacker ended up through the window.

"Oof," Arkos grimaced. "That's gonna cost a pretty penny or two." He made his way to the table when he realized his side was bleeding. "Anyone has any cloth I can use to wipe the blood away?"

Tireisa Alderann
Tireisa offered an apologetic smile as Eramis attempted to drink the ale with a sense of fervor. “It grows on you” she expressed as her eyes seemed distant for a moment. In fact however she was focusing on the conversation the man known as Dane was having as he spoke of a compass that could guide them to the dragons that had been missing all these months. A spark of different emotions emanated within her. First was excitement and hope at the thought of finding her kind once more and possibly understanding what happened to her. The second however was fear in the almost immediate understanding of what such an object in these peoples hands meant.

The hunt had once again begun……

“No..”
The single word escaped her lips in such a hushed tone but her eyes burned in anger as her hand twisted against the mug in her hand before she realized and stopped herself. It helped that her attention was pulled by Mrs.Mackenzie and her prideful boasting of living young forever.
Tireisa shook away a blush partly at the older woman’s words but mainly to calm herself.

“If we all had the same outlook as you madam we may all have husbands by now, but the night is young yes?”
Tireisa teased back as the woman left to attend to more business matters. As she did so another interruption amongst the patrons occurred. As the half giant finished removing yet another set of troublesome customers Tireisa set down her drink and ripped a piece of her waitressing cloth that was tied atop her leggings and dipped it into the strong ale before excusing herself again.
“Oi, all the fightin is done. Anyone else who tries it will answer to me. We are here for a celebration tonight!” she called out as she walked over to Arkos offering a slight tilt of her head before placing a wad of the cloth against the wound. Exerting pressure as she used the longer length to wrap it around him and tightened it around the first placement to create a makeshift bandage.

“Try not to bleed on the floors while I’m working tonight okay handsome?”
She exasperated as she falsely grunted with effort at the last tightening and lashing of the cloth. Her eyes rested on the earth dragon tattoo adorning the man’s skin.
“From Tollus then..”
she whispered as her fingers listlessly moved across the mark before she pulled her hand back.
“No more trouble outta you, unless I require it alright?”
Tireisa tossed a flirtatious glance before chuckling as she moved back through the crowd to the bar area once more using the time in between to pour refills from the pitchers on the tables.
She exhaled a sigh as she moved to a pail to rinse her hands of the small amounts of blood that had managed to get on her while helping him.

Yet her mind was entirely focused on Danes words as she understood what fate had in store for her although not it’s entire meaning.
Had she been brought here to keep the dragon slayers from using this device to find her kin, in doing so protecting her species. Or was she meant to use it herself to find the answers to the questions she had no way of answering on her own. Either way…Tireisa tossed a glance back through the crowd towards Dane. She knew she had to get that compass….no matter the cost.
“Terramus is a peak and was once well traveled.”
The woman’s words were more steeled for a moment like those of a warrior preparing for battle as she turned to lance. Her eyes becoming ice cold before warming once more to her usual demeanor.

((smol post for Lance reaction))

Lance was relieved when Mrs. Mackenzie bustled off to tend her stock, but his reaction to that was stifled by a different one: he'd seen Eramis try the alcohol.
First, he pressed his lips tightly together, but subtly, his sides began to shake. He looked to the ceiling, then to the floor, but he couldn't contain it: Lance began to laugh quietly.
It was all the more funny, because he remembered responding in the exact same way when he was first made to try it.

"F-forgive me, Ms Quill." He managed to force through the mirth. "But your face! Haha, oh that was priceless!"

Ultimately it wasn't Eramis who gave the answer he wanted, it was the other woman.
Lance stopped laughing immediately, his eyes widened and a sheer, desperate hope flooded into them.
He'd been searching for so long, uncertain if there even were any other high dragons like him.
He whispered something then, a quiet blessing that was for dragons and dragons alone:

"May the wind always find you, the earth always meet you..."

The final line then, was left to them:

'May your heart and the world be as one.'

~Out at Sea~
"Almost there lads!, Keep on ya toes! ain't no blasted storm gunna get tha beh'er of us ta'night!"
shouted the Captain as he finally felt the opposing force lessen; the Esmeralda sailing into calmer waters as they entered the bay surrounding the port town; a ray of light shining upon them as the lighthouse light continued to swivel around; a beacon of hope for any other sailor unfortunate enough to have been caught out at sea on this ill fated day. How many had been caught out there?... How many had not been as lucky as the crew of Esmeralda... or perhaps.. it wasn't luck at all... perhaps.. it was simply fate at work. After all, it wasn't by sheer coincidence that the one crew that had eluded Agares's wrath on so many occassions had been the one to deliver Agares to the port of SeaWatch; the idle seaside town at the eastern tip of Brix where the beginning of a grand new adventure was taking place; unbeknownst to even Agares himself. The dragon was simply seeking more of humanity's fine rum and a warm meal.

Sailing into the port, a wave of relief had swept over the crew below; some of them buckling onto their knee's as they felt the chaotic wobbling of the ship lessen with each passing moment; the ship having left the epicentre of the maelstrom that had cost them so much grief and into calmer waters that led into the port. Cold icy rain still pricked at their bodies; though by now they had ultimately become numb to the cold with the only thing keeping them going being the promise of a warm meal and even warmer company; if the captain was true to his word.

Finding an unattended dock, the Esmeralda would slowly make its way into the harbour; finding a spot towards the furthest end where several of SeaWatches dock workers awaited them; a look of annoyance on their face as quite evidently they did not want to be out here in the rain. "Get on yer feet!, Ain't no time for slackers! Let's get tha bounty unloaded before all the ale's gone. I don't have ta tell ya twice that the bloomin guards ere are a bunch of guzzle goats! Any longa and they'll ave drunken tha lot!" voiced the captain as the ship was finally moored to the dock; several groans from his men signalling that they had acknowledged his order.

"About bloomin time!" shouted one of the dockworkers as the gangway was lowered. The gruff burly man holding onto the rope that hung freely from the end of the passageway, grunting as he fastened it to the side of the dock in order to ensure the pathway was safe for the crew once they alighted. "We thought we lost ya out there" voiced the smaller of the two men, holding a lantern upward as it swayed against the wind. His free hand outstretched as he awaited the captain to return the favor. "Terrible weather we be havin for this time a year... Reckon it has something to do with them dragon slayers being in town?" he continued, leaning over to watch the burly man finish with the knot; his question bringing out a scoff from his partner. "Slayers in town?" replied the Captain, glancing up towards the direction of where the Dragon's head inn was. "Is that why they got me haulin all this cargo during this blasted storm?!" he asked rhetorically, still eyeing the direction of where the tavern was. "If they ave nothin better ta do... then they might as well head outta sea... I be tellin ya, this storm reminded me of the days back near Tal-kung... a blasted dragon roamed the oceans back there... creatin storms ervry time we tried ta sail near the island off their shores... wouldn't be surprised if tha god forsaken beast was out er right now!" goaded the Captain, who was fully aware that it was highly unlikely. A dragon hadn't been seen for a while now.

"Oh shut it will ya... them slayers... living off their past glories... well nowadays they ain't nothin more than yar high class crooks! Stealin a livin and thinkin that their a cut above tha rest of us" he continued, pressing his palm against his aching knee as he pushed himself back up to a standing position. "Dragons?... Alive?... Ain't no one seen one of em blumin pests in ages... they're all dead I tells ya... Dead. Those pissants are simply livin in the past... hangin on to old traditions... " the man paused, glancing as the crew begun to unload the cargo before. "That bein said... ain't no harm in us stealin a fortune for ourselves is there? Them slayers should still be laden with coin and if that means i'll be gettin more jobs like this, than i'm all fer it!"interjected the captain as he elbowed, the dockworker n the side of the gut as he too broke out in a fit of laughter. The younger of the two dockworkers simply looked on towards the ocean, a sense of dread creeping up on him as he still held doubt towards the rumours of the dragon's disappearances.

"Well, We bes be makin our way to the tavern, have Gurtrey brin tha wagon round. I'll leave two of ma men ta help load it up. As fer the rest of us, we'll be makin our way to tha good old dragons head Inn" he turned to face the men of his ship. "I'm sure all of ya are ready for a nice warm meal eh?!" he shouted, eliciting a chorus of cheers. "First mugs on me, afta that.. you best be usin your coin wisely... I ain't in charge of ya if yer purse run empty come morning sun!" laughed the captain as he tossed the dockworker a bottle of rum for their troubles. "Thats on thee house.. fer ya troubles!" he chimed, before turning around to his crew once again.

"Raeges and Hubert, the two of ya will stay ere fer now. Help Gurtrey load tha wagon ya here me?" he questioned, though he only saw Hubert near the back. "Oh fa heaven's sake..Where the bloomin fook is Raeges now?!" came the inevitable irritable question.

"I saw him headin up to Dragon's head sir" voice the meek deckboy whom had just made himself known; the unfortunate lad had been confined to one of the rooms below deck; his face still pale and sickly as he threatened to spew his insides out once more. The young boy just wasn't built for the ocean.

A crash of thunder drowned out the tirade of curses that had escaped the captains mouth, his patience no longer existing as he was just about ready to teach Reages some respect. "To Dragon's head... and Varro, stay with Hubert... I'll be makin sure Reages makes it up ta ya tonight... he'd be a bloody fool to think he'd be getting his cut of the payment today"

Meanwhile, Agares had stopped a few yards away from the dragon's head inn; his eyes watching the man that had been unceremoniously tossed out the window like some sack of trash; two other goons rushing to his aide as blood seeped from a cut on his brow' trails of red slipping away in the rain as it momentarily pooled along the cobblestone ground.

A smirk was etched along Agares's face as he watched the trio slip away down the street; his ears listening attentively as the two men chatted about some giant; their selfish desire for revenge unsurprising to Agares who simply turned to face the building once more. He hadn't seen a giant in a long while... what was one doing all the way out here... he thought curiously, though the smell of food and ale that now permeated the street thanks to the broken window had diverted his thoughts to more pressing matters.

Caring less and less for why a giant was here, Agares made his way to the door; gripping the icy cold nob tightly as he turned it to one side; opening the door and letting a rush of wind swirl right into the main hall. Stepping in, his free hand slowly raised up to his forward, brushing aside the strands of black hair that had stuck itself against his forehead thanks to the rain.

"I'll take a glass of rum and whatever meat ya have cooking back there, and I don't just mean one plate. I'll take at least four..." he laughed, continued to walk inside the room; glancing at the abundance of people presently inside; a large group of which were clad in armour... armour that had gained Agares's attention.

Alas, he wasn't here to start a fight... it seemed like he had been beaten to it considering what he had seen prior to entering the tavern.

But yes, I’m from the Runic Dragon Order, Brenier. Doubt any others in the Order are coming, though.
"' 'Shame thaht is, I doubt any o' the Freelancers back home'll swing by either. Fahr to busy scuttling each other, bless their hahrts," Brenier answered, exhaling through his final remark. He couldn't disrespect the hustle of his comrades, as he wasn't innocent of turning on his peers either, some just never seemed to grow tired of it. Perhaps there was a lesson to be found in these last few months, that the dogmatic pursuit of wealth ruins even the best. But it was that very pursuit that protected Maramota's shores for centuries, so maybe he was just grasping at straws. The man reached for his brew, intent on scattering such a roundabout thought for the evening when he heard talk from the main group.

A dragon finding compass? Seems the Dragoons were far more desperate than even his country's slayers, skipping over the infighting right to lunacy. No, it certainly had to be some kind of trick. He pinched the bridge of his nose, squeezing both eyes shut as the claim washed over him. While Morriel sighed, he groaned, and stretched out across the bar top in his stool. "Aht least they scheme here ahs they do 'home. An' jus' when this lahnd started to seem refreshin'," he rolled his head on the bar, letting it flop over to face the elf. She seemed surprisingly interested in Dane's claim. "Oi, you aren't considerin' thaht claim are you?" he bolted up.

(kinda short, but figured the group'll be addressed together in a sec.)

Arkos smiled as he felt the sting of the strong ale against the knife wound.
"Of course, fair tavern keeper," he blushed, clenching his muscles at the pressure on his knife wound. While the earth dragon tattoo made his skin tougher, it didn't dull the pain. Nothing really did, except for booze. But being a half-giant it took a lot for him to become drunk. "I'm at your disposal. This tavern is nicer than many. Most look at me and refuse me service."

He watched her touch his tattoo with a distant look in her eyes. "Magical creatures they are, dragons. I've never gotten to see a high dragon, but I've heard from my grandpaps that they are as smart, if not smarter than humans. It would have been an honor to battle one. They were the guardians of the power of nature. Not many revere them anymore, but my grandpap was of the old stock. He retired from the slayer corps young, and always taught me that the high dragons were not to be killed without reason. Personally, I'm jealous of that little guy over there. I'd love to study dragons, but my education is too low for that."

He then picked up his axe, he saw a man walk in. He had the smell of the sea, and Arkos smiled. Sailors were a fun lot to work with. They were rough and ready. Then drinking his ale, he sat back down. He sighed, as he touched his cut once again. He felt bad for the men he through out the window. Knowing men, especially drunk men, they'd probably want payback.

Eramis Quill

Eramis blinked at Lance with alarm, his face looked like it was going to burst. A tad confused at first, she studied his expression to decipher what was the matter. Her first thought was that perhaps there was something on her face, or maybe her hair looked more disheveled than she was made aware of from the rain. Finally, when the jovial man was able to tame his giddiness enough to form a sentence between chortles, Eramis' own face melted into resentment. Her lower lip slid forward in a pout, and her eyes darted to Tireisa sheepishly. However, the more she pictured how comical she must have looked, the more his laugh went from humiliating to infectious. His large smile split his beard and forced the silver dragon to share a tiny smirk and a giggle or two.

When the laughter subsided, their atmosphere took a serious turn. "May the wind always find you, the earth always meet you..." Lance's words rang in her heart and struck her wits. So....she wasnt alone after all. It took everything within her not to suddenly rejoice at the realization, especially with so many slayers in their midst. They were easily out numbered in these puny human bodies.

Violet eyes fought back tears full of overwhelmed emotion, "May your heart and the world be as one," Eramis finished with a shakey whisper barely leaving her plump lips, before taking another sip of the ale in her palms. There was a pounding in her ears that almost drowned out the merriment taking place around her. The throbbing in her neck flushed a flood of red to her cheeks and a lightness in her head. She had not heard those words in what felt like a milennia, and though this feeling felt foreign it was also bizzarely comforting. Eramis lowered her mug of liquid barley, scared that this safe feeling she had from her new acquaintences was just a facade made by the delerious effects of too much ale in her system. The smell was getting to her anyway, she never did like the pungent aroma of yeast. Too much for her sensitive nose to bare.

The front door of the tavern had popped open and for a brief, relieving time, had stolen the stale, suffocating air that was growing rather stagnant. There was a swirl of a cool, refreshing wind and Eramis took advantage of it with a deep breath, eying her savior that opened the door. He stood out among the rest, even in the company of this rag-tag group that made up the Dragon's Head clientele. He was waterlogged and swampy, even this heavy rain couldn't have made him that wet. Eramis scanned him from head to toe and concluded he fit the description of Captain Tidus, a rather scruffy pirate who was also considerably handsome, as Mrs. MacKenzie was always sure to note when she shared stories of the fantastical adventurer with Eramis when ever they did chores together. He could tame the wildest seas and embark on the wildest journeys in search of treasure. The soggy man wafted in the scent of salt with him and barked something upon his arrival but Era was distracted by the flash of his raffish grin as he scoured the sea of drunken bodies to find a suitable place to plant himself. She cleared her throat and looked down at her ale to look more inconspicuous before his gaze almost reached the direction of the dragon trio and the bar counter. She took another sip -- more like a gulp, producing another disgusted face -- when she realized the drink almost tricked her into swooning for the rugged stranger. Carefully setting the half-empty mug on the counter top so as to not accidentally spill it, she took a another deep breath that seemed to clear her nostrils as well her senses 'These drinks sure loosen ya up', she warned herself, sliding it further away with a single finger. She wiped a bit of foam that dribbled down her chin with her thumb and looked back to Lance and Tireisa in hopes she caught it in time before they could notice.

Dane made a face as Arkos dealt with the unruly patrons.
"You've a right to defend yourself of course, but a slayer can be better than that." He told the giant boy quietly.
The old dragon knight glanced at two behind him and they followed out the door quietly to make sure the men didn't try to return.

His eyes grew misty and he dabbed at them with a great big sleeve.
"Do you have any idea what's happened to us? Or Why? I was so desperate for answers I came to a slayer gathering to find them!"
Lance tried his best to keep his excitement quiet. It would do not good to arouse suspicion in this place.

Out in the pouring rain, in the inky gloom of the night, something stirred:
A coiled, slithering something, its scales brushing the rocks that jutted up from the foaming surf. Several more things slithered across the grassy dunes, slick with water, fangs glistening. They crept, unseen into the sleeping town.

Leo had just tried the special ale brought by the Dun Gannon brewers. It was magnificent, but powerful, or perhaps it was because she had already had two before. Still, it took her a split second longer to register the fact that the door had burst open. It was an old fisherman, his skin white as a cod's belly, and he had only one word in his throat:

"DRAGONS!"

Leo was on her feet in an instant, as was Dane, the look of disbelief fleeting in his expression before he took charge.
"Where and how many?"
But there was no more to be had out of the fisherman, for he collapsed on the floor, shaking.
"Slayers! Pair up, watch your backs!"

Lance's joy had turned sour in his stomach, the surprise of the call, and then the dread of what would come now seeping into his heart. He looked frantically to the other dragons.
What should they do?

~~~
Outside, there was one creature on the high street, cornered by Dane's men. One of the unfortunate patrons that had picked a fight that night lay under the beast's claws, his flesh shredded. The creature was long and slender, it's head rounded and fangs long and curved. Slayer and dragon alike could see, even in the gloom that what they were dealing with were not dragons.
Leo had her lance at the ready and grit her teeth when she saw it.
"Basilisk."
A screeching hiss from her left was all the warning she had before another leapt from a dark alley.
"Don't look them in the eyes!" She called as she parried the creature's fangs, wrestling with a body thick as a tree trunk.
They were surrounded. The creatures wove through the shadows of the buildings, encircling the only place with light: the Dragon's Head. Leo couldn't fathom what had made monsters so bold as to attack a human town, but it did not bode well.
The Lion
Thaessalia turned to look over her shoulder in confusion when the fisherman burst in. "Dragons?" Thaess repeated in disbelief. Dane and Leo were up in an instant; Thaessalia glanced between the rest of the patrons before she, too, left her drink, and went to investigate outside the inn.
"What in the..." She was promptly answered by Leo. Basilisks. Dragonblades in hand, Thaessalia sprung into action as a second slithering creature reared to catch Leo unawares; Thaessalia gritted her teeth as blade struck fang, bracing herself with a wide stance.
She finally understood why her friend had been so unimpressed with her life choices; dragons weren't the only things out there that needed slaying.
~Dragon's Head Inn~
Seated in one of the corners of the tavern away from the larger groups of men and women, Agares now with a pint of ale in one hand would begin to lean against the wooden chair he sat on, lips caressing the underside of the mug as he drank to his hearts content; blissfully uncaring towards his fellow crew members whom he had ditched at the harbour. If there was one thing he knew about the humans he had arrived with, it was that they could eat a lions portion of food and considering how hungry Agares presently was; it was only natural that he would attempt to horde as much of the food to himself; leaving the scraps for those unfortunate enough to not have the guile and wit to make their way here first. Snooze you lose as the human kids often said to one another.
Tearing his gaze away from those clad in armour and towards the other patrons in the room; Agares's eyes would skim from face to face; studying their features as best he could. As a dragon he had been one of those whom had seen all humans as appearing to look the same; small feeble creatures with nothing distinct about them; yet since his transformation into this form; his opinions had taken quite a different turn. Perhaps now standing as one of them; the small and once thought to be insignificant traits had been magnified tenfold. He'd have never noticed the crooked nose of the old drunkard sitting at the other end of the room; nor the sunken eyes of the ghastly looking woman that sat opposite him.
Skimming the entirety of the room as he guzzled his ale; eyes would fall upon a particular trio standing next to the counter; one rotund man clad in armour amidst the company of two women; all three of whom seemed to hold Agares's gaze longer than even he had anticipated. Unlike the mere humans and even those garbed in armour; something about them seemed to radiate a familiarity; an odd sensation considering he had no recollection of ever seeing them before. Alas, his thoughts on the matter would be replaced by the wafting scent of roast boar; a large slab of meat the centre piece of a plate adorned with roast potato's and carrots being carried towards his direction.
The elation of having a warm meal was cut abruptly as the door flung open; an aging fisherman as white as Moby dick standing in the entrance and quivering like a new born lamb amidst a cold wind. A simple word from him would cause Agares's heart to both jump and sink simultaneously; a rare phenomenon yet one made possible thanks to the rollercoaster of emotions that he just underwent. Immediately Agares had been hooked by the thought of dragons being nearby; his kin that he had assumed to have been either killed or in a predicament similar to his own were now nearby. However the sight of the plate he had eagerly anticipated smashing against the floor as the waitress shrieked in fear had caused him to feel an uncomfortable sinking feeling in his stomach; the quest to satiate his hunger being prolonged by the chaos ensuing outside.
Back by the harbour; the captain and his men had found themselves encircled by the serpent like beasts; the body of one of the dock workers torn asunder as two of the beasts played tug of war. Barely armed and already fatigued by their battle out at sea; the captain and his crew had found themselves little more than appetizers on a potential buffet table; their lives robbed from them in little under two minutes; regardless of whether they heeded the call to fight or to run and hide. The blood curdling shrieks of the men as they met their demise would be disguised against the whistling of the wind and the clanging emanating from nearby buildings; the locks that fastened the wooden shutters of the windows buckling underneath the ferocity of the storm. Amidst the downpour; the blood seeping from their shredded bodies would begin to pool within a small defect in the cobblestone path; the shattered stone like remains of the captain appearing to be little more than rubble along the road side; his final act of defiance being to stare down the behemoth that would rob him of his life.
Back at the Dragons head Inn, Agares visibly agitated that his dinner had been soured had watched as the armor clad humans sprung into action; a few of them heading out the building in preparation for a dragon attack. Their quick reactions and readiness to dive into action momentarily causing Agares to think back to the men he had just left behind; the human crew whom he had to believe were somewhere between the harbour and the Inn itself. For this brief moment, Agares had found himself facing a dilemma; unable to decide whether he should take the side of the dragon that had appeared or whether he should attempt to aide them as a means of repaying their kindness for treating them as one of their own. Surprising even himself; Agares could not help but feel somewhat concerned about the humans he had been living with; yet once it came to light that the town was under attack by Basilisk and not a dragon; that dilemma was quickly disregarded.
Having no shroud of care to the faith of a mere basilisk, Agares's attention was focused on ensuring the safety of the crew, especially knowing that they were in no shape or condition to fight off a single beast, let along a horde of them. Uncharacteristically; Agares would begin to storm towards the collapsed fisherman; right hand grabbing the old man by the neck and raising him upward so that his back was pressed against the wall. Agares needed answers and he needed them now, time was of the essence.
"Old man!" Agares growled; teeth visible and eyes sharp. "From which direction did these creatures come from?" he asked, grip tightening as he looked like a beast unchained. "Answer me!, from where did they come?!" he asked again, growing ever more impatient. "Did you see a group of men? Sailors from the Esmerelda?!" he continued; his grip tightening even more as he awaited a reply.
"I.. I.. I... d..on..t... k..now...Ple..please..Le...t....me...g..o.... Y..ou...Your... hur..hurting... me" the fisherman stuttered, still visibly shaken by what he had seen and now fearing for his safety whilse held against the wall by a man far stronger than he. The man would continue to wriggle and squirm in Agares's grip before finally being released; his body sliding to the floor. His inability to shed light on Agares's question only caused him to get even more frustrated.
"Humans" cursed Agares under his breath, turning towards the exit and brushing past a few of the other patrons in the room. If he was not going to get answers here, then the only place was outside amidst the onslaught of basilisk that had begun to gather around the Dragons head Inn. To make matters worse, he had neither a plan or his hammer and spear at his side; both weapons stashed away aboard the Esmerelda.
Brenier didn’t seem that interested in the dragon-finding compass, but Morriel leaned forward as the other expressed his disbelief. A smile upon her lips, almost a smirk, told Bren all he needed to know about the eleven’s choice.
Before she spoke, however, a fisherman busted in as white as a sheet, screaming one word which shot the elven straight out of her seat. Dragons. After so long, we’re they back from nowhere? Drawing her dragonbow, she turned to Bren- “Stick by me if you want, I’m helping out who I can find first.”- and rushed out of Dragon’s Head with Leo, not even bothering to wait for Brenier is he was tagging along. The rain only seemed to have gotten worse, and the glistening serpentine shapes surrounding the tavern had glittering golden eyes- it was hard not to be drawn to them.
Correction, these weren’t dragons, they were basilisks. A monster native to Rannar, their bites were poisonous and their eyes could turn you into stone. They stalked for easy prey, so why were they so brazen as to rush into town to attack? Nevertheless, Leo got occupied with a basilisk and another slayer rushed ahead to take the attention of another encroaching monster in Leo’s blindspot. Morriel, in an instant, moved to take the flank of the basilisk that Leo was occupied with; swiftly notching an arrow from the quiver, Morriel yelled to the former, “Keep it’s attention, I’ll back you up!
Aiming down sights, the glow of the wielded bow reflecting the raindrops hitting the weapon and into Morriel’s eyes. The basilisk was snapping at Leo, and when it emitted a momentary hiss at the slayer, the elven shot the arrow into the gaping mouth of the monster. The arrow struck near the front of the top of the mouth, the point partially sticking up out of the scales, and the basilisk screeched at being struck before the elven has to quickly avert her gaze to lower on the monster’s body because the basilisk looked in her direction- it was far too risky to try and aim at the mouth when the eyes were right next to it.
In the rain, Morriel started to notch another arrow onto her bow to aim again.
As the wounded basilisk was forced to divert its attention, eyes glowing with hatred and potent magical abilities, it appeared to have chosen its next target. Brenier could see its snout, breached though by an arrow, still maneuvering down onto Morriel. Aiming her volley would be near impossible with such large eyes in such close proximity. The serpent must have known this, flicking its ropelike tongue in anticipation of a strike. The man watched as its jaw slowly unhinged, rising away from its lower fangs as a streams of blood, saliva, and rain poured from its upper array of daggers. He had to act quick, no time to run into the fray just yet.
"Oi! They're ahff the menu!" he shouted, barely out of the inn's entranceway. The shot would be tricky, bolts hardly flew true in such conditions nevertheless vials of potion. He gripped the wooden frame, nails anchoring into the damp lumber like a soggy cat. Outstretching his supporting arm, he leaned into the storm outside whilst his free limb snatched up a hand-crossbow from his holster. Once leveled, the limbs of the weapon clacked out and into place, his thumb priming the string back into a locked position clink. There was a split second of adjustment, of a winked aim cutting desperately through sheets of rain. He pulled the trigger and let fly.
fwump fwump fwump-SMASH the miniature vial spiraled through the air, shattering against an opened golden eye and dousing the creature's entire head in lime mist. The beast reeled in pain, throwing itself up and away from those it contended with. For those on the ground, they'd hear the hissing of acid, attempting to bore into the tough hide and vulnerable optics of the creature. Brenier grinned at the site, the feeling. Though hanging out a mere door on a damp street, he could have sworn for a second he was back atop the Outrider slinging death down on his adversaries.
"Answer me!, from where did they come?!"
His moment of blissful recollection was interrupted by the demands of a large and darkly clad man. It looked like he was giving the old man from before quite the difficult time, a strange reward for raising the alarm. Still, the man was clearly looking for a fight, if that energy could just be directed towards the snakes instead of his fellow man. Brenier quickly flicked another vial from his bandolier, thumbing it into the crossbow's middle groove before he shouted in to the man. "Save it fahr the snakes fellah! Don't know if ye no'iced, bu' we got ahrselves trouble enough ou' here!"
The Answer to all your problems!
Tireisa Alerann
Tireisa rapped the table with her fingers as Lance and Erimas exchanged the courteous greetings among their kind before interrupting.
“This is not the place you two, I think we should speak more of this later although I too am glad to see that I am not alone in this plight and that you are both safe, but these dragon slayers are speaking of a com…”
Her hushed words were halted by the fisherman crashing into the tavern and crying out that dragons were attacking. The accusation caused the woman to raise a brow in confusion towards the pair with her by the bar.
Suddenly screams could be heard amongst the heavy rain as the basilisk’s cried out as well citizens who had opened their windows to the commotion outside the dragons head.
Dane called the dragon slayers to arms and Tireisa looked to the men and women who could not fight a tension tightening in her stomach. The slayers could hold their own but the civilians…
“Quick move downstairs and take shelter in the storeroom, Hurry!”
she exasperated as she pointed the way and guided a few help assist others to safety.
Hey gaze rested on Akros as she nodded in his direction. “Looks like trouble found us instead, do what you do best slayer”
she expressed with a smile but inside her heart was racing. She needed to help protect these people but she couldn’t give herself away. As far as any of these battle hardened warriors were aware she was just a barmaid. Tireisa pushed through the scrambling crowd as they panicked to get into the cellar area. “If you two can fight then protect yourselves, but be careful. I don’t want to see any more of our kind fall tonight, I’ll be back”
Tireisa spoke her voice full of concern for the two newly found companions. The woman pressed through the evacuating customers finally managing to get a hold on the side door as she exited the tavern in time for the stable to be decimated by a swing of a basilisks head as her eyes widened.
Bristle her mule was now kicking and braying wildly with feared filled eyes in between the toes of the reptilian beast as it coiled its neck around and opened its eyes wider, Bristle stopped crying out as it slowly began to assimilate into stone before crumbling violently under the weight of the basilisks foot.
Tireisa instinctively yelled in anger quickly looking for the remains of the cart that rested between the basilisks front legs. It was in ruins but her bow and quiver remained slung on the edge of the cart. She rushed forward the rain pelting her in the face as the basilisk recoiled in alarm of the human rushing headlong towards it before bringing its neck back to strike.
In a singular moment Tireisa dropped skidding amongst the slick cobblestone as the creatures head sailed over head almost making contact. She skidded with a thud as her feet collided with the cart wheel and scrambled to standing simultaneously securing her weapon before releasing two arrows into the side of its neck. The basilisk shook and whipped its tail slamming into Tireisa’s side sending her flying back a few feet into a bale of hay. The wind was knocked from her lungs and her sight was blurred for a moment as the rain dampened her hair and clothes. She was so much weaker in this form. The thought that she would die here tonight crept up momentarily, Tobias’ words echoed in her mind. The basilisk sniffed the air before turning its body to face her sure that it had secured yet another meal as it slowly encroached on the seemingly fallen woman.
“Man and beast are no different, we are all just trying to survive Tireisa. By whatever means necessary”
The auburn haired girl grasped her bow tightly as finally managed to stand as she calmed her breathing. The basilisk attempted another strike in an effort to claim its prize in its jaws but Tireisa spun to the left pulling an arrow from her quiver and drove it into the eye of the basilisk as it passed. The beast let out a guttural scream as it flailed it head back and forth stepping back a moment to regain its sights on its attacker, but Tireisa was already gone as thunder crashed and rain fell not allowing the basilisk to pinpoint her location. Tireisa drew her bow with as much strength as she could muster and let fly three more arrows which hit the mark along its exposed belly before sliding right up underneath the head and loosing another arrow through its maw. The basilisk swiped at her and clipped her thigh as she cried out in pain the blood already reddening her soaked leather leggings. But she drove her legs into the ground and jumped with all her strength just managing to rise in height above the beasts head before releasing her final arrow with every last bit of strength that remained in her as the arrow parted the rain crashing through the air and tore through the beasts hide and into its skull with immense force as it collapsed dead immediately and she landed atop its twitching corpse before standing and raising her head to see the other slayers already battling multiple other basilisks.
“A coordinated attack?, I have never heard them to behave like this.”
“My lady, are you alright? Your bleeding”
A townsperson who had opened their window exclaimed as she slid off the creature and landed beside their window.
“I’ll be fine, stay inside and block your doors. I have to help the slayers now”
“You don’t have to tell me twice”
The man acknowledged as he slammed the window shut immediately.
Tireisa wasted no time and jumped onto the Dragons head roof and climbed the rest of the way before posting up and releasing an arrow into the nostril of the basilisk squaring against Thessalia.
Another found its mark in the right eye of the beast as it cried out unable to effect the human with its powers on that side now giving her an advantage.
“Now!”
The dragon warrior cried to the woman as she knocked another arrow and fired to keep suppressing the basilisks that had surrounded the area. Lightning striking outside brightening her figure for a brief second amongst the scaffolding around the outside of the roofing.
Arkos nodded at the store keeper. Grabbing his axe, he followed the other slayers out side. They seemed to have been delt with in front. Hearing a crash from the stable he rushed towards it. He saw the unfortunate animal be turned to stone, but then the tavern keeper's deadly aim. SQUAEEEEEEEEEEEEEOULS Arkos kneeled, wincing from the screeching before feeling impossible wait falling upon him, and burning liquid hit his skin. With a grunt, he lifted up, casting off the beast that had jumped on him. Grabbing his axe he smashed it into the head of the creature, it's blood blasting into his face. Before he could pull out his axe, a felt a mouth wrap around his body, and then he was being lifted up. His skin was on fire, but his earth dragon tattoo was keeping him alive. He was being eaten alive. THIS IS NOT HOW I'M GOING TO DIE! Rage welled inside of him. He was not going to die to this weak beast. With a guttural cry, he pressed his arm's out, stretching the throat of the Basilisk. Between breaths, he could hear the tearing of the flesh, suddenly he felt himself spat out. But he was already pissed. Grabbing his axe, he funneled his rage into his axe. He felt it receive it, feast on it, and then expel it. Thunder resounded from one side, lightening sizzling. With a cry, he sank his blade deep into the flesh, and then the Basilisk exploded, fried flesh flying everywhere. Turning, he charged in the middle of the fight, barreling into one of the attacking basilisks hacking away at it. His skin was sizzling itself from the acid, but he was to far gone into rage to care. Also the fact that he was cut in multiple places from teeth and also his knife wound. Covered in blood, he was a wild sight. His long hair plastered with blood, eyes alive with fury, and chest heaving with the deep breaths that expelled steam. He was ready to fight to the death, and not his death.
In the midst of wrestling the spiky snake beast's teeth, Thaessalia caught sight of the little redheaded tavern lass leaping about with a bow. Inebriated as she was, she nearly forgot to remove her blades from the basilisk's maw before she was flung when Tireisa's arrow struck its eye. Instead, she stumbled forward, under the now very angry snake beast's head, and split it from jaw to belly... Chest? Honestly, she wasn't certain of the specifics.
Either way, glistening guts began to gather in the street, and Thaessalia had a moment to admire the half-giant's rampage as they were all splattered with blood and rain. She grinned at him in the din, her dark hair soaking up the sky's tears once again. "Oi, save some for the other lads! Yer makin' Dane look bad!" With a laugh, she rejoined the battle, blades a whirl around her as she cut off several large feet.
ERAMIS QUILL
"Do you have any idea what's happened to us? Or Why? I was so desperate for answers I came to a slayer gathering to find them!"
This was the first time Eramis considered the fact that it was possible the slayers may know the answer to this mysterious phenomenon, or at least have a clue. Maybe they found a way to be rid of dragons for good, and this was it. All this time she had been dreading this meeting but never thought this could actually help discover the answer shes been searching for. It seems fate had yet to reveal its true plans. Eramis eyed Lance with regret and shook her head with defeat, she wished she knew, and judging by his question he didnt know either. She felt a little crushed that not even other dragons would have answers.
"DRAGONS!"
Eramis' head whipped around so fast at the man who trembled in the threshold. There was an eerie silence that fell on every soul in the tavern. A few eyes darted to their neighbor's to be sure they all heard the man right. Mumbles and whispers slowly spread amongst each other but before anyone had any real time to think the tavern bursted into an uproarous panic. Chairs were scraping against the wooden floor as the crowd stood on their feet to either fight or seek shelter. Mugs of ale spilled over the tables, and the people stumbled over one other as they selfishly pushed any one in their way. The slayers, springing into action with zeal, wasted no time and marched to the door with heavy determination and clad in bavery. "NO! Don't!" The voices were too loud, even Tireisa, who encouraged her new draconic allies to seek shelter, could not be heard by Eramis yelled above the screams and ruckus with desperation, "WAIT!" If it really was a dragon out there, the last thing she wanted was to have it slewn, it could be the missing link.
She slithered her way through the crowd struggling to escape, one person who had fallen had grabbed onto her cloak for balance, slowing her down. She yanked the corner of the cloak out of the stranger's grasp and continued to claw her way to the door, being elbowed and shoved as she did. "Eramis! Wait, lass!" The familiar voice of Mrs. MacKenzie beckoned her to safety from her hiding spot beneath a table. Eramis failed to hear her under all the clamour. When she reached the door she pushed through, feet immediately sinking into the mushed ground and panted to catch her breath, once again getting completely soaked. The bottom of her once flawless blue skirt was freckled with splatters of mud, the bottom hem taking the worst of it. Violet eyes stared at the giant creature in the harsh rain. Large head, teeth like swords, scaly skin, and yet no wings could be made out. Eyes wide with realization, Eramis crouched and raised one flap of her cloak to shield her eyes from the beast's own, "Basilisk," she hissed under her breath.
Eramis remembered this pests all too well. Had a nasty habit of stealing dragon eggs before they had a chance to hatch, and sometimes even stealing small hatchlings away. They were pesky and persistent when hungry, and locked onto their prey mercilessly, as if they'd never get another meal. There were a number of armed humans all around Era, each proudly weilding their weapon of choice, and she came to terms that this was not her fight. Not in this form any how, with the basilisks almost four times her size, at least as a dragon she had a better chance, despite her smaller physique. Eramis ran back for the tavern and regrouped with her undercovered kin. Tireisa made it known she would stand and fight, but warned Lance and Eramis to becareful if they also chose to do so. Eramis felt that she coukd be of service inside, helping those that remained. Giving a curt nod in acknowlegment, she broke away again and headed straight for Mrs. MacKenzie. With the stubborn woman protesting, Era grabbed her by the hand and led her behind the counter, there was a sizeable hatch door in the wooden floor boards, no doubt the Dragon Head's cellar, every good tavern had one. Was the round woman was in, she continued to round up any loose stragglers and quickly escorted them to the dark pit. Should the basiliks destroy the tavern, at least the floor would remain.
Leo winced as she readied for a blow from the second creature, but it never came. Thaes had stopped it just in time. Quickly the others, Morriel and Bren diverted theone she'd attacked, and Thaes together with Tiriesa's arrows finished off the second.
"Uh, thanks." Leo said, feeling somewhat guilty for the hard time she had given her friend earlier.
There were plenty more where that came from however.
"Oi, save some for the other lads! Yer makin' Dane look bad!"
She heard Thaes shout. Leo grinned.
"How can he look bad when you're here?" She cuffed Thaes playfully.
"Come on!"
The creatures had now converged upon them, which was fine by Leo because it meant they were not trying to break into houses and kill the townsfolk.
Leo rushed another, slashing at it's neck with half of her lance. Once it turned on her, she lead it round until it's flank was exposed to her companions, leaving them a wide opening for attack.
Lance seemed very reluctant to part with the dragons he had just found, but the basilisks, if left to their own devices, would no doubt find innocent people for their food.
"Just, be careful Tiriesa," He cautioned before she left. "This isn't part of their nature, something's happened to these creatures."
Then a crahs came from the stables.
"Oh! My donkey!"
Lance rushed after Tiriesa. She engaged the beast with no fear, and, once Lance saw she had the creature handled, he worked trying to free the rest of the animals in the stalls.
A grey horse rushed past him, having already lipped open the latch and bolted. Lance opened the rest of the stalls, and when his donkey came into view he carefully lead it away from the ruined stable and gave it a good slap on the rear.
Then it was on to the fight.
With a roar Lance dove at the first Basilisk that was unlucky enough to come into range. It had been sniffing at a doorway, and he brought his sword down upon it's neck hard.
The creature's head came away, it's body reeling back and collapsing, it was then Lance noticed the trickle of inky black liquid, mixed with the blood.
"Tainted?" This was odd, but he didn't have more time to think as, in his distraction, he was caught off guard by another, which sent him flying with a strike from its powerful tail. Lance lost his sword as it slid away from him across the cobbles. The basilisk lunged, and by some miracle he managed to catch the creatures' jaws. Now he was locked in a stale mate, the creature unable to break free, but Lance unable to let go without being bitten. He kept his head down to avoid the creature's bile-yellow eyes, but he was in trouble.
Arkos heard someone yell at him, and turning his head. "Oi, save some for the other lads! Yer makin Dane look bad!"
"
Ha, i don't give a flying shit. One of these assholes nearly ate me. I'll kill every one of them if I have too," he growled.
His adrenaline started to fade and the burns started to sting. Grunting, he wiped of his shoulder. He thought of all the painful situations he had been in this one took the cake. Not that he didnt mind the pain. He used it to fight. The more pain he was in the better. Some could say he was masochist, but that was wrong. In fact, he hated the painful feeling, but liked the fact he could over come it and use it as a weapon. There are many different pains. There's that of being hit by lightening type creatures. His lightning dragon tattoo converted the blasts into... Lack for better phrase nervous energy. When he got hit by fire his fire dragon tattoo converted it into body heat. Because of the tattoo he can withstand high temperatures. The ice dragon tattoo simply cause the the frost attacks to solidify the ice around his body. The nature dragon allowed him to heal at a faster than normal dragon slayers.
Turning toward the tavern, he saw a basilisk with the someone holding it's jaws. "Crow shit," he realized that the guy couldn't let go or he'd be bitten. Rushing over he snagged the basilisk's tail and jerked it back. "Roll back, roll back!" He yelled.
Rain was a luxury. Torrential downpour,the lifeblood of earth mother, seemed to bless this seaside town Titania had figured out when her flimsy cloak was soaked within ten minutes of being out in the weather. The wet nutmeg brown fabric clung to her mocha skin, shivers wracking her petite frame. If she were her normal dragon self, the rain would amazing -building up in the crevices of her scales to create waterfalls across her frame- but this frail and delicate human form could barely hold up against a strong breeze. It was annoying at the least, a burden mostly. She gave a violent sneeze, pulling her soaked cloak further inwards to make some feeble attempt at keeping warm.
The town itself was as dark and gloomy as the weather with not a soul in sight as she entered it. Odd.. Titania thought, amber doe eyes looking around to find an inn that she could rest at. A nervous whinny interrupted her thoughts as Yatimah slowed her speed. The chestnut mare was also drenched from the rain, copper coat looking more like burnt caramel. She was normally quite brave but her demeanor had shifted to something hesitant, nervous even. Her rider narrowed her eyes in suspicion at the behavior, pheromones increasing to help keep the equine calm.
Titania urged her forward, heading towards the center of town but from the road ahead, a dapple grey stallion shot out from around the corner. It's eyes were wild, chest heaving from the strain of running. Instinct had her pushing Yatimah in its path, watching as the stallion skidded to a halt and reared up in fear at the sudden obstacle in its path. She was quick to react, holding her hands in a placating gesture and allowing her pheromones to do there job. "Easy boy, easy" Titania watched the frightened creature begin to settle, panting in heavy breathes and head hanging low. She gave him a firm pat on the neck with one hand, while her other carefully reached in her saddlebag to pull out a corded rope. A grimace appeared on her face when her nearly bare feet landed in a puddle, walking awkwardly around her own horse to pull the corded rope through the stallion's halter. Titania took the other end and looped it through the saddle ring to connect the two horses together.
Despite the rain and wind, a scent still reached her nose. One she was keenly aware of and made her eyebrows come upwards. She put her two fingers in her mouth to give a low whistle; Yatimah's ears pricked up and with a harsh tug on her companion, they trotted away from the center of town, leaving Titania behind. Her steps swiftly followed the path the stallion had come from, peering around the corner only to be greeted with the sight of a basilisk and human man stuck in a stalemate. As a dragon she hated the egg stealers and as a human that hate continued. She wracked her brain for what she could do. That's when her eyes noticed a sword laying nearby, most likely belonging to the man, and a plan formed. Titania didn't hesitate as she bolted forward to scoop up the weapon, purposefully dragging the blade across the palm of hand to smear blood across it. The next moment had her running at the snarling creature while it was distracted with the man and as she got closer, she utterly forgot how small and weak she was, not her sturdy draconian form.
That didn't matter though as all she needed to do was make the bloodied blade have contact with the skin before the rain washed it off. Before the yellow eyes of the basilisk could make contact with her own, Titania used what strength she could to drive the blade into the soft optic, releasing the blade and watching the creature rear backwards shireking and clawing at the weapon. It would take a moment for the effect of her poisoned blood to kick in but in that moment, Titania pulled her hood from her head to kneel near the man "Are you alright?" She asked with the calm collected nature of a doctor.
Tireisa Alderann
Tireisa continued to fire volleys at the basilisks that engaged in combat with the slayers below her eyes locked onto Lance as he was swatted aside and caught in a stalemate with a beast. “Lance?!” she called out as she reached for another arrow but found her quiver empty. “Damnt!”
The woman cursed under her breath but luckily the basilisk was pulled by Arkos and stabbed by a newcomer into the fray and she breathed a momentary sigh of relief for the dragon males safety. She could do no more from up here the rain made the roof more slick as she tried to find a foothold to get back down and help the others.
Lightning struck the night sky revealing two citrine eyes behind the woman until it lunged out wrapping her around the waist with its neck as it squeezed she gasped audibly. She had let her guard down and allowed one of the creatures to scale up the backside of the tavern for an ambush. Tireisa could feel the air dissipating in her lungs as the pressure began to increase more and more. Her half hearted attempts at hitting the tough hide with naught but her bow were futile.
“This can’t be it….this can’t be how I die?”
she thought as her eyes began to become bloodshot from the hemorrhaging pressure of the coiling snake. Another lightning strike suddenly gave her the idea as she strained to grasp between the scales of the basilisks neck . Her vision beginning to blur as she finally felt softer flesh at her fingertips before releasing a warriors cry at the top of her lungs as electricity coursed through her fingertips.
The beast began to shake violently as if having a seizure as it loosened its hold of her until finally a bolt of lightning arched across the darkened canvas of the evening sky before the beast was sent flying. Tireisa dropped simultaneously skidding down the tiling until managing to catch herself before falling off the roof by a shingle as she groaned and coughed finally catching her breath. She looked up just in time to see the singed basilisk falling off the roof to the ground below as it let out a death screech smoke leaving its mouth from being burnt from the inside out.
“I am so out of practice…”
The barmaid rolled to her back catching breath a moment before managing to stand and looked out as the fight was still ongoing.
A guard from earlier was pinned and being eaten by another snake, it was too late for the man but her eyes were on his sword as she rolled off the roof and landed atop the basilisks neck turning the relieve the dying man of his blade her outstretched hand pulling the sword to her hand as if by magic before turning and slicing a deep slit into the neck pouch of the basilisk as it squealed and backed into another monster as it began bleeding out. She couldn’t keep fighting without her powers, she could only hope that none of the slayers had noticed since they were also in the heat of battle.
Tireisa was now grounded and facing down the other basilisks like the rest of the troop in the front of the dragons head. Seeing Leo turn a basilisk around she rushed forward to drive her blade into the beasts rear ankle dropping it as she severed the tendon.
The Lion
Running about like a child with scissors and sweets, Thaessalia spilled the beasts' blood this way and that, weakening and distracting their foes. She caught sight of the barmaid on the roof fighting for air, and made that her priority. She would save the lass, of course! But by the time the slayer had thrown together some barrels to climb, the attacking basilisk had been sent flying, landing not far off in a sizzling, screeching pile of death.
The brunette blinked once, then twice. Surely she wasn't that drunk. But before she could question what she had or hadn't seen, she backed into a barrel as she tried to evade a lunging basilisk that was still very much alive. "Son of a biscuit eater!" Thaessalia rolled herself off the ground and swayed to her feet, raising her blades.
Through the torrents of rain and wind, Lance heard Arkos shout. He did as he was told, rolling free as he felt the creature being dragged back. The beast's fangs closed on air. Lance collided with a rain barrel and sent it spilling over. Shaking his head he looked up just tin time to see a woman rush in to help finish it, driving his sword into the basilisk's eye.
"Thank you!" He called to both of them.
He coughed and wiped rain from his face as he rose steadily.
"I'm just fine thanks to you miss." He said cheerfully, stepping forward to wrench his blade out of the beast's head.
"Best get inside, the streets are no place for regular humans. I mean civilians." Lance corrected himself quickly.
"Leave it to use er, dragon slayers."
He dipped his head and jogged off to help the others, hoping he didn't sound too foolish.
Leo danced around the basilisk in her care, parrying lunges from fang and claw. She fought expertly, as Dane had taught her to do, not a foot wrong. Playing the beast into the trap she was weaving.
It was Tiriesa who came in to help close it. The creature screamed as it was hobbled, but it's tail lashed around to strike out at the offending party. Too slowly did Leo charge and bring her lance to the creature's heart.
"Raaaaah!" Lance came barreling into the basilisk that had nearly caught Thaes. He grabbed the creature around it's thick neck and hurled it onto it's back.
It thrashed and hissed and Lance brought his sword straight down into its heart.
"You all right?" He called back.
The fight was fierce, but slowly, the slayers and their allies were gaining ground.
Leo felt the nerve of the creatures thin. It was then a whinny alerted her to her mount, well free from his stable. Leo whistled quickly as Shep cam charging around the side of the inn. The horse immediately spun, setting it's head down and its ears back.
It took an immense amount of training to get the horse to turn its back on predators, yet she could not have her loyal steed caught by the gazes of the creatures they fought.
Shep wasn't much use here, save for carrying the injured to safety.
